Book Description
BUILDING A PARTNERSHIP WITH YOUR BOSS The Boss and The Assistant. It's a basic business relationship, and the structure is easy: The Boss gives orders, and The Assistant obeys. But there's an alternative that's better for both assistant and boss, and it's called "partnership." In this eye-opening book, assistants learn how they can break out of old, narrow roles and enjoy working with a boss instead of for a boss. This change liberates creativity and self-confidence, and reveals hidden skills and interests. It also makes an assistant more valuable (and promotable) to the boss and the company. Readers learn specific techniques for how to: ** initiate the transition to a partnering relationship ** understand their boss' work style and adapt to it -- without losing their sense of self ** become a proactive worker who takes responsibility for mistakes and credit for successes JERRY WISINSKI (San Antonio,TX) is a consultant with expertise in interpersonal skills, assertiveness training, and team building. He served as Executive Director of International Trainers, Educators, and Consultants at Trinity University, and is the author of Resolving Conflicts on the Job (Amacom).

Good for nothing!.......2004-08-08
I bought this book thinking it would provide pointers on how to handel specific, everyday, and even "ordinary" situations assistants encounter with their bosses, and others in the workplace. Pointers that when carried out correctly would prove that you indeed are a "take charge assistant".
Instead, this book focuses on getting on your bosses good side, which is great, if all you want to be known for is being the dependable "worker". I was expecting somethig way more contrete, This book was too wishy-wasy for me.
I give it one star because eventhiugh I don't think it specifically states it there is an underlying message of the importance of communication.
An essential starting point.......2003-10-09
Being a corporate coach who specializes in the relationship between executives and assistants, I find this book very useful. While it is not the end-all, be-all solution, it is a perfect start to building a partnership. The book is easy to read with realistic tips; I give it to my clients to augment our coaching sessions. I especially like the stages of partnership model explained in the book. It builds on the basic stages of management and is useful for both the executive and assistant. Well done! righthandresources.com
Eh?.......2003-08-15
There are better books out there about being an assistant to a boss. This book does not go into depth. It's too basic, and not meaty enough.
Essential to Partnering with Your Manager.......2002-07-27
This book is outstanding. I highly recommend it if you want to take your working relationship with your manager up to the next level. If you think you're working relationship is great now, this book can make it even better. I liked the way the author lists the steps in preparing this concept to your manager. It was easy to follow and really makes you put a good deal of careful thought in the preparation process. I also liked the idea of action items not just for the assistant, but for the manager too. Remember a good working relationship involves both assistants and managers. Just working through this process together improves the relationship. Luckily, my boss endored it!
Good for Beginners.......2002-05-01
This book is helpful for people new to their jobs. If you don't have anyone who can give you good advice, try this book and you will gain understanding and wisdom about how you should act in your workfield.
Book Description
ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder and ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, are prevalent in society today, afflicting about 4.4% of the adult population, which is over 13 million Americans. Four out of every five adults do not even know they are ADD, and while it is often difficult to differentiate adults with true ADD from adults who are merely forgetful and disorganized, Organizing Solutions for People with ADD outlines new organizing strategies that will be of value to anyone who wants to improve their organizational, or lack of, skills in their life. The chapters consist of practical organizing solutions for ADD at Work; prioritizing, time management, and organizing documents, ADD at Home; paying bills on time, de-cluttering your house, scheduling and keeping appointments, ADD with Kids; driving them to various activities, grocery shopping and meals, laundry, babysitters, organizing drawers and closets, and ADD and You; organizing time for your social life, gym, and various other hobbies and activities. Color photographs that capture the short attention span of the reader are featured throughout, as well as sidebars and testimonials from adults with ADD, providing numerous organizational tips, such as, the importance of dividing time into minutes or moments, task completion, how to avoid procrastination, asking for help, and how not to be a packrat.

I do not have ADD/ADHD... but it speaks to me!! :-).......2007-08-27
I randomly picked this up in the Newer Books section of our library, opened up to a page with a spice storage area that looked very familiar, and decided that I'd check it out.
For me, this is a really great book that hits the nail on the head for those of us who want to be organized, but have something holding us back like being unable to let go of something that we spent "good money" on, but truly not having a space for it, or resenting it because it drives you crazy. For example, you may have an entire cupboard of random Tupperware that doesn't stack right and falls out all of the time or a carousel-style spice rack on the kitchen counter plus an entire drawer full of spices that are most likely too old and are rarely used.
This book made me laugh every time I turned the page because the situation described (as well as the accompanying photos) were close to my heart. :-)
The one thing that bugged me was that she advocated using paper plates except at special meals. However, I know that the process of keeping dishes clean and put away can be very overwhelming for a person with ADHD or depression, so I do understand why she says it.
All in all, it is an organizing book for those of us with realistic expectations of ourselves. I would like to say that each of my folders is color-coded and labeled with a label-maker and that I wash sheets on Monday, whites on Tuesday, etc., but those things are not necessarily happening all of the time. I do what I can, and I have gotten a lot of great ideas and inspirations from this book, as well as a little more insight on myself.
ADDer's Organizing Bible!!! I wish I could give it 10 stars!!!!!.......2007-08-05
I can't speak for the poor reviewers of this book, don't understand their reviews either??? However, I am so thankful that I didn't listen to them! I browsed through the pages that Amazon allowed me to preview, and I immediately ordered it. I gained many tips just from browsing the pages alone.
You really should browse the pages, you can get a general idea of the book this way. I am only on page 87 of the book, and I have just decluttered and organized my entire kitchen from the one sitting of reading the book! I had so much stuff that I never used taking up valuable space, it was unreal the massive amounts of dishes, unused food in the pantry, etc.
I even decluttered the china cabinet in my dining room today, to make use for the items that I do use regularly, now I have more open space in my kitchen.
I have bought so many books on organizing and cleaning, to many to even count if I still had them all! I tried them, and had a pretty good feeling at first with most of them, less so with most though. Not with this gem! Organizing Solutiions has only ideas & solutions that will work for me, an enormous ADDer! I can't believe the huge relief of finally getting my hands on the RIGHT ONE, (organizing material).
I have a ton of ideas to put to use in my bedroom, my bathroom and even my kids rooms, & I haven't even gotten to the kid's rooms section yet.
If you truely suffer with keeping your home clean and organized due to your ADD, you have got to get this manual! Even the layout is ADD friendly. And the pages are made of a nice thick quality paper that has a sheen to it.
You will not be sorry if you get this book, you will sadly still keep seaching however if you do not :(
I absolutely love, love, love this book. I am excited about cleaning, that is unheard of, lol!
Good luck on your journey.... off to finish the book....
Throws in the towel a little too much.......2007-06-08
Pinsky is the mother of an ADD child and, if I were the parent of a child with ADD, I'd probably give the book 5 stars. If you're a frustrated, non-ADD spouse or parent dealing with an ADD significant other who's driving you crazy, buy the book. It has some good ideas that you may be able to implement that may increase the harmony in your house without being too big a pain.
As an ADD adult, however, I found some of the suggestions completely unrealistic. I'll admit that my sock drawer is a mass of confusion, but Pinsky's solution (Throw out all your socks. Buy a bunch of white ones, all the same style, and a bunch of black ones, all the same style.) is completely unrealistic. As a teacher, I have to look at least a little professional; white or black socks with khaki pants just doesn't cut it.
The whole book has these kinds of ideas. On the subject of lawn care, her solution is to hire a lawn service. That's a great idea, but most ADD adults have trouble tracking finances, so while Pinsky claims rightly that it's worth spending some money to make organizational problems easier, following all of her suggestions would cost quite a bit.
I'm sure this wasn't her intent, but I found the book a little patronizing. As I said, if you're dealing with an ADD person in your household, get the book. You can make some of the changes and they will make that person's life easier. But if you have ADD, Pinsky's approach may strike you more as "Give up, you'll never be able to get control of your life" than an attempt to give you tools you can use to get the control you want.
nothing new here.......2007-05-19
While this book is a well laid out easy to follow guide to organization not much is new here. While it might be helpful for non ADD persons to better understand ADD it does not provide much help to the ADD person themselves.
She basically says
Purge all unneeded items
Store items where you use them
Make Storage easy to use both finding and returning of items
As I said nothing new here.
The title led me to believe this was a new take and I would come away with some new tools with that I am disappointed. Now if this was the first book on Organization I ever bought I would have given it 5 stars.
Things I really did not like
\ She really pushes hiring a professional organizer seemed like at times more promoting her profession rather then a how to book
\ Some of her recommendations are down right silly especially in the kitchen. Her use of cookware was clearly for those who never cook. Now in some areas you can get away with storing dry goods in their boxes but other areas they would go stale fast or be infested with moths and other critters. In clear containers it is easier to see how much it left giving a quick visual clue which is far more ADD friendly. The use of paper plates and plastics and other disposables is not environmentally or economically sound idea for families. It is an incredibly stupid idea that having ADD means you can¡¦t load your dish washer. In fact loading a dishwasher and unloading a dishwasher is a great task for an ADD child or adult. It only takes 5 to 10 minutes.
Over all it is a pretty book that is very easy to follow. Not two wordy and lots of photos.
Pinsky "gets it"; this book is perfect for an ADD family.......2007-03-03
With a family of 4 ADD/ADHD-ers (including a 9- and 11-year-old), I was skeptical about any book claiming it can help us get our life organized! I flipped through this book at a bookstore today, expecting a rehash of the typical organizing stuff (i.e. good idea, but not ADD practical).
I found myself stopping to read the "post-it" notes on several pages. (Nice touch, by the way; great for us ADD readers!) I thought, "Hey, she's got a good idea here." Another page, another good idea. These weren't just the standard organizing tips being tweaked to an ADD audience, these are really ideas based on how we actually live our lives! Ms. Pinsky really understands us!
I didn't buy the book, though. (Actually, I read most of it in the store!) When I got home and started telling my wife, she got excited about it, too. So, here I am on Amazon ordering a copy! I know it's going to be an invaluable resource, too. I can't praise it enough, and I don't even own it yet! (In a couple of months, after living a less cluttered life, I may even come back and praise it some more!)

Sound advice and a beautifully designed book.......2006-07-09
John Selby will be on our radio show in July. During the our interviews together I found that this book is only a small amount to his wisdom. I read many books every week. I found the organization of the book to be easy to read, easy to understand, which also allows you to follow the information in making changes that you want to do in your life. The information he exchanges is from experience and practical. It does work. You need to get this book. It is a must read. If you are in the personal development feed it is definitely a book that will help you make profound changes in others. And then it is a bigger MUST have.
Self-improvement ideas that deliver.......2006-05-16
I read this book, since I seek tools for self-improvement. "Control your mind, and you control your reality."
I first surveyed numerous other candidates, which I found complex and convoluted.
This book provides a straight-forward, non-secular approach from which any reader can quickly gain the benefits of a peaceful, focused mind. The authors demonstrate that you can achieve this mind-state, anywhere, and anytime. I find these tools very useful.
You will enjoy reading the book, but moreover, you will carry its learned tools forward: control your mind, and you control your reality...it works!

Girl Power 101.......2007-09-16
The Girls Guide to Life by Catherine Dee contains a plethora of information and anecdotes for young girls and budding teens that are both entertaining and empowering. This primer for young girls deals with issues such as self esteem, empowerment in the workplace, social rights and obligations, and general life 101 lessons. The guide celebrates the empowerment of young females through a variety of activities and uses real life examples to address the issues that all young women face today. A great field guide to life's basics that every girl should read!
good topics for further discussion with your teenage girl.......2006-01-20
I think this is a good present for most teenage girls because it opens the door to further thought and purposeful decisions. Even if one is not a feminist, one could appreciate the information on topics like why sports are important, how to stay safe at home/school/street, and why math & science equals a bright future.
I appreciate the topics on self-esteem, what is physical beauty, and understanding and handling sexual harrasment.
Honestly, I wish this author would write similarly empowering and informational books for boys!
Finally!! A book to stop the dumbing down of young girls.......2005-12-16
How refreshing to read a book which helps to elevate, educate and emancipate young girls of the world. This book speaks to young girls in a very human and comprehensible way. It teaches them how to be strong, yet not overbearing, healthy not bulimic, educated, self-motivated and just all round good citzens of the world.
The book is full of historical facts showing how females took on the world against all odds and succeeded. In the book readers are also treated with humorous cartoons, for instance their is a young lady who takes on the form of a puddle. At the end of the cartoon she is standing upright and shouting "I am not your doormat!" Its a beautiful evolution....
Also what impressed me are the worksheets and life exercises in the book. What a clever way for a young girl to track her progress, in addition getting life pointers and hints.
Help a young girl become a confident young lady - Give her this book!!!!!
Hats off to you Catherine!!! Keep em coming.....
Great gift idea for the girls in your life.......2005-08-23
I got this book for my niece for her birthday. She is an overachieving, talented pre-teen about to start middle school. I think this book will help prepare her for a lot of the challenges she is about to face.
The book is well-written and in a voice that girls can relate to. It's not "preachy" or too academic. It's perfect for the target audience.
I think it's great that there is a book out there that deals with these issues. I could have used one while I was growing up! I don't know if my niece will read it cover-to-cover right away. But I can definitely imagine her referencing the applicable sections as she deals with each of the issues covered in the book (self-esteem, problems with boys, sports, etc.).
100 Activities and Inspiring Stories.......2005-08-21
The Girls' Guide to Life presents inspiring life stories, poems and empowering ideas. The format is fun and encouraging and women of any age will enjoy the quiz, fun facts about women throughout history and creative ideas for changing the world.
The celebratory nature of this book encourages participation. Catherine Dee's writing style is fresh and playful and she has a unique way of explaining life-changing issues like self-esteem and the role it plays in a woman's life.
I struggled with my own self-esteem for over thirty years and had to deal with everything from immature people making fun of my body to cruel sarcasm meant to disempower me. I had friends who were anorexic but I had no idea how serious it was. It wasn't until a guy friend encouraged me to address my self-esteem issues, that I truly started to blossom into who I am today and still I have moments where sentences from the past will arise to haunt me.
This book is essential reading for young girls because it will not only alert them to pertinent issues, it will save them years of heartache from low self-esteem and negative choices, not to mention having to deal with a negative body image due to the media's insistence on displaying unrealistic and enhanced images.
There are helpful topics that have practical applications. Girls can read about how to start a journal and can also find book recommendations like "The Diary of Anne Frank." There are many lists of books that will be of interest to women of all ages.
"The Story of Cinderella" had me laughing out loud and the "Phone Tree" idea is quite brilliant. Catherine Dee has really been paying attention to the main issues girls have to deal with as they "Grow up Female." This is a beautiful celebration of progress, empowerment and basically "respect for women." There are also self-defense tips and ideas for safe dating.
I loved the ideas about rock climbing and I think it is almost a metaphor for how women must face the challenges in their life and overcome not only their fears, but develop the confidence to scale the walls built by society. I once viewed a woman dancing across rocks and I thought it was one of the most beautiful images of the balance between securing your position in life and taking chances.

Nothing New Here.......2007-02-03
Very disappointing. There's nothing in this book that you can't find in hundreds of other Career books. Furthermore, there's nothing in this book specific to training careers...nothing to guide you on any unique characteristics of the field.
It's just not worth the money. Better to get an old copy of What Color Is Your Parachute.

A Solid Effort!.......2001-10-03
Every "road-to-success" book has some sort of gimmick that sets it apart from the many others in the genre. Chris J. Witting Jr.'s offering is a 21-day exercise regime designed to transform your personality, catapult you up the career ladder and pave over financial potholes. Witting asks readers to devote just a few minutes per day to his program, with each day devoted to a different aspect of getting your life on track. Naturally, that's a lot of ground to cover. But the inherent drama of the countdown to the end of the three-week cycle does keep your interest, thereby encouraging you to take the exercises seriously. And once you've taken that leap, the book does present some intriguing ideas on how to overcome inertia, simplify a cluttered life and harness your existing network of contacts. The instructions are easy to follow and the writing takes a pleasing, matter-of-fact tone. We [...] recommend this book to anyone interested in personal improvement, especially those who have been left less than fulfilled after falling for other "successful" gimmicks.
A Brilliant "INDEX" To Success.......2000-05-22
The title is slightly misleading. This book will require more than 21 days to complete. To understand why, read books like Bob Proctors wonderful book Born Rich or Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. To Change the brain function, to program it for success takes about 6 weeks.
The book is a wonderful synopsis of everything you need to know about success. It is split into 21 chapters, refered to as days. It covers everything you need to know on success.
I have a few suggestions that will enhance your success with this book. I do not think it goes far enough, in many areas. It is a little bit like the crammers note books, which skirt the subjects, so you can cram the night before. If you are a serious student of success, then this book will prove a great introduction text, but will fall short for an in depth analysis.
This book must therefore be read in conjunction with other texts, some I have already alluded to. Other texts that will enhance understanding from this book are; Unstoppable by Cynthia Kersey, Success is not an Accident by Tommy Newberry, Think & Grow Rich Napoleon Hill, Change Your Life With Accelerated Visualisation Harold Kampf, The Powermind System by M. M. Kiefer, Think Like A Leader Harry Adler. There are others that will help, but these are all great books that can be directly linked into the chapters of this book. The author actually offers a comprehensive bibliography with this book. The bibliography is great as it links the recomended books to the individual chapters. This is why the concept of 21 days is misleading. Even the author suggests other texts that must be read.
So to sumarise, it is a great book for the beginners to success. It outlines all the basics. For the more serious student, use it as an index to success. Each chapter points to a principle of success. Take it, read other books on that concept and I guarantee your success. It is, a great index to success.
A great workbook for anyone who wants to use what he learned.......2000-01-01
I've read many self-help books and learned a lot of principles from them. However, I don't even have any personal jounrnal after completing those books. Chris is doing really a good job in designing the 21 Days Countdown and let readers to have their potential ability to put into the real world day by day. I wrote my mission statement in life during the countdown, which I have never done before!
If you are lack of self review and lack of communication to your heart, get a pen and 21 Days Countdown, follow the exercises and you will find it incredibly work for you.
A good book. Easy to read and effective........1999-07-30
21 day countdown to success was recommended to me by a former World Champion Bullrider as a subsititute for Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr Maxwell Maltz. As a psychology major I felt the book didn't go where I wanted it to, that was probably because I am used to reading long and hard to understand books. 21 day Countdown is very easy to read. It is setup in a great way. It takes 21 days to read the book (a chapter a day) and roughly ten minutes to read a chapter. The book is excellent for people who find it hard to follow a book after they open it. Ten minutes a day for 21 days is fairly simple. Not only that, the techniques are effective. This book will put you on the road to success.
Concise. Individualized. A breath of fresh success air........1999-05-16
Just 21 Days! A countdown journey that is well worth the ride. The reader can choose strategies that work best for himself. No one-approach for everyone solution. I've read a lot of success books but the exercises stretched me and I learned a great deal about myself. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends. Thank you Chris!
