Customer Reviews:
Wow.......2007-10-18
Not only is this a great book, but I really admire this family. There is so much useful information in this book, if it doesn't apply to you, it will give you ideas. For instance, I have no storage space in my small apartment, so it is impossible for me to shop a month at a time. I adapted their advice to plan ahead only for two weeks, which I have enough storage space for. Thank you for writing such a great book.
Love the style of this book.......2007-10-18
America's Cheapest Family is a catchy title, & is written in an engaging conversational style. I especially enjoyed the paragraphs occasionally provided by the kids. A refreshing change from other books, to have their point of view included. The ideas presented are solid, & I like the 3 different "levels" at the end of each chapter. You don't feel like a failure if you can't quite reach to such an extreme level. The stories are endearing, especially about their long vacation. There will be something for everyone to learn in this book. An amazing family.
Practical ideas for frugal living.......2007-10-10
I loved this book! I read it cover to cover and have implememted great money saving techniques into my lifestyle. I feel I am already somewhat frugal, but this book gave me great ways to teach my children and to have an even more detailed budget. I ahve implemented some of the tips to save on groceries and am so pleased! I not only am saving money but also valuable time! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for practical money saving tips already put to the test!
It's worth reading.......2007-10-02
I'm a pretty good cheapskate myself so some of these ideas were not new to me. However, even though some of their ideas were so draconian I would never personally do them, it was interesting to read and I got a few ideas from them. I checked the book out of the library instead of buying it, proving another way to be frugal.
The budget that set us free.......2007-09-10
I read this book when my family was spiraling into financial doom. We were spending $250-350 MORE than we were earning--per month. We were looking into selling our home and only car because we couldn't afford our lifestyle. And we were totally sinking in debt.
Then I read AMERICA'S CHEAPEST FAMILY and decided to try the budget outlined in the book. It took me many hours of work at first to figure out all our expenses & debts, but it was so exciting when it started to come together. My husband and I were elated because we finally knew what was wrong with our finances. Before we put everything on paper using their worksheet, we couldn't pinpoint exactly why & how we had lost control. Once we finished listing our costs, our overspending was clear and we knew we could change it.
We've been doing this budget for 5 months now. We're now spending less than we earn. We have money set aside ahead of time for all our bills, even the big ones like car insurance. And I no longer have to pay with the payment plans--I pay the entire bill at once. We've got a now-thriving savings account too. We even pay a little extra for our mortgage each month. And we've also got money set aside for Christmas & birthdays, so we can splurge and have no credit card debt.
The one thing we do differently from the Economides' is that I pay all of our bills automatically (and free) online. It's way easier than checkbooks and you save on stamps and grief.
Utilizing their budget system saved our family. We still own our home and car and I am so grateful. Our son can still play in our yard, which means everything to me. I could see how this budget could be too much for some people... however I actually enjoy the time I spend on it. Seriously, it's all good news now! It's also our plan for the future.
This budget set us free. I never thought I'd ever say that, because you always hear how budgets restrict you, but for us it's the opposite. Now we have financial freedom.
Product Description
What's Happened to Our Contributions? A hundred years ago, collective giving seemed the perfect solution. What one individual or church couldn't do, combined efforts accomplished with ease. National agencies sprung up, offering to spend on our behalf. And we embraced them. Flash forward to days crammed with emails, overtime, and endless commuting. Time is often more valuable than money, and the desire to delegate spiritual privileges and responsibilities is even stronger. Surely national agencies and the professionals who oversee them can carry out the Great Commission faster and more effectively than harried homemakers and stressed executives. But as our time shrinks, national ministries grow larger. What started as lean groups of roll-up-your-sleeves workers have become Paul Bunyan-sized agencies, with excess fat and an overload of middle men draining a big chunk of the money intended for spreading the gospel. Elaborate national headquarters have shot up across America, with presidential office suites rivaling those of top CEOs. And giving isn't the same. Sending a check to a faceless organization doesn't generate the same fulfillment as pressing money into the hand of a young person heading for the mission field. Now the only smiling faces are those of mega leaders. And recently, their smiles have been fading as disenchanted givers voice their displeasure with irresponsible spending. The author of this on-the-edge book proposes an answer. After opening readers' eyes to the tremendous waste of their hard-earned dollars, she offers ways to bring joy and effectiveness back into giving.
Customer Reviews:
Spending God's Money.......2007-09-30
"Spending God's Money" is an honest review of how mega mission organiations can splug on the "widow's mite" they are commissioned to manage. Mary indicates the best use of mission dollars come when the giver is closest to the user of the funds.
A must read for the sheep in the SBC.......2007-05-26
Ministry has become a path to wealth. Too much money with no accountability is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys. We give to the cooperative program for missions...not for private dining rooms and catered lunches for VP's at NAMB. Not to mention the extra money they make writing books on the job and collecting royalties. Has sin been so dumbed down that these people do not even notice that they are using the tithe dollars of brothers and sisters in Christ for personal gain? Shameful.
It has become a monolithe with no REAL spiritual oversight. What is the answer? Send your money to a missionary personally.
My view is if these types of jobs paid less than six figures they may attract more shepherd like men. Take away the celebrity status and no writing books. After all, our Savior had no where to lay His head and Paul made tents.
Spending God's Money.......2007-03-25
Mary Branson has wriiten a couageous report of her experience working for leaders in the Southern Baptist Convention who have been corupted by power. It is an indictment of those who abused and defrauded the laity, but is also an indictment of the laity who failed to monitor and exercise prudent stuardship over God's money. Appropriate auditing and involement by people in the pew might have prevented this dreadful happening. It is a must read for anyone connected with the Southern Baptist Convention.
Spending God's Money.......2007-03-05
Branson shares her first hand knowledge of how these people spent money sent by well-meaning believers for their own indulgent lifestyles. The book is fair and impartial, and lets the reader be the judge. This is a book that needed to be written!
A Riveting Work.......2007-02-06
As painful as it was to read, I was impressed by the fair, direct, and loving manner in which it was written. It serves as a prophetic warning to American shepherds that God will not allow greed to remain hidden forever. I intend to get this book into as many hands as possible.
Customer Reviews:
Spend the money and buy this book.......2007-10-23

Customer Reviews:
Disappointing.......2007-01-10
Is that all???? Felt book was waste of money. Few pages and 101 "ways" were common sense ways such as improve landscaping, add carport/garage, paint house, brighten up rooms, etc. Disappointing.
101 Ways to Massively Increase the Value of Your Real Estate without Spending Much Money.......2006-09-12
Attention: Seasoned RealEstate investers don't waste your time purchasing this book. Ideal for amatuer investors who want to add more value to their piece of real estate.

lame..........2006-01-31
this book is full of useless ideas, good ideas, yes, but common sense...not worth the money...
Good and at times rather funny........2005-09-24
There is not much in this book that was surpricing. Most of the ideas you can think of are in here and then some.
I have been in RE investments for 2 years and I really liked every single one of the ideas in this book. There are ideas in this book that have made me thousands of dollars.
For less then $20 that is a great return on investment.
Book Description
A how-to on the ancient art of physiognomy, updated and practical. Rosetree's system of Face Reading Secrets ® is designed to open your heart, even as it provides knowledge with uncanny accuracy.
Customer Reviews:
Very informative.......2007-07-03
I ordered three face reading books to try to get as much information as I could. This book by far was the best. She adds a bunch of humor. This book is very well written and easy to read. I recommend this to all who are curious about what the face means. I am very pleased.
Useful and Insightful.......2005-12-10
After reading The Power of Face Reading, I am shocked by the response from "Almost Useless". In her book Rosetree asserts that we all have various challenges as well as styles with which we excell at, and I think Rosetree does an excellent job of expressing our different styles for work, spending money, communication, etc. with great compassion and depth. This is not a "too positive spin on every negative interpretation"; it's more a realistic way of looking at our strenghts and weaknesses.
I also firmly disagree with "Almost Useless"'s assertion that some of the interpretations are "just inaccurate." I have done many readings after reading the book, for friends and people that I've just met, and everyone remarks how surprisingly accurate they are! Rosetree also points out that the traits of our face reveal our propensity for a certain style of being. We are all human and can choose to behave in other ways as we choose. Knowing what are preferences are can help us use them with more strength, and to also gain understanding for the strengths and propensities of others. Brilliant for relationships!
In terms of "putting it all together" for doing face readings, I found this to be no problem. Like I said, I started doing readings for friends and new people I met right away. Rosetree also explicity states to set an intention to be of service, and begin with the features that strike you the most, and then notice what you notice next and go from there. This is what I've adhered to and what has made my readings so successful.
Lastly, I would be cautious with the review titled "Gems for Tabliod and Intellectuals." I might chuckle at these having not read the book. Rosetree's book provides much more depth than these quotes reveal. The book shows us that there are many ways to be in the world, and the beauty is that we can choose. I find it powerfully useful to know my style preferences at my very core.
The best of the best!.......2005-12-03
I know this book. I know this author. Rose Rosetree is a woman of the highest integrity and she is a great force. She's been on this path for many years, researching ancient studies and particularly refining the hidden traits found in faces. Each one of her books is a gift. But the wisdom contained in this one, The Power of Face Reading, showers the reader with clues and tips on discovering the very essence of, say, co-workers, first dates, celebrities, politicians -- any person with whom you might come face to face. For those with a sense of wonder and a hunger to know more, this is an easy read.
Amazing insights.......2005-12-02
I found this book, like all the ones I've read by Rose Rosetree, to be witty, insightful, and very useful. When reading this book, keep in mind that reading faces isn't just a formula, which is a point that Ms. Rosetree makes. The whole face needs to be considered, since it is a reflection of the soul as a whole. I use face reading often, and it's amazing how accurate it is. In addition to the companion book WRINKLES ARE GOD'S MAKEUP, I strongly suggest reading AURA READING THROUGH ALL YOUR SENSES. Combining aura reading with face reading is a very powerful tool and provides a far more complete picture.
Almost useless.......2005-05-02
The author tries so hard not to offend anybody, that she puts too positive spin on every possibly negative interpretation and overemphasizes what would already be considered as a positive one. Also, I found the most interpretations just inaccurate. Examples from nose chapter:
short nose - workaholic
long nose - talent for planning and strategy
straight nose - you work systematically
arched nose - creativity
...
Ok, of course you are supposed to interpret everything and put it all together, eliminating contradictions on the way, but the book falls short on instructions how to do that. There should be a chapter titled "putting it together" where the author should explain the process of face reading: what to look first? how to determine basic information about a person and go from there? Instead the book focuses on details without giving you the big picture.

Customer Reviews:
Engaging personal finance tome.......2002-11-12
Everyone knows that couples fight about money but it's still hard to stop. Ms. Knuckey offers strategies to manage the "family" finances without coming to blows. Her advice is sound and understandable. I recommend this book to new couples and those who have been together for a while.
fun and informative!.......2002-11-12
This is an excellent book full of sensible and relevent advice. It is easy to read and well-written. I highly recommend it.
Required Reading for.......2002-11-09
One of the most meaningful books on finance I've ever read. Deborah Knuckey puts complex financial concepts within easy reach of readers of all backgrounds, while keeping the subject matter lively with real-world examples, humorous asides and just plain good advice. I wish I had read this book ten years ago!
Like many people, I have found that while my personal finance was in check, I have had trouble "sharing" money in a relationship. Agreeing how money is to be spent and how it should be handled is one of the most common sources of friction between couples. This book addresses the very real challenge facing people when deciding to share not only their lives, but their money.
Ms. Knuckey clearly explains how people's view on money differs according to their background, education and personalities. Without preaching specific financial advice, her book outlines the most common problems that couples face when handling money together, and some suggested ways in which to mediate, compromise and agree upon mutually beneficial financial strategies.
Buy this book for the new couple in your life. They'll thank you for it later!
Wish I'd read this years ago.......2002-11-06
This book could have saved my first marriage. This time around, my new husband and I are determined to get it right, and we both started reading this last week and doing the exercises - great stuff!
Who would have thought that talking about money can make us closer? This book shows that money doesn't have to be a source of conflict, and we are now developing a financial plan based on our life goals - to grow old together in comfort. The author also offers some great ideas about how to manage the biggest costs in our lives: our house and our cars. A MUST READ!

Customer Reviews:
Doesn't work.......2006-02-23
Program literally doesn't run--just generates an error report to send to Microsoft. Have un-installed and re-installed 3xs to no avail. There is no information as to where to get support, and no help area on the www.familyfn.com website. Luckily I only paid $5 s/h for it--she's giving them away on her website.
Simplistic, lacking depth and personal finance perspective.......2006-01-29
This is not user friendly. And, even after spending the time to learn how to use it, I found it to be superficial and mind numbing.
I found the book Personal Finance for Dummies to be far more useful and practical to address my financial questions and planning.
Not worth the money.......2005-02-17
There was nothing in this book/cd that was anything more than common sense. It didn't help me figure out anything that I didn't already know. Was no help to me what-so-ever. I gave it 1 star only because you can't give a 0.
Can't use with Mac computer.......2005-01-26
There can be no review except that I wasted about $20. The CD is suitable for PC's only. There might well have been a proviso warning Apple Computer owners not to buy the kit.
Why Didn't I Find This Sooner?.......2004-04-07
The kit lives up to the title. Easy to use. Simple to understand. Get my budget done in one sitting. A big help to a young couple who just bought a house and wants to be in financial bliss, not a financial mess.
Book Description
The federal government wastes your tax dollars worse than a drunken sailor on shore leave. In 2004, Congress spent a record-breaking $22.9 billion dollars of your money on over 10,000 of their pork-barrel projects. The war on terror and tax cuts have a lot to do with $500 billion in deficit spending, but it's also the result of pork over the last ten years including: -$50 million for an indoor rainforest in Iowa -$2 billion to build bridges in Alaska that go nowhere -$33 million to study screwworms which were long ago eradicated from all American farms -$90 million to study the effect of TV watching on children. (The study found that too much was harmful.) Funny in some instances and jaw-droppingly stupid and wasteful in others, The Pig Book proves one thing about Capitol Hill: Pork fat is king!
Customer Reviews:
why bother.......2007-03-19
This book is all about small silly items that really don't make a bit of difference when compaired with a day in the Iraq war.
Congress Wastes Too Much of Our Money.......2005-03-21
The Pig Book is the best compilation of pork-barrel spending that I have ever seen. The book is enjoyable to read, and provides some outrageous examples of what Congress is doing with our money. It takes a serious subject and makes it understandable to everyone. Citizens Against Government Waste deserves a lot of credit for taking on the big spenders in Washington. I agree with Sen. John McCain that this book should be read by everyone in America!

Customer Reviews:
great budget book.......2007-08-24
very easy to follow budget book..i sat and read it a few times and used the added worksheets to help me..and i do believe i am on my way to getting our family on a budget..a nice and simple one.
Very disappointing.......2006-10-23
This book is 289 pages and could have easily been 50. By page 80 I was bored and not interested in continuing. If you have a college education, or even remember fifth grade arithmetic, the first 40 pages are insulting. From page 40: "To figure out how much your average electric bill is, add up your last twelve monthly payments to the electric company and divide by twelve." No kidding. Page 38 explains that to determine your annual income, you multiply your monthly income by twelve or your biweekly income by 26.
The cover proudly advertises that the book "features 70 worksheets!" This is because there is a seperate page for what you spent on monday, tuesday, wednesday, etc. There are worksheets for monthly expenses, where each month has its own worksheet. I know I did not have the patience to write "cable bill - $x" on twelve different pages.
I found "the pocket idiots guide to living on a budget" to be much more helpful. After reading this tiny book, I have a working budget and feel totally confident that I will achieve my financial goals. I got nothing from the "everything budgeting book."
Good Place to Start.......2006-07-16
We have several of the "Everything" books and, as usual, we were not disappointed in this one. There are plenty of forms to use to help you layout your budget. They think of things we normally would not have. They cover what do you want vs what do you need and explain the difference. They also cover how to figure out what to budget for each person in the household.
We've tried different ones in the past but this one puts it into understandable English. Doing a budget is hard enough without spending all our time figuring out what a book is trying to tell us.
Easy To Use, Helpful and Practical.......2005-03-28

Book Description
Governments spend trillions every year on subsidies to a whole host of industries, ranging from agriculture to mining, energy to transport. Subsidies are supposed to contribute to the public good, but do they? In the vast majority of cases, the money, much of it derived from public taxes, is not merely wasted, it is used to wreck the environment. All too often, subsidies go to those who least need them -- frequently to corporations and special interest groups which recycle some of the funds to support the politicians who keep the subsidies going.
Charlie Pye-Smith has written a riveting and eye-opening book on this huge racket. Based on research in North America, with examples from Europe and elsewhere, "The Subsidy Scandal" "follows the money" to find out where it goes and what it produces.
Pye-Smith's travels are vibrantly illuminated by interviews with bureaucrats, politicians, loggers, farmers, miners, fishermen, industrialists and environmentalists, and with their help he tells stories of such economic absurdity and environmental vandalism, as would barely be credible if they weren't true.
"The Subsidy Scandal" raises major questions about the way we are governed -- and misgoverned -- and highlights the need for urgent, world-wide reform.
