Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse........2007-09-23
Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse. Has all the details to help you start or clean-up an operation and help it run like a well oiled machine.
This is a must...........2006-10-30
This book is a must for ANY professional working in the finished-goods/products Fulfillment/Distribution world. If your work and responsibilities span anywhere within a FC/DC, you should pick up this book. For less than one hundred bucks, you get one of the best written, concise handbooks I have ever encountered.
It's very important to note that this is not just a dictionary-like handbook, but rather a book that is actually easily readble and enjoyable. It is not for novices, but for anyone with some level of experience, the book comes to life and will help you build depth.
I work for a major e-retailer that disbributes products to end customers. Having worked many years here and picking up most of the know-how from experience alone, I am now questioning why our learning dept doesn't have the insight to make this book a "required" manual for all when we first started. It is excellent and provides great explanations and applications .
Buy it. If I ran a DC/FC, this is a must read for all my mgrs and jr mgrs.
Great warehousing and material handling book.......2003-05-03
This is the best book I've ever found on material handling and warehouse storage. Though a little pricey, this book has content that makes it well worth the cost. Extensive detail on material handling and storage equipment. Also has separate chapters dedicated to small item warehouses, case-pick warehouses, and pallet warehouses.
Anyone designing a new warehouse or redesigning an existing one should read this book.

For use by "the initiated".......2007-02-18
While Gerald & Co's book may look like a good introduction to Oracle's manufacturing & supply chain management modules, it will make little sense to those who have never used the system or don't have access to it. Because I had three years of hands-on experience with Oracle's E-Business Suite, the book is useful and I'm giving it a 3-star rating.
Things that Gerald & Co. could have done better: more illustrations of what they write about. There are many "bells and whistles" in the software, but the book doesn't have enough "screen shots" to show you where they're located on an Oracle "form." I'm not satisfied with the case study, which they have placed in chapter 22. There are no screen shots there either.
Gerald & Co. are assuming you can navigate and know a lot of the Oracle lingo. If you are new to this, don't expect to learn it from this book. The audiences for the book are intermediate and advanced users.
One could also regard this as a reference book. Use it to answer problems you encounter while using the product or better understand what's going on. In this context, I'd rate it 3 stars, too.
A Good Introduction.......2006-11-03
This book is for users of Oracle Manufacturing and has the end-user in mind Definately not for the the technical minded, site specific Installs and for those who are used to Technical Reference manuals

Excellent Oracle reference tool.......2005-10-17
I was part of the Oracle implementation team at our company, and I have found this book to be a useful tool for myself in the year since implementation as we continue to explore new functionalities. It is also a useful tool for the application users to learn how Oracle works. In fact, I not only purchased this book for myself, but I have purchased copies for several other people in the company. I refer to it all the time.
Good Book for the beginners.......2005-08-24
This book is very useful for the beginners as well those who want to brush up their knowledge on oracle applications release 11i.
Mostly it covers all Manufacturing & Distribution modules. Financial modules are not covered in this book. I was planning to buy a book and searching for it and finally ended up in buying a very useful book.
Main drawback is not much of screen captures displayed. So if you want to better understand you have to read it by sitting in front of applications screen and switching the forms as you read.
Overall the book is worth having it.

This book is very informative, realistic, easy to understand and very up to date. I have recommended it to others in the field. If most technical books were like that we may hardly have need for tutors.
Thank You.
Book Description
Wilson and Reeder's Mammal Species of the World is the classic reference book on the taxonomic classification and distribution of the more than 5400 species of mammals that exist today. The third edition includes detailed information on nomenclature and, for the first time, common names. Each concise entry covers type locality, distribution, synonyms, and major reference sources. The systematic arrangement of information indicates evolutionary relationships at both the ordinal and the family level. This indispensable reference work belongs in public and academic libraries throughout the world and on the shelf of every biologist who works with mammals.
Customer Reviews:
Good Product.......2006-03-16
Good book, useful, and essential for students and scientists interested to work with mammals.
a mammalogist bible.......2001-10-22
without doubt Wilson and Reeder's book is THE source of information for people looking for mammals in museums and old scientific publications. the superb listing of synonyms, the listings of the scientist describing the clades, and the brief biogeographic notes makes this book invaluable for people having any taxonomic question. The main attitude seems to be one of splitters, giving a lot of specific names to various populations others consider a single species, the biogeography can be a little more detailed, but there is no other source with that thoroughness and completeness in mammalian taxonomy.
I'm anxiously waiting a new edition

Not Up-to-date But Still Relevant.......2006-02-03
The controls section of this book needs to be updated, but 90% of the book is still relevant. The text tends to lag behind the images, but this book is packed with a ton of helpful information and plenty of pictures. If you're a mechanic and you're working with older equipment, maybe this book is exactly what you're looking for. This is the second book that I bought by Mr. Brumbaugh, and I noticed there's a little over lapping, but still, this book is a few bucks and what you'll get out of it is worth it.
Old School Information, Nothing New For This Generation!.......2005-07-17
Not a very good book. The author James E. Brumbaugh must be recycling his information from the 1st edition. This book is very old school. The pictures are in black and white and seem to be recycled pictures from HVAC theory back in 1960's era.
I would not recommend purchasing this book. I hope the author's next edition will be in color with more "new school" information such as a "Puron" refridgerant techology, modern day HVAC servicing procedures such as "EPA Section 608" information, and more up to date pictures - take pictures of new housing and commercial construction, factory workers putting units together, and a technician working on a actual unit. James E. Brumbaugh is very "old school".

Customer Reviews:
Best introduction book to electronics.......2007-08-08
This book is without doubt the best book introduction to the analysis of electrical circuits. It goes through all the different topics you would expect, node voltage, mesh circuits, intro to capacitors, inductors, RC circuits. Stuff like that. It has also one of the best explanations I have ever seen on the Laplace Transform. After reading that chapter you can see how great of a tool the Laplace Transform is. This is one of the most organized books you will ever see. It is truly amazing and for anyone wanting to get a start into understanding basic circuit analysis this is the book.
Junk.......2007-05-14
I would not purchase this manual unless the instructor mandated it. It has very few relevant examples from the book. I needed an example guide for the homework problems and it was worthless. I will try and resell it.
Fantastic practical introduction with emphasis on calculations.......2005-08-01
Chapter 1 introduces basic concepts in electricity such as charge, voltage, current, resistance and Ohms law.
Chapter 2 then delves into basic DC circuit analysis of series and parallel circuits using KVL and KCL and the concepts of source transformation and circuit reduction.
Chapter 3 gives you more techniques to solve for difficult circuit analysis problems based on node and mesh analysis. Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits are introduced.
Chapter 4 - so far the book has dealt with passive circuits. The authors now turn to active circuits. Transistors and OP amps are introduced with 4 basic signalling functions namely inverting/noninverting amps, diff amp and inverting summer. These are combined in different ways to give different signal processing properties. Analysis of op amp circuits is presented using nodal analysis techniques.
Chapter 5- now the authors deal with signal waveforms in particular step functions, exponential waveforms and sinusoidal waveforms.
Chapter 6 introduces the capacitor and inductor along with their I-V relationships and parallel and series reductions. These are then applied to active circuits and we obtain two other basic op amp circuits namely the integrator and differentiator.
Chapter 7 deals with 1st and 2nd order circuits so named since they are described by first and second order diff eq. RC and RL circuits are discussed followed by step and sinusoidal responses of 1st order circuits. RLC series and parallel circuits are next followed by step and sinusoidal responses of 2nd order circuits.
Chapter 8 is of a mathematical nature dealing with the use of phasors and sinusoidal steady state response. Phasor analysis is introduced with corresponding KVL and KCL laws and various circuit theorems. The concept of impedence is explained clearly.
Chapter 9 deals with Laplace transforms and their mathematical properties. One learns how to write them and to use the inverse transform to get back to the time domain from the "s" domain.
Simple circuit analysis using Laplace transforms is shown. One writes the diff eq for the circuit, converts it to s domain using laplace transform, you solve it using algebraic techniques and then use the inverse transform.
Chapter 10 gives you more theorems to use in s-domain analysis. The equivalent circuit theorems nodal and mesh analysis theorems are presented. We see that s-domain analysis is more than a mathematical trick rather it gives one deeper insight into the circuit. The natural poles allow one to determine the form, stability and observability of the circuits response.
Chapter 11 introduces the concept of network functions ( zero state response to input response in s domain ) in particular transfer ( different ports ) and driving point impedance ( same port ) functions and their use in circuit analysis. We also see how the use of transfer functions allows one to find a steady state response of circuit directly from the transfer function.
Chapter 12 deals with frequency response. Low pass, high pass, passband, and stopband concepts are introduced. Bode plots are explained.
Chapter 13 introduces fourier series and chapter 14 analog filter design
I did not read chapter 15 or 16
The book is replete with simple exercises progressing to more difficult ones with plenty of worked out examples.
A mature student can cover the material in most of the book in a few weeks . There are really very few basic concepts ( charge, voltage, current, I-V relationships in resistors, inductors, capacitors, natural generalization to impedance, Equivalent circuits with methods of reduction including KCL, KVL, parallel, series, Norton, Thevinen equivalents, nodal and mesh analysis concepts, active components and their properties, types of signal waveforms, steady state responses, phasor analysis, s-domain analysis using Laplace transform, network functions, frequency response principals of filter design and fourier series) numbering 30 or so that are combined in a straightforward way to solving circuit design and analysis problems.
This by no means indicates that circuit analysis and design is easy but rather like most other fields, the concepts are basic but their possible combinations and interactions are almost limitless. Often finding A solution is not enough. One must find a solution that meets several other criteria as well including multi-purpose use, cost efficiency, construction feasibility, etc.
It's a good book.......2004-08-24
it's definitely one of the best books I've found in this field. It's complete and the most of the arguments are explained in a very easy way. There are many exercises with solutions -very useful- but unfortunately the book doesn't have all the results of the exercises.
Don't buy!.......2003-06-26
It's definitely for first year's students. But its title is very attractive and exagerrated. I have sent it back and taken my money. It's not worth a cent..
Especially I have hate the blue drawn circuit diagrams..like a cartoon magazine..

Elements of Large Sample Theory.......2006-08-26
A very good textbook which I needed to get hold of for a uni unit I am studying. It's a bit abstract in places but worth it, very interesting reading from an experienced statistician. It came a lot quicker than I expected too, in just over 1 week, compared to 4-6 weeks which various bookshops told me I'd have to wait. Great effort Amazon!
great treatment of asymptotic theory.......2000-08-08
Erich Lehmann is well known for his advanced statistical texts on hypothesis testing and estimation. he has also written a nice intermediate level text on nonparametric methods based on ranks. This book is another advanced text providing a thorough treatment of asymptotic (large sample theory) methods. It is very modern and includes such popular current topics as bootstrap and density estimation.

Book Description
An understanding of statistical thermodynamic molecular theory is fundamental to the appreciation of molecular solutions. This complex subject has been simplified by the authors with down-to-earth presentations of molecular theory. Using the potential distribution theorem (PDT) as the basis, the text provides an up-to-date discussion of practical theories in conjunction with simulation results. The authors discuss the field in a concise and simple manner, illustrating the text with useful models of solution thermodynamics and numerous exercises. Modern quasi-chemical theories that permit statistical thermodynamic properties to be studied on the basis of electronic structure calculations are given extended development, as is the testing of those theoretical results with ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. The book is intended for students taking up research problems of molecular science in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, nanotechnology and biotechnology.
