Suze Orman's face and name are more prominent on the cover of her new money guide than its title, The Road to Wealth. And why not? Orman has parlayed her popular renown as both a New York Times bestselling author and video-age financial guru into an undeniable position of respect and trust when it comes to matters of dollars and sense. This time she presents an encyclopedic guide to the various components of one's overall financial life--from managing debt and owning a home to making investments and preparing to pass it all along--and she does so in the clear and confident style to which her fans have become accustomed. "Here is what you need to know," she writes at the outset. "Answers to the questions you have been asking, as well as the questions you should have been asking, delivered in the most complete, straightforward way I know." While the concise text moves logically from "creating a strong financial foundation to amassing assets and protecting them from common mistakes and periods of economic downturn," this is not meant to be read from cover to cover. Rather, it is a ready bookshelf reference for planning and sorting out common finance concerns, like how to calculate the mortgage payment you can best afford, determine what Medicare will pay toward nursing care, decide between retirement plan options, and similar matters of personal importance. --Howard Rothman

5 out of 5 stars The Road to Wealth: A Comprehensive Guide to Your Money.......2007-08-24

What an amazing book !!!! At 40, I know nothing of financing. Religiously living paycheck to paycheck and raising young children, life gets to be overwhelming. This book has empowered me to look at my finances, my life in a whole new light. There is a way to help my children. I wish Suze Orman could be my financial planner. I have learned so much and yet I have so much more to learn thanks to her advice, insight and experience. This book is an incredible beginning for my journey. If only I had known earlier.

3 out of 5 stars Not really worth what I paid for it.......2007-06-20

But it did include some information that's nice to know. My investment strategy is a bit more aggressive and this audio-book leaned conservative. Then again, I wasn't familiar with Suze Orman before purchasing this book. So all in all, I'd say it's a decent read for most people, though I would have probably benefited more from her "Young and Broke."

3 out of 5 stars Good overview.......2007-05-13

Book is giving a good overview on many different options for investing money. Writing is fluent and easily to understand also for newcomers in this field. There is no difficult language. Reading this will improve any discussion you might have with a so called financial advisor.

5 out of 5 stars Suze is awesome.......2007-02-24

Suze really knows how to explain finances in a easy way for anybody to understand. I liked it so much I told my boss about it who bought it and also I bought the book for my father who is close to retirement.
Thanks,
Suze

Book Description

The writers of the tremendously popular Web site CollegeHumor.com have prepared a hilarious, entertaining guide that dares young readers to make college the best and funniest four (or more) years of their lives.

CollegeHumor.com is the National Lampoon of its generation. Since its creation in early 2000, the Web site has grown to become the nation's most recognized comedy brand for young people. With eight million unique visitors a month, quarterly revenues surpassing $1.2 million, and a successful line of merchandise (from T-shirts to novelties)—not to mention a deal with Paramount to create and brand movies with CollegeHumor's imprimatur—CollegeHumor is truly a franchise in the making.

The CollegeHumor Guide to College is a laugh-out-loud depiction of the college experience. Written primarily by two of CollegeHumor's most popular columnists, Ethan Trex and Streeter Seidell, this guide features all-new material not found on the Web site. It also includes helpful advice—the kind you probably won't hear from a college counselor—on an array of subjects, such as food, clothing, parents, dating, sex, drinking, and roommates. Filled with outrageous illustrations, this edgy and irreverent book will be indispensable to all present and future undergraduates.

1 out of 5 stars College boy didn't like this gift..........2007-10-17

I purchased this book for my little brother who just started his sophomore year in college based on these great reviews. However, he really did not like it, and thought it was really stupid. Not a great gift, apparently.

5 out of 5 stars The realest!.......2007-06-03

This is such a funny book and even though things are said in a humorous way, most of what is said is true. I have laughed out loud several times while reading this book. But besides being so funny it also has a lot of useful stuff in it. There are a lot of tips in it like what is important to pack for moving to a dorm, some quick and easy recipes for those that don't cook, the fastest, neatest way to fold a shirt. What can be better than a book that makes you laugh AND help you out? Anyone that is in, has been in, or is planning to go to college will love it. This book is great!

5 out of 5 stars This could be the greatest book of all time.......2007-05-14

I am a high school senior, who hates to read. but let me tell you, this book is probably one of the greatest book EVER written. It explains the entire college experience from the last days of high school all the way through college graduation and everything in between. This book is a must have for any high school senior. Hands down. Basically if you are getting ready to go to college, buy this book because it is as important as your freshmen orientation.Hope you enjoy the book as much as i do.

5 out of 5 stars Oh, what little did I know.......2007-05-13

College life planned in a book and mixed with all the drugs you could do.

5 out of 5 stars Love The Site, Love The Book.......2007-03-28

I thought I'd already written a review for this but I hadn't! How bad is that? It's because I mixed some of the potent drinks described on the book and on the site. This book is very funny. It has two of the key writers from the site on it, Sarah and Streeter, who do most of the writing for the site or at least used to, and that helps keep it up to the high standards of the site. Some others have come on, some of who just aren't as good. It has alot of funny concepts and comments on college and college life. It's clever and original and in your face. The new book from the site Faking It isn't as good, but it's an okay read. God is a Woman - Dating Disasters is really good, too, Sarah and Streeter reviewed it with high marks. I also started this new book Schmucks by Jackie Mason and its very funny, too, talking about all the crazy stars of today and their behavior, like Mel Gibson. Anyway this book gets you to ask "What am I doing here?" about college in a fun way. If you think about it, the whole idea of college is really kind of bizarre, but a really fun bizarre that keeps us from having to face life for another 4 years - or 5 - or 6 - or, Jesus, just how bad are your grades?

5 out of 5 stars Great Overview of the Wide variety of "Safe" investments........2000-10-07

This book goes through about 30 different types of low-risk investments and explains the pros and cons for each. I have this book from the library but I am buying it today to keep as an excellent reference guide for the future. This book is a great help for a person who is confused about all the low-risk choices out there. Dr. Kevin Grold

3 out of 5 stars good overview of investing options.......2000-05-25

"Low Risk Investing" provides loads of factual information about the various investing options available to individuals. It provides clear discussions of all reasonable investing choices- equity investments(stocks, real estate) and debt investments(CDs, bonds, ...)- and tax considerations and portfolio fit. Unlike many other books I've read on investing, this book is mostly an objective discussion of the investing options and does not have all that much advice- but you can gain valuable info from this book. The only drawback is that now, in 2000, the book doesn't have ROTH IRA info or new tax info, but as a first book the read on investing, this is a good choice.

5 out of 5 stars Best book ever written on business buying.......2001-05-23

This 8 step process covers all the necessary issues incountered when buying a decent business where you can earn a handsome living like say $300,000 per year. This book is like a mini MBA on business analysis and strategy for dealing with the seller, financing sources, new employees, due diligence, determining if the business is right and professionals like CPAs and Attorneys. I especially like the stategy for dealing with a seller who does not yet know that they should and want to sell there busines. This book should be thoroughly studied and analyzed paying special attention to the exact words used by Mr. Haines. He is a master. I have read this book about 50 times and every time I get something more from it. I am a CPA and now know that I am deal savy and could easily employ these procedures for a client.

5 out of 5 stars The reality of how to find, evaluate and obtain a winner.......1999-04-24

This book is a master businessman shareing the fruit of many years of experience and achievement. He takes you from the beginning to end of succesful business acqusition by maximizing the financial resources available in the market place and using the pschology that is in play when it is time to sell a profitable business.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......1998-06-13

It really sucks that this book is no longer available. Lionel Haines is one of the few authors I have ever read, who talked about getting some kind of business other than a SUBWAY shop, MAILBOXES ETC., or KINKO'S COPY. He talks about getting real businesses like machine shops and computer chip recycling. He gives ideas on how to find out how to find out about the business if you know nothing about it. It's a shame he passed away. I would have liked to have met him.

Giving you basic everyday principles to apply and think about. With great examples of how we take our money for granted and use it poorly and how not to. My husband and I have been selling on ebay for about three years now, and we're always looking for new information to help improve our business. This book gave us a lot of great ideas which we put into action the first week after reading. It's an easy book to read and understand, and we both couldn't put it down until we were finished reading. If you're not into ebay, it also gives great advise on other avenues for selling your goods. Buy this book, you'll be pleased!

5 out of 5 stars Worked Like MAGIC.......2007-09-10

This is a great book that I recommend. I purchased the book for the guide but it provided so much more. I have been selling on eBay part time but was always in need of things to sell - NO MORE. Thanks to this book, my husband and I went to our first storage shed auction (recommended by the authors) and we purchased one full of great things. Inside the shed we purchased are some great antiques, some very nice china, some English porcelain figurines, tools but the best was a jewelry box. The jewelry box had 2 14kt gold necklaces and a 14kt gold ring with a beautiful ruby. It also was filled with tons of very nice costume jewelry! We are going to make a ton of money off this one purchase - thank you Daren and Nancy for this wonderful book - I Bought it - I'm selling it - and I am MAKING MONEY -- YA

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Book - Recommended.......2007-07-26

5 out of 5 stars Already paid for itself !.......2007-07-24

I am very excited about this book - I have only had it for two weeks and I have already made back three times the money of what I paid for the book! The advice is straightforward and the Good, Better, Best guide in the back helps me find the right items to buy so I don't make mistakes or miss opportunities. This is not one of those get-rich-quick books -that tells people to invest in real estate or the stock market. This is a great book about reselling (or Being a Flipster) everyday items and luxury items -that can be found at auctions, garage sales and flea-markets. I started out with just $10.00 on my first trip and was able to buy great stuff for resale. ! It is very exciting to be able to buy something and then resell it for a profit. It is like going to Las Vegas and pulling down the arm on a winning slot machine - but you win EVERYTIME

5 out of 5 stars Insightful and Informative.......2007-07-22

I really enjoyed reading this book - it provides useful information on how to buy smartly and invest in your purchases instead of just buying things because some ad on TV tells you to do so. I think any person who buys things to resell or is planning on trying that business must have this book! However, you do not have to be an eBay seller to get beneficial tips from this book. I do not plan to buy items for resell - yet, I found their information practical and helpful for my everyday life. The information is presented in an easy to read and understand format - conversational and actually very entertaining.
