Book Description
"The Long Tail" is a powerful new force in our economy: the rise of the niche. As the cost of reaching consumers drops dramatically, our markets are shifting from a one-size-fits-all model of mass appeal to one of unlimited variety for unique tastes. From supermarket shelves to advertising agencies, the ability to offer vast choice is changing everything, and causing us to rethink where our markets lie and how to get to them. Unlimited selection is revealing truths about what consumers want and how they want to get it, from DVDs at Netflix to songs on iTunes to advertising on Google. However, this is not just a virtue of online marketplaces; it is an example of an entirely new economic model for business, one that is just beginning to show its power. After a century of obsessing over the few products at the head of the demand curve, the new economics of distribution allow us to turn our focus to the many more products in the tail, which collectively can create a new market as big as the one we already know. The Long Tail is really about the economics of abundance. New efficiencies in distribution, manufacturing, and marketing are essentially resetting the definition of whats commercially viable across the board. If the 20th century was about hits, the 21st will be equally about niches.

Good article, stretched out to a padded book.......2007-09-26
This book started off as an article in Wired Magazine, and it was an excellent one. But Anderson must have decided to cash in, because the book doesn't add anything that wasn't covered in the article itself. It's not a complex concept.
Read the article on the Wired website. Then go spend your money on something from a tiny niche market.
One Trick Pony.......2007-09-09
This is one of those books that has one, keen insight and then takes one hundred + pages to say the same thing over and again. The keen point is indeed interesting. It just does not a complete book make. My $.02 !!
Good book for the startup entrepreneur in the 21-century .......2007-08-20
This is an insightful book into the today's world of retail business. Cool examples of how the Internet has leveled the playing field for many small businesses and artist.
Looking at it from the point of view of the producer and not the consumer or the retailer .......2007-08-16
I am not much of a business mind but I think I get the picture here. Instead of twenty percent of the product bringing in eighty percent of the revenue ninety- eight percent of the product is going to bring in all the revenue. Having so much available, and having ready access to it means sales no longer concentrate on a relatively few items. Freedom of choice abounds, niches multiply, Alvin Toffler is happy, future shock is no longer shocking, customization is here forever, and we all can have anything we want as long as we are able to pay for it.
Good. But I think of this in another way. Does this mean that 'value' also will not be centered as we ordinarily center it in the great works, the masterpeices, the few chosen ones? Does it mean our whole conception of valuing cultural goods will change, and a few big things will be less worshipped while many more appreciated? In other words will deTocqueville be happy here because 'equality' is in the saddle and mankind has many little good things, instead of the aristocracy only having a few?
And what does that mean for creators of culture? As a writer can I now happily post my unpublished writings with the thought that perhaps a few will read them, where before none did. In other words a moneyless long- tail is still a long- tail.
I don't know. But I do sense Anderson has hit on to a new truth here which will have all kinds of implications better business people than me will have to see.

Good Primer for Marketing People.......2007-10-10
This is a good fundamental description of different marketing measurments. These metrics used to be taught to people in the business as they worked their way up the ranks. Unfortunately, today there is virtually no marketing training being done at most organizations. This book can help those people who want to know how to look at a marketing from a more analytical basis and do a better job at managing the marketing for their company. I have already given it to two clients to help them do their job better.
Carry This Book with You.......2007-10-01
If a marketer really wants to be a good business person, then they should carry this book with them. I dislike hearing recent graduates say "Buy One Get One Free" when asked for promotion ideas. If you understand the financial consequences of that type of promotion then it's OK to suggest it. But the point is this book helps you think about the many types of measurements. At one point in my career I had three Product Managers work for me. This book would have been one that I insisted they read.
Is it Really About Metrics..But There's More To it Than That.......2007-09-05
I think this book is an important tool in terms of measuring marketing and trying to ensure that you have the opportunity to understand your marketing outreach.
I also liked the newly released book, "Value Acceleration" by Mitchell Gooze and Ralph Mroz and think it should serve as a companion to this book in terms of truly identifying how marketing and sales can successfully work together and in terms of lean process, keeping the global competitive edge way beyond metrics.Value Acceleration: The Secrets to Building an Unbeatable Competitive Advantage
Looks great.......2007-07-05
It's still early to rate as I just got the book, but it's definitely valuable.
Whatever is most important can, indeed must be measured...accurately and consistently........2007-05-09
Obviously, it is highly desirable to measure what matters and that is especially true of marketing initiatives. Here's the challenge which many (most?) readers will face after they finish reading this volume: Which metrics are the most appropriate for their specific organization? Co-authors Paul W. Farris, Neil T. Bendle, Phillip E. Pfeifer, and David J. Reibstein offer 50+ and in an ideal business world, every executive can - and will - master all of them. That is possible but highly unlikely. Fortunately, the authors offer a wealth of information and observations that can guide and inform the selection of those metrics that will enable executives to "gather and analyze basic market data, measure the core factors that drive their business models, analyze the profitability of individual customer accounts, and optimize resource allocation among increasingly fragmented media.
To the authors' substantial credit, they make effective use of a number of reader-friendly devices which enliven what would be an otherwise dull textbook and they do without compromising the integrity of research-driven insights which so many books on marketing lack. These devices include definitions, formulas, and brief descriptions of various metrics. They also include within individual chapters several sections, such as "Construction" (e.g. metrics issues concerning their formulation, application, interpretation, and strategic ramifications), "Data Sources, "Complications, and Cautions" (i.e. an analysis of the limitations of the metrics under consideration, and their potential inadequacies once executed), and "Related Metrics and Concepts" (briefly surveyed). This is by no means an "easy read" but will generously reward those who absorb and digest its material with appropriate rigor.
Although I believe this volume can be of substantial value to executives in almost all organizations (regardless of size or nature), I think it will be of greatest benefit to those - probably in larger companies -- who have an urgent need for accurate and consistent measurement of, for example, the dynamics behind their market share; the profitability of producing, pricing, selling, distributing, and servicing what they offer; and the ROI of marketing initiatives within the framework of enterprise financial metrics.
Those who share my high regard for this volume are urged to check out Enterprise Architecture As Strategy: Creating a Foundation for Business Execution by Jeanne W. Ross, Peter Weill, and David Robertson as well as Ram Charan's Know-How: The 8 Skills That Separate People Who Perform from Those Who Don't, Lynda Gratton's Hot Spots: Why Some Teams, Workplaces, and Organizations Buzz with Energy - And Others Don't, Robert J. Herbold's Seduced by Success: How the Best Companies Survive the 9 Traps of Winning, Jack Alexander's Performance Dashboards and Analysis for Value Creation, and Michael Useem's The Go Point: When It's Time to Decide--Knowing What to Do and When to Do It.

Dr. John Sarno caused quite a ruckus back in 1990 when he suggested that back pain is all in the head. In his bestselling book, Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection, he claimed that backaches, slipped discs, headaches, and other chronic pains are due to suppressed anger, and that once the cause of the anger is addressed, the pain will vanish. Relieved Amazon.com readers call this book "liberating" and say "it sounds too good to be true, but it is true." Sarno has returned with The Mindbody Prescription, in which he explains how emotions including guilt, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem can stimulate the brain to manufacture physical symptoms including fibromyalgia, repetitive strain injuries, migraine headaches, hay fever, colitis, ulcers, and even acne. If these psychosomatic problems all sound a little Freudian, what with the repression of emotions in the unconscious, it's because Sarno unapologetically borrows from Freud for the basis of his theory and cites childhood trauma as a major source of emotional problems. He also says that his program is a "talking cure" of sorts, since patients must be convinced their pain is rooted in their emotions before healing can begin.
The book reads a bit like psychology text, with Sarno quoting from psychoanalytic theorists including Heinz Kohut and Graeme Taylor and the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition). Sarno walks through the neurophysiology of mindbody disorders, lists the symptoms of dozens of disorders that he believes are emotion-based, and offers a basic program for overcoming psychosomatic pain and illness. His recovery plan includes meditation and sometimes psychotherapy, including behavior modification, and stopping any medication or physical therapy. While Sarno's ideas seem radical, they were commonly implemented earlier in the 20th century, when psychoanalysis was at its peak of popularity, and they promise to become more accepted in our current era of alternative medical therapies and anger management. --Erica Jorgensen

worked for me.......2007-09-23
quick comment: I bought this book on a whim and it worked. Thank goodness I gave it a try. I'm back to my normal life style after 2 years of pain controlling my every move...
This book has helped my sister and my best friend!.......2007-09-20
I purchased two copies of this for my sister and my best friend, both of whom have been suffering from a number of painful disorders. Both of them wrote to me very quickly after receiving the book and reported that it makes so much sense that they were excited and relieved to find such great information and ideas that were immediately helpful. I'm buying two or three more copies for other family and friends - it's a small price to pay for such wonderful results! Highly recommend!
What a relief!.......2007-09-17
Nearly 10 years ago a friend told me about this book. I had upper back pain that I attributed to yoga. There was no definitive moment of injury. I just woke up with this pain in my neck that started radiating down my arm. No structural problem was found through xray. I went to a chiropractor and ran after 1 session (not for me) and then physical therapy. After 2 months (!) the hospital kicked me out of physical therapy (!!) with residual pain that I figured I'd just "deal with". It pretty much faded but every so often I'd have an attack and I'd go get a cortisone shot or accupuncture. Not too bad.
Then in 2004 I got the mother of all pains: a lower back/sciatica pain that settled in and wouldn't leave. Again, MRIs, Xrays, etc. found nothing. I thought it was because of a severe left leg fracture that required 2 surgeries and 1 years total in a cast and crutches. I figured it threw out my alignment. Interestingly though, I developed the pain a few days after I met my biological mother (as an adult) who abandoned me at birth. I recognized the significance but I could not imagine this much pain could be attributed to that. The pain kept on and I was getting worse every minute. I felt like dying because chronic pain is something that we just cannot live with. I got on strong painkillers and finally found 1 that didn't anesthetize me so I could function and feel normal. I also got Raynaud's phenomenon too, never mind bouts of IBS and constipation over the years.
After a couple of years of stability with the pain meds generally blocking the sciatica pain, my upper back/neck pain kicked in with a vengeance this summer. It'd come and go but finally it settled for good. I remembered Dr. Sarno and ran for this book. To be fair, I had my second physical therapy visit 3 days ago. The next day I read the first half of the book and today I finished it. Right now I can move my neck around like normal. Its a little tender but not like the cripple Quasimoto neck I felt I had on Fri., so bad that I was ready to kill someone.
I am a counselor and a therapist, so when I first picked up "Healing Back Pain" I thought I already knew what he was saying so what's the point of reading it. I knew that emotions affected the body. I just didn't think it could possibly be causing as much acute pain, in 1 specific spot, like I was then experiencing. Well, it does. I am a believer now. Like he described, the pain will just keep moving and in a way that cannot be accounted for by a structural problem. How is it that my left side sciatica every now and then moves to the right? Or that my upper typically left side neck pain is on my right? I guess you really have to get to a point where you are willing to believe it (sort of like the surrender process in recovery from substances), or be willing to try to believe it, in order for it to work. I am going to start working on my rage issues some more(yes, there are plenty of reasons for rage in my life, past and present) and see if that will alleviate the sciatica pain I'd written off as hopeless. Actually, speaking of rage, at the age of 10 years old I had these terrible, painful attacks in my liver area. No one could figure out why. At the age of 21, I was finally diagnosed in the ER with gallstones that were on the verge of bursting my gallbladder and so I had to have it removed. Because of my age no one had thought that I could be having gallbladder problems. In Chinese medicine, the liver/gallbladder is the seat of anger. Pretty telling.
It worked for me.......2007-09-15
One previous reviewer states if you are scientifically minded, this book won't work for you. Well, I am not only scientifically minded, I am a scientist. Actually if you are a scientist and a bit familiar with empirical science and experimental design, it could make more sense because you will be less likely to misread it, and you could also check the medical literature, in particular evidence-based medicine reviews, yourself regarding the effectiveness of various traditional treatment modalities. I am grateful to Dr. Sarno. If you think TMS applies to you, I also recommend books by other authors who wrote about TMS, in particular Dr. Mark Sopher, Fred Amir, and Dr. Nancy Selfridge.
Psychological explanation of apparently physical pain and its treatment.......2007-08-05
Firstly, like most things in life, this probably won't work for everyone. However, if you read it with an open mind and finish the book, its likely to help you.
Coming from a family of allopathic doctors, I was somewhat sceptical about the theory (TMS) proposed by Dr Sarno which he has termed Tension Myositis Syndrome. However, it is actually completely in line with allopathic medicine, he just believes that the cause of most pain is psychological/psychosomatic rather than simply a physical/structural one.
The crux of his theory is that the mind/brain employs a mechanism to deal with emotional/psychological problems that the sufferer is unable to acknowledge or deal with on a conscious level by initiating a seemingly physical response (normally by reducing the blood flow to a certain physical area) which produces real pain in that area so that the suffer is focused on the physical pain rather than dealing with in many ways much more debilitating psychological/emotional pain.
This relationship between the mind and the body is, Dr Sarno believes, a sort of defense mechanism.
Sarno is clearly a very learned and experienced Dr and has a vast amount of knowledge, not just of allopathic medicine but also psychiatry (Freud) and complementary therapies.
His writing style is very simple and straightforward but very well researched and explained and he gives case studies to back up his claims. For what it's worth his theory and treatment method has been endorsed by several well-known celebrities including Anne Bancroft (RIP) and Howard Stern.
My personal experience was that I was suffering from excrutiating back and shoulder pain which rendered me unable to work using a computer. This made me extremely depressed as it limited me physically and had a big psychological impact. After numerous costly sessions at the osteopath and extensive physiotherapy I was not getting any better. I came across this book online and as a last resort I bought it. After reading the book I started to slowly feel better and now, two years on, my pain has completely gone. I occasionally get the odd twinge but I now know that it is nothing structural and will dissipate and that it is likely a referred emotional worry. As soon as I recognised this consciously and allowed myself to accept the possibility that there was something bothering me that I was unable/unwilling to face, I found the pain subsided.

I never knew about any of this!.......2007-10-21
I love it when a book comes along that points out web site functions I never realized existed. This book packs a lot of information into a compact read, which makes it easy to get through but steers you in exactly the right marketing direction. The way he assigns ratings to the various marketing techniques helps one decide what to tackle first.
A solid looks at the basics.......2007-10-14
As the author of the recently self-published Hokie Games: Virginia Tech Football Game by Game 1945-2006 I devoured the contents of this book to try to jump-start my Amazon sales. I can't speak to the results just yet as the portion of the suggestions that I have implemented has only been in place for a week or so.
In fact, part of the appeal of the book is that it's not supposed to show results yet. It's not a quick "make you book an instant Amazon bestseller" plan. The book has tips and techniques that grow your presence over the long haul. That's exactly what I was looking for and this book delivers.
The steps were easy to follow and the "why's" were well laid out. Obviously, the author did his homework on the subject of Amazon.
--Rich Tandler, author of Hokie Games: Virginia Tech Football Game by Game 1945-2006
Great asset for POD authors.......2007-09-23
When I purchased this book, I was really quite skeptical. I figured that it was just a promotion of Amazon.com and not really any useful advice.
Then my wife and I published our first children's book, Santa and Sam's Big Secret through Outskirts Press. Although OP did a wonderful job of publishing the book, the major portion of publicity for the book was left up to us. We have been following some of the advice offered by Brent Sampson and we do believe that it is helping with the promotion of our book.
Sell Your Book on Amazon is an easy read. You can easily skip over chapters that you do not feel interest you, and still come up with many ideas that will help you to promote your book.
I would recommend this book to any authors who are using a Publish On Demand publisher. It will surely enhance the sales of your book.

Buy this book if you want to sell books too!.......2007-09-12
I wrote a book called, "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening." It took three years to write. I spent another year sending it to publishers before I finally found a small publisher willing to work with me.
The Great Day came. I held my baby in my hands. I knew the world would proclaim her beauty. I was wrong, very wrong. A few friends and friends of friends bought the book. I was stunned and hurt too. But I kept trying to market my book the old fashioned way. I contacted the major book chains. To them I did not exist. I sent over 100 books to bookstores, and I never got a single order. I sent about 100 books to major newspapers, and I never got a single review.
One local bookstore, New Renaissance Bookshop in Portland, Oregon was very helpful. But the support of one local bookstore was not enough. I was almost ready to give up, but instead I went to Amazon and joined the Amazon Advantage program. I sold perhaps 20 books. Victory at last! Amazon loved me and I loved Amazon! And then I did not sell another book on Amazon for about a month.
I was ready to give up. But I knew my book could help readers feel better about themselves. I had received dozens of touching letters that left me feeling happy that something I had done made a difference in the world. Besides, I needed the money. Family illnesses had depleted my bank account and my debt was mounting. So, instead of quitting, I did an Amazon search for books on marketing books, and I found, "How to Sell Your Book on Amazon," by Brent Sampson.
I wish I had found this book a year ago. If you have a book you are trying to sell, or if you want to write a book, buy this book. Unless you are that rare writer who pens a bestseller, you will find yourself alone in a big jungle. Amazon gives you a path out of the jungle, and Brent Sampson's book is the guide.
Honestly, I have just started implementing his suggestions. So I have lots of work to do. After I finish this review, I will ask him to be my Amazon friend. I might ask him to review "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening." He said to mention my book as often as possible without being obnoxious. And finally, he said Amazon friends are important. You see, if you become my friend, whenever anyone goes to your Amazon profile and clicks on my picture in your Friends section, there's a chance I will sell a book. And if someone clicks on your picture in my Friends section, you might sell a book. So, do you want to be my friend? Good heavens, I feel like a little kid again.
I will make a deal with you. In a year, I will write another review of "Sell Your Book on Amazon" and let you know how I am doing. Thank you, John C. Conley, author of "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening."

Great for large complex sales.......2007-04-29
The (new!) strategic selling technique is optimal for large complex sales - how do you sell the implementation of an enterprise software system, or the outsourcing of customer care? These types of sales require more than product innovation, advertising, or dropping a pair of football tickets off to the buyer. They require an in depth understanding of the customer organization, and both what drives change, and what stops it. The methods here aren't an "Everywhere for everything" panaceas - you don't need them to get more shelf space for Cheerios - but the are great for organizing attacks on the big sales.
Excellent Sales Strategy Approach.......2007-03-02
A real strategic approach to building business relationships and getting sales that have the best chance of delivering a win-win for both you and the client.
I "dumbed down" to a one-page crib sheet that I try to follow in my consulting business. It's worked very well so far. That said, if your target market is small businesses (25 or less employees), while the strategy will work, it may be too much of an effort up front for the potential pay-off down the road. If your target is companies of 2,000+ employees, this is a must.

Great Process For Sales!.......2007-02-25
This book helped me understand the four major buying positions within an organization; Coach, User Buyer, Technical Buyer and Economic Buyer. Once I understood the roles each of these play during a complex sale, it helped me concentrate on the position and not the personality. This book helped me understand the objectives of each buying position and gave me pointers on how to take advantage with the proper communication techniques. I highly recommend it for all sales people who are trying to sell to large corporations.
Outstanding book.......2006-11-03
This book really helps you to find all the right people to help make your sell successful. I recommend it to every sales person.

Some good advice, some bad..........2007-10-23
There really is no substitute for experience, and even then there are times where experience is worthless if we haven't learned from it. Books about eBay can help to close the gap between new seller and experienced seller, but none are all encompassing. It is my belief that a great ebay seller is one that is well seasoned AND well read. Can this book augment the latter? Hmm...
I do like how the book breaks the mold of cookie cutter eBay books that simply copy and paste information from eBay's own help section. Instead, this work shares a lot of insight that one cannot readily obtain from help pages or online advocate sites. Information on tax ID numbers, third party utilities, and record keeping are not topics common in help pages or even forums, and even then the information obtained by anonymous, random individuals isn't always accurate. I salute the book for filling in the gaps here.
In other areas though, I think that some of the advice is contradictory and even poor. I don't doubt that the information contained here came from real people based on real experiences, but being a powerseller by default does not constitute knowing the best way, or even a good way to do business.
I find it appalling that the 408 page book only spends some 16 pages discussing shipping. The fine art of shipping involves dynamics that make the whole rest of eBay seem simple by comparison. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of poor experiences on eBay are attributed to poor shipping, lack of knowledge when it comes to shipping, or misconceptions about shipping obligations or practices. The book takes one of the most complicated and important facets of eBaying and shoves it into a corner as to minimize focus on the subject. The section on shipping is so small as a matter of fact, that some readers might skip over what little information is here, forced to continue loss through undercharging, refunds, and negative feedback.
International trade is also marginalized down to 2, yes two, pages. There is no possible way that the plethora of knowledge needed to effectively trade internationally can be put to two pages. This serves to provide just enough to get someone in trouble.
The book further contradicts itself by saying that you should not pad your shipping charges, only to charge at cost, but then it advocates hiding the actual charges from your customers. The book also advocates such things as getting a Paypal debit card, which means that your funds are subject to seizure and you will not be collecting a significant amount of return on your investment as you would with say, a normal savings account or a certificate of deposit. Most experienced sellers do not keep a balance in Paypal. Furthermore, the book mentions that Cashier's Checks and Money Orders are risk free. This couldn't be further from the truth. The majority of online fraud is committed with wire transfers, checks, and especially, money orders.
While I think there is plenty of good advice here, the bad advice here should be apparent to anyone that has had their fair share of eBay selling experiences. It is for reasons such as these books, that there is no substitute for experience, and until you've gotten your feet wet, you won't know which parts are right or wrong.
High hopes weren't quite fulfilled.......2007-10-06
I had high hopes for this book. Great title, but it left me feeling a little disappointed. I learnt a few things, but it didn't represent any huge breakthroughs. My favorite part was chapter 4 which reviewed the pros and cons of the various listing tools and software.
Easy and informative.......2007-09-11
If you are interested in becoming a more effective seller and a knowledgeable buyer this is a very informative book. Its simple format lends itself to quick reference or more in-depth discussions, depending on your level of inquiry. I've read a lot of ebay books and this is a great one to purchase! Check out my ebay profile at jjjs04. Good luck!
Great tips of the trade!.......2007-01-18
Way to go!
This book gave me more information that I ever could have needed for starting up an Ebay business and I will continue to use it as a reference and guide for many of the troubling questions that arise in the cyber-business world.
The authors gave you more resources than you can imagine as well as detailing the benefits of becoming an Ebay Power Seller. It's amazing how much information they crammed between the pages and how amazingly detailed and forthcoming they were with the information. I was surprised to see the multiple lists for valuable online resources, and for those of us who learn best by seeing things in action-- they even have screen-shot pictures in the book with the corresponding URLs to the areas that can give you the most information.
As stated before, this book has a permanent place on my shelf as a reference guide to Ebay and beyond. Even if you're a current seller on Ebay, looking to upgrade your status to a Power Seller, give this book a shot. It could give you the extra boost you need for driving your business toward its goals and setting you on the right paths toward them.
Excellent and recommended tool for your Ebay business!

Only for the newbie.......2007-10-22
Just finished the book last night hoping to find ideas that I could implement in my eBay sales. No real new info here. More geared for the eBay novice. If you have any experience buying or selling on eBay you already know 99% of the info provided in this book.
I found it odd that the author claims to have sold a 4 year old pair of very worn sneakers on eBay for $21 in the beginning of the book and then talks about it again later in the book but the sale price was $26.
Also, the author refers you to links to third party paid services which he owns.
Read this book is one sitting..........2007-10-09
What really stood out for me was the writing style of the book. It was conversational with great stories that were fun and interesting.
Along with great tips, this book is not written in the typical "textbook" format. I read the entire book in less than a day and would definitely encourage anyone to read it!
Simply a GREAT Book!.......2007-10-09
Not only was this book easy to read - the content helped me go from a new eBay seller to an advanced one. I went from 19 feedback to 175 feedback in 60 days using the techniques I learned.
I'd highly encourage anyone interested in learning more about eBay to read this book!
Great eBay book.......2007-06-14
a Gotta Have book if you are planning on starting an eBay business in your home in 30 days. Great reference for the experienced eBayer.
Garbage.......2007-06-08
This book is one big fat advertisement for Ebay and for Adam Ginsberg's other ventures. It had very little useful information, and NO information that cannot be found easily on-line or on Ebay itself. It was a waste of my time reading it. It was utterly repetitive and took forever to actually get to any sort of information or advice. There is hardly enough information in this book to fill a 10 page pamphlet...let alone a 300 page book!!! I'm just happy I got it from the library and didn't end up wasting my money as well as my time.
I wish there was actually a book out there to help people who are not complete ebay beginners. The biggest ebay woe is finding sources for products, and there is little help in this book....OH, unless you want to go to the website Adam plugs and buy more stuff from him. SURE, then he'll help you out. HA, RIGHT!

A Solid Investment.......2007-10-17
I bought this book at the same time I bought two other books on on-line bookselling. I read this book right through, refer to it often, and recommend it to others. I never could finish the other books; they just never inspired me. In addition to the book, you get a CD which contains a series of spreadsheet workbooks with which you can do all the book-keeping for your new business. They alone are very strong value added and are worth the price of the book many times over.
But that's not all. The author has also created a private on-line bookseller's bulletin board which is accessible to those who buy his book. Over the past year that bulletin board has evolved into an important community of booksellers who share useful information with one another. My business has been transformed by the conversations conducted on that bulletin board. Just today another board member wrote the following testimonial:
"by far the best value (of an unsung variety) is when buying the book it comes with access to this fantastic board and the very kind participants who give generously of their knowledge and experience. I believe yours is the only book that offers this......"
If you consider your purchase price of this book an investment in your business, you will need a CPA to help you calculate your return.
pretty decent.......2007-10-01
this is the 1st book on the subject i've read, and there are some good points and tips...frankly, i think too much space was devoted to packing issues, and the pricing given for various supplies and services is certainly out of date, making one feel as if they're "late to the game", even though they just received the book...i'd suggest an update...
As real as it gets.......2007-09-21
Sometimes a book is more important than entertainment or mental stimulation. This is one of those books that can actually change your life. It is very readable and the information is dynamite.
Somewhat to my (delighted) surprize everything the author says panned out exactly as he said it would. Michael Mould is a no nonsense engineer who got into on-line bookselling years ago. He shares knowledge and experience in down to earth prose that helps the serious newbie make real money...for real.
Selling on Amazon is fun if you get a good grip on what the business is about before you launch. The book and CD provide that, but important details are explained too. The practical tips are abundant and useful. I made multiple times the cost of the book the first week selling on Amazon before I knew what hit me. This is truly a business you can start for little money. With hard work and a service attitude there is outstanding opportunity.
What A Time Saver !!!.......2007-04-07
Congradulations to Michael Mould for compiling an all you need to know volume to get you started in the business of online bookselling.Easy to read, complete and well organized. This book has saved me both time and money in the transition from a "Bricks & Mortar" book retailer operating 6 stores to an entirely online entity by avoiding many common pitfalls and consolidating necessary industry information. A "must read" for anyone in the same circumstances!
Excellent.......2007-04-06
The books previous high reviews were the reason I purchased this book instead of the others offered. And the book lived up to the reviews.
Written in a friendly neighbor sort of style it is chock full of what seems to be most useable information about an exciting opportunity for todays small business owner.
I would recommend this book over the others on the strength of the information given alone. And the spreadsheets on CD are an extra value worth the higher cost of this book.
Read it and learn.

Good for Motivation.......2006-12-20
This is a good book for motivation and an intro to network marketing if you know nothing at all. Zig is a great motivator. You'll need additional sources of information if you want to get in depth knowlege of how mlm works.
Zig Tells it Like it is!.......2006-11-23
This is the most comprehensive, informative book I have read on network marketing. Zig lays it out with complete honesty warning readers to stay clear of get rich quick schemes and faulty compensation plans. I learned that the network marketing company I left, while operating within Federal boundaries, is pushing the envelope with some of its sales tactics and covertly encouraging representatives to "front load". At the same time, I discovered that the company I am with now is operating with complete honesty and well within Federal guidelines. As for the naysayers, great speakers and trainers do not necessarily make great business owners. That doesn't mean they can't impart valuable information along to the student. Zig does what he does best. I do not hold his failed network marketing business against him. I'll take Zig's advice and think positive and surround myself with positive people.
Beginner's How-To Manual for any person new to network marketing.......2006-02-18
Zig explains network marketing in simple, easy to understand terms. In chapter 5, "Evaluating Network Marketing Companies", Zig discusses several questions a person should ask to whether they are pursing the right network marketing company.
Also, in chapter 10, "Knowing What to Do After You Sign Up" was very helpful for me in taking the next step.
A Book That Teaches One To Sell.......2005-11-19
Albeit the fact that Zig Ziglar's own MLM bit the dust, this book is great for those who would like to learn how to retail their MLM products.
Also this book does NOT cover much about the pitfalls one is bound to encounter in network marketing.
James Leong
Author of "MLM Persuasion Mastery:
How Master Networkers Change Beliefs
and Behavior"
Good basic MLM book by Zig.......2004-06-16
Zig Ziglar is America's motivator. As another reviewer has already alluded to, 75% of Fortune 500 companies utilize Zig's training systems. And Zig has trained over 1,000 network marketers. Zig was also successful himself as a network marketer and in direct sales. He speaks from experience.
More importantly, Zig is a great trainer. He knows how to bring out the best in everyone. And co author John P. Hayes has his own powerful credentials.
This book is particularly good for newbies in network marketing. Zig will show you how to pick your first company, what to look for, what to look out for and to what to avoid. He gives his usual motivational tips and it is updated to include the internet.
If you are new to network marketing, then I cannot recommend this book enough. Also recommend Mark Yarnels excellent book, Your First Year in Network Marketing.

Good info, but not for novices........2007-01-02
This book contains a great variety of information about using eBay, but it is not geared to the novice eBay user. The book addresses those wishing to use eBay as an antique/collectible sales business, and for those folks, it is a good book.
