From the Novice to the Expert!.......2006-09-01
This book dispels the myths in salesmanship. I would recommend it for anyone in sales - from the novice to the expert.

Sales Dogs - Sales Adventure Guide - Little Red Book of Selling.......2006-03-29
Sales Dogs is a real howl! (Sorry for the pun.) This book is intended to provide basic insight into the sales profession and smooth out a sales person style and/or provide them with a style other than acting like an overly aggressive dog. To the previous point it does a good job! I did find the book a bit idealistic at times compared to my recent sales experience (I've been in sales for the last 2 years)
Another book I just finished reading and highly recommend is the Sales Adventure Guide. (Just purchased 2 weeks ago on Amazon)
The Sales Adventure Guide fills in where Sales Dogs leaves off. It outlines how to sell effectively, identify a lucrative sales/marketing/business opportunity, stay employed, earn a ton of money, and negotiate a severance package once it's time leave and pursue your other goals (Has any one ever had a college class in severance negotiation??? Seems to me gray haired folks know ALL about it...but the young guns get left in the dark.) The Sales Adventure Guide book will teach you the ropes with unbiased information.
Another good reality based read is The Little Red Book of Selling.
Best of luck everybody. Sell! Sell! Sell!

Good introductory book... with an analogy taken too far........2006-01-08
"Sales Dogs" is a part of the "Rich Dad Advisors" series on sales and selling techniques. I was interested to read this book as Robert Kiyosaki encourages sales a whole lot.
"Sales Dogs" is a good introductory book. It breaks people up into different categories or "breeds" based on each person's strengths. I liked this approach because it's tailored towards each person strengths instead of taking the "1 size fits all" approach. I also really liked that it showed how you can be a successful salesperson without being a "pit bull".
"Sales Dogs" is typical "Rich Dad" material meaning it is written for the beginner. This makes the book easy to read but it isn't full of a lot of substance. Also, the dog analogy is just taken WAY too far! Here's an excerpt.... "Don't steal food off the table or counters or out of the refrigerator. Be honest and operate with integrity in all matters. Full disclosure in all cases." WTF??? Going from stealing food from the counter to integrity is quite a jump! I want to read about sales.... not try and interpret every dog analogy ever made!!!
If you are new to sales, then this book is probably for you. If you have any experience whatsoever, you probably won't find much use for this book. 3 out of 5 stars.
Sorry Robert.......2005-12-28
I truly enjoyed all of the other Rich Dad Poor Dad books, but this one is awful. I have recommended all of the books to a number of my close friends and family. I will have to warn them all of this book. You know, you can knock them all out of the park though. I still will recommend that everyone should read Rich Dad Poor Dad at the very least.
I'm Going To Be Brief.......2005-09-26
Kiosaki has a talent for story telling many of his advisors don't. This book from the advisor series is a big exception. But there's another reason I really liked it. I don't enjoy the idea of aggressive cold calls to someone who doesn't want to talk to me. This book shows how you can make this type of attititude an asset. In other words it explains why you don't always need to be aggresive to close the deal.

Customer Reviews:
Not a Good Children's Book!!!.......2007-09-25
I thought this book would be great for my 4 year old....I was wrong. Needless to say, I thought it would be funny until the dog is used in the bank robbery, THEN, his "owner" lights the balloon on fire and blows him up (he lives of course). The dog makes his way home with the money and the dad says "we're rich" What are we teaching our kids???? To light farts on fire and rob banks? It says nothing about the money being returned after "dad's" comment nor what happened to the actual robber. This book could have been MUCH better! I find it morally wrong.
Love Walter.......2007-08-29
Walter books are ideal for all children. My grandson is 4 and he loves these books and reads them over and over again.
A Morally Deficient Book .......2007-08-16
This book is so bad that for the first time in my life I had to physically destroy and throw the book away. I couldn't even bring myself to throw it in the trash whole and risk someone finding it and reading it to their children. What a morally deficient author to write a book where the father, sells his children beloved pet because he hates the dog and then lies about it to the kids telling them he is just wandering around and will be back soon. And at the end fakes love for the dog for the press and cameras!
I am also shocked that there are parents out there that actually heap kudos on this kind of junk (just because their 4 year old liked it and laughed at it!) and can't see that they are teaching their kids to be immoral!
Shame.
Flatulance always a winner with boys!.......2007-07-19
I have a 5 yo and 15 yo- both boys- and the younger one fell in love with the Walter books. I even asked the 15 yo to read to him in the car and he grudgingly took the book, without even reading the title and by the 3rd page- even he couldn't help himself! Walter books are amusing, but they also teach a valuable lesson about unconditional love and accepting others even- even if they have "flatulance issues"!
Funny Story for a Kid's Favorite Topic.......2007-03-13
This series of books is the perfect choice for little ones who have become easily entertained by everything "farting"..it seems to strike a cord with my 3-year old, who finds farting and the sound of the word endlessly funny!!

The very basic basics, and a little misinformation........2005-08-30
If you know anything about dog behavior and interaction, this stuff is probably a boring review for you. The book was clearly intended for people who do not know how dog pack behavior works, what a dog rolling over means, how to tell when dogs are dominant and when submissive, etc. There's a little bit of everything in this book, which would seem convenient, but it's not nearly in depth enough for a lot it touches on, especially breeding.
My biggest beef with this book was a chart about halfway through which list major breeds and rates them as "low, medium, or high" in three areas: activity/excitability, aggression, and trainability. These are flawed categories. Excitability and activity are not the same thing. A pomeranian is easily excitable but needs nowhere near the exercize that a whippet, a very calm and docile dog, does. It lists many dogs as "low" in this category, such as the dalmation, doberman, Hungarian vizsla, and australian shepherd. Anyone who gets these dogs thinking they have low activity levels is bound for an unpleasant discovery. The aggression category is vague and unnecessary. One, we do not know if this means the dog is a good watchdog, receptive to guard dog training, or if is likely to attack the owner and her friends! Second, it reinforces stereotypes that certain breeds are somehow more naturally "vicious" than others. It should have NEVER been made a category. "Watchdog ability" is a much better choice. I dare not think someone would come away from this book thinking Great Danes are highly aggressive.
This is not the book to get to find what breed you want. It is not the book to get if you want to go in depth into dog nutrition or training. It is a book for someone completely clueless to thumb through, then put back on the library shelf.
NOT for younger children.......2003-01-29
Not for younger children, as it gratuitously displays and describes dogs in the act of mating. This adds nothing to the book, as small children love dogs, but would be less likely to be dog breeders at the ages of, for example 6 or 7, and as such do not need to view such explicit depictions. Also, adults can pretty much already identify those acts (especially) in fellow mammals when they see them, and so this adds nothing for them, either.
i liked it but my favorite is legacy of the dog.......2001-09-26
i have many dog books because i study them and read them whenever i have time. the reason that i like this book is because it is very informing it tells what to feed your dogs it shows the ways to groom and so on i recomend this book to dog lovers and people who just like the pictures ether way is good.
Complete Illustrated Guide to Dog Care.......2000-04-11
This book is very informative. I just adopted a Miniature Schnauzer puppy, and he is my first dog. I didn't really know the in's and out's of dog training and behavior. When I read this book, I learned a lot. It is not only very comprehensive, but interesting. It also has a lot of pictures of dogs exhibiting certain behaviors, this makes it easy to follow along. I highly recommend this book to all dog lovers and owners.
Great Photographs.......2000-03-30
This book is a great source of information for new dog and puppy owners. It is very readable, very entertaining, and very informative. I bought it for the photographs, however. The photos are so expressive, and there is a great variety of breeds shown

This book is fantasic!!.......2003-04-13
This book has a guide to dog breeds, how to care for your dog, and other helpful things. It has full color photos that are helpful to identify certain breeds. Although I don't own a dog this book comes in handy a lot. There are other books in this series if you are interested, but if you don't own one in this series I recommend you get one.
Good introduction to breeds and caring for your dog.......2002-04-13
Part One gives you infromation on how dogs evolved, understanding canine behaviour, healthcare, feeding, grooming and exercising your dog.
Part Two gives you information about 90+ different breeds. The breed guide give you a size comparison (comparing the dog's height with that of and "average adult and child"). My question to the author is what is "average". The breed guide also gives you the breed's temperament, excerise required, watchdog capability, grooming/trimming, preferred enviroments for the breed, and the size and weight of the breed. It also gies you a good representative of the breed, and the breed's (AKC) name.
Some breed descriptors are erroneous such as the Jack Russell Terrier would be "ideal for apartment living", and the Pug "doesn't shed much". I advise anyone to go to a JRT rescue group and ask why this breed is not suitable for apartment living if they don't understand why. The JRT is simply has too much energy, and needs to romp in a big fenced backyard. Also, go into a pug owner's house and you will probably see little fawn and/or black hairs all over thier house. Pugs, like Dalmatians, are notorius shedders.
Overall, I would have to give this book three stars. It is a good and colourful introduction to different breeds, but has some simple errors about breeds in it. To supplement this book I would purchase the "Encyclopedia of the Dog" by Bruce Fogle and "Your Purebred Puppy : A Buyer's Guide" by Michele Welton.
EXCELLENT book!.......2001-11-18
I bought this book (...) and it's been such a help! It tells you about the breeds history, their temperament, the exercise needed, grooming requirements, and much more. Color photos for each breed as well.
I definatly recommend this book. I can't even count the number of times it's come in handy.
An excellent resource.......2000-07-30
We use this book at home to "look up" dogs we do not recognize, and to look up dogs that people talk about that we may be unfamiliar with. There are lots of pictures so even the kids use it. It has a lot of pertinent information about each breed, including origin, size, weight, and recommendations for pet owners. I will probably order another....just in case the first one walks off.

Natural Remedies for Dogs and Cats.......2002-11-29
The vast majority of people today believe that commercial pet food provides a safe and healthy diet for their dogs and cats. Veterinarians, who generally receive minimal instruction in nutrition, also recommend feeding only commercial animal food. CJ Puotinen disputes this advice in her latest book, Natural Remedies for Dogs and Cats.
She's interviewed dozens of holistic pet care experts and studied all the available research on pet care. Time and time again, the evidence points to commercial pet foods as the source of chronic health problems in animals.
If left to themselves, dogs and cats eat raw prey that they have caught. This gives them a variety of food and nutrients. Even if prepared foods could imitate the variety, which they don't, the processing they undergo destroys the nutrients. Additionally, commercial pet foods contain a host of unhealthy products.
Puotinen describes the best diets for dogs and cats, and then explains how to achieve that. She even includes some recipes.
The second section of the book is devoted to natural remedies for ailing animals. She describes the basic nutrients needed by all animals--our pets need vitamins and minerals, just as we do--and how to best include them in a healthy diet. She then explains how various herbs are used in achieving and maintaining pet health. This section also includes recipes, such as one for a natural flea powder.
Puotinen provides an extensive resource section, including e-mail and web addresses.
She says her purpose "is to define, explain, and demonstrate herbal and nutritional techniques that many pet owners have used with good results," adding that "an informed owner is a pet's best medical insurance." Readers will find that she has provided all the information and resources they need in Natural Remedies for Dogs and Cats to help them help their pets have long and healthy lives.
Natural Remedies for Dogs and Cats.......2000-08-11
A 5 star book for sure! CJ Puotinen has provided yet another wonderfully supportive and educational reference book along the same lines as her indispensable "The Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care". For those of us who want to keep our pets healthy the natural way, this book offers everything from feeding the best diet for our mainly carnivore friends--a raw food diet--to making your own natural flea repellents with oodles of terrific informaiton inbetween. I have saved so much money by making my own tinctures, etc. but more important, have healthier dogs because of what I learned and practiced from these books. That means hardly any visits to a veterinarian! The added bonus is the references in the back of the book. Everything at your fingertips. You can't beat the wealth of information for the price of this book!
This book was a lifesaver.......2000-04-15
I have a copy of this book, and of CJ's Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care. I raise all my dogs (I raise Jack Russells) on an all natural diet. The recipes that I found in these books helped save the lives of a litter of pups that I had who lost thier mother at 3 weeks. At that age, conventional dogfood would not have saved them. And what about the preservatives that are in commercial dog food? I cannot understand how some one can claim to love thier pets, while all the while feeding them food thats full of poison? This book has made me more aware of what the average consumer does not know, and I encourage every one to take the time to do research on BHA and BHT. Those are ingredients that you will find on most of your pet foods as a preservative. Thank You CJ for writing this book, and my pups sure do thank you too. If you start an animal on an all natural diet in the beginning, or a little at a time, it will go more smoothly then trying to change them cold turkey.
My dogs didn't really like the whole idea!.......2000-03-28
I didn't find this book so useful. My dogs refuse any otherkind of food except their freshly cooked chicken i prepare for themevery night. Although I tried to follow some advises from this book, I saw that they prefer to starve than eat anything else.I thought they would die since they didn't eat anything for 2-3 days and gave up! The author insists that it's a matter of time that your dog will get used to the new diet, but I see that it is not. I think it has to do with the personality of each and every dog, and that's the reason I will never get a book like this. They don't change their nutricion no matter what I do, so I prefer buying books which deal with their psychological world and ways to communicate with them, instead of books which actually waste my time reading them.

Dancing with Dogs.......2007-01-19
Mary Ray, one of the best freestyle dancers in the world, has done an excellent job in writing this book for all those who want to learn more about doing Freestyle with their dogs. It gives step by step instructions using pictures and diagrams on how to teach certain moves making them very easy to follow. It gives ideas of what kind of moves look good in a dance including starting and finishing poses. There is a section on how to plan a dance out on paper, including music, props and costumes. It concludes with an entire section of Mary Rays dance routines with an explanation of the moves, costumes and music. This book is a "must have" to both the novice and the more advanced freestyle enthusiast.
Inviting pictures, easy to read text, great value for the price.......2006-10-19
I'm giving the book a paws up. The layout is very inviting -
spacious with lots of pictures and easy to read. From cover to cover,
the book probably takes about 2 hours to read. To perform all the
training and routines in the book would take a lifetime.
Some of the information is very general - clicker training on a single
page. However, the general information does includes the most
important aspects of training concepts.
Much of the strength of the book is in the Dance Routines shown in the
later chapters. She's got routines for Star and Stripes, Singing in
the Rain, Puppet on a String, and others. She outlines the steps and
tricks in the routine and supplements the written description with
pictures. She suggests music to use with the routines, films to watch,
and tips for improving your performance.
The book would be a fabulous resource for a 4H club, anyone trying to
put together his or her first routine, or an expercienced freestyler
looking for some new ideas. A book you might refer to over and over, picking up something new each time. At the price you can't beat it.

Mozart's last opera, the simultaneously comic and serious fairy tale The Magic Flute (Die Zauberfloete), is as problematic as anything in the medium. Some deplore it for its perceived sexism and racism; some deplore it for its arguably goofy plot. "Depending on your perspective," writes David Foil in his essay in this book, it "is either the silliest opera ever written or a work of profound insight that happens to be dressed in the trappings of a cartoon." That it is Mozart's sublime music that ennobles something meant to be merely a short-lived popular entertainment is not in question.
This volume, issued by Black Dog Opera Library, puts together Foil's essay, lots of pictures, a complete libretto (with running commentary) in English and German, and a classic recording on two compact discs in one comfortably priced hardcover package. It is a fine introduction to what remains a great opera, goofy plot or no. (And Bellini's plots aren't even goofier?) It is worth buying just for the now out-of-print EMI/Angel 1972 (remastered in 1987) recording, contained on two very long-playing CDs, found inside the front and back covers of the book. The dialogue portions work better in this version than in most recordings. Anneliese Rothenberger is an appealing Pamina, and Walter Berry is a delightful Papageno. Edda Moser nails the difficult music of the Queen of Night, while Kurt Moll is our day's definitive Sarastro. Wolfgang Sawallisch, brisk and never lugubrious, conducts his soloists and the Bavarian State Opera Chorus and Orchestra with total certainty.
Book Description
The Black Dog Music Library presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute featuring Peter Schreier, Walter Berry, Anneliese Nothenberger, and Kurt Moll and the Chorus of the Bavarian State Opera, Munich, under the direction of Wolfgang Sawallish. An Angel/EMI compact disc set, accompanied by the complete libretto with unabridged English translations and minute-by-minute commentary and information on the composer, the music, and the performance.
Customer Reviews:
Great introduction for kids!.......2007-03-08
This is a great opera introduction for kids. The story is really easy to follow and the CD is a great addition. I highly recommend this for anyone.
Mozart's The Magic Flute.......2007-02-14
This was a wonderful story well written for a young audience. We bought it for our six-year-old son who began studying violin a year ago, and this was his one-year anniversary present. Mozart's Eine Kleine Nacht Musik was his inspiration to learn the violin, and he has since taken interest in other Mozart music. The illustrations are also very beautiful.
The Definitive Magic Flute.......2005-04-12
I'm usually dismissive of most Die Zauberflotes because I find the overall quality of the singers and recording lacking. Then I came upon this recording...I have to say that it is simply the most amazing Die Zauberflote I've ever heard! The orchestrations to the singers to the conductor himself...everything is mind-blowing! I'm not a Mozart person, but if I really like a recording of his I will buy it. This is an excellent way to introduce yourself to the Flute, especially since there is such a wonderful introduction accompanying this extremely famous opera. And the Queen of the Night-Edda Moser!!! Amazing! Simply amazing! No other Queen has conveyed that much drama into her singing. This is the Flute. I would suggest Marriner's version if I hadn't seen this one, but then here is a Flute with all the greats in it! Get it now!
A great way to learn about opera, suitable for young or old........2004-04-21
I received this as a gift from a mislead but well-meaning relative. Needless to say, I have never been a fan of opera. However, I was surprised that I was actually able to enjoy this book and accompanying CD. The book begins with a brief biography of Mozart, and then offers a prose overview of the story (extremely helpful for understanding!). The second half of the book contains the libretto, or text, of the opera. The original German forms one column on the left-hand side of each page, and the English translation is printed on the right. This way one can follow along with the story while listening to the music, even if you don't know a word of German. Throughout the entire book there are pictures from different stage performances of The Magic Flute. The musical recording is of high quality, contained on two disks that fit into pockets on the inside front and back cover of the book.
This would be a wonderful book for anyone interested in learning about opera, young or old. However, I must disagree with the reviewer who said this was geared toward children between three and seven. A 3-year-old would never be able to read the text, and a 7-year-old, unless very advanced, would no doubt struggle with it. The book is better suited for slightly older children all the way up through adults of any age. While I'm still not a fan of opera, I did gain some appreciation for it from this book and CD. I'm sure the only way to truly experience an opera is to see it performed live (just listening to a recording removes the entire visual element), but I would nevertheless recommend this product.
Wonderful story-telling.......2004-03-15
P. Craig Russell's drawing style seems especially apt for stories of enchanted lands and beings. His lines are light and airy, and he sets a mood nicely with color. In other words, he is ideally suited to illustrate this story.
He does a delightful job of it, too. He amplifies all of the characters theatrically beyond the believable, and has one small advantage over true opera - he is never at the mercy of the set designers, costumers, or other effects.
I am very glad to see this classic of western culture (and the others coming soon) made available in this format. I confess, I have not fully acquired the taste for opera, or the ability to derive the story from the way it is sung. I do, however, want to know at least a bit of the story, and this is a very digestible form. Russell's drawing makes it more than digestible, it's a real confection. I also appreciate the fact that Russell has adapted the story, and not created a new one from fragments of the classic.
Opera buffs - I hope you can accept this for what it is. One way to look at this is opera appreciation on training wheels, a painless entry into part of the operatic art. It's also a way to spread some knowledge of this classic across a generation that might not have been exposed to the story otherwise - certainly a good thing.
If nothing else, it's a well-drawn comic by a very capable artist. It's that "else" that makes this comic stand out. I'm looking forward to the next Russell operas.
(This reviews the book without the CD.)

A critical examination of Grass's work offers overwhelming evidence that Cat and Mouse and Dog Years are part of a unified structure begun by The Tin Drum and that they continue to explore the same key figures, themes, and symbols. A Helen and Kurt Wolff Book.

The Tin Drum.......2004-11-06
I can't say that it's the kind of book I read without putting down. It took me four years to read it in German, it was a project from which I learned more German, to like Gunther Grass and to look at midgets or short people in a different way. For me they now stand for Oskar, the main character of the book a boy who shatters windows and glasses of his teacher, makes the Nazis dance to the wrong tune, loves nurses and much more. It's a wonderful book. I recently read a list of the 50 favorite books of Germans. This one was number 48 for them. It's close to number one for me. It's a wonderful book -whether it takes you a week or 4 years.
Well worth reading.......2003-10-15
I have read the book in the original language (German)and I couldn't put it down until I was done.
I dont know if it is just as good translated, but I love his choice of words and the pictures he is painting with them.
I mainly read the book, because I am interested in the history of that time, place and the people.
If that is what you are looking for, this book is a must.
A great set, great value.......2000-08-23
If you can't check these out at a library (or can't just have these great works for just a few weeks) this trilogy is for you. Tin Drum, in my opinion, is the best of the set, expressing oppression and pain with the best of Grass's stark realism and sardonic wit.
