•Eliminate risk, and guarantee that your mortgage payments are always covered.
•Use ""cash-out"" from refinancing to purchase more properties.
•Decide whether to buy and hold or ""pyramid"" to a large apartment complex.
•Use inflation, tax laws, and rehab to build a massive retirement nest-egg.

Decent investment book, but overly optimistic.......2007-08-18
The basic investing information in this book is solid, the problem is that the plan for gaining wealth is overly optimistic for many areas of the United States. Larry bases his wealth building plan on very fortunate appreciation that he experienced on his first investment property. Then as the plan is taught you refinance that first property after one year and use that money to buy another property. In Orlando, FL (where Larry bought his property) around that time the appreciation was 25%, but what about the least appreciating cities like the one where I live at 3%? Then the wealth building plan that Larry talks about goes out the window.
I thought the best part of the book was the info on closing, ideas that I have not reading anywhere else. Word of advice, skip over the property management chapter, the weakest chapter in the book where Larry advocates screening tenant by using your "gut". That is a recipe for disaster.
WOW!!!!!!!!!.......2007-08-16
Strongly recommend reading this book regardless of your level of expertise. I've learned, been motivated, and have a better insight of investing in income properties. Very simple to read and understand.
Great Book.......2007-08-08
The author is very knowledgeable, very honest with the subject because he actually practices what he preaches.
Definitely Worth Buying.......2007-08-06
I brought about 3 books on real estate investing. I, too, have a three apartment building and a small investment property. When I look back a few years ago, I wish I actually have read this book to evaluate the potential purchases. I did okay in the end, but having to know the concepts and the GRM (Gross Rent Multiples) was the simplest thing to understand and only consistent way for me to compare investments properties. Other books tell you to compare the recent comparable sales, the replacement cost, building cost, etc to come up with the right figures. Frankly, those 'tools' mentioned in other books were not as useful as the GRM method mentioned in this book. The author also explains how the GRM changes, depending on the neighborhood and the locations. So, having that knowledge, I am able to compare properties very quickly to weed out the ones that I do not want. Once I have narrowed down the list of potential properties, then I can use the other methods to do the detailed analysis. I feel better now that I can now compare apples to apples. The sections toward the end were skimpy, but the overall value of this book is great. I recommend to a novice investor, as well as someone like myself who has been in it for about 6 years and still have a lot to learn.
Basic Read.......2007-08-02
Great book for beginner investors who want the basics of multi-unit investing. There are a lot of strategies that can be learned from his experiences.
This book would go great with another book I read called Bubble Proof: Real Estate Strategies that Work in any Market by Tonja Demoff. She has such a great attitude and spin on real estate investing.

Praise for Rocking Wall Street

Very Negative Tone.......2007-05-12
Being an investor I thought that this would be worth the read - especially after seeing the names recommending it. It didn't really offer anything new. The big secret insight to give your life back is no real secret (stop investing and basically put your money in the bank when you have enough money to live on confortably - don't keep 'playing the game' forever) and it certainly didn't shake up the way I invest and don't worry, Wall Street won't be rocked either. Overall it carried a very negative tone in my opinion.
I ended up flicking through the last pages and then just put it in the bin. There are better investment reads out there.
This book is an infomercial for fund of funds.......2007-05-10
I was expecting a discussion of diversification such as option strategies, long-short poistions and other hedging techniques backed up by well explained math. This book is none of that. In fact I can save you all the price of the book with this summary: big losses are bad, the market has big down periods, hedging is good but you give up some upside to reduce your down exposure, Warren Buffet is not just a buy and hold investor, he moves in and out but you are probably not as good as he is, therefore invest in a fund of hedge funds and you will get a more consistent return without the large downside. BRILLANT!!! Oh by the way, in case you decide to take his advice and invest in a fund of funds, the author happens to run one. His other points include: day trading is a fools game, if you are rich you should enjoy life and not waste time on investing your own money etc. There is absolutely nothing new in this book. There is however a good due diligence out line for investing in hedge funds in the appendix.
If you are a serious investor that is looking for real insight into diversification theory and ways to do it, THIS IS NOT YOUR BOOK
Helpful financial philosophy, but not enough practical detail about hedging techniques.......2007-04-19
Hi Everyone,
I really enjoyed reading about Mr. Marks investing philosophy. In particular, I liked how he defines the "end game", his attention to risk management, and how he stresses the importance of managing time wisely.
Unfortunately, I thought that information regarding the practical details about hedging techniques was sorely lacking. I think the hedging techniques of individual hedge funds and their effects on portfolio performance should have been explored. For instance, although he mentions Dr. John Hussman in a reference to economists, Mr. Marks fails to mention that Dr. Hussman manages SEC accredited hedged equity and bond mutual funds that are accessible to even average net worth investors (see http://www.hussmanfunds.com/ for more info). I would have very much liked to see a statistical analysis of how funds like Dr. Hussman's might allow hedging of the standard (and in my opinion risky) portfolio that Mr. Marks recommends for average net worth investors.
R. Harazin
P.S. Disclosure -- I own shares of Dr. Hussman's hedged equity fund (HSGFX).
very fragmented review of investment priciples.......2007-04-17
Since there are many positive reviews this book must appeal to some people, to me it seems like a very fragmented approach and re-hash of a lot of well known investment fundamentals. It also obviously is touting hedge funds. It is also talking up fund of funds, which in the case of hedge funds puts the fees into pretty astronomical territory. I generally enjoy John Mauldin and his column, but for Mauldin to recommend this book is somewhat suspect. Serious investors can find better books than this.
How to lead your life and invest you money.......2007-03-22
A great booooook. I think it makes people realise that time is a limited asset. If you accept this and do not want to spend your limited time on handling dollars and conts then it give you a great alternatives

Pure Gibberish.......2007-09-25
This book has almost no substance and is completely based in fantasy. It reads like a sermon at a really bad church for the A.D.D. The author wants to sell you his products to make himself a millionaire. I highly question the positive reviews written here because they basically quote the book word for word. I suspect they are planted to get you to buy the book.
Unrealistic on Both Sides!.......2007-07-02
I bought this book in a thrift store. I've read Robert G. Allen before, but I lack the energy to make money in real estate. I'm still searching for an easier way to make money. I worked in newspaper advertising eight years in Dallas, and then nine years in public welfare here. I find his books quite unrealistic. I'm not an expert, but from my newspaper days, I recall that the no down deals are there occasionally, but the properties may need a lot of repair. Cities require landlords to make those costly repairs, that they can't make a homeowner living in the property make. Also, the real estate market comes and goes. The fictional story of Michelle is beyond ridiculous. I suppose wealthy grandparents could sue and get custody, but I would think Child Protective Services would make home studies and the courts would appoint the children a lawyer. Yes, CPS does dumb things too, but this little grandparents get custody easilty story just doesn't wash with me. I've read lots of custody papers in welfare. Also, for a woman sign a contract that she'll never see her kids again if she doesn't make a million in 90 days is absurd. I'm sure that would never hold up in court. The "Michelle" story is a cheap shot designed to make the system more attractive. Of course, Allen is in the business of selling his stories, etc. After reading all the reviews, I have concluded that Robert G. Allen is probably like Amway, which has been proven to make more money from its motivational tapes, books, and seminars than its products.
The One Minute Millionaire: The Enlightened Way to Wealth.......2007-05-15
I would not endorse this book.
Outstanding.......2007-04-24
Mark Hansen and Robert Allen, do a fablous job explaining what it takes to become a one minute millionaire. I highly recommend this book to all who are interested in getting out of the rat race for good!
An excellent book!!!.......2007-04-11
The most powerfull book i've ever read. It gives you the tools and the guidance for a wealthy life. Great book !!!

The best financial advice you will ever receive.......2007-08-23
I read this book 8 months ago. It was such an eye-opener that I went on to read ten other investment books over the ensuing 6 months. Although several other books cover much of the same material, Swedroe's book is the one that I have read and re-read several times. It really can stand alone as your "only guide to investing". Two of my relatives have read it now, as well. I now manage all of my investments myself, with confidence. Short term market drops don't worry me at all. I truly believe that anyone who reads this book and later reads Swedroe's bond book(by about the same title) will be well-armed to manage their investments without the expense of a broker or advisor.
Great Investment Book!.......2007-05-22
I've just finished reading your book and wanted to thank you so much for sharing this straight forward method of investing with all of us!! I've been investing for many years. I've tried timing the market, newsletter services, timing services; just about ever known method to not make money. After reading your book, it really seemed to 'click' for me.
I've been suggesting this book to many of my friends. They seem to want exactly what your strategy provides, reasonable returns with reduced risk. I wish I had found this book many years ago.
A tool box that does the job..............2007-05-09
This was an excellent book that covered all the necessary fundamentals without going into the excessive esoterica of the field that I, as a simple investor, did not need.
It also provided useful formulas and guidance for fixed security investments based on the different scenarios that different investors might have.
The book has definite views on total bond market funds as well as mortgage backed securities that you are not likely to find elsewhere and that every investor must necessarily know before investing.
The title really says it all.
Excellent book.......2007-05-09
One of 4 o5 of the best investment books I've read. Every investor should read this book.
Winning strategy? Yes!.......2007-05-08
Late summer of 2005 I decided to turn our investments over to a financial advisor. My wife questioned whether it made sense to give such a huge cut (2% of market value each year) to a brokerage firm. That weekend we went to Barnes and Noble and I bought this book. The rest is history. I am in index funds and short term bonds. I am 60/40 domestic/foreign. My return has been great but the most important thing is that I sleep well at night. I rebalance when the numbers get out of whack not because of some hunch or fear. I sold everything that I owned to get into this strategy and paid a large amount of tax but it has all been worthwhile. This strategy forces you to take profits when stocks rise and buy stocks when prices go down. It makes sense and it works.
Book Description
The first American book on personal finance, "The Way to Wealth" by Benjamin Franklin is still the best and wisest money book ever written. Originally published in 1758 as the preface to "Poor Richard's Almanack," this little gem has been through innumerable printings and sold millions of copies to those in search of smart but entertaining advice about hard work, earning and saving money and debt.
As the 21st Century charges along and the current economic climate continues to send out mixed messages, Franklin's simple but wise commentary on the value of industry and frugality resonates as much for us today as it did for listeners nearly 350 years ago. Here is a sample:
- "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise."
- "If you would be wealthy, think of saving, as well as of getting."
- "If you would have your business done, go; if not, send."
- "Think what you do when you run into debt; you give to another power over your liberty."
- "Creditors have better memories than debtors."
Although older than the United States itself, "The Way to Wealth" is still very popular. It is handed out by major companies and financial institutions to friends, clients, and customers and is the January, 2004 selection of "The Washington Post's" the Color of Money Book Club. As Michelle Singletary, director of the Club wrote in a column about The book, "At just 30 pages, this pocket-size book takes less than an hour to read but will give you a lifetime of financial wisdom--that is if you're wise enough to follow the advice."

Pretty Interesting Read.......2007-08-23
I can't say that there's any eye-opening information in here, but it's pretty neat just to take in the writing style. The best lesson I got out of this book is even when you're spending $5, think of where else that $5 can help you out. Which one is more important?
pain over pleasure.......2007-05-16
Franklins pithy, short but sweet maxims are timeless. Truly if followed will lead to wealth. Nix laziness, find your niche, work hard, avoid overspending, learn continuously are all basic but sound principles that need to be remembered. after all, "the used key is always bright"
Hats off to Mr Franklin.......2007-03-21
A short but excellent read, Benjamin Franklin writes a lucid account of what is needed to become a wealthy person, not just in a monetary sense but in a more holistic context. Well worth a read and further study.
A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned.......2007-01-22
Therefore, you should earn a few pennies and not buy this volume. I say that for the following reasons:
1: The book's size (30 pages) is misleading. Not only is this a pocket sized book, but the words are pretty big. As a result, if this book were written on normal sized pages in a normal sized font, it would likely be less than five pages. I breezed through it in less than 1/2 an hour.
2: As this essay is part of a larger work (Poor Richard's Almanack), paying $9 for the first few pages when you can buy the whole thing for a few dollars more makes no sense.
3: This work is in the public domain. In fact, I ran a search on "way to wealth benjamin franklin" and found the entire text online in a number of places, including Wikipedia and the Department of State's website. And considering the brevity of the work, if this is all you want, you can just print it.
I only recommend buying this book if and only if you have read the essay and you have decided you would like to have this essay on your bookshelf, something I've done with other books.
This Audio Sucks.......2006-12-18
I purchased this several months ago and just got around to listening to it. It is a computer generate voice reading the book! You can't hardly understand it. Save your money. Read the book. This audio is crap!!!

Recommended!.......2007-05-08
To address some of the questions that the reader might have:
* This course is very easy to digest but will take about 4-5 hours of your time.
* It covers a great deal of many different subjects related to concession sales.
* Previous experience in this field is not necessary.
* The Dvd's give several good menu suggestions next to full instructions on preparing a variety of barbecue meals.
* Mr. Robertson shows a lot of experience and enthusiasm in his field.
* There is an Index of links as well as recipes towards the end of the book.
The author did an excellent job at describing ways how to get started in your own concession vending business. I have been operating a ball game concessions stand for over 8 years, next to my day job as a teacher and I have become quite experienced in this field. I know that there is a lot of money to be made with food sales. At sports events, the food and drinks are an essential part of the whole fun, no matter how pricey they are. The only drawbacks are the ever increasing concession fees to set up at the games. This is yet another reason, why owning a business as an independent operator makes a lot of sense.
After reviewing this course, I was able to learn a great deal more about concession sales. If you are thinking about starting out in this field, I can highly recommend it!
fun and informative!.......2007-02-16
I originally bought this for my husband and ended up watching the DVD's with him. They are really packed with a lot of information and with valuable tips from a real professional.
Now BBQ became our first choice of foods to sell. The recipes in the film are truly wonderful and turned out well the first time we tried them. We also will focus on Tex-Mex foods that are very popular in our area.
The book gave us lots of good ideas that we will use in our own business. The author is right: cooking for fun is one thing- cooking for money is another! It was good to watch someone else do it first. Probably saved me from making lots of mistakes!
Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase and I am glad I found it!
An excellent purchase.......2006-12-13
This was by far the best purchase I made on amazon this year. I enjoyed watching the DVD's that covered far more than I expected.
I have always wanted to have my own restaurant, but never have been able to get it together. The trailer food business is more my thing, as I can leave it parked in my backyard when I don't want to sell. I had trouble finding information on the subject of mobile food vending and I wish I would have seen this course earlier. It has taught me a lot about this business. The film showed interesting background info and a lot of food being prepared for resale. The ribs looked delicious and I now always cook my ribs this way. Watching the procedure is like being there and much better than just reading about it...
The book is easy to follow and covers pretty much everything I needed to know. I am not much of a chef, but people were all impressed by the food I prepared the way it is described in the book. I fed over 300 people in one day by myself at our block party and made good money doing it. This guide was very helpful to me in my rural area. It also made me feel like I can actually put a business like this together in my spare time.

Great book for a "bonds 101".......2007-06-08
Great first book to learn about bonds and similar financial products... what they should and should not be used for, what to buy for what, and what not to buy, and of course, the soundest advice that you should get a professional to review your individual situation to find the best strategy to preserve capital.
A classic book on investing.......2007-02-17
Like all of Larry's books this one is a gem. You will never find an author as skilled in explaining difficult subjects as Larry can. One would think he was simply a skilled language mechanic. Not so Larry is a skill investor too. He has written several book on investing and I have and read them all. For many years I was a bond investor and thought I had mastered the subject, Wrong I learned much from his book and you will too. Larry believes in passive investing tecgniques. Books on the subject are a little too complex for the average investor. I can offer a solution to this problem. I want to recommend for you a book titled How to Make Money in the Stock Market-Buy 2,500 different stocks for $1000 - Pay no Commission This book is a must for those wanting to find out about indexing (passive investing) and why it is the superior method for the small investor (and big one too). This book is an outstanding guide to personal investing. It will be useful to all investors from novices to highly the highly experienced. This book prepares the reader to approach investing from the standpoint of the underlying science. It is the antithesis of a 'get rich quick scheme'.
All aspects of Modern Portfolio Theory and passive (index) investing are explained in a through and easily understood manner. The aspect I like most is that as well as a solid theoretical foundation the book is very practical and shows the reader how to create (and more importantly) and manage over time a successful portfolio. This is a great book- for the beginning investor, it's a great place to start and for the experienced investor there are many valuable suggestions.
It's a shame to think of how much money investors have lost "investing" in the stock market over the years. I wish I had read this little book years ago. The chapter on automatic investing recommends a number of portfolios that follow modern portfolio theory and adjust risk as you age without any effort on the part of the reader at all. Had this book been written years ago and had I followed its directions I would be rich today of that I am certain. Nevertheless I will pursue one of the portfolios recommended and stick to my chosen asset plan.
How to Make Money in the Stock Market-Buy 2,500 Different Stocks-Pay no Commission
A Must Read For Every Investor.......2006-11-15
Larry Swedroe and Joseph Hempen explain the misunderstood asset class of fixed income most clearly and advise the implementation of bonds into your investment portfolio in accordance with your objectives. Clearly and concisely, the authors tell you the pros and cons of various security types and familiarize you with "bondspeak", the insider language of the bond market. Read and digest this book. Then you'll know what to do with fixed income securities in your investment strategy just like a pro.

Good book for basic fixed income investing.......2006-11-13
This is a must read for anyone who wants to know about bonds and fixed income investing in general.
I wish I had read this earlier but that happens with most of us. I am glad that I ordered this now and have almost finished it reading.
Too many words.......2006-11-10
There is some useful information for the average investment duffer. But the information to word ratio is way too small. Swedroe is a smart guy. His prolixity problem doesn't even approach that of David Swenson---a small consolation for the reader. Next time he should hire a ghost writer.

Great Guide to Starting your own Company........2007-03-16
It should come as no surprise that you are never going to get rich by collecting a salary from someone else. The only realy way to make a fortune, small or large is by starting your own company and growing it. You may want to start the company and run it, you may start it with the intent of taking it public, you may start it with the idea of selling it to some other company. It doesn't really matter.
In this book Mr. Tracy talks about what is needed to set up a viable company. It begins with the first step of selecting a product or service, and the next few years are going to see more such opportunities than have ever existed before. Just think of the problems and opportunities: global warming, software is still growing, the opening up of the Soviet Union, turning away from an oil based economy.
From there he goes on to virtually every aspect of setting up a business. I'd only make a couple of further suggestions:
. Get a computer and learn how to use it. I'm writing this on a computer I bought used for $55. So money is no excuse.
. Buy a Business Plan Writing software package to use to prepare your business plan. It will give you hints about things you never thought of.
. Get an accounting package. Can't afford an expensive package, buy a used, earlier edition package on eBay. They don't change that much. But get a new income tax package every year because the laws do change.
Book Description
Throughout the last fifteen years of the bull market, individual investors were able to participate and amass financial holdings by way of mutual funds. But the constant buying and selling to "beat the market" and grow their fund's wealth also entailed costs and capital gains. And who paid for it? The investor. Over the past 20 years smart investors began switching to index mutual funds to keep more of their money. Index funds buy and hold all of the stocks in an index, dramatically reducing trading costs and taxes. And now, with Larry Swedroe's expert advice, the small investor can take advantage of this investment strategy and win big. In The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You'll Ever Need, Larry Swedroe explains:
* How index mutual funds out-earn older investment strategies
* How to pick the right balanced "passive" portfolio that will reward investors with the highest expected return for the amount of risk the investor is willing to accept
* How to play the winner's game with this big and rapidly growing investor trend. Based on over forty years of research by the world's leading financial economists, the advice Larry Swedroe offers in this new and valuable book shows that those willing to move beyond conventional wisdom will open themselves to a method of great financial growth.
* The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You'll Ever Need is the first major book on the newest Index Mutual Funds and strategies, today's biggest investor trend.

Great education for a dummy like me........2005-03-29
Larry Swedroe does a great job explaining the concept of the Modern Portfolio Theory and using index funds in a passive way opposed to a fund dependent on a manager. The first part of the book supports why an investor should avoid the trade magazines, newsletters, and MR. "I know it all" who ends charging you the higest fees and commissions.
Chapter 7 is worth the price of the book since this is where Swedroe shows the best ways to built a portfolio.
I had some concerns and emailed the author and he responded the very next day(can't beat that). I've read some other books on investing but this one like a good movie has had me thinking ever since.
Good Introductory Book on Investing...but..........2003-01-31
The book is an easy read and can be understood by beginners as well as the experienced. Beware that the author does over state the advantages of indexing and passive investing to some degree--take note of "assumed" realized gain example on page 48--active managed fund of 8% in capital gains vs 1% in passive. If he actually looked at some annual reports of actual mutual funds, the difference between active and passive funds in the tax efficiency area is much less.
The author goes on explaining the higher historical returns of smaller companies on page 120. However, it has failed to remind that the much higher trading expense noted on page 94 must be accounted for thus the difference is less than dramatic.
The book could have discussed in more detail how the weighting of the funds for proper diversification used on sample portfolios from pages 153-160 was determined. He accused market timers for data mining--back testing for patterns yet these portfolios rely to some degree on value stocks outperforming growth stocks over the long run.
The worst criticism is that the book is biased for use of DFA funds--thinly disguised marketing of his own firm who Buckingham Asset Management which is one of the few firms which handles these funds. As noted, these funds are available only through select fee only advisors or through pension funds. What it failed to mention is that most fee only advisors only take clients with at least $100,000 to invest and for those with less than $500,000, the fee is typically 1% per year. This is addition to DFA fund's own expense of about 0.6% making them effectively a loaded fund.
I agree DFA funds themselves are very well structured line of products. However, the difference in expense and the seemingly endless addition of new indicies makes me feel that their small edge is getting lost. There's a fairly good debate on indexfunds.com on DFA vs Vanguard which is worth a read before enlisting an expense manager.
The author took incredible efforts to discredit professional fund managers for their mediocre performance of expensive active management. Part of the reason was that managers tend to drift away from established styles after being frustrated from recent underperformance. But the author defends fee only advisors that they can add value by making sure you follow your own strategy yet cautions that the investor should retain the last word. The temptation for the advisor to come up with a "better" plan while you're investing in an established strategy exist. The advisor's job is to make sure the investor doesn't make the mistake of drifting in style but also has the opportunity to influence a style drift. All the effort of promoting low cost investing approach seem to have gone to waste the moment the author is subtly pushing fee only advisor.
Author attempted to discredit Professor Jeremy Siegel's claim that small cap stocks do not outperform large cap stocks if an 8 year stretch is removed from a 70 year record on page 119. The author used a completely different index than Professor Siegel. It's still debatable whether there was a simple abberation in historical return or not especially considering the added trading cost of smaller companies.
The numbers seem to be exagerrated a bit by pulling things out of context so be careful with any numeric claims and draw your own conclusion only after doing more research.
Despite these problems with the book, it is a good read. It explains the merits of passive investing, the principals of diversification, why fundamental/technical analysis aren't necessary or may even be counter productive, etc.
I highly recommend reading Jeremy Siegel's "Stock for the Long Run."
Strong Foundations For Investors.......2002-06-25
After reading Larry Swedroe's excellent second and third books I felt compelled to return and read this, his first book. My urge to do so has been more than adequately rewarded by this excellent text.
Larry Swedroe lays strong foundations by focusing on three major areas. First, he summarizes the results of several studies indicating that passive investment strategies outperform, over time and by a wide margin, active investment management. Second, Mr. Swedroe offers the individual investor a through overview of Modern Portfolio Theory and its subset, Efficient Markets Theory. Third, Larry provides a guide to the construction of a portfolio and discusses the roles investment advisors may undertake for the individual investor.
While some of the material in this first book is duplicated and updated in the second and third books, I recommend all three of these texts to individual investors. Larry Swedroe possesses the knack to take recent academic research and pass it on in an understandable, common sense manner to the many individual investors who do not possess advanced degrees in statistics.
My own library of "good books" on investing has grown to nearly 20 different texts. All three of Larry Swedroe's texts make my "good book" list. (I have rejected over 100 other texts and not included them on my "good book" list.) I highly recommend all of Larry's books, together with additional texts by Burton Malkeil, Peter Bernstein, John Bogle, Bruce Temkin, Roger Gibson and others. Larry's three books greatly assist the individual investor to build a solid base of knowledge to understand what works (and the many things that don't work) in investing. I highly recommend this book, and all three of his books, as key additions to every serious investor's library.
Swedroe.......2002-05-22
One of the best books on investing in index funds you'll ever need. The model portfolios are a big help too, and Swedroe's strong cases and academic studies supporting his ideas; it really convinces you to why you should invest in index funds. After interacting with the author, who, is one of the smartest men on investing, I can't wait to read his other books.
Swedroe is one of very few honest folks in the business.......2002-03-05
I read this and his first book. It changed the way I invest completely. There is far too much conflicting interests on Wall Street. From Wall St Houses, Mutual Funds, Investment advisors, analyst, on and on. They are all driven by getting a share of your investment dollars - performance is secondary. (Just look at returns from the mutual funds and the fees they charge - it is criminal). Passive management is so logical. Especially when so few of these advisors and funds EVER beat indexes on a consistent basis. Swedroe's books are both excellent. The second devotes more time to asset allocation - which is important even in a passive management structure.

4 Bestsellers in 1 Book:
As a Man Thinketh by James Allen
Your thoughts and your dreams determine what you are and what you will be. This little book is meant to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that they themselves are makers of themselves, by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage. Contents: Effect of Thought on Circumstances; Effect of Thought on Health and Body; Thought and Purpose; Thought Factor in Achievement; Vision and Ideals; Serenity;
The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles,
THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophize afterward. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action, without going into all the processes by which those conclusions were reached.
The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin
The first American book on personal finance, The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin is still the best and wisest money book ever written. Originally published in 1758 as the preface to Poor Richard' s Almanack, this little gem has been through innumerable printings and sold millions of copies to those in search of smart but entertaining advice about hard work, earning and saving money and debt. As the 21st Century charges along and the current economic climate continues to send out mixed messages, Franklin' s simple but wise commentary on the value of industry and frugality resonates as much for us today as it did for listeners nearly 350 years ago. This book is very short, but he gets to the point.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
"Whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve." Napoleon Hill
Be prepared, therefore, when you expose yourself to the influence of this philosophy, to experience a CHANGED LIFE which may help you not only to negotiate your way through life with harmony and understanding, but also to prepare you for the accumulation of material riches in abundance. Teaching, for the first time, the famous Carnegie formula for money-making, based upon the THIRTEEN PROVEN STEPS TO RICHES.
Organized through 25 years of research, in collaboration with more than 500 distinguished men of great wealth, who proved by their own achievements that this philosophy is practical.

getting rich is easy ;).......2007-06-27
read this one very fully with an open mind. getting rich is easy and needed by all. this is a must have!!!
Automatic Wealth 1 : The Secrets of The Millionaire Mind.......2007-05-07
This was an excellent collection of similar material. It helps to have them in one volume to cross reference
or to quote a particular author. The size of the book ( slightly larger than the typical paperback ) was
also a plus !!
I would highly recommend this collection.
THE BEST classic books on abundance and wealth.......2007-03-29
Where do I start with these books? Classic! Timeless! Must read! I sound like I'm writing copy for a blockbuster best seller. These books are the basis for many of the wealth and abundance work that we see today. Look at all the new material and then compare with these and you will see that the new ones have been updated in language and example, but the truths remain the same.
I believe in going to the source of popular material and especially The Science of Getting Rich and Think and Grow Rich are the wonderful. Both are short reads, but the concepts may have you going back over and over to clarify what seems to be amazing assertions. Take the messages seriously and you may seriously change your life and financial situation!
The Key.......2007-01-04
This audio CD is great for people looking to understand how to increase their value as a money maker in today's society. The principles are great I've already started to develop a new way of thinking, it's really teaching you how to be aware of how easy it is to get ahead in life. Plus it's convenient, I just pop it in the CD player an listen, but the trick is to listen to it consistently if you want change to come your way.
