This book teaches that even if you are not the next Amazon, ebay, or Google, you can still make a million on the internet. You just need to find a niche that is underserved.
I purchased "Starting an Online Business for Dummies" and the reviews were mixed. In someone's reviews, they mentioned this book and said it was much better. They suggested buying this book instead of the Dummies book. I took the advice, and am glad I did!
The book is great because it helps you understand that you don't need to be a billion dollar business to start with. Even small, underserved niche markets can earn a million.
I highly recommend this book if you are considering an ebusiness. It is well worth the money. I have been talking about this book to many people who have asked to borrow the book. I keep telling them to pick up their own copy because I am still using it as a reference! It is a great book!

If you already know what a "blog" is and you're fully proficient in searching the internet with google or yahoo, you're probably too sophisticated for this book. Fox's target are people with very little education (He introduces us at one point to the fancy MBA word, "business plan"). Fox also uses the website he started for his wife and mother as case studies. I guess I should have known better. After all, it is called 'Internet Riches" and has a picture of some guy driving in a brand new convertible on the cover.

I love it when a book comes along that points out web site functions I never realized existed. This book packs a lot of information into a compact read, which makes it easy to get through but steers you in exactly the right marketing direction. The way he assigns ratings to the various marketing techniques helps one decide what to tackle first.

As the author of the recently self-published Hokie Games: Virginia Tech Football Game by Game 1945-2006 I devoured the contents of this book to try to jump-start my Amazon sales. I can't speak to the results just yet as the portion of the suggestions that I have implemented has only been in place for a week or so.
In fact, part of the appeal of the book is that it's not supposed to show results yet. It's not a quick "make you book an instant Amazon bestseller" plan. The book has tips and techniques that grow your presence over the long haul. That's exactly what I was looking for and this book delivers.
The steps were easy to follow and the "why's" were well laid out. Obviously, the author did his homework on the subject of Amazon.

When I purchased this book, I was really quite skeptical. I figured that it was just a promotion of Amazon.com and not really any useful advice.
Then my wife and I published our first children's book, Santa and Sam's Big Secret through Outskirts Press. Although OP did a wonderful job of publishing the book, the major portion of publicity for the book was left up to us. We have been following some of the advice offered by Brent Sampson and we do believe that it is helping with the promotion of our book.

I wrote a book called, "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening." It took three years to write. I spent another year sending it to publishers before I finally found a small publisher willing to work with me.
The Great Day came. I held my baby in my hands. I knew the world would proclaim her beauty. I was wrong, very wrong. A few friends and friends of friends bought the book. I was stunned and hurt too. But I kept trying to market my book the old fashioned way. I contacted the major book chains. To them I did not exist. I sent over 100 books to bookstores, and I never got a single order. I sent about 100 books to major newspapers, and I never got a single review.
One local bookstore, New Renaissance Bookshop in Portland, Oregon was very helpful. But the support of one local bookstore was not enough. I was almost ready to give up, but instead I went to Amazon and joined the Amazon Advantage program. I sold perhaps 20 books. Victory at last! Amazon loved me and I loved Amazon! And then I did not sell another book on Amazon for about a month.
I was ready to give up. But I knew my book could help readers feel better about themselves. I had received dozens of touching letters that left me feeling happy that something I had done made a difference in the world. Besides, I needed the money. Family illnesses had depleted my bank account and my debt was mounting. So, instead of quitting, I did an Amazon search for books on marketing books, and I found, "How to Sell Your Book on Amazon," by Brent Sampson.
I wish I had found this book a year ago. If you have a book you are trying to sell, or if you want to write a book, buy this book. Unless you are that rare writer who pens a bestseller, you will find yourself alone in a big jungle. Amazon gives you a path out of the jungle, and Brent Sampson's book is the guide.
Honestly, I have just started implementing his suggestions. So I have lots of work to do. After I finish this review, I will ask him to be my Amazon friend. I might ask him to review "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening." He said to mention my book as often as possible without being obnoxious. And finally, he said Amazon friends are important. You see, if you become my friend, whenever anyone goes to your Amazon profile and clicks on my picture in your Friends section, there's a chance I will sell a book. And if someone clicks on your picture in my Friends section, you might sell a book. So, do you want to be my friend? Good heavens, I feel like a little kid again.

Some good advice, some bad..........2007-10-23
There really is no substitute for experience, and even then there are times where experience is worthless if we haven't learned from it. Books about eBay can help to close the gap between new seller and experienced seller, but none are all encompassing. It is my belief that a great ebay seller is one that is well seasoned AND well read. Can this book augment the latter? Hmm...
I do like how the book breaks the mold of cookie cutter eBay books that simply copy and paste information from eBay's own help section. Instead, this work shares a lot of insight that one cannot readily obtain from help pages or online advocate sites. Information on tax ID numbers, third party utilities, and record keeping are not topics common in help pages or even forums, and even then the information obtained by anonymous, random individuals isn't always accurate. I salute the book for filling in the gaps here.
In other areas though, I think that some of the advice is contradictory and even poor. I don't doubt that the information contained here came from real people based on real experiences, but being a powerseller by default does not constitute knowing the best way, or even a good way to do business.
I find it appalling that the 408 page book only spends some 16 pages discussing shipping. The fine art of shipping involves dynamics that make the whole rest of eBay seem simple by comparison. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of poor experiences on eBay are attributed to poor shipping, lack of knowledge when it comes to shipping, or misconceptions about shipping obligations or practices. The book takes one of the most complicated and important facets of eBaying and shoves it into a corner as to minimize focus on the subject. The section on shipping is so small as a matter of fact, that some readers might skip over what little information is here, forced to continue loss through undercharging, refunds, and negative feedback.
International trade is also marginalized down to 2, yes two, pages. There is no possible way that the plethora of knowledge needed to effectively trade internationally can be put to two pages. This serves to provide just enough to get someone in trouble.
The book further contradicts itself by saying that you should not pad your shipping charges, only to charge at cost, but then it advocates hiding the actual charges from your customers. The book also advocates such things as getting a Paypal debit card, which means that your funds are subject to seizure and you will not be collecting a significant amount of return on your investment as you would with say, a normal savings account or a certificate of deposit. Most experienced sellers do not keep a balance in Paypal. Furthermore, the book mentions that Cashier's Checks and Money Orders are risk free. This couldn't be further from the truth. The majority of online fraud is committed with wire transfers, checks, and especially, money orders.
While I think there is plenty of good advice here, the bad advice here should be apparent to anyone that has had their fair share of eBay selling experiences. It is for reasons such as these books, that there is no substitute for experience, and until you've gotten your feet wet, you won't know which parts are right or wrong.

I had high hopes for this book. Great title, but it left me feeling a little disappointed. I learnt a few things, but it didn't represent any huge breakthroughs. My favorite part was chapter 4 which reviewed the pros and cons of the various listing tools and software.

If you are interested in becoming a more effective seller and a knowledgeable buyer this is a very informative book. Its simple format lends itself to quick reference or more in-depth discussions, depending on your level of inquiry. I've read a lot of ebay books and this is a great one to purchase! This book gave me more information that I ever could have needed for starting up an Ebay business and I will continue to use it as a reference and guide for many of the troubling questions that arise in the cyber-business world.
The authors gave you more resources than you can imagine as well as detailing the benefits of becoming an Ebay Power Seller. It's amazing how much information they crammed between the pages and how amazingly detailed and forthcoming they were with the information. I was surprised to see the multiple lists for valuable online resources, and for those of us who learn best by seeing things in action-- they even have screen-shot pictures in the book with the corresponding URLs to the areas that can give you the most information.
As stated before, this book has a permanent place on my shelf as a reference guide to Ebay and beyond. Even if you're a current seller on Ebay, looking to upgrade your status to a Power Seller, give this book a shot. It could give you the extra boost you need for driving your business toward its goals and setting you on the right paths toward them.

I am giving this book 2 stars because I thought it would be great, like Seth Godin or the Wizard of Ads books. I expected a book of "Secret Formulas" as the title says. Instead it felt like a well-written Website 101 book, 90% common sense plus a few good tips sprinkled in. No "oh wow" moments here. Big disappointment. Honestly, I kept reading page after page waiting for the meat, but it was just 2 pieces of bread.

All of these people had a "Vision" which may not have been shared by others.
These people developed a Plan and most importantly, they acted on it.
They turned their Dreams into Reality by hard work.
There is NO easy way out unless you win the lottery and then statistically speaking within 2 years you will be in mega debt.

This is a VERY high quality book. I enjoyed it immensely. I am a professional internet marketer and this book is very real. The business can be very rough and Mitch gives it to you like it is. This book is very powerful and I enjoyed this one and "Internet Marketing Secrets: Make a Bundle on the Internet". Both books provide crucial advice and powerful counsel.

Good insight into the relationship between the internet and how it might affect real estate. However, the info is very basic and maybe relevant for the early 90's. I thought since this book was published in 2000 that it might be more up to date. By now, everyone knows what a web site is and what e-mail is. This book gave no relevant insight into how to make technology tools work for you. I was highly disappointed. If you are clueless about the internet and in your later years, you may benefit --- but if you are there are much greater books out there about the internet. You would not have a computer geek try to tell you about real estate, why have a realtor TRY and teach you about the internet!!!

When I started this book, I figured I'd hihglight Ms.Murphy's best pointers for taking real estate business from traditional marketing forms to easy e-listing and website applications. Turns out, I practically highlighted the entire book! I had the chance to pick up this book in San Francisco at the NAR convention. Boy was I surprised! I've built a couple of websites, and own more domain names than I care to admit...so, I'm pretty technologically adept. Ms. Murphy still answered a lot of questions about real estate and technology. In other words, you don't have to be clueless to get a TON out of this book. There is so much out there for agents. I personally find it hard to wade through all the technology offers that come into my e-mail everyday. It's tough to know what's good, what's not, what works, and what is a waste of time and money. She gives great tips about all areas of real estate and the Internet. Now if she just had the magic answer to avoiding cold calling and door knocking!!

Great for beginner and experienced. Covers the basics on how "IT" works, but then fills it in with rich insights from those proven successful. According to the cover, written by "eBay's #1 Rated U.S. Education Specialist". It certainly shows in her content. Beyond simply "how to", the inside scoop on the type of people who are succeeding, and in what way they have implemented eBay. Ton's of interviews and profiles packed with to-the-point insider secrets. Information on pages 138-143 was VERY helpful. Must also check out suggestions on 329.

Too much persuasion.......2007-07-10
This book contains some interesting ideas and insights about how the new Web 2.0 tools can be used to sell a product. However, the book ultimately is trying to persuade you to buy the courses taught by the authors.
The final chapters are supposed to be online, and you have to register your email address to access them. Having done this, I got a page with this content: "The iChapters and multimedia coaching files are currently being edited and prepared for loading. We will notify you using the email address you provided as soon as they are online."
The book warns about poor marketing techniques, because Web 2.0 enables swift communication between customers, and a product is quickly discredited. I have to agree, and recommend everyone to buy some other book instead.

I bought this book at an Internet marketing seminar last month, and just started reading it last night. GREAT STUFF!
I just launched a new vlog (distributing as a podcast soon), and I'm finding so much great advice in this book on how to tweak and fine-tune our content, delivery, and distribution. We jumped in fast just to learn how to do video--now it's time to strategize. We're also new to blogging. "Secrets of Online Persuasion" contains a WEALTH of information on how to approach and do all of it (and I'm only on Ch 5; can't wait to keep going, but first: I'm headed off to check out a few of the resources offered in the book).
This book really is fantastic (and very well-written, might I add).

OK, the topic of the book is important to businesses who are currently online and those who have yet to get there. However, other than "discovering" that Web 2.0 tools are important, that blogging is a keystone, and that frequency, content and tracking are important, their coverage of the topic could easily have been distilled down to 1 page vs. 1 book. Nothing is covered in detail. The book is a front for their other coaching products. Skim it in the bookstore and save your money.
Have You Wanted to Understand the New Media and Social Networking..........2007-04-22
Then get this book immediately.
I kept hearing all the hype about "new media" (YouTube, MySpace, blogging) but the only thing I really understood was that it seemed to be something that kids did -- mine in particular. LOL I completely missed the point.
Something kept telling me that it was important I understood what the power of the new media is and how I could harness it. That's when I found, Secrets of Online Persuasion.
This book did something that made it worth its weight in gold -- it helped me understand the mindset of the new media. It also helped me begin to formulate a plan to implement new media strategies in our business.
This is an extremely well-written book and if you're a business owner, plan on having a few hours available the minute you get it as you won't be able to put it down.
Climbing into the Hearts of the Audience.......2007-03-16
Learning about web 2.0 after studying online marketing for a while, was a refreshing renewal for me.
I learned the most from Chapters 11 - 12, tribal marketing and influencing the influencer's. It gave a whole new insight into how to honor other peoples style while still honoring my own.

Ebook Secrets Were REally Exposed.......2006-08-03
I found that the author knew his material well and really delivered what he promised in the title. In addition, he practiced what he preached by using the marketing strategies that were described, such as offering a good deal of important material through bonuses rather than having the material in the book, by participating in affiliate programs and making money from simply driving traffic and sales to other sites and products that will be needed for eBook marketing, and by marketing his own products. I have since been studying the marketing strategies of successful e-companies and I see the strategies described in this eBook being used extensively. I learnrd a great deal from this eBook.
