Book Description
They advertised soft drinks on fruit and underwear on sidewalks. They employed Ed Koch to bring Snapple to the American heartland. They even used Imelda Marcos to sell Kenneth Cole shoes. Advertising innovators Jon Bond and Richard Kirshenbaum have come up with more outrageously clever ways to get past consumers' detectors than anyone else in advertising today. And now, they're finally ready to reveal their methods.
In Under the Radar, Kirshenbaum and Bond chronicle their meteoric rise from a one-room, two-man Lower East Side stringer operation to Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, one of today's hottest agencies. They share the lessons they learned along the way and describe the evolution of their unique "under-the-radar" approach to grabbing and holding the attention of today's "been there, done that" consumers.
Under the Radar offers advertising and marketing professionals a deeply probing and instructive look at the nature of advertising and marketing in an age of information overload. Kirshenbaum and Bond provide a cogent analysis of how the world has changed since David Ogilvy laid down his ironclad rules for successful advertising. And, using in-depth critiques of many of today's best (and worst) ad campaigns, they describe what it takes to break through the defensive screens of a population bombarded by 1,500 ad messages each day.
You'll learn all about cutting-edge research techniques KB&P and other front-running agencies have developed for getting inside the heads and hearts of real people, and, just as important, how to use that knowledge to get ad-weary consumers to tune in rather than zone out. You'll also learn about the latest trends in integrated marketing, media planning, and guerrilla marketing, as well as new ways of structuring an agency in order to stimulate "under-the-radar" thinking.
Offering valuable lessons from the founders of one of today's most innovative and successful advertising firms, Under the Radar is essential reading for absolutely anyone involved in selling to consumers, from self-employed copywriters to marketing VPs at Fortune 500 companies.
"Under the Radar: Talking to Today's Cynical Consumer is a valuable and important new tool for the advertising industry from two pros at one of the hottest shops in town. Jonathan Bond and Richard Kirshenbaum offer valuable insights and creative solutions on how to break through the clutter to make sure the consumer gets the message." âO. Burtch Drake, President and CEO American Association of Advertising Agencies.
"Kirshenbaum and Bond's genius is their capacity to cut through informational clutter and reach the grass roots. In the war to save New York's drinking water, Kirshenbaum and Bond showed us how to speak truth to powerâand be heard!" âRobert F. Kennedy, Jr.
"This book is the next best thing to actually working with Bond and Kirshenbaum. They are good! They know when to listen and when to argue with a client. They're not just smart and creative, they are serious strategic thinkers." âRoger Ailes, Chairman and CEO, Fox News.
"If you want to understand how ad executives create smart, innovative advertising, Richard and Jon's book is a must read." âValerie Salembier Publisher, Esquire magazine
"Any book that helps a company deal with our over-communicated world is worth reading. Under the Radar is definitely one of those books." âJack Trout, Trout & Partners Ltd. author of The New Positioning: The Latest on the World's #1 Business Strategy.

Poorly written self promotion devoid of substance........2007-09-09
If I had to write a college paper to fill 200 pages about how smart I was this book is exactly what I would probably write. The problem is the authors are so convinced their advertising campaigns are so much better than all other ad campaigns that they just had to write a book to congratulate themselves and berate almost everyone else in advertising for being unimaginative. Yet they were unable to conjure up a single marketing or advertising concept in here except when they quote Ogilvy or Reis.
I bought this book to get a different perspective on marketing. After 3 pages I knew I might have made a mistake but read through this book anyway because I could not believe someone could possibly write a whole book without a single new thought or concept, so I kept reading. Luckily it was a quick read because their complete lack of substance meant I didn't have to stop to think about anything. Not once.
The classic books on advertising and marketing remain the magnificent Positioning books from Trout & Reis.
Dont waste money on this self promotion disguised as a book.
It is a manifesto for the today's marketing communications.......2003-09-25
It is a great book. I really enjoyed it and I recommended it to some of my fellow co-workers.
Although one of the obvious reasons to be written is to self-promote their agency, B & K have done tremendous job providing so much insight into how to talk and more importantly how to entice today's consumers. There are (or were) many agency theories and practices on integrated marketing communications such as "360 degree coomunications" of O&M or the "The Whole Egg" of Y&R but the really convincing and what is more important, working one is the approach of these two guys. I really like it and the fact that I feel like reading the book again is enough to rate it with five stars.
Who are these...?.......2002-12-02
If the level of writing and thinking is any indicator of the brains behind this agency, they should close within six months.
Shallow, insubstantial fluff from case studies of quite inconsequential and mostly invisible clients.
Most case studies in this book were entirely under everyone's radar.
Who the hell are Kirschenbaum and Bond anyway?
A book by nobodies about advertising? If they'd done something of note, maybe a book would be in order. Noteably, AdWeek published this vanity piece- no one outside of a very small circle of advertising people could possibly care what's in this book.
Pretty good book for the consumer........2002-07-27
I borrowed this book from a friend in the ad business. It's pretty good in that it shows how 'they' try to influence 'our' buying decisions. Now when I shop, I think twice before I purchase something. Thanks!
I'm not sure..........2000-06-02
I'm really not sure how I felt about this book. They did a great job of detailing the process of composing effective ads. They also developed some really good examples of advertising that gets results. I guess what bothers me is how shameless the writers are. First of all, this book might as well be a brochure for their agency...since all they do is brag about how creative their ideas are. Second of all, it seems as if they are guiltless about the seductive powers of advertising. But like I said...this book swings both ways. People who are cynical about the business will hate this book. People who are shameless will treasure it. And then there's people like me who can't figure out which end is up. So I did the best thing I could think of...I gave the book away. Good luck.

Suze Orman's Protection Portfolio.......2006-08-31
I found this product extremely disappointing and not worth my time or money for several reasons: 1) the audio is condescending and difficult to avoid, why not just let me read it if that is my preference? 2) you can't print out the tutorial pages so you have to go back and forth to refer to them again, which can sometimes be several screens back, 3) you cannot enlarge the screen image to fit your computer screen or move it to the side if you want to open another program to get information to fill out the Orman requirements. Being able to enlarge the screen would be a great benefit for me as I have poor eyesight-- which is the very reason I bought a 20" screen, 4) Suze Orman is on every screen. She's attractive but is spending too much time promoting herself over developing a good product, 5) you can not change the typeface from Courier (Times Roman would be nice) or change the page margins. The final document looks like it was produced in the 1920s. 6) when you print out the draft documents there are inexplicable holes in some of the paragraphs. They are aware of this problem (once they finally answered my email inquiry) but don't seem to think it is important to fix before releasing the product for sale. Why should I have to get to the end of the program before finding this out? 7) you can't continue to the next screen without hitting the "continue" button. Give me a break and let me press my return button instead of having to move my cursor around. The whole program seems to be a protoype to test on us unsuspecting customers.
It messed up my printer.......2006-07-26
The CD looks okay, and then when you go print the documents it completely messes up my printer, to the point that I wasted an entire new package of paper and still cannot print anything on my printer.
Get the Suze Orman Will & Trust kit instead.......2005-03-10
Dear Amazon Customers: Are you surprised that I myself have given my own product a one star rating? Dont be for you know I am always honest with you. Please be aware that at the time when this product was created (which was years ago now) that at that time it was great! It was the best the technology could offer at a price that everyone could afford. However since that time I have totally been able to 1000% improve it with the latest version which is under the title Suze Orman's Will and Trust Kit. I do not want you to waste your hard earned money on this version when for the same amount of money you can have the latest and the greatest. The new Will and Trust Kit answers all the criticisms in the reviews on this page and even more that needed to be addressed. This old version is browser based so you cannot save your information for security reasons, the new version on the WILL and TRUST KIT is on a CD ROM that can be downloaded onto your computer. This allows you to then give the disc to a friend or family member for them to download etc. So one kit can serve the entire family. The Will and Trust Kit not only has the CD ROM but it also has ten electronic books on the CD itself along with automatic updates of all the forms, so when changes happen you can for free get what you need to know. The new kit allows you to simply answer questions and it picks the forms you most likely should have and then fills in the information from your answers directly into those forms. The old version does not do any of this. The Will and Trust kit has the trust lawyer Janet Dobrovolny ( my trust lawyer who created this kit) verbally taking you through your forms via the audio format and you also can print out the directions and or read and listen to them on screen. There are over 50 forms on the new version, over 90 weblinks and 15 calculators. Please note: You DO NEED internet access to make the most of the updating process of the new Will and Trust Kit. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is I want you to get the most for your money and this old version of the Protection Portfolio, the page you are currently on, will not give you that but Suze Ormans Will and Trust Kit will. I would love if Amazon took this old version off all together and we have asked and asked them to do so, but that is not how they work so what to do, but now you know what I think. Thank you for taking time to read this. Suze Orman
Good book, Poor Software.......2004-11-23
While the information in the book was informative, I'm surprised at the poor quality of the software used to generate forms. The software does not allow you to electronically save (And modify) the forms - you must print them immediately. Information does not transfer from one form to the next, you must retype information endlessly. Was most surprised that someone of her prominence wouldn't seek out a better software vendor.
Great Value/40 Forms/PC & Macintosh Compatible.......2004-03-01
"Please take the necessary steps today to protect your tomorrows." ~Suze Orman
I was amazed at how much you can get these days for twenty dollars. This packet has one book filled with form samples and information, A CD-ROM with forms for various documents and two instructional CDs.
Suze Orman has created this protection portfolio so you can easily create a Will, a Revocable Living Trust or even a Cohabitation Agreement. She explains the most important documents that everyone must have and then explains how compiling these documents ahead of time will help prevent worry and stress if the unexpected occurs.
You will find forms and websites for the following information:
Credit Report/Card Documents
Important Personal Documents
Home Ownership Documents
Personal Insurance Documents
Social Security Documents
Retirement Plan Documents
Investment Documents
Estate Planning Documents
The book is divided up into 11 main chapters. The list of how long to keep various documents was very interesting. Suze shows you how to get rid of financial clutter all while organizing your documents. Then, she shows you how to get credit reports or file complaints with a Credit Bureau. Chapter three delves into Personal Documents. Here you can collect documents listed in the Important Personal Documents list. Chapter four deals with Home Ownership.
Then on to documents about automobiles, recreational vehicles and boats. Chapter six delves into the area of Personal Insurance Policies and Records. Chapter seven explains social security statements and cards. Chapter eight explains Retirement. Investments, Estate Planning Documents and Tax records complete this comprehensive book.
In the back of the book you will find a unique "Protection Portfolio Filing System." You can order additional items for about the same price as this portfolio.
Other features include:
The Protection Portfolio Emergency Contact Cards
The Protection Portfolio Help Site
Suze Orman is a contributing editor to O: The Oprah Magazine and has been called "a force in the world of personal finance." She is definitely organized and finally the world of Wills, Advanced Directive and Durable Power of Attorney all start to make sense. Life is complicated, but Suze Orman makes this all seem so easy to understand.

The best financial advice you will ever receive.......2007-08-23
I read this book 8 months ago. It was such an eye-opener that I went on to read ten other investment books over the ensuing 6 months. Although several other books cover much of the same material, Swedroe's book is the one that I have read and re-read several times. It really can stand alone as your "only guide to investing". Two of my relatives have read it now, as well. I now manage all of my investments myself, with confidence. Short term market drops don't worry me at all. I truly believe that anyone who reads this book and later reads Swedroe's bond book(by about the same title) will be well-armed to manage their investments without the expense of a broker or advisor.
Great Investment Book!.......2007-05-22
I've just finished reading your book and wanted to thank you so much for sharing this straight forward method of investing with all of us!! I've been investing for many years. I've tried timing the market, newsletter services, timing services; just about ever known method to not make money. After reading your book, it really seemed to 'click' for me.
I've been suggesting this book to many of my friends. They seem to want exactly what your strategy provides, reasonable returns with reduced risk. I wish I had found this book many years ago.
A tool box that does the job..............2007-05-09
This was an excellent book that covered all the necessary fundamentals without going into the excessive esoterica of the field that I, as a simple investor, did not need.
It also provided useful formulas and guidance for fixed security investments based on the different scenarios that different investors might have.
The book has definite views on total bond market funds as well as mortgage backed securities that you are not likely to find elsewhere and that every investor must necessarily know before investing.
The title really says it all.
Excellent book.......2007-05-09
One of 4 o5 of the best investment books I've read. Every investor should read this book.
Winning strategy? Yes!.......2007-05-08
Late summer of 2005 I decided to turn our investments over to a financial advisor. My wife questioned whether it made sense to give such a huge cut (2% of market value each year) to a brokerage firm. That weekend we went to Barnes and Noble and I bought this book. The rest is history. I am in index funds and short term bonds. I am 60/40 domestic/foreign. My return has been great but the most important thing is that I sleep well at night. I rebalance when the numbers get out of whack not because of some hunch or fear. I sold everything that I owned to get into this strategy and paid a large amount of tax but it has all been worthwhile. This strategy forces you to take profits when stocks rise and buy stocks when prices go down. It makes sense and it works.

A must-have for ANY woman.......2007-02-19
I recently purchased this book for my mother, after purchasing and LOVING sherman-wolin's book "Smart Girls Do Dumbbells". I flipped through the pages before giving this gift and was amazed by the wealth of information and the upbeat, positive message. Needless to say, my mom loved it. Sherman-Wolin has again managed to make exercising both fun, and informative. With so many "workout" books on the market, her unique feminine spin is refreshing and needed. Women ARE different than men, and they must exersize differently as well. Sherman-Wolin shows you how. I'd recommend this book to ANY woman, regardless of age (or biological clock ;) ). Menopausal women will (OBVIOUSLY) find this book especially helpful.

Prepare For Your Elder Years, To Feel Secure........2005-07-01
This is an interactive how-to book fulled with relevant comic strips and cartoons -- a very graphic publication. In it, he promotes reverse psychology to get what you want; my sister mastered in this type of child rearing which I could never learn.
This book is about setting goals, not just realistic, but real. Make this goal as though you were living it today. Visualize. By doing this, your enthusiasm will rise, your focus will intensify, and you'll be able to stick to your goal.
Nothing is impossible. Sure enough, one day, you will make it happen, because you'll have made it important to you, vitally important. After you set your goal, you have to plan how to achieve it. Too many retired people are so focused on maintaining a living that they sometimes forget to have a life, and become 'bored to tears!'
Lincoln said: "And in the end it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." He gives several "what-if" and "if-only" scenarios. Whatever you choose, however you go about achieving your goals, the main end result is to be happy along the way and when you reach your destination. We may not get what we want when we want it. I was told by a stranger some years ago that God does not work on our time, but He has a plan for each of us in His own time.
John Greenleaf Whittier said, "For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are those "It might have been." He tells us that "Bill Gates is rich because he own a whole lot of Microsoft, the software company he started. He's the richest person in America, perhaps the world." Part II shows you how to have your cake and eat it, too: take your choice, pound cake is fixed income investments and stocks; marble cake is filled with both. Cupcakes are fads. Avoid them.
complete waste of YOUR money.......2005-03-10
this book is contrarian to a fault. i think the author purposely incites controversy. the bottom line is this: every individual's financial circumstances vary and no one answer is correct for everybody. if you have student loans at 8% and a mortgage at 9%, it makes more sense obviously to pay down the higher debt, deductions be damned. many people make stupid mistakes such as making buying decisions based on tax deductions without thinking about the consequences to their budgets. they leave out property taxes, maintanence, etc. that adds up. for most people, paying down other debts first may make sense, but to keep your mortgage unpaid in the hopes of making double-digit returns in the market is foolish...it is much more complicated than that. there is your tax bracket, fees and expenses, time frame, investment risk, etc. such blanket statements are foolish for edelman to make. also, roth IRA's can make alot of sense to those people who qualify for them; his argument to not invest in it is weak at best and is based on loose assumptions. also, in many parts of the country, buying a starter home/townhome can make alot of sense. you can sell it for a decent profit in many cases, at least if you stay more than a couple of years. this beats renting anyday, and in his arguments he never addresses the real losses of renting, including the increase in the annual rent which in some markets can be exorbitant. anyway, read it and draw your own conclusions. there is never a substitute for common sense.
Interesting, but self-promoting.......2004-11-14
As a young, beginning investor, I have been educating myself about investments, savings, etc. With that in mind, I have been avariciously reading almost all the investment books I can find. Edelman's book first brought to my mind a concern about index funds, because every other academic book I've read supports them. I think Edelman has an axe to grind, being an personal finance manager and simply put, to Edelman, Index funds are the anti-christ and must be eliminated. However, his logic does not make sense, nor do his facts and figures hold up. The index funds simply mirror the market, and this they have done very well. He neglects to go into their low fees, and also he does not address the issue of survivorship of mutual funds, that is, that the current data that is published includes only those funds that survive so they are naturally better. Poor funds are simply eliminated or absorbed into other funds.
His comments on mortgages I found interesting, but consider that if you are getting a 10% return on an investment versus an 8% mortgage, that might make sense, but to get %10 you are going to have to invest in something risky (stocks). Can we reasonably assume that 10% is a good reasonable return? I don't think so.
So in sum, the work is biased toward moving money to professional managers while at the same time providing us with statements that are not well thought out. Better books I'd recommend are Malkiel's 'A Random Walk Down Wall Street' and Bernstein's 'The Four Pillars of Investing.'
Huh what?.......2004-05-24
I found a review supposedly by a school teacher from Florida complaining about middle income brackets of $54,000. He goes on to to say that he won't see that in 35 years.
I work for a school system in Pennsylvania and I don't know how I'd live on only $54,000/per year. I also know people in Florida who are making 6 figure incomes. One guy I know made over $50,000 last month.
Don't blame your profession, your location or Ric Eedelman. Blame the guy you see when you look in the mirror!
Edelman is a controversial guy.......2004-01-15
No doubt that Edelman is a very controversial guy--just check out these reviews. However, Edelman is also very knowledgeable and very accurate. He accurately called the Index Fund fallout as early as 1998. HE WAS WIDELY CRITICIZED FOR THAT. But as someone who listened to him, I am glad he was so perceptive!Likewise, Edelman suggests to carry a mortgage vs having a paid off mortgage and invest the difference. As another astute reviewer commented, this is a lot like the old term vs cash value life insurance debate. Which is better?Cash value is generally the better value for the insurance salesman. Likewise, a paid off mortgage is not doing you any good because it is a liability and provides no income. Better to put that extra mortgage moneyin good investments that can grow 20%-25% per year.Edelman may be controversial but his advice is right on.

Authoritative treatment of a timely topic.......2007-10-04
I have recently gotten interested in this topic due to world events. I bought this book and read it in one sitting--it is knowledgable and eye-opening. At no time did I feel the author was trying to "sell" me on anything...on the contrary the book reads as if the author is an expert in the field and simply wants the word to get out. Yes, his service is listed, but then, so are hundreds of other offshore experts--carefully presented according to their expertise.
In fact a colleague of mine contacted the author for advice and claims that the company handled him well and expeditiously regarding his request and order.
Apart from that, I believe that this work may be the best, if not the only timely report on the subject. If you want to know more, I would say it is a must-read, with the only intent to correctly inform on a topic that the "powers-to-be" may wish to keep covered up. Worth a look!
Becareful with this Author.......2007-08-19
The book is basically a plug for their financial service. I spent a lot of time corresponding with them and purchased one of their offshore banking packages. I had detailed my overseas residency situation and expressed concerns about their ability to match me with my desired banking product. They assured me that there would be no problems and if there were, I would get a full refund. Six months later, I have no Swiss bank account and no refund.
The Best on the Topic, and More.......2007-05-03
I recommend this book as a fascinating read to anyone, whether or not they are interested in minimizing their tax-load legally. (And who isn't?) But while this book delivers brilliantly on that score, it is also an authoritative, entertaining manual that serves as a wake-up call on the state-of-the world these days. It treats the both the big picture and the important details of offshore, and provides excellent contacts for not just legally avoiding taxes, but also for protecting one's assets, future, and indeed, one's personal safety and sovereignty. Further, this is not only the best book on the topic by far, but it is the only current book by several years. And the author truly knows his topic. Fascinating, excellent read.
Eye Opening.......2007-02-24
This is an eye opening book you must experience. Regardless of your politics, nobody likes excess and unfair taxation. Taxation without representation started the American Revolution, however the American Spirit is dead. We are the only industrialized nation that taxes our citizens living abroad. As I write this review, there is small business legislation in congress, hidden inside of that legislation is a law that would allow the IRS to tax assets of Americans who decide to expatriate to a country with less of a tax burden. A must read book. For additional information, visit The Sovereign Society website. In addition, The Patriot Act has allowed our government investigators to replace "probable cause" with "suspicion" when investigating your (the taxpayer's) financial privacy.
A Handbook for Paranoid Dreamers.......2007-02-05
Whatever practical advice this book offers is undermined by its paranoid anti-government tone: would you really contact - and entrust your money to - a financial advisor in a foreign country on the basis of a recommendation by someone who opens with dark warnings such as "Certain special interests in the world today are trying to close particular doors as we speak"? Or, "The trick is that governments with certain behind-the-scene agendas regularly redefine those parameters in an attempt to control their taxable subjects and hang on to revenues for support of their ever-expanding plans and budgets. As James Bond said, 'World domination, same old dream.'" (Page 3). If you're writing an adolescent spy-thriller, this book will be fine background. If you're planning an estate or have real financial responsibilities, look elsewhere.

A valuable asset.......2006-05-31
Wall Street Words is the most valuable and most frequently used book in my library. I recommend it to my friends and to Amazon users.
THIS BOOK GIVES YOU AN EDGE WHEN STUDYING FOR THE SERIES 7.......2003-08-07
I am currently studying for the Series 7 stockbroker exam. The study manual often introduces terms with little or no explanation. The glossary in the study manual only covers a small fraction of the terms used. Before buying this book, I would have to list the terms, stop studying, and find explanations. Sometimes, I would have to waste precious study time calling into my trainer to discuss these terms.
Now, I have all of the definitions I need right at my finger tips. This book has been a great supplement to the Series 7 study material. I no longer waste time struggling with terms I do not understand. I do not have to waste valuable time on hold calling into my trainer to get a better understanding of terms.
A good word for Wall Street Words.......2001-08-10
It has all the words, it has all the definitions...it's all here. I work for a Wall Street firm and this is one of the few investment reference guides I keep at my office. Buy it.
Very Helplful.......2000-07-19
A fine book for even experienced investors. I use this book daily even though I am only a part-time investor. A nice addition to your bookshelf
An excellent guide to Wall Street Terms.......2000-05-23
This is probably the single best reference source for Wall Street terminology. It is complete and even includes investment tips. I would recommend Wall Stree Words to any investor who is sometimes baffled by the financial mumbo jumbo of the Wall Street experts.
Book Description
Cool isn't just a state of mind, a celebrity fad, or an American obsession -- it's a business. In boardrooms across America, product managers are examining vodka bottles and candy bars, tissue boxes and hamburgers, wondering how do we make this thing cool? How do we make this gadget into the iPod of our industry? How do we do what Nike did? How do we get what Target got? How do we infuse this product with that very desirable, nearly unattainable it factor?
In this wide-ranging exploration the authors Noah Kerner, a celebrated marketing maverick, and Gene Pressman, legendary creative visionary and former co-CEO of Barneys New York, have uncovered surprising and universal patterns and trends. They systematically parse the successes and failures of the last few decades -- in music and fashion, magazines and food, spirits and hip-hop culture. Their discoveries are pulled together in this definitive book on the commerce of cool.
Nike and Target endure as relevant brands not because of a shortsighted and gimmicky campaign. A dash of bling and a viral website don't amass long-term value. Brands are effectively developed when companies take substantial risk -- and face the possibility of real failure -- in order to open up the opportunity for real success.
Chasing Cool includes interviews with more than seventy of today's most respected innovators from Tom Ford and Russell Simmons to Ian Schrager and Christina Aguilera. And through this accomplished assemblage, Pressman and Kerner dig beneath the surface and reveal how emphasizing long-lasting relevance trumps a fleeting preoccupation with what's hot and what's not. In a multidimensional, entertaining, and eminently readable book that redefines how to appeal to today's savvy consumer, Kerner and Pressman explore the lessons to be learned by America's ongoing search for the ever-changing concept of cool. Readers will learn how to apply these lessons to their own businesses and creative projects in order to stand out in today's cluttered marketplace.
"Simply chasing cool is really a bad idea; inspired by cool is a great idea. Walk the street, see what's going on, and spit it out in your own way. Don't do it because you research it, do it because you breathe it."
-- Russell Simmons, chairman and CEO of Rush Communications
"I can't imagine having to hire a so-called Cool Hunter. If I had to go to someone else to be cool, I'd just pack up my bags and find a new profession."
-- Tony Hawk, professional skateboarder
"It's possible to be both mainstream and edgy. You can be the Goliath but you always have to think and behave like the David."
-- Scott Bedbury, former Nike and Starbucks marketing executive
"I love looking at trend reports because then I know exactly what I shouldn't be doing."
-- John Demsey, group president, Estée Lauder, MAC Cosmetics, Prescriptives, Sean John, and Tom Ford Beauty
"I don't believe in creation by committee. I think it's impossible."
-- Bonnie Fuller, chief editorial director and executive vice president of American Media Inc.
"We had to make a big decision at MTV when I was there. Do we grow old with our audience or are we going to be the voice of young America? We made the decision to be the voice of young America, which meant we had to let people grow out of MTV."
-- Bob Pittman, cofounder of MTV, former president of AOL
Customer Reviews:
Very insightful for anyone in marketing.......2007-10-23
As someone who works in the marketing business, I found the stories and insights in this book to be really helpful in my career. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get into marketing or seeking to build a brand.
Not worth your time.......2007-10-19
This book feels very disjointed. There is very little content and no real sense for how you would apply what little content there is. I am glad that I checked this out at the library instead of buying it.
MUST READ..........2007-09-16
One of the best books I've read this year...I couldn't put it down. My favorite part was how the authors break down real case studies and give inside information for brands that are relevant today. It was fascinating and informative. If you're into marketing, advertising, consumer behavior, pr, business, psychology, and more, you'll get a lot out of this book.
Chasing Tails.......2007-09-13
If you're interested in learning how cool the authors think they are (admittedly, they were successful at being cool), read it.
If you're looking for anything demonstrable or instructive, pass.
The Cool Inside.......2007-08-23
The book is well written and an easy read. Contemporary examples of "Cool Success" are inspiring and eye-opening. Any business owner can benefit from the insight provided in such conversational format.Chasing Cool will get your creative juices flowing as you embark on your next marketing campaign.
