Book Description
The world's best Spanish course just got better! Don Casteel, fluent in several languages and a former Foreign Service Officer, is well trained in the FSI method, and has completely revised and improved "the course that works." This 2002 Edition has improved audio with both male and female voices and over 200 illustrations with factoids, and the content is more contemporary than ever. This new version has retained the same grammatical and language content that has made this the most widely sold course on the language market. This basic Spanish Course is designed for people who need to learn a language completely and quickly. It is a five level course that once completed will enable you to understand spoken and written Spanish. It will also allow you to actively engage in conversations with an abundant vocabulary of several thousand words. Level One of the Platiquemos FSI Basic Spanish Course contains 8 CDs and one book

good course, but.......2007-03-12
It's a good way to learn to speak the language on your own, especially given the extensive drills; however, the sound quality is fair to poor at times making it occasionally difficult to use in the car.
This course isn't for sissies.......2006-05-28
If you are looking to pick up a little Spanish for a trip abroad, then this isn't the course for you. However, if you are serious about learning Spanish and are committed to working at it, then this is your ticket to success!
The debate over too fast/too slow here is absurd. I have spent time in Latin America and have heard the natives speaking...if they spoke at that rate on these lessons, none of us would ever become proficient. Through clear and concise pronunciation you are able to hear the correct pronunciation and repeat it. I find that as I have mastered a phrase I speak much faster, but if I had not heard it at a more normal pace in the beginning, I would not be pronouncing it correctly now. In order to be understood by native speakers, you need to be clear in your pronunciation...and practice makes perfect. I also agree with those that have said that if you cannot repeat the phrases in the time allotted, you are not ready to move on to the next unit. You need to be able to speak without thinking about it too much.
Level One was more of a review for me, but it also refreshed some things I had forgotten over the years. Ahora para los niveles dos, tres, quatro, cinco, seis, siete y ocho (Now for levels 1-8). I bought all eight levels and find that I can do about a unit or two per day in each level, based upon what I am doing at work that day.
I highly recommend this course if you are serious about learning to speak Spanish and not just order una cerveza on your next trip south of the border. Buena suerte en su viaje.
Cinco Estrellas Para Platiquemos!.......2006-01-12
The Platiquemos method is based on the best-selling FSI (Foreign Service Institute) method. I feel that I am qualified to give this review not only because I am the Founder of the Learning Spanish Like Crazy method but also because I have absorbed every FSI Spanish course on the market. That includes FSI Fast Course Spanish, FSI Programmatic Spanish 1 and 2, Barrons Mastering Spanish 1 and 2 (aka FSI Spanish 1 and 2 as opposed to FSI "Programmatic" Spanish), and FSI Spanish 3 and 4. In fact, I credit the FSI method for giving me the building blocks that enabled me to learn to speak Spanish so easily. After studying with the FSI method, the Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone Spanish courses were a piece of cake for me.
The original FSI method was developed by the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Government's Department of State decades ago. My one and only complaint with the original FSI Spanish lessons is that the method requires you to use text simultaneously with the audio. When the original FSI courses were created decades ago and before we were inundated with so many other options such as Internet, cell phones, Cable T.V. and mp3 players and we simply had more time on our hands, the FSI method was ideal. But with the advent of so many distractions finding the time to use a textbook may be somewhat of a challenge except for the most dedicated student of Spanish.
However, Don Casteel, the Editor of Platiquemos, has ingeniously solved this problem by re-creating the FSI method so that one can easily master Spanish with or without the text. I only used the text with less than half of the course, but even without using the text, it is was clear to me that the Platiquemos method completely embodies the same effective learning system developed by the Foreign Service Institute. The audio lessons were excellent for achieving proficiency in Spanish. And the text that I did read seemed ample for achieving literacy in Spanish.
I also found that the native speakers in Platiquemos spoke at a pace that was ideal for both listening comprehension and speech emulation for developing an authentic Latin American accent.
One of the things that I like most about the course was that each Unit ended with a Latin American song. I have always told people that the quickest way to learn Spanish is to not only expose yourself to the language, but also to the culture. After I completed each Unit, I found that the song that ended the Unit was always a relaxing and pleasant way to finish each Unit, especially when accompanied with a cold "cerveza" in my hand.
In addition to using music to immerse the student in Latin America culture, Don provides the student with illustrations and captions about the indigenous people of Latin America, including the Incas and Aztecs. Not only did these cultural and historical tidbits provide visual relief for me, I also found them very entertaining.
One of the greatest benefits of investing in the course is that the editor, Don Casteel, a former Foreign Service Officer with over twenty years in the Foreign Service of the U.S., is available to answer questions that you have about Latin American Spanish and culture -- but within reason, of course. As someone that has not only dedicated a lifetime to public service, but someone that is also fluent in several languages (Spanish, German and Finnish) and is presently living in Latin American, Don is more than qualified for the task.
So long as Don does not personally attempt to sing any of the Latin American songs that end each Unit, I strongly recommend Platiquemos Spanish.
NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL, BUT MADE FOR A SERIOUS LEARNER!.......2005-07-20
As someone who gained fluency in Spanish by studying it for the past 10-years, as well as through my travels, I am constantly analyzing the various Spanish language programs that are out on the market today. I have used the original FSI Spanish program as well as the Platiquemos updated FSI Spanish program and have opinions and recommendations for both.
Firstly, the Platiquemos course is ideal for anyone who wishes to truly study Spanish with the intentions of gaining fluency with future practice. The grammatical expalanations, samples and lessons for the student are vast. The FSI program is designed to give the learner a ton of practice, which is an essentail aspect when considering a self-guided study of Spanish.
However, Platiquemos, which is an udated version of the original Foreign Service Institute program is not as sophistacted or complete as the buyer would expect it to be...especially for the price! The recordings are fair and are of poor quality since they mix some of the old recordings with the newer ones. The speed the native speakers use is slower than natural speech, which defeats the purpose if you want to gain an "ear" for natuaral spoken Spanish. Also, too much of the old FSI content is used unchanged.
It is not worth $200! I recommend, if you want to try it out, download it! See for yourself, but don't have too high of expectations in regards to the overall quality of the course textbook and accompanying sound recordings. Platiquemos is not the best course, but is great for simply practicing grammar. The original FSI course has a more natural speed of speech used by the native speakers and the same grammatical aspects covered.
Platiquemos is a complete course for speaking Spanish.......2005-04-29
I've tried a several courses and books for learning Spanish. Some promise the easy way. As far as I can tell, there is no easy way. It takes a lot of time and discipline to really learn a foreign language. I talking about knowing the language well enough to understand movies, TV, and converse with native speakers. Platiquemos is one of the few courses that can take you from the beginning to the end - fluency. It is an 8 level course.
I bought the download edition from the platiquemos-letstalk website. It has over 47 hours of audio, and 1400 pages of text. You cannot finish the course in 47 hours though. It's really a 600 hour course. You'll need to listen to each lesson several times, and that is a good thing. Some course like Pimsleur offer 50 hours of audio, but you only have to listen to lesson once or twice because they're so easy. In the end, they have about 100 hours of instruction. The U.S. Foreign Service Institute created the course Platiquemos is based upon. They train diplomats and other people to be able to communicate professionally in language languages. They have found it takes about 600 hours to learn Spanish if you have effective materials. They actually created a course to teach people with no previous experience in Spanish to communicate well. This is that course, updated with modern typesetting.
Although you'll be glad you have all the text in the course, 90% of the time, you can study away from the written materials. That's great if you commute. The course will teach you how to read though, so you won't be illiterate when your done. You'll be able to speak, read, and understand Spanish.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Has history been tampered with?.......2007-10-23
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RAZQNMXM4M9CL Has history been tampered with? Yes, it has! Did events and eras such as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Roman Empire , the Dark Ages, and the Renaissance, actually occur within a very different chronology from what we've been told? Yes, they certainly did!
The history of humankind is both drastically shorter and dramatically different than generally presumed.
Why is it so? On one hand, it was usual custom to justify the claims to title and land by age and ancestry, and on the other the court historians knew only too well how to please their masters. The so called universal classic world history is a pack of intricate lies for all events prior to the 16th century. World history as we learn it today was entirely fabricated in the 16th-18th centuries. It's likely that nobody told you before, but
there is not a single piece of firm written evidence or artefact that is reliably and independently dated prior to the 11th century.
Naturally, after what you've learned in school and university, you will not easily believe that the classical history of ancient Rome, Greece, Asia, Egypt, China, Japan, India, etc., is manifestly false.
You will point accusing finger to the pyramids in Egypt, to the Coliseum in Rome and Great Wall of China etc., and claim, aren't they really ancient, thousands of years ancient? Well, there is no valid scientific proof that they are older than 1000 years!
The oldest original written document that can be reliably dated belongs to the 11th century!
New research asserts that Homo sapiens invented writing (including hieroglyphics) only 1000 years ago. Once invented, writing skills were immediately and irreversibly put to the use of ruling powers and science.
The consensual chronology we live with was essentially crafted in the 16th century by the Jesuits.
The world history was compiled from contradictory mix of innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts and other irrefutable proofs delivered by late mediaeval astronomers that were cemented by the authority of writings of the Church Fathers.
Early in life, we learn about ancient history. Children love the magical lessons of history - they are like fairy tales. Teachers recite breathtaking stories; very soon We learn by heart the names and deeds of brave warriors, wise philosophers, fabulous pharaohs, cunning high priests and greedy scribes.
We learn of gigantic pyramids and sinister castles, kings and queens, dukes and barons, powerful heroes and beautiful ladies, emaciated saints and low-life traitors.
Ancient history is based documents, manuscripts, printed books, paintings, monuments and artefacts - called primary sources.
The problem is that neither these ancient documents, nor events described therein can be irrefutably dated, moreover they contradict each other for the most part.
When a school textbook tells us that Genghis Khan in year X or Alexander in year Y, have each conquered half of the world, it means only that it is so said in some of the written sources.
There are no answers to simple questions:
When were these primary sources written?
Where and by whom were these sources found?
It is wrongly presumed that ancient and medieval chronicles, written by Genghis Khan's or Alexander the Great contemporaries and eyewitnesses, are readily available. Actually, only sources written hundreds or even thousands of years after the events are there, compiled mostly in the 16th 18th centuries, or even later.
As a rule, these sources suffered considerable multiple manipulations, falsifications and distortions by editing. At the same time,
innumerable originals of ancient documents under various pretexts were destroyed in Europe under various pretexts.
The names of persons and geographical sites often changed meaning and location during the course of the centuries.
Geographical locations became clearly defined on maps only with the advent of printing.
This made possible the circulation of identical copies of the same map for purposes of the military, navigation, education and governance tasks.
Historians from Oxford say: "hey, everybody knows that Julius Caesar lived in the first century B.C.
`Julius Caesar' statement is only a point of view as
there is simply no irrefutable documentary proof that Julius Caesar or any other great name of antiquity ever existed.
Better than that - extremely rare sources that can be reliably dated back to the 10th-14th centuries A D, do not show the polished picture of classical history.
They show a picture both contradictory and confusing.
All methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts are erroneous:
Radio-carbon C14 method produces dating with exactitude of plus minus 1500 years, therefore it is too crude for dating of events in historical timeframe!
The Almagest tractate, which lies as corner stone contemporary chronology, compiled in the 2nd century A D by Ptolemy, the founding father of astronomy, contains astronomical data of 9th to 16th century!
The Bronze Age,that has supposedly began 5000 years ago. Bronze is made of 90% copper and 10% tin, but the technology for tin extraction dates back to 14th century A D!.
All eclipses contained in manuscripts, like Thucydides one, relating 'ancient' events have exclusively medieval dating. All horoscopes cut in stone or painted in Egyptian temples, like Dendera have exclusively early medieval dating solutions.
Not quite what you have learned in school? Open your eyes, and, you will find sufficient proof to reach step by step the inevitable conclusion that the classical chronology is false and therefore, that the history of ancient and medieval world universally accepted today, is also false. Have a fresh outlook on everything said or printed about "ancient" and "enigmatic" Roman, Greek and Egyptian, medieval as well as all other "lost and found" civilizations.
Antiquity and Dark Ages are phantoms invented in the 16th 18th and polished in 19th 20thcenturies. Human civilization is in fact barely 1000 years old!
This book will change your perception of History forever!
What if Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt were invented during Renaissance?
What if The Old Testament was a rendition of events of the Middle Ages?
What if Jesus Christ was born in 1053 and crucified in 1086 AD?
Sounds Unbelievable?
Not after you've read "History: Fiction or Science?" by Anatoly Fomenko, the genius mathematician.
Armed with astronomy and computers Anatoly Fomenko turns History into a rocket science.
Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

I love it!.......2006-02-22
I have searched for these two translations everywhere! Very hard to find....I found it here at a very reasonable price. It arrived promptly and in good shape. I am very satisfied...my only regret is that they don't have the soft/leather bound bible in these translations.
great bible.......2002-05-02
the text is a good size. These two versions go very well together. I have seen KJV with spanish RV, I have seen NIV with spanish RV, and I have seen this one NKJV with spanish RV. This bible is the best of the bilingual bibles I have.
The reason I say that is that KJV is hard to read, and NIV changes the scriptures, but NKJV is fairly easy to read and it goes well if you compare it to the spanish translation.
worth every penny

This recording by Samuel Montoya is in ENTIRELY in Spanish. It is read very prayerfully and well but is NOT dramatized. Some people prefer a dramatized version (i.e. you can hear the ocean waves when Jesus is asleep in the boat.) In that case, look at the recordings made in many languages by Faith Comes by Hearing Bible Recordings. You can also get just the New Testament read by Samuel Montoya on CD or cassette or just the Psalms. It is an EXCELLENT recording but NOT dramatized.

My review.......2001-02-10
The fist bible I had was an english ver. and i would go to a spanish speaking church. I had to translate everything the pastor said and it would slow me down and i would'nt understand what he was saying. Now I can read along with him. I can also talk to my family members in Mexico with out miss translating anything. This book is great for every one who is bilingual also if you want to learn spanish or english. Gotta have it!!!!

The best resource for learning Spanish........2004-11-15
If you are looking for a book that will thoroughly teach you both the grammar and idiomatic usage of Spanish, there is no better introduction than this. Even for the native speaker, this book is a great resource for learning why certain expressions not only 'feel' wrong but infact are incorrect in usage. The book's divisions make it slightly dry reading but if you persist and complete all of the exercises, you will notice a dramatic improvement in your Spanish. Whether you are a novice or a third-year college student of Spanish, this book will help you advance from conversational spanish to advanced constructions and expressions including the dreaded subjunctive. Enjoy!

Book Description

NIV Audio Biblia (Spanish Version).......2007-05-25
Arrived in a few days. Excellent quality. Excellent service!
Recomendable.......2006-03-30
It seems to me the recording engineer manipulated the recordings to remove the natural pauses a speaker makes for dramatic effect. Also, I think the engineer sped up the voice. I believe the engineer's goal was to make the recordings take less time, which may have saved a few CDs worth of time for the collection. Unfortunately, the removed pauses not only removes some of the drama in the reading, it also makes listening in general a little more tiresome. On the other hand, you can probably hear everything in about 20% less time because of the engineer's efforts. I've occasionally sped up a recording myself if I thought the reader paused too much, but in this case, I think it was done by a computer - something like, "if pause is greater than .2 seconds, make it only .2 seconds". The problem is that a computer is not an artist. Nonetheless, I plan to listen to these recordings a lot, and I believe they will come in handy with the NVI/NIV dual translation bible.
Simple.......2006-02-04
Aunque la portada dice totalmente orquestado, realmente no tiene música ni sonidos. Es solamente la voz del narrador. Sinceramente me pareció monótono.
