1 out of 5 stars Stop this nonsense!.......2007-10-01

This book is a P.O.S. The explanations are poor and confusing, I frequently find myself referring to other works for clarity, even on subjects I know well. Profs use this piece of trash because they are too lazy to make the migration to any of the many other better corporate finance books that are now available. Brigham checked out of the authorship business many years ago. This is now simply mechanical production from the Thomson machine.

1 out of 5 stars It's only a outline of the textbook.......2007-03-16

It likes a dictionary. It lists all the definition of the concepts. I recommend you to buy the textbook instead of this book. I have returned it.

I wasn't too impressed with this text. I found that many of the chapters were incredibly verbose, and seemed to confuse me even more in some instances. Perhaps one of the problems (obviously not Brigham's fault) was that my prof "wizzed" through some of these chapters, so reading the "wordy, never-ending" chapters was overwhelming. Further, I think that some concepts could have been more simplified, when instead Brigham seemed to ramble and "lost" me.

In short, I think some "academics" (profs, grad students, etc) might be impressed with the depth with which Brigham wrote. However, not all of the students are on the same level, and this must be taken into consideration when the author revises the text. We are using the text as a guide for learning, not as a means to evaluate the author's aptitude in the field of finance...

Book Description

It is well known that with a population of 1.3 billion people, China's market is moving quickly toward surpassing those of North America and Europe combined. Companies from the United States and around the globe are flocking there to buy, sell, manufacture, and create new products. But as former Wall Street Journal China bureau chief turned successful corporate executive James McGregor explains, business in China is conducted with a lot of subterfuge -- nothing is as it seems and nothing about doing business in China is easy.

Destined to become the bible for business people in China, One Billion Customers shows how to navigate the often treacherous waters of Chinese deal-making. Brilliantly written by an author who has lived in China for nearly two decades, the book reveals indispensable, street-smart strategies, tactics, and lessons for succeeding in the world's fastest growing consumer market.

Foreign companies rightly fear that Chinese partners, customers, or suppliers will steal their technology or trade secrets or simply pick their pockets. Testy relations between China's Communist leaders and the United States and other democracies can trap foreign companies in a political crossfire. McGregor has seen or experienced it all, and now he shares his insights into how China really works.

One Billion Customers maximizes the expansive knowledge of a respected journalist, well-known businessman, and ultimate China insider, offering compelling narratives of personalities, business deals, and lessons learned -- from Morgan Stanley's creation of a joint-venture Chinese investment bank to the pleasure dome of a smuggler whose $6 billion operation demonstrates how corruption greases the wheels of Chinese commerce. With nearly 100 strategies for conducting business in China, this unprecedented account combines practical lessons with the story of China's remarkable rise to power.

5 out of 5 stars Plane reading enroute to China...should be on all flights to PRC.......2007-07-15

James MacGegor has lived the ongoing business evolution in China personally. Drinking jia pi (draft beer)outside of the JianGuo Hotel on his fortieth birthday,he could see evidence of the volitivity of that evolution. To the west, on the face of the SCITE Building were the pock marked bullets holes ,reminders of June 1989. The JianGuo was serving fois gras and competing with Maxim's for customers and to the east ;the beginnings of the third and fourth ring road extension were being buildt .

He has seen and lived this explosive ,volitile growth personally, and has captured the important ,basic "do's and don't when in china" in this book .

In the 21st century, all businesses from Paris to Dundee to Peoria to Osaka need to deal with the reality of the China manufaturing platform. A company will either be a partner or competitor with China ---little in between; and the knowledge in this book is a good starting point in dealing with this worldwide paradigm shift called China

4 out of 5 stars A Business with China Must Read.......2007-06-07

Mr McGregor has a unique insight into the psyche of Chinese Entrepreneurs, Managers, Workers, and most importantly the "Powers that be" within the Government of China. His case studies of how things can go right as well as how things can go wrong provide the reader with a great road map as what TO do and what NOT to do while conducting business in China.
Excellent reference book for doing business with the soon to be biggest economy of the world.

4 out of 5 stars Doing Business in China.......2007-05-08

This is a very good book to give you a general overview of business practices in China. I had to buy it since it was required for one of my MBA classes and I did enjoy reading it.

5 out of 5 stars Insights into how modern China functions.......2007-04-06

This book is interesting and easily readable. A series of significant business ventures are described in enough detail to understand, but with the main focus on the forces that drive the events. The book helps the reader to see business ventures in China from the Chinese point of view. It seems to be written for senior executives that may be contemplating the establishment of business ventures in China. It will be interesting and useful also to readers who invest in Chinese companies or mutual funds, as well as to anyone who would like to understand more about how modern China functions.

The author, who speaks Mandarin, and who was previously the China Bureau Chief of the Wall Street Journal, is well connected at senior levels in Chinese business, political and media circles. He is able to gain insights and learn details about how and why things happen or do not happen in China. For example, Chinese government officials avoid individual responsibility for decisions, preferring the political safety of group decisions, so it is vital for western business people to establish relationships with more than one senior official. Each chapter ends with a short summary of lessons to be learned from the experiences of others doing business in China.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Primer for Westerner's Negotiating in China.......2007-03-24

Great insight into the Chinese mindset and value matrix, with a disected case study of the Morgan Stanley-CICC first investment bank that reads like a flowchart in avoiding trouble.

Also some interesting tidbits on China-US politics, who the author thinks had a good grasp on Int'l policy and who sold the US out.

5 out of 5 stars Even experienced sellers will learn something.......2007-07-08

I have bought and sold stuff online for years and this book still had useful information in it. It gives useful, specific sources for many different categories of eCommerce.
I have paid much more for courses and books from so called marketing experts that didn't have near as much information.
So often you will read or hear that you need to do this or that, but they never tell you the specific places that you can go to get it done.
The many different categories of selling advice would at first make you think that it just glosses over them but once you start to read you see that they are one of the strengths of this book... you just keep finding good advice to tweak and improve your online business.
From web site design and boosting traffic to credit card acceptance to keeping your customers happy or even legal advice for people just starting out, it's hard to name just one part that would be considered the best part of this book. Site security to even the basics of chosing a business name are covered.
It doesn't matter if you are only thinking about starting an online business or if you have various web sites and are an experienced eBay user, there will be something in here that will make you glad you bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent- From Basic info to More Advanced all in One!.......2007-06-18

This book was a real surprise. I fully expected to use it as a resource for new Ebay/Web commerce users that we help teach but found it excelled not only in the basics but in pretty much the whole plan of where you would want to be online in the long run. I am particulary fond of books that discuss legal and accounting set up and this one covers a lot of good info like type of organization, record keeping, copyrights and trademarks, a tax overview etc. A great foundation for the new online business. There is a lot of information regarding web site design, internet security and boosting your sales. Usually many books would leave off in this area but not this one. It has information on taking your retail business online , selling from a storefront and covers some important ideas like affiliate marketing and finding a niche. Whether deciding to operate on Ebay or with your own website this book is jam packed with information. Even as an experienced online user I found myself making notes from many of the sections in the book including those with suggestions on what to do to expand sales, deal with changes and other customer issues. Just as a note this is one huge book. Over 800 pages including the index and for the price a bargain. For Ebayers I would recommend this book and a general Ebay book as a package to buy. If working directly on your own e-commerce site I would recommend this book with with a web 2.0 or social marketing book.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Reference!.......2007-01-12

A wonderful reference to have at your desk. It truly is like having lots of books in 1 - 800+ pages!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good General Business Info.......2007-10-17

Mostly good stories of what a new business owner did that they needed to change to make their business work better. I think of this book as ideas to keep in mind when your new at this business world and too busy to think of everything you could do to improve your situation and increase profits. Good general info.

3 out of 5 stars A Good Book if You are a Budding Teenage Entrepreneur.......2006-06-30

Among the numerous books for starting your own business out in the marketplace, this one is pretty good for the right audience; that is, those who do not know the first thing about starting a business. While there is certainly a need for such books, I did not find it useful for me though. This book might make it onto the reading list for a high school business class, but beyond that I cannot see much value. But still, there are worse introductory books for entrepreneurs than this one. I'm still trying to find one that really delivers.

3 out of 5 stars Not a Critical Read .......2006-05-07

This book is entertaining only because it shows different viewpoints. But you won't really learn anything from the book, in terms of real entrepreneurial skills or knowledge. I would say it might be a book to read if you were going to buy 20 others but it certainly is by no means a critical read. It's more like something you would read wihile on a plane.

"The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs" (Stathis) is the best book I have found on the topic. If you want to know absolutely everything about the venture capital industry and how to develo the skills and knowledge that successful high-tech entrepreneurs need, get The Startup Company Bible.

3 out of 5 stars A very interesting book.......2006-04-29

When I bought this book I expected to be told a lot and in essence I have but I feel that there is more that the author could have said.
On the whole, I like the book. But I'd also like to recommend that readers pick up a copy of Untapped Wealth Discovered written by Jeff N Marquis and Kerry J Harrison.
This book is refreshing with fresh ideas and two fresh faced authors. It's amust read especially for women.

5 out of 5 stars Inspirational Secondary Reading For Those Thinking About Or Planning To Start A Business Venture.......2005-12-14

You should definitely go to the largest public library in your area and review the numerous business startup books that are available. If you feel a particular book is worth re-reading or to keep as a future reference, you should buy the latest edition of such a book. (Use the book's ISBN number to search online for the newest edition that is currently available.)

What you will get from this book:

This book will offer you inspirational stories divided into appropriate sections such as planning, funding, marketing and advertising. These are short stories of successful business owners interviewed or researched by the author, which consists of either: what the owners did right, what the owners did wrong, the challenges they had faced, and examples of how they would of had done something differently if given the chance to.

What you will not get from this book:

If you feel that, by reading stories of successful people will kick-start your creative engine, then spend the small amount that it costs to own this book. However, if you want information for "detailed" instructions on how to acquire loans and fundings, then this book will not help you.

With the handful of business startup books that I had borrowed and purchased, most of them do not offer any more information other than the basic explaination of places to request loans from. (Examples of funding resources are the SBA-Small Business Administration, Banks, Angel Investors, and Venture Capital Firms)

I recommend borrowing a copy of SBA Loans: A Step-By-Step Guide. - By Patrick D. O'Hara

For the 30 million business partners and co-owners, the essential guide for building, launching, and sustaining successful ventures.

In The Partnership Charter, psychologist and business mediation expert David Gage offers a comprehensive guide to the art of establishing and maintaining a business partnership. Illustrating every principle through engaging stories drawn from Gage's front-line experience consulting to business partners, as well as interviews with the founding partners of such successful businesses as Progressive Insurance Company and Manpower, Inc., The Partnership Charter dispels common myths and presents a practical framework for launching, building, and sustaining a thriving business partnership.

5 out of 5 stars A Practical Guide for Business Partnerships.......2007-02-08

This is a top-notch book - nicely written, smartly organized, and easy to follow and understand. It provides insightful information, telling case histories, useful checklists and exercises, and even includes a fully developed "Partnership Charter" in the appendix. Author David Gage offers an inside view of partnerships, and his case studies make the text a pleasure to read. More importantly, he shows you how to create a partnership charter that will function as your enterprise's Magna Carta in the years to come. If you are planning a partnership, we advise you to study this expert presentation first. You will save yourself a lot of trouble.

5 out of 5 stars Brett Netherton.......2007-01-05

This author has done a masterful job of presenting a topic that is not talked about enough. Partnerships are hard, but how to make them easier and better is a subject that needs to be taught and discussed much more. As an avid reader, this book has been more timely and helpful to me as a partner is a successful small business than any other book, hands down.

5 out of 5 stars Recommended to all of my clients.......2007-01-04

One of my clients referred me to this book, and I now recommend it to all of my small business clients. It is perfect for developing partnerships of any type, including business, strategic and personal partnerships. It has helped me frame my vision for a number of projects, and I will continue to refer to it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent! Real world and practical........2006-11-11

I've been regularly informed that its not a matter of if, but rather when your partnership will fail. David Gage starts out warning the reader about business partnerships and makes you take stock and check your head if really do need a partner or not. Ultimately, this book develops a framework for setting expectations and creating lines of communication up front for a sucessful long term partnership. The real-world examples, years of experience and clear, concise straight-up language makes this a great read. The unspoken expectations of a business partnership are no more! Buy this book and read it throughly.

5 out of 5 stars Off To A Good Start.......2006-11-06

This is an excellent book if you're thinking about forming a partnership (as I was.) It's all about communication, with yourself and with your prospective partner as you define your business and discuss your plan. Easy to read, logical, great tips. I used some of the topics in the book as part of an outline for discussion between my partner and I during a formal retreat we took before we opened our business. You don't have to read the whole book, just skim, but the basic premise of the book - communication - is solid advice.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great for the Entepreneur.......2007-08-13

This book is exactly what the title describes itself as: a theory and method of creating a one page proposal. It's best suited for the entepreneur pitching venture capitalists. I got some ideas from it, but wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped for what I needed. One thing I'd have liked would have been a job aid/chart with the section titles and brief highlight of what to include.

5 out of 5 stars Cut through the clutter. Get you proposal noticed and read........2007-08-07

It took just 2 hours hours to read. The instructions are simple (not simplistic) and easy to follow. The prescription will help you get your thinking clear. The one pager will get your message read and noticed. Decision makers - who are normally inundated with unstructured requests for their attention and support - will appreciate the format.

A range of examples show you how the concept has worked for the author and others.

3 out of 5 stars A perfect solution .......2007-03-02

I stumbled upon this at the Chicago Public Library. After reading it and returning it I didn't think much of it. For some reason, however, it stuck with me.

After Amazon delivered it I remembered why it stuck with me: the concept is perfect for putting down just the parts of an idea or project you need to remember and those you need to convey. It is perfect in its simplicity.

I use this format extensively and find that it helps both me and the reader stay focused on the key points. I highly recommend both the method and the book. This, Tom Sant's Persuasive Business Proposals and Powerful Proposals by David G. Pugh and Terry R. Bacon may be the only books on proposal anyone needs!

5 out of 5 stars Professional Proposals in One Concise Page!.......2006-12-12

Well, I'm done writing 10-15 page proposals that are just glanced thru. The One-Page Proposal provides a methodology to concisely present your complete proposal on one page. It saves you time in the proposal process and provides your potential client with a very focused proposal. I rate this one a winner and am now using this exclusively for client proposals. It works and it saves time!

3 out of 5 stars The 1-page concept is good, but this book is not so good..........2006-11-10

...unless you have very little business writing experience. The 1-page concept is valid, but this book and its examples are unimpressive (and sometimes dull, naive and self congratulating). Still, it might be worth a quick read for some of you, which is why I'll give it 3 stars. Note: I probably should have given it 2 stars since some of these other reviews are so over the top positive that to me they are not credible (I almost think they were written by shills).

5 out of 5 stars A must read for every entreprenuerial spirit!!.......2007-01-10

Half way into the book, I started shopping for studio and retail space. It will motivate you to be brave!!

3 out of 5 stars Beautiful Pictures; Great for an Upscale Boutique.......2006-08-26

The pictures alone almost make it worth purchasing this book. It is easy to read. The book is most useful for someone trying to start an upscale boutique (ideally clothing). If this is you, buy this book. The pictures and the ideas are very much worth it. This will be a great resource.

I was helping plan a semi-upscale souvenir shop and found the ideas only somewhat applicable. That said, there are a few guidelines that I found really useful. I made sure to photocopy those few pages for my reference.

5 out of 5 stars Well written, pratical advice, illustrative photos - Love this book!.......2005-07-04

I really love this book as it was a break from the word overloading of most business books. It had lovely colour pictures of actual products, services, interior designs, branding, packaging, etc. These illustrations backed up the information on building your small business.

The book is divided into 3 parts:

1. Getting Started - Government regulation; Keeping Records; Establishing credit; Dealing with vendors; Finding a Space; Negotiating; Security; Insurance

2. Planning For Success - Inventory; Setting prices; Merchandising and Display; Publicity and Advertising; the Internet

3. Dealing with People - Building Staff;p Training; Delegating; Problem solving; Expansion

I must stress that this book is an addition to your business collection; not a one-stop shop. This book does not provide the in-depth coverage of issues you'll need to start your business. But especially if you've got most of that already covered and you are looking for ideas or personal stories that can help to streamline your particular service, this is a great book to read. It is an easy, enjoyable to read plus beautiful to flip through and I got a ton of ideas. I can see myself coming back to this book again and again as I start my business.

Thanks Victoria Magazine.

Book Description

Owning a business has become almost as much a part of the American dream as owning a home, and it’s not uncommon for people to trade a safe, routine job for the uncertainty of being one’s own boss. It not only takes hard work, persistence, and sacrifice – it takes business capital.

In What No One Ever Tells You About Financing Your Business, Jan Norman not only explores multiple means for owners and entrepreneurs to acquire business capital, but also covers the ""universal tool"" - writing the business plan. Norman includes insights from 101 successful entrepreneurs on obtaining financing, sharing with readers their experiences, techniques, and advice gained in the trenches.

From these recaps, both owners and entrepreneurs will learn:

• Borrowing options and alternatives beyond using savings or help from family and friends

• Creative ways to keep the business capital flow on-going past start-up stages and the need to use the right financial tools for monitoring

• How to build effective business relationships, vital in obtaining capital because ""people do business with people they know and trust""

• Practices that even the most successful business owners use ""to stay ahead of the money search""

5 out of 5 stars This book provides real-life examples of how startups get started and find the money needed to get started........2007-07-18

This was a wonderful book. It covers the basics as far as the options one has when planning to start a small business. Do you draw from your savings? Do you tap on family and friends? Do you mortgage your home? Or do you visit a bank and beg for some money?

The simple truth of the matter is that there are no free lunches in this world. Starting a business is very similar to buying a car or a house. You can pay for it with cash savings. Or you can put up collateral and borrow the money you need to pay for it. SBA doesn't make bank loans - they guarantee some of them. So don't think the SBA is going to do much for you when it comes time to start your small business.

This book covers financing the startup and financing the proven venture. And it does it very well. I loved the part about how business plans will explain how much capital (money) your business needs AND CAN REPAY. This is why banks and other lenders or investors will want to see the business plan you put together for your business venture.

I also thought it was good that the author pointed out that lenders and investors rely somewhat heavily on your leadership ability when determining if your company is likely to succeed. Said another way, they will rate you as a leader when evaluating whether your business plan is good. Good plans get money. Poor ones don't.

Take a look at the Table of Contents for this book. You'll see that the book covers all the bases when it comes to financing your own business. Well done. 5 stars!

4 out of 5 stars Decent Advice, But Perhaps Not the Advice You Need.......2006-08-03

The author deserves credit for interviewing all these entrepreneurs and conveying their stories and lessons learned in a clear style. Nonetheless, I found little of value here. I'm not sure exactly why. In part it's because I had heard most of it before. But in a more fundamental way the notion of relying on the advice of successful practitioners carries with it a positive bias that proves less than helpful to struggling entrepreneurs. Her former venture capitalist who founds a financial services company, for instance, has a huge advantage in financial expertise and contacts over most of us. So it's not surprising that his new venture succeeds in raising money.

What many entrepreneurs need, in contrast, is advice on how to overcome their very difficult circumstances, including personal shortcomings and destitution. So actually lessons learned from accounts of semi-competent entrepreneurs' failures to obtain financing could prove more realistic and valuable. Most of us are semi-competent at best! And of course entrepreneurs starting up innovative tech product ventures face an altogether more challenging and even forbidding set of obstacles to raising money than those launching a new flower shop or bookkeeping service. The simpler a challenge your business represents, the more helpful this book manages to be.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, and 101 means 101.......2005-09-30

I can attest to the fact that author Jan Norman interviewed each of 101 different individuals quoted in this book in the course of researching and writing it.

Indeed, she talked to many more than that, just as she had for her other books in the series: "What No One Ever Tells You About Starting Your Own Business," "What No One Ever Tells You About Marketing Your Own Business" and the next one in the series which will be out in early 2006, "What No One Ever Tells You About Franchising."

The interviews were detailed, often grueling work and always time-consuming, but invaluable for readers. Each of the 101 persons interviewed for each of Jan's books has a unique story to tell, and her books have shared those stories with countless others.

This series of books published by Upstart, a division of Dearborn Publishing, finds its greatest value in the very diversity of the experiences represented by the 101 individuals in each book. For the reader, it is an opportunity not to read some self-anointed "expert" author's solitary opinion, but instead read the real-life experiences of 101 people who have been there and done that.

Each book is a compilation of 101 mistakes and/or successes that others learned from, and that readers can learn from vicariously, then apply to their own entrepreneurial efforts.

5 out of 5 stars Ms. Norman Knows What She is Talking About.......2005-09-04

I don't know if the author really talked to 101 successful entrepreneurs or not. I suspect not. Instead, this book might better be sub-titled 101 tips on financing a business.

There are people who simply have to run their own business. It's a lot easier to work for someone else, just show up on time, work reasonably hard, go home a little bit later than most prople and so on. Some of us have a very hard time doing that.

I've started several businesses over the years. Each one has been more successful than the one before. Experience has taught me several things. And I'm going to use that experience to comment on some of her 101 tips.

Tip #1 - Do a business plan. There are several software programs that are almost fill in the blank. Get one and fill in the blanks. Even if you never show this plan to anyone else, it will force you to think through your whole business.

Tip #7 - Start on a Shoestring. It is much easier to get money to expand a business than it is to get money to start from scratch.

Re a bunch of Tips on borrowing money - Don't. It has to be paid back. Unless you are very, very certain that you can pay it back in a very short time - DON'T!

Tip 46-48 - Yes, yes, a hundred times YES!. Live cheaply. Don't buy the big car, big house, whatever.

Tips 77-80 - Government Programs. Forget them, they aren't worth the time they take.

Tips on venture capital and going public. This is a basic business decision. Do you want to run a small business or create a public company that you can get out of?

This lady understands what she is writing about. But keep in mind that you are talking about your business, your ideas, your future. Read a book on business.
Get a business started.

If it works great. If it doesn't, get a job for a while, start another one in your part time using what you learned from the failure of the first one.

More than two decades ago, when former Wall Street portfolio analyst Judith H. McQuown first sat down to write the inaugural edition of Inc. Yourself, the incorporation of a small company was a fairly simple procedure undertaken by relatively few refugees from the then-burgeoning safe haven of big-time corporate America. But while the appeal and the underlying need for striking out on one's own have increased markedly in the interim, the continual passage of major tax-law changes has ensured that incorporation is no longer such an uncomplicated process. Accordingly, in this ninth edition of her bestselling primer, McQuown still outlines the core information necessary to turn any enterprise into a separate legal entity replete with all of the rights, privileges, and liabilities that such a move entails. But she also updates those suggestions for today's small businesses whenever appropriate, and bolsters them with important details on newly available options for pension plans, organizing the venture, and sheltering its income from taxation. --Howard Rothman

Book Description

Remember: The passage of the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 renders all previous editions of Inc. Yourself obsolete, making this the most current book available today.

Inc. Yourself is the longest-selling business book in continuous print in the history of trade publishing. Since 1977, it has sold more than 500,000 copies to date. For 25 years, it has helped entrepreneurs, small-business owners, and professionals save thousands of dollars a year by incorporating.

More than 1.5 million Americans are expected to start their own businesses in 2002. This "entrepreneurial classic" (CNBC) is now completely revised and updated to help new and recent entrepreneurs—many of whom are Fortune 500 downsizing casualties.

Written in clear, easy-to-understand language, Inc. Yourself is a no-nonsense, step-by-step guide to success. Inc. Yourself provides meticulously researched information on the latest tax laws and legislation that affect individuals and small businesses. The following are just a few of the critical issues covered:

• Selecting the right type of corporation for your business or profession.

• Having your office home or away.

• Designing the right pension plan.

• Investing your corporate surplus.

• Choosing the best benefits for your needs.

5 out of 5 stars Great information on How To Incorporate.......2004-03-05

This is one of the top three books on how to start your business and incorporate with the other two being Loopholes of the Rich and Rich Dad's Advisors: Own Your Own Corporation.

Another would be How To Incorporate in Any State: Everything You Need To Form a Corporation by W. Dean Brown.

On S Corporations, the best book I have found is S-Corporations by Robert Cooke.

Everyone that I know who is successfu in business is recommending these books. And for good reason, they work and are written by people who have actually been in the trenches and speak from experience.

Beware of certain [some] self publishers who have never had any real business experience and merely plagerizing the better authors such as those mentioned above.

5 out of 5 stars An essential first read in starting your corporation.......2004-03-05

Before starting my business, I consulted with several successful business people that I knew. Aside from getting some great advice, all recommended this book as a essential first read before starting my corporation.

Now that I have read it, I agree and wholeheartily recommend it to anyone who wants to start a business and their corporation, correctly.

5 out of 5 stars A good book to help you set up your corporation.......2004-03-05

I read the 8th edition of this book and got a great deal from it. Loaned it out, never got it back so back the newest edition. This is the book everyone else is copying. It's the best. Complete with forms and charts to help you get your corporation going.

I also recommend Form Your Own Corporation and Launch a Business in Any State and the Small Business Legal Kit, both by J.W. Dicks and Inc. and Grow Rich by C.W.Allen.

CAUTION: There are several books being put out by self publishers. These, some anyway are being promoted by paper tigers i.e. people who are writers only and have no real world experience. Much is outdated and the best of what they offer is in good quality books like this one and the others mentioned above.

Goff luck withyour business.

5 out of 5 stars Lot's of good information in this book.......2004-01-03

Inc. Yourself provides a vast wealth of information on incorporating, the benefits you can get and why. Inc. Yourself is an easy read....pretty straightforward.

The fact that Inc. Yourself is now in it's 9th printing with more than 500,000 copies in print should tell you something about the great work done by Judith McQuown and the popularity of this great work.

As a companion to Inc. Yourself, You'll want to pick up a copy of Launch Business and Incorporate in Any State by J.W. Dicks and/or How To Incorporate in Any State by Brown.

This book deserves a solid five star rating and is highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The Bible of Incorporating your business.......2004-01-03

I have read many books, talked to a lot of friends who started their own corporation and searched internet for tips. Without a doubt, Inc. Yourself is the "Bible" of Incorporating your business. Everyone that I know who is successful recommends this book. It is outstanding and will give you all the information you need to set up your corporation properly.

I want to caution you on the internet. There is some really bad advice with some people using the internet to hype their own books. Talk to someone you know who is in business. Check your local library and bookstore. HINT: If the book isn't available in the bookstores or your local library, it probably isn't worth your time.

If someone you know is a successful business person doesn't recognize a author, chances are the author is just a "paper tiger" with no real world experience.

I have not spoken with anyone who has not heard of Judith McQuown and everyone highly recommends her book.
