Book Description
Magic Moments is a collection of texts and images reflecting opinions and insights of artists working on creative projects with young people. It examines their motives and working processes, evaluating the importance of art as an instrument of social change. The book spans projects from the late 1960s to the present day and demonstrates how work with young people has often been central for many artists and is becoming increasingly legitimate as a field of practice.

interesting and worthwhile, the title says it all.......2003-12-17
As the title states, this is a book about making people talk. Barry Farber is a well known radio host who has interviewed some of the most important people in America and this book is his "self-help" book on how to make people talk. Like many other conversation books, this one is about (mostly) speaking to people you do not know very well. Farber takes a different approach to this and also talks about why you want to cultivate both friendships as well as casual relationships with many people. It is about what they can do for you. Farber explains that this is not a cold, callous way to look at it, because if you cultivate a relationship by talking, people will want to help you out if they are able (they may be able to help you get a job, give you advise, help with a promotion, get choice basketball tickets, etc). Farber also notes that some people who you initially are speaking with because of their potential value to you may become a better friend than those you have grown up with. Farber also writes that it is everyone who you should improving your communications with and making them feel that what they have to say is important.
This book is written with many anecdotes from Barry Farber's life to illustrate the point he is making, and it was much more interesting than I expected. This is not a dry explanation on how to better make people talk, but an engaging book. Farber does not suggest that this will be easy, but only that it is worthwhile to be able to make people talk.

a great sequal to the shadow trap! definetly recommended to all ages! anakin and obi-wan go on a misson to the planet vanqor. anakin feels responsible for yaddle's death, and obi-wan no longer trusts him. will they ever trust each other again? read to find out!
The gap widens between Obi and Anakin.......2004-11-09
This was an excellent book for those following the Obi/Anikan rift that just seems to deepen. to me the highlight of this book is when we get to see what happend to Obi-Wan when he fell into that nest of Gundarks that he refers to in Episode II.
The in this book was that Zan Arbor shows up, still up to her medicical misdeeds as she creats what is called "Zone of Self-Containment" in which Anakin finds himself trapped in.
I must admit this book is not as "clift hanging" as most of Jude Watsons books are...but it is very very enjoyable..and does build to the JQ #8
A definate "must" for lovers of "Jedi Quest"
great insight.......2004-01-12
this book gives a great insight into the relationship of Obi-Wan and Anakin. It also shows the stress that Anakin is going through being the Chosen One.

Book Description
In Latin American culture with its blend of Indian, Spanish, Catholic, and African influence magic is a part of the everyday world. Momentos mA-gicos, or magic moments, can come in many forms. For storyteller Olga Loya, magic occurs every time an ancient story is passed from teller to listener. The sixteen stories here are full of momentos mA-gicos. Presented in equally vibrant English and Spanish, they include stories of the supernatural, such as the Mexican tale of La Llorona, the ....

Perfect for learning and reviewing!.......2007-03-04
This wonderful collection of short stories is ideal for either learning Spanish for the first time, or, as in my case, reviewing the language over 20 years after first studying it. The stories are interesting, with a mixture of commonly-used words and unusual ones. Having both Spanish and English versions side by side makes it very easy to go back and forth to check the meanings of unfamiliar words. I love it!
A must have in your library.......2003-08-20
This compilation of Latin-American folktales is very interesting for young and old alike. This book, along with Drum, Chavi, Drum! (by Mayra L. Dole) and Trinos Choice (by Diane Gonzales Bertrand), are the three best books I have read this year.
Marvelous stories for read-alouds.......2000-08-09
This marvelous collection of folk tales from Latin America works beautifully for read-alouds to children from ages 8 up. Each tale is included in both English and Spanish version, with varieties such as "horror" stories, stories of magic and others. My students have especially enjoyed "The Flying Skeleton" [El esqueleto volador] and "The Rooster's Claw" [Pata del gallo], a particularly delightfully grim variation of "The Monkey's Paw." Highly recommended

3 & 1/2 stars; imperfect but good.......2005-02-27
This is my first book by Patricia Rice. It was good enough that I'll try more, probably from this series, but it took me some time to become comfortable with the world she had created. perhaps reading the previous books in the series first might have made a difference.
Christina is a likeable, quirky heroine, albeit rather spoiled and selfish early on. She learns, however, and does some growing up over the course of the book. Harry is a great hero--a happy-go-lucky, even-tempered man who becomes sullen and tempermental after the dukedom and penury are forced upon him. Christina brings humor and joy to his life, and through her and the discovery of the truth about his situation, Harry begins to revert to his loveable, but now more responsible, self.
The book is humorous and interesting, with some ghosts acting as important secondary characters. Christina's family is something as well. There's s bit of suspense with a murderer on the loose. All in all, a very good book. Had I been more comfortable, rather than feeling like I was floundering, early in the book, I might have rated it 4 stars.
Wow! My First Patricia Rice Read!.......2004-08-21
Wow, wow, wow is all I can say. I normally don't read historical romance, but this one came up as book of the month for a reading club I belong to. After reading this, I have ordered the rest of the Magic Series right here at Amazon!
This story revolves around Christina Malcom, a woman who can read auras around people, and can see and talk to ghosts. She is betrothed at a young age to Harry Winchester who as a young man is suddendly thrust into the role of Duke of Sommerville after the mysterious death of his father and brother. He finds out that his father left the estate heavily in debt, and to begin digging out of it, he marries Christina before their agreed upon date to get her dowry to make a down payment on the mortgage he father had supposedly taken out to finance his constant building on their Sommerville manor.
When he whisks Christina away to the manor, there are secret passages, ghosts in mirrors, and all kinds of supernatural things happening...or are there???
A great read...I couldn't put it down. Taking 7 hours out to sleep, and 7.5 hours to work, I read this 376 page book in a space of 24 hours! Worth the time investment!
exhilarating paranormal Georgian romance .......2004-08-03
In the latter half of the eighteenth century, as a second son Lord Harry never expected to inherit the estate, but when his father and his older brother die in a brutal accidental fall, he becomes the duke of Sommersville. He also is bequeathed with a large debt and the probability that the estate will go to the major marker holder the odious Carthage. A desperate Harry knows that his hedonistic lifestyle is over and he must marry his long time fiancée the lovely, wealthy, but odd Christina Malcolm Childe if he is to save the estate.
Christina can see ghosts and read auras. She is horrified that her beloved Harry has gone from the wonderful happy yellow and purple to the detestable brown and blue. She agrees to wed Harry, but insists he give her time to adapt because she plans to find the Harry she loves not this angry shell. As she begins to save Harry's soul and he recognizes how much he loves Christina, treachery will leave both on the brink of death unless Harry heeds her advice received from his loved ones in the beyond.
THIS MAGIC MOMENT is an exhilarating paranormal Georgian romance starring a hurting venomous male and a fabulous heroine risking all for her love. Though the villain seems unlikely, Christina makes the tale with her ESP skills and her heroics. Fans of Ms. Rice's "magical" tales know that this awesome author always provides all a reader wants in a novel.

This Magic Tale.......2007-04-08
This Magic Moment brings you the story of Pierce Atkins, a magician, and Ryan Swan, the producer of his live television special. Ryan is a strong, independent woman, yet left vulnerable from her past and her relationship with her father. Pierce is a loner with his own eccentricities and scarred past. When these two meet there is an undercurrent of attraction that is just waiting to explode...and explode it does! Together Pierce and Ryan bring sparks of passion and moments of loving tenderness. Their feelings and actions ring true to who they are and their story is more then completely satisfying. You almost don't want it to end, you get to love these characters so much. Link and Bess are two enchanting secondary characters that I would have enjoyed reading about in their own book, but I enjoyed the way it turned out. Nora Roberts weaves her magic in this tale written in the '80's that still feels modern and not at all dated. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend any Nora fan to see for themselves and enjoy the magic!
Magic? More of an Illusion.......2005-04-08
This earlier attempt by Nora Roberts just misses the mark of excellence, and falls to below average. It seems as if she's not sure the direction she wants this book to take and the results are not up to what I've come to expect from this fantastic author.
Pierce is a mysterious magician who not only keeps his performance secrets closed from everyone, but he also closes everybody out from his personal life. Ryan comes into his life and not only shatters that wall of privacy Pierce has built around himself, but worms her way into his heart as well.
While reading this, I had mental visions of David Copperfield crossed with a modern-day mad scientist living in a dark, remote castle. The characters and scenes seemed to evoke images of other stories we've all read sometime in our youth. One example is the Great Houdini Escape illusion that so many have tried and failed to complete. Another example is the dark castle with Igor as Frankenstein's only true friend - yep, there's a couple of scenes that reminded me of these taken from long ago movies and books. These occurrences are included in the story and unfortunately are done so with no flare or vigorous changes. They left me feeling "been there, done that".
If you're looking for a feel good romance with little or no originality then you'll love this book. If you're looking for something new and dynamic then steer clear of this one! I'd only recommend this for those needing to finish a book and say, "Ah, wasn't that nice..."
Not her best work.......2004-03-06
While I did enjoy "This Magic Moment", I found it to be a bit boring compared to some of NR other offerings. Ryan and Pierce were not as exciting as some of her other characters, but it was a good read for the most part.
Intriguing "Roarke-like" Magician Makes This Book Great!.......2002-03-07
Ryan Swan (the book's lovely heroine), is a television producer hoping to sign the mysterious magician Pierce Atkins to do a live magic show. He agrees, but only if she handles the details herself, meaning lots of quality time together. The character of Pierce reminds me strongly of Roarke in Nora's other series, the J.D. Robb books. Like Roarke, Pierce has had a hard knock life and he has a very mysterious quality too. Pierce and Ryan's relationship is troubled because of the dangerous stunts he performs in his act, but Pierce refuses to give them up.
Excerpt from the back of the book:
"Abracadabra! For this one moment, Ryan Swan, you will believe in magic... If only she could. But how was Ryan ever to know if the love of mysterious magician Pierce Atkins was real enough to last a lifetime or just an illusion she'd conjured up herself? She'd just have to read the message in his eyes...
Pierce had a lot of tricks up his sleeve-and he needed all his skill in magic to get his message across to skeptical Ryan. But a message of love has a powerful magic all its own..."
Book Description
Few parents can resist the urge to photograph every adorable stage of their children's lives, but most do it more lovingly than well. No matter how doting they are, too often the results are blurry, overexposed, and uninspired snapshots. Guide to Photographing Children offers practical, detailed unintimidating advice to help transform parents' enthusiasm into memorable photographs that capture the child's own distinctive spirit (and involve the child in the process). After gently guiding the amateur photographer through such technical basics as which camera, film and exposure to use, the authors offer specific suggestions for shooting indoors and out, as well as invaluable advice on working with children at each age (useful words of wisdom: respect the child's moods and don't always demand a smile).
The book concludes with handy information about how to get the best work out of the photofinisher, even if it's just the local one-hour mini-lab, plus ideas for scrapbooks and other projects geared to putting the photos to good use. Throughout, sidebars offer additional help on everything from film speeds to "smile getters," and the 200 photographs provide clear examples of what --and what not-- to do when photographing children of every age and temperament.
Includes over 200 photographs.

Any general-interest collection catering to parents or amateur photographers will find this a popular choice........2007-07-27
Parents love to take photos of kids, but too often the results are blurry and amateur. HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH CHILDREN: SECRETS FOR CAPTURING CHILDHOOD'S MAGIC MOMENTS is newly revised and updated and includes a new chapter on the latest digital photography trends, providing parents with clear advice on how to shoot indoors and out, and how to work with children at different age levels. Especially invaluable are series shots that explain the pros and cons of different techniques. Parents will find these examples lead to a better understanding of not just how to shoot better pictures, but the elements that make for a superior composition. Any general-interest collection catering to parents or amateur photographers will find this a popular choice.

An Excellent Book.......2005-11-28
This is a nicely done book by Lisa Jane and Rick Staudt. If you have children to photograph and already understand the basics of photography, this is the book you should have. The photography is outstanding from both a technical and artistic standpoint. And, the ideas for making memorable photos are excellent.
An especially nice feature of this book is that it does not contain an excessive amount of technical information. It's more about impact and emotion (some call it vision) of the photos. This is a nice change from the typical book on photography which usually places the emphasis on the technical side of photography.
The only aspect about of the book of which the reader should be aware is the inclusion of several very high quality images that apparently were taken with a medium format camera and high-quality studio lighting. Because of this, an amateur photographer using a 35mm SLR camera (the typical situation for which this book apparently was written) might be given some false expectations about what is possible with their own equipment.
The above situation brings up an issue that I have with many photography books (most of which, incidentally, are not worth the paper upon which they're printed). This is the use of mostly medium- or large-format images in a book written for the 35mm SLR crowd. Apparently, the authors and publishers like to direct their books towards these people because this is the audience that can provide the largest volume in book sales. At the same time, however, their books incorporate mostly images taken with, for example, a 4x5 view camera, color transparancy film and a $2000+ lens. After all, great-looking images also helps to sell books! Flipping through the pages, the unfortunate reader is given the false impression that he'll be able to learn how to make the same type of wonderful, high-quality images after buying and reading the book. Unbeknownst to the reader, however, is the fact that those photos where not made with a 35mm SLR camera! And, no matter what brand of 35mm camera the reader uses (especially if equipped with a zoom telephoto lens and loaded with 400 speed color negative film) the image quality they can obtain will never begin to approach the clarity, sharpness and impact of those presented in the book they just bought!
Absolutely Wonderful.......2005-11-17
This book was more than I had hoped. I bought it from another Amazon member and was pleasantly pleased at the response and customer service (having never bought from an individual online before).
When the book arrived I could not put it down. It was filled with great information and tips on photographing children as well as BEAUTIFUL photos. The photos were not only great shots of children, but also provided some posing samples to use as well.
I love this book and wish I could find more like it on adult posing.
Great for amateurs, useful for all subjects.......2005-08-24
This is an easy to read and useful book if you're either a parent trying to get good pictures of your children, or an aspiring photographer. It covers a wide range of topics such as lighting, props, location, equipment, etc. After reading this I find myself much more able to critique other's work because I feel I have a better idea of what goes into taking a good portrait. The tips in the book, as the authors even state, are applicable to adult subjects as well. I will say though, that the information is probably a little too low level for anyone who is already doing professional photography.
Some good tips but too cute.......2005-05-04
There were some good tips here (lighting angles for one) but almost every example picture involving a girl had her dressed up as a fairy. Just too sugary cute, it would be nice to have good studio/candid examples of children dressed normally!
