Customer Reviews:
I would have given this book five stars, had I ever read it........2007-01-10
Gods do not want me to know what Dale Carnegie wrote in his book. First time I ordered it, the dimwits from the post office lost the package. By the time that fact became firmly established, Amazon did not have any more copies in stock and issued a refund. I ordered then from one of the Amazon sellers, but few weeks later got another refund. And today, I have received an e-mail, asking me to review few earlier purchases, including this book. The e-mail had a convenient link to the reviewer's page. So, here you go: happy to oblige!
A good read but..........2006-11-03
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was amazing how relevent it still is and how little people truely have changed. This book is a must read. The only complaint I have which prevents me from giving this book a 5 star rating is; a few sermons scattered mostly towards the end of the book. I really didn't appreciate them. After a person gets past this I would recomend this book, and have recomended it to friends with the cautionary comment about the 'sermons'.
New Title Suggestion: How to get laid in 60 minutes........2003-03-26
The very first time I applied these techniques in a bar, I simultaneously made out with 2 gorgeous women. This book has changed my life... What more can I say?
There are, however, some points that must be cleared up before you apply the techniques within this guide.
1.In many cultures, it is considered rude to ask personal questions of a relative stranger. (ex: "what do you do for a living.")
2.In today's legal environment, you may be held liable if you begin an argument by telling your opponent they are correct. (Ex: saying "I'm sorry" at a traffic accident.)
A must have.......2002-09-08
This book was written in the early 1900s and still is very effective today. I found this book to be essentially "priceless". Whatever I describe here would not do justice to what this book deserves.
Believe the other reviews, I bought this book based on them and am very glad I did. Very easy to read, very long but something you do not want to put down.
I may be wrong but let us examine the facts.......2002-01-22
You know this book only got a 4.5 rating which made me curiuos. After scaning through all the review, i found that some actually gives the lowest rating there is to the book. I was upset.
Still it was no surprise that they don't like it. You cannot satify everyone. But then some of this reviews does sound misleading which in turn gets on my nerve.
I mean how many times do you come across a book that does exactly as what its title said? Tecnical book maybe, but self-helps? And how many self-help that put a title so bold as this one in the first place? The thing is,this book delivers. You might have to apply it constantly to be good at it and sometimes it might even be difficult but it delivers.(it takes time)
The other thing is this book doesn't teach you to lie or decipt. Although some may do that after reading the book but then it's not because the book teaches them to be evil, only simply because they are unethical. It is like saying cloning is bad because poeple can use the technology to create an army of super human. Like science, the book doesn't tell how to use your knowledge but only tells you how to do it.
Sincerity. The book does to emphasize on it in order to not confuse its principles as evil. So, why does people still get confuse? As I understand, the defination of sincerity (in virtue terms) means performing something like helping other people
or giving something away with hoping for reward or anything else in return.
So does winning friends. You may become popular or well liked but don't hope for anything in return if you are sincere. It is because of people hoping for too much when applying this principles that they gives 1 star for the book. -sigh-
The other thing I was upset are reviews that like the book but doesn't gives full star for it. Why? Don't they realised that there is no other book like this one?(ok there is another one) Dale Carnegie wrote self-help like how it should be written:
1. Include priciples of successful people.(two years research)
2. 8 years of research through experience of thousands of people.
3. No "the best way to [insert action] for me is this, this, this and so I hope you would follow my style of doing things".
4. An introduction that says "Why do I bother to write another book, and after I have written it, why would you evenbother to read it. Fair question and I shall try to answer them both..."
As Carnegie himself said, this book is not born out of the ivory tower. If you think that there is a better way to write a self-help book, tell me and then find a book that is written that way. Betcha can't.

Deepak Chopra’s best-selling guide to creating abundance and prosperity is now on CD and read by the author. Based on seven natural laws that govern all creation, this book shatters the myth that success results only from hard work, exacting plans, and driving ambition. Deepak Chopra offers a life-altering perspective on attaining success: Once we understand our true nature and learn to live in harmony with these natural laws, well-being, good health, fulfilling relationships, energy and enthusiasm for life, and material abundance can be achieved. Simple yet profound, the book’s timeless wisdom and practical steps can be applied with surprisingly quick results. “A must-read for anyone who missed The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran.” — The New York Times
Customer Reviews:
Spiritualism.......2007-10-22
This is a pocketbook guide--about the size of a 4" x 6" photo with 96 pages, so it's a quick read. You could slip it in your pocket (guys) or purse (ladies) and take it with you on the bus, to the office lunchroom, or wherever and you will probably want to re-read it many times. Introductory comments claim that "within its pages are the secrets to making all your dreams come true. It is based on natural laws that govern all of creation. . . " They also claim that "these are the same principles that nature uses to create everything in material existence".
The natural laws/The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success are listed as:
1) The Law of Pure Potentiality--our essential state is pure consciousness with all possibilities and infinite creativity and is not separate from our spiritual essence. Mr. Chopra explains what the Law means in several pages and then summarizes with how you can experience the Law [the correct way]. In this instance, you can experience this Law by 1) connecting with your spirit daily, as in meditation, 2) practicing being nonjudgmental and 3) communing with nature.
2) The Law of Giving and Receiving--giving and receiving is about the flow and exchange of energies. Give love if you expect to receive love, and so on. Give freely with an open heart. Giving does not have to monetary.
3) The Law of Karma or Cause and Effect--action and the consequence(s) of that action--conscious choice-making. Make choices that will bring happiness.
4) The Law of Least Effort--our actions should be motivated by love, not by power and control. Accept people as they are.
5) The Law of Intention and Desire--within every desire are the mechanics for its fulfillment
6) The Law of Detachment--give up our attachment to the outcome of our desires. Attachment is based on insecurity and fear
7) The Law of Dharma or Purpose in Life--we are spiritual beings who have taken on physical form to fulfill a purpose and to serve others with that purpose
Of course, there is far more in this booklet than my quickie review of it. As explained in number 1, above, Mr. Chopra gives a detailed explanation of each Law, then explains the proper way to experience the Law. I believe this to be an excellent little book with really good information. You will find many of today's respected spiritual authors talking about the same concepts, because, as I believe, these concepts are right on target. Living these concepts and working with your spirituality can help provide you a great deal of joy and peace.

Aj.......2007-10-13
This book just blows off the definition of what I assumed on success.
It gives a new way to look at life and for what purpose we are here for.
This is a must text for all just when they start in their adult life.
Not all are as lucky as Deepak Chopra to have parents to have instilled
those values as this parents did
A solid read for those embarking on the spiritual path.......2007-10-10
This book is a solid read for any person embarking on the path of self-discovery. It summarizes a group of spiritual laws that Chopra identifies as being key aspects in one's ability to fulfill their dreams. It essentially provides a foundation for further study as opposed to being a comprehensive self-help/development manual. One caution for anyone who is new to this "path," is that some of the content might be a bit farther out on the metaphysical curve than you've experienced previously, and particularly so if you're coming from a rather traditional religious perspective.
Feel Good.......2007-10-09
This a great, easy read. This is the type of book you can read over and over and you get something different from it every time. It's a great read for relieving stress and becoming inspired. I think everyone should read this book at least once.
An Idea That Did Not Need to Happen.......2007-10-05
When I purchased this book, I thought it was simply a new edition of the original book of the same title. After all, why would it be necessary to "ABRIDGE" a 111-page book? Anyway, I ordered 12 copies of it as I was using it for a class. Only too late did I discover it was a shortened version of the original masterpiece (and Amazon would not exchange it for what I wanted). I suppose the book was reissued in this format as part of a new marketing effort associated with the DVD movie of the same name.
Whatever the reason, there is no need to buy this instead of the original title --which is a jewel for anyone's library!

Customer Reviews:
Great tool to get you started!.......2007-01-09
This book is a great rescource for anyone who is looking to start a professional pet sitting service. It's easy to read and has lot's of good information.
pet sitting business.......2006-11-04
I thought the book was excellent. I loved her style, not too dry, very humorous. It was a very quick easy read, and had great ideas for starting a new business. Lots of help and references. The best book I've read on the topic. I'm brand new in the business and I based my business planning on her book. I also had the opportunity to meet the author, and she is a great person, very helpful. I highly recommend it.
Pet Sitting for Profit.......2006-07-22
This is the Third Edition of an excellent book on the business aspects of pet sitting. Author Patti Moran is one of the pioneers in this field and she provides a wealth of useful information. Be aware that this information is primarily for business aspects of pet sitting - guiding you through everything from phone lines to forms. It does NOT provide information on pet care - assuming that you are already somewhat competent since you are itnerested in this field.
Filled with "real life" experience, Ms Moran covers office procedures, insurance, advertising and marketing.
The chapter on Getting Started will be extremely useful for someone starting up a pet sitting business with a work force of one - namely you :) Much of the rest of the book is geared for the pet sitting business that has expanded to multiple employees. Still, that is an area where many dog businesses fail - right when they expand.
This book is an excellent resource for anyone with a dog business. Much of the businees savvy advice could apply to any dog themed business.
This book is well worth its price for the budding entrepeneur
An okay guide -- but not the ONLY one to have in your arsenal.......2006-02-27
First, a full disclosure -- I run my own pet-sitting business and I'm a happy, paid member of Patti's organization, Pet Sitters Internaitonal (PSI). She's a good business woman who had the sense to get out of the industry and create alliances to help those in the industry. Second disclosure, I run an organization geared directly toward helping petsitters start and run a successful business so that they can enjoy their life, work with great clients and retire happy.
Now, onto the review. I bought this book about 6 months after I started sitting full-time. I had already bought, read and devoured Lori and Scott Mangold's book.
This book was a disappointment to me -- it had been touted for so long by so many that I know and respect as THE BIBLE of pet-sitting. So, I guess I was expecting fireworks and drumrolls. None of that is here.
It's basic. It's not quite a how-to and definitely not the Complete Manual for Professional Success. But then, a complete manual would need to be much larger and more expensive.
There are alot of ambiguities as noted by other reviewers and I really wish there was a more extensive Appendix listing places to get information regarding licensing, insurance, employees vs ICs etc. for each state.
But, there's still a good overview of the business here. So it's worth having in your library -- I just wouldn't depend on this as my sole guide to starting and running a successful pet-care business.
No longer the GURU of pet sitting - many others now........2005-09-10
I get the impression that Patti wrote her book and her information after being in business for many years. She is knowledgeable about the business. But her materials are often based on the premise that you have lots of start-up funds (and plan to afford an accountant, web site designers, trademarking, S-Corp designation, etc) and LOTS of employees. The fact is most pet sitters just don't use these things in the beginning, and having a reasonable budget is important the first year. And for those of us in the business now, computers are a HUGE factor in streamlining our business. She doesn't say much about these in the copy I have.
The average sitters doesn't start up with a trademark or employees, and most start as sole proprioterships (much less paperwork). Her Pet Sitting For Profit book does mention that most of these things are optional so that's good.
Other info can be rather ambiguous. For example, under "Business Licenses" it says "check to see if you need a business license". It would be nice if she could specify why and the details (some states require you to be licensed for particular industries, and others don't. Others require registration of your busines name by city, or state. Others require you to get a sales tax #. All this is important, and you should understand it in detail) and more info on where to go.
Other debateable topics (like magnets on your cars or advertising on t-shirts) aren't listed as something you need to think about in depth (for instance, magnets on your cars can be a deterrent to some clients who don't want it highlighted that they may not be home). I couldn't find discussions on the big questions, like should I collect payment before or after the sit (maybe I just missed it??? Have it in front of my but still can't find anything about payments?).
So if you are looking for a book that will help you get thinking about the right topics and you plan to have lots of employees, maybe start here. The book is very affordable.
And you have to kind of breeze past all her advertisements for her other availabe items. General consensus from us sitters already in the biz is that they are overpriced.
I recommend "The Professional Pet Sitter" by Lori & Scott Mangold. It's geared more towards beginners, and I really like the organization much better. Their form samples are limited, but can get you thinking in the right direction.
Then check out forms and other info available on Ebay for "Pet Sitting". You can find great, complete form packs as low as $5, and full startup kits for under $40. Try searching Google also - some great stuff out there that can be VERY helpful. Always see a sample of forms before you buy - and check out feedback to be sure you are getting something good.
Edited 2006 to add: The version of this book that I have is fairly old. There is a new version coming out 5/2006 that will hopefully be more current. (?)

Included are games that teach employees how to continuous learning; exercises that enhance motivation, effectiveness, and speed in providing quality customer service; and activities that foster team-building. As in the previous books, each game has been field tested by professionals, most games can be played in under 30 minutes, and all the games can be implemented at little or no cost.
Customer Reviews:
Helpful resource that could be improved.......2007-05-14
The best thing about The Complete Games Trainers Play is its sheer size. Actually, it isn't nearly as big as some reviews imply. It is really around 1000 pages, not 2000+. And for some reason, a significant percentage of those pages are left blank. But even with that caveat, this is still a sizable resource.
If you are willing to devote 30+ minutes to finding an activity, you are sure to find one (or five) that are ideal for your training event. The fact that individual "games" can be removed from the ring binder is also helpful. This allows you to use the activities without carrying the whole book around, and to easily photocopy sheets for individual participants as some activities require.
However, there are some significant downsides. There is no real way to find appropriate activities without flipping through virtually the entire book. A large number of the activities aren't very good. And, most of the book is in a strange "typewriter" typeface that makes it look like it came from 1972. (Oddly, there are some pages which are randomly sprinkled through the book that use a different, more recent-looking typeface.)
To really upgrade its usefulness, Games . . . would benefit from taking a leap into the computer age. In other words, along with the printed book, a computer CD should be included. This could feature a good, searchable index, which is now lacking. It would also make it possible to print out games, and modify handouts on the computer to your organization's needs.
I've never bought any other resources like this, so I can't say if this is better or worse than others. I can say that in spite of the steep price and the drawbacks, I'm definitely glad I purchased it. It was very useful to me, and will be again in the future. However, there are a few simple steps the authors and publishers could take to greatly improve it.
Trainers Dream.......2006-11-03
This is a great tool of Trainers. Keeping your trainees engaged throughout the training is always a challenge. This tool give creative ways to assess retention of information. The games are great and the administrative forms and suggestions are wonderful.
Lots of games here.......2004-12-08
People love playing games a lot more than listening to lectures; this is indisputable. I didn't like all of the games listed here, but so what. Several I found helpful and intend to use.
Not Impressed.......2003-09-30
Although there is a lot of information packed into this book, I was very unimpressed with the layout and visual design. It looks like it was typed up in 1970. The graphics are ancient and the layout is just one big binder with no cross-referencing or indexing available. To find a useful game, you have to sift through hundreds of pages. It really is a shame, as there are some clever games here to loosen up an audience.
Frankly for this price, I expected something a bit flashier and filled with reproducibles that I would want to copy and hand out. The way it looks now, and with it's unwieldy format, it's going to sit on my shelf.
If I hadn't spilled water on it, I would have sent it back for a refund.
The Complete Games Trainers Play.......2000-05-23
This book was helpful in planning an in-house managment training session. The book is divided into sections making it easy to locate games targeted at specific areas. The book is actually a 3" 3 ring binder. It is a large book, however, it does contain a wealth of information.

Customer Reviews:
A good start in preparation for interview questions.......2006-12-29
I found this book to be very good at basic questions that you may find in an interview. Honestly, I have been asked a few right out of this book. This is a very straight forward, no-nonsense guide to basic interview questions. I did not rate this book higher because there are other preparation guides out there that do a better job when it comes to specific job functions.
Jeffery Allen takes a very straight forward approach when it comes to viewing what a job interview can be. Often these are dull interviews where it is difficult to shine in, and he brings that point home very clearly. He does a good job of coaching you to have good body language, a solid voice delivery, and to think before you answer. It is not likely that an interviewer is going to ask you odd questions like what kind of sea creature would you be, so do not worry about what is unlikely to happen.
He suggests that the is preparation to the standard questions that are asked. Give the facts only, don't elaborate too much. Do not tell your life story, give answers that pertain to the job. If they want to know about you, they want to know what makes you fit towards their job, not that you run marathons. Deflect personal questions and turn those answers into general answers. Turn these answers into job specific answers. One question is do you have a car and can you make it to work on time? An answer may be something like, I have reliable transportation, and arriving to work on-time has never been an issue for me.
I think a good job is done at getting you to answer the basic questions. The key here is preparation. It is not the time to think of your answer at the job interview, at this point you should be ready to say your answer immediately when asked the question. Many questions are asked in this book that will make you think and be ready for your next job interview. Going over these questions and deciding what your answers will be ahead of time will aide you greatly in your next job interview.
Not Complete.......2003-03-10
I've just started my job search, but already I have read a few job interview books. This one does not compare favorably with the others, such as Knock Em Dead and 101 Great Answers to the Toughest Interview Questions. Like 101 Great Answers it has questions and sample responses. However, unlike 101 Great Answers, the responses seem canned. Other books emphasize that you need to answer the questions for yourself and not just cut and paste the responses into your repetoire of answers, but this one leads you to believe that if you follow their responses exactly, you will more likely have a better interview. What also is missing is a clear overview of the process you need to go through to prepare yourself. This is where Knock Em Dead is much better. It puts the interview in the context of the whole job search process.
Recommendation: Choose a better interview book. The suggestions in this book won't make you stand out from the rest or be true to yourself.
Worthless for Professionals.......2003-02-24
I found this book absolutely worthless for anyone pursuing a professional career. 50% or more of the questions it helps you answer are questions that I have never heard asked in an interview and it would be the waste of an interviewers time to ask them. I have interviewed people for my past employers before and I would never dream of asking most of these questions, so why would you waste your time preparing for them? What's worse, the questions that I hear most frequently when being interviewed don't seem to be mentioned in this book.
A Must Have.......2002-03-16

Customer Reviews:
Impossible to describe how helpful this is.......2006-06-12
This book was my savior during my job search as I was preparing to graduate from college. Every book I looked at for help on resumes was designed for someone who already had professional work experience. This book shows you how to take your part time college jobs and recreational experiences and turn it into intensely desirable stuff. It shows examples of resumes by college major, with infinite examples and explanations. It was so successful for me, in fact, that I now buy it as a present for all my friends when they graduate and head into the work force.
great book!.......1999-02-22
I spent endless hours looking for a job once I graduated from college. A few times I wanted to give up and just stay home. But a college friend of mine told me about this book and my luck changed. I revised my cover letter and resume and the next thing I knew I got three interviews and three offers. Thank you Bob for helping me land the job of my dreams!!!
