5 out of 5 stars Book review.......2007-09-27

I found the book to be inspiring and filled with facts, information and remedys for healing and healthy living. The 7 day fast, the cleansing and supplements, all made an incredible difference to me and my Mom, who has cancer. I purchased 4 more books and gave them friends and family in hopes they can be inspired to improve their health through life style changes.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book To Help You Detoxify.......2006-02-09

This book gave me HOPE and a plan of action a few months ago, as I have breast cancer that has metastasized throughout my body. The surgeon who diagnosed me suggested that I purchase the book Death And Dying (don't ever believe your doctor, as only God knows His plans for you) but an acquaintance recommended A Cancer Battle Plan Sourcebook as well as the first book, A Cancer Battle Plan. Ann Frahm has been through the worst of it and survived. Now with her plan, combined with only 2 doses of chemo, I'm almost completely cancer free. Again, Ann gave me so much hope, and that's what people need more than anything when they get diagnosed. Since one out of two people are getting cancer, I highly recommend this book to everyone... that way you don't have to scramble to get information if you, your friends, or family get diagnosed. I'm thoroughly convinced that this plan of action could save the large majority of people with cancer, but people just aren't getting their hands on this type of information. Additionally, Dr. Frahm is a great guy who has emailed me with information several times. And, by the way, if you have cancer.... I"M WINNING AND SO WILL YOU!!

5 out of 5 stars In response to "Disappointing,..." from 2003.......2006-01-04

I will be honest, I have not read the book. I just had to respond to the reviewer who was upset that Anne died and that without the walking proof then the author is not credible. "Disappointed" must watch movies but you know what, life does not always have a happy hollywood ending. Cancer is an aggressive disease that ravages the body. You said it yourself that she was able to prolong her death. Read the other reviews, many people have had positive response by following this plan - but there are no guarantees. Her death (albeit from complications) shows this. To claim that there was a guarantee and proof that this plan is the cure-all would be irresponsible. And if nothing else, at the very least, these people have a positive experience while going through the plan and a positive mental outlook can be a very strong medicine.

5 out of 5 stars This book saved my life.......2005-08-23

To correct the above review,Anne Frahm actually died of iron poisoning due to having dozens of blood transfusions from complications resulting from a bone marrow transplant. The reviewer should do their homework before giving such a misinformed review.
After being diagnosed with an extremely rare form of Lympthoma,I read this book and followed the program strictly for five months. In that time I reduced a peach size tumor in my colon to the size of a pea in alittle over a month and in the last month have had all bloodwork, scans, etc come back normal. My oncologists are baffled as I have done no conventional treatment. This program works if you have the discipline to stay with it.
Dr Frahm lays out a plan that just makes common sense.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has cancer or anyone who who doesn't want to get it.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing, especially after I found out Ann died.......2003-12-31

I bought this book because I liked the other book, A Cancer Battle Plan, so much. However, it must have been right after the first book came out (I really hope it didn't happen BEFORE it came out...) that Anne died. I didn't know she died until I read this book, and I was very disappointed to hear she died. After knowing that, using this book seemed like of pointless. After all, with all they did and all they knew, she still died. Granted she lived longer, but she still died. This book is basically a collection of all the latest and/or most popular alternative therapies out there, which if you have cancer, you have probably already read. Some of it gets a little extreme, with magnet therapy, etc. Will it save your life? Doing all these things will certainly give you something to try, but if you are a cancer patient like me--now with no job due to so called budget cuts (funny no one else got laid off) you might want to spend some hours of the day with those you love and doing things you enjoy. Taking supplements, juices, colonics on a schedule all day long may not be your idea of a new career, and a lot of this book encourages you to do that. My only comfort is, this book costs a lot less than the $3200 that going to their retreat would have cost, and everything they do at the retreat is in there, so buy this book and save yourself $3,200. Dave you sound like a nice guy, but it is hard to make people believe when they don't have the walking proof anymore. Sorry.

This book seems to cover just about everything. It was highly recommended by a friend - cancer survivor. Good book to have on hand as a reference guide.

5 out of 5 stars An extremely useful book to keep patients up to date ..........2006-07-10

The most useful tool in fighting cancer is this: knowledge. Knowledge of what exactly you have; knowledge of the latest techniques, clinical trials, meds, etc; and the risk factors. This book gives you that. Cancer is arguably the fastest moving area of medecine there is; analyses and coclusions are regularly formed, reformed, reformed again, over and over and over. Staying on top of the treatment protocols is critical, and for the moment at least, this book helps patients do that. I highly recommend this book to anyone diagnosed with cancer; it gives you an invaluable framework for asking the right questions and could save your life. Do not assume that all doctors are created equal. They are not. For a patient, it is your job to ask the right questions. This book can only help do that!

5 out of 5 stars Choices, Fourth Edition by Marion Morra.......2006-03-15

When I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 1989, I discovered this book and have been recommending it to cancer patients ever since. Recently, I decided it was time to get a more up to date edition and I am glad that I did. It not only has a lot of additional information, it is still as easy to use as the earlier edition.
'Choices' is the one book that provides newly diagnosed cancer patients with answers to questions that many of us did not even we should ask. Yours in good health, Nora Deane

5 out of 5 stars The best source book around.......2002-03-06

Having worked in the oncology area and had relatives stricken with cancer, I can not think of a more useful tool for someone who needs to fight cancer. This is a very dynamic area of medicine where treatment protocols are made then remade. How do you know if your doctor is up to speed? This book tells you where the leading instutions are and how to access the latest treatments. If nothing else, this book allows you to feel like you are part of the fight.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars THE book to have for scoliosis patients.......2005-11-01

While it doesn't have as many case studies/pictures/stories as Scoliosis: Ascending the curve, I find the information to be a lot more in depth.
It was recommended to me by a fellow scoliosis surgery veteran before I had my op (Posterior only, T2 to L1 Fusion nearly 2 years ago at the age of 20), and the information it gave me helped me to really be informed and therefore less scared of what I was facing.
I personally don't really care for Stopping Scoliosis (just bringing it up as the two are offered as a package). It's too fluffy and not real in-depth. Though I guess that book may be better suited to kids/teens or those who are likely to get scared by TOO much information.

5 out of 5 stars The Scoliosis Sourcebook by Michael Neuwirth, M.D........2002-05-15

I have scoliosis and just recently had A/P spinal fusion at the age of 50. I searched everywhere and bought severals books before I chose a doctor and had the surgery. I found this book to be the best and most helpful. It is critical for patients to understand and expect what this surgery means.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Reference for Anyone Researching Scoliosis.......2001-07-23

Michael Neuwirth has done an excellent job of covering just about everything patients and their caretakers need to know about scoliosis and its treatment. Although there were a few times where I noted Dr. Neuwirth's treatment is different than the treatment received in this part of the country, in general, his wisdom and advise is right on. I'm grateful for such a thorough text to which I can refer.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good resource.......2007-05-09

Not as in depth as some of the other books, but had some valuable information for me. Worked really well in conjunction with other in depth books.

5 out of 5 stars Great reference book.......2003-06-03

Very informative book and also had a humorous side to it. I liked it immediately.

5 out of 5 stars A Welcome Addition to the Literature About Hypothyroidism.......2002-05-26

Clearly written with a touch of humor, this book is a valuable resource for anyone suffering from hypothyroidism. It provides useful information and expands on the ideas and concepts in Ms. Rosenthals's earlier book, the Thyroid Sourcebook. Ms. Rosenthal describes the symptoms of hypothyroidism and helps the reader distinguish between this ailment and others which physicians might misdiagnose. The book explains the impact on the body of hypothyroidism and offers both conventional and unconventional ideas for the hypothyroid patient to deal with this illness. There are suggestions for diet, exercise, herbal and other ways to deal with the problems this condition causes. A lengthy appendix with a wide variety of valuable resources helps make this an important book to own.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Dr. Worman Is a Liar.......2007-07-13

Dr. Worman should be ashamed of himself. He is obviously in the pockets of the big drug companies, because there are several herbal remedies that truly enhance liver function. One of these herbs, milk thistle, has been proven to aid liver function, but Dr. Worman goes out of his way to claim that no "scientific" studies show this. That's nonsense, and it's a lie. Milk thistle has been known to aid liver function for centuries, and it has been thorougly tested and proven to do so in recent studies. Dr. Worman does not want you to know this, because the drug companies cannot make any money on this common and inexpensive herb. So Dr. Worman would rather lie and potentially let people die while he shills for "Big Pharm."

5 out of 5 stars Good buy .......2005-07-12

I got this book for my husband who had slightly elevated ALTs and ANA. He's done many tests but doctors can't figure out what's going on. While this book did not give the answer (now, we wouldn't need doctors then!), it helped him get a good understanding of the interconnected liver issues. Got the thumbs up from a person in the pharma field!

4 out of 5 stars Whew! There is hope........1999-10-04

Hepatitis C has many times been called "the silent killer," but Dr. Worman explains that death is not always the case....people can (and do) live with the virus. In addition to covering Hep. C (which I was mostly interested in), he sheds light on the other Hepatitis viruses and liver dysfunctions (hence the title). I found this book to be technical enough to give a layperson, like myself, a good biochemistry and cell biology lesson, but easy enough to read so that I didn't feel like putting it down. I especially liked how Dr. Worman frequently repeated information (or rather, re-worded the same information, summarizing). Writing the book this way helped the info. "sink in." This is a great counterpoint to alternative medicine believers (which I am), as it offers a strictly medical approach to diagnosis and treatment. (We all need both sides of the story.) Especially beneficial are the chapters on support groups, where to find more information about liver disorders, and the glossary of terms. I recommend this book for anyone who is seeking more information for him/herself or a relative striken with liver problems of any kind. It is a thorough guide with practical information that in the long run gives hope.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best resource for asthma information.......2007-09-23

This book has tons of great information about asthma - triggers, diagnosis, medicines, alternative therapies and more. As someone who was recently diagnosed with exercise induced asthma, I've found it extremely helpful and informative. It's a must-read for anyone who has asthma or cares for someone with asthma.

5 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air.......2007-05-20

Asthma is not fun. Part of controlling asthma is avoiding triggers, like dust, dust mites, pollens, molds, and other triggers in the workplace. Perhaps you have "Monday Morning Asthma" and didn't realize it is something in your workplace that is making your asthma worse. This book has loads of information on where to find those asthma triggers, how to control them and what the medications do. There are resources for websites, support groups and medical help. A must-have for anyone with asthma or a family member who suffers.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT RESOURCE.......2007-04-02

THIS IS A TRULY COMPREHENSIVE, WELL WRITTEN BOOK THAT IS A MUST READ FOR BOTH THE HEALTH PROFFESIONAL AND THE LAY PERSON. READING THIS BOOK HAS GIVEN ME A THOROUGH EDUCATION ON ASTHMA. OWNING THIS BOOK GIVES ME AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE TO REFER BACK TO.

5 out of 5 stars Informative and helpful guide.......2007-02-24

I am a physical therapist who has worked in pulmonary medicine for over 20 years. I found this book to be helpful and informative for asthma sufferers and their families. It is very "user friendly" for the lay person, as well as an appropriate medical guide for the healthcare practitioner. I highly recommend this book.

3 out of 5 stars People with asthma often need magnesium supplementation.......2005-05-26

There is significant evidence that the root cause of many, if not most, cases of asthma (and many allergies as well) is deficiency of magnesium. This fact is discussed in detail by Dr. Carolyn Dean in her excellent book The Miracle of Magnesium. Dr. Dean recommends 600 mg of supplemental magnesium daily. People with asthma who follow Dr. Dean's advice about daily magnesium supplementation often improve dramatically even if they have continued to struggle with asthma under other treatments which omit magnesium supplementation. If you are suffering from asthma please read Dr. Dean's excellent book and follow her advice regarding daily magnesium supplementation. It may well be the most important thing you will ever due to relieve this terrible ailment. By the way, although a variety of magnesium supplements are available, and beneficial, chelated magnesium -- which is readily available in most health food stores -- is the most effective.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Explore a world of flavor.......2007-01-08

Love trying new and exotic foods? Then this book is for you. This is not a recipe book per say, although there are a few recipes included in each chapter. This book is more of an encyclopedia of the foods of the world organized by country.

Each chapter includes a basic introduction to the foods of a specific region, a discussion of the country/region and it's history as it relates to food, the main ingrediants and dishes that dominate that regions cuisine, instructions on how to eat and order like a native and a few recipes.

You would have to go to another resource if you were interested in making the food yourself, but you can not beat this book for giving you a basic knowledge of all the different types of food and beverages that are out there to try.

The How to order and eat like a native sections are superb and cover and array of things including table manners, utensil (or non-utensil) usage (did you know that it may be considered less then polite to eat with your chopsticks in your left hand in China? I didn't) and intersting tips.

Love love love this book as will anyone with an interest in ethnic food.

4 out of 5 stars Before you go to a restaurant . . ........2001-09-21

"The Ethnic Food Lover's Companion" is a great book if you like to go out to "ethnic" restaurants. ("Ethnic", i.e., "foreign food" restaurants). In easy-to-read chapters it gives you information about culture, gastronomy, and history for most of the world's great cuisines: Europe (France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Russia, etc.); Africa (North Africa, Ethiopia, West Africa); Middle East; Greece and Turkey; India; Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.) Asia (China, Japan, Korea); Americas (Mexico, Caribbean, Brazil, Peru, etc.). There are descriptions of typical flavorings, cooking methods, and dishes. Highly interesting and recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Intelligent, witty and entertaining!.......2001-08-09

This book is a must-have for any lover of ethnic cuisine as well as all the "foodies" that enjoy the inside scoop on the American dining scene. Eve Zibart provides bacground, cultural tips, recipes, and recommended dishes from ethnic cuisine from around the world. Her writing style is intelligent yet witty and always accessible. The practical tips alone are worth the price of the book. How do you use chopsticks? How do you eat Ethiopian food? This book is a delight from cover to cover and a valuable addition to any food lovers library.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Informative and easy to read.......2007-05-31

This book has helped me to understand the different types of thyroid diseases better. I'm very glad that it also lay out the risks of certain surgery that some doctors do not highlight. It is written in a manner that is easy to read and not heavy as compare to scientific books.

    4 out of 5 stars Very Informative.......2006-08-21

This is a really go book for anyone who doesn't know anything about thyroid conditions/diseases. I have had some experience with thyroid problems in the past so a lot of the information contained in the book was not new to me. The best part about the book is that you get detailed information without all the medical jargon. The author is very clear and descriptive about the different types of thyroid conditions, symptoms, common medical treatments, etc. I purchased it because I was hoping for more information on weight management and diet for tyroid patients. Although the book touches on this topic it was not as detailed as I would have liked. Otherwise, I would recommend this book as a guide to walk you through the maze of medical terms and to sort out some of the fact from fiction.

3 out of 5 stars Nothing new here.......2006-05-27

Why did McGraw-Hill publish this book? It is almost identical (verbatim) to The Complete Thyroid Book except that the latter book includes some additional information. Both books were published in 2005.

I agree with the reviewers that mention how basic this book is. If you're new to learning about thyroid conditions and their treatment, The Complete Thyroid Book is a good starting point. Otherwise check out this book or The Complete Thyroid Book from the library and maybe you'll discover a few helpful tidbits.

    5 out of 5 stars Extremely Informative.......2006-03-22

I bought this book after a tough year of thyroid ups and downs. It has empowered me to understand and ask the right questions for a change. So informative but on a level that anyone can understand. After reading my copy, I bought one for my sister, who also has thyroid problems. Her mother-in-law saw it and bought two more copies for friends. Its great for family members of hyper-hypo- thyroid too. It will increase thier understaning. I bought a few books and this was the best, by far!

5 out of 5 stars Thyroid Sourcebook by Rosenthal.......2004-01-22

This is an excellent book which describes classic thyroid
problems and a variety of solutions. Goitrogens are contained
in cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, almonds and fiber.
People living in North America get natural iodine
in their diets. The thyroid makes T3 and T4 cells. The
    parathyroid controls calcium regulation. Hyperthyroidism
produces anxiety, diarrhea, easy bruising, increased gland
size, eye problems, exhaustion, heat intolerance and
palpitations, infertility, menstrual changes, muscle weakness,
paralysis and tremors. Hypothyroidism causes cardio changes,
cold intolerance, digestive changes, fatigue, muscle cramps, numbness and autoimmune deficiencies. The Endocrine Society
is listed at 4350 East West Hwy. -Suite 500 Bethesda MD 20814-4410 at Tel 301-941-0200

Overall, this work is excellent for anyone desiring quality
information on the functioning of the thyroid gland. It should
be in every personal health library.
