I never knew about any of this!.......2007-10-21
I love it when a book comes along that points out web site functions I never realized existed. This book packs a lot of information into a compact read, which makes it easy to get through but steers you in exactly the right marketing direction. The way he assigns ratings to the various marketing techniques helps one decide what to tackle first.
A solid looks at the basics.......2007-10-14
As the author of the recently self-published Hokie Games: Virginia Tech Football Game by Game 1945-2006 I devoured the contents of this book to try to jump-start my Amazon sales. I can't speak to the results just yet as the portion of the suggestions that I have implemented has only been in place for a week or so.
In fact, part of the appeal of the book is that it's not supposed to show results yet. It's not a quick "make you book an instant Amazon bestseller" plan. The book has tips and techniques that grow your presence over the long haul. That's exactly what I was looking for and this book delivers.
The steps were easy to follow and the "why's" were well laid out. Obviously, the author did his homework on the subject of Amazon.
--Rich Tandler, author of Hokie Games: Virginia Tech Football Game by Game 1945-2006
Great asset for POD authors.......2007-09-23
When I purchased this book, I was really quite skeptical. I figured that it was just a promotion of Amazon.com and not really any useful advice.
Then my wife and I published our first children's book, Santa and Sam's Big Secret through Outskirts Press. Although OP did a wonderful job of publishing the book, the major portion of publicity for the book was left up to us. We have been following some of the advice offered by Brent Sampson and we do believe that it is helping with the promotion of our book.
Sell Your Book on Amazon is an easy read. You can easily skip over chapters that you do not feel interest you, and still come up with many ideas that will help you to promote your book.
I would recommend this book to any authors who are using a Publish On Demand publisher. It will surely enhance the sales of your book.

Buy this book if you want to sell books too!.......2007-09-12
I wrote a book called, "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening." It took three years to write. I spent another year sending it to publishers before I finally found a small publisher willing to work with me.
The Great Day came. I held my baby in my hands. I knew the world would proclaim her beauty. I was wrong, very wrong. A few friends and friends of friends bought the book. I was stunned and hurt too. But I kept trying to market my book the old fashioned way. I contacted the major book chains. To them I did not exist. I sent over 100 books to bookstores, and I never got a single order. I sent about 100 books to major newspapers, and I never got a single review.
One local bookstore, New Renaissance Bookshop in Portland, Oregon was very helpful. But the support of one local bookstore was not enough. I was almost ready to give up, but instead I went to Amazon and joined the Amazon Advantage program. I sold perhaps 20 books. Victory at last! Amazon loved me and I loved Amazon! And then I did not sell another book on Amazon for about a month.
I was ready to give up. But I knew my book could help readers feel better about themselves. I had received dozens of touching letters that left me feeling happy that something I had done made a difference in the world. Besides, I needed the money. Family illnesses had depleted my bank account and my debt was mounting. So, instead of quitting, I did an Amazon search for books on marketing books, and I found, "How to Sell Your Book on Amazon," by Brent Sampson.
I wish I had found this book a year ago. If you have a book you are trying to sell, or if you want to write a book, buy this book. Unless you are that rare writer who pens a bestseller, you will find yourself alone in a big jungle. Amazon gives you a path out of the jungle, and Brent Sampson's book is the guide.
Honestly, I have just started implementing his suggestions. So I have lots of work to do. After I finish this review, I will ask him to be my Amazon friend. I might ask him to review "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening." He said to mention my book as often as possible without being obnoxious. And finally, he said Amazon friends are important. You see, if you become my friend, whenever anyone goes to your Amazon profile and clicks on my picture in your Friends section, there's a chance I will sell a book. And if someone clicks on your picture in my Friends section, you might sell a book. So, do you want to be my friend? Good heavens, I feel like a little kid again.
I will make a deal with you. In a year, I will write another review of "Sell Your Book on Amazon" and let you know how I am doing. Thank you, John C. Conley, author of "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening."

Customer Reviews:
I Do Not Recommend This Book.......2007-10-23
I was disappointed with the content of this book. I am an absolute beginner when it comes to web-based business, and my intent was to learn all I could before launching my website. At times, the author wrote for a reader in terms so basic as to not be helpful on the topic (essentially, `marketing is important because it will increase your web presence and this is good and important because it can increase your sales and because more people will know about you' type of thing. Well, we know that--that`s why we bought the book!); then, at other times, the information was confounding, ostensibly written for a far more sophisticated reader (discussion on various website tags in HTML creation--huh?). The former (along with considerable repetition of these basic concepts) would likely bore those with any knowledge at all; the latter would likely exasperate the unseasoned website creator, raising more questions than the text offered answers to. Unfortunately, I fell in the middle of the spectrum of these two groups and often found myself bored and exasperated. The book itself could have been much, much shorter without removing any key information. Ironically, in his section on website automation, the author offers advice he fails to follow in his own work, among many others: be concise and to the point; don't make it longer than needed; answer all questions. These were my major quarrels with this book.
That being said, I cannot say I did not receive benefit from the reading. The author presents good ideas which might otherwise be overlooked, as well as providing websites to assist the e-business creator with various tasks and functions. Additionally, the author remains aware of the fact throughout that many small business owners do not have limitless budgets, and he is generous in his offering of websites where the reader can go to find free or low-cost assistance. If there are places the discussions fall short, at least the reader is now alerted that certain elements deserve attention, and can then seek alternative sources of information on point. As it appears the shipper was also the publisher, I want to say that I was extremely satisfied with the purchase process from this company. The book arrived very fast, was in perfect condition, and the company took the time and effort to check on my satisfaction without delay. I was very pleased, and, therefore, would have no problem ordering from this publisher again.
excellent.......2007-09-01
This is a great 1st time starter for small business. Anyone who's planning on starting an online business should definitely read.
It's exactly what I was expecting.......2007-08-25
This book is a really must-to read for brand new internet entrepreneurs like me. I'm quite happy about this purchase. I recommend.
Great Resource for Beginners.......2007-04-03
Bruce takes us through all the necessary points to get a website on track to benefit from traffic that can be resourced for little to nothing.
If you have a site that is sitting dormant, this is your book.
I found many basic tips which people may not know how to search for. It's all written out here in this guide.
A Useful Compendium. .......2007-03-16
The majority of the information contained in this book can easily be found by doing several web searches for various topics. That being said, I appreciate the ease of being able to browse through this book for the information instead of searching for information which may or may not be valid.
Within these pages you will find sections on everything from setting up an affiliate program to using banner ads and Google AdWords for your site. You will also find an extensive list of terms and abbreviations common to the e-commerce industry.
Although a bit of a dry read, I finished the entire book in the space of two days on vacation. In the process of reading, several creative marketing ideas popped into my head, so I definitely have the author to thank for that!
In the end, I am giving this book 4 stars for two reasons: 1) He repeats a lot of information, as if trying to stretch out his word count to meet his deadline. 2) Some of the chapters read like an advertise for companies that he either owns or is otherwise related to.
However, beyond those two points of contention, I highly recommend this book as a starting point for anyone who is just starting out in the e-commerce or just needs a little refresher course.

Customer Reviews:
Good content; light on colorful examples.......2007-08-17
The authors did a good job of explaining the academics of retail. They covered everything from strategies for purchasing, competing with big chains, advantages of technology and training for employees. This is a great book for those concepts. However, the authors explain these concepts in much the same way Ben Stein talks about dry eyes. Colorful retail experiences could be used to make fun examples and make the book more readable and less like a lecture from a finance professor. My only other gripe was that examples from the non-clothing world would have been great, such as selling technology items that lose value as they age on the shelf. Those gripes aside, I would recommend this book to anyone who needs to understand retail 101. You will definitely walk away thinking about your next trip to Abercrombie differently.
Excellent primer.......2007-08-15
Looking into starting a retail business prompted me to look for books that would give an insight into the world of retail. This book has not dissapointed. The writing is light while providing good information and real world examples.
The resource CD contains spreadsheets and documents such as job descriptions, payroll budget, supplier checklist, balance of business which provide a great starting point for the owner.
Ok, but out of date.......2006-07-24
This has some good information as noted by other reviewers, but also a few shortcomings. Some of its advice will be useful only for particular businesses. It contains many references to fashion retailing and will be very relevant for people doing that.
The major shortcoming is that the technology chapter is woefully out of date. Written in 1998, it contains such chestnuts as, "We believe that every one of the personal computers in your store should have a CD-ROM drive." and "Providing information over the internet is a much better business proposition than selling products over the internet. Even if you could get your home page address to a huge number of potential customers, we do not believe that you should try to sell things to them." Considering I bought ther book online, I must respectfully disagree with the authors. This is not to say the chapter is entirely irrelevant. No better website advice has ever been given than, "Customers are not interested in bells and whistles when they visit a website. Instead, they want useful information and they want it quickly." I would give a new edition of this book with an updated technology chapter a four star rating.
THIS BOOK IS THE BEST RESOURCE.......2006-04-13
Look no further for information on how to launch your retail business! This book has everything you need and more! Ted Topping is such an amazing resource on all things retail - he guides you in a practical, professional, thoughtful and caring way through every step of starting your retail business. If you want to be successful in starting your business - or if you need advice on your current business .... READ THIS BOOK!!! It is an invaluable guide which you will refer to for years to come.
Excellent! Love the templates/worksheets in the back!.......2005-08-05
This book is so easy and straightforward. This book is definitely a keeper! Also I love the templates in the back, especially the competition checklist.

More of an introduction than a handbook.......2006-01-10
OK as a starter, for someone who knows zero about media, but falls short of the mark for anyone who is a practitioner in a media-related industry. The first 100 pages are spent on "context" which might be helpful for readers who know nothing about marketing either (Ms. Katz feels it necessary to tell us what the 4Ps are...), but this leaves very little for anyone who actually needs to DO media buying, planning or research.
The Media Handbook a Handy Reference to Media Planning.......2003-06-19
Helen Katz' The Media Handbook is an easy to follow guide which will help a wide range of marketing/advertising students and practicioners gain a basic understanding of the media planning process. I feel comfortable making this observation as a former media planning executive at DDB Chicago advertising agency and now as instructor teaching two media planning courses at Loyola University Chicago.
This book begins with chapters on "What is Media" and "Media in the Marketing Context" then moves through the steps of the media planning process before it concludes with chapters on media buying and media plan evaluation/accountability. It provides a good overview of media planning yet spares the reader exhaustive explanations of media terminology and media math calculations found in may college media textbooks.
Author Katz has authored this 3rd Edition to stay current with the rapidly changing media environment. To a reasonable extent, she has succeeded although today's digital media technology changes are occuring at such a breakneck pace that any media textbook is somewhat out of date a week after it has been written.
A broad cross section of the marketing/advertising community will find The Media Handbook to be a useful reference source in understanding the role of media planning in the marketing communications process.

Deploying Oracle applications in any organization is an enormous task, and Oracle Financials Handbook should be considered prerequisite reading for any technical or business process specialist involved in such a project. The applications provide core business processes based on Oracle Corporation's database architecture, and the book discusses some of the most popular applications in the suite.
The book opens with a brief executive summary of Oracle Financials. The authors place financial applications in perspective, explaining where they fit into the overall Oracle Applications strategy and what the benefits are of choosing them for core business processes. This section also presents some of the important organizational choices you must make at the outset of deployment.
In the middle section of the book, the authors discuss the modules: general ledger, receivables, payables, asset management, purchasing, inventory, order entry, and others. The General Ledger module forms the core of the strategy and is discussed in great detail. The book provides plenty of flow diagrams to explain each module. The authors devote an additional chapter to budgeting and allocations, and address different accounting models.
Oracle Financials Handbook closes with technical details on deploying Oracle Financials in an enterprise. The entire computing environment is considered in this discussion, which includes information on customizing and modifying the modules to meet your needs. The final chapters cover project management and training issues that you need to work through. --Stephen Plain

OCP Advisor's recommended reading for 11i OCP exam.......2007-10-07
OCP Advisor advises his blog readers at ebizocp dot blogspot dot com on study materials, preparation tips and exam experiences for 11i OCP exams.
OCP Advisor recommends the Oracle Financials Handbook as a must read to review your concepts and use the book to prepare flash cards and exam cram checklist. While a handbook cannot replace user guides and other documentations, it serves as an excellent tool to revise the fundamentals tested in the certification exams. The book should be undergoing a makeover pretty soon as Release 12 introduces radically new features for the Oracle Financials foundation. Read more about R12 at oracler12 dot blogpsot dot com. Happy Reading!
Amazon doesnt have this book and did not deliver after 2 months too!.......2006-04-29
I have tried to buy this book from Amazon. When buying it says it will ship in 2-3 weeks, but even after two months Amazon keeps mailing that it would still be delayed by a month. Be careful while buying this book from amazon, as in my case the purpose is finshed before i even got the book.
Might be ok but..........2001-07-02
I bought this book because I was trying to teach myself enough to become a Financials Developer. This still MIGHT be the right book for me. However, this is not a step by step guide to the installation. In addition, the book assumes some familiarity with accounting systems.
It's not a handbook, just an brief overview.......2001-05-16
We should appreciate that this is the first book published on market talking about Oracle Financials. However, this is the book that contains only general introduction. It doesn't have any detail information either for functional users or technical persons. As an Oracle Financial developer with many years of experience, I don't get any useful information out of it. May be it's good for somebody who don't know Oracle Financials at all.
Worth Reading Once.......2000-01-03
I must appreciate the efforts of David and Graham to come out with such a book. Those who are used to read Oracle Apps Help and other documentation may not find some thing appealing. The authors have tried to mix functional concepts and some technical info with practical Do's and Don'ts. So may be they are not able to satisfy both to the fullest. This obviously is not possible in single book (in first edition too). Still I would expect the authors to include more of Tips that are not documented and extend the content to include manufacturing, HR and CRM to meants meant for Oracle Applications. This book is definitely worth reading once for all levels of professionals !

Book Description
The Web has developed its own set of rules and attitudes for writing hard-hitting marketing copy. Robert Bly's The Online Copywriter's Handbook is the first practical and authoritative guide to what exactly those rules are and how they differ from writing for print audiences. From novices just taking their first copywriting steps to veterans looking to add impact and results to their online efforts, it covers everything from general fundamentals of writing effective copy to specific Web copywriting tips and traps.
Customer Reviews:
Too many copywriting rules, not enough tech........2006-12-31
This book was very similar to Bly's previous books which went through the basic tenets of copywriting. He does a great job of transferring the "writing to sell" principles to web pages in this book, but I wish he would have touched more on the technical aspects. Many writers are looking to learn how to approach writing for Flash or any new web language of the day... and we need something that brings us into that territory. With this book, it was close but no cigar.
Bly has great experience and helpful hints.......2006-02-17
Learning to write content for an effective website is crucial for any business or organization. Not only does Bly recommend good writing practices, he also describes the best way to design and market your website. This book is a credible source and a helpful resource for anyone pursuing web content development.
I especially thought that the tips in the first half of the book regarding web writing fundamentals and practices were very helpful. And, although the data may have been out of date, the principles still apply. Bly also provided several good websites throughout the book that would help any beginning web designer in their quest for the perfect website.
Weak, Lacking Depth and Dated material.......2005-01-02
I've read many books in this segment and I would strongly recommend reading Hot Text: Web Writing that Works or Networds. Robert Bly is a "print guy" that thought it would be interesting to write a book on electronic copy. I would say that the first half of the book is written by supposed experts in on-line marketing. The book is crowded with all sorts of references to other people's work. This leads to a very choppy style of reading in my opinion. The author uses case studies from work that he has already completed but rarely does the content match the electronic world. For a book that is written in 2003, the data is incredibly dated. The author is comfortable with using data from 1996 in a book that talks about the ever changing environment of On-Line marketing. Most of the data regarding internet statistics was incredibly dated. The author talks about the principals of good copy writing but rarely goes into any depth with regards to examples of the principals. I found the writing to be lazy to say the least. Clearly this author is capitalizing on the interest of electronic copy. Take out the experts that know about on-line marketing, you're left with an incredibly weak book. Although there are is a lot of expert reference, rarely do the experts go into any depth with regards to their arguments or points. If this book is the only book that you are exposed to within this segment; you might be left thinking that you read an average book. When you compare the book to other books in the same segment, it simply doesn't compare. Not a good book.
Out of date..........2004-01-15
This book is totally out of date for 2003 and 2004!
Home Businesses Need This Book!.......2003-11-25
Every online business needs to understand how it can improve its appearance on the world wide web and Bly shows us how to do just that. This is a great book for small and home businesses who want to take their websites to the next level. And a great book for the beginning copywriter who wants to learn the ropes. My only regret is that it doesn't go as extensively into copywriting techniques as I had hoped.

Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is power........2006-07-28
Yes this book makes us confront our own rationilaztions and justifactions for not engaging in safe sex, or engaging in promiscious sex with strangers. The facts are facts, regardless of what you want to believe, and Dr. Goldstone lays all the cards on the table and lets y ou make the decisions from there. He is a gay doctor, so these same issues which he talks about are physical conditions that he himself has to avoid inh is own personal life. I bought this book for my own edification and plan on donating it to my Universitiy's GLBT student services library so others can have insight into the heatlth risks associated with gay sex. The book made me take my own sexual practices into perspective, both past and future, and allowed me to make more intellgient decisions on how to proceed. He make sit very clear that HIV/AIDS is not the only STD out there that can have a very damaging effect, and he also discusses many other health issues and illnesses that can affect men. He also discusses sex, and how to use lubricants and condoms and how to position yourself for penetration, so this is a great device for the inexperienced young men trying their sexuality out for the first time. Dr. Goldstone is 100% pro gay, he is gay himself, but that does not mean we can deny the truth of our biological bodies and the physical conditions that can come upon them. Read this book with a grain of salt, and use it to better protect yourself, thats what it's intention is for. He also adds vignettes to the chapters previous to you reading them to give you a perspective of where he is coming from, and also has a great sense of humor, although it is a bit corny. I wish more MDs would realize we need some humor in order to rest our minds during a physical examination. He also makes it very clear that you should be completely upfront with your physician about being gay and the sexual acts you perform, otherwise most straight physicians in particular could easily over look your symptoms as being something else entirely.
Informative and fun.......2002-07-02
All things considered, I expected this to be a somewhat dull read, a little too technical because it was penned by an MD. I couldn't have been more wrong. Not only is this book very informative and up to date, but it's written in a hugely entertaining and, yes, erotic, style. Sex manuals are very helpful when you have a date, but sometimes they can also be good company on those lonely nights when you don't have a man. This book is one of the best gay sex manauls available.
What you need to know - and probably more than you want to.........2002-03-27
The guy's a doctor -- so, with excrutiating fascination and enthusiastic detail he spells it all out. I agree that it is enough to put you off sex entirely, but sometimes what you need to know is more than what you want to know. It's damn tough being the grownup sometimes....
(...) is a much better general guide.......2001-12-01
Since 'In's and Out's'' is one of the best selling guides online currently I probably would have just purchased it had I not taken a 'browsing' trip to a local bookstore. It's an extremely detailed compendium of VD's and skin conditions including illustrations of various lesions for easy identification. Now, other manuals (gay, straight or whatever) have a chapter for these things too but this book spends an inordinate amount of time on them at the expense of other areas which is why I think some other reviewers here note that the book at times seems to be more about the (un)joy of gay sex than the joy of. I certainly find it hard to imagine a 'straight' sex guide of this brevity spending such large chunks of space on VD's at the expense of, well, sex. There's certainly little that really conveys the 'Joy of Sex' here or any spiritual, holistic aspects of it. The book appears to have been written with the promiscuous person in mind (and I don't mean to be in any way judgementmal here), recommending scrubbing oneself down in the shower after each sexual 'encounter' (not too romantic) and pretty much treating VD's as a fact of life that you probably WILL encounter. It's also full of a lot of comments from the author based upon personal sentiments (such as that it's terrible for men to go out with facial stubble cause it's 'rough') that would have been better left out since not everyone share's Goldstone's taste.

Frightening reading.......2001-09-28
As a run-of-the-mill, college educated individual without a high level of medical knowledge, I found this book to be at best, scary. I am certain that the author is not being the least bit homophobic, and I can't imagine any reason for him to be unreasonably alarmist about the dangers of gay sex or sex in general. But as a previous reviewer noted, the book's context does seem to run to the negative, and I wouldn't be too surprised if a lot of readers are completely turned off to gay sex by this book. Perhaps a book shouldn't be judged for not couching it's topics gently, but, I think a better effort could have made to make this book less frightening. Apparently, here is the blunt, in-your-face, truth, and it's not pretty.
Book Description
Every eBayer knows that setting prices and deciding how much to bid is a delicate art. While there are many guides to pricing for specific collectibles and the like, this is the first reference to help you determine how much to bid or how much to pay on eBay for a wide array of items.
The eBay Price Guide is filled with exhaustive lists of selling prices for items ranging from rare books and sports memorabilia to computer parts and video games, covering nearly every eBay niche and the most popular subcategories. Introductions to each category offer helpful tips and advice that you'll find invaluable on their own. But not only that, the version of the DeepAnalysis software included on the CD-ROM will have you sifting through even more pricing data from a vast amount of eBay auctions so that you can better evaluate the eBay market, predict how various items will sell, and find out where the deals are. You'll learn that you can sell Abbot & Costello's Frankenstein on 16 mm film or a hospital bottle from the Civil War for just over $700, but for about a buck you can get an amber glass medicine jar or The Bride of Frankenstein on 8 mm film.
If you're an eBay seller, The eBay Price Guide will help you to anticipate how much an item will sell for. If you're a buyer, you be able to see at a glance which categories tend to be overpriced, where to find the best bargains, and how to bid so that you're more likely to get what you want.
Whether you're selling cell phones, a pair of used Levi's, or grandma's ancient (and dusty) vase, you'll find this book and software kit indispensable in your quest to set or get the right price on eBay.
The companion CD contains a demo version of HammerTap's DeepAnalysis auction research software, which sorts through licensed eBay data and statistics for all eBay market sectors to reveal market trends so sellers can develop strategies for success. The CD also includes The eBay Appetizer, an eBooklet that describes how to get started on eBay, as well as The Seller's Guide and The Auction Accelerator, with lessons from a seasoned Internet business coach. Users will receive 20 percent off their first three months' subscription to DeepAnalysis as well.

The eBay Price Guide.......2007-10-14
I was a little bit disappointed in this book. It did not have in it what I was looking for. I guess it was a bit much of me to think that this book would be all inclusive of every item listed on eBay.
Great eBay Book!.......2006-11-13
Handy guide to eBay prices, with useful introductions to product categories to give you a good grounding. Keep a copy in your car when searching for inventory at yard-sales and auctions.
Highly recommend this book very well done !.......2006-09-21
I mainly use this book for inspiration as a quick reference point for what things are worth. When I take this book into someone's house and quote off some prices...I get allot of happy screams of joy.
Get this book....and get happy
This is one of my favorite ebay books, just love it. A must for anyone who lives and breathes ebay 24/7
It's a 'bible' no avid Ebay seller or buyer should be without.......2006-09-09
Whether you're a frequent Ebay seller or only dabble from time to time, every Ebay seller knows that setting prices is central to gaining a successful bid. The Ebay Price Guide: What Sells For What (In Every Category!) is the first reference to compile an array of items and their selling prices, from rare books to video games and jewelry. While it can't possibly hold every item ever listed, it does compile the most popular collectibles, and comes form an online auctioneer whose expertise covers some of the most trafficked Ebay categories. Each category's average sales price is listed along with high and average prices. Introductions to each section include risk assessments, tips on discounting, locating items on other venues, and more. It's a 'bible' no avid Ebay seller or buyer should be without.
Not so thorough..........2006-08-18
Although this compilation of items is a good start, it is not so thorough as to eliminate the need to browse e-bay for a more accurate idea of pricing. But, it's a good place to start and a great gift for any e-bay aficionado!
