this is everything i would ask for in a code book. it has details and is very comprehensive. this code book is great for keeping everything up to code.in reality sometimes compromises need to be make for pratical sake, electical inspectors i've dealt with understand that too. sure follow the book to perfectlly in a test exam but in real life something are not going to be happening.

Important Resource.......2007-02-19

Wanting to make internal wiring systems safer is the right thing to do. However, knowing how to meet that goal has never been more difficult. And with internal wiring systems more complex than ever, having a resource that provides correct answers about the NEC rules along with details in a simple explaination, is even more useful. The book cost to much but you got to have it

Not a training manual.......1999-09-24

In all states that I have held an electrician's license (20 years), it was mandatory to pass an electrical exam based on the current NEC. This is an invaluable resource and a must have if you are an electrician. But it is not a training manual. Homeowners and do-it-yourselfers are best served picking up a how to electrical book based on the current National Electrical Code. There are several here at Amazon.

New code book not ready for prime time.......1999-09-10

Here's a book that begs the question, "What were these guys thinking?" At NFPA, it seems the voltage is on but nobody's home. The new large format doesn't make the book any easier to interpret or information easier to find, perpetually sore subjects among users of past code books. The text might be larger, which is fine for us aging boomers with reading deficiencies, but that's not a good enough reason to radically alter a long-established format. Further, it seems NFPA intended this edition for office use, not field use. Those of us who carry the books in our trucks have ready-made spots for the old 5x7.5 editions. This big book is klutzy and subject to vastly more damage in everyday use.

And finally there's the price of this "deluxe" edition. The 1978 code book was $8, the 1996 book was about $35. There is simply no justification for the 1999 book, a virtual requirement for every informed electrician, to be scraping the $50 level. Will somebody please check the NFPA's grounding?

1999 NEC a more readable safety standard.......1999-03-05

The National Electrical Code (NEC)is published every 3 years by the National Fire Protection Association. It is offered as the minimum safety standard for electrical installations, but is not a law until adopted by the respective state or municipal governing body. The 1999 NEC has undergone some major revisions since the 1996 edition in order to improve the readability and understandability of a document which is not written in lay-mans terms. The NEC states that it does not intend to provide a design specification nor an instruction manual for the untrained. This re-write has been successful in helping to clarify and improve many areas, particular Article 250 on Grounding. Many exceptions have been removed from the 1996 version and re-written into a "positive" text in the 1999 edition, helping to reduce some of the confusion. The larger format of the 1999 NEC makes it easier reading, and makes the tables much more usable.

Certainly, additional study and supplemental references are essential in order to fully comprehend the meaning of the NEC and the intended application in our every day wiring installations. As a certified electrical instructor and licensed electrial inspector, I use the NEC every day and have found that the 1999 edition is an improvement over the 1996 edition.

I need the Massachusetts Electrical Code.......1999-02-04

Dear Amazon, nice to see you carry this all important book, but as a Massachusetts Electrician it is useless to me. We are required to follow the NEC with the Massachusetts supplement. That would be nice to see on your list.

As an engineer that lives and dies through a working knowledge of cause and effect, I have impatiently read through many books crying of our toxic environment with only bits and pieces of truth and the rest filled in with passionate fluff. This book, however, is well researched, using primarily professional medical and federal study information to show us the increasingly hopeless degree of the problem, a beautiful timeline showing/inferring a whole host of cause and effect issues, as well as a better path to prepare us for healthier living. As a result of this book, I researched several detox programs, setting on DrNatura's Detox Diet. After just 30 days on the colon cleanse/detox I had my eyeglass restrictions lifted from my license (which I've had for 20+ yrs). A more amplified section on how to find out your toxicity as well as your vitamin and mineral balance would really make this an excellent book. Still, I gave it a 5, since it is the best of the 7 books I've read on the subject of profiteering homicide by the chemical and processed food giants of the west.

Just over a century ago, the Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. According to author Randall Fitzgerald it was this legislation that reassured the American public that the food and medicines they were consuming had been thoroughly tested and were safe to use. As it turns out nothing could be further from the truth! "The Hundred Year Lie" tells the sordid story of a century of deception and irresponsibility by the companies who process our food and manufacture the drugs and chemicals we use everyday. Indeed, the promise of "a better life through chemistry" is a notion we all need to examine and seriously reconsider.
At a bare minimum, reading "The One Hundred Year Lie" will make you stop in your tracks and think about all of the different chemicals you are ingesting and coming into contact with every day. It is not just the voluminous amounts of additives in your food that you must worry about. Stop and consider all of the personal care products you use on a daily basis. Add to that the over-the-counter and prescription drugs you may be taking and all of the household cleaning products that you employ. Then think about all of the chemicals that are applied to our clothing, our bedding and to our furniture. Next, you might want to consider the flouride in your municipal water supply and maybe the highly toxic arsenic in all of that pressure treated lumber around your property. Now if you are a pretty unscientific sort like me you will then appreciate Randall Fitzgerald's attempt to explain the concept of "synergy". Most people just take it for granted that the products they use must have been thoroughly tested and deemed completely safe to use. It is when you discover that the scientific community, the manufacturers themselves and various government regulators really have absolutely no idea how these different chemical concoctions are going react with each other in the real world that you just might become a bit concerned. On many different levels "The Hundred Year Lie" challenges the way we live our lives today and implores each of us as individuals and society in general to make the necessary changes before more damage is done. I simply cannot imagine that anyone who reads this book will not feel compelled to make some significant changes in his or her own lifestyle. In our never-ending quest for comfort and convenience we have done considerable damage to our our own personal well-being and to our environment. Some say the damage may be irreparable. This is a fascinating and well written book that is certainly worth your time and attention.

Essential reading for your health.......2007-03-24

This is a great book that details all the harmful substances you should be aware of in your daily life. The only thing could possibly be added is information on how to protect yourself from these dangers. But that would be another book entirely, and there are a few out there like The Recipe for Living Without Disease, by Dr. Vonderplanitz that serve that purpose.

Excellent book on RSI.......2006-11-10

This is by far the best source of information and guidance on RSI that I've ever seen. It's the only book (along with dr. Pascarelli's books) that explains the true causes of RSI symptoms. It will help you understand what's happening to you if you have RSI, and it will help you manage your symptoms and find appropriate treatment. It's a must-have book if you live in an area or country where RSI specialists are hard to find.

Career saving.......2006-07-13

When I was managing a software development group, a programmer on the team showed up at work one day with wrist braces. Turns out typing had become agony for him. He read this book, then diligently and conscientiously followed some of the recommended practices (strength training, yoga, serious workplace ergonomic changes). The wrist braces are gone, and his career has been saved.

You can't fix anything just by reading a book. You *can* fix things when you understand the problem and have some ways to combat it. This book can give you both.

This book sucks! It is not at all what I thought it was! This book is for linemen, who needs information about pole-line construction? Not Me! I need informatin on the National Electrical Code! A greater detail of the chapters in the book would have been very helpful. I oredered the National Electrical Code Handbook from the National Fire Protection Agency just to insure I will get what I truley need!

SAX's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials Ninth Edition-CD-ROM Version

The NST/Engineers, Inc. reviewer, an EPA First Responder, found the Ninth Edition of Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials-CD ROM version (SAX CD) to be a powerful database of easily retrievable, detailed, and pertinent information. The reviewer envisions the target users of the SAX CD deriving the most benefit to be: chemical operators, chemical process engineers, chemists, clinical toxicologists, fire companies, first responders, HAZMAT teams, industrial hygienists, plant managers, physicians, police departments, process safety managers, research professionals, risk management planners, safety engineers, transportation officers, and treatment storage and disposal facility (TSDF) personnel.

The 22,380 materials included are categorized at a minimum according to: Listing Name, Hazard Rating, Chemical Name, Molecular Formula, Molecular Weight, Chemical and Physical Properties, Synonyms, Toxicity Data with References, (instantly accessible by screen "pop-ups"), and Safety Profile.

Where available, NIOSH Recommended Exposure Limits, OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels, ACGIH Threshold Limit Values, (all expressed as Time Weighted Averages) and German MAK exposure limits are included. Armed with a laptop computer, as are most police and other emergency responders, the addition of this software will greatly decrease response time and reduce the confusion that routinely surrounds hazardous materials incidents. An increase in facility and public safety will be provided by the fingertip access to the knowledge base in the SAX CD .

The SAX CD works on both PC and Macintosh platforms.

What is wrong with people? Why do you think there is some conspiracy to hurt children with immunizations?

The development of vaccines is the most important invention in the history of medicine. They have saved millions of lives - that is a fact.

There is always risk to any medical treatment - but parents who do not vaccinate their children are putting their children at risk for serious medical problems. Please do not put your trust in one or two people on the fringes of medicine who lack even a basic education in medicine. Why would you listen to such counsel? I truly do not understand...

When your car breaks down, do you take it to the grocery story? When your pipes get clogged, do you call your banker?
When your child is sick, do you take him to a political historian? I certainly hope not.

The author of this book has no medical education other than medical history. It was written with a political bent.

I read this book after I had already planned on not vaccinating. It still was a blessing. It has some heart wrenching stories about real families who were damaged by something that doctors say(really lie about) will protect you. My son had an adverse reaction to a vaccination. The doctors are either mis-informed or LIARS!!! Greedy for gain and they could care less about you. But I as a human being, who knows nothing about you is giving you advise: READ THIS BOOK AND OTHERS, DONT BE A FOLLOWER, YOUR CHILDRENS LIVES DEPEND ON IT, YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS ONE DAY, DONT EVER VACCINATE!!!!

A MUST READ BOOK-YOU WILL BE GLAD THAT YOU DID.

I am appalled that Amazon is so hard up for cash they must resort to taking blood-money from the corporations responsible for our children's nightmare. While we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars attempting to reverse the damage done to our children by this and other pharmaceutical companies, Amazon helps them to blow smoke to other unsuspecting parents and lull them into ignorant complacency regarding "government-recommended vaccinations". There is only ONE thing driving the govt's vaccination schedule, and that is MONEY.
And now these same companies add insult to injury (literally) by getting congress to pass laws to prevent them from owning up to their complicity in the damage done to our children?
Enough! Enough being a nation of sheep, all jumping off a cliff one after the other.
READ THIS BOOK and take it to heart! Your legislators (with few notable exceptions) don't care about your children, only their own deep pockets.

Parents or parents to be must read this!!.......2004-11-23

This book as well as the Sanctity Of Human Blood by Tim O'Shea were huge eye openers for my husband and I, in the area of vaccinations. We feel every parent needs to be informed on this subject. A Shot In The Dark goes into debth on the DTP vaccine and mainly focuses on the pertussis vaccine. The book will make you cry to hear the hundreds of stories of Pertussis vaccine damaged children and their families. There are thousands of children that are damaged by the pertussis vaccine each year and must of those cases are not even reported or noted. This book talks about reactions to the vaccine, the doctors who are must of the time unwilling to admit when a child has suffered a vaccine reaction and has permanent damage. It talks about the different forms of damage and how to recognize them. It talks about the vaccine manufacturers and the lack of testing done for safety on the pertussis vaccine. This book covers the tests and information that individules and some doctors have done that is for the must part covered up by manufacturers, laboratories, and doctors that don't want the truth out. Even though this book is over 10 years old the information is still true for today as nothing much has changed in administering the pertussis vaccine. Parents are still not told that a child can suffer convulations, seizures, collapse, SIDS, and learning disabilities to name a few. My children are not vaccinated. All three are in excellent health and have never had ear infections or any other health problems in which I had to give them any drug or antibotic. Please read this book, your childs future as well as yours may depend on it.

Still Relevant in DTaP age.......2004-10-19

I heard about this book soon after my daughter had a vaccine reaction in 2002. I figured the contents might not apply to me since my child got the DTaP vaccine (with acellular pertussis) instead of the no-longer-in-use DTP with whole cell pertussis. I finally decided to read it in late 2004.

I couldn't believe how very relevant and applicable the book is to my situation in 2004. Yes, this book IS STILL VERY RELEVANT in a world where DTP has been replaced by DTaP.

How is it still relevant?

In my case, my child had inconsolable high pitched screaming for 6 hours straight after her 4 mo. shots. As explained in the book, high pitched screaming is a known and well-documented adverse effect of the whole-cell pertussis component of DTP. My child did not get DTP but instead got "the safer" DTaP, and yet this reaction still occurred. There were also longer term side effects that this book would categorize as neurological. My infant stopped making eye contact for over a week, and my previously vocal and communicative infant stopped cooing for nearly 4 weeks!! How I prayed every day God would give me my baby back!

When I reported the longer term side effects to my doctor, she dismissed it as "anecdotal" suggesting there is nothing in the data to support that a lack of eye contact or loss of cooing could be caused by any vaccine. I couldn't believe the disrespect and disregard for my report of the facts of what had occurred. This book offered some relief and support in this regard because I know now that I am not alone. And this is unfortunate. Other parents of children who have vaccine reactions are treated similarly by their pediatricians.

I concur with asking the question posed by the author, exactly when did the medical community switch from listening carefully to reports of symptoms from parents and patients and begin to listen only to published reports from controlled studies - most of which are funded by organizations with a conflict of interest? Something is very wrong with a system that denies and dismisses the valid reports of concerned parents who have witnessed changes in their child post-vaccination.

In my case, prior to reading all I could get my hands on about vaccines, I was ready to agree with the doctor that my daughter should continue with all other vaccines eliminating only the pertussis vaccine. Then, just before the next round of shots were given, a last minute record review indicated that the leg that had swollen up like a goose egg was not even the leg where the DTaP was administered!! Polio and Hib went into that leg!!

So what a quandry for this parent, indeed! Which toxin caused the swollen leg? Which toxin/vaccine/component caused the loss of eye contact? Which caused the cessation of verbal cooing and the ongoing restlessness and the changes in sleep patterns? Was it acellular pertussis? Or was it diptheria, tetanus, hib, or polio? Or could it have been some ingredient in the vaccines, a preservative or adjuvant material? Could it have been carryover materials from the human fetal cells or animal cells used in manufacturing? No one will ever know. Nor will answers ever come as long as the medical community continues to deny that vaccine reactions occur.

The last sentence of the book reads, "The time has come to become educated about vaccines."

I completely agree with the author on this point and think others will too after reading this book and others on the topic of vaccine safety.

If you work in the field of Child Protection/Family Services and feel discouraged and/or burned out, this is a must read. I read it on vacation last week, I could not put it down! It is well written and provides lots of case examples. The material is especially appealing and accessible if one is familiar with Solution Focused Brief Therapy principles. Bravo and well done to the authors!

A good text for introducing what you need to understand before taking a course on swiftwater rescue. Combined with the guidance of experienced instructors, this book will be a good start to your water rescue career. As always, though, don't expect it to substitute for field work and safety sense...
