Customer Reviews:
How to be your best.......2007-09-10
I picked this up originally on a hospital library display wondering what could I learn about marketing MY practice. This book has practical, down-to-earth and simple ( and economic) tools to help find your referral sources and how to reach them to promote your practice. It does what it sets out to do and then some.
I will reread this book, share it with my practice manager, partners etc so they can all realize how we each market our practice every day.
I feel that it contains useful information for practices of ANY size, ANY specialty any locale.
After reviewing the book, reading the beginning chapters and a few of particular interest, I realized I needed my own copy.
Excellent Resource.......2006-03-08
This book is an excellent resource. I am the business manager and wife of a physician with a fairly new solo practice. I stay busy implementing many of the simple, practical recommendations in this book. Not only have we increased volume and income, but our office runs more smoothly. Thanks, Dr. Baum.
outstanding.......2005-12-31
Neil Baum's book contains the sum of all other advice that I had ever heard before I bought it and I was surprised how much more it contains. No wonder nobody recommended it to me. Every resident should receive it as a graduation gift from her or his program director. It is an absolut must for private practice. Consultants are not going to tell you more than what you will read in this book, they just charge you 20 times as much. The single most valuable book for marketing your own practice.
A Doctor Needs Only Dr. Baum's Book and a Phone Book!.......2000-06-16
When a new doctor starts practice,he only needs two books: a phone book and Doctor Neil Baum's book on practice marketing.
Forget expensive "consultants"--you pay for their education; sort of like someone taking your watch and then telling you what time it is. Doctor Baum is obviously not a full-time consultant; he is practicing MD who has been "in the trenches", in real-life practice, every day for several decades. He knows what works and what doesn't because he wrote the checks.
If his book were written when I started practice in 1977, I would be long-retired by now, sipping beer and catching lots of fish at Green Lake, WI. Because the book wasn't available then, I only get one week per year ( and not many fish). Get this book-if you are at the start, middle or even end of your practice. There is nothing like it!
A Must For Physicians.......2000-06-15
We recommend Dr. Baum's book, "Marketing Your Clinical Practice" to all of our medical practices, particularly physicians who are starting up a new practice.
Dr. Baum's tips on non traditional sources of referrals are outstanding and his book complements our philosophy, that being effective management equals good manners plus common sense.
We would highly recommend this book to any physician in need of enhancing his/her patient volume.

If you've always wished for a marketing guide that didn't take as long to read and digest as the actual marketing process itself, you'll love this itty-bitty crash course, which zooms in on four key areas: putting customers first (understanding your market and your customers' buying habits, building relationships and winning new customers), building strong products (improving and differentiating your products, developing a brand), maximizing publicity (planning a campaign, and advertising via print, radio, direct mail, and the Internet) and developing an overall strategy (thinking strategically, setting objectives, achieving goals, and gaining support). On every page, boxed "power tips," quickie case-studies, to-do checklists, and easy-to-follow flowcharts demystify the process. Granted, if you're looking for specific or in-depth guidance, you may find this book too general in its approach. But if you're looking for a thumbnail guide to the basics, it'll do just fine.
It's worth mentioning that the book is also part of reference publisher Dorling-Kindersley's Essential Managers series--20 itty-bitty books on business and career topics ranging from communication, leadership, and decision-making to the management of time, budgets, change, meetings, people, projects, and teams. Combining the For Dummies series' talent for breaking down a lot of information into bite-sized bits and sidebars with Dorling-Kindersley's signature, crisp graphics on a gleaming white backdrop, they don't represent the cutting edge of business thinking and they don't necessarily reflect any unique individual perspective.
Instead, it's as though someone collated the best general thinking on these 20 topics and rolled them out into 72 brightly designed and easy-to-read pages, studded along the way with boxed tips, color shots of a multiracial cast of "coworkers" animatedly hashing through the workplace issues of the day, and a self-test of one's skills in the topic at hand on the last few pages of each volume. Again, they're not for anyone looking for in-depth or focused help on any of the subjects they cover, but they're perfect as a quickie general-interest reference... and let's face it, they're so cute, and look so smart in a neat little stack or row, that you'll probably want to buy a whole bunch to give to your entire department or staff. --Timothy Murphy

Customer Reviews:
Solid little guide for small retail businesses on marketing effectively!.......2006-12-17
Small businesses have three general areas they have to concern themselves with if they want to stay in business: (1) creating and distributing a product &/or service, (2) accounting & bookkeeping, and (3) marketing. The third area, marketing, involves promotion, public relations, advertising, and sales. I mention all this because effective marketing (the title of this book) involves merging the THREE areas so they work together AND using all FOUR aspects of the marketing area. I didn't notice much, if any, discussion in this book on promotion or sales. And, in my humble opinion, advertising was given far too much discussion as a way for a business to market.
The book is split into four parts:
1. Putting customers first
2. Building strong products
3. Maximizing publicity
4. Developing a strategy
My favorite parts of the book were parts 1 and 4. That is where the most generic points were made regarding effective marketing. In Part 2 the book addressed small businesses that sell products. And that was well done. However, as a result of Part 2 talking about retail store marketing to the exclusion of service business marketing, I would have liked the book better if it had been titled "Retail Marketing Effectively." I suspect that an attorney, CPA, or other professional seeking help on marketing would be disappointed with this book.
I don't know that I would have devoted an entire part of the book to public relations. That is a nice subject to cover, but where was the information on promotion and sales? There is more to marketing than just advertising and public relations.
I realize this book was written back in 2000 or 2001, but it only devotes 4 pages to using the Internet for marketing purposes. I would have liked the book better if it had provided more coverage on this subject. eBay was around back then and wasn't even mentioned by the author. 4 stars!
You Can Market As Effectively As I Do.......2005-06-22
Moi Ali, has written a great book in Marketing Effectively. This book is one of a series of very in depth instructional books written for business women and men.
If you are looking for a step by step book that is completely beneficial to the development of your marketing insights get ready for some simple but profound guidelines.
From putting customers first to developing a strategy for your business, the areas that are covered in this amazingly small mini-book are yours to keep as long as you use them. It seems all of the Essential Managers books by DK are written to assist you throughout any phase of your development. I know you will enjoy this book so please let me know.

The Distance Manager: A Hands On Guide to Managing Off-Site Employees and Virtual Teams
ASIN: 1574442384 |
Book Description
Point. Click. Done! What a world this would be if everything worked as easily and efficiently as your TV set's remote control. Today's managers could definitely use such convenience in their day-to-day dealings. Many of them face far too many responsibilities for one person. Traditional "empowerment," allowing support staff to take on some of the overload, often produced less-than-desirable results. Even so, some form of empowerment has become an absolute necessity for maxed-out managers. If you suffer from nagging, stressful management overload... Managing by Remote Control now brings you relief! Peter R. Garber, a manager of teamwork development, offers new concepts and techniques to make empowerment practical. He tells why and how past methods failed-and replaces those with more effective measures. Eventually, your capable support staff will make decisions, and solve problems as if a manager were always present and calling the shots. By comparing his techniques and philosophies to the functions of a TV set's remote control, Garber takes an entertaining and humorous approach to the subject. Even those who would rather watch TV than read a business book will find Managing by Remote Control entertaining-and informative. Don't wait for rerun season-read it soon!
Customer Reviews:
Empowering by Remote Control.......2000-09-07
Peter Garber has written an interesting text on structuring an organization to empower its employees. Remote Control Management seems to be a relatively new idea with not much to be found about it outside of telecommuting. Garber suggests that an organization can empower its employees by structuring in a way that takes advantage of distance between employees. In this configuration, a company has little choice but to implement empowering strategies and Garber explains how to do this. Some of the anecdotes are a little too long but they do explain the key points and the exercises and tables are very good references.

Customer Reviews:
Helpful information in this book.......2006-05-31
7 Steps to successful selling is a quick read, I was able to get through it in one evening.
I found the emphasis placed on activity rather than time spent to be useful, as well as the process for conducting sales appointments.
I was slightly disappointed in the reliance on referrals to provide prospects, while numerous authors discuss the importance of referral marketing-- it is clearly the optimal method; the method for gathering referrals given here is nothing new.
I do believe this is a worthwhile book to read, as you will get some useful pointers in it, it does leave something to be desired.
Perfect for lead generation via phone.......2004-02-05
This book is perfect if you are in a situation where you can use a telephone to generate leads- any direct sales professional would benefit by reading this book. I would not strongly recommend it for a home based party business but it definitely teaches you how to successfully get a yes out of potential customers. This book is perfect for insurance sales, telemarketers, etc.
Overcome Telephone Reluctance.......2003-09-16
This book is a must for anyone in direct sales. Bild gives you the exact words to say to elicit predictable responses from your prospect. Using her technique has made me more confident on the phone, and I am seeing great results. I also recommend her 2-CD set, available from her web site.
Great Book.......2002-10-22
This book has taught me how to truly work less and make more. My income has increased 40% by incorporating
the information that I learned in Traci Bild's book.

Customer Reviews:
Absolutely the Best.......2005-11-25
This is absolutely the best book out today (and, it has been out for 15 years) on this subject. It is more thorough than anything Barna has written, although he writes good stuff as well. The writers of this book are acknowledged leaders in their fields. My marketing degree was filled with books written by Mr. Kotler. He is simply one of the most knowledgeable in this field. So, if you want an understanding of what the marketing approach can provide for your ministry (it is not selling) then take a chance on this book. It will change your viewpoint forever. As for Unbiblical Intrusion of World, if you want to fritter away your life with your head in the sand so be it. If you want to give your ministry new life, then read this book and open up the possibilities. In fact, I doubt if Unbiblical read this book. Pray tell how he can review? William
Ministry Marketing 101! You need this book........2004-08-15
This book will help you understand ministry marketing. One of the authors (Kotler) practically invented social markeing. This form of marketing is not for tangible products, but marketing ideas and behaviors. You need to understand the basic principles of marketing to take full advantage of it. The book is sound marketing, it's not marketing that make's something worldly--it's worldly people. If you are godly, so will your marketing be.
Helpful look at ways to market the church effectively.......2003-10-11
The phrase "church marketing" makes many people of faith cringe, but it is an aspect of our outreach and evangelism efforts that we need to be intentional about. Effective mission and outreach begins with prayer and a vision, but having a grasp on the logistics of making a positive impression to our guests is important.
The message of hope in the Lord does not change, but the way we communicate that message to the emerging culture of unchurched and marginally churched people needs to be adapted in order to effectively reach them.
This book will help clergy, lay leaders, and ministry teams to do just that. It is not a cure all, but the book is one of many tools that will help congregations who are truly dedicated to reaching people effectively.
Unbiblical Intrusion of World.......2003-02-12
There has been no Biblical proof yet offered which shows that Jesus was a marketing man, or that marketing is to be part of the growth of Jesus' Kingdom.
See my critique in Testing the Claims of Church Growth.
This is good marketing, but poor theology.
