Good Presentation of Yet Another RCA Method.......2006-01-07
This was a good-great book for the Apollo method but as one who has read a lot of these types of books, e.g., TQM, I found the sales pitch a little strong. The explanations were excellent with a step-by-step development, but I see nothing special here. Almost any RCA book will provide similar material. An alternative to this book could be: "Root Cause Analysis A tool for total quality management," or "Quality Improvement Toos & Techniques." The later is an excellent overview of the methods available for investigating problems --- and it is fairly inexpensive. I recommend Dean Gano's book if the Apollo RCA is your flavor.
A unique approach.......2004-01-22
Apollo is the name given by the author to his unique approach to root cause analysis. I'm assuming this (Apollo) explains why there is a naked man on the cover, either that or this is the most unique author photo I have ever seen. The book focuses on causal relationships, emphasizing that there are often many causes (factors) contributing to an undesirable outcome. The author's insights on casual relationships and human behavior are extraordinary, it is obvious he is passionate about this topic and has had extensive experience with it. In addition to explaining " A new way of thinking", the author details specific tools (his own version of a cause-and-effect chart) that are the core of the Apollo method. And just when I started thinking that it would be great if there was software available to do this, he mentions that he has such a product available.
There were a few things I didn't like about the book. In fact, after receiving the book, the combination of the naked dude on the cover (which still creeps me out) and the opening paragraph in the "How to read this book" section which you just have to say "Duh!" to, almost convinced me to not read the book at all. In addition, the branding of "Apollo" throughout the book ( frequent references to "the Apollo method", "the Apollo process", "Apollo tools") made some sections read like scripts from an infomercial. These are minor gripes though, and I'm glad I got by them and took the time to read this excellent book
Great introductory work.......2002-05-02
I teach root cause analysis and have been a practicing failure analyst for nearly 15 years. I've had the priviledge of working with some very expert people in this field. Dean Gano does a great job taking what can be a very confusing and intimidating task and making it clear and understandable.
Dean Gano has been honing his craft for many years and is well respected in the failure analysis community. The only criticism I have is that the process is more geared to providing supporting evidence for possible causes of events. There needs to be more discussion of the need for refuting evidence.
Cause analysis at its best is a structured application of scientific principles (referred to as the scientific method). What the scientific method requires is that you pose a hypothesis (a possible explanation for what has happened) and then gather evidence to support or refute the hypothesis.
I recommend that anyone interested in a better understanding of how refuting evidence is used read "The Rational Manager" by Chuck Kepner and Ben Tregoe. It's the foundational work that provides a complete solution for resolving concerns (problems, decisions, etc). The "Rational Manager" has you break things down and deal with them separately. Dean Gano's book helps you see the larger picture. The other book I use as required reading for our root cause analysts is "Managing the Risks of Organizational Accidents" by James Reason. Together, these three references will help you to significantly improve your ability to resolve problems and will be the three books you will refer to over and over again.
A "Must Read" for anyone investigating failure incidents.......2002-02-02
After several years of pumping equipment failure analysis engineering, this is by far the best book I've read about the failure analysis and problem solving process. Dean Gano's approach covers the full spectrum of associated issues in a very efficient and flexible manner. He challenges a lot of failure analysis "conventional wisdom" in a very convincing manner, truly creating "a new way of thinking" that should greatly improve failure solutions.
Excellent for doing Med Error Root Cause Analysis..........2001-06-28
Read several books and this seems to get to the heart of the matter in the least amount of time. Book is well written, to the point and will get you going within 24 hours.
Book Description
This timely book expands on Viktor Frankl's seminal Man's Search for Meaning, examining the book's concepts in depth and widening the market for them by introducing an entirely new way to look at work and the workplace. Alex Pattakos, a former colleague of Frankl's, brings the search for meaning at work within the grasp of every reader using simple, straightforward language. The author distills Frankl's ideas into seven core principles: Exercise the freedom to choose your attitude; Realize your will to meaning; Detect the meaning of life's moments; Don't work against yourself; Look at yourself from a distance; Shift your focus of attention; and Extend beyond yourself. By demonstrating how Dr. Frankl's key principles can be applied to all kinds of work situations, Prisoners of Our Thoughts opens up new opportunities for finding personal meaning and living an authentic work life.

The gift of a 'meaningful pause'..........2007-10-19
This book is the `pause' that is needed for all of us as we live in this world of constant change and chaos. It takes us away from the `busy-ness' of it all and gives us time to reflect on what is ultimately important to us and in our lives...the meaning within each moment. And it is that `meaning' so many of us may have lost in our lives and our work which causes us to react to situations (and to others) rather than being fully present and aligned with our values.
If you have ever been challenged by change, relationships, a stressful life situation, a seemingly meaningless job, or something within yourself you wish were different, you may have found yourself behind bars - as a `prisoner of your thoughts' - believing things about yourself (or others) that are not real. Dr. Pattakos offers you the `key' to unlocking that `prison' and invites you to begin your journey to the freedom found in meaning.
This is not just another `how to' book or `self-help' program that will `transform' your life, but rather it is a catalyst for understanding the deeper part of what drives you. Drawing on solid theories, this book is written in a powerfully practical manner that can be immediately applied by answering the questions Dr. Pattakos poses throughout the book, and by working the exercises at the end of each chapter. Please - do not gloss over these! For it is in the `working' of these exercises and the `answering' of the challenging questions that the real personal discovery and growth happens. Let your learning `cook' for a while...and then...take action! Apply what you have learned and share it with others.
Whether you are a leader, an employee, a parent, a partner, or a fierce independent, this book will guide you through the principles needed to find meaning in your life and in your work. Although the book is written from a work perspective, keep in mind that we are all `working' at something and these principles are here for us to use as we seek out and accomplish the meaningful work we were meant to do and the meaningful lives we were meant to live!
Why do we feel so bad?.......2007-09-25
It's a question that each of us has asked at some point in our lives. It's been contemplated and argued for decades by some of the greatest minds in religion, philosophy and science. The feeling had become so prevalent in society, that in 1992, Forbes magazine dedicated its 75th Anniversary issue to answering this ominous question.
We live in a world of unprecedented abundance; arguably, the most "prosperous" time in the history of mankind. Yet so many of us lead lives of unhappiness and despair. The paths we have chosen have filled our pockets while emptying our souls of purpose and meaning. Victor Frankl addressed this troubling paradox through his life's work. Alex Pattakos picks up the torch and carries Frankl's message to a new generation.
It has been many years since I first read Victor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning". To this day, it has been one of the most influential books I have ever purchased. As a survivor of the Nazi death camps, Frankl had every reason to "feel bad". He was surrounded my torture and murder - atrocities which most of us will never fully imagine. Yet through this incredible suffering, Frankl found meaning and a sense of renewed purpose.
Although most of us will never face the horrors of a concentration camp, we still reside in our own self-imposed prisons as a result of unfulfilled jobs, failed relationships, and misguided searching. Alex Pattakos' book, "Prisoners of our Thoughts" rekindles the fire of Frankl's work with practical application to today's world.
Pattakos expands upon the significance of Frankl's philosophy of one's "choice in response". As Frankl believed, "Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our happiness." Being responsible for our own choices in times of hardship often comes with great challenge. However, these challenges provide the source of authentic meaning. As Pattakos points out, these times of suffering provide the greatest test to our courage and that "courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness and ability to walk through the fear - to tread, if you will, into the darkness of life's labyrinth of meaning."
Pattakos' 7 Principles provide a simple and concise framework for applying the essence of Frankl's teachings to our current "condition" whether it be in our professional or personal life or both. His references to Frankl's work are timely and insightful. The visualizations, exercises and points of reflection which Pattakos details throughout the book provide additional assistance in connecting these important concepts to the applicable points in our lives.
As we integrate Victor Frankl's teachings into our life, we begin to realize that the freedom to choose our response in any given situation makes us a product of our decisions and not of our conditions. With that being said, "feeling so bad" truly becomes a question of choice.
Another great book!.......2007-05-30
Alex Pattakos is a skilled, sensitive writer who captures the essence of Dr. Frankl's thought on each and every page. The seven Core Principles are simple, easy to understand, and yet they cut right to the essence of realizing personal potential. I found the quote..."When we miss the meaning in our work life, we miss the life in our work"..to be especially helpful when working with people trying to overcome their addictive practices. Focusing on the importance of their work has been a big fisrt step!
A Great Challenge to Rethink Yourself and Your Work........2007-04-01
I have used "Prisoners of Our Thoughts" several times now in my Organizational Behavior classes in a local MBA program. It has always been received with great respect, and has, without exception, inspired students to rethink their career, their daily activities, and their plans for the future.
Very helpful in this book are the end-of-chapter reflection exercises, which encourage readers to think of their own personal circumstances and how they deal with them.
Although not used as a research foundation, Prisoners of Our Thoughts has served as an important work of balance in my own two recently produced books, "The Awakened Leader: One Simple Leadership Style That Works Every Time, Everywhere," and "Spirituality in the Workplace: What it is; Why it Matters; How to Make it Work for You" (the last one co-authored with Dr. Satinder Dhiman and Dr. Richard King).
Both of these books elaborate on the mindset that we can change our circumstances, and with that, the circumstances of those that are linked to us. Both of these books also leave room for readers to reflect at the end of each chapter.
Prisoners of our Thoughts is absolutely a positive experience for the serious reader who seeks inspiration in life.
Delivering Deeper Meaning.......2006-11-22
"Dr. Meaning" has it right here. With relevant examples and straightforward language, Dr. Pattakos connects our desires to search for meaning in all we do with a plan to make it happen. This is not a book of simple platitudes and 'feel good' sayings - this is a book rich in the application of Viktor Frankl's principles, applied to how we approach our work lives.
I will be using these principles for my own self-awareness and with my clients. Thank you for taking the time to write "the book that needed to be written"!

The step-by-step scientific approach to attracting financial and spiritual wealth
• This is the 100-year-old book that inspired Rhonda Byrne's bestselling
The Secret
• Explains the precise series of practical steps that, if followed, guarantee prosperity
• Reveals the secrets that underlie today’s success and prosperity movements
In his bestselling book, Wallace D. Wattles explains that “universal mind” underlies and permeates all creation. Through the process of visualization we can engage the law of attraction--impressing our thoughts upon “formless substance” and bringing the desired object or circumstances into material form. The author emphasizes the critical importance of attitude: only by aligning ourselves with the positive forces of natural law can we gain unlimited access to the creative mind and its abundant rewards.
The Science of Getting Rich holds the secret to how economic and emotional security can be achieved in a practical, imaginative, and noncompetitive way, while maintaining a loving and harmonious relationship with all of life. By living in accordance with the positive principles outlined in this book, we can find our rightful place in the cosmic scheme and create for ourselves an environment in which to grow in wealth, wisdom, and happiness.
Rhonda Byrne, in her book and DVD,
The Secret, tells how a 100-year-old book entered her life and changed it forever. Here is that book. Written in 1910,
The Science of Getting Rich inspired Byrne to create her bestselling DVD, and subsequently, to write her book. She has said that it “gave me a glimpse of
The Secret. It was like a flame inside of my heart. And with every day since, it's just become a raging fire of wanting to share all of this with the world.”
“There is a science of getting rich. It is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches. Once a person learns and obeys these laws, he will get rich with mathematical certainty.”
--Wallace D. Wattles,
The Science of Getting Rich

Well worth the reading!!!.......2007-09-27
I have been reading similar books (including the secret), but as the little red start sticker says on the book "Secret beyond the secret" is true.
I truly understood what Mr. Wattles talks about and this is the first time I really thought of it and said "AHA" thats how it works!
Well worth the read, one of my favorite books I re-read every month!!!
Secret behind the Secret........2007-09-27
Though the author was not rich in the traditional sense, He does present an interesting view of what it is to be rich. The book is worth reading.
The Secret of The Secret.......2007-09-24
Great book if you are interested in the inspiration behind The Secret. To think that the author wrote the book in 1910 just goes to show that The Secret isn't really a Secret at all but rather a philosophy which has been part of human consciousness for a very long time. Sadly for Wallace D. Wattles he died very soon after writing the book, so I gather it didn't work for him!
Wattles is Wild!.......2007-09-06
This was a very informative and inspirational book well worth reading numerous times. It is impossible to get a hand on an original, 1910, copy, very valuable. Great job Wally!
A good read and absolutely right on!.......2007-05-27
Wattles died in 1911, yet he writes about space travel, electric cars, energy from wind and sun,and microwave technology. Hygenic health practices and organic farming are also mentioned. I want to know more about this guy! He writes with a good sense of humor and his ideas work. Now I know what I was doing wrong and the changes he suggests made the difference--my bank account is growing and I'm buying a vacation home!

..........and Finally.......2007-10-03
....at last I really do think I've found the book I've been looking for & if you're reading this & thinking will "this one" help "me" achieve my aims at getting my life on the move to becoming successful - then I say unequivocally - YES!!, this is the one for you.
I've read hundreds of so-called self-help books both modern & old and Brian Tracy's "Goals" sums up ALL of the books I've ever read on the subject. It's like a hundred books all in one covering everything from Motivation, Confidence, Time Management, Self Belief & Worth & oh yes & how to set realistic & achievable Goals!
The beauty with all of these requisites for success is that we all have these qualities to one degree or another & Brian inspires us by telling us that any one of these attributes is "learnable". So no matter where you find yourself today on what "may appear" to be a long road, you can start straight away.
This ought to be the very last book you buy on the subject, but before you read (& more importantly re-read) it, make sure you have a fresh note-book (preferably A4) & scribe to hand. The book is jam packed with all the essential information to kick you off in the right direction the minute you start reading. If you feel you really must do some more research then there is an extensive bibliography at the back.
The book ends with a summery of the 21 successful tips in setting & achieving these goals. Also there is a summery to be found at the end of each chapter for easy future reference.
Written in a modern, clear, interesting, easy readable style & language. It's broken down into easily digestible chunks in such a way that makes you want to read a little bit more. You never stop learning & it's never too late to start [something new].
Don't be put off or judge the book by the BOLD but plain looking & unattractive cover. It's Brian's message that counts & he very cleverly uses famous quotes from the Greats of the past.
Setting Goals.......2007-09-15
I give this book a 4 because I feel that it is more for the outside worker than it is for an indepentpent worker. I found a lot that seemed to be for the worker who has a "boss" than me being my own boss. However, I read the book through, then reread it looking more into it. I did come across things that I feel will help as long as followed through. The tasks are reasonable in doing. Does it seem hard to make a list of things to accomplish today? Right there you have set goals and followed through. There is a lot more in there, it will help you go from daily goals to weekly, monthly and yearly goals. I would recommend that purchasing his book "Eat That Frog!", they go hand in hand. Both books set on my desk and get looked at daily, to make sure I am following through and creating better habits of myself, to make better habits for my sales. Goals!, will get you going, teaching how to go get your sales instead of waiting and hoping for them to just come to you.

The Steps to Take.......2007-08-06
I loved his frog book but this is just great too. It is an outline on how to really write goals that you need and want to make changes in your personal and career life. Not too fluffy like some self help books. If you are looking to make changes in your life and need help putting together a map to get where you want to.
Good luck with everything you.
Buy This Book - It Will Surprise You.......2007-07-24
Excellent book - includes some basic information as well as some great techniques for success. This is the best Brian Tracy book that I've read so far. It actually caused a paradigm shift for me in how I view goals and goal setting. As always, Brian presents the information in a way that unlocks the meaning right before your eyes.

Rediscover the original version of Wallace D. Wattles's 1910 classic, The Science of Getting Rich--the forerunner of every personal finance and self-help book ever written. Explore the principles that have shown generations of readers the way to riches and fulfillment in life.
"The book, as it turns out, is about getting rich - not only in terms of money but in every possible way, including relationships and health. As I read, it became clear to me that what Wattles was presenting was actually the science of life. He wrote The Science of Getting Rich in 1910 for the coal miners in his area, so the book is quite short and the language is simple. He doesn't get into philosophies or theories. He doesn't explain why or how it works. He just says, 'Do what I say and your life will completely change.'"
--Rhonda Byrne, executive producer of The Secret, as quoted in You've Got To Read This Book!
Download Description
This book will without any doubt change your life, by changing your mind about the concept of "money". So many of us were brought up with the idea of money as a finite resource, which you had to compete for. This book is desgined to release every preconcieved idea that is holding us all back from wealth. The basic premise of this book is that becoming wealthy is a science, that once understood, and replicated will create wealth in everyone's life. Wealth is as infinite as the creative mind. Create ideas, take action and abundance will flow.

The Original - Still Inspiring the Sincerest Form of Flattery.......2007-10-16
Can there be any truth to the concepts expressed in this book originaly published in the early 1900"s? I read it a while back and still find myself thinking about the alternative theories expressed in the book ... and recycled in a thousand and one personal motivation books since.
Great Read.......2007-02-09
Don't be fooled, this book is difficult to read and comprehend. However, for those willing to tread the waters of early 1900s writing styles, the message in this book is wonderful and can potentially change your life.
If you are interested in the money aspect of the law of attraction, you may also want to read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill and "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth" by Phillip Collinsworth.
Are you ready to better your life and finances easily?.......2007-01-19
This book if followed exactly how written can change your life forever with huge positive results. I suggest reading with a very open mind.
Financial Success through creative thoght.......2006-05-26
The "Thinking Stuff" which Wallace Wattles declares, permeates the universe really caught my attention. The noted theologian, Emanuel Swedenborg refers to this "Thinking Stuff" as the Divine Wisdom in the book Divine Love and Wisdom, (published in Amsterdam in 1763).
I agree with the premise of Wattles book and as I reflect upon my life I can see where the Lord has indeed blessed me in ways I had desired.
Doesn't Work.......2005-09-16
Wattles' philosopy is New Thought, popular at the turn of the 19th century. It is really just wishful thinking or magical thinking. It doesn't work. Just because you think something doesn't make it come true, and you should be glad, because some people think very unpleasant things. You aren't Harry Potter, and magical thinking won't get you what you want in life. As for Monism or the theory that God is in everything, that would mean that God also exists in evil things, which would mean that God is not all good, so Monism cannot be true. This is just an early self-help book that seeks to empower people who feel powerless by telling them they can get anything they want if they just think about it hard enough and long enough. It's a waste of your time. Wattles wrote the same thing about health, and he died at about age 51. If he had lived to be 100 in good health and been a multimillionaire himself, he theories would be more credible. In fact, one of the people Wattles criticized as being "competitive", John D. Rockefeller, did live to be 98 and was a multmillionaire, so who are you going to believe?

Church on Sunday, Work on Monday, Laura Nash and Scotty McLennan's guide to negotiating spiritual and economic priorities, can help corporations, churches, and seminaries tackle a difficult project. The authors' goal is to improve communication between the worlds of church and business. Much of their book, drawing on extensive research including case studies and interviews, defines the obstacles to such communication: liberal church leaders are dismissive of capitalism, conservative church leaders are overly indulgent of it, and business leaders are put off by both of these unsophisticated economic perspectives. Nash and McLennan offer questions for "Reflection" and "Action" at the end of each chapter, and they provide a few general suggestions, particularly for churches and seminaries, that might improve communication between the two worlds. The book devotes most of its energy to diagnosis, however. The prescription is yet to come. --Michael Joseph Gross
Book Description
Must business people leave their Christian values at church?
While many business people have a strong and growing interest in the relationship between work and spirit, few find the church to be a resource in their explorations. How can business people live out their faith at work? And how can the church respond more effectively to business peoples needs?
Church on Sunday, Work on Monday takes the "spirituality at work" movement to the next level, offering practical advice on how business people can find and develop better resources within Christian communities. Nash and McLennan assess the distance between pew and pulpit, articulate how the church is turning off business and professional people, and make concrete recommendations on how church leaders and lay business people can work together in partnership to bridge the gap. They also offer practical help for business people who wish to nurture the soul, create harmony, connect with community, and perform ethically on the job.

A Few Steps Across the Chasm.......2006-12-23
This book delves into the highly unresearched area of business and religion. The result is that at best, this book can only help start to help develop the construct. Although the authors provide a fair assessment about a portion of the divide, it is obvious that the breadth of denominations explored is minimal so unless you are in a few specific metro areas or in the northeast, you may scratch your head a little while reading this.
Some of the points are certainly valid for describing why there is such a large separation of church and state, but overall they are lacking. I don't think there is enough substantive points for a person to actually apply much of what is contained.
There is an underlying criticism of secular spirituality while simultaneously acknowledging the success of the approach. I think their criticism of the church body for accentuating the gap with highly divisive interpretations of the Bible is fairly accurate.
Although spirituality and religion are separate terms for most people today, there is a resistance by the authors to embrace this change. There reasoning is not exactly faulty since there is a need for religion, but a bit narrow in fearing that religion is being marginalized by its brother (or sister) spirituality.
The bottom line is that religion must change or face further scrutinization and unless absolution of power is achieved, that is unlikely. Some of the protestant groups have made much greater strides in this arena and the authors did not do those denominations enough justice.
The bottom line is that the best suited audience for this text are preachers, pastors, fathers, etc., and social researchers. Business executives will not likely benefit much from this. The reason is that the church must meet people where they are, not keep themselves holed up behind a wall trying to preserve their eroding power from a constituency that is leaving them in droves.
A cry into the wind . . ........2003-07-30
The challenge of fusing Christian values with business life. I find it very difficult to deal with individual moral value systems in the business world. So, as a manager, I developed a concept of Ethics is a Business Process in which clearly stated moral values of the company are inculcated throughout the corporation; in mission and vision statements, in slogans, in training, in policies and procedures. These values cannot be based on religion and still be welcoming to our increasingly multi-ethnic workforce here in the U.S. and around the world. Rather, I believe we must keep religion out of the ethical process.
Yet we know that individuals most often include their religious up-bringing in the list of "where I get my moral values." Usually listed are family, school, and religious institute. So how do we keep things separate while honoring the basis for our moral sources? Nash and McLennan posit that from a Christian point of view, the coping mechanisms are neither active nor developing synergy between faith and business. The wake-up call they wish to pronounce in this book is limited in that they really only address Christianity's view and interaction. While this is certainly a significant view, it is not a majority view and is becoming more of a minority view in our culture. This, therefore, limits the usefulness of this book to managers in the business world unless they can make the translation from Christianity to "any religious or cultural" group.
I found the book useful in outlining the difficulties faced by business people today. But I did not find hope for an easy or even difficult solution. Instead, I became more convinced than ever that we need to make religion a personal and PRIVATE affair and make sure that our business moral values are clearly stated in secular terms so that we as employees or service providers can decide on the appropriate interaction with the corporation. Today, science informs our moral values more eloquently than many religious institutions and therefore informed individuals turn to those sources whenever possible. As a business executive, I remain unconvinced that we can bring religious language into the multi-cultural workplace without creating severe strain and discomfort for the employees. If there is a homogeneous workforce of one culture and/or one religious faith, then there is no difficulty. Luckily, that is rarely the case. I find the multi-cultural environment to be most stimulating and intellectually preferable to a homogeneous workplace. So I vote for clearly defined secular moral values in the workplace. Keep religion out.
A bold book...........2001-11-05
"This is a bold book with a clear wake-up call to businesspeople and the result is a heartening and indispensable guide for anyone making critical decisions in business today."--Jeffrey L. Adapting their techniques for fostering creativity as a means to spiritual fulfillment for the workplace, the authors of The Artist's Way at Work have shown that people can thrive at their jobs when they take time to nurture their spirit and listen to their thoughts. The book features psychological guidance, anecdotes, and exercises to assist the reader in sorting out the multitude of happenings, commitments, and choices in one's life. Again, these authors of the enormously successful The Artist's Way recommend their fundamental technique of "morning pages"--a kind of free-form journaling--to unravel thoughts and feelings, focus energy, and direct action. The beautiful surprise of this deceivingly simple exercise is that it actually works! It's making the time to do morning pages that's the real battle. But, if you, like so many others, feel swept up by the tidal wave of our fast-paced, noisy culture, then the authors' slow and steady steps toward reclaiming the spiritual self are invaluable. Some of the suggestions and exercises are a bit out of touch with the complex, and often emotionally-charged, political maneuverings of corporate culture, but the aim of cultivating an individual's ingenuity and resourcefulness is effective and expertly structured. Overall, the authors' philosophy boils down to change that begins with a constantly emerging self. With this book's help, you'll not only find how that new self spawns clarity and grace, but how widely their effects can reverberate throughout the workplace. --Karen Karleski
Book Description
After the publication of the bestselling book The Artists' Way, Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan, co-creators of the country's most successful course on creativity, were often told that their techniques helped people achieve their business goals. This spurred them to refine the methods to help people perform more creatively and effectively at work. The program is revealed in The Artists' Way at Work: a twelve-week encounter with your own ingenuity, struggles, strengths and dreams -- as well as the political guidance to enable you to get things done.
Through powerful self-assessment exercises with intriguing titles such as "Power Inside vs. Power Outside," "Developing Creative Continuity," and "Finding Your Truth," readers learn to release their creative spirit at work and tap reserves of energy, vision, and passion. The Artists' Way at Work will help you excel in your job, launch the business of your dreams, or find the career you love. Best of all, you will learn to "live in the paradox" -- to develop a personal philosophy of excellence that sustains you, whatever the future holds.
The processes in this book are rooted in cutting-edge principles of human development, organizational behavior, and the arts. They have been rigorously tested among business audiences and will unleash a degree of satisfaction at work (and in life) you may never have believed possible. For every one of us who works, The Artists' Way at Work reveals a completely new way to thrive.

Works well for groups.......2007-07-24
These books were ordered to be used in a weekly group discussion. The response was well received.
Fair Warning, Preview the Book.......2006-03-30
Reading the book for a masters level creativity class so I started out a skeptic. While much of the reading in the class has turned out to be very interesting, this book just hasn't struck any chords for me.
Some of the poeple in the class seem to appreciate it so it gets an extra star... but I'd suggest reading some of it before picking it up. If it works for ya, go for it. Otherwise, be cautious.
working artist.......2005-07-25
This is the second Julia Cameron book I have read. It is very much like Artist's Way except it is for the artist in the work place. All of Cameron's books talk about the artist within but it is for those who are looking for self. Self is what you are going to find. It is getting rid of what is unimportant and focusing in on the important making a complete and happier person. I am not quite done with this book but have devoured it and shared it as I did with her first book.
Artists can be thriving (not starving) artists.......2005-03-21
After completing the self-study program with Julia Cameron's Artist's Way ... this work-oriented book helps artistic and creative souls find a way to breath life and express their creative fire on the job. Cameron's analogy of the dragon is a dep metaphor to the fears that stop us from being our true selves. Instead of bottling up all the intense energy ... Riding The Dragon ... draws out our intensity with constructive excercies, wisdom, and a proper channel to achieve positive results. Cameron is one of the best informal writing guides for all of us with a voice were excavating.
Motivational Psychobabble Crud.......2004-06-10
You've got to be kidding is right. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Bringing Improv into everyday life.......2003-03-11
This is a business book that's readable, useful and funny!
What a nice change. Joe Keefe offers you ways to bring some humor and life to your business meetings --and get better results to boot. I started using some of Joe's improv exercises to start our weekly meeting. The president of the organization complimented me for bringing energy and excitement to the meetings. (In truth, it wasn't me it was the improvs!) I love Joe's rule: Listen, agree, add and accept. We do some of the games at home as well. The kids love performing and it is helping them to exercise their imaginations and think quickly on their feet. This is a great book to help you think about the importance of having humor in all aspects of your life and it offers sound advice on how to get it.

What A Powerful Book.......2007-06-27
What a powerful book this is and yet a quick read. Simple yet very in-depth. I am well into the 40 days, and when I missed one day near the beginning, I did start over. There is an energy that is created and maintained throughout the 40 day period, and it is a practice that needs to become a daily habit. I am an avid student and teacher of the Law of Attraction and Prosperity Thinking, and a Prosperity Guide and Life Management Coach. This book is a must read. It should be a staple in the library of every LOA student and teacher. I am part of a small group, and we are doing this program together, and we are having amazing results. I am thrilled with this little powerful book.
Good Book CD Good Supplement.......2007-06-17
One should be familar with new thought principles before getting this book unless your not someone with an over intellectual mind then I would say jump right into this book. Its a part of my library for sure, but it will involve the reader doing research and learning of the various ideas presented here. Bottom-line if you want to demonstrate prosperity this is a good book, but be prepared to do some additional research.
I enjoy the CD and use it on occasion.
Usually a change within 10 days..........2007-05-25
As Las Vegas' own Mystic Mona, I have purchased this book time and again (because I keep giving it away). Whenever I feel stuck on an issue, I turn to either The Abundance Book or The Superbeings (depending on the challenge). This book IS "The Secret" to creating a lifestyle of interest, purpose, awareness, compassion and of course, abundance. I recommend these two books frequently on my radio program Psychic View, heard on [...] live each Sunday evening from 7pm to 9pm (Pacific Time Zone).
Changed My Beliefs About Abundance.......2007-05-17
I read this book a few years ago and have given it as gifts to quite a few people. John Randolph Price is one of my favorite authors and I have read many of his books.
I finally decided to write here what I have been "telling" people since reading this book. It truly changed my life!
The meditations/affirmations in this book are to be done for at least 40 days straight. I have to say, it took me more than the 40 days, but I began to see miracles in my life. I too, had been taught that to be poor was okay and people who had money were "evil" so to speak.
I did the meditations and started to not only have miracles, but my whole spiritual life was changed in the process. At the time I read the book, I had just relocated to another state was looking for a job. The first job I landed paid 40% more than the one I left! I knew it was because I began to believe that I deserved more, therefore, I had more. Over time, other things happened in my life too (too many to name here). I will only say that I have grown by leaps and bounds and ALWAYS expect miracles.
In order to change our thinking/beliefs, it must be a practice; something done daily and integrated into our lives. We as a society are so busy but wouldnt it be worth it to meditate for 15 minutes a day and focus on ourselves? I am grateful that I found this book and intend to continue to use it whenever I feel drawn to do so.
An Avid John Randolph Price fan!
Book Description
Christians have likely been struggling with the place of business in the life of faith ever since Paul's days as a tentmaker. Just how do the spheres of private devotion and public business intersect in a meaningful way?
Paul Stevens has been exploring this question since his earliest working days in his father's steel business. His Doing God's Business tells how readers can find lasting and satisfying meaning for marketplace involvement in the light of the Christian faith and tradition. Stevens explores the potential of business as a location for practicing everyday spiritual disciplines and as a source of creativity and deeper relationship with God.
