Everything you need to know about the subject!.......2007-09-26
This one book has it all! The author hasn't left any segment of Six Sigma uncovered. The index is detailed, making it easy to find a particular thing in the book. The language is easy to follow.
Wow Book.......2007-09-07
This book is worth the price. A good guide indeed, covering theoretical perspective and making practical sense as well. A must for those new and enthusiastic readers of Six-Sigma.
My Six Sigma Handbook Review.......2007-09-01
The Six Sigma Handbook was a required reading as part of the Black Belt Certification I am taking. I have read the entire handbook. I found some chapters easier to read than others. There are other books, on Six Sigma, that may easier for the novice to read. This book is a great desk-top reference for anyone who is in the manufacturing line of business because most of the examples are focused in that direction. The book does contain some transactional examples from service companies that are helpful.
Review.......2007-07-17
The book is very good on stats and very comprehensive. However for a book this size, would like to have seen a bit more on problem solving tools
Book used as part of a Black Belt Program.......2007-05-14
I am reading the book as part of a SixSigma Black Belt program, currently at page 327. Reading as I am for comprehension, I find that there is a information in just about every line of the book. Pyzdek demonstrates his experience in the field of improvement, as all dimensions are thoroughly addressed. As an experienced engineering manager, I do not see too many stones unturned.

This book will help reduce and even eliminate waste in your organization. It's worth trying. It makes manufacturing processes to flow better and brings quality improvement to the work place. I recommend it. All our employees should read it (Spanish Version) / Este libro ayuda a reducir e incluso a eliminar desperdicio en su organización. Vale la pena intentarlo. Hace que los processos de manufactura fluyan mejor y trae mejoría a la calidad en el lugar de trabajo. Lo recomiendo (Version en Español)
Very tiny book.......2007-05-10
Very tiny book. I was not expecting such a small book. Very expensive item for its size.
Book arrived with a grease stain on the cover!
Handy Reference, Perfect for Training Seminar.......2007-01-13
If I had to give a 1-2 day seminar on the subject, this would be a handy handbook. For that purpose, it should be used, not as a general reference on lean manufacturing.
If this review was helpful, please add your vote. Thanks.
The Lean Manufacturing Handbook.......2007-01-09
I purchased this handbook to be used as a quick reference guide and as part training aid when I talk to my Clients in the manufacturing sector. It has completely satisfied these requirements and the other factor that appealed was its true "pocket" size.
Lean .......2006-08-28
Delighted with this book. Firstly it's size is great as when you are on the Gemba (Floor) you can have this in your back pocket and referance it when needed. It goes through the various concepts of Lean in an easy format and then explains the techniques. As a Lean BlackBelt myself, it's a great tool to use in every day situations.

Solution Selling Fieldbook Could Help Boost Your Sales.......2007-01-17
The Solution Selling Fieldbook is the perfect compliment to Keith Eades 2004 book, The New Solution Selling. The New Solution Selling is an excellent book destined to become a sales classic. However, in sales, having a great theory doesn't necessarily translate into becoming a great salesperson. The Solution Selling Fieldbook provides tools to effectively implement the sales process and sales strategies discussed in The New Solution Selling. The CD-ROM included in the back of the book makes it easy for the salesperson to personalize all of the worksheets and templates to his or her own territory.
Eades formula for sales success in The New Solution Selling is: Pain x Power x Vision x Value x Control = Sale. The authors of the fieldbook maintain that a successful sales call is a result of effective planning and research. Fortunately, the fieldbook provides all of the tools to effectively plan the sales call.
The fieldbook begins by helping salespeople identify areas of pain in their accounts. As the book points out, "no pain, no change." Discovering the pain is the most important step in the process because it influences everything else that happens in the sales call. The worksheets and examples in the fieldbook help the salesperson identify the "pain" in his or her accounts. An important issue to understand is that pain varies depending upon the key player's job responsibilities. Too often, salespeople focus on one player in the buying center and ignore the others. By providing a systematic format, the fieldbook helps the salesperson make sure that the key players in an account have been identified. While each key player has unique pain areas, the effects of the pain are felt at the company level. The fieldbook helps the salesperson create a pain checklist to illustrate how each key player's pain aggregates at the organizational level.
Of course, planning does no good unless the salesperson is able to talk with the key players in a prospective client's firm. Consequently, the fieldbook moves on to stimulating interest and provides many examples for how to do that in the initial call to a prospect. It also provides letter templates in the event that the initial contact is made by mail. Once contact is established, there is no guarantee that the key player(s) will realize his or her pain. As every good salesperson knows, just because s/he can identify the pain doesn't mean that the prospect willing to do something about it. The fieldbook provides job aids to help the salesperson get the prospect to acknowledge the pain.
Finding and developing the prospect's pain is important so that the salesperson can help create a vision for the solution. Value must be an integral part of this vision. The salesperson needs to lead the sales call with value propositions to stimulate interest. By getting the right kind of information during the sales call, the salesperson can verify and justify the value of the solution. Value justification should be stated in terms of benefits expected (increased profits, increased revenue, or decreased costs). And, as always, The Solution Selling Fieldbook provides templates and exercises to help the salesperson accomplish this difficult task.
In summary, The Solution Selling Fieldbook is an excellent "how to" book for implementing the contents of The New Solution Selling. Salespeople who use this fieldbook diligently should see an increase in overall sales.
Book Description
Profits in tough times require prioritization and focus. If properly managed, Six Sigma methods can deliver dramatic improvement by increasing manufacturing and process efficiencies. But nearly 60% of all corporate Six Sigma initiatives fail to yield the desired results -- often companies take the "fighting fires" approach to business and do not take time to understand what the data in telling them, which is why many Six Sigma projects fail.
The high-visibility of the Six Sigma Initiative has corporate executives committing to significant investment in resources often without any tangible improvement in profitability -- a fact neglected by most Six Sigma books. Written with Green belts, and managers in mind, this reference shows readers how to statistically evaluate a Six Sigma program, identify problems, and make tailor-made adjustments to get the desired results and revitalize a program.

A "must read" for executives and operations consultants.......2005-09-18
This is the best organized and most useful book I have read on the topic of six-sigma and its role in driving business performance. Mr. Gupta builds on the core concepts behind six-sigma in crisp, clear language and links these concepts to highly practical techniques that can be readily implemented and tracked. No operations executive or consultant should be without this valuable handbook!
Excellent Resource - The Six Sigma Performance Handbook.......2005-06-30
Praveen Gupta's book entitled "The Six Sigma Performance Handbook" is an excellent resource for individuals having the desire to learn how to benefit from the Six Sigma methodology. In reading this book, you will learn that application of the Six Sigma toolkit is within the reach of virtually anyone. You do not need to possess an extraordinary intellect. In fact, most of the tools described within Gupta's book indicate that a methodical application of qualitative and graphical methods are fully capable of taking you significantly toward the goal for which you are reaching. The book does also provide a good overview of the quantitative methods that may be applied to validate the proposed process changes. As one of the pioneers in the development and application of Six Sigma methods, Praveen Gupta has seen it all and this book is a great asset in raising the skill level of Six Sigma practitioners, whether they be new to the field or already possess a working knowledge of the tools.
A handbook for Excellence through practical means.......2005-03-04
I have found that Praveen's book is an excellent guide to the six sigma process. It takes one beyond the black belt image that six sigma has held and transoports you to the next level of managment excellence. His book a is a great guide to quality managers for problem solving and to all other staff managers and presidents to bring thier organizations to excellence.
The Six Sigma Performance Handbook.......2004-12-07
This is the best book I have seen on Six Sigma. It covers all the key tools of Six Sigma in large breadth and depth. It is a must read for Green Belt aspirants.

Decent reference.......2007-05-07
Has anyone actually sent in the 2 dozen or so corrections to the publisher? The text is weak on analytics and not a 'stand alone' reference for the tougher certification exams (ASQ, Moresteam, etc).
Even so, it is one of the best commercial volumes out there - in terms of organization and potential benefit to the practitioner.
They should take a page off Juran's Quality Handbook, or other Engineering Handbooks (Perry's), on formatting and content development.
Book Description
Six Sigma is a system for improving the quality of organizational processes and products to a level of 3 defects per million--the "six sigma" level of quality. It was originally developed at Motorola in the 1980's and has become one of the most widely discussed and reported trends in business over the past two years, thanks largely to the phenomenal successes of the Six Sigma program at GE, where CEO Jack Welch credits it with millions of dollars in annual cost savings and product quality improvements. Due to the widespread coverage of the Six Sigma program by the business press over the last two years, there is strong demand for books and information on how Six Sigma works and how to implement it. The Six Sigma Handbook is designed for the manager or quality professional who is already familiar with Six Sigma and wants a guide to the basic quality tools and statistics that are the foundation for Six Sigma. In addition to providing a brief overview of the management and organization of Six Sigma, and the underlying philosophy, the book explains in detail the problem-solving techniques and statistical tools most often used in Six Sigma.

The Six Sigma Handbook.......2007-03-22
Great book, very informative and assisted me in becoming Green Belt accredited. Recommended for all
Reviewing for CSSBB? - use Breyfogle.......2003-07-30
If you are studying for the Six Sigma Black Belt certificate I recommend you use Breyfogle's book as your general reference. Breyfogle's book is more complete and structured in the exams format so its easier to study and reference during the exam.
Good luck.
Six Sigma Handbook That Gets Used 6 times a week.......2002-07-12
I've had more than a few occasions to use this text. It is excellently
written and provides a great mix of pragmatic and technical topics that
have helped me on several different 6S teams I'm working. Can't say that
I've read it cover to cover, but can say that it is an excellent handbook.
I'll bet I'm averaging a half-dozen accesses a week.

Basic Guide.......2002-05-17
The subtitle to Pyzdek's book is "A Complete Guide Greenbelts, Blackbelts ..." I think that is a bit of an overstatement. The book is a collection of snipets on managerial and technical issues. On the technical side, he covers a few pages here and few pages there on everything from control charts to design of experiments.
My view is that Pyzdek's book is a nice basic overview to six-sigma. Something for greenbelts but hardly the coverage necessary for blackbelts. Blackbelts, by definition, need in depth coverage with excellent software support. By the way, with the exception of a few figures of Excel output, software issues are pretty void in this book. And the use of Excel is questionable considering its accuracy problems (well documented).
For blackbelts, my advice is to pick up a management dedicated six-sigma book. Then for technical side, one is best served to arm themselves with authorative references. For ANOVA and DOE, consider Montgomery's "Design of Experiments" book and also consider Neter and Wasserman's "Applied Linear Models". For statistical process control, there is a gem of a book by Alwan titled "Statistical Process Analysis". Alwan's book covers basic SPC but takes process analysis to the next level by covering issues of nonnormality and time-series/SPC using a lot of Minitab (Pyzdek actually references his work). Armed with this collection of these basic references you will be no doubt have the technical skills of a master black belt or actually beyond.
Great for the Six Sigma Exam.......2002-03-25
If you are taking the ASQ exam, this would be a good choice. I would also recommend a first level statistics text book. I used Weiss Elementary Statistics.

A must for Six Sigma starter, and leader.......2004-03-01
The name says it well - this is a book for leader who want to know what Six Sigma is, and in particular, all (and I mean ALL) the other management issues for starting Six Sigma.
Obviously this book will not cover the detail technical aspect of Six Sigma (like the statistics knowledge, etc), but this book cover all the useful information for Six Sigma - its history, what is Black/Green/Yellow Belts, what is DFSS,DMAIC,etc.. It also covers information not available in other Six Sigma books - change management, Belts selection, communication to the organization, etc... I will say this single book must be the very first book for all people who wants to know this popular management topics, before going into other academic or technical details.
No other single source offers more or better information.......2004-01-25
Twenty-eight people contributed material to this book, including Thomas Bertels who also served as editor. What we have here in a single volume is a focus on "the critical factors that can make or break the implementation of Six Sigma in an organization." The contributors identify, explain, and then support these principles with real-world experiences and examples. "By placing Six Sigma in this context, this book will, in fact, be useful for any executive, manager, or employee who wants to understand how Six Sigma can help address the particular challenges of their organization." This book was written with empathy for non-technicians (such as I) as it responds to questions such as these:
* What is Six Sigma?
* Why Six Sigma?
* Why NOT Six Sigma?
* Where and how to begin?
* Whom to involve in Six Sigma initiatives?
* What is senior management's role?
* Major cultural barriers and how to overcome them?
* How and when to implement Six Sigma program?
* How to measure progress?
* How to sustain process improvement?
My own rather extensive experience suggests that all organizations can improve HOW they conduct business. Some processes may involve development of new products or services, others production and/or distribution, and still others order processing. Whatever. Not all organizations, however, need a full-blown Six Sigma program. In fact, a majority of such programs either fail or fall far short of expectations.
Among the many substantial benefits of this book is the guidance it provides to decision-makers when they struggle to determine the nature and extent of process improvement initiatives needed. You don't need a full-blown Six Sigma program inorder to, for example, reduce cycle time while improving first-pass yield. Among the most valuable chapters in this book are the last two. With appropriate modification, the principles, strategies, and tactics in both Chapter 24 ("Measuring and Auditing Results") and in Chapter 25 ("Developing Change Leadership Capacity") are relevant to any organization, regardless of size of nature. In my opinion, each of these two chapters (all by itself) is worth far more than the cost of the book but the value of both is even greater, of course, when their material is absorbed and digested at the conclusion of the sequence of chapters. I also want to commend the remarkably informative Foreword, Preface, and Introductions well as are three appendices: "Basic Six Sigma Concepts," "Case Study: Six Sigma in Small and Medium Enterprises," and "DFSS Case Study."
Previously, I have reviewed and praised the works of Forrest Breyfogle, Subir Chowdhury, George Eckes, and Peter Pande, each of whom has written brilliantly and eloquently on the subject of Six Sigma. I continue to recommend their works without hesitation or qualification, as I shall now do also with Rath & Strong's Six Sigma Leadership Handbook as well as the three Rath & Strong Pocket Guides and the Six Sigma Road Map. Given the importance of process improvement, and given how many hours and dollars can be saved by even one improvement, it makes sense to obtain resources such as these and then derive maximum ROI from each.
Practical Guidance for Leaders.......2003-03-06
This is the best practical guide out there. It is not a pocket guide like most of Rath & Strong's publications but it is no less practical. The book is written by a group of authors who work day-to-day actually implementing Six Sigma in a variety of organizations and clearly reflects their practical orientation. In addition, there are a number of indepth interviews with corporate CEOs and other senior leaders who have successfully used Six Sigma. One of the strengths of this book is that it not only covers the technical issues associated with Six Sigma implementation but also offers practical guidance in areas like change management and cultural impact. This handbook is a must read both for anyone thinking about implementing Six Sigam and for those already deeply involved.
Perfect Overview.......2003-02-20
This is the most complete Six Sigma overview I have ever read. Not only does Rath & Strong write from a team of everyday Six Sigma trainers and consultants, but this book also includes high profile interviews by industry leaders such as Dr. Juran (Juran Institute), Dr. Mikel Harry (Six Sigma Academy) and Robert Galvin (Motorola). If you do not have this book, you are not serious about Six Sigma.
Book Description
The Certified Six Sigma Black Belt Handbook is the most comprehensive reference for all Six Sigma Black Belts (or anyone planning to become a Black Belt) currently available. Written by two uniquely qualified experts, all aspects of Six Sigma are covered, from its value and history to the voice of the customer, project management, all requisite methodologies and tools, testing and analysis, lean enterprise, design for Six Sigma (DFSS), failure mode and effects analysis, and much more. The authors numbered the chapters to align with the body of knowledge specified for the ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt examination - therefore, if you're struggling with a particular point in the body of knowledge, you can easily refer to the correspondingly numbered chapter or section of the book for explanation and clarification.
The CD-ROM that is included with the handbook contains a wide selection of supplementary problems covering each chapter and a simulated Six Sigma Black Belt exam which has problems distributed among the chapters according to the scheme published in the body of knowledge for the ASQ certification.

On time, in good condition.......2007-09-26
When I searched the title for this book, they were offering many new books at a used price. The book I got was in great condition, and got to me within 3 days. It's worth the buy!
poorly done.......2007-02-24
This book was not helpful as a reference in the ASQ SSBB exam. (Go to the Indiana Society of Quality materials for a good reference.) It does not have the level of detail in subject areas to be a functional reference, and according to their own CD full of corrections and further reviews below, it is not helpful as a technical reference.
Good reference for Black belts and ASQ CSSBB exam.......2006-11-04
I read this book and used it has my main referenc when taking the ASQ blackbelt test. I found it to go along very well with the test and almost everything I needed to look up was in this book.
Worst textbook ever.......2006-08-30
This textbook has the most mistakes I have ever seen in a textbook. How can ASQ (the "American Society for Quality") recommend this as a study guide??. I just took the SSBB exam and this book was not helpful for my preparation. The (simulated) exam questions are much more focused on calculations than the actual test. I could not even find some concepts, names and tools from the test in the glossary.
one sigma handbook.......2005-10-16
This book came with six pages of Errata. Even with that, I still found multiple mistakes throughout the book. This book about Six Sigma was written on the one sigma level. I would not recommend this book to anybody. You cannot trust this book!

Customer Reviews:
Horribly translated.......2007-01-06
There are so many poor translations in the first 8 pages of this tiny book that I am hesitant to put complete faith in the rest of it. I just jumped to a random page, and read the following (verbatim): "However, most of the top managements want to do it because their golf partners' companies are doing it. In deed, it will be extremely powerful if a company implement Lean Six Sigma throughout the company and become its company culture and norm."
There may well be a lot of useful information in between the garble, but I defy anyone to use this as a genuine handbook. By that definition, it is way too detailed and set in type too small to read without eye strain.
Comprehensive & Concise.......2006-10-12
This work is the best. There is no verbose text, and I am able to quickly interrelate many things at once. None of my other texts or handbooks come close to this concise & comprehensive coverage. The author has succeeded to pack every element of useable information clearly and concisely with easy interrelation.
In other works......
Authors of other handbooks and texts seem to think more is better! The reader is relegated to the task of "filtering & merging" to get to the functional/useable information. The "subject of muda" (waste) is ridiculously filled with the muda of filtering & merging.
Eddie C. Au does NOT relegate you to filtering and merging. Its an excellent compilation. Also, in keeping with customer focus and VOC, Mr. Au provided a pdf version upon request so my aging eyesight could cope with the small print.
Fantastic!
Lean Six Sigma Handbook.......2006-07-05
If you think this handbook is going to be a "book" - think again. It's a very VERY small notebook with microscopic type. If you need something to fit into a pocket or purse - this is the notebook for you. If you'd like to actually read it to learn about LSS ... then perhaps one of the other books would be better. I'm in the latter category and was very disappointed when I received it and saw how unreadable it is because it is so small.
