A bible for MR.......2007-06-02
An excellent book for those who are new to MR or for those who wants to revisit the concepts. A well organised book with many real time examples and case studies to learn the concepts from.
I consider this book as a "Must have" one for MR field.
Book Description
Whether in the laboratory or while doing fieldwork, all researchers face an important challenge - designing research that will have sufficient sensitivity to detect those effects it purports to investigate. Sample size, validity, and sensitivity, experimental error, subject variability and the type of statistical analysis all influence the sensitivity of a research design.
In this volume Lipsey examines the concept of design sensitivity and explains statistical power and the elements that determine it. Through careful explanations and selection of examples he explores a variety of topics: factors that degrade design sensitivity, effect size parameters and approaches to assessing it, how to estimate statistical power for various statistical tests, and the special problems statistical power poses for treatment effectiveness research. This book is a vital resource for evaluators, methodologists, statisticians, psychologists, public health professionals and educators.
Customer Reviews:
Great book for those that can understand the material.......2007-03-14
I thought this was a great book. The information presented in the book should form the foundational knowledge of a researcher or evaluator. However, the book does require a certain level of sophistication on the part of the reader. While the prose are clear and concise, readers who do not possess a modest amount of statistical knowledge may get lost.
Horrible, a waste of money.......2007-01-03
I had to buy this book since it was mandated by the instructor to do so. It was so bad on so many levels. Maybe it was beyond my understanding, but it left me with no useful information. If you can avoid buying this book, I would do so. If you must buy it for a course, good luck!
Book Description
This monograph indicates how such data can best be analyzed. It is important because it applies a conceptual scheme recently developed by the authors-prediction analysis-to ordinal data.
Customer Reviews:
All You Need to Know About Analysis of Ordinal Data.......2000-04-02
This book by Hildebrand is a little gem that I recently discovered in the course of looking up other information. At less than 100 pages, the book is easily overlooked on library shelves, but proves that great things come in small packages. The author presents a clear, concise, and practical exposition of how to analyze ordinal data, and what to do with the results. There is plenty of math for the mathematically inclined, but plenty of practical examples so that non-mathematical researchers can easily perform good analysis of ordinal data. Professional statisticians would, of course, prefer more technical detail, but for those of us "in the trenches" who need to know how to apply statistics, this text is invaluable. I liked the book so much, I bought a copy. What more can I say?

Book Description
Marketing Research- An Applied Approach is aimed at students studying marketing research at undergraduate and postgraduate level. This new edition of Marketing Research- An Applied Approach builds upon Birks' well received European adaptation of Malhtora's classic text whilst also drawing on the strengths of Malhotra's most recent US edition. It forms a comprehensive, authoritative and thoroughly European introduction to applied marketing research and covers both quantitative and qualitative techniques in depth.
Customer Reviews:
A must in Marketing Research.......2007-01-28
This book is a must. Prof. Malhotra (University of Georgia, USA) and the other authors of this book know what they are talking about. This book is full of current and recent examples and cases taken from real life that illustrate main concepts. It is written in an easy-to-read style. The main concepts are summarized to the left of the corresponding paragraph. Do not miss the companion website, which provides you with an electronic summary of the chapters as well as the opportunity to take multiple choice exams. I think that there are also videos with the cases presented in the book, but I have not tried them so far. Believe me, this book is really EXCELLENT. If you work or intend to work in Marketing Research, YOU HAVE TO read this book, at least once.
KEEP IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR CARREER!.......2005-10-05
If you want to continue working on Marketing Research this could be the book would like to have permanently in your bookshelf.
It's very complete and provide deep but comprehensive understanding of the subject.
It's not for begineers, you are required to have ceetain knoledge of advanced statistics.
Excellent for gradauates and seniors.

Only consumer market research, no medical or industrial.......2001-01-19
Good overview book for consumer market research, but weak in the areas of industrial and medical/pharmaceutical market research, where tactics and objectives are much different.
Coverage of traditional methods is sound and thorough, and the internet market research techniques tend to stick to the conversions from traditional methods. Viral marketing and monitoring are over-looked, probably because few people call such activities market research. Overall, the book is generally well-written.
Two criticisms: With time and budget such a large part of the entire market research field, the book has few numbers in that regard, making it seem less practical than it actually is. Second, the examples start at clearly defined objectives. While it discusses the importance of clear objectives, it conveys it in an academic and simplified manner, not addressing the analytics of turning a vague forecast or planning need into a clear study objective.
As a general market research and survey reference, we at Documus give it good marks.
A thorough and methodical work on Marketing Research.......2000-01-09
The book is extensive. It will serve as a valuable reference for business people who do not specialize in research; but it is a must read for Marketing People.
Following the book you will be able to create and execute a complete marketing research program. I have used this book in a number of projects and the results were pleasing.
Do not read this book unless you intend to use it. It is a difficult book for people who have average business knowledge.
An excellent textbook for MBA's........1999-04-15
The book has very methodically explained the various aspects of MR. Problem methodology and questionnaire design has been dealt with exhaustively. Data analysis is also very good.
Book Description
An elementary introduction to significance testing, this paper provides a conceptual and logical basis for understanding these tests.
Customer Reviews:
get a more recent book.......2005-08-09
Henkel gives a quick guide to various common probablistic tests used by sociologists. The book is mostly directed towards undergraduate students, who might desire a precis of the subject.
He goes through elementary probability theory. Rolling of dice. What randomness means. The Gaussian [bell] curve of the normal distribution. Chi-square distribution. F distribution. Plus, very importantly, how to test hypotheses with some rigour, given these tools.
While the maths is certainly still as true now as in 1976 when Henkel wrote the book, you may want to consult a more recent and more comprehensive text. The graphics in his book are rather limited. I used texts like that as a student, and they don't bother me. But current students are probably more used to texts using far more elaborate figures. In part this reflects cheaper printing costs. But also overall, it has probably yielded statistics books that are easier to understand.

Great refresher if you forgot what you learned!.......1999-04-05
Nearly 20 years had passed between my graduate statistics courses and needing to do some regression analyses for my job. This book quickly refreshed my memory, taught me new insights for the first time, got me comfortable with what I was doing after a long absence from performing statistical analyses, and actually got me digging for deeper understanding beyond what I simply needed to know to get the job done! Practical, with applied examples that workers in human resources, quality, and team-based problem solving can use. I skimmed through a lot of texts at bookstores looking for something I could use - that met my needs - and found nothing. I took a chance on Applied Statistical Methods and won! I highly recommend this book for those such as myself that need a quick refresher.

Customer Reviews:
Tough but good book.......2004-01-12
This book is not quite like Draper & Smith or even Cohen & Cohen, but it is very good in its own right. Its appeal is to people with a higher level of quantitative training which may not be present in people with only one undergraduate social science statistics course. The book does have typos, but the book is the first edition-first printing and it is over 700 pages. I found a lot of useful information I could use in my statistical work and learned some different ways at looking at using regression analysis. The book was of great value to me and worth the time spent reading it and thinking about the material presented.
Incredibly bad.......2003-06-14
I sat through a semester of Jed Frees (the author) and his incredibly awful book. The book is the worse edited book I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. Mistakes and errata galore on top of being poorly written in the first place. Do yourself a favor and get Applied Regression Analysis by Norm Draper.
bad to the bone!!!.......2002-08-20
this book is a total waste. I have never seen such poor explanations as I have seen in this book.I can't say how many times I wanted to burn this book. I can not understand why any school would use this book. Its pretty bad...
Awful!.......2000-04-07
The book is a terrible teaching tool. It provides a poor summary of the foundations of statistics. It assumes knowledge in complex disciplines such as Caluclus and Matrix notation. The book uses complex terms to explain complex concepts. It does not make an attempt to explain the material in layman's terms. It lacks clarity and it is not coherent. I found it virtually useless.
Must avoid.......2000-04-05
This is a terrible book, it may work for experts in the field, but for students, this book is not a useful tool
