Optimization of Industrial Unit Processes, Second Edition
Béla G. Lipták Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0849398738 |
Book Description
In Optimization of Industrial Unit Processes, the term "optimization" means the maximizing of productivity and safety while minimizing operating costs. In a fully optimized plant, efficiency and productivity are continuously maximized while levels, temperatures, pressures, or flows float within their allowable limits. This control philosophy differs from earlier approaches - where levels and temperatures were controlled at constant values, and plant productivity was only an accidental, uncontrolled consequence of those controlled variables. With this approach, the sides of a multivariable control envelope are the various constraints while inside the envelope the process is continuously moved to maximize efficiency and productivity. Because one must understand a process before one can control it (let alone optimize it), Optimization of Industrial Unit Processes discusses the "personality" and characteristics of each process in term of its time constants, gains, and other unique features. This book provides information for engineers who design or operate industrial plants and who seek to increase the profitability of their plants. It recognizes that all industrial processes involve operations such as material transportation, heat transfer, and reactions. Therefore each plant consists of a combination of basic unit operations and can be optimized by maximizing the efficiency, and minimizing the operating cost, of the individual unit operations from which it is composed. Optimization of Industrial Unit Processes discusses real world processes - where pipes leak, sensors plug, and pumps cavitate - offering practical solutions to real problems. Each control system described in the book works, illustrating the state of the art in controlling a particular unit operation. This second edition reflects the continual improvement and evolution of control systems as well as anticipates future advances.

Dimensioning and Tolerancing Handbook
Paul J. Drake Manufacturer: McGraw-Hill Professional ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0070181314 |
Book Description
This book tries to capture the major topics that fall under the umbrella of "Variation Management." The book is laid out so that the reader can easily understand the variation management process and how each chapter maps to this process. This book has two purposes. It is a "one-step" resource for people who want to know everything about dimensional management and variation management. It is a useful reference for specific target audiences within the variation management process. This book includes many new techniques, methodologies, and examples that have never been published before. Much of the new material revolves around Six Sigma techniques that have evolved within the past 5 years. This book offers high level information and expertise to a broad spectrum of readers, while providing detailed information for those needing specific information. The contributors are practitioners who have hands-on experience. Much of the expertise in this book is a result of identifying needs to solve problems in our companies and businesses. Many of the chapters are the documented solutions to these needs.Customer Reviews:

Production Planning by Mixed Integer Programming (Springer Series in Operations Research and Financial Engineering)
Yves Pochet , and Laurence A. Wolsey Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
Accessories:
ASIN: 0387299599 |
Book Description
This textbook provides a comprehensive modeling, reformulation and optimization approach for solving production planning and supply chain planning problems, covering topics from a basic introduction to planning systems, mixed integer programming (MIP) models and algorithms through the advanced description of mathematical results in polyhedral combinatorics required to solve these problems. This book addresses solving real life or industrial production planning problems (involving complex production structures with multiple production stages) using MIP modeling and reformulation approach. It is based on the twenty years worth of research in which the authors have played a significant role. One of the goals of this book is to allow non-expert readers, students in business, engineering, applied mathematics and computer science to solve such problems using standard modeling tools and MIP software. To achieve this the book provides an introduction to MIP modeling and to planning systems, as well as a unique collection of reformulation results, integrating them into a comprehensive modeling and reformulation approach, as well as an easy to use problem-solving library. Moreover this approach is demonstrated through a series of real life case studies, exercises and detailed illustrations.
Graduate students and researchers in operations research, management, science and applied mathematics wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the formulations and mathematics underlying this approach will find this book useful because of its detailed treatment of the polyhedral structure of the basic lot-sizing problems and simple mixed integer sets that arise in more complicated problems. Reading this book will allow the reader to improve formulations of non-standard MIP models much more effectively and produce state-of-the-art models and algorithms.

Introduction to Computational Optimization Models for Production Planning in a Supply Chain
Stefan Voß , and David L. Woodruff Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items: ASIN: 3540298789 |
Book Description
The book begins with an easy-to-read introduction to the concepts associated with the creation of optimization models for production planning. These concepts are then applied to well-known planning models, namely mrp and MRP II. From this foundation fairly sophisticated models for supply chain management are developed. Another unique feature is that models are developed with an eye toward implementation. In fact, there is a chapter that provides explicit examples of implementation of the basic models using a variety of popular, commercially available modeling languages. The new edition is updated and provides extensions.
