4 out of 5 stars Very useful book - faulty cover!.......2007-09-01

The book is a comprehensive review of 6Sigma tools and 6Sigma Project management life cycle. Hard reading. Recommended if there is no fault with the book! This suppose to be a new book from amazon.com I can not send it back as this is very heavy and I need it!!

5 out of 5 stars Book " Implementing 6 sigma: Smarter solutions using statistical methods".......2007-05-26

Excellent condition of the book, as they mentioned, it arrived on time according to what the deal was, this is an excellent vendor

5 out of 5 stars The must-have on every six sigma shelf.......2006-11-12

I have been using this book for the past few years and it continues to be the most valuable Six Sigma resource on my bookshelf. It is the most complete and practical Six Sigma book you will find, and worth every dollar. Every six sigma black belt I have worked with owns a copy of this book

This book is absolutely packed with useful examples - providing you with both the formulas to solve the Six Sigma tests, and also the solutions.

This is a manufacturing-centric six sigma book. If you are dedicated to service application of six sigma, I would recommend reading "Six Sigma for Transactions and Service."

If you are interested in learning about six sigma, or are a green-belt or a process improvement or enterprise modeler, this probably isn't the book for you. However if you are a black belt and apply six sigma methods on a consistent basis, this is a must-read ...

5 out of 5 stars Implementing Six Sigma Review.......2006-02-28

I have read multiple books on Six Sigma, but "Implementing Six Sigma", is by far the most practical with a perfect balance of statistical concepts and everyday examples. Finally, there is a book that can show Executives, there is a better way, a true management system that links strategic objectives to bottom-line results. This book is a must for all Six Sigma practioners.

5 out of 5 stars This is the only Six Sigma book you will need.......2006-02-26

This is the only Six Sigma book that covers all aspects of the methodology. You will not find another book that analyses every aspect of Six Sigma so deeply and yet, in a way that makes it so easy to understand.
As a professional of Six Sigma, I have been through every book about the subject that deserves attention but none of them comes anywhere close to Breygogle's "Implementing Six Sigma". Not only does the second edition cover the Lean methodology, but it also delves into the Theory OF Constraints and very clearly shows how it can be used for Six Sigma project selections.
No wonder why this book is the only one recommended by ASQ for their Six Sigma Black Belt preperation and no wonder why Breyfogle won the Crosby Medal.
Great book! I give it a 5 plus.

Book Description

This book is about the use of modern statistical methods for quality control and improvement. It provides comprehensive coverage of the subject from basic principles to state-of-art concepts and applications. The objective is to give the reader a sound understanding of the principles and the basis for applying them in a variety of both product and nonproduct situations. While statistical techniques are emphasized throughout, the book has a strong engineering and management orientation. Guidelines are given throughout the book for selecting the proper type of statistical technique to use in a wide variety of product and nonproduct situations. By presenting theory, and supporting the theory with clear and relevant examples, Montgomery helps the reader to understand the big picture of important concepts. Updated to reflect contemporary practice and provide more information on management aspects of quality improvement.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this CRAM book........2007-01-22

If you want to understand and pass a subject, you have to read the original book (here Introduction to Statistical Quality Control by Montgomery) and try to understand the examples and the concepts in the book. In addition you have to do several exercies in this book to reinforce this understanding. Studying some outlines, highlights and notes prepared by other people won't help you much.

5 out of 5 stars Sacred Book on SQC.......2007-01-12

If you are looking to be well versed on the principle of Statistical Quality Control, then you need this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great SPC book.......2004-08-14

Used this book in a graduate level course on SPC. The book and the excercises were interesting and highly informative, as are all of Dr. Montgomery's numerous texts. Most concepts are backed up with liberal examples to help understand the theory and cement the concept and their practical applications, and run the whole gamut from management to electrical engineering problems. Many of the tables in the back of the book, such as the random number table, are outdated due to computers, however these may have been dropped in the new version of the text.

5 out of 5 stars good book worst service.......2004-06-30

the book is very good ..no doubt but the service is aweful.

1. on the website they show it is a hardcover book and so i ordered for it but got a soft cover book ...now i have to worry about return or refunds etc...

2. had to wait for 3 weeks to get the book.

3. print quality aweful ...the original book has good color print...the one i received for the same price has a black and white print with very thin see-through pages...

my advice would be to avoid abebooks.com through amazon if possible because the same book is listed for $ 33 on their own website and here they sell it for $ 41 ...so waste ur money if u want.

5 out of 5 stars Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about SPC.......2003-09-12

As the developer of the QI Macros SPC Software for Excel, customers often call with exotic questions about statistical methods for quality control.

Montgomery's book, more often than not, is the one I turn to for answers that I can't seem to find anywhere else. Even if I do find the answer in another book, it's always easier to understand in Montgomery's. The book is written in a way that makes seemingly incomprehensible statistics understandable. And there are plenty of examples.

If you're looking for a book to help you implement quality control in a small business, Montgomery's book is a bit too much, so you might consider my book on the Small Business Guerrilla Guide to Six Sigma or Six Sigma Simplified.

I like the level of detalization in this book and simple language explaining the concept, application of statistics, and Sigma methods. The value of this book from my practical point of view is the Case Studies which help to better understand when and how statistics for Six Sigma can be used.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!!.......2006-08-07

Brussee's Statistics for Six Sigma Made Easy is a wonderful "how to" text for six sigma stat tools that is very readable, and usable, by anyone with at least a high school level background in mathematics. He has done a great job of simplifying much of what a Green Belt would use from the Six Sigma toolkit, and he presents the material in a format highly conducive to application. The result is a valuable statistics manual for the Six Sigma implementer.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2006-07-11

5 out of 5 stars A Truly Unique and Friendly Six Sigma Book.......2006-02-27

I am a Black Belt and program manager at a Fortune 100 company. I use and teach Six Sigma regularly, and I strongly believe in the power of this methodology. However, Six Sigma can be complex, bureaucratic, and confusing. This sometimes makes it difficult to get buy-in from others.

I constantly search for books that make Six Sigma easier to use and understand. I have used Brussee's Statistics for Six Sigma Made Easy for over a year and have found no other book as successful in making Six Sigma truly useable for those who don't plan to make Six Sigma their life's major undertaking. Not everyone wants to be a Six Sigma Black Belt!

The author has simplified many of the Six Sigma tools, with no reduction in their usefulness. In fact, the simplification on the QFDs and the FMEAs make them MORE useful, because they aren't so tedious and boring. And the Simplified Gauge Verification, which incorporates aim into the formula, makes the output far more meaningful.

Testing for statistical significance, which in most Six Sigma books is either skipped completely or treated with the same complexity as in a high-level statistics book, is incorporated as a straight-forward test, with no unnecessary jargon. And all calculations can be done with Excel. Although I feel comfortable using Six Sigma specific software, I find that most people who are not doing Six Sigma calculations on a daily basis are much more comfortable using Excel.

The included Six Sigma case studies seem to indicate that the author has truly lived through Six Sigma projects, not just observed them as a consultant. As someone who has to live with the results of their work for many years, I appreciate this difference.

I think that Brussee's approach to Six Sigma will become the standard as this valuable methodology continues to be incorporated into more industrial and non-industrial processes. I highly recommend this book.

Looking to live somewhere where houses are cheap? Head to Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Iowa, where the average home costs $75,700, and annual property taxes for that home are about $960. Perhaps a good job market is a higher priority. In that case, pick Phoenix, Arizona; Las Vegas, Nevada; or Riverside, California, as they top the list of places projected to have the highest-percentage increase in new jobs by 2005. Most of those jobs, by the way, are expected to have above-average pay. This and other detailed information can be found in the sixth edition of Places Rated Almanac, a helpful resource for people thinking of relocating as well as those with a desire to learn about cities and towns. Metropolitan areas are rated in nine categories: costs of living, job outlook, transportation, education, health care, crime, the arts, recreation, and climate. But don't go looking for statistics on Podunk--the focus remains on 354 metro areas, metro defined as a city or urbanized population of at least 50,000, located in a county with a total population of at least 100,000.

Places Rated is laced with intelligent and, unexpectedly, witty writing. The whole concept of judging places, the author notes, may seem the utmost of brass. "Yet everyone does it, privately. Some suspect that culture in Omaha or Des Moines or Saskatoon is a contradiction. Others surmise that daily life in Miami consists of surviving drug-trade shoot-outs..." Organized intelligently, Places Rated acknowledges that "livability" and "quality of life" are moving targets. Livable for whom? The artist who wants mountain vistas? The entrepreneur who wants low taxes and no red tape? With these limitations in mind, the book ends with a chapter titled "Putting It All Together," where the reader is invited to rate cities with a customized list of priorities. Arriving at your customized list, however, requires answering 72 questions that force you to decide once and for all what you value most--a low cost of living or good school districts or mild winters or some other criterion. And should you find that climate matters most, head for Santa Barbara, California, where winters and summers are mild and natural hazards are few, and stay away from Rochester, Minnesota, unless you're willing to endure 35 days when it's 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and 165 days of 32 degrees Fahrenheit, annually. --John Russell

    5 out of 5 stars Version 2000.......2007-03-12

Even the older editions give you a lot of valuable information.
    I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful tool in relocating.......2007-02-13

We used this book when we lived in New York and decided we wanted to relocate "somewhere else." It was extremely useful in narrowing the choices to places that had attributes that were most important to us, which in our case were things such as cost of living, weather, education, healthcare. It also offers a ton of info on other factors such as public transportation, the arts, employment, etc.

The book included a "quiz" you can give yourself, the answers to which will help you reveal to yourself which factors are in fact the most relevant to you.

In reading some of the other reviews, I must point out that relocating is not something you base upon a book alone. It was a great reference point, but once we narrowed our choices to several areas, we then did more specific research on those areas via the internet, sending for info from Chambers of Commerce, making phone calls, in-person visits, etc.

We ended up moving south and are extremely happy in our new area. In researching our new region, we found that many other people around here are also "transplants," thereby eliminating the aspect of feeling "foreign" in our new home town.

Definitely an excellent resource I would recommend to anyone considering relocating.

3 out of 5 stars A city may be "great on paper" but beware! .......2004-07-23

These books are full of extremely helpful information, but I warn my fellow readers to take a place's culture into account before making a life-changing move. The books will not help you here. My husband and I bought a previous edition of Places Rated and devoured it while looking for a place to relocate from Los Angeles. We settled on a southern capital that seemed to have everything going for it, including consistently high rankings in Places Rated and every other city ranking we could find. Unfortunately, a city that looks great on paper may not be the place for you. Despite having lived in several states, we were unprepared for the surprising difficulties we experienced as "yankees" living in the south. From petty social and work discrimination to routinely being screwed over by one business after another hired to work on our home or car, etc., it became evident that we were identified as "yankees" on sight and treated accordingly. So much for southern hospitality! I assure you that we did our best to fit in and make friends, as we have successfully done in every other region of the country. After 2-1/2 years of this, we sold our home for a loss and got our "unsweet tea" out of there. Perhaps we were naive, not realizing that the yankee business is still such a potent issue in the south, but we will make future relocation choices with this experience in mind.

4 out of 5 stars The best book of its kind........2003-12-28

It's tough to read a book of someone's opinions on where to live as its really a heartfelt decision each person needs to make for themselves. But most of this book is straight statistics, such as weather and crime. The book is big and leaves enough room for each metro area so you can read the climate graphs without too much eyestrain. It's the best book on deciding where to move that I found. I took tons of notes from this book, and it actually helped me pick an entirely new place to live than the ones I had originally thought of! The only section I didn't like was the arts and culture section. I'm into the artsy scene, but the authors rated cities based on number of symphonies and orchestras and operas - who goes to these anymore??

5 out of 5 stars Love this book.......2002-08-17

This book is just great. I have bought every retirement-places-rated type of book that I can get my hands on and this author is by far the best. The millennium edition is twice as big as the last edition and every subject is covered that anyone would want to know about an area; cost of living, transportation, jobs, education, climate, crime, the arts, health care, recreation. I can't wait for the next edition to come out! We're not retiring any time soon so it's helpful to really be able to study and evaluate where we are going to want to retire.

      Book Description

All measurements are subject to error because no quantity can be known exactly; hence, any measurement has a probability of lying within a certain range. The more precise the measurement, the smaller the range of uncertainty. Uncertainty, Calibration and Probability is a comprehensive treatment of the statistics and methods of estimating these calibration uncertainties. The book features the general theory of uncertainty involving the combination (convolution) of non-Gaussian, student t, and Gaussian distributions; the use of rectangular distributions to represent systematic uncertainties; and measurable and nonmeasurable uncertainties that require estimation. The author also discusses sources of measurement errors and curve fitting with numerous examples of uncertainty case studies. Many useful tables and computational formulae are included as well. All formulations are discussed and demonstrated with the minimum of mathematical knowledge assumed. This second edition offers additional examples in each chapter, and detailed additions and alterations made to the text. New chapters consist of the general theory of uncertainty and applications to industry and a new section discusses the use of orthogonal polynomials in curve fitting. Focusing on practical problems of measurement, Uncertainty, Calibration and Probability is an invaluable reference tool for R&D laboratories in the engineering/manufacturing industries and for undergraduate and graduate students in physics, engineering, and metrology.

4 out of 5 stars interesting introduction to quality tools and strategies.......2000-12-14

This texts assumes little mathematics and no statistical training. It is intended to teach engineering students and managers the basic tools and strategies for successful quality control and management. The authors are statisticians, so the importance of probability and statistics is emphasized and taught from first principles. Yet the first five Chapters (Section 1 of the book), does not deal with statistics at all! The authors describe quality problems and strategies for solving problems. This involves sketching the importance of data and data analysis and mentioning the various statistical tools in the context of the roles they play. Chapter 2 deals with ways of detecting quality porblems and includes flowcharting processes, the use of scorecards and Pareto diagrams. Chapter 3 deals with problem solving techniques and cause-and-effect diagrams. Chapter 4 deals with group problem solving including quality circles and the delphi technique for reaching a consensus. Section 1 concludes with the use of a rewards system to facilitate employee involvement in quality improvement.

In Section 2 basic statistical concepts are introduced as they are needed. Chapter 6 deals with ways to measure productivity and collect data. Chapter 7 covers graphical displays, descriptive statistics and probability distributions and concludes with an enumeration of Ishikawa's seven basic tools. Formal probability is introduced in Chapter 8, survey sampling in Chapter 9, statistical inference under simple random sampling in Chapter 10, acceptance sampling in Chapter 11, statistical process control in Chapter 12, process capability indices in Chapter 13 (a good introductory treatment). Section 2 is Chapters 6-11 covering the tools for data analysis. Chapters 12 and 13 are separated as Section 3 covering process stabilization and predictability. Several real projects are described at the end of Section 3. Section 4 is on design of experiments covering Chapters 14 -16. Chapters 14 and 15 deal with classical statistical designs while Chapter 16 deals with Taguchi designs that are useful for determining robust conditions and process improvement. Many useful applications are given to illustrate the techniques. Other useful statistical methods in quality control are relegated to Chapter 17. This includes regression analysis, response surface methods and model selection procedures.

This is an excellent text for a first course....
