Book Description
The new standard requires new auditing skills. How to Audit ISO 9001:2000 provides auditors with the information necessary to conduct effective management system assessments for conformity to ISO 9001:2000. It provides a framework for auditing ISO 9001:2000 from a business perspective as well as detailed descriptions and interpretations of the requirements, and helpful hints.
This book can be used to teach internal- or lead-auditor training courses to ISO 9001:2000. Auditors or those who have already taken an auditing course and are familiar with the ISO 9001:1994 standard, the auditing process, and the terminology associated with the ISO 9000 series of standards will find this book most useful.

Interesting integration of two major quality frameworks.......2004-03-25
This book is also available as an e-book (see ISBN B0000AJ68G). Regardless of which format you choose, the content is one of the best descriptions of ISO 9001:2000 and the CMMI - and how to use them as an integrated approach to achieve a high level of capability maturity.
The authors provide a summary of process improvement approaches, including frameworks and interrelationships among them. There is excellent background information on the CMMI and how it evolved from the older CMM. This also includes early work by the FAA with its iCMM approach.
In the parts of the book dealing with ISO 9001 the authors show the key differences between ISO 9001:94 and ISO 9001:2000, and provide a context and value proposition for them. The significant changes between the 1994 and 2000 versions of ISO 9001 are covered in detail. W
Another key feature of this book is the section on making the transition from legacy standards. This is where the differences between CMM and CMMI, and ISO 9001:1994 and ISO 9001:2000 are clearly highlighted. If you are currently operating under either the older CMM or ISO 9001:94 framework, this section of the book also provides clear guidance for making the transition to the CMMI and ISO 9001:2000. This guidance is in the form of a five-step approach for either implementing anew, or making the transition from a legacy framework - (1) initiating, (2) diagnosing, (3)establishing, (4) acting, and (5) learning. The authors also provide ISO 9001:2000->CMMI and CMMI->ISO 9001:2000 document mapping, which will cut through the maze and show how to reduce unnecessary documentation by integrating documentation where possible.
The authors have produced a book that is exceptionally well written, clarifies two complex frameworks, and shows how they can be used in conjunction with one another.
delivers what it promisses.......2003-09-11
the book brings together two recently updated, important standards for (software) quality management: CMMI and ISO 9001.
the book is thoroughly set up and structured, easy to interpret and navigate with all the necessary mappings and tables, and
systematic considerations of process improvement approaches.
also of interest for people only focussing on the CMMI and not ISO. well done!

ISO9001 Implementation Guide.......2006-09-21
We are a small LLC corporation, a medical device testing lab, and have found Mr. Tricker's book to be quite straightforward and helpful. The detailed examples and sample QMS it provides helped us immensely and enabled us to implement our own QMS in-house, saving us a great deal of expense and time.
Relatively easy reading and not as opaque and intimidating as some other sources I've seen.
Thanks, Ray!
Good Reading.......2005-02-04
The book ISO 9001: 2000 for Small Businesses, is excellent reading. It is very helpful for smaller organizations trying to implement ISO, I am in the process of doing the same. However I think the author does not give enough emphasis on the flexibility of the new standard, neither give clues on how implementing the standard is going to help the organization function better. The Sample quality manual is helpful, I would not go as far as using it as a template and customizing it, because it will effectively translate into tricking your own self (The standard was envisioned to help give companies a tool to work better, and is very flexible/generic to help tailor it to ones own needs). But it is an excellent starting point for novice implementers of any QMS, to understand what a QMS looks like when its ready. The documentation is brief and covers most of the clauses in a structured manner. All things considered I think the book is good quality :)
Accessible to the novice and easy to read........2004-10-30
My organization has decided to become ISO 9001:2000 compliant. This is of course a necessity for a midsized consultancy that is growing by leaps and bounds. Having read two books before this one I can say that this book is accessible to novices and provides the necessary direction.
In addition to the accessibility, this book is a must read for those businesses that are not large corporations with a QMS of some sort already in place.
Not all that it says it is.......2003-11-01
Much of the book's explanation of the standard is pretty much a repetition of the words stated in the standard itself so it doesn't add much value and can be quite confusing at times.
The author also fails to explain some very important points of the standard. One example are the clauses on product "verification" and product "validation". These two terms have very different meanings in the standard. The book fails to explain their differences as well as their exact purpose.
I also noticed a number of typos in the text. There is a section in one of the later chapters of the book that, I believe, was not updated because it still used the word "Supplier" when it meant "Organization".
As for the free quality manual, I would not recommend using it. It does not apply for small businesses and the structure is not that comprehendible. The scary part about this is that the author went as far as saying the reader can immediately use the free quality manual by just replacing the sample company name with the reader's own! That sounds a lot like a get-rich-overnight scheme. It never works. You'll have satisfied ISO 9001:2000's requirement to document your procedures, but as for its requirement to implement and maintain it...I highly doubt that's going to happen if you use the sample manual as is.
I'd go for ISO 9001:2000 explained (second edition). Apart from the fact that the authors were members of the group who actually made the standard, the text is very clear and easily understood.
User-friendly intro to ISO.......2003-08-30
After the canonical brief history of ISO and where ISO 9000 came from, Mr. Tricker walks the reader through the standard. He gives a friendly treatment to material that is often presented, at least in other books I've read, in a pedantic way. The book introduces the clauses in the standard's order, then explains them, in a conversational, accessible tone.
The book also includes a quality manual, sample procedures and work instructions. I can only speak for myself, but this is what got the standard to "click" for me. Reading the ISO clauses and interpretations was fine, but when it came time to write my own manual, I found myself floundering. Seeing how Mr. Tricker applied the standard for his own consultancy was invaluable. The manual, procedures and work instructions were all in one section, and not dispersed throughout the book as examples, which added to the book's utility. A great reference book

Book Description
As we begin this millennium, the ISO 9000 family of quality management system standards has been updated to reflect a more modern understanding of quality. Originally the ISO 9000 standards were thought to be primarily a technical discipline. Today, an increasing interest in these quality standards by more non-traditional organizations has created the need to revise ISO 9000 to ensure that the needs of users around the world are met. ISO 9000:2000 represents the first major revision to the quality standards since its initial issue. Written by individuals that actually contributed to the development of the revisions, ISO 9001:2000 Explained, Second Edition is the perfect companion to the new standard. Featuring the exact text of the ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2000 standard, it will help clarify the changes in presentation, terminology, format, and requirements to quality professionals in any industry.
Customer Reviews:
Very useful book.......2005-12-28
This book has a very good explanation of ISO 9001:2000 standard. It has several examples to understand how to apply the standard's requeriments. Also, the audit check list is a high value reference at the end of each requeriment. It has helped me in my consulting and training job. However, I would recommend Ch. Cianfrani to develop the "process interaction" requeriment (using graphs), for next edition.
Worked for me.......2002-10-17
I went to the library to screen for authors and bought this book along with some others. I work in the Chemical Process Industries
and found it gave me tips on how to apply the standard in my situation. It seemed like the reasonably lengthed prose had depth. Reading the whole thing tipped us off to weakeness that sure-n-nuff the audit pointed out. It the books I've handed to my employees.
ISO 9001:2000 Explained.......2001-04-09
Quality managers, people considering implementing a Quality Management System and those who simply want to learn what ISO is and what it means, will find this book invaluable. It contains the newly adopted ISO 9001:2000 standard text and clear explanations of the requirements of each clause in practical terms. The authors provide examples of the application of the clauses for manufacturing, hardware, software and service organizations. They also clarify where additional requirements have been added or requirements deleted.
The audit checklists that follow the explanation of each clause will be useful to everyone: to those implementing a new system and to those with a system certified to the 1994 standard who may want to get a quick read of what they will need to do to transition to the 2000 standard.

Book Description
Recent changes to the ISO 9001:2000 international standards require that organizations must have an effective method of measuring customer satisfaction to achieve ISO certification. In addition to maintaining thorough documentation of each process, these organizations must also measure the effectiveness of that process, along with the consequences for the customers. Customer Satisfaction Measurement Simplified is the first book on the market specifically written to assist on attaining this requirement. Using graphics, charts, and real data with examples drawn from the author's own experiences, Customer Satisfaction Measurement Simplified will guide you through the process of implementing a customer satisfaction measurement process to help your organization meet ISO 9001 certification.
Customer Reviews:
Tries too much and achieves too little.......2002-07-16
This book's premise seems simple enough. The 2000 ISO:9000 standards differ from previous ISO:9000 standards in that they require a greater focus on the customer. Companies going for certification need to demonstrate that they have systems in place for identifying customer needs, measuring the extent to which those needs are being met, and making improvements where necessary. At first glance, this book appears to be an attempt to help companies qualify for certification by explaining how to measure customer satisfaction in a way that satisfies the standard.
In an apparent attempt at simplification, the implicit assumption is made that the reader knows nothing about ISO standards or customer satisfaction measurement. Since customer satisfaction measurement relies on an understanding of research methods and statistics, there seems to be a similar assumption that the reader might not know anything about those either. And that's the crux of the problem. ISO standards, customer satisfaction, research methods and statistics are all big topics in their own right and deserving of at least a full book's worth of explanation.
I'm not sure that any single book could do justice to all of those topics simultaneously, but I know this one does not. I suspect that the amount of detail included would overwhelm a person who truly didn't know anything about any of those topics before picking it up. On the other hand, the book does not provide enough detail to be useful to those who do have knowledge of at least some of the topics. Also, the fact that so much is included would make it easy to lose the forest among the trees. For example, the section on reporting results is longer than the section on identifying customer requirements, but of course if you've done a bad job on the latter, the former is a waste of time.
To make matters worse, the book is cluttered with boxes and lists named things like `step-by-step' and `checkpoints.' These are interspersed throughout the text, and while they may have been an attempt at clarity or simplicity, the result is just the opposite. They make the book seem even more disjointed.
If you just want to know about measuring customer satisfaction, you would be much better off buying the book with that title by James H. Myers. If part of your reason for wanting to know about measuring customer satisfaction is to put systems in place to meet the ISO standard, you would be better off buying the Myers book plus one of the more recent general books about the ISO standards (since customer focus was one of the major changes to the standards, all new ISO books discuss this issue).
A major key to ISO 9001:2000 certification.......2002-04-22
There is a single sentence in the new ISO 9001:2000 requirements that makes this book essential: "Customer perception, as to whether customer requirements have been met, shall be monitored". This book's sole purpose is to provide you with ISO 9001-friendly techniques for meeting the requirements in that sentence. The author provides a clear, 7-step process for tackling that daunting task:
(1) Identify your customers.
(2) Identify their requirements. (Maps to ISO requirements 5.2, 7.2.1).
(3) Determine what you're going to measure, and how.
(4) Measure satisfaction based on step 3. (Maps to ISO requirement 8.2.1).
(5) Analyze the data. (Maps to ISO requirement 8.4).
(6) Report the results.
(7) Communicate the results and employ continuous improvement methods. This complies with the change from the 1994 version in that continual improvement is now required, where it was only implied in the 1994 version.
What makes this book so valuable is that it reduces the complexities for meeting each of the requirements using the process to a series of steps in each process stage. Each chapter contains a summary of the goals, then gives step-by-step procedures needed to attain the goals, and identifies the deliverables that must be produced. This sounds simple on the surface. In reality implementing customer satisfaction requirements management, measurement and continuous improvement is a complex undertaking that not only touches virtually all parts of an enterprise, but also mandates a change in corporate culture.
Additional value in the form of worksheets and checklists covered in the appendices (and provided in electronic format on the CD ROM) make this book absolutely essential to any company that is pursuing certification (or are re certifying under the 2000 version).
Additional features of this book include: the author's extensive experience in customer satisfaction management is condensed into this reasonably short book, the book layout makes it easy to follow and find information, and the straightforward manner in which necessary information is presented. This is the only book, to the best of my knowledge, that solely focuses on this aspect of ISO 9001:2000. Fortunately, it covers all of the essentials and leads you step-by-step through the process of meeting this important set of requirements. I personally believe that it's the key to getting certified under the 2000 requirements because of the scope and magnitude of effort that is required to comply with a seemingly innocuous requirement that can be a major barrier to achieving certification.

ISO 9001, The Standard Interpretation
ASIN: 087389555X |
Book Description
While many ISO 9001:2000 books explain what each clause of the new standard means, this book focuses on the quality manual itself. This specialized guide shows you what is required to be in your manual and helps you determine how to include it in a manner that is helpful and appropriate for your organization.
One of the main features of this book is the inclusion of a sample practical quality manual. Grimes shows you how to develop each section of your manual and describes why each section of the sample manual is necessary for that company. For those who like to have a visual example of what the end product of your manual may look like, this book offers that and more.
Many organizations have already used the sample in this book to guide them in developing their own customized manual and none have failed to achieve certification. As ISO 9001:2000 offers a great deal of flexibility in determining what is appropriate for your organization, this book details how you can customize your manual to be just right for you.

Book Description
There has been no true breakthrough in the discipline of quality since 1934. There have only been fads and what Dr. Stanley Marash calls programmes du jour. Each has merit but too often companies get caught up in the more superficial aspects of these programschoosing smoke and mirrors over real opportunities for process improvement. As CEO of one of the largest management system training and consulting firms in North America, Dr. Marash draws on more than 40 years of experience working with some of the largest corporations in the United States, Europe and Asia to cut through the hype surrounding such well known quality techniques as Six Sigma, Lean, ISO 9001:2000, Baldridge and others. Fusion Management can help your organization achieve true performance breakthroughs by unlocking the best quality secrets of the past century. With Fusion Management you will: Understand why your management system initiatives are wasteful or duplicative, learn why past management initiatives failed, gain knowledge to avoid future failures and become skilled in applying the best modern management approaches to your business to achieve quantifiable business results.

Nice to know.......2006-06-11
Book info : 3rd edition published in 2004.
Pre required knowledge: ISO 9001:2000; 6 Sigma, Performance excellence.
Purchased price : USD 13,00
General : The book is written in a manor that half way the book you get bored. It uses quite a lot of abbreviations so that the author can show you how good he is.
Book content:
The book has got 6 chapters. Chapter 1 (13% of book content) gives a summary of the quality and management systems that have been introduced in the past century (over 30). It describes the creator of the system and it strengths and weaknesses.
Chapter 2 (16%) describes why quality systems were introduced in the industrial revolution, by government regulations and sector/customer specific. It also handles the migration from government and sector specific quality systems to general quality systems.
Chapter 3 (25%) shows that there is more then "document what we do, and do what is documented" and introduces management systems on top of quality systems. It handles the basics of Statistical Quality Control, Total quality Control, Total Quality Management, Lean , JIT and six Sigma.
Chapter 4 (12%) discusses awards like The Malcolm Baldrige National quality Award, what the requirements are for the award. Then these award specifications are compared with Six Sigma and ISO 9001:2000 and how they relate to an organisations Strategic, tactical and operational level.
Chapter 5 (13%) handles change management and what the key success factors are to achieve a successful change management.
Chapter 6 (21%) finally gives you a model for implementing fusion management, the part where you're waiting for. It is very specific and detailed; Not bad at all!
If you get passed the first four chapters you will be rewarded in chapters 5 and 6. Maybe my expectations were to high, based on the other reader's reviews, but if you are able to purchase this book for a reasonable price I recommend it.
Quality Management.......2003-08-20
As a long-term quality assurance professional, I was pleased to find in Fusion Management a book that does a good job of describing the chronological progression of, and linkages between, the various quality assurance paradigms and programs, e.g., Reengineering, Lean, ISO 9000, TQM, Six Sigma, etc. Dr. Marash describes the components of the programs and evaluates and recommends specific elements of past programs for incorporation into current quality program thinking. After a good review of quality history, Dr. Marash offers a compilation of the better elements of the better quality programs and describes how they can be synergistically integrated. He concludes with a step-by-step description of how to perform Fusion Management in your own company by identifying, selecting and integrating the "best of the best" in quality programs. This is a solid and well-presented book chocked full of quality information.
NOW IT ALL COMES TOGETHER.......2003-03-16
There have been so many management and quality theories over the years - but nobody has told us how they all fit together - in fact they always bad mouth different programs. This book tells how different quality philosophies build on one another. It also has real world examples of how to effectively implement ISO, Six Sigma and "Fusion Management". With the current economy and layoffs I'm ready to use the roadmap to get my company back on track. It is a good quick read, with interesting case studies (I read it on a four hour flight). It may be the most usable business book I've read in quite a long time.

Just what I was looking for.......2002-12-22
After ordering and returning several other ISO 9000 books, I found this book to be just what I was looking for. I find it very understandable especially for a comparative newcomer to the formal procedures of Quality Control. Having been authorized to see what ISO 9000 can do for our software engineering company, this book has provided me with a lot of enthusiasm for achieving a formal QMS.
