Myles Munroe is an excellent author and this book will give help you with what God has given you to do. My goal is read all of his books, all of his books are great, he's one of my favorites.

5 out of 5 stars Vision and purpose understood.......2007-09-12

If you want to really, fully understand how and why one is given a Christian spiritual gift like purpose and vision you will truly enjoy reading this book....it's hard for me to put it down...and I'm only into the 3rd chapter. Myles Monroe has been given a rare gift of explaining the actual "mechanics" of various spiritual gifts in terms that are so plain and understandable....I've read his book on prayer as well "Understanding the Purpose and Power of Prayer" it was TERRIFIC!! I can't wait to order another one of his books when I get through with this one.

5 out of 5 stars Great & Inspiring.......2007-02-19

I can't get enough of this book, every page is an "aha" moment. It's taking me to the next level. I think the book was written just for me, answering/addressing the questions I've had & couldn't seem to figure out the answers.

5 out of 5 stars A spiritually motivational booster shot!.......2006-11-10

Myles Munroe has done it again! In his own uniquely simplistic way of informing people who are searching, of the principles in scripture which help us to move forward in the purpose that God has given each of us. Munroe shows us how to identify the talents that God has given us and to utilize them to our fullest potential. This book along with the study guide helps the reader to remain on track in regard to prioritizing what is really important in life. The fulfillment of our individual purpose for being. It's not about competition, it's about purpose!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-10-10

I had the opportunity of taking a class on this book. The book is awesome. It made me think seriously on somethings I wanted to do in my life. One statement in this book was, "Stop procrastinating and hoping you will eventually get somewhere in life. Decide whether you're going to get a curse or a blessing." Revelation 3:15-16

I decided I would rather have a blessing and began to focus more towards my purpose in life. Knowing that God is my source and He would never give me a vision or assignment that I am not equipped for.

I also liked the Chapter Principles at the end of each chapter (ie. "If you don't have a plan, God doesn't have anything specific to direct you in.").

Everybody ends up somewhere in life.

You can end up somewhere on purpose!

Visioneering is the engineering of a vision. It’s the process one follows to develop and maintain vision. “Vision,” writes Andy Stanley , “is a clear mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be.”

In the bestselling Visioneering, Stanley builds a compelling case for the necessity of a clear, God-ordained vision for each of the roles of your life. Whether you’re a parent with a vision for your children or a CEO pursuing a corporate vision, Visioneering is the perfect tool to help you develop and maintain God’s unique purpose for your life.

“Visioneering is the best book on vision I’ve seen. It will put you on track to discovering God’s purpose for your life. In my course “The Vision of the Leader,” I quote from Andy’s book more than any other. Visioneering should be on the bookshelf of every pastor, business leader, and parent in America . I heartily endorse it!”

Story Behind the Book

Andy Stanley, the pastor of more than 15,000, knows a lot of people, and is well aware of the overwhelming and mutual desire nearly every Christian holds to find and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. This book was written to stir these hearts and move people forward by providing tangible steps to getting from Point A to Point B. “As Christians,” states Stanley, “we do not have a right to take our talents, abilities, experiences, opportunities, and education and run off in any direction we please.” This book was written to provide a specific plan for going in the right direction. It truly is “God’s blueprint for developing and maintaining personal vision.”

5 out of 5 stars A great read for future business and community leaders.......2007-08-26

I enjoy Andy's writing style and he has done a great job on Visioneering.

By adding a practical blueprint for creating your personal vision, Andy also lays out a path for creating a business vision. His views on lining up your business vision with your personal vision makes a lot of sense. As an entrepreneur who is now mentoring several business leaders and speaking around the world, I know how difficult it is to keep your business vision aligned with your personal vision and goals. This book really helps. There is no reason to put your life balance asside as you climb the business ladder. Check it out.

Visioneering: God's Blueprint for Developing and Maintaining Personal Vision
by Andy Stanley

This is essentially the paper-pack version of the author's earlier hard-back book bearing the same title. My copy of the hard-back was published in 2001.

With due respect & from a secular standpoint, - subtracting all the religious connotations in the book -, I want to say that this book is still a reasonably good book on personal strategic planning.

In particular, I like the author's definition & point of view: "Vision is a preferred future. A destination. Vision always stands in contrast to the world as it is. Visioneering is a clear mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be."

Also, among the eighteen chapters, Chapter 13: 'Moral Authority' is certainly an interesting chapter to read, as it is a material departure from most, if not all, visioning or visioneering books!

I reckon this book will appeal more to those readers with a Christian background. I had originally bought this book without realising it (in reality, I had overlooked the secondary title on the book cover), but I have no regrets.

5 out of 5 stars Own it! What are you waiting for?.......2006-08-25

This book has changed my personal and ministerial life as a pastor. You don't have to be a pastor to appreciate this work. Whoever you are and wherever you are, this book is for you. Life will never be the same for you.

5 out of 5 stars Taking the Leap .......2005-12-03

Books on vision are often dry and word-intensive. I was amazed at how this book was able to create a truly humorous book, while still communicating some very deep and essential concepts. I laughed my way through this delightful tale, and yet came away motivated to make positive changes in my life and to pursue my dreams. This was very easy to read, so much so that my 9 year old read and enjoyed it...but it is not a children's book per se...the messages are aimed towards adults.

5 out of 5 stars The lemming dilemna.......2002-04-10

The lemming dilemna
Lemming life was happy and pathetic until one time. Lemming life was the same each year, with a cliff jumping festival. The festival was filled with fun, and they had many booths that would amuse lemmings and a elvis look alike contest. But then, at the end of the festival, they would jump opff the cliff, at least those who were old enough. At the bottom of the cliff awas so called "happiness and joy". After all of these years, one lemming asked why they jumped. Everyone said it was what their ancestors did, so they must do it too. But she wanted too find an alternative, some way too see that this was not the way too end your life. But she did not know if there were bad things at the bottom of the cliff or not. She had a vidion and mad a catapult to launch herself over the cliff and too the other side. It was a paradise, and she could also see that there were spikes at the bottom of the cliff. Then she founded a travel\airport and lived happily. But there were still some who jumped...

5 out of 5 stars powerful book, changed my life.......2001-04-27

Simple, powerful, practical. I had read "The Fith Discipline" by Peter Senge and this book explained to me what was Personal Mastery all about in only a few pages using a powerful methaphor... You'll always remmember the story.. It worked for me... Now I feel that I have found my purpose in life.. I'm able to see want to create.

5 out of 5 stars A Short Tale Of "Tails".......2000-08-05

Look up "lemming" in the dictionary and you will read: a lemming is a small arctic rodent with a short tail. They also have an annoying habit of being followers, not leaders--thus the cliche, following the other lemmings off a cliff.

However, even lemmings need purpose. In this colorfully animated , 80 some odd page book, author David Hutchens and illustrator extrordinaire, Bobby Gombert, present some very important life lessons in a most remarkable way--simply, succinctly, and concisely.

Using clever humor, we read the story of Emmy the lemming. Emmy has an epiphiany and decides not to jump. She also rallies others to be leaders not followers. Through metaphors and muse, people of all ages are reminded--"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything"

As one of Hutchen's other books, "Outlearning The Wolves", this makes an excellent resource guide for teachers, parents, and business managers. Inclusion of probing questions for group discussion is a plus. Highly recommended, even for children.

other reading suggestions: "You've Earned It, Don't Lose it" by Suze Orman and "Outlearning The Wolves" by David Hutchens

3 out of 5 stars Decent........2006-10-06

Andy Stanley has established himself as one of the forefront leaders in today's church. In this text, Stanley argues that `vision' gives "significance to otherwise meaningless details of our lives", vision allows us to focus on a goal and a purpose (9). I would agree with Stanley that vision starts with a concern, or a `holy discontent'. From here, we let the vision mature, and we wait and pray before we act. This development is clear in the scripture of Nehemiah, which is the Biblical text and foundation through which Stanley makes his arguments. It is clear through the text that Andy Stanley had done his exegetical homework; the theme of Nehemiah's leadership strategy is well threaded throughout this book. We see that Nehemiah was patient with his vision, and through prayer and patience he saw it come to pass. It is good to notice that "every God ordained vision appears to be impossible" (41). This is the point, knowing that God always has you where He wants you, and is a "master strategist" as Stanley argues. This is why `the `what' always precedes the `how', "often you will know the what before you understand the how" (55).

I am glad that Stanley never looses focus on God, in the `what' and the `how' of life's problems. Faith is an essential ingredient to the God ordained visions He gives His people. "Embracing and owning a vision is in itself an act of faith" (63), but it is important to investigate the vision. Stanley contends that investigation confirms the `divine origin' of the vision. Investigation gives the visionary more definition and focus in being God's worker who works towards the outcome. Investigation also `tips you off' to whether the vision is `of God' in the first place. Once these steps have taken place, it is important to `cast' this God ordained vision to the people who are going to help in the process of bringing this vision to fruition. Stanley gives `four components' of effective vision casting, realizing that there is a problem, looking for a solution, articulating the reason something must be done, and finally, proving why something must be done now! "After all, a vision is a solution", therefore it must be clearly cast so that others will buy into the vision (90).

In chapter nine, Stanley departs from the storyline just a bit in order to explore the implications of words. Words can be powerfully used for good or for evil, to build or destroy. Stanley writes to show the reader that we, as leaders, cast vision all the time in how we talk and live in our `everyday' setting. This is a very practical and helpful section of this book. Along with respect and position comes accountability and influence. Every situation and dialogue we enter into has impact on the people around us, and can be used to `play to the strengths' of those around us. This is a very insightful observation because it shows us the implications of day to day contact with others. Stanley quotes John Maxwell as saying "people buy into the leader before they buy into the vision, and people buy into the vision after the leader buys it". This will often cost sacrifice on the leader's part, and faith that God will provide strength and confidence as you pursue His vision.

Stanley then moves towards an understanding of criticism. Along with visions comes criticism. Visions are often seen as a threat to the way things have always been done and they aggravate the insecurities of those who do not want change. However, it is important to understand that without friction, there is no movement. Stanley calls the readers to respond to criticism with prayer, remembrance, and if necessary, a revision of the plan (160). There is also the importance of keeping the people aligned with the vision. "Regardless of how effectively you cast your vision initially, eventually some team member will work his way out of alignment", and visions tend to die in an environment of division (165). To ward off such division the leader must lead by influence, this is far more important than position. Stanley argues that maintaining moral authority is more important than the vision itself, (184) never breach your integrity. The proposed `recipe' for moral authority is character, sacrifice, and time (190-194). As the leader, it is also important that you avoid distraction. Remember, people are following you.

In the last few chapters, the focus becomes more and more refined on God's purposes for vision. The success that God gives us is not for our sake, but for His glory. "God's ultimate plan for your life reaches beyond your life" and becomes a "beacon in a world that desperately needs to see something divine, something clearly not of this world", namely, the glory of God (225). God always reveals himself in the midst of visions He has authored. "The end of a God inspired vision is God", but we must be careful, lest we want to take credit ourselves (245). It is true that the notion of a credit taking God is uncomfortable, but it is only logical. Never lose the sense of the divine nature of God's work through your life. God's glory is His ultimate agenda (270).

Andy Stanley's "Visioneering" is one of the great modern works in helping leaders define `vision' as it pertains to their lives. He has provided a great tool in helping the reader refine, develop and maintain God's specific purpose in his/her life. Overall this was a good read, easy and understandable. I am pleased that there is a God-centered taste to this book, even though at times the book tends to lean towards the self-help category of writing, it eventually comes back to God.

5 out of 5 stars A great book on Christian leadership..........2006-07-23

In contrast to many books on leadership, even those written by Christian leaders, Andy Stanley manages to draw out over a dozen key principles from the story of Nehemiah's journey in leading the people of Israel to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. I have appreciated some of those more secular leadership books, including Stanley's "Next Generation Leader," as I have tried to development my own skills, but I found his biblical approach here to be refreshing.

I used the audiocassette version of this book, which was read by Andy Stanley and presumably significantly abridged. So, I cannot attest to the entire text of the book. However, even in bulleted form with the key points highlighted in the audio version, there was much wisdom to glean from Stanley's analysis of Nehemiah.

I highly recommend this leadership book, particularly for leaders within the church, and I look forward to listening to it again!!

5 out of 5 stars This Book Has It All.......2006-06-12

Most leadership books focus on a specific portion of leadership (i.e. competency or character, method or motive, personal or public, etc.) In so doing these books almost guarantee enthusiastic support from like minded persons and criticism from others.

VISIONEERING is more balanced than most. The book's subtitle is very accurate. "God's blueprint for developing and maintaining personal vision." This book is based on Scripture and attempts to follow God's definition of leadership. This book is extremely practical in offering advice on developing and maintaining vision. This book delves deeply into the personal character of the leader. This book offers concrete guides for a vision that yields public impact. In short, this book may not go as deeply as any one person may like, but everyone should accept it. More importantly, every Christian leader should be stretched by it.

SUGGESTION: Because of its balance and ability to stretch people this is the probably the next book I will take our entire church leadership team through. If you are looking for a book to offer to your leaders, this is a good one. I suggest that each pastor buy a copy of this book for board members and take them through it as a small group discussion guide. It will help the board members understand the pastor, support the pastor better, and will also make the board members better leaders in their own ministries.

5 out of 5 stars A seminal work!.......2006-04-18

Few authors have the skill of presenting biblical truth in such practical dress! Andy Stanley has hit a home run. I have read this book twice, a year apart, and have catalogued over 30 cross-referenced topics from its pages.

From the Old Testament Book of Nehemiah, Stanley propounds 20 building blocks for discovering, articulating, and growing vision in personal life. The book has 18 projects, one following each chapter, most of which were personally helpful.

While being a Bible based book, this work has direct practical application that will fit nearly any kind of vision in any field. It moves to that rare highest category in my library: a five star must read!

Author IYANLA VANZANT offers a spectular guide line, for every man who want to know his spiritual side of themself. The book offers a great guide for Afro-Americans, especially young African American male. My two elder brother read this book and they recommended i read it. This is the first book of VANZANT that i have read, and i would recommmend young African Americans to really read this book. "America's greatest crime against the Black man was not slavery or the lynching, but that he was taught to wear a mask of slef-hate and self-doubt" -Malcolm X

The Author included this quote in the book, It truely inspired me to think about who I am as a young Africa American male. Thank You VANZANT

    5 out of 5 stars Iyanla, I love you!.......1997-08-19

I am a 21 year old black man, who for so long knew that there was more to life but could not figure out what it was. Months of searching lead me to realize that I had to become more spiritual. I went on to read numerous books on spirituality and self-improvement, but after learning these principles I had no way of applying them. This book showed me how to apply what i had learnt and also taught me a lot more things about life and my relationship with the Creator. This book is a must for every black man or woman who is at the entrance of the tunnel, sees the light at the end, but does not know how to walk through. Iyanla took my hand and I'm sure she'll take yours. After she has lead you to the light, you learn the ultimate lesson: you have been and will always be able to lead others through this tunnel.

    Book Description

In Illuminations, Stephen Paul drew from his experience as a therapist, counselor, and teacher to compose a collection of proverbs to inspire and assist those seeking personal change and renewal. Inneractions continues this process through and beyond the point of "illuminations," offering meditations and proverbs designed to enhance and sustain the growth, change, and self-acceptance that have been achieved. This book is for those who have been willing to face their personal issues and do the work necessary to remove the inhibitions, misconceptions, fears, and doubts that have limited them in the past.

Stating that is now the time "to catch the rhythm and join the dance" and "to pass through the door when it opens," Inneractions provides a clear roadmap for integrating the self with the beauty of the natural world and for being able to accept and receive its gifts.

5 out of 5 stars This little book is a great encourager........2003-03-04

This book is terrific for inspiration and uplift when you don't want to plow through a lot of words! The illustrations equally enhance the short affirmations. I wish I could order some of Max Collins illustrations. This review applies to all three books, "Illuminations", "Inneractions", and "Love." Stephen Paul keeps us on the right track with a change of viewpoint toward ourselves, our loved ones, and the world. I have bought extra copies and given them to friends who appreciate the words and visual effect too. I highly recommend them. I'm sorry some are out of print.

1 out of 5 stars Stay with the predecessor.......2000-06-26

I read Stephen C. Paul's first book, Illuminations, many times. It is a spiritual wonder, a way to keep yourself honest and on the path you _should_ be on, especially if you randomly select a page to "read." I was extremely disappointed with this volume as I felt it lacked the spirit and movement of Illuminations. I expected it to be a follow-up, a companion volume. Instead, I found the text to feel forced, as if it was written on the heels of Illumination's success. Remember writing term papers on deadline? This was no different. The book felt rushed and the concepts within lack the depth and "illumination" of the previous volume. Maybe Mr. Paul should take some time off and rethink before he writes again.

5 out of 5 stars How to effect change in your life with harmony........1997-09-04

This book is very similar in layout and design to the author's and artist's first book, "Illuminations". In that book, author Stephen Paul gave aphorisms that assist one to make changes in one's life. In this, what could be called a sequel, the author gives a different slant. It is for those who have been willing to face their personal issues, and confront their fears, doubts and misconceptions. In the author's words, "I have tried to suggest the life that lies beyond the changes; the life that we change to have."

This book is a very good companion to it's predecessor. I found it very helpful, though I would recommend "Illuminations" be read first, if possible. "Inneractions" serves a different but related purposes. It is more to do with enacting and developing changes already confronted by us.

In this book the author uses, again through short but powerful aphorisms, various tools found in other books. Tools like "creative visualisation", popularised by author Shakti Gawain and "affirmations", attributed to Louise Hay (author of "You Can Heal Your Life") and others. Perhaps what distinguishes Paul's books from others is his uncanny ability to put so much meaning and self-evident truth into what could be called short codes. Just a brief saying can really get your self 'happening' on so many different levels.

5 out of 5 stars Strong Application for Habit Building.......2006-10-12

I suffer from ADD (diagnosed three years ago) at the age of 40. I have learned since, many solutions to ADD-related issues are intertwined with proper awareness and planning. I have done my best to educate myself but I have found this book to be more effective than most when I apply the activities to combat my ADD. The book is effective because the activities encourage implementation and continual measurements. It brings focus and simplicity to the areas I wish to work upon, allow me to create a successful vision, and the measurements to ensure my progress.

I would highly recommend this book to leaders; to create tools for themselves and for those under them.

5 out of 5 stars Practicle, Simple, Fun, and Incredible.......2006-08-31

This book is practical, simple, fun and incredible. I really enjoyed it. For me it is a must read . . . and must do! What I mean by practical is the book is really a workbook filled with creative activities that draw you in to exploring your life. By simple, I mean it is easy to understand. It just makes sense. By fun I mean this book is more like play than reading. You'll pull in your friends, family, artistic talents, and even old recepies from your youth. Totally fun! Finally it is just incredible. I was a sceptic at first but to my surprise I came up with a Vision that really works. It is really pulling my life together with balance and purpose that I never saw before.

    Book Description

When do we need vision? During times of growth, change or opportunity -- so that we know we're headed in the right direction. We also need vision during times of uncertainty -- when we've lost confidence in our leaders, our institutions or ourselves. Instead of focusing on "what's next," we need to refocus on "what's first." Getting back to the basics means knowing who you are, where you're going, and what will guide your journey -- having a vision. When work is meaningful and connected to what we truly desire, we tap into a productive and creative power stronger than we ever imagined.

In Full Steam Ahead! you'll learn:

    • How to use the power of vision to get focused, get energized and get great results
    • How to create a vision that touches the hearts and spirits of everyone in your organization
    • How to create a vision for your own life that provides meaning and direction

The lessons of Full Steam Ahead! are surprisingly simple, practical and powerful. They demonstrate that vision is not only necessary, but also possible and achievable.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best Blanchard book I've read.......2007-04-20

Very good and practical. This time the story is actually interesting, rather than a lame backdrop. The lady who reads the audio book does an outstanding job. All in all very good.

5 out of 5 stars This book will help when you think about goals for the new year!.......2006-12-06

The transformational power of a compelling vision in one's life or business is compared in this book to the impact of the steam engine on modern industrialization. Like the first steam locomotives or steamships, "full steam ahead" means "being fully powered, knowing where you're going, and moving ahead full force."

Ken Blanchard and Jesse Stoner use this analogy throughout the book to emphasize the power of a strong vision, or purpose, and the commitment to stay on course and achieve that vision despite obstacles. Written in the storytelling style reminiscent of Blanchard's best-selling book The One Minute Manager, this book has a style different from most others in the general business category. It reads more like a novel, in which the two main characters apply the principles of creating a vision for their lives and their business. The concept of developing a compelling vision is taught through the revelations of a company owner trying to put the spark back into his company's vision and an employee trying to establish a personal family vision to improve her relationship with her children.

The book focuses on three key elements of an effective vision: purpose, values, and a picture of the future. It refers to the Apollo Moon Project to illustrate the distinction between a goal and a vision: "a vision is enduring." It advises readers to "focus on the end result, not the process for getting there." It also offers a checklist to use to test whether a vision is compelling.

The book was inspired by years of experience with organizations, which uncovered the fact than "less than 10 percent of organizations . . . had a clear purpose, a set of operating values, or a picture of the future." Blanchard is a renowned speaker. author of more than thirty bestselling business books, and owner of The Ken Blanchard Companies. Stoner, also a respected speaker, consultant, and author, is president of Seapoint Center, established to provide training in personal and professional leadership and vision creation.

While it seems that as much of the book is spent developing the characters as discussing the elements of vision, the story is successful in holding the reader's attention and clearly getting the point across. Like the dream of Martin Luther King that still lives on, "the mark of a true visionary leader is that the vision continues beyond the lifetime of the person who articulated it."

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended! For both your work and for your personal life........2006-08-09

I read Full Steam Ahead! for the second time this week. I had originally purchased the book last winter because my boss wanted us to create a shared vision. Everyone in our department read the book and then we followed the process described by the authors. It has been an amazing experience for all of us. I saw my boss shift from someone who had good intentions but tended to be over-controlling and mistrustful to someone who was willing to let all us to take charge and make decisions. Because we all shared the same vision and values, we all began to trust each other more also. The atmosphere at work is, well... all I can say is I look forward to going to work each day. We have fun and are more productive than ever. The quality of our work has increased immeasurably and we get great feedback from our customers.

Which leads me to why I read the book again. The first time I read it, I read it to get the instructions and learn the concepts for how to create a vision at work. Having lived the results, I decided to read it again to see how I could improve my own life. I remembered there was advice in the book for how to apply it at a personal level, but hadn't paid a lot of attention to it at the time. After finishing the book, I realized that I have been doing a lot of these things. So that was confirming. And it helped me get a sense of what else I need to be doing. Here are a few of the ideas from the book that I think are very helpful-- but you really should read the book because there are so many more helpful ideas than I could write about here. And, it's a fun, easy book to read!

    1. Purpose: As human beings, a deep sense of purpose gives our lives more meaning. Some people find their purpose through religion. Others through social service. Others through arts and other forms of self-expression. We are each unique individuals and no one can tell us what our purpose is. We need to discover it ourselves. Putting it into words and writing it down, helps us to get clear and to stay focused on our purpose. It may take time to get clear about your purpose. Write something down, read it over time, revise it as things become more clear.

    2. Values: We are hold deeply beliefs about what is right and wrong. When we are clear about our values and consciously use them to guide us, we make decisions that we feel good about living with. It is important to identify the top 3 to 5 values.

    3. Picture of the future: It's not enough to just be clear about our purpose and values. It is powerful to close your eyes and imagine what it looks like when you are fulfilling your purpose and living your values. Sports trainers understand the power of mental imagery to enhance performance. Creating pictures of what it actually looks like forces us into a proactive mindset that enables us to move forward more easily.

    4. Goals are only milestones. They are short-term. Don't confuse them with your vision. You may need to change goals as your circumstances change. Your vision is something that will guide you over time. It may change, but mostly to become more clear.

    5. Take action. As you take a step, the next one will become clear. As you become clear about your values, live by them. As you become clear about your purpose, find ways to fulfill it. You can plan forever. Living is about acting. Mistakes are inevitable. The only problem with mistakes is when you don't learn from them. If you learn from them, then set your sights again on your vision and set your path again.

    5 out of 5 stars Fabulous!.......2005-05-19

Full Steam Ahead! is the best book I've read this year. My husband and I own our own business. After both reading the book, we sat down together and created a vision for our business. It was exciting and helped us get really focused. We were then able to discuss it with our employees. Their ideas made our vision even richer. And, to our delight, created an amazing amount of energy. We are all working so much better together now. I can't say more. You need to read the book yourself and then you'll understand.

However, I would like to add that we also created a vision for our family with our two children (ages 11 and 15). Once again, it was an amazing experience. The kind of discussion we had was so different from anything than we had done before. It really helped us all understand and appreciate each others' viewpoints better and to also understand how much we share the same values. (Big relief!)

So, even if you are not in business, I highly recommend this book! It can be used in so many ways.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful, practical, useful!.......2005-01-30

Full steam ahead is a phenomenal book. It was critical to my understanding of vision. Prior to reading to this book, my understanding of vision was fuzzy at best, limited to what I know in scripture. Of vision, scripture states (Habakkuk 2:2) that we should write the vision and make it plain upon tables that he that reads it might run with it. The Hebrew word for vision, `chazown', indicates that the vision is a mental picture. Beyond that, I had never been clear on the elements of a vision, neither did I have a clear idea of how to craft a vision statement.

Now I understand that vision is all about knowing who you are (clear purpose), where you are going (picture of the future), and what will guide your journey (values). Your values guide you when you hit opposition or obstacles. I have been able to use these concepts and others presented in the book to craft a vision that is energizing and provides focus and direction. I have been able to explain it so that others want to support me. And, I have been amazed at the results.

Thank you, Ken Blanchard and Jesse Stoner for writing this book. You have offered a valuable service in helping people learn how to go Full Steam Ahead!
