Common Sense Approach to Rules.......2006-11-10
I think this book is great. I am a young (under 30), short girl. Do you know how hard it is to be taken seriously in an all-male manufacturing environment? These are classy ways to still be a woman and taken like the professional I am. I notice the difference in obeying the rules and then sometimes just wearing whatever I want. This book is valid to my career. I am a Finance Manager, the financial consultant to the business.
Overall good but, very outdated .......2006-11-04
Good overall message about dressing professional but, the clothing styles he writes about are from the 1980's.
Not very helpful for business casual.......2006-11-03
I appreciate John Molloy's research into business clothing; however, this book is only helpful if you work in a company where clothing is not too casual, or if you need to figure out what to wear for job interviews. If every day is "business casual" at your job, this book will help you figure out the best colors and quality, but it won't help you understand what to wear. John advocates always wearing a business-like skirt when possible, and always having a jacket on hand. In my job as a computer programmer, where most men where slacks and polo shirts, this would be too formal.
The book is somewhat repetitive, but it helps to drill the right attitude into your mind - clothes are important, quality is very important, and navy blue is always a good choice. There are a few black-and-white illustrations, but they seem outdated to me.

Still Relevant For Today.......2006-07-15
I was never a fan of Malloy's books when I first read them in the 1980s and 1990s. But I must admit that his basic principles hold true today. Classic attire is best for interviews and companies (such as pharmaceutical sales) that are still traditional suits-only fields. He is also correct when he says that the fashion industry works against professional attire for women, and that if you are excessively stylish in a corporate setting, you will lose credibility. Changing fashion styles are an incredible waste of money. However, you should disregard the outdated suits, rigid hairstyles and hard attache case in favor of more contemporary classic styles. A better book for that is "Dressing Smart" by Chic Simple Author Kim Johnson-Gross. Moreover, if you work in a creative field, you must not follow the navy & white starched formula of dressing--this could get you demoted. Malloy does mention this point, but doesn't really advise for creative jobs.
read it and do what it says.......2006-03-22
All women should read it and do what it says. As a manager, I know what high importance is placed on presentation. In the workplace today, people have become too casual. Why not do all you can to earn more money, gain more respect and be percieved optimally as a professional? It is very easy for women to make wardrobe mistakes at the office today because of the sexy and casual fashions we see in all the stores. This is a bible for the working woman!

Success and the Self-Image by Zig Zigar.......2007-05-07
I purchased this DVD based on previous highly rated reviews. Unfortunately, for me, the heavy-accented, preach-from-the-pulpit style of presentation irritated me so much that I lost all sense of its content. What little I did absorb might have appealed to audiences of the 70s and 80s era, but his repetive humdrum was not my cup of tea.
Feel Good about Your Life.......2007-04-01
If you enjoy being motivated then Zig is for you. Good ole country boy that is an excellent speaker. Get pumped on your way to work!
Very Uplifting.......2007-01-14
I appreciate the real life experiences used in his story. I love his voice. I listen to this every trip over three hours! Well worth the investment - it will change your life.
Put this one on the top shelf!.......2006-12-12
The only thing I knew about Mr. Ziglar before buying this audio cd was that he was a Christian named Zig. I came to find out more about this great speaker through about 2 hours of solid commentary. He speaks universal truths and gives real life examples to convince you that there is no doubt that what he is saying is real deal. If the more you give, the more you get philosophy is not one you are sold out on yet, Mr. Zig Ziglar will clear up any confusion with his memorable tales. Big ups!
Simply life changing.......2006-11-13
Extremely motivating. I would highly reccomend this life changing piece by Zig Ziglar!
Book Description
At last...a revealing book at how your appearance may determine your success and happiness in life. Jeffes helps readers to determine if they have been discriminated against because of their appearance. Appearance is Everything will enable you to critically examine how your appearance may influence relationships, academic performance, and career advancement.
Customer Reviews:
Worthless advertisement for Steve Jeffes' expert testimony services.......2007-09-06
Aristotle once said "good looks are a better introduction than any letter". Books on this topic should explain why this quote (and its corrollary) are the case. This book does not even make an attempt to do this. Instead it is a rambling advertisement for Steve Jeffes' expert testimony services in what Jeffes claims to be a new form of discrimination. Worthless.
Research needs.......2007-01-11
I am a doctoral student in psychology hence the nature/needs of mine in relations to this book. Results quoted were mostly on a superficial level and for my needs insufficient.
Excellent, well researched book.......2005-02-17
I am a professional and for many years I have known that the information presented in this book is basically true. We dont like to admit it is true or admit that we are shallow and superficial, but as a society, we are. I've seen relationships break up, simply because one of the partners gained weight. We are living in a era where the media constantly provides us with an "ideal" and we are programmed to seek that "ideal". This is a great book in terms of motivation to lose weight and other forms of self improvement. Overweight people are facing a lot more than just health risks, they are being judged negatively and labeled. This affects their lives on many levels .i.e. career, income potential, sexual desireability and the list goes on and on. The author encourages people to upgrade their appearance, because, like it or not, that is how we are judged. Appearance is the first "filter" that people use, to determine how they will interact with you or IF they will interact with you. A good book for overcoming the denial thinking that looks dont count. think-again
Amazing Insights into Appearance.......2003-06-13
This book has really made me stop and think how I view and treat others based on appearance. This book is a must read for anyone who is curious on how their appearance impacts their career, relationships (I am now looking at my own now more differently), children (including bullying at school), wealth, and how we treat others every day. I can truly say that based on this book, I recognize myself as a person who discrimated based upon a person's appearance and transitioned this mostly subconscious process to more conscious process. Very revealing book. Great reading, but not one your going to finish in one sitting. You need to read a section, process the thought then move onto the next section. Still an excellent book!
What's the big secret ?.......2002-03-10
I think we all inately know this subject well and I was interested that it never comes up in corporate policymaking when addressing other discrimination factors such as race and gender. Appearance is subjective, but also universal. In one company session on diversity a young, very attractive, intelligent and personable black woman taught. She seemed overly enthusiastic and reveled in the fact that everyone deserves equal and fair treatment (no argument!) She had obviously overcome so much in her professional career, being young, black, female, and admittedly poor in childhood. But she completely ignored what we all seemed to recognize and that not one person said a word about, the fact that she was a very beautiful person and that this might have something to do with success (certainly not the only factor). I was too intimidated to bring it up, but it catalyzed me to do a net search and see what I could find on the subject. This book is very good and puts down into words the very thoughts that we all live and act out in our daily interelations but may not own up to. I have found several new and unexpected things in the book as well as some excellent summations of my own thinking. It is well organized and thorough, easy to understand, and not technical. My objective in reading it was to help organize my own thoughts and develop an approach to improve dating and interpersonal relationships (I'm recently divorced and rated myself as average in attractiveness). The book is well worth the effort to obtain it. Also, the next time I am required to endure another company class on diversity I will have the courage to ask why the factor of appearance has not been brought up for discussion knowing there is a credible reference available.

Things my mother tried to tell me........2006-09-23
As a former clothing buyer spending all of my work time selecting, presenting, and advertising the latest fashions I now wish I had Sherry's book to impress upon me personally how very important MY dress was to my success. She has impressed me with her convincing argument that although what you say is important, how you say it via dress is about 55% of that impression. I loved her real life, before and after stories which has left me paying much more attention to my new leisure image. Thanks Sherry!
Excellent.......2006-05-19
I re-read this book again and realized how lazy I had gotten on my dress. I went through my closet again and anything that did not wow me, I through out. The last couple of months I have followed the guidelines of this book and have been amazed the way I am treated differently at work. My boss now includes me on meetings, that I never attended before and has given me a lot more responsibility. I went from sundresses and sandals to a much more professional dress and the results have been amazing.
Thank you for this book, it has changed my life.
Dress for Success.......2005-07-19
With "Business Casual" being the norm now in what to wear to the office, this book is great at giving you insight on how to dress for success at the workplace in a business casual environment. Filled with lots of helpful tips and how to "get noticed" at work by those who matter!!
Very interesting to put to the test.......2005-05-20
I'm more of a "tomboy," who like to dress comfortably and casually. I work for a corporation that allows this and have worn cargo shorts, short sleeved shirts, and other very casual attire to the workplace.
When my company went through a shakeup (that eventually resulted with many employees being cut), I started to implement much of the advice from this book. Suddenly, though I had always been overlooked, I was noticed by management and was actually asked to apply for a more senior position.
In response to the person who says that a person in a low-level position can't benefit from _Casual Power_, I would say that it is not true. I'm in a completely entry-level position at a customer-service oriented phone call center. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, almost 2 million workers in America have a similar position. How are you going to stand out if you are one of these 2 million? Despite my entry-level income, I was able to afford better clothing at discount stores such as Target or by shopping online.
In addition, this book even has advice as to how to "power up" your look if you're stuck in a "work uniform" such as those worn in fast food or retail locations. It is for people at all levels in the work force.

From Joe Catal. Author of the book "Telesales Tips From The Trenches". As a national sales trainer, this book is a must for anyone who wants to get ahead at the job and their career. The majority of sales people I train don't realize how they're destroying their own success by the way they dress. This book will teach you exactly what you need to learn to have the image you want/need to succeed. One of the best books I've ever read in my life. Get it, you won't be disappointed.
Joe Catal.
P.S. Be prepared to be beat up a little. This isn't a cutsy book. It's rough and to the point. I loved it!
Customer Reviews:
An excellent primer for exploring the real potential of the everyday human.......2007-06-25
This was probably one of the most innovative books I've read in a while. The exercises alone made this book a great read, but she also did an excellent job of explaining the underlying theory behind the exercises. I'll admit I liked this book a lot because it does go hand in hand with some of my own experiments, but I think that anyone who's interested in exploring the full potential of the human body will really enjoy this book, because the author shows you just how to do that. Her exercises are open-ended enough to allow for innovation on the part of the reader.
What I also really liked was that she did an excellent job of citing her sources and providing readers endnotes that fleshed out tangential concepts related to the main focus in each chapter.
The Possible Human : A Course in Enhancing Your Physical, Mental, and Creative Abilities.......2007-01-12
Dr. Jean Houston in one of the greatest thinkers of our time and, indeed, a force of nature when it comes to exploring the boundaries of Human Capacities. Buckminster Fuller called her mind "The Eighth Wonder of the World." Anything she writes is worth reading. Everyone knows that we use only a fraction of our total capacities. Through misuse, neglect, and even bad training, all of us have lost the full potential of our minds and bodies. In the past two decades, much has been learned about reclaiming these lost abilities. Dr. Houston, the leading exponent in this area, describes how each of us can remove blocks so that we can see more, hear more, remember more, and draw on more of our inner resources. She offers a comprehensive program of exercises through which the reader can test her conclusions and integrate them into his or her own life. Based on twenty years of research, this book not only extends our concept of what the "possible human" is, but how to get there.
The missing pieces.......2001-04-12
Wondering why the world makes no sense? Our culture denies or denigrates so much of the core of human experience. Dr. Houston walks you through practical exercizes to regain your birthright as a human being. I'm not fond of 'self-help' books, most of them are rubbish. But I bought copies of this one for my family, because the information in it changed my perspective about myself and the world I have to live in. I highly recommed it for intelligent people who want solid information.

Customer Reviews:
This book is pure "crap".......2005-05-16
I should of paid more attention to the other reviews of this book before making my buying decision. My copy as well ended up in the garbage, where it belongs. Not only is the author inaccurate, most of the chapters are redundant; cut and paste statements. The individual that wrote this book should consider a new profession, and stop writing books. Needless to say, it deserves less than a 1 star. I am so mad at myself for wasting my time and money on this piece of garbage.
Would have been better with photos.......2004-12-17
There are some good pointers in this book but I would have liked to seen photos and more visual examples.
Lacking depth.......2002-03-05
I am a firm believer in ongoing personal development, so I have continued to read and grow my perspective. Your Executive Image looked interesting because of attention given to clothing, space, gestures, etc...
Then I read it. Not all of it, but as much as I could before I realized this was a waste of time. For instance, the entire posture chapter could have been replaced with a single line: Posture is important as it conveys confidence or insecurity... The rest of the chapter reinforced this one point. Twenty minutes of time for a thirty-second concept. In some chapters, I didn't even see a worthwhile thirty-second concept (like the chapter on space).
Money could have been better spent elsewhere.
Excellent Use Of Time.......2001-07-21
This book continues all the sound advice I have received from my parents while I was growing up. The material contained in this book is an excellent reference for any person at any level of employment. I have been able to easily relate parts of the book to past experiences.
Getting To The Top.......2001-07-20
If a business minded individual wants to successfully make it to the top of the corporate ladder, then this book is a must. The author explains in great detail exactly what it takes to achieve "Your Executive Image." To keep and maintain employment the right image is a must and the author takes you there and keeps you there. I give this book as a gift to all of my friends.
