Book Description
A complete update of the definitive guide to the planning and scheduling of construction projects
Now with a dedicated Web site containing a downloadable version of the premier CPM scheduling software program-Micro Planner Manager(r) from MicroPlanning International for both Windows(r) and Macintosh platforms
This Fourth Edition of Construction Project Management reaffirms the book's status as the industry-leading, definitive guide to the Critical Path Method (CPM) of project scheduling. It combines a solid foundation in the principles and fundamentals of CPM with particular emphasis on project planning. A highway bridge with a complete cost estimate is used to illustrate each of the principles of project management. Using this basic information and the case studies in the appendix, students are given project management problems and hands-on project management experience.
Important features of Construction Project Management, Fourth Edition include:
* Complete coverage of planning and scheduling principles that apply to every type of construction project
* Special emphasis on the most difficult and important part of CPM-the planning process
* A new chapter on production planning, the process of turning the project plan into efficient workplace operations
* New methods for handling construction contingency planning and weather delays
* In-depth coverage of the legal aspects of CPM scheduling
* Large illustrations conveniently tucked into a back cover pocket
An excellent text for both building construction and construction engineering students, this book is also an indispensable on-the-job reference for builders, architects, civil engineers, and other construction professionals.
Customer Reviews:
you read and may become a consultant.......2006-10-11
I recommend this book for its full coverage on all the aspects of construction management, approaching the real field problems, solutions, tips and the very well explained example that is built chapter by chapter.
Theory and practice merge in a very palatable way. Any one who read it carefully, may become a consultant on Construction Management.
a useful book to who will devote oneself to PM egineer.......2000-06-01
this book is instructive!
Book Description
This book is written by an experienced scheduler, who has used the software at the sharp end of projects and not a techo. The book is designed to teach planners and schedulers in any industry how to setup and use the software in a project environment. It explains in plain English and in a logical sequence, the steps required to create and maintain an unresourced and resourced schedule. It tackles some of the more complex aspects of the software that the user manual does not address. It highlights the sources of information and the methods that should be employed to produce a realistic and useful project schedule. It draws on the author's practical experience in using the software in a wide variety of industries. It presents workable solutions to real day to day planning and scheduling problems and contains practical advice on how to set up the software and import data. It includes exercises, a large number of screen dumps, numerous tips and an index.

Primavera 5.0.......2007-10-21
While I appreciate the content of the text, the text must be studied in conjunction with the program. Text needs to present more visuals aids in the absence of access to a very costly program. The class I am currently enrolled in needs to provide lab time to study the text in conjunction with the program.
Customer Reviews:
A 'must have' book!.......2000-03-16
I fully recommend this book for any new user of P3. I considered it as a "must have" title.
Not so hot.......2000-01-21
This book and the reviews I had read about it made it sound like a stand-alone guide to Project Planner. I found it to be inconsistent in its presentation, ranging anywhere from speaking to a infant in the computer world to assuming I already knew what I was doing. The detail in it's instruction was just not what it appeared to be, and that hurt my overall rating of the book. If you have the book right next to you and you've already gone through the tutorial, then you've got a fighting chance to get through this book without wasting your money or your time.
Excellent!.......1999-01-28
This book provides an overview of the scheduling process first. Then, the author starts to tie P3 into puzzle. The end result is that you have resource that you can read from start to finish, and also use it as a reference once you have finished reading the book. The author also touches on many of the advanced capabilities of P3. I am somewhat biased toward this book. The author is the one who actually taught me how to use P3 while developing this book. He teaches a class on scheduling at Texas A&M University. I am currently recommending my coworkers who are involved in scheduling to read this book. I would highly recommend it to anyone involved in scheduling with P3 or Suretrak. We have had great success with teaching our project managers how to use P3 using this book. The first part of the book is usefull for project managers who are not involved in P3 "hands-on", but who are involved in projects that use P3. It helps the project managers understand the scheduling process. It also helps the project scheduler because the project manager is providing better feedback.

Customer Reviews:
Probably one of the best books on CPM ever written.......2007-05-12
This is by far the most interesting and comprehensive book I've ever read on project scheduling. The concept of Momentology is much more viable than Critical Chain and should really deserve more attention.
Although not for the novice scheduler, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone interested in CPM.
Customer Reviews:
Not the best book out there.......2007-08-26
This was presented as a text for a continuing education class and I read it cover to cover. For a third edition, it still has a lot of typos and other annoying errors. It just doesn't seem like a professional manual. There is no glossary, and much of the book is taken up by tables and specs for an imaginary project. Also, I an others in the class who have years of experience in the trades found it confusing or worthless. It just isn't a well organized book. I found better information online for free.

Required reading for a construction management course.
A bit dissappointing.......2006-02-25
The book was shrink wrapped but it was damaged. Not sure if it was the fault of the publisher or the seller but in either case I expected a better product.
