This is a reference book, not an adventure novel.......2007-01-18
I purchased this to study for the CDT exam. It is very complete, but reads (as you'd expect) more like a specification than a textbook. Five stars for completeness, and five stars for cure for insomnia.
Excellent counterpart to the AIA Handbook........2007-01-07
First off, I'm an architect, so my review is written from that perspective.
This is a great companion to the AIA Handbook. If the AIA Handbook is about running a firm, the CSI PRM is about running a project. An oversimplification, yes, but both books are so dense and full of critical information, no 100 word review could do either justice.
The CD includes many useful references including an overview of MasterFormat and a list of divisions / sections, but does not include the entire MasterFormat "product" (the full MF product includes 95-04 conversion tools and additional documentation).
My only complaint is that the text is so dense it takes a lot of time and energy to absorb all of the information within. :) It's as if they took a 1000 page tome and compressed it into 300 pages. (The product description says 1200 pages, but it's only an inch thick, so I'm guessing 300 pp.)
A must-have for architects who strive to deliver projects in a more expert and professional manner, and wish to more effectively interface with contractors during the construction phase. If you're a pure "designer" or only involved with the front end of projects this will probably stay on the shelf, but if you're responsible for the rest of the process (DD through construction and occupancy) this book is essential.
I can't believe I made it through 6 years of architectural education without being required to own this book.

Customer Reviews:
Most is free online.......2007-03-09
A bit too basic most of this information is available free online through ACP or AAFP.
Good basic information.......2006-08-20
This is a very good source for a basic overview. It is well-organized and clear, but it is only a starting point. I didn't have a clue about where to start, so this is perfect for that.
Must Have!!!.......2006-08-13
I bought this bought and found it very informative. It is an excellent start-up tool and very easy to read and understand. After two year, I still refer back to my book.
Hard to get past the Typos.......2006-02-21
This book was amusing, informative and very easy to read. The author spends much of his time promoting himself as a Practice Manager and offers his help and his advice "by the hour". It is difficult, however, to envision the thought of paying an expert whose own book contains a minimum of 1 typographical error per page. I question the attention to detail and fiscal expertise of someone whose own publication reads like my 3rd graders book report (before editing). Typos aside, the book provided us with a baseline level of Practice Management information and offered a solid introduction to what will be a new endeavor for my husband and I.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND.......2004-07-07
This was the best $50 that I spent to get my practice started. I was an employee at a large group for 5 years, but I had no idea where to start for certain licenses and regulations. The chapter "Managing Personnel" was especially helpful. This book is concise and clearly written. It has excellent resources listed, such as helpful websites. This book would be helpful to someone just finishing residency and someone who has been an employee of a group for several years. JMMD

Complete guidelines to developing and maintaining the most effective, environment-friendly irrigation systems for golf courses
Golf Course Irrigation offers valuable insight on the design, installation, management, and maintenance of irrigation systems-the most important management tool used on today's golf courses. Without manufacturers' bias, this useful resource provides hands-on guidance to the highest quality irrigation systems, including specifications and applications of the best pump stations, controllers, sprinkler heads, nozzles, valves, sensors, and other components that make the difference in top-quality irrigation systems.
Typically regarded as significant users of water, golf courses are under increasing scrutiny by governmental and environmental groups, making it essential that the up-to-date information found here-on such topics as water supply, plant irrigation requirements, application uniformity, and construction management-be at the fingertips of every golf course professional. While fostering the best playing conditions, these systems conserve water and energy with such technology as low-pressure heads and controls that use "if/then" logic to automatically adjust to changing conditions, which can improve playability while saving money.
Golf Course Irrigation is a practical tool to help golf course architects, builders, superintendents, irrigation consultants, designers, and installers to improve aesthetics and playing conditions in the face of diminishing natural resources. It is also an informative reference for golf course owners, developers, local officials, students, and fans of the game.

What I have been waiting for!.......2003-02-06
People in my industry (golf) finally have a "Bible" to refer to when it comes to professional irrigation systems. Laid out in a basic, yet thorough format this book has it all, from good photos to useful charts and glossary. Anyone even considering installing a new system should have this book at their side. I wish I had it when our system was designed and "thrown in the ground" by a purported expert.

Book Description
Almost all the organizing books on the market today target the "left-brainer" - people who are generally disciplined, neat, and analytical. But for those who are more creative and spontaneous rather than logical and detail-oriented, help is on the way! In this book, Silber turns traditional organizing advice on its head and offers unique solutions that complement the unorthodox lifestyle of the creative "right-brainer."For example:* Discover how right-brainers can be organized in a left-brain world* Overcome obstacles that stand in the way of being more organized* Pile, don't file - put paper in its place the right-brained way* Learn how being a "pack rat" can be a good thingThis creative new approach to getting it together is perfect for those who can't relate to boring traditional organizing techniques!
Customer Reviews:
Very Helpful !.......2007-09-23
This is a really helpful book for people who are not naturally the "stack your magazines neatly on the coffee table" - type. I have been getting better at organizing over the years and now that I am homeschooling my kids I really need to lead by example. I feel the author really understands the pitfalls of traditional organizing books and sets out to give practical solutions to right-brained, creative people who don't want to be swallowed by their clutter. Buy it ! You'll be glad you did.
Being Messy Doesn't Make You a Bad Person.......2006-07-06
Most organizing books can't help implying that clutter and all-around personal messiness is a sign of moral weakness or a character defect. So no matter how well-intentioned the reader is when they start the book, they can't help feeling that there's something wrong with them for needing help organizing themselves in the first place. What's refreshing about this book is that Silber suggests the opposite--that right-brained messy people are more creative, fun and engaged than the uptight left-brained people who usually make them feel so completely inadequate. It's a relief not to be judged and found morally wanting simply for being messy.
Silber's a good-natured writer who comes up with a lot of ingenious ideas for creative people to keep their lives from going out of control; he suggests using lots of post-it notes, putting things on bulletin boards or hanging them on hooks (over the door hooks are the best, in my experience). A lot of his ideas would be great for kids--maybe he could write a book just for them. They would appreciate his sense of humor and nonjudgmental attitude.
Just Okay.......2006-02-25
This book is fairly practical. The author has to have a hook - organizing for "right brainers." It gets a little old when he is constantly putting down the left brainers for not being creative.
Best Organizing Book For Creative Types.......2005-12-19
This is a fantastic book and interesting read. You will not want to put this down. Finally someone who understands the creative mind and does not try to put a square peg into a round hole. Thank you Lee for being such a positive, upbeat, motivational author and writing real suggestions that are easy to implement in our lives! I liked this book so much I bought 3 of his other books: Time Management, Money Management and Self Promotion. This book is well worth reading and I began implementing organizational suggestions from the book into my life and it has made a huge difference! This is a fast read with creative organizational suggestions you can begin utilizing the day you start reading the book. I have read many organizational books and this is the only one I'd recommend highly!
Great book for those looking for a different perspective.......2005-12-13
I'll admit it. I've read practically every title on being more organized and all of them are now sitting on a bookshelf where they'll rest forever without a single idea being implemented. They just didn't make sense to me.
So, of course, I was skeptical when I read a review about this book in one of the many monthly creativity e-newsletters I receive each month. But being the bookhound that I am, I decided to give it a read. And I'm glad I did. Lee Silber has packed this book full of useful tips and tricks for us right-brained folks. He understands that for us, organizing has been about as much as fun as a trip to the dentist. He offers sound advice on piling (no, it's not a dirty word) and filing. He understands our propensity for procrastination and, instead of chiding us for it, offers help to make organizing and staying on top of our responsibilities fun. I'm now in an organizing zone, where I handle each piece of correspondence for my small business in a manner that's natural for me but that gets done. A very liberating feeling indeed to know that I can be myself and still be organized.
If you're a creative-type and want to be more organized in all aspects of your life, this is THE book for you.

Customer Reviews:
It is Volume Two!.......2006-07-12
I ordered this in hopes it was Volume I but knowing it was a gamble. Indeed, I was shipped volume II which deals with Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, etc. The ISBN which Amazon lists is correct for this volume, so Volume II is what you should expect in spite of a previous reviewers experience.
The book itself, though sealed in plastic was damaged. The book is spiral bound to open flat with tabbed sections. Each tab was creased and folded back into the book. One tab was unbound and loose in the book.
Content wise, I gave the book three stars. The individual chapters are necessarily short and somewhat superficial. There are numerous, helpful tables with pertinent data. But for detailed best practices I found "Wiring a House" by Rex Cauldwell and "Plumbing a House" by Peter Hemp (both from Tautons For Pros by Pros) or "Best Practices Guide to Residential Construction" by Steven Bliss (who used to be on JLC's staff) to be far superior. They have both theory and practical examples that include those really tough situations we encounter in real houses, not the simple, perfectly square, etc. fantasy situations popular on HGTV and introductory guides. The JLC Guide chapter with design information for kitchen and bath has some useful ideas, but again, I'd go with a more detailed guide. "Kitchen Idea Book" by Joanne Bouknight was especially useful in the kitchen remodel I just completed.
All in all, it's an okay guide that made me wanting more detail and back searching Amazon.
IT IS NOT VOLUME TWO ANYMORE!.......2006-06-28
I took into consideration what all the reviews said about this being volume two instead of volume one. Well, I needed volume two so I ordered it and got VOLUME ONE instead! I guess I can't win for losing. I gave three stars because even though there is some confusion on the volumes, Amazon still processed the order very quickly and I receied it in about three days.
Wrong volume!.......2006-06-15
I also ordered thinking I was getting 'volume 1' as it was not specified in the listing. Amazon definetly needs to clarify the situation in multi-volume sets.
Wrong volume.......2006-06-10
I ordered volume 1, but this is volume 2. Amazon needs to correct this situation, as it has happened to others as well. Will have to order directly from JLCbooks
Note this is volume 2, not volume 1.......2006-03-25
I ordered it thinking it was volume 1, since it doesn't say two anywhere in the description.
This volume contains HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and interiors information. A good reference for builders, designers and architects nonetheless. But start with volume 1 !
