One of the best books about the topic !.......2003-01-28
While I don't agree with every detail, I think most of the stated analyisis is true.
After reading plenty of books about German and American culture, I recommend this book as one (perhaps the) best about this issue in the market.
Even the book provided evidence about in the book mentioned cultural differences because it is much more sophicated and detailed than American books usually are.

Understanding Ethical Failures in Leadership (Cambridge Studies in Philosophy and Public Policy)
Terry Price Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0521545978 |
Book Description
Why do leaders fail ethically? In this book, Terry L. Price uses a multi-disciplinary approach to an understanding of immorality in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. He argues that leaders can know that a certain kind of behavior is generally required by morality but still be mistaken as to whether the relevant moral requirement applies to them in a particular situation and whether others are protected by this requirement. Price demonstrates how leaders make exceptions of themselves, explains how the justificatory force of leadership gives rise to such exception-making, and develops normative protocols that leaders should adopt.

Death of a Rat: Understandings and Appreciations of Science
William D. Stansfield Manufacturer: Prometheus Books ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1573928143 |
Book Description
Is science amoral? Are scientists ethical? Why is the pathway to solving important scientific problems commonly so tortuous? Can unorthodox ideas get a fair trial from the scientific establishment? How do religion and politics influence science education today? What role does serendipity play in science? What are some of the obstacles to scientific progress? How do great ideas originate? Are the people who make scientific discoveries always given the full credit they deserve? Does science history repeat itself? To what extent does fraud occur in science and why would researchers engage in it?Questions like these are not commonly raised let alone discussed in high school or college classrooms. Yet gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of science by attempting to confront these vital concerns might go a long way toward reducing popular misperceptions about science while improving science literacy among the general public, a challenge issued to all scientists by leading educators.
Geneticist and science historian William D. Stansfield presents a popular overview of the major ethical and philosophical issues confronting science today. From concern about the welfare of experimental animals to a consideration of the many kinds of impediments that slow the progress of science--religious, moral, political, and conceptual--each chapter conveys an appreciation for the work that scientists do and the obstacles that stand in their way. Stansfield considers such intriguing issues as human experimentation, fetal-cell research, animal rights, cold fusion, the influence of religion and politics on science, the role that accidental discoveries play in science, and the crucial role of honesty versus fraud in scientific research.
Debunking the popular stereotype of science as a dry, antiseptic exercise, Stansfield compellingly describes the fascinating, very human struggle for truth that makes science the most important enterprise of our time.

Ethics and Organizations: Understanding Business Ethics as a Learning Process (Issues in Business Ethics)
Josep M. Lozano Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0792364635 |
Book Description
This book is a study of the core issues in the field of business ethics from both an historical and a systematic standpoint. It analyzes corporate social responsibility, stakeholders, ethical codes, corporate cultures, and other issues. But the analysis takes place within a framework specially designed by the author in order to integrate the various dimensions of present-day business ethics. This integration is linked to an interpretation of business ethics as an organizational learning process in the context of the social and cultural changes caused by the emergence of a knowledge society. This approach makes it possible to adopt a focus and language, which can simultaneously take into account ethical concerns and corporate and organizational development. A previous version of the book (written in Catalan) was awarded the 1998 Joan Sardà Dexeus prize for best book on corporate economics by the Catalan Association of Economists.

Understanding Accounting Ethics - 2nd Edition
Mark Cheffers and Michael Pakaluk Manufacturer: Allen David Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0976528029 |
Product Description
The product of a unique collaboration between a leading forensic accountant and a distinguished expert in classical philosophy, Understanding Accounting Ethics is widely admired for its "virtue-based" approach to professionalism in accountancy. This new text, substantially expanded and revised, is well-suited to serve as the primary textbook for a course or module in ethics, or as a supplementary text to any course in accounting. New and valuable features of the second edition include: adherence to the recent IFAC four-part framework for accounting ethics education (knowledge, perception, judgment, development); fully updated discussions of Enron and WorldCom, including trials and sentencing; real-life case studies drawn from forensic practice; ample quotations from members of the Accounting Hall of Fame, emphasizing the inherently ethical nature of accounting; practical advice for "how accounting ethics can be taught" to individuals and within firms; expanded bibliographies; and helpful questions for discussion and for further research after each chapter. Understanding Accounting Ethics explores such questions as: the distinction between a business and a profession; why accounting is a profession, not a business; why accounting as a profession is inherently ethical; accountancy's essential orientation to truth; why "rules are not enough"; and how codes of professional conduct for accountants are rooted in the virtues of an accountant.
