Book Description

"What a "kick" I get out of teaching from Images of Organizations. What a head-snapping view of organizations it offers to my MBA students, as well as to the odd client/executive who is disposed to creep out of the practicality of business-as-usual and take in a vibrant thrilling view of organizations."
— Ariane David, Ph.D., Senior Advisor/President, The Veritas Group

Since its first publication over twenty years ago, Images of Organization has become a classic in the canon of management literature. The book is based on a very simple premise—that all theories of organization and management are based on implicit images or metaphors that stretch our imagination in a way that can create powerful insights, but at the risk of distortion. Gareth Morgan provides a rich and comprehensive resource for exploring the complexity of modern organizations internationally, translating leading-edge theory into leading-edge practice.

This new Updated Edition preserves Morgan’s renowned creative images and metaphors while refreshing the references and tables.  The addition of a preface situates this classic theory in today’s business environment while the instructor’s resources (now available on CD) aid classroom teaching.   Please contact SAGE customer service to order your copy.

Images of Organization challenges and reshapes how we think about organization and management in the most fundamental way. The new Updated Edition makes this monumental work available to a new generation of students and business leaders worldwide.

5 out of 5 stars Morgan Images of Organization.......2007-01-04

great metaphors from author to help understand organizational thinking but read slowly if you are a concrete thinker. Easy reading really if you think metaphorically. Had to write a paper on psychic prisons, uncanny how true Morgan's analogy is to real workplace environment. This book was better than our required text. Hated the Organizational Behavior instructor I had but loved the book and the subject matter.

5 out of 5 stars Most valuable read of my MBA.......2003-02-15

Gareth Morgan's book provides an antidote to the finance, marketing and HR texts that are required reading for an MBA student. The clever use of metaphor allows the reader to absorb the huge anount of information contained within the book (check out the bibliography!) - you don't even realise how much you are learning until you start relating concepts to others around you. My fellow students, colleagues and even my parents had to listen ...

I found it a very easy to read book, if you are willing to put aside your existing ideas (psychic prison) about the way the organisation works(?) If you prefer big words, read Morgan and Burrell's Sociological Paradigms and Organisational Analysis - essential reading, but even more brilliant as a companion to Images.

Learn the stuff you are expected to know from your finance, marketing, statistics, strategy and HR texts, but understand the stuff that will change your world from Images of Organisation.

5 out of 5 stars This book can profoundly change your thinking about orgs.......2003-02-14

This is not a "three steps to understanding organizations" type book. The people posting negative reviews for this were looking for something simple and digestable - this book is not that. However, if you take the time, you will find it profoundly alters your thinking about understanding organizations.

This book provides solid theoretical models for understanding what is occuring in organizations. I read this book over 10 years ago and STILL find it the second best and most enlightening thing I have ever read on organizations. This has dramatically aided me in being a very successful business consultant.

The foundation of this book is the notion that you cannot understand complex organizations in any meaningful way through a single perspective. People in the organizations operate on many different perspectives. Each view of the world creates its own understanding of the organizational problems, solutions and daily pattern of interaction. This book provides you the tools for understanding organizations through a number of key perspectives or metaphors, and gives you indications on how to perform a multi-perspective systems analysis.

If you spend the time with this book, you will find yourself able to understand your surroundings FAR better than your peers.

2 out of 5 stars Too esoteric...hard to follow........2003-01-08

I am a graduate student in organizational development. Although this book has some good underlying concepts, I found most of the book hard to follow and not very engaging. It was often difficult to see how many of the concepts actually apply to organizations. There may be good ideas, but they often get lost in the rambling chapters.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Find.......2001-07-28

I found this book to be insightful and very useful in administrative organization analysis. It was a useful tool in developing a change management program for a public organization.

Even those who think the idea of a "corporate soul" is an oxymoron will be persuaded by journalist David Batstone's whip-smart suggestions for how values can reinvent an organization's bad behavior. Saving the Corporate Soul alternates examples of principled companies like Clif Bar and Timberland with those of innovative leaders such as Denny's CEO Jim Adams, who recovered from a $54 million racial discrimination lawsuit to create a company hailed for its recruitment of minorities. Batstone demonstrates his core belief that "companies thrive once they align the ethics of the company with the values that drive its workers and customers." Readers worried about psychobabble can relax. The topics are nuanced and substantive; they include reputation as the guardian of a company's brand, restoring sanity to CEO compensation, operating with transparency, moving the company into the community, viewing the environment as a silent stakeholder, and defining core values for a global economy. Everyone in your organization should read this provocative and practical guide to the post-Enron era. --Barbara Mackoff

Book Description

Every day the media reports on the latest corporation guilty of financial misconduct and public deception. Insider trading, fraudulent accounting, outlandish executive pay and perks— a steady stream of scandals scars the business landscape. But the corporate crisis is as much spiritual as it is financial. More than ever, the time is ripe for Saving the Corporate Soul. In this hard-hitting, thought-provoking book, David Batstone shows that a corporation has the potential to act with soul when it aligns its missions with the values of its workers and puts its resources at the service of the people it employs and the public it serves. He offers companies and their employees eight sound principles for "doing the right thing" and— citing examples from firms like Timberland, General Motors, Clif Bar, and BP— offers evidence that principled companies will excel financially over the long haul.

5 out of 5 stars Simple rules for building a good reputation and foundation of values...........2007-05-10

This book provides excellent examples and guidelines to putting the respected values back into corporations. I especially enjoyed the chapters on valuing the worker, transparency and integrity and customer care. I have seen how these, when in place, really explode the popularity and the growth of corporations, and when management deviates from the values for the short term buck, then corporations are then exposed in the media and start to fail (and people even cheer for their downfall). This is a great follow up to "The Naked Corporation" book, and both state that some sort of plan of transparency should be in place.

4 out of 5 stars My question: will anyone act accordingly after reading this?.......2004-09-09

I say this book is worth reading, after watching The Corporation (the documentary).

You can read many books on "corporate responsability", ethics, and caring for the environment. But, when pressed for profits, in real life, when your job is on the line, would anyone "do the right thing"?.

Don't get me wrong... I praise the author for writing books like this one. And more like it are needed. But the question should be: aren't corporations, often almost-run by stockholders (with CEOs always on the line and on the brink of getting a kick by angry shareholders) and also the executives heavily influenced by wall street gurus, are all of them capable of "corporate responsability" and a long-term strategy?. I'd say no.

I think that companies that "sell out" to the stock market lose their soul, and become tools for a few speculators to "make a quick buck". A stable, responsible company then starts sailing at the mercy of a few stock market gurus and the volatility of the international stock markets. But of course, that is my personal opinion.

The Canadian documentary titled "The Corporation" (can't wait to see it on DVD - for the moment check out www.thecorporation.tv ), argues that Corporations as we know them today, and specially mutinational ones, are flawed by design.

The movie surprisingly got a great review on financial publication The Economist, which praised it:. It begins with a potted history of the company's legal form in America, noting the key 19th-century legal innovation that led to treating companies as persons under law. By bestowing on them the rights and protections that people enjoy, this legal innovation gave the company the freedom to flourish. So if the corporation is a person, ask the film's three Canadian co-creators, what sort of person is it?"

"The answer, elicited over two-and-a-half hours of interviews with right-wing captains of industry, economists, psychologists and philosophers, and left-wing intellectuals, is that the corporation is a psychopath. Like all psychopaths, the firm is singularly self-interested: its purpose is to create wealth for its shareholders. And, like all psychopaths, the firm is irresponsible, because it puts others at risk to satisfy its profit-maximising goal, harming employees and customers, and damaging the environment".

I repeat: try to read this book, and then watch The Corporation (the documentary), which shows the opinion of real execs, in real life. Both essays will make you think, probably getting in the way of your good night's sleep.

3 out of 5 stars Picked low fruit missed the Agribusiness.......2003-05-29

This book is written very well and is pretty straightforward. So straight forward you can get most of the concepts of the book by reading the table of contents. There can't be much to argue with in the book because virtually every corporate hack who raked in the money during the obscene years is now preaching the same messages of corporate redemption. Expense stock options, treat employees fairly, create an environmental scorecard.... wake me up when it is over. In short, there is nothing new in these pages but the way it is recapped is very sweet primer on the subject. But my question is why did Batstone stop where he did? Where are the chapters relating to the ethics of afdvertising and PR? The ethics of obscene campaign contributions and political lobbying efforts? Where are the chapters about companies holding communities hostage by leveraging the threat of relocation for sweet tax deals? The chapters about what truly sustainable business practices mean about the globalization of companies?
Batstone does a nice job on the content he handles but fails miserably in addressing the core problems at the heart and soul of corporations today.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and Essential Advice.......2003-05-15

David Batstone's excellent book on corporate integrity is a must-read for executives and managers who want ideas on how to create profitable but soulful businesses that show heart as well as logic. This is not a text that preaches from the pulpit or revels in moral condemnation of Enron's misdeeds. For those of us who are sick to the teeth of reading Enron/Anderson post-mortems, Batstone's book will come as a refreshing change.

Reputation building has always been a profitable way to grow a business. `Reputation is not the same thing as a brand' Batstone says. Instead he says, `Reputation is the perceived character a company holds to public eye', which is probably the best definition this reviewer has read. Using the eight principles outlined in the book, managers are guided through examples that have helped or hindered individual companies. IKEA vs Home Depot for example is cited in the Community section of the book - the underlying principle being `A company will think of itself as part of a community as well as a market'. Which one would you rather have open a store in your community, and why? For the record, the residents of Mountain View, CA (a pretty town near to Silicon Valley) said they'd prefer an IKEA, and not because they like modular Swedish furniture.

The eight principles outlined in the book are:

Principle One: The directors and executives of a company will align their personal interests with the fate of stakeholders and act in a responsible way to ensure the vitality of the enterprise.

Principle Two: A company's business operations will be transparent to shareholder, employees and the public and its executives will stand by the integrity of their decisions.

Principle Three: A company will think of itself as part of a community as well as a market.

Principle Four: A company will represent its products honestly to customers and honor their dignity up to and beyond a transaction.

Principle Five: The worker will be treated as a valuable team member, not just a hired hand.

Principle Six: The environment will be treated as a silent stakeholder, a party to which the company is wholly accountable.

Principle Seven: A company will strive for balance, diversity and equality in its relationships with workers, customers and suppliers.

Principle Eight: A company will pursue international trade and production based on respect for the rights of workers and citizens of trade partner nations.

If you are looking for one book to share with others in your organization to start a discussion on integrity and reputation, Saving the Corporate Soul should be it.

5 out of 5 stars The Book for our Times.......2003-04-29

Batstone shows by numerous examples, compelling stories, and shrewd analysis, that running a business with integrity and values intact is indeed "good business". This refreshing book provides welcome reading in a time dominated by corporate scandals and public cynicism. I recommend this book to EVERYONE!!

Book Description

Ethics and Organizations provides a rich and valuable overview of an increasingly important issue for management and organizations in contemporary society. Debates about equal opportunities, environmental responsibility, consumer redress, and corporate governance have given ethics a prominent place in the study of organizations in their social and natural environments. Within the organization, new management styles that seek to energize employees by manipulating their beliefs have highlighted the moral-ethical principles at issue in contemporary management. At the same time, debates around postmodernism and relativism have moved ethics to a new centrality in contemporary social theory. This volume addresses the questions that these and other developments raise for the study of management and organizations, from a multidisciplinary perspective. Ethics and Organizations will be invaluable to advanced-level students and academics engaged in analyzing the moral, political, and ethical dimensions of organization theory and organizational practice.

Book Description

"An impressive collection. Roderick M. Kramer and Tom R. Tyler have brought together a set of forefront studies that illuminate the causes and consequences of trusting behavior. This book will help shape the agenda for many years." --Mayer N. Zald, Department of Sociology, University of Michigan "Trust is like bone in an organization--undergirding, supporting, and enabling flesh and blood growth and function. This volume does a remarkable job of illustrating how healthy (versus unhealthy) trust systems develop and of tracing the profound consequences. It represents an invaluable resource for professionals interested in the dynamics of organizational effectiveness." --Robert B. Cialdini, Regents Professor of Psychology, Arizona State University "Roderick Kramer and Tom Tyler have produced an authoritative and stimulating collection of essays that raise the critical questions about trust. In the process, they challenge rational choice and social science generally to develop better models of negotiation and decisionmaking. Trust in Organizations goes a long way towards providing the foundations for such theorizing." --Margaret Levi, Department of Political Science, University of Washington Organizational theorists have long recognized the central role that trust plays in organizational life. They have noted that trust facilitates exchanges among individuals, enhances cooperation and coordination, and contributes to more effective social and organizational relationships. Researchers agree that there is a need for a better understanding of trust in organizations. Trust in Organizations is an essential guide that will provide students and professionals in organization studies, management, and public administration with a wealth of knowledge concerning the importance of trust. Editors Roderick M. Kramer and Tom R. Tyler have assembled a cross-disciplinary group of scholars--from social psychology, behavioral economics, sociology, and organizational theory--to bring together some of the newest and most exciting conceptual perspectives in this field. These contributions also reflect a variety of new methodological approaches to the study of trust. This volume's broad coverage includes discussion of the psychological and social antecedents of trust, the effects of social and organizational structures on trust, and the broad effects of trust on organizational functioning.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Four-Point Model for Transformational Leadership.......2000-10-10

The authors of this book provide an easy to implement model of transformational leadership based on four points, which they call the four I's. The focus of their full-range leadership model is a long-term transformational change, as opposed to short-term transactional models. The author's model reflects the importance of leadership and vision in creating organizational "buy-in," driving competitive change, and creating self-sustaining organizations through the growth of like-minded leaders.

I found this book to be well-written and easy to read. The authors apply the model to a wide-range of organizational situations. The only limitation to this book that I found, was a question that I posed to the model, which questions the validity of the model if the culture does nor support the leadership and vision. I suppose though, that the authors would counter argue that if the culture did not support the leadership and vision, that the basis of their model, the four I's were not being implmented properly.

Book Description

What is a committed employee? Are employees who are committed better or worse off than employees who are uncommitted? What are the organizational advantages and disadvantages of having a committed workforce? Commitment in the Workplace provides an overview of academic and popular perspectives on what committed employees look like and how they become committed. The multiple faces of commitment are examined as are the links that have been established between the various forms of commitment and organizational behavior. In addition, questions concerning individual differences, organizational characteristics, and work experiences associated with commitment are explored. The book concludes with a discussion of what organizations can do to manage commitment effectively, including commitment under more difficult circumstances, such as merger/acquisition, downsizing, and relocation. One of the great strengths of the book is that it summarizes the key organizational commitment research in such a way that the research findings can be evaluated for both their scientific merit and their practical value. The primary audience for Commitment in the Workplace includes students in MBA and executive MBA programs, researchers, and students and practitioners in the fields of organizational behavior and industrial psychology.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A résumé of more than 10 years of research........2000-12-23

For newcomers in the field, this is probably the best book available.

5 out of 5 stars Clear, Straightforward........1999-11-25

This is the best book about commitment in the workplace so far as I am concerned. Readers may find the style of writing, contents and structure so clear and straightforward.

If you STILL recognise employees' commitment to their organisation is composed of only one dimension based upon "affection" or "identification", probably you're wrong. And if you find your coworkers and supervisors may seem committed to the organisation, their behaviours lead to various results, not simply determined as a good citizen's.

This book will give you a key to solve what we think about "complexed" commitment. Essential for MBA students, researchers and HR managers. Good work, in a word.

5 out of 5 stars A Complete book about organizational commitment........1998-03-19

The book is a complete review and application of the Meyer e Allen three component conceptual model of organizational commitment. An indispensable book for organizational commitment research.

    Praise for the Second Edition

“An excellent collection of papers giving a timely overview of the field”
    —Gareth Morgan

“In this substantially updated, revised and extended edition of the widely acclaimed Handbook, the high standard of the contributions is maintained. Close consideration is given to newly emergent, such as networks and complexity, as well as more established topics. Metaphors of conversation and discourse are engagingly invoked to make and explore new distinctions, directions and connections. It is a key reference volume for more advanced students of this rapidly developing field”
—Hugh Willmott , Diageo Professor of Management Studies, Judge Business School, University of Cambridge

“Giving the authors of the Handbook of Organization Studies the opportunity to revise and update their earlier contributions makes this Handbook unique. Comparing the revised chapters to their originals offers the reader unparalleled insight into how knowledge develops in our discipline. New frameworks and deeper understandings, grounded in continuing scholarship, abound in this updated classic”
—Mary Jo Hatch, C. Coleman McGehee Eminent Scholars Research Professor of Banking and Commerce McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia

Even if you fervently disagree with the party bias they tout proudly and often, you probably concur that Democratic political consultants Paul Begala and James Carville know what it takes to craft a winning strategy. In Buck Up, Suck Up... and Come Back When You Foul Up, the two lay out 12 of the rules they developed while separately and jointly masterminding some of the hottest political races in recent years. And with entertaining and enlightening behind-the-scenes anecdotes drawn from both effective and futile experiences along the campaign trail--most notably their work with Bill Clinton during his two presidential terms--Begala and Carville present a practical course that can be followed in business as well as politics. "If the audience you're trying to reach is smaller than the one hundred million voters we spend our time trying to reach," they write, "we believe these lessons are even more important because your target audience is even more sophisticated, even more interested, even more up-to-the-minute."

At first glance, some rules appear blatantly obvious ("Don't Quit," "Turn Weakness into Strength") and some intentionally controversial ("Kiss Ass," "Know How to Recover When You Really Screw Up"). But, in their explanations, the relevancy and potential application of each consistently comes through. For example, in "Frame the Debate," they note how Ronald Reagan controlled the agenda in his 1980 challenge to Jimmy Carter through early attacks on the incumbent's most unpopular policies--showing precisely why "military strategists know that most battles are won ... by the side that determines where, when and how an engagement is fought." Likewise, in "Know How to Communicate," they bring five tips (tell a story, be brief, be emotional, be unique, be relevant) to life by explaining how their use aided campaigns for Hillary Clinton, Tony Blair, and others. The result, while perhaps too profane for some and definitely not Republican-friendly despite its grudging acknowledgment of a few masterful GOP performances, is nonetheless uniformly readable and genuinely practical. --Howard Rothman

    Book Description

The political strategists who directed the Clinton campaign's War Room reveal the lessons and secrets from their hard-fought battles -- and how to use these highly effective strategies for success in business and everyday life.

James Carville and Paul Begala have waged political war all across America and on three continents. They've won some of the most spectacular political victories of the twentieth century and lost a few campaigns too. Along the way, they've learned a few lessons. Some sound simple, like "Never Quit," some comic, like "Kiss Ass," and some are more complicated and nuanced, like "Strategy Ain't Tactics." But each lesson contains tried-and-true wisdom, illustrated with colorful stories from long political experience:

    • Find out how Carville's mother used a bass boat to "frame the debate" in

    selling encyclopedias.

    • Learn the War Room tricks for sharpening your message and delivering the perfect sound bite.

    • Discover what success secret Hillary Rodham Clinton and Tom DeLay share.

    • And much more.

Whether you are a senior executive or a secretary, a political junkie or the president of the United States, the rules to live by can be found in Buck Up, Suck Up...and Come Back When You Foul Up.

2 out of 5 stars Left a bad impression .......2007-06-29

It has been quite some time since I read this book and my review may not be fair since I have lost respect for Carville due to his poor speech at the Speaker Series. Yet, my impression now is that the book was simplistic with few insights. Except for a reinforcement of common sense there is little need to read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Marketing for Marvels and Mavens.......2006-11-04

This is a must read for anyone who fancies themselves as a marketer. Common sense-based practicalities prevail in this quick, sharp and witty read.

There is just too much mediocrity masquerading as best practices. Here are two masters of communication who cut to the quick and leave an indelible impression.

Like a great caramel, this is a sticky, rich experience.

4 out of 5 stars Reviews by Nan Kilar and Bobby Miller.......2006-04-13

This is a book by authors who put reality before party. Still, I don't know who Carville thinks he's fooling when he describes George W. Bush as a buffoon; he knows better. Bush is playing a part that was scripted by some of the best scriptwriters in the business. And he's giving an academy award performance.

These two authors are right about one thing for sure. The Moral Majority elected and re-elected a man who epitomizes the word Christian. With the blood of thousands on his hands, the missaporation of billions of tax dollars and a tongue that has told one needless lie after another, George W. Bush arrogantly parades around apparently proud of the fact that he has become the second most hated man to live in the last two hundred years. He appears unconcerned about tossing away a unique opportunity to represent America at her best instead of at her very worse. I cannot hate Bush for pitying him.

1 out of 5 stars Yawn! More of the same dribble........2006-01-21

You'd think these guys would run out of ignorant statements and wildly inaacurate predictions. Not these two.

With a combined I.Q. equal to that of an orange dish rag, Begala and Carville offer nothing new, nothing interesting, and nothing compelling. Neither have for years.

If it were not for the accidental presidency of a piece of white trash named Willie Clinton, both of these guys would be flipping burgers.

5 out of 5 stars I really liked this book, certain chapters especially........2006-01-19

My wife gave this to me for Christmas. I loved it! It's not perfect, but some of the chapters are gems: strategy vs. tactics, how to communicate, and frame the debate. Those chapters alone are worth the price of admission! They're not very precise or technical, but that's the beauty of this book. They've honed it down to the simplicty on the OTHER side of complexity. That takes genius. It also helps that my politics happen to line up nicely with theirs.

    Book Description

Finalist for the George Terry Award sponsored by the Academy of Management "This lovely and important book is the clearest, most complete, and interesting statement of sensemaking in organizations available. . . . It will have an impact on both new and experienced scholars." --Bob Sutton, Stanford University "Weick is artful. He masterfully constructs the sensemaking theoretical framework so that it can be better understood by the general scholar and in the process provides the reader with the sensemaking experience." --Kathleen Sutcliffe, University of Minnesota The teaching of organization theory and the conduct of organizational research have been dominated by a focus on decision making and the conception of strategic rationality. The rational model, however, ignores the inherent complexity and ambiguity of real-world organizations and their environments. Karl E. Weick's new landmark volume, Sensemaking in Organizations, highlights how the "sensemaking" process--the creation of reality as an ongoing accomplishment that takes form when people make retrospective sense of the situations in which they find themselves--shapes organizational structure and behavior. Some of the topics Weick thoroughly covers are the concept, uniqueness, historical roots, varieties and occasions, general properties, and the future of sensemaking research and practice. Expertly written, Sensemaking in Organizations is the volume that students, scholars, and professors of organization and management studies must have.

3 out of 5 stars Sensemaking fails to translate theory into practice.......2001-06-25

Weick's book is thoroughly researched, drawing its insights from psychological and organisational studies.

It offers new views on how organisations operate, and how they generate meaning. It points out that reality is not something outside the organisation, but something that is constructed by people within the organisation - an empowering insight. Weick also extensively discusses where and how this 'making of sense' happens.

But the book fails largely in linking this theory to practice. After making sense of 'Sensemaking', (which requires some mental acrobatics!), I still don't know how a leader can influence the sensemaking process to the benefit of the organisation. I'm still left with the basic question: So what?

5 out of 5 stars Powerful insight into how people work together.......1997-08-20

This book has a very academic tone but it has some powerful implications for anyone in business. The book makes a number of points that are not intuitive but that are very powerful. For example, he talks about the advantages of speed, confidence, and plausibility in problem solving and why they may be more important than accuracy

    Book Description

For nearly a quarter of a century, Corporate and Governmental Deviance has offered students the most comprehensive examination of the deviant behavior of big business and big government in contemporary society. Now in its sixth edition, this popular and well-respected collection has been thoroughly updated. It features an expanded and insightful introductory essay by the editors that illustrates the issues discussed in the text and establishes a clear framework for the sections that follow. New selections focus on college sports' crippling effect on undergraduate education; the ordinary obedience of a South African police officer and apartheid torturer; and the Los Angeles police department Rampart Division scandal. Also included is new scholarship on the Ford Motor Company Pinto episode and the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. This new edition reprints classic works from the scholars who first established and explored corporate and governmental deviance, featuring essays by Edward Alsworth Ross, Edwin H. Sutherland, Marshall B. Clinard, Peter C. Yeager, and James S. Coleman. It also retains selections that have captured the attention and imagination of readers of previous editions, exposing students to the very best classic and contemporary material on corporate and governmental deviance. Offering a complete description and careful analysis of the deviant actions of business organizations and governmental agencies, Corporate and Governmental Deviance, 6/e, is intended for courses in sociology, criminal justice, white-collar crime, and business, as well as for courses that focus on social problems, organizations, deviance, and government. It continues to set the standard by which other books on corporate and governmental deviance are judged, providing students with an even more complete, richly detailed appreciation of how and why organizations, not just individuals, commit acts of deviance.

I had only bought this book for a course in university but we only had to do the first five chapters. I had to go on with it though. The cases are all extremely well written and did an amazing job of showing me how insane the corporate world can be. It's a great book if you're looking for something to change your perspectives on the ethics of todays business society and the major differences between "white collar" and traditional crimes.
