Financial Health.......2004-10-12
Are you starting to feel helpless as your bills pile up and your accumulated debts gain momentum, like a snowboarder blazing downhill after hitting the first straightaway? If so, this book will outline the steps you need to take to gain control over your bills, avoid triggering an avalanche of debt, and even have a surplus each month. ~Larry Burkett
While bills continue to arrive on schedule, Larry Burkett says there are many bills which may be unnecessary. What is necessary and what is not? In this guide you can take an honest look at your present spending habits and develop a plan of action to not only get out of debt, but to start saving for vacations or other purchases.
Larry makes some great points about credit and how buying items on credit can increase their cost substantially. Suddenly, that couch on sale may not seem like such a bargain when you realize you will be paying double the price.
So, how do you get control of your money? Larry Burkett gives practical tips for recording expenses and once you have recorded the necessary items like rent, food and utilities, you can start to find out how much you are spending on entertainment and decide what is really essential.
It may take you a year or more to get out of debt, but once you have less bills, you can increase your savings. This book is an invaluable tool for anyone who is leaving home and starting their journey into the independent life. The last thing you want to do is become chained to debt. This book encourages an understanding of basic expenses and shows you how to save money by clipping coupons. I find that those preferred savings cards at grocery stores and rewards cards can save me twenty dollars at a time. You could literally leave a store with your weekly groceries and have saved forty dollars if you can find the right coupons and maximize savings with membership cards. I gave up on brand loyalty a long time ago and this book also shows how brand merchandise sits at eye level. I've never found a quality difference in canned goods, so why spend the extra money?
Additional Helpful Sections Include:
Starting an Emergency Fund
Car Repairs
Insurance
Charitable Giving
Retirement
Buying a New Home
Larry Burkett warns against "buy-now-pay-later" plans and his book is perfect to read when you are just starting to learn about budgets or want to update your saving strategies.

A great book to jump start your budget..........1999-10-22
I was discouraged and ready to throw in the towel on the familly budget. After reading this quick little book I gained a new vitality to get my finances back in order...Thanks for your wisdom Larry...
One review does not a rating a make.......1999-03-02
C'mon Amazon. Let's be rational about reviews. Does one review from one individual constitute a review? I think not. Let's not blow the opportunity for others like myself that have no clue as to how to start budgeting or how to get control of finances. This book is written in a Chritian context from a Christian Author. It places the focus of stewardship/finances where they belongs. A book this small reads to the large part of the problem: If one does not have a budget by now, chances are they don't want to get bogged down in pages. This is a great place to start and an insight regarding the real source of all that we have! Let's make the rating on this book "not rated" until we hear from more readers.
This book should be titled a guide for Christian finances........1999-01-07
At the back of the book, you will find 6 charts for budgeting (all related) that are of minimal use.The remainder of the book is strong on Chrisitian preaching and bible quoting! I wasn't looking for a lecture on how a Christian family should budget, tithe or keep their family close---I was looking for a meaty and helpful budget guide.I found nothing I didn't already know from general budgeting information except that my checkbook was down a little! If you have strong Christian beliefs this may be for you, but if you want a simple no-bull guide for budgeting---save your money and pass this one by.

Packed with Good Advice.......2007-03-22
Author Taffy Wilkins Wagner shares her story of debt, dilemma and overcoming it all. From her humble beginnings to her military career, then to her life as a civilian, Taffy tells all when it comes to her financial woes and experiences. Can you learn from her mistakes? Probably!
Career choices have a lot to do with debt or sucess and Taffy willingly shares what she learned on that front. Marriage can be a stepping stone to debt or it can be a partnership in being financially sound. It all comes down to the choices you make as a couple. Taffy outlines the steps she and her husband took to be debt free.
Through all of their ups and downs Taffy and her husband kept their faith. This side of the book lends itself well to Christians and is an inspirational tale.
Included in the book are sample budgets for families of two and four, that suggest that readers can get out of debt if they follow them.
This little book is packed with good advice, helpful suggestions and lists of credit guidance.

Title: Debt Dilemma
Author: Taffy Wilkins Wagner
Money management is a difficult task at the best of times, but in our fast paced modern society where everyone wants all the luxuries, it is more difficult than it has ever been. Taffy Wilkins Wagner experienced a severe setback because of lack of knowledge in handling financial affairs. Shortly after leaving her basic training in the military she began to get off track and the long journey back was both painful and rewarding but above all, a learning experience.
She has taken it upon herself to share her story in this well written, very interesting book with hopes of helping others. Taffy Wilkins Wagner is now an ordained minister and has set her life on a path to help others reach wholeness.
Her excellent advice will help young and old, those just starting out and those who may have made mistakes. At the end her book, she includes several appendices that include sample budgets, internet resources, Scriptures to use for your finances and sample letters to credit agencies for various requests. This book is jammed with important information and should be found in every home.
Highly Recommended Reviewer: Elaine Fuhr, Allbooks Reviews
Don't bother..........2006-05-28
Since when does an author review her own book?!? Whether on Amazon or anywhere else, it's cheap, unprofessional, and unethical. Not only that, Ms. Wagner downplays another author AND plugs her book in the review!!! (See "Financial Peace Revisited", by Dave Ramsey)
What other lengths do you go to in plugging your own work? Regardless of how well the book is or isn't written, this author is not someone I would ever trust. The book gets one star; the author gets zero.
The Debt Trap.......2005-12-31
DEBT DILEMMA is a personal testimony as to how the author improved her debt situation by careful analysis, deliberate execution and constant prayer. By first acknowledging there was a problem and making a conscience decision to spur a change in their financial situation, Ms. Wagner and her husband adopted a new approach to money management. The book plants seeds of financial wisdom that if followed up on, one can also improve their debt position as well.
Written in a conversational tone, the author offers a candid glimpse into an area of her life to help be a blessing to others. While this book does not plunge into the depths of being debt free, it does offer some stepping stones to help achieve that goal. Also, an added bonus is the resource information included in the appendix for further reference.
