Investing Online for Dummies, 5th edition.......2007-01-10
The delivery was on time. The book is good for me
You don't have to buy this. .......2007-01-03
I came here to write a review for this book, and found that a reviewer below, "A reader", had already written what I was going to write. This book provides a reader with no information, but with long lists of websites to look at. You can access those websites most often just wasting time (like "A reader" already said). Using search engines like Google/Yahoo is much better than thumbing through this book.
Good Concise Overview to Get One Started.......2005-05-15
You can't watch television these days without getting bombarded with ads for on line brokerage companies. What's been missing has been a centralized source for information about the whole thing. This book provides that source. It's not complete - if it were it would be so big that you couldn't carry it around - but it's a great start.
You can read this book from cover to cover in just a few hours. That is, just a few hours if you don't take the time to go out on the web looking at the things she suggests. And that right there is the key to this book. Here is a good start that covers the whole field from A to Z, and at nearly each and every point along the way she points you to web sites for more information about specific points.
The problem with going to the web for more information, of course, is that web sites appear, go away, merge or whatever. She admits this, but accepts this risk and gives you multiple sites (you couldn't possibly visit all that she mentions) or suggests ways to find a missing or dead site.
This is a great way to get the basic information you need before getting started with selecting a broker and deciding what to buy.
Get Up To Speed With New Strategies, Tools and Resources.......2005-04-07
This newest edition of "Investing Online for Dummies" reflects the latest changes and improvements to online investing Web sites. Addresses building an online information system, setting up a basic investment strategy, determining how much to invest, selecting an online broker and trading online, finding the right investments, performing Internet transactions securely, saving on commissions, managing a portfolio, and much more.
A great guide for online investing .......2005-03-22
As I surf the Web, I often feel that it's like visiting a library where all the books have been spilled on the floor. The information is there but I don't know where to begin my search. "Investing Online For Dummies" explained how to get started, steered me to free or low cost online services, pointed out the important parts of Web sites, and showed me the process of online investing.

Helpful and well written.......2007-09-15
Interesting overview on the topic. As the subtitle suggests this book talks about "turning web sites, blogs, and podcasts into cash". The book is not hard to read, it's language is very friendly and easy to understand, while it's ideas are very mature. The author, it is evident, is very wise on the topic and shares his experience with the readers. There are no fluff or extra talk. Just useful material, ideas, web links, books, web sites, and suggestions based on many years of experience as a content provider.
I took this book from a library, but now I'm considering buying it, so much I liked it!
Highly recommended.
Great beginner's book.......2007-01-06
This book is for blog beginners. It is just specific enough to get started. If that is the kind of primer you are looking for, jump on it fast! If you are already passed stage 1, it might be helpful, but you might find it not advanced enough.
A bible for small businesses.......2007-01-03
JD Frazer uses his humor to great effect in this easy to read guide to how to set up a small web-based business. It is worth the cover price just for the resources that he points the reader towards. A bible for the early part of the 21st century!
Dennis Charles
Not as good, Not recommended.......2006-11-24
This book is really compact and author tried to put just too much stuff in there, and seem like he tries to touch little bit of every subjects. And he wrote too much of his personal history instead of facts.
For Newcomers, Not Experienced Bloggers.......2006-11-10
Treats numerous topics in blogging, such as RSS, monetizing with ads, and promoting the blog, with a short, informative overview. The sections are brief, no in-depth coverage of topics. A good start for someone thinking of blogging professionally, or just beginning and needing to learn the ropes quickly. Those with more experience and knowledge will find it shallow.

Good book, useful tools, beginner thru expert.......2007-07-26
I've been trading for over twenty years, including a period as a floor trader on the Chicago Board of Trade. Even with that experience there are tips and tricks in this book I found useful to the point where I employ them daily. To be complete as a reviewer I will say there is a lot of pretty basic stuff from my point of view, but still well worth reviewing since some of it I had forgotten.
Well written, easy reading, well organized
This book can pay for itself very quickly..........2004-11-21
Online Investing Hacks by Bonnie Biafore (O'Reilly) is one of those books that can pay for itself in short order, as well as over and over.
Chapter list: Screening Investments; Hacking Excel for Financial Analysis; Collecting Financial Data; Analyzing Company Fundamentals; Technical Analysis; Executing Trades; Investing in Mutual Funds; Managing Your Portfolio; Financial Planning; Index
I worked at Enron from 1998 through 2001, and spent plenty of time during that dot.com era following my stock portfolio. I watched my Enron stock value go from incredible value to a point where it cost more to sell the stock than it was worth. I won a few bets (face it, that's what they were) on a few dot.coms and lost many more. What could have been an incredible nest egg, isn't. This book would have been a lifesaver if I had read and paid attention to it a few years ago. Biafore shows you how you can analyze and invest wisely using a variety of tools available to everyone.
If you're an Excel user, you'll find it an invaluable tool for analysis. She'll show you how you can use it to create financial charts (#13), calculate compound annual rates of growth (#26), and use rational values to buy and sell wisely (#36). #39 - Spot Hanky Panky with Cash Flow Analysis (using Enron as an example) would have literally saved me hundreds of thousands of dollars had I known about it. Even if you don't care about the investing tips, the hack on downloading data via Excel web queries (#7) was something I didn't know how to do (or that you could even do it!). The book has a little something for everyone.
As with all Hacks titles, you probably won't be interested in every single item. Some may not be applicable to your situation or may be too complex for what you care to handle. But all it would take is one hack to work out and change your investing for this book to pay huge dividends. If you do your own investing, you owe it to yourself to get this book.
Excellent Reference/Resource.......2004-11-07
Online Investing Hacks is an excellent introduction to the world of investment. Though the title does contain the word 'Online', I would say that the general information the book provides on investing is not limited to the online realm.
Overall, I was very happy with the book, and found it incredibly useful. Though I do have several investments (401K, some stock, mutual funds etc) I would hardly consider myself an authority on the subject. This book provided very detailed explanations and tips on various forms of investment, from CD's to Index funds, and everything in between. While the experienced investor might not glean much from reading this book, anyone just getting started will find it an excellent reference, and resource.
The format of the book is similar to the other books in the 100 * Hacks series published by O'Reilly. There are exactly 100 hacks, or topics, which are spread across 9 chapters. Each one is an individual entity and can be read and understood without reliance on any of the other hacks.
One minor annoyance I had with the book is that it is geared toward those of you who, for some reason or another, run Microsoft's Windows OS, or have access to Microsoft Excel. Luckily, of the Excel examples that I played with, Open Office's Calc program handled them with minimal tweaking.
I can easily recommend this book to anyone who wants to invest, but is unsure of what to invest in, or needs some tips on making the most of preexisting investments. Those of you who enjoy research and building your own stats and graphs will also find parts of this book rather intriguing, as it covers data acquisition and manipulation with Excel in great detail. It will make an excellent addition to my reference shelf, and I have a feeling it will be well thumbed through in a very short time.
Excellent resource for all investors.......2004-10-04
It seems like everyone is involved in investing in some form or another. While I always felt like I should be investing too, it was never clear to me how to begin this process. After all, it's my money. How can I be sure I'm investing in something that will provide some sort of reasonable return? This book is an excellent resource in answering some of those questions and putting the new investor on the right track.
This book is written in the same format as the other "hacks" series by O'Reilly. This format is very easy to read, and the format makes it very easy to find answers. Rather then having to read the book from cover to cover, the reader can pick out topics they are dealing with, read the answer, and move on. Since many of the people interesting in a book of this nature will likely have little time, the book's format works to its advantage.
The book begins with some basic introduction to the stock market and tips for selecting appropriate stocks or mutual funds. The whole middle section of the book deals with data analysis. The author discusses how to understand a company's balance sheet (e.g. what that P/E ratio means), how to spot companies in financial trouble, how to pick a good stock, and even how to trade. There is also a good discussion on minimizing the effect of taxes on your little return on investment.
The author even goes further and gets into a discussion on financial planning. In addition to discussing debt reduction, the author also talks about IRA plans and different strategies for saving for your child's education expenses. I think my favorite part of this book was the discussion on different education savings plans. The author discusses the ins and outs (as well as tax consequences) of each of the plans, and provides some examples illustrating the fact that it's better to start saving earlier than later.
This is an excellent book, not just for its investing advice, but also for its sound financial planning. This is a great book for anyone who is interested in increasing their wealth, saving for a rainy day, or simply saving for future financial goals.
Among the most useful books on investing I've seen..........2004-09-19
This is one of the most useful books on investing that I've seen.
The excellent chapter on fundamental analysis alone is worth the price of admission. Plus there are chapters on technical analysis, mutual funds, asset allocation, financial planning, investing in bonds etc, all equally well written.
Hope the author writes a sequel to this book covering topics not covered here (eg. topics related to options trading).
A required title in any serious investor's bookshelf.

Everyone's looking for a special-purpose guru of some stripe or other, and Jon Markman is one of the better ones when it comes to researching investments that suit your personality and goals. Markman is known for his MSN investing column, and Online Investing is a more formal record of his ideas about investment selection, and a collection of his favorite Internet resources for investors. The result is quite good, though he more than anything else endorses careful thought and research over impulse. He also presents point and counterpoint wherever possible, leaving the decisions to readers. There are even fewer guarantees in investing than in other parts of life, but this book will help you approach the market as an informed individual investor.
Markman takes a three-pronged approach to investing. He first explains how model portfolios work, and the alternative philosophies (momentum, growth, value, and so on) on which they can be based. Second, he shows you how to assemble and track your own models. And third, he explores more explicitly some of the investor resources on the Internet. This is more than a catalog: for example, Markman comments on the characteristics and long-term performance of a number of investment newsletters. It's obvious that he does his research. --David Wall
Topics covered: Strategies for developing a personalized approach to individual investing, with emphasis on building a model portfolio (based on technical or fundamental analysis of shares) and researching potential investments with the help of online resources.
Book Description
Using one of author Jon Markman's momentum-stock models, a single $10,000 investment in 1986 would be worth $5.4 million today. That's ten times what the S&P 500 did! In ONLINE INVESTING, Second Edition, Markman builds on his innovative "year-trading" model and shares new wealth-building strategies-once again demonstrating how to use the power of the Internet and a home PC to do in minutes what Wall Street professionals do full time. The book provides updated information on growth year-trading and delivers new content on month-trading, seasonal trading patterns, where momentum comes from, and how to pick the stocks with the potential to gain 10,000% in 10 years! In the book's highly regarded first edition, this award-winning author made complex investment terminology and trading strategies accessible to even the lay investor. ONLINE INVESTING, Second Edition delivers more of Markman's expert and easy-to-read advice, complete with powerful new techniques for finding-and buying-the right stocks at the right time.
Customer Reviews:
out of date.......2006-01-28
Markman's "Online Investing" is out of date, the author writes of Available Excell spreadsheets(reason why I bought the book) at some mythical appendix site that are not currently available,(1-1-2006). Markman did not respond to emails concerning same spreadsheets! lynn
Second Rate.......2003-01-05
This guy has cost a lot of people a lot of money in the stock market. Fortunately I wasn't one of them. And yes it was their fault instead of his. But many are seduced by his methods since the implication is that winnning stocks may be selected by purely mechanical methods. The sections that deal specifically with the internet and how to find information are ok but the infomation is easily available elsewhere. The rest is not really up to par but will probably pass most people's inspection. Please just be skeptical and wise and realize that to take advantage of mechanical stock picking schemes requires a great deal of money or a fund of some kind. Statistically one may make money on the pot but buying a highly rated subset is seldom wise.
Also, using a little money to buy the pot almost always results in unacceptable transaction costs.
Proof that his systems don't work.......2002-06-30
Jon Markman's concept seems great, but in real life he (or anyone else) can't seem to get it to work.
Just read the first 2 chapters and you'll realize that this book is all about hindsight and probably would be very dangerous in a downward or sideways market.
He states that in 1998 & 1999 one of his model portfolios returned a 55% annual return from 1986-1999 with a standard deviation of 58%. The risk/reward ratio was too high so he tweaked it and now the results showed a return of 75% with a standard deviation of 72%. But in 2000 this model went down 39%. So he tweaked it again adding a NASDAQ market timing function where the NASDAQ has to be up a certian # to even decide to use the model. He keeps on tweaking a supposedly good model when something fails - which means if you've already used the model, you've probably lost money.
In his first chapter he talkes about the advantages of "model portfolios" that perform better because human emotions are not involved. Markman's mentor seems to be James P. O'Shaughnessy, as he mentions him in chapter 1 (author of "What works on Wall Street", "How to Retire Rich" and "Invest like the Best") - I have all three books. James O'Shaughnessy talkes about model portolios and backtesting scenarios that beat the S&P over 20, 30, 40 years.
Too bad "Online Investing" was written in 2001 because if this "model portfolio" thing really worked, why has Mr. O'Shaughnessy's mutual funds (which are supposed to buy stocks on successful back-tested models) performed so poorly? - Just look at any investment site to see his returns. Recently I read that he just sold his poorly performing funds to another financial firm. I guess the king of model portfolio's can't get his funds to follow his "historical performance".
One of the only nice things about "Online Investing" is that for a new investor, Markman narrows the masses of investment sites out there to a quality few. Use your own investment ideas and research them with the sites he point out. You'll probably make a lot more money
After reading the first few chapters and skimming throught the rest of the book, I realized this is a waste of time. I didn't finish the rest.
Serious Reservations with Markham's Systems.......2001-08-10
If you are considering purchasing a book to get you started in online investing, Markham's book is worth a look, but his advice should be taken with a great deal of skepticism. I have used Markham's recommendations to invest in stocks from the middle of 2000 through the middle of 2001 (when I liquidated my portfolio). Unfortunately, I cannot in good faith recommend this system for a novice investor (like myself), as I lost 65% of my beginning investment using this system exactly as specified.
There are several major problems with Markham's investment strategies for the novice investor, but most notably, there is a lack of discussion of risk and return, and an overemphasis on the use of these mechanical systems without what I consider to be proper testing. Markham only uses data that goes back 14 years (to 1986) to test this system. Why? Given the poor performance of these models over the last year, it's probably because these systems perform badly prior to 1986. I am not accusing Markham of being dishonest, but the narrow window of time over which Markham monitored the performance of these systems is suspect.
Using the Supermodel system requires the purchase of a significant stock spread, usually 10-15, to minimize risk. Most beginning investors do not have enough capital to invest in this number of stocks, and will select two or three, which substantially increases market risk. Beginning investors with less than $20,000 to invest are far better served by investing in broad index or even sector mutual funds.
I should mention two additional red flags: (1) Markham used to publish the results of Supermodel picks, but once the models started doing badly, MSN removed these results from the visible public view. They may be on the website somewhere, but I am hard pressed to say where. (2) Many of Markham's own stock picks have largely turned out to be atrocious money losers.
Caveat emptor!
Usefull only for novice investors.......2001-05-10
A lot more useful information is available on the internet free of charge. Jon Markman is a master when it comes to creating stock screens, alas they are totally useless in the real world.

Millionaire Breaks It Down.......2007-08-12
"The Internet is no longer an uncharted business frontier"... the first words I read.
The Online Millionaire is a how-to that zeroes in on this idea.
Serving up lessons on everything from eBay to building your own website author Amy Joyner backs up theory with stories from the front lines. Lacing each chapter with stories retold by online millionaires, Joyner's 101 approach (with sub-chapter headings like The Lowdown and How It Works) may not appeal to the Internet enthusiast, or anyone under the age of 16, but will be a breath of fresh air to the web-challenged. Joyner keeps it simple and paints with broad strokes . . . so for me - a member of the latter group, Millionaire helped break down the intimidating and self-imposed barriers I have towards the Internet. I couldn't build a website before reading this book and I probably won't anytime soon, but the curtain has been pulled and the mystery revealed.
A must-have reference.......2007-05-19
Don't let the word "Millionaire" scare you away from getting your hands on this book. When you are armed with the right knowledge, tools, and willpower, the possibilities are endless.
It is written by Amy Joyner. She previously wrote the book "The eBay Millionaire" and other numerous books. She also runs her own successful eBay business and has quite a history as a business and technology reporter.
If you are familiar with selling items on eBay and/or selling items from your own website, you will really enjoy the opportunities described in each chapter of this book. You'll be shown ideas of how to expand exposure for your business.
Amy presents information in an easy to follow layout and includes an Action Plan in each chapter. Topics range from auctions and other online marketplaces to the tools that are available to help you streamline your business.
You will also read two to three success stories within each section. I thoroughly enjoyed reading these and I will definitely refer to them again for inspiration. You won't feel alone when you learn how some current thriving businesses started out of necessity and with hardly any available financing. Amy does a great job relating the stories, including mine, which is the last story in the book about success with Affiliate Programs.
Think of this as a must-have reference... a road map to kick your business into high gear.

Could Use a Few Tips for Day Trading Online.......2006-06-26
This book was very good back in the "buy and hold years" of 1998-2001. It's still a good read and very enjoyable.
These days, in my opinion, a trader needs more practical and up to date strategies especially if he wants to start day trading online on a regular basis.
Stock trading is all about making buy and sell decisions. When you make a trade either your going to lose money or your going to make money, and some other times you will break even. When you win some body else will lose and so forth, but that's NOT what's important.
The most important aspect of day trading is the "know-how" strategies you employ to make your buy & sell decisions. There are many "surefire" systems outhere, but you need to test them in order to discover which ones help you the most. That's part of your homework as an online stock trader. Test, test and test again.
Complicated systems that rely on a truck load of technical analysis indicators can make you slow, and being slow in this game can be as dangerous as not knowing what to do in the first place.
I think the worst thing that can happen to a beginner trader is to get information OVERLOAD. It's better to go step by step, and test a simple trading system that can show you how to focus on concrete ways to profit day in and day out.
Fortunatly there are some good sites on the web today that can show you how to trade in a practical and effective way. One of those sites is Smart Day Trading (SmartDayTrading com)
In the end, day trading is all about buying and selling according to your knowledge FILTER. Once you master and follow youre proven filter parameters like a clock, you can expect to start making serious amounts of cash on a consistent basis.
Investing Online by Gray and Menche review by Ellen Hochman.......2001-07-14
Excellent and interesting, not stuffy at all. Easy to follow with practice lessons at the end of every chapter. Good essential information for the beginner investor, not just for online traders. Covers the "how-to's" of analyzing stocks and mutual funds to add to your portfolio put in easy to understand and fun terms. By: Ellen Hochman
Very detailed book on all aspects of online investing.......2000-05-25
This is a very detailed book which covers all aspects on online investing. Most people can skip chapter 1 which shows basic Internet browsing and navigation. The rest of the book shows web pages you can look at. I like this book because the authors highlight and explain the different parts of each of the web pages. At 400 pages, this book is short enough so that you won't get bored and long enough that the author just don't explain a concept in a sentence or a paragraph. The authors give enough detail so that you can understand and profit.
Pleased Reader.......2000-01-17
"Teach Yourself Investing Online", by Thomas S. Gray and Claire Mencke, is the ideal book for online investors, both novices and old-timers. The information is easy to understand, easy to read, and very interactive. There are sites to visit, quizzes and worksheets to fill out, and pages and pages of screenshots and sidebars and intriguing reading. This book can be used for quick reference or for straight-forward research. Very up-to-date and needed in this fast-paced Internet world, with online catalogs and stock trading sites, this book is your manual to succeed in this day in age. The book covers such subjects as stock quotes to saving for your child's college fund to shopping online. I was clueless and, frankly, frightened of the stock market and Internet investments before I peeked at these pages -- now I'm hooked, making extra money, and learning how to budget my finances. This book is for young and old investors alike, and it's easy to follow, with clear language and straight-forward visuals. It was obvious to me that these authors know what they're talking about. A must! If you think you could never make it in this busy online investing economy, you need this book! If you think you know all there is to know, you need this book! Finally, I read something I needed so much!

Whether it's the invisible chat room jockey pumping penny stocks or the silver-haired Peter Lynch hawking Fidelity Investments, finding financial advice these days is pretty easy, and for most of us the real problem is not getting advice, it's getting good advice. Which is something that Terry Savage dispenses in good measure in The Savage Truth on Money.
It's not that Savage has found a new way to get rich. She hasn't. What makes this book work is her commonsense approach to attaining financial security. At the heart of Savage's advice is the notion that getting ahead is a matter of "self-discipline," which "means making knowledgeable decisions based on a rational assessment of likely results and then sticking to your decisions in the face of emotional upheaval." Forget about sticking your head in the sand--for Savage, knowledge is power, and knowledge begins when you examine your own relationship to money. She encourages getting online as way to manage your finances, educate yourself, and seek out new opportunities. The book is filled with insights on topics such as risk management, investing in mutual funds, saving for college, and buying insurance.
Savage's experience as a financial journalist (print, television, online), stockbroker, the first woman member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange, as well as her service on the Board of Directors of McDonald's and Devon Energy Corporation brings a air of credibility that's hard to find in books of this ilk. The Savage Truth on Money is for people who think seriously about their money, no matter how smart they think they are. --Harry C. Edwards

What a pleasure it was for me to read a quality financial book written by a nationally recognized financial authority like Terry Savage. Excellent book and not just for women either.
Disregard those reviews by tax people, brokers etc........2003-10-02
I have Terry's book but also enjoy listening to quality material in my car so bought the cd as well. This is a very complete, financial education program. SHE COVERS EVERYTHING. And I found the tax information very beneficial as well.
I noticed one of the negative reviewers claiming to be a tax attorney. How can we expect this person to give a fair and credible review of this book and tape program. He is afraid of losing business!
Don't expect brokers to be anymore sympathetic either. They would rather have you buy their "Soup D'Jour" which pays them the highest commissions irregardless of whether you make money or not.
The JBQ crusaders; all I can say is compare the background and credentials of Ms. Savage and JBQ. NO CONTEST!
The Savage Truth on Money is an excellent program and I highly recommend it.
A fresh, new perspecive.......2003-09-22
Have you noticed how so many of the other financial books out there all say more or less the same thing? I bought "The Savage Truth on Money" CD and was so impressed that I went back and bought the book also.Ms. Savage has a vast background on personal finance and offers a fresh and unique approach that is backed with fact. She is a pleasure to listen to as well. Playing her CD is like having Ms. Savage in your car or office talking directly to you.Great program but only for those who are open minded.
Not just for women.......2003-09-21
I bought this book by Terry Savage along with Don't Mess with My Money by the Dolans after returning Making the Most of Your Money by Quinn.
I have to admit I felt a little strange buying this book which at first appeared to be for women, but after inspection, found this book to be outstanding and a great financial book for everyone.
Ms Savage covers everything you need to know about money from mutual funds, "chicken money", insurance and going on into retirement. Her style makes this an easy read and she is witty too.
By contrast, I bought Making the Most of Your Money by Quinn and was wholly dissappointed--returned it after one day.
Terry Savage has written an excellent book for anyone interested in truly Making the Most of their Money. In Savage's case, it is not a fancy line, but reality.
Great book Terry. I am looking forward to your next foray!
Excellent author review and book.......2003-09-20
I enjoyed this book by Terry Savage. My wife bought this book along with The Road to Wealth and The Laws of Money by Suze Orman.
In many ways, Savage pushes Orman on financial advice and savvy and is a witty writer as well. Both have credentials to write financial books, unlike other authors.
I also felt that Ms. Savage showed class in her review, thanking her fans and clearing the air o n the Microsoft issue. And at least she (Savage) writes reviews using her own name, not an alias as some other authors do.
Overall good good written by a person of quality.

Terrific! Hard to find advice in a valuable package........2007-05-05
This is a unique book that was long overdue. The tips in this book are real time-savers. Yes, someday I might have discoverd them without reading this book but then, maybe not. I'm glad I found them all in this nice package. I value my time, so I'm sure that putting even a couple of these practical ideas to work will pay for the book many times over. A lot of these tips and tricks are buried in large user guides I'm sure but I really haven't seen many useful ones, specially for advisors, all in one easy-to-read place like this before. Thanks Kip!
An extremely valuable tool.......2006-04-17
This book should be the bible for anyone who is attempting to grow a business. It is effecively designed to nurture any entrepreneur venture. It is great!
practical advice for non-profits too.......2005-06-16
This book is terrific! Easy to read and packed with concrete, practical advice. I work in the non-profit sector and half expected that "Winning Clients" would not apply to me -- but it really does. The author's tips are practical, sensible, and applicable to virtually any situation in which you need to find clients/customers or funding/sponsors. He's also great at de-mystifying the "wired world" in a way that really helps you make the most out of technology. ...Who COULDN'T benefit from learning how to "work smarter, not harder"??
GREAT IDEAS.......2005-06-10
A great book that can be picked up and read for 10 minutes, 1/2 hr, or more depending on the amount of time available. Pick the chapter from the Contents and go. I like the TIPS and the Web Links. Working more efficiently in this wired world is what its all about and this book gives you a lot of Great Ideas. The communication chapter was the best part of the book.
Knowledge Journal--Customer Relationship Management.......2005-04-24
For anyone actively involved in large account management, you will find this book very valuable--whether or not your company uses any sort of CRM type program. One key element with account management is change of personnel. With such changes, we lose institutional knowledge and have to constantly replicate this effort. Mr. Gregory provides a format to help eliminate this problem with his knowledge journal and provides, from his website, the format to download in Word.
If everyone learned how to use their pc's just a bit better everyday, performance across the board would likely increase as you would be more productive at work and "not working" on your pc. Mr. Gregory provides many examples of how to save time and become more productive in your job.
A good read for any person that deals with any sort of sales job or needs CRM or manages clients. Many useful tips, some you may already know, but lots are consolidated here in an easy to follow format.

A personal finance blog disguised as a book, but well worth the read!.......2007-10-10
This was a nice little book written by a young professional who works as a wealth manager. It's a personal finance or young person's financial planning book. I liked the way the book presented the material in clear and digestible snippets. I read a book not too long ago that was similar in format. See Blogging and Podcasting (ISBN: 1419584359). In both books the authors promote themselves through blogging. And instead of writing their books as a separate and distinct activity as compared to their blogs, they lift a lot of their content from their blogs and spruce it up a little before calling it a book.
This book has 27 chapters divided up into the following four sections:
1. First perspectives on money (chapters 1-5)
2. Building wealth requires planing (chapters 6-13)
3. Living in a financial world (chapters 14-21)
4. Think long-term about money management (chapters 22-27)
The chapters are short which is why I equate them to spruced-up blog entries. And the number of chapters is large, another reason this book has the feel of a blog rather than something that was put together originally as a book.
The book is well-written and easy to read and follow. It cites much of its content to Web sites and links that can be found online. If you want to learn about some of the things the Internet has to offer regarding personal finance and financial planning, then I highly recommend this book. If you are just wanting to familiarize yourself with personal finance and financial planning, then this would be a nice book to read, too. However, it's not a treatise on the subject. 5 stars!
Phenomenal Resource! .......2007-10-09
This book is an increadible resource for someone who is looking to increase their financial "common sense". After reading this book, I immediately contacted my financial advisor and consulted with him about some of Russell Bailyn's interesting perspectives (and I'm already seeing results!). Navigating the Financial Blogosphere is easy to read and easy to follow. It provides some great, practical tips which will help you increase your networth starting today! I highly, highly recommend it!
A Must Have! Fantastic Book & Even Better Author.......2007-10-02
Russell Bailyn's views on today's financial market are inventive and refreshing. He's wealth of knowledge really shows and eventhough it may be his first book i'm sure it won't be his last. His ideas give me a new outlook on my personal finances and how I make decisions. This book is a must have!
