Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Has history been tampered with?.......2007-10-23
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RAZQNMXM4M9CL Has history been tampered with? Yes, it has! Did events and eras such as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Roman Empire , the Dark Ages, and the Renaissance, actually occur within a very different chronology from what we've been told? Yes, they certainly did!
The history of humankind is both drastically shorter and dramatically different than generally presumed.
Why is it so? On one hand, it was usual custom to justify the claims to title and land by age and ancestry, and on the other the court historians knew only too well how to please their masters. The so called universal classic world history is a pack of intricate lies for all events prior to the 16th century. World history as we learn it today was entirely fabricated in the 16th-18th centuries. It's likely that nobody told you before, but
there is not a single piece of firm written evidence or artefact that is reliably and independently dated prior to the 11th century.
Naturally, after what you've learned in school and university, you will not easily believe that the classical history of ancient Rome, Greece, Asia, Egypt, China, Japan, India, etc., is manifestly false.
You will point accusing finger to the pyramids in Egypt, to the Coliseum in Rome and Great Wall of China etc., and claim, aren't they really ancient, thousands of years ancient? Well, there is no valid scientific proof that they are older than 1000 years!
The oldest original written document that can be reliably dated belongs to the 11th century!
New research asserts that Homo sapiens invented writing (including hieroglyphics) only 1000 years ago. Once invented, writing skills were immediately and irreversibly put to the use of ruling powers and science.
The consensual chronology we live with was essentially crafted in the 16th century by the Jesuits.
The world history was compiled from contradictory mix of innumerable copies of ancient Latin and Greek manuscripts and other irrefutable proofs delivered by late mediaeval astronomers that were cemented by the authority of writings of the Church Fathers.
Early in life, we learn about ancient history. Children love the magical lessons of history - they are like fairy tales. Teachers recite breathtaking stories; very soon We learn by heart the names and deeds of brave warriors, wise philosophers, fabulous pharaohs, cunning high priests and greedy scribes.
We learn of gigantic pyramids and sinister castles, kings and queens, dukes and barons, powerful heroes and beautiful ladies, emaciated saints and low-life traitors.
Ancient history is based documents, manuscripts, printed books, paintings, monuments and artefacts - called primary sources.
The problem is that neither these ancient documents, nor events described therein can be irrefutably dated, moreover they contradict each other for the most part.
When a school textbook tells us that Genghis Khan in year X or Alexander in year Y, have each conquered half of the world, it means only that it is so said in some of the written sources.
There are no answers to simple questions:
When were these primary sources written?
Where and by whom were these sources found?
It is wrongly presumed that ancient and medieval chronicles, written by Genghis Khan's or Alexander the Great contemporaries and eyewitnesses, are readily available. Actually, only sources written hundreds or even thousands of years after the events are there, compiled mostly in the 16th 18th centuries, or even later.
As a rule, these sources suffered considerable multiple manipulations, falsifications and distortions by editing. At the same time,
innumerable originals of ancient documents under various pretexts were destroyed in Europe under various pretexts.
The names of persons and geographical sites often changed meaning and location during the course of the centuries.
Geographical locations became clearly defined on maps only with the advent of printing.
This made possible the circulation of identical copies of the same map for purposes of the military, navigation, education and governance tasks.
Historians from Oxford say: "hey, everybody knows that Julius Caesar lived in the first century B.C.
`Julius Caesar' statement is only a point of view as
there is simply no irrefutable documentary proof that Julius Caesar or any other great name of antiquity ever existed.
Better than that - extremely rare sources that can be reliably dated back to the 10th-14th centuries A D, do not show the polished picture of classical history.
They show a picture both contradictory and confusing.
All methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts are erroneous:
Radio-carbon C14 method produces dating with exactitude of plus minus 1500 years, therefore it is too crude for dating of events in historical timeframe!
The Almagest tractate, which lies as corner stone contemporary chronology, compiled in the 2nd century A D by Ptolemy, the founding father of astronomy, contains astronomical data of 9th to 16th century!
The Bronze Age,that has supposedly began 5000 years ago. Bronze is made of 90% copper and 10% tin, but the technology for tin extraction dates back to 14th century A D!.
All eclipses contained in manuscripts, like Thucydides one, relating 'ancient' events have exclusively medieval dating. All horoscopes cut in stone or painted in Egyptian temples, like Dendera have exclusively early medieval dating solutions.
Not quite what you have learned in school? Open your eyes, and, you will find sufficient proof to reach step by step the inevitable conclusion that the classical chronology is false and therefore, that the history of ancient and medieval world universally accepted today, is also false. Have a fresh outlook on everything said or printed about "ancient" and "enigmatic" Roman, Greek and Egyptian, medieval as well as all other "lost and found" civilizations.
Antiquity and Dark Ages are phantoms invented in the 16th 18th and polished in 19th 20thcenturies. Human civilization is in fact barely 1000 years old!
This book will change your perception of History forever!
What if Ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt were invented during Renaissance?
What if The Old Testament was a rendition of events of the Middle Ages?
What if Jesus Christ was born in 1053 and crucified in 1086 AD?
Sounds Unbelievable?
Not after you've read "History: Fiction or Science?" by Anatoly Fomenko, the genius mathematician.
Armed with astronomy and computers Anatoly Fomenko turns History into a rocket science.
Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

An entrepneurship book worth your time and money! This book is more of a crash course in strategic entrepreneurship. The author is extremely qualified and passionate about the subject. The chapters are loaded with smart tips and valuable tools. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to be a global business leader. Finally, this book will get you thinking in ways to be a better entrepreneur.
New Venture Bible.......2007-08-13
Although I studied Entrepreneurism and now teach the subject at Waseda University in Tokyo Japan, I learned a number of things and synthesized a few things using Gordon's models that made it much easier for students to digest. This is the best book/text I know of to teach upper level undergraduates or beginning graduates students in management. I started an apparel company in 1989 and I wish I had this book as a guide. I made a lot of mistakes that I could have avoided using the information in this book.
Entreprenurial Genie in a Bottle! .......2007-08-13
If you ever thought of starting your own business and wanted to test, develop and launch your idea against a variety of practical and proven market scenarios, Michael E. Gordon's Entreprenuership 101 positions you for stellar success.
Crafted in an engaging and illuminating literary style, Gordon's book and the man himself, walks the talk! As a veteran entreprenuer who broke out of the corporate confines of bureaucratic lethargy, Gordon followed the glint in his eye and built and sold a company on an idea that had all of the hallmarks of a true opportunity. What exactly is a real opportunity and how do you know if you've got one? Read the book, understand Gordon's customer model and get ready for the ride of your life! This is truly a life-changing handbook for anyone with even the slightest inclination towards entreprenuerial freedom.
This book may also work its inspirational magic on you!.......2007-06-16
Gordon's Entrepreneurship 101 is one of the best books I've ever read! This all-in-one business book ranges from the entrepreneur's mindset to the actions taken. It develops a series of unique frameworks, models, and tips for essential entrepreneurial "thriving forces," the forces that not only lead the entrepreneurs to be successful, but also shape their business to be promising. Through a systematic approach and interactive learning model professionally designed by the author, the book enriched me more solid skills of HOW to turn our idea into a money machine that produces sustainable long-term profit more easily. Another feature of this book I particularly like is that the various analysis tools briefed in charts and exhibits can be downloaded from the website for our personal use.
I also appreciate the writing style in clear and direct presentation, which sort of exposed me to quick digesting, to quick absorbing, to quick thinking, to quick acting, and to quick changing. The best part of this book is the "Action" section at the end of each chapter. After getting the entrepreneur's mindset and being trained to think and act like an entrepreneur, you can't wait to take actions to be a real, ambitious and successful entrepreneur!
I highly recommend this book to all my friends, business partners and the people who are reading my review: don't miss this book; this book may also work its inspirational magic on you! As a venture capitalist, I can confirm with you that the people who possess the spirit of Entrepreneurship 101 are our investment targets!

Customer Reviews:
Thank you Melvin! Great book, one complaint.......2004-09-01
First of all, thank you to Melvin from Pa for offering the updated information on how to contact Wade and for a great review.
Secondly, Wall Street Money Machine VOL 2 is a great book. I have been following these strategies through August and made some nice gains. In particular, using the tandem plays has been very effective for me.
My only complaint is that toll free number that is listed in the book. CAUTION: This is an old number and is no longer a link to Wade Cook's company. Instead, it is a link to one of Wade's competitor's and based on a brief conversation that I had, one that needs to be avoided.
And Melvin, I contacted my local bookstore and they h ave Wade's newest book in stock and I am on my way now to pick it up. Thanks for recommending it!
Why not decide for yoruself?.......2004-08-31
I see Gary Walls is back with his incessant 1 star bashings of Wade. Having done some research it was widely believed that Walls went down with the stock market decline. Apparently not.
My suggestion is not to listen to that sole 1 star basher or any of the 5 star reviewers either. Why not go to your local library and borrow it for FREE and then decide if you want to follow Wade's advice and if making this cash flow textbook a permanent part of your library is worth it to you?
Good advice huh? You won't find Gary Walls offering that kind of advice, much easier to bash without evidence and I guess the fact that you are being paid by Wade's competitors to bash Wade may have something to do with.
I also recommend that you check out Wednesday's with Wade, a teleconference program every Wednesday at 9:00PM EST. Go to Wade's website www.wadecook.org. for details. Get Wade's newest strategies. Also recommend Wade's newest book Wade Cook's Stock Picking Handbook.
Disregard parasites like GARY WALLS. These kind of people obviously have an agenda and it has nothing to do with helping you financially or helping you discover the truth.
Take Cook's strategies with a grain of salt........2004-08-27
I read this book and was pretty unimpressed. The majority of the time I felt like I was reading a large pamphlet for is seminars and online website. I think he even included his 1-800 number at least half a dozen times within the text (If you have any more questions just call 1-800... and we can set you up with some more information).
Secondly, before reading anything by him do a quick web-search on a popular search engine for "Wade Cook", and just read some of the websites. The first one that comes up is him home page that states that his company has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. I bring these points up because with a book like this, where you are following someone's investment advice, you have to check the person's credentials and see if they really know what they are talking about -- in my opinion his credentials don't check out.
Lastly, as it says, I gave these book 2 stars, simply because some of the information is useful such as his explanation of options and different types of stock that you can trade. But his writing style is too casual and he doesn't explain the put/call options all that well, he just starts going into the strategy and how to use them, but if you don't know how they work -- you are going to get burned, and burned bad. If you do want to read this book, do pay him for it - go to a library. There are plenty of other stock market books on amazon.com that are worth your $20+. If you do read this book, take in all the information about the way trading works, but don't listen to any of his strategy advice.

You'll read more about covered calls, rolling stocks, stock split exit strategies, naked puts and more. This book will put your cash flow on turbo charge!
Demystified option trading for me.......2004-07-11
Before buying this great book by the great Wade Cook, I knew nothing about trading, the stock market and thought options was a choice on which stock to buy. WADE COOK helped demystify the whole darn thing for me. Trading became easy, fun and very profitable. Even without knowing what I was doing completely, I was able to make 200%-1000% annualized returns.
This book is different than Wall Street Money Machine VOL 1. It covers trading much more completely. Another winner from Wade.
Book Description
FREE! The word and concept have been the advertising foundation for billion dollar corporations, the heartbeat of huge marketing campaigns, and the nexus between companies and customers for eons. Now, New York Times best-selling author Wade Cook introduces the LOCC(tm) (Large Option Covered Calls) system -- a system that can generate 80% to 100% returns for traders who master it.
"...you read the title to this book: Free Stocks: How To Get The Market To Pay For Your Stocks--FREE!, and what do you think? Is there a catch? I'll be right up front and say there is, but it's not what you think. ... There is a way to get FREE STOCKS, which if you get to the bottom line meaning of FREE, is simply that you do not pay for your stocks yourself. I'm talking about quality stocks...you get to choose! You can be as diversified as you want. ... you can pretty much start with any amount of money....
"...this is not a get-rich quick-plan. This is also not some ambiguous, nebulous method that only a few people can master and use. It is also not a theory. It is an in-the-trenches, workable, cash flow stock market money machine. This plan takes a simple yet overlooked aspect of the stocks and options markets and puts it to full use. The results are dynamic and far-reaching." (Excerpt from the book.)
If you like the buy-and-hold strategy of investing, how do you get the money to pay for your stock? Wade Cook demonstrates how to get the market to pay for your stock with five to seven months using his NEW LOCC(tm) system.
In Free Stocks, you will find out about:
* Option Cycles And Market Makers
* How Implied Volatility Affects Option Pricing
* Buybacks And Rollouts
* Stock Repair Kit
* How To Put Volatility On Your Side -- Be A Seller, Not A Buyer
* When You Get Your Money
* Exploration Of Ways To Increase Gains And Reduce Taxes
* What To Do If The Stock Dips -- Make More Money!
And you simply must see Chapter 2 where the Stock Market Institute of Learning, Inc.(tm) will award $10,000 to the charity of your choice if you find one person who has attended our Wall Street Workshop(tm), used our strategies exactly as they are taught, and then lost money.

Customer Reviews:
Just picked up my copy today - great book on how to make BIG $$$.......2005-10-17
While pervusing this book at my local favorite book retialer, I couldn't believe the claims made herein. As the saying goes, if it looks too good to be true, it usually is. Not with this book though.
Fortunately, a stock trader, an honest one at that also happened to be reading another copy of this book. As I engaged in a conversation with this man, he indicated that he had been using Wade Cook's method's since 1995 and further indicated that he had made some incredible returns. He went onto explain, that there are some unknown ways to make money in the market that most people, average investors like you and me don't know about.
This same man also had a copy of Monday's IBD and showed me which stocks he was going to use for the FREE STOCKS LOCC SYSTEM that Cook teaches in this book.
So while I cannot offer you any incredible stories at this time, since I have not used the techniques as of yet, I will be in the future. Nonetheless, I was very impressed witht he systems contained in this book. So much so that I decided to buy two other Wade Cook books. I'll let you know how I made out.
Impressed me!.......2005-10-16
My local BAMM just got a load of this book as well as other Wade Cook books. Being in management with an uncertain future, I am always looking for extra income opportunities. This program by Wade Cook made the most sense.
I like the idea of selling via Super Covered Calls and then creating income or buying more stocks for free. It's working well for me. As Wade beats to death, "always know your exit and do your homework."
My only word of caution is that there are some promotional pieces inside the book and a toll free number on the inside back cover. I called and was heavily pitched to sign up for a seminar and but other products. When I asked if this was Wade Cook's compnay, the person on the other line simply said, "Who the heck cares about Wade Cook." I can only assume if wasn't and that turned out to be true. I found Wade via his new website at wadecook.org. The customer service people there were much friendlier and even enrolled me in a FREE teleseminar. It was like a breathe of fresh air.
Thanks Wade!
ALL HYPE!! THIS BOOK IS LIKE ONE BIG INFOMERICAL .......2005-10-05
This book is complete junk, most of the 4-5 star rating are probably from Wade's cronnies and fraudster. I was even tricked into attending one of his B.S infomerical seminar. Luckily I detect his B.S and left. Stick with the classic from Bill O'neil, Gerald Loeb, and Darvas.
Powerful advice!.......2005-10-02
This advice can put into early retirement. Wade has been accused of running a get rich scheme and that is partly true. In America, anytime you can come up with a workable strategy that can help you become financially free in less than 4 years, thent hat is quick. Scheme? No, it is just taking advantage on what is available.
And now with stocks like GOOG moving up above the $300 range, it is now possible to get those H-U-G-E premiums that Wade talks about. (This book was written just prior to the Clinton Bear Market in 2000)
Give it a shot.
Fraud.......2005-04-28
This guy was suited by a lot of personal investors.
Matter of fact you can find the law suits against him on the Federal Trade Commission web site: FTC.GOV In the search box type in 'Wade Cook'. There are about 31 hits.
According to the FTC complaint, WCFC's (Wade Cook Financial Corporation) advertising and promotional materials contain express or implied false claims that Wade Cook had earned and consumers would earn extremely high rates of return - returns of 20% or more per month - on their investments using Cook's trading strategies.
Another words, the man can't walk the talk.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED.......2007-01-10
THIS ITEM WAS MORE LIKE A "COPY" OF THE ORIGINAL. SORRY!
Book Description
The Washing Machine is an intriguing book that takes the reader deep inside the world of money laundering and shows it to be a highly sophisticated, global business that poses a serious and systemic threat to the world's financial institutions, as well as the global economy. Investigative journalist and financial expert Nick Kochan profiles the perpetrators, the investigators, and explains the methods employed by international criminals and terrorists to turn dirty money into untraceable wealth. The effort to stop this sinister financial pipeline to terrorist activities is one of the highest profile law enforcement activities in the world at present. Will we lose this battle? The Washing Machine reveals that the dual forces of globalization and a lack of true international cooperation are playing directly into the hands of the criminals.
Customer Reviews:
A Good Introduction But not an Academic Work.......2007-07-03
Kochan's book is a good grounding introduction in the phenomenon of international money-laundering and I would reccommend it for any individual starting off in the area of financial crime. However, for the experienced practitioner nothing in the book is new and indeed some of the case studies presented by Kochan are in places more anecdotal than scientific. Therefore, if you are seeking advice and guidance on the features and characteristics of the most up to date thinking in the area I would reccommend more academic publications such as the FATF reports. Nevertheless the individual case studies are illuminating even if they do indulge a little in the sensational.
Twin Peaks.......2006-06-05
The perverse pursuit of the terrible twin peaks of power and pleasure has, from time immemorial, driven human beings to engage in truly astonishing flights of creative genius, not least with regard to matters financial. Aficionados of the money launderer's art will find much to engage them in The Washing Machine as Nick Kochan, the distinguished investigative journalist, cruelly and clinically strips away not only the glittering corporate faýade of many an august institution to reveal the greedy, cynical inner launderer, but also the glittering Armani suit of many a Mafiosi cash smuggler to reveal the commodiously customised inner boxer shorts.
Kochan takes absolutely no prisoners in this pitiless forensic dissection of the modus operandi of both primary and secondary players of the game - the criminals and terrorists and those who provide succour and assistance in the intricate business of transforming the fruits or means of their nefarious activities into apparently legitimate sources of income to be safely deposited in one of the many idyllically located, fabulously discreet and oh so conveniently "tax neutral" offshore jurisdictions.
For those of a Panglossian disposition - who inhabit a world in which an occasional proverbial bad apple may turn up in an otherwise virtuous corporate or political barrel - this book may prove to be a truly disturbing read.
It will, however, be warmly welcomed by those who affect a more jaded attitude to world affairs as an assiduously researched and deeply satisfying rounding up of both the usual- and some of the more unusual - suspects.
But for those who are perched precariously on the fence that lies between these two extremes and are engaged in the anti- money laundering industry as regulators, practitioners or educators, this book will prove to be an invaluable resource.
The first UK anti money laundering statute, the Drug Trafficking Offences Act of 1986 simply addressed the obvious target of dope dealers seeking to slide duffel bags stuffed with cocaine dusty fivers over the counters of their local high street banks. In the mid 1980s, traditional organised crime groups, such as the Sicilian and Detroit Mafia were very much in the frame of those seeking to outlaw money laundering. The Medin case was a classic example of the use of London solicitors and offshore Jersey shell companies to launder the proceeds of the US Mafia cocaine trade at the rate of $500,000 per week. Meanwhile, the Brinks- Mat bullion robbery was one of the high profile cases from that era which created pressure for the scope of laundering liability to be extended beyond merely the proceeds of drug trafficking. Members of that syndicate notoriously would withdraw enormous sums of money in cash and carry it from high street banks in black bin liners to the extent that so many notes were supplied to the regional office of one particular bank that the Bank of England had to notify the Treasury. No alarm bells were sounded by any of the institutions involved about the massive quantities of gold or money that were being moved around.
It is a measure of just how radically the legal climate has changed that such a state of affairs would be utterly unthinkable today. The notion of money as a commodity exhibiting the characteristic of absolutely negotiability as a means of exchange - an instrument which may be taken completely free of the equities - whose origins are of no concern to the transferee - is but a distant memory.
As those of us who have reason to deal with these matters are only too painfully aware, in the past twenty years the areas of potential liability for money laundering have been remorselessly extended to encompass an ever widening range of occupations and professions.
Those seeking examples and case studies to illustrate the money laundering potential and propensities of such businesses whose owners and employees may be liable if they fail to take adequate cognisance of the provenance of their customers' funds are amply catered for in The Washing Machine.
To take, for example, the current Money Laundering Regulations list which -apart from the obvious traditional financial institutions related activities -now includes, inter alia:
* Provision of accountancy and auditing services: ( Russian mafia p 18)
* Provision of legal services: (launderers in London : p 260 )
* Operating a company formation business: ( BoNYGate case chapter 2)
* Bureaux de change and money service operators :-( Ussama El-Kurd case p 227)
* Operating a casino: -( both in the real world and cyberspace pp 7, 134 and 272)
* Estate agency work: -(the Provisional IRA p 86)
* Dealing in high value goods:..(paramilitaries and their BMWs p 88)
* Art auctioneers: (the Russian Mafia p 8)
But this is just the icing on the cake. The book is structured to cover four principal areas of concern:- the Russian criminal oligarchs; terrorist financing; black markets for the supply of illegal goods and services, and the banks and other professional gatekeepers whose services are utilised to assist in the laundering process. The fifth and final part provides an astute critical analysis of the response of law enforcement agencies in the UK, the US and around the world.
While the ending of the cold war may have brought a peace dividend for some it has proved a cruel day of reckoning for many in the former eastern block. Kochan chronicles the pathos and absurdity of the spectacle of a senior Russian nuclear physicist and a computing expert being reduced to working with the Mafia to market Italian pantyhose through kiosks in Russian towns- all the while paying $1500 per month protection money which did not, in the end, save them from a beating.
This story was one small episode culled from the testimony of a whistleblower who provided western law enforcement agencies with chapter and verse on the business empire of one of the most notorious Russian criminal oligarchs, Semion Mogilevich, whose interests mimicked those of traditional US Mafiosi families, incorporating the sale and transportation of illegal goods and services including narcotics, prostitution and gambling.
However, as one FBI Director noted in a speech to his opposite number in Moscow a few years ago, it took law enforcement in the US 50 years before it finally began to get to grips with organised crime. This was achieved by, inter alia, the introduction in the early 70s of measures such as the increased use of undercover sting operations; the RICO legislation; the Bank Secrecy Act and anti- paperhanging measures such as the creation of the Securities Information Center to counteract the use of lost stolen and counterfeit securities as collateral for loans. This latter reform met with stiff opposition from the Chicago Mafia who fought the introduction of the SIC in the Court of Appeals on the basis that it would restrict the negotiability of financial paper. They lost, however, as the Court accepted the admitted impediment to negotiability as an acceptable trade off for an effective weapon to use against the Mafia paperhangers. The Russians, he noted, should not therefore lose too much sleep if they had not succeeded in eradicating organised crime after a few short years of a free market economy.
The intricate financing arrangements of Bin Laden's Al Qaida, the Provisional IRA and other terrorist organisations are chronicled in Part 2. While the use of relatively unregulated high value goods, such as African blood diamonds, by terrorist organisations has been alluded to elsewhere, readers may be surprised to discover that Osama also made use of the Yemeni honey trade as a smuggling and money laundering front. Honey apparently enjoys the status of being a particularly useful commodity for the transport of illegal goods as a consequence of its property of extreme stickiness!
Segueing smoothly from honey to honey traps brings us to Operation Casablanca and the use of contemporaneous modes of law enforcement such as electronic surveillance and covert human operations, which have been , pioneered to such devastating effect by US agencies - notably the FBI, DEA and Customs. Operation Casablanca was a massive US sting operation mounted to infiltrate the Colombian drugs money laundering machine being run by a dozen Mexican banks. Before the final denouement and arrest of the bankers they were offered the delights of a corporate hospitality package in the guise of a visit to a brothel, which turned out to be the local police station.
This operation bears many of the hallmarks of the famous BCCI related Operation C Chase sting where the unsuspecting Colombian drug money launderers were entertained to the lavish phoney Florida wedding reception of a pair of undercover US customs operatives. The male members of the party were then cordially invited to withdraw from the ladies to enjoy a hard core porn movie session where they were to meet a similarly ignominious fate - an admittedly rather basic but nevertheless remarkably successful strategy for the rounding up of the usual suspects....
The Brinks- Mat launderers' adventures with cash filled bin liners pale into insignificance when compared with the audacious wholesale plundering of state coffers by African heads of state such as President Sani Abacha who, with the eager cooperation of the friendly State Bank Governor, was in the habit of arranging for bags of cash, typically 15 per trip to be removed from the bank and ferried chez Abacha in an armoured car flanked truck.
Abacha's ill gotten gains were duly laundered in many of the most respectable of the world's financial institutions, including 23 London banks. These banks have escaped the full force of the law by dint of the fact that they engaged in these pursuits before the FSA was endowed with its current enforcement powers. Kochan describes this truly shocking and astonishing episode in excruciatingly intimate detail.
Such depredations make a total mockery of the whole process of government and lend succour to those prone to argue that overseas aid is a simple means of transferring shed loads of cash from poor people in the developed world to rich people in the developing world. This chapter should be read by anyone engaged in banking anywhere in the world.
Given that great wealth and power will always be coveted as the primary conduit to pleasure and even in, some cases eternal paradise, and given that, save the unlikely possibility that one may discover an ability to select one's forbears on the basis of their ability to bestow inherited wealth on their fortunate offspring, there will always be war, crime, corruption, the cooking of corporate books and the manipulation of financial markets. It follows inevitably that there will, of course, always be bankers and other professionals only too willing and eager to offer their services to assist in the sanitising and preservation of the proceeds of such activities in exchange for appropriate remuneration.
Governments and law enforcement agencies may seek to thwart such activities, but so long as politicians and others in positions of power and influence wish to evade taxation, make killings on the markets, obfuscate the financial provenance of their political support, wage wars, operate maverick and highly resourced intelligence services and engage in ideological struggles, the effectiveness of such enforcement will never meet the possibly more exacting standards of those who do an honest day's work and pay tax at source from their incomes.
In writing this fascinating, exhaustively researched and generously sourced book Nick Kochan has forged a powerful weapon with which they can at least come out fighting.

ultimately naive and silly.......2006-05-13
This book is, ultimately, a naive and silly approach to a serious subject. I am afraid that the author comes too late to the game and brings too little. Worth a miss.
Important subject but the data overwhelmed the author.......2006-05-06
As some one who in their job has to consider the impact of financial crime and anti-money laundering (and not just anti-terrorist financing), I believe the importance of books like this cannot be under-estimated. Allowing the decline of financial banking systems by recycling the proceeds of crime plus inadequate international controls allowing the transfer of the proceeds of kleptocracy governments (the Abacha administration in Nigeria being the main one covered here) and causing the destruction of their domestic eceonomies, has a real domino effect on the robustness of the global economy.
The book covers all the main signposts and cases seen in recent years and so in terms of content is spot on for the historical aspects. The core problem and why this book fails as a good read or a primer for action is the author comes across as totally overwhelmed by the material. Chapter after chapter seems an attempt to brain dump all the data he has read in his research on the specific subject. This is demonstrated by each chapter relying heavily on a few key government papers or Reports of Enquiry. The consequence is a very piecemeal style of writing and the fact that so many chapters have numerous references to content in other chapters shows a lack of order and discipline in compiling and blending the themes and overall story.
As a general background read and primer to the subject it is fine though for people who do not encounter such financial crime and laundering in their work, better use of some simple examples and diagrams to explain the scams would I think have helped considerably, especially on the use of cross border flows and sham structures.
The book by the end is heavy on case data especially Citibank who come out very badly in their actions over the years but light on how effective the many checks and balances put in by regulators since 9/11 especially could be applied to work better. One cannot help but feel the current regimes in many countries will only catch the small fry and the incompetent and a radical rethink is needed. The end story of how the Irish republic government has applied different tactics relying on extracting money and assets off the crooks than putting them in jail initially is one of the few cases I have seen of such a rethink to date.
Author exposes global terrorism's economic engine.......2006-04-24
With huge swaths of the world's economy taking place in the black market, money laundering has turned into an intractable problemw with wide-ranging consequences. British journalist Nick Kochan offers an intriguing study of this shadowy world. He argues that laundering was an overlooked problem in the U.S. before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks pushed the issue to the fore. Indeed, he says, Americans were oblivious to the effects of dirty money. Kochan details the sordid sagas of Russian gangsters, Colombian kingpins and corrupt Mexican bankers. At times, his broad approach hinders his prose, and his examples aren't always as compelling as they should be. Still, we recommend this eye-opening study to anyone who deals with the global movement of money.

Interesting Read.......2006-07-17
The book provides some interesting insights into the consultancy business. It highlights some shortcomings about the services that consultants provide. The book is well written in simple and easy to follow language and style. Readers who have had experience working with consultants are likely to relate to some shortcomings highlighted in the book.
The book should be of interest to a wide readership including consultants, companies wishing to engage consultants, academics in the field and analysts as well as any reader wishing to be acquainted with the workings of consultants. Good consultants would no doubt be happy to guard against the failures highlighted in the book, of failing to provide practical workable advice and guidance to clients at reasonable fees. Managers in organizations would learn about more pragmatic ways to manage the relationship with consultants and ensure that they get value for their money. Students of the profession will learn some of the shortcomings that they need to avoid if they are to establish a trusting and mutually beneficial relationship with clients.
For the unethical consultants, well, the secrets of your tricks have been revealed, so it is time to change and avoid shaming a good and worthwhile profession.
I should also say that I have witnessed some excellent consultants that have done a wonderful job of turning some organizations around and saving the livelihoods of thousands of employees. At the end of the day, we have to appreciate that consultants give advice to change or improve a situation but have no direct control over the implementation.
Good for both: consultants and their clients.......2006-04-13
This book was an interesting change in my readings menu. The book's `true story telling' style gave it a nice `page turner' effect but yet it had so many interesting facts about our business. If you are a consultant with a straight forward and honest attitude towards your clients, this book will expose the real deal about some of your competitors and hopefully give you a positive charge to carry on like the one I received. The potential clients who are considering hiring a consultant will also benefit from this book as their selection will be more educated and wise. Finally, to those consulting companies practicing such despicable methods depicted in this book I say: you are a disgrace to the consulting profession.
A must read for anyone interested in business or politics.......2006-01-25
Great - I laughed and winced at the same time. It's all too horribly true. Buyers of consultancy are spending shareholders' and taxpayers' money, not their own. They have a duty to make sure that they are getting value from it. Often, they are not. As quoted from the FT, "No company or government department should let a management consultant through the door until they have read this book from cover to cover. Twice."
A bit of bile.......2005-10-04
The book is a thin account of the author's experiences as a big 5 consultant, and takes place before the implosion and restructuring of the overall consulting market.
The resulting conclusions are largely inuendo as the facts are not fully attributed. It has a tell all style, but without the tell all facts. For such a accusatory set-up, the finish is weak. As a buyer, I felt ripped off.
Reply to a previous review.......2005-09-08
As the author of Rip-Off! I wanted to reply to the review "don't expect too much". I don't mind a bad review. But I have a feeling that the review was actually written by a consultant pretending to be an executive so that they could slate a book which criticizes consultants. I have 3 reasons for being suspicious: my book has had rave reviews from senior journalists and respected management experts: the reviewer actually uses words and phrases taken directly from articles about the book: the reviewer says he is an executive who has worked with consultants for 10 years - what executive worth their salary would use consultants for 10 years? Anyway, you can make up your own mind by reading the 1st chapter free on www.consulting-moneymachine.com and if you like it buy the book at amazon

The Used Car Money Machine .......2006-11-05
I really liked this book. I highly recommend it to any entrepreneur; especially anyone considering buying and selling used cars. The book loses some of its wind toward the end but overall I must say that it is a well thought out book.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS BOOK IS HORRIBLE!.......2005-08-27
I cant believe that I actually paid for this book. Anyone with a brain knows that if you buy low and sell high, you will make money. If you know that then you dont need this book. This book is silly. I cant believe that it was even printed.
TOW TRUCK DRIVER GETTING IT DONE.......2004-07-07
I have been in the towing business for 13 years and one of the
few perks would be the chance to buy and sell used cars.
I try to buy at least one or two a month to pick up an extra
$1500 or so. For me The Used car Money Machine was really
helpful. At least it made me aware if I can find two bargins
than why not 3 or four. Bargins are out there every day and you
do not need to be an insider to make money. Don'y listen to the
haters out there the book is well worth $13.00! A lot of money
is made with used cars but it does take some work. Just buying
a diet book wont make you skinny you gotta be into it.
Worthless.......2004-03-14
It's funny that I see two reviews that say the book is lousy, and several others that sound like a commercial. So, what's the truth? The truth is this book is little more than a pamphlet hyping the used car biz. It offers very little in terms of specifics. Those reviews praising the book as some sort of godsend were put there by the author. This book is filled with vague and very obvious information. I have found all the information in this book and more on the internet for free. DO NOT BUY!
51 year old high school grad gets it!.......2004-02-21
I get it! All in all some really good advice. I have been in the car business for over 30 years. I have done wholesale and retail
both buying and selling. I even did repo's for three years. This
book was on the money for me. There are thousands of guys quietly
making money buying and selling used cars and I am one of them.
I liked it and believe you would find the advice in the book valuble but what do I know I am just a pretty well to do high
school grad!
Customer Reviews:
out of date and legally questionable........2007-05-06
This book may have been helpful in the past, but it really fails to address the legal pitfalls of using a wrap around mortgage with a due on sale clause, which is pretty much every mortgage written since the early 1980s. If someone transfers any interest without telling the bank, the whole mortgage could be called with 30 days notice. This might be ok if mortgage rates are falling, particularly if the buyer has good credit, but if that's the case, why wouldn't they want a new mortgage at a lower rate? If mortgage rates are rising, and the credit risks don't match current lending criteria (which is the case with lots of marginal borrowers when money is tightening), you could lose everything.
I realize Mr. Cook doesn't want to face litigation for giving specific advice, but its really quite pointless to buy this book.
Love the new version.......2007-02-28
I bought the original version of this book back in late 1989. The title appealed to me and the concept really appealed to me; to be able to cash flow real estate and not have to worry about the three T's in real estate
Tenants
Toilets
Turnover
Most of the advice back in those days advised buying and holding real estate. I read one book where the author said he urned $1,000 into a million by buying and fixing up propteries and then holding on to those properties. I had a few problems with that theory. First of all, that book was written back in the 50's where $1,000 was more like $10,000 in modern times. I didn't have the cash to buy the number of properties that that author did to make that $1 million fortune.
Secondly, I am not very good with tools or in fix up. Like Robert Allen, I hardly know which end of the hammer to use. I hate painting. To hire people for fixup would have eaten into potential profits.
And finally, I wanted income NOW. I didn't want to have to wait 20-30 years for properties to appreciate.
And I really didn't want to have to deal with banks and traditional forms of lending. I ran some hypothetical deals through a local banker here in Orlando and also in Pennsylvania where I was from originally. I found that bankers are not friendly people to do business with and this form of lending would impede my goals.
Enter Wade Cook.
You don't "buy & hold" real estate, you buy and sell.
You don't go through banks, you are the bank.
You create notes that creates residual income for years and years.
You can do these deals with nothing down.
The buyers do the fix up, not me ( I liked that)
I won't even waste my time addressing the Wade Cook bashers. I'll just ignore them like everyone else. The only thing that I will mention though is that when I came back to this board I noticed an alert by Amazon that 82% of the people who come to this board for real estate books buy Real Estate Money Machine and less than 5% buy the books recommended by Wade's bashers. I guess that explains why Wade's bashers are so upset!
I started investing in real estate in 1992 using Wade's ideas and some other techniques as well. I was able to pick up a nice property in North Orlando and made a nice profit on my first deal. All without bank financing or real estate brokers.
Real Estate Money Machine is a great book. The new version has been revised and updated for the times and packed with powerful information. If your goal is to make money in real estate, then this book should be in your library or perhaps right next to your bedstand. My original copy was dog eared and literally fell apart so I bought the new one. Actually I would have bought it anyway because it is better than the original.
Wade gives some ideas for running ads. Actually the ad that I ran is in this book. It works.
In addition to Real Estate Money Machine, I also recommened Real Esate for Real People, How To Pick Up Foreclosures and 101 Ways to Buy Real Estate Without Cash, all by Wade Cook.
Reader.......2006-04-01
If you're interested in flipping properties, don't waste your money on this book. The author is selling a dream. He leads you down a primrose path and makes you think you can get rich quickly and easily, i.e., no money down deals...that's pie in the sky. What percent of deals are no money down? Trust me, very, very few.
I've been successful financially with real estate investing for the past 8 years, both flipping and purchasing rental properties. It's a lucrative business, but just be aware that real estate investing tends to be more management intensive than other types of investments. And it requires some of your own money to buy--these are just the facts. I've never seen or been involved in a no money down transaction. I don't know of any easy or quick ways to real estate wealth, and the author makes it seem like you can cash in over night. He sounds like a late night TV pitch-man, interested in selling books and seminars rather than providing the reader with honest, reliable information.
If you're interested in flipping properties, read Kevin C. Myers' book, Buy It, Fix It, Sell It, Profit! If you're interested in rental property, I'd recommend Richard H. Jorgensen's book, The New No-Nonsense Landlord, Building Wealth with Rental Properties. Both of these books shoot straight with the reader and provide usable information that will increase your bank account, unlike the book reviewed here.
More useful now than ever.......2004-09-10
Recent reports indicate that the huge growth and appreciation in real estate may be slowing or even over, like it was in the 80's.
The fact is you can always make money in real estate, you just have to change your strategy. In Real Estate Money Machine you will find methods and techniques to cash flow real estate and to make money in any market.
Real Estate Money Machine is ideal for anyone who wants to make money in real estate NOW rather than wait for years to gain appreciation.
Powerful advice! Ignore paid bashers.......2004-07-11
As Wade is so fond of saying, "To Whom Are You Listening To?" To which I will add, do you want to listen to some paid bashers or to a millionaire like Wade Cook?
Wade was the first to tout lease purchases via his money machine concepts back in the 80's. His advice works. I know because I have used it.
