Book Description
Winning by not competing: a fresh approach to strategy Since the dawn of the industrial age, companies have engaged in head-to-head competition in search of sustained, profitable growth. They have fought for competitive advantage, battled over market share, and struggled for differentiation. Yet these hallmarks of competitive strategy are not the way to create profitable growth in the future. In a book that challenges everything you thought you knew about the requirements for strategic success, W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne argue that cutthroat competition results in nothing but a bloody red ocean of rivals fighting over a shrinking profit pool. Based on a study of 150 strategic moves spanning more than a hundred years and thirty industries, the authors argue that lasting success comes not from battling competitors, but from creating “blue oceans”: untapped new market spaces ripe for growth. Such strategic moves—which the authors call “value innovation”—create powerful leaps in value that often render rivals obsolete for more than a decade. Blue Ocean Strategy presents a systematic approach to making the competition irrelevant and outlines principles and tools any company can use to create and capture blue oceans. A landmark work that upends traditional thinking about strategy, this book charts a bold new path to winning the future.
Customer Reviews:
Question the status quo.......2007-09-25
The book forced me to rethink the way I normally would look at business developments for my companies: either value based or feature based. The idea of a creating new space in a crowded market and making a leap in growth through the blue ocean strategy stirred up my thinking juices. Personally, I don't like how to books with "three simple steps" This book was great; a must read.
Good Book.......2007-09-24
1. This is NOT a marketing book
2. There is no such thing as a fail safe strategy
3. This is a tool and is only as good as the user
4. Applicable in different situations
5. Good companion to Competitive Strategy written in the 80's by Mike Porter which is THE industry book
6. The book is NOT a pioneer and is NOT proported to be. It is a study in those companies who seemed to have created new markets such as Cirque De Soleil. The authors did NOT set out to create a new "theory" and then retroactively "fit" companies but rather study an emerging pheonom. and try to locate patterns.
I think that pretty much covers all the gripes of the previous entries. I first came across this book in a competitive strategy class in a business organizational change degree. It is an excellent text and gives another viewpoint to the old study of competitive strategy. I have used the strategy canvas tool located in chapter two AS A TOOL to assist me in both departmental and industry situations to locate existing patterns of competition.
Worth the money.
But then, I am just a "mere" academic (albeit with many years of industry experience) so if you truly do not like the book I suggest returning it. :)
What is your greatest challenge?.......2007-09-13
The greatest struggle for most business people is to come up with a truly original and valuable idea. Close behind that is how to get employees to work together. This book makes me want to cry, because it actually, simply, lays out how to do both. Beautiful.
Academics rarely demonstrate how to do it!.......2007-09-11
I bought this book. Their identifications are valid enough. Great companies have always created uncontested market space while making their competitors irrelevant. This is not in dispute. However...
The authors Chan Kim & Renee Mauborgne are just mere academics. And what is annoying is that they haven't battle tested their Blue Ocean model from hard knocks in the trenches business wars to find out what works and what doesn't for themselves! Again, this is what I find annoying with academics. They say a lot but never prove it themselves! Remember Merton & Scholes and LTCM?
For an example...in the book, the authors have an interesting strategic canvass graph approach that supposes to prove how Blue Ocean events come about. That's fine, but how do you prove it? Moreover, the 'values' are different for each company, so there is nothing consistent to glean from this.
What I'd like to have seen is a Dash Board type matrix template that allows any company or budding entrepreneur to carry out Blue Ocean due diligence on any industry or market niches...proofing these Blue Ocean catchments from a zero learning curve application! The book does have important points but lacks the cutting edge tools to unify Blue Ocean diligence and proofs for any company!
Thus, what this book lacks is a more honed processing of enquiry from the authors. And I suspect this to be the case because like many academics they haven't proven the unifying dynamics that goes into capturing Blue Ocean strategies for themselves with businesses they have built through their own mindset!
Again, this book is a case of 'do what I say, because I don't have to prove what I say'.
There are great industry shapers out there who can shift and move whole industries and markets in their favour...but the authors of this book are not one of them.
However, there are great positives the authors have identified. The book contains a very interesting 'Strategic Grid' technique. From this simple grid technique any one can mentally survey how to change one's industry or market from a macro-vantage point. But shifting and moving your new found Blue Ocean grid at a tactical level to rule your competition making them irrelevant is another matter entirely. The chapters that explain this grid are worth the book, but don't expect any thing else.
What you really want is a knowledge base that allows you to dig out Blue Ocean criteria from a template of enquiring tools STACKED PROCESS BY PROCESS UNTIL YOU PROOF YOUR OWN BLUE OCEAN POWER. This book fails on this!
I would suggest that any one buying this book should read 'Blue Print to a Billion by David Thomson to understand how real Blue Ocean executions are carried out correctly. In addition, Chet Holmes' Ultimate Sales Machine' gets you to understand how to carry out big frame strategies at the tactical level.
Both these books will plug the holes lacking with Kim & Mauborgne's work.
Blue Ocean Strategy.......2007-09-10
I like the non text book clear presentation. You do not have to have an MBA to enjoy and learn from this book.

Love it! Love It! Love It! .......2007-10-16
Love it! Love It! Love It! "The Pre-Foreclosure Property Investor's Kit" by Thomas Lucier is very informative and a must read for anyone interested in this type of real estate investing. Mr. Lucier tells in detail how to negotiate with homeowners in trouble, how to be the solution to their problem, and how NOT to have the door slammed in your face. He also demystifies the process of dealing with the homeowner's lender by explaining in detail each step in the process of taking the property off their hands. This book, along with Dean Graziosi's [[ ASIN:1593154461 Be A Real Estate Millionaire: Secret Strategies for Lifetime Wealth Today]] have helped me so much in understanding how to be successful with foreclosures.
Great Information! The best investment book I have read to date. .......2007-09-28
This book is simple, straight forward, and realistic. The author does a great job. The book is full of excellent strategies and advice.
Very Good Resource .......2007-09-24
This book provides excellent insight for buying pre-foreclosures. It is well-written, easy to understand, and insightful. The only problem is that it does not give relevant economic information to investors to navigate the real estate bubble. However, I do not fault the author for that since they are really two seperate topics. To fill this gap I would also recommend Cashing in on the Real Estate Bubble. This book focuses on the economic aspect of teh bubble and presents a survey of the best methods to make money from the real estate mess.
If you want to buy pre-foreclosures, I would recommend both books - this one for instructions on how to handle foreclosures and the other (Cashing in on the Real Estate Bubble) as an economic resource. Together, I feel they have given me a huge edge.
Ok content, misleading promise.............2007-09-16
The content of the book is solid and practical. However, don't believe the author's statement in the book that he will answer questions sent to him directly via email. I sent repeated emails to Mr. Lucier requesting clarification of a couple scenarios from the book and have had no responses.
Excellant with lots of meat........2007-08-26
This book will not do the job for you rather it will make you think. Granted the author is a little odd but, the information is true to fact. You start to think when you read this book and then the inspiration comes. This book is only a stepping block to great things. I apply this and a lot of other information and I make a great living. I hope people do not like this book so, I can eliminate the competition. LOL

From the school of unemotional investing comes the classic How to Make Money in Stocks, by Wall Street analyst and publisher William O'Neil. Readers new to securities will find it an excellent primer, one that relies on time-honored indicators such as quarterly earnings, market capitalization, and daily indexes. O'Neil's study of winning stocks stretches back to the 1960s, and he shares his insights here, describing what characterizes a growth stock, when to cut your losses (at 7 or 8 percent, no more), and how to spot a market top.
The techniques in How to Make Money in Stocks are hardly revolutionary, but therein lies their strength, as O'Neil claims his is "a winning system in good times or bad." Investors interested in Net stocks might be disappointed--the author's first rule is that a company must show a pattern of growing profits, which disqualifies many dot coms. (Try Rule Breakers, Rule Makers for a different take.) O'Neil's approach to stocks is, above all, rational, and he pays little heed to market hype.
Those new to investing would do well to read this book before embarking, and even more seasoned traders may find How to Make Money in Stocks a refreshing return to basics. Markets may swing bull and bear, but O'Neil promises to stand firm. --Demian McLean

Championship Stock Trading Methods Revealed.......2007-10-17
I'll heard about this book years ago, but dismissed it because of it's title. But, I learned that someone named David Ryan won three investing championships with real money using the methods revealed in this book. And I wanted to start trading in the stock market again, but this time I wanted to learn a method that will help me be successful for a change.
I think that if you are new to investing in the stock market and would like to learn a good way to get started, then this book "How To Make Money In Stocks," by William O'Neil is a good guide.
You will learn all about the CANSLIM rules for selecting stocks that are about to make the big price moves. Also included is advice on buying only when a stock is making new highs or breaking out on big volume and cutting your loses short to protect your funds if you're wrong.
It shows you the five basic chart patterns that you should look for in a stock that is about to take off. And these patterns will help you buy at the right price.
The last few chapters are devoted to the features of Investor's Business Daily, which will help you find and track stocks that match the characteristics of the CANSLIM method.
I actually order this book at a local Borders -- paying full price -- because I didn't want to wait for the mail. I was in a hurry to learn how to use Investors.com -- one of the websites of Investors' Business Daily which I have subscribed too.
Interesting but not great.......2007-09-13
I'm new to investing but have read 7 books in the last couple of months on investing and financial statement analysis. These other books (the intelligent investor etc.) are more focused on value investing and tend to dissuade from considering stocks at all time highs. So it was interesting to read a different approach and this book would certainly make me consider looking at more growth stocks. It was also good to get some basics on chart interpretation which I think will prove useful. The downside is that the book (like all his books from looking at other reviews) focuses too much on IBD his website/newspaper, also the explanations for interpreting the charts was not really thorough enough, also a lot of the charts that he advised not to buy on did not look all that dissimilar in places to charts that he advised were good buys - its easy to go back in hindsight on the ones that didn't take off in price and pick holes into why they didn't.
Also his guide to selling at 7% to 8% below your buy price seems a bit extreme - maybe this is just for high risk growth stock buys but in general given the nature of the market most stock fluctuate far more and could be down 8% over a week to recover to the same of higher level the following week. If you sold every time as he suggests you'd constantly be selling and trying to find new stocks to buy.
He seemingly derides the value investing concept which is odd as some of the best investors of all time followed this approach - Buffett & Graham and their disciples being the obvious ones. Overall an interesting read for a different perspective and introduction to chart interpretation.
Study This Book.......2007-09-08
This book is very easy and most interesting to read. The author, Wm. O'Neil is the founder of Investor Business Daily newspaper, which I have always considered the best financial newspaper.
If you are willing to "study" and learn rather than just read this book, You will make money in stocks.
I use this book and Jim Cramer's 'Real money' and 'Mad Money' books daily (almost like text books) to study, learn and apply what I learn.
Hybrid Investing 101.......2007-07-27
An excellent book on how to use both fundamental and technical analysis together to produce big profits. William J O neal is a great author.
Wish I read this 10 years ago.......2007-06-08
Great book. Sound concepts that work. Yes, I subscribe to the paper (IBD) and use his rules. I'm up over 30% in a solid bull market over the last 4 months without being fully invested. When the market pulls back, my stocks also pull back, but when the market is up, my stocks tend to go up hard.
I find that I do better when I pyramid up after a bounce off the 50-day rather than every 2% or round number like promoted by Darvas. It's a good book worth underlining and scribbling all over the margins.

Customer Reviews:
Great instructive book.......2007-07-30
This book is exactly what I was looking for. I was interested in getting started in buying and selling real estate options and this book gets to the heart of it. There are a multitude of great suggestions, tips, and instruction. I would be lost without it. There are even sample forms. Worth twice the price!!
Unique but Highly Profitable Real Estate Investment Strategy.......2007-07-26
Real estate options are a very little used tool in the business, possibly because many people confuse them with land contracts. RE Options are nothing like land contracts, in a land contract you are obligated to buy. In an option you have the option of purchasing at a preset price. A number of examples are given and this is a well written book for people who have never attempted this. I recommend this book to all RE investors and Realtors.
Bad writing style.......2007-05-13
Like Lucier's other book on finding preforeclosure properties, this book on real estate options, while full of useful information, is so hard to read because of the terrible writing style that it is hard to recommend very strongly. His uneducated writing style causes me to wonder if he really knows what he is talking about. Prepare to be educated by torture if you choose to read this book.
Another real estate tool for the box.......2007-03-26
Great for a rookie to get lot of updated real estate information, but this book is probably geared toward an investor with a little more experience or a rookie investor that is well schooled. What was the best information in this book? - How to structure and execute real estate options. Also good a strategy, which involves locating distressed property, controlling that property with an option, and then finding a buyer who would probably not have considered that property until you were able to show him the potential in that property. Another real estate tool for the box.
The ideas sound great, but lack online support.......2007-01-23
I read most of this book and the ideas sound great, but after checking the author's web site I found the support limited. He offers his own personal support for a fee, but there is no way to contact anyone other than himself. Like every other how-to book on real estate you have to ask a question. Does anyone besides the author use this method? If so, how do I contact these individuals?
Until I come across a book like this, I find it hard to believe the author's information.

Wellness is worth it!.......2007-08-07
Paul educates the reader about how to take part in the next trillion dollar industry by getting into health and wellness.
Question about something.......2007-07-30
I have read some of this book in the bookstore because it looked rather interesting - and is. And maybe I'm stretching things, but I was 'confused' by some things in it, and here is one example. He talks about Dr. Mercola's website, which I had previously learned about and registered on. Then later in the book, he touts how GREAT soy is. Well anyone that follows Mercola's website knows that Dr. M does not promote soy and actually has articles detailing the adverse effects that regular consumption of soy can produce. And with Pilzer writing about Mercola and later about how good soy is, well those two items are in conflict to me. I suppose I should see this book more along the lines of reference material as well as a promotion of how trends will tend toward pro-health activities and lifestyles, not forgetting to mention the potentially profitable opportunities that exist. I guess when I read a book, I expect topics and information to run along similar lines. It would be like say a democrat writing a book about his liberal views, with a chapter detailing how Roe vs. Wade should have been thrown out altogether. It just wouldn't be the expected fit for me. I welcome any comments to help me see things more accurately. Feel free to write to me at purpleshake on gmail if so inclined. Thank you.

Being in the Health and Wellness industry i found this book to be state of the art. A definite read for everyone.

It also gave me a lot of new ideas for my current projects. If anyone is considering being involved in this trillion dollar industry, this book is a must read!

Book Description
THE NATIONAL BESTSELLING BOOK THAT EVERY INVESTOR SHOULD OWN
Peter Lynch is America's number-one money manager. His mantra: Average investors can become experts in their own field and can pick winning stocks as effectively as Wall Street professionals by doing just a little research.
Now, in a new introduction written specifically for this edition of One Up on Wall Street, Lynch gives his take on the incredible rise of Internet stocks, as well as a list of twenty winning companies of high-tech '90s. That many of these winners are low-tech supports his thesis that amateur investors can continue to reap exceptional rewards from mundane, easy-to-understand companies they encounter in their daily lives.
Investment opportunities abound for the layperson, Lynch says. By simply observing business developments and taking notice of your immediate world -- from the mall to the workplace -- you can discover potentially successful companies before professional analysts do. This jump on the experts is what produces "tenbaggers," the stocks that appreciate tenfold or more and turn an average stock portfolio into a star performer.
The former star manager of Fidelity's multibillion-dollar Magellan Fund, Lynch reveals how he achieved his spectacular record. Writing with John Rothchild, Lynch offers easy-to-follow directions for sorting out the long shots from the no shots by reviewing a company's financial statements and by identifying which numbers really count. He explains how to stalk tenbaggers and lays out the guidelines for investing in cyclical, turnaround, and fast-growing companies.
Lynch promises that if you ignore the ups and downs of the market and the endless speculation about interest rates, in the long term (anywhere from five to fifteen years) your portfolio will reward you. This advice has proved to be timeless and has made One Up on Wall Street a number-one bestseller. And now this classic is as valuable in the new millennium as ever.

The most famous book from the legendary investor .......2007-10-16
This was the book that catapuled individual investing. He teaches you how to beat the market just by keeping your eyes and ears open.
Unfortunately, most investors don't follow his rules.
A reread for those who have questions about their returns.
This book is the Bible for investing!
Teaching From a Master.......2007-10-12
(This is a review of the full-sized edition, not the ill-advised miniature that has garnered so much negative comment.)
Why listen to Peter Lynch? He's one of the greatest stock market investors of all time. From 1977 to 1990, Lynch managed the Magellan mutual fund for Fidelity Investments. The fund's assets increased more than 2,700%.
Is that a lot? It's like Barry Bonds hitting 200 home runs in a season. It's a staggering achievement, unlikely to ever be duplicated.
There is a small industry of financial advice out there from people with no documented success. Lucky for us, Lynch decided to share his methods.
One Up on Wall Street puts stock picking skill into the minds of everyday people. The book is written in a breezy, accessible style that non-financial types will appreciate. Lynch also gives a glimpse at his life at Fidelity during his tenure running Magellan.
Stock picking is an art. Lynch delves into the intuitive side of investing. It's not all about financial statements and balance sheets, although he gives you a quick rundown of those too (Chapter 13: Some Famous Numbers). The book has more ideas per page than any of the several stock market books that I have read.
Information overload can paralyze the mind of a stockpicker. If you're not a data type of person, stock research can make your head explode. Lynch spells out a way to find good investments without suffering brain damage.
To use a food analogy, he doesn't give you a recipe, he teaches you how to cook.
Must Read for any new Investor.......2007-08-08
I've been looking for more information on how to invest into this stock market. This book was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Not only did it help me figure out what kinds of companies to keep my eye out for, it also gave me ways and formulas to check out to verify if the stock was a good buy or not. I highly recommend this book!
THE SMALLEST BOOK EVER.......2007-07-31
This is a MINIATURE book. Literally. 3 inces x 3 inches, "95 pages" with 30 or 40 big words on each page. Ridiculous. I can't believe such a thing was manufactured.
Good start for investing basics.......2007-07-15
Excellent primer for how to consider investments from a qualitative perspective, rather than the number crunching quantitive perspective put forth by so many other writers. Peter Lynch demonstrates how amateur investors can have an edge on Wall Street professionals through our day-to-day interactions with businesses.

Book Description
The dollar is in trouble. It has fallen against other currencies for the past three years, and now its orderly retreat could well become a rout. This spells potential disaster for the American economy—and potential riches for a few smart investors. In The Coming Collapse of the Dollar and How to Profit from It, financial gurus James Turk and John Rubino show how the dollar arrived at this precipice, why it will plunge, and how you can profit from the resulting financial crisis.
The U.S. today is the world’s biggest debtor nation, printing money with abandon to sustain the illusion of prosperity. The federal government owes $7 trillion and its debt is soaring. As a society, we owe more than $37 trillion, or about $500,000 per family of four. Our trade deficit with other countries is staggering, and to finance this mountain of debt we’re flooding the world with dollars. The inevitable result: The dollar will decline until it is displaced as the world’s dominant currency. Precious metals will soar in value, and gold will reclaim its monetary role at the center of the global financial system.
Traditionally a haven during times of uncertainty, gold has risen dramatically since 2001. By the fall of 2004 it was up by nearly 50
%, at over $400 an ounce. But this is just the beginning.
James Turk, a leading gold authority and the founder of GoldMoney.com, and veteran financial writer John Rubino, show readers how to capitalize on gold’s dramatic climb. In The Coming Collapse of the Dollar, Turk and Rubino reveal which stocks and bonds will falter as the dollar declines and why that decline is virtually inevitable. They offer strategies for using gold coins, gold stocks, gold-based digital currencies, and other hard assets to create a profitable portfolio. And they explain how to make the most of your gold and other precious metal holdings, identifying the opportunities and pitfalls of buying gold mining stocks and the mutual funds that invest in them.
America’s debt binge has put its economy at grave risk. The value of the dollar is falling; many stocks are once again wildly overvalued; and bonds, tied to an ever-diminishing dollar, are a disaster waiting to happen. By investing in gold and other hard assets, Turk and Rubino explain how you can protect yourself from these dangers.
The Coming Collapse of the Dollar and How to Profit from It is a must read for every investor, whatever the size of his or her portfolio.

Ignore this book at your peril.......2007-01-11
Our financial survival and prosperity depend on properly structuring our investment portfolios. Can you afford to idly stand by and witness evaporation of the purchasing power of your dollar-denominated paper assets? It is still time to protect the remainder of your assets by converting much of it to the wealth of ages, gold. Gold is wealth in itself, independent of debt and empty promises. This is no idle speculation, this is a concrete actionable set of plans suitable for different individual situations. You could spend 20+ times more on a financial consultant and still not receive this vital advice. Do yourself a favor: buy, read and act upon this book. Then share the message with your loved ones.
Read it!.......2007-01-07
Another great practical book on economics and investing for the common man. I learned so much about how things are now in America from this book. I recommend it heartily to anyone who wants to know more about gold, fiat money, the mess this country is in, and the doom that awaits us.
Coming collapse of the $.......2007-01-06
awesome book...I read it right after "Hot Commodities" by Jim Rogers...awesome book as well...US has alot of problems with the greenback and its possible demise as the worlds reserve currency...Jim has been talking about this as well for some time and is certain that the US will lose this status as the govt. busily prints money at will....devaluing the $ and killing its value, creating the real inflation problem...the book is very comprehensive in its argument and insightful in its recommendations...fast read!
Good Introductory Text.......2006-11-11
Overall, the author presents the case for a dollar collapse in moderate detail. Using gold as a protection mechanism is also well laid out. For the novice in this field of investment, which seeks to understand major economically destructive change before it occurs, this book does lay out the potential dollar problems nicely. For the more advanced student, there is not much new information here.
Book review of the coming collapse of the Dollar..........2006-11-10
It was quite informative but since we are in late 2006 it was a little outdated as they are comparing Gold prices from 2 years prior. But it was right on the money because as of their writing this Gold did rocket up to $600/oz from $300/oz so they were correct in their analysis. Very good read. I recommend it.

Impressionable, but..........2007-08-25
If you are looking for clear cut set of rules/strategy that you, the individual investor, can follow to make money, then look elsewhere. The trend followers solely follow the movement of the price in exclusion to everything else. They identify a trend - uptrend or downtrend - and play upon it. As noted in the book, they react to and not predict the prices.
The methods, far and few, explained in the book are definitely not suitable for me - the retail investor. First of all, I don't have access to a trading system that can follow the rules outlined. Second, I am not a trader in the strict sense myself, where trades are triggered by a system without me realizing what is happening. To perfect such a system would take me ages given that investing isn't my main bread winner. This book will pass off as a great text book in the annals of the Ivy League schools, but when it comes to making money for you, the individual investor again, I think you are better off reading the likes of Jesse Livermore, Nicolas Darwas and William O' Neal. Read the Lessons from the Greatest Stock Traders of All Time' by John Boik or any of William O'Neals books. They define clear cut rules that we can all follow and make money. How else would I have made about 80K in the past three years compared to the first 8 years of my investing where I barely made any.
There are a lot of anecdotes in the book - literally, every page has 2-3 of these. All of these may impress, but in the end they are nice to feel scholarly about. If you are a beginning investor, the first chapter -Trend following, all of 22 pages - lays the foundation by explaining the different schools of thought regarding investing. Then there is 55 pages outlining the great trend followers are their performance but never in clear and precise terms or rules what their methods are. It almost feels sycophantic reading about other 'great' beings the way it is written. At last, after reading almost 210 pages, I got to see some system of trading. All these are pretty dry.
This is possibly the only one exception to the many great investing books in my library that I could have borrowed from the library. You will be better off reading 'How to make money in stocks..' by William O' Neal again and again and again.
Not bad, but not very useful.......2007-06-03
I own this book, I even recommend this book. But let me explain the 2 star rating....
While the book is a good history lesson, and shows how some of these guys make a lot of money, it's just not practical advice for the rest of us. I highly doubt that many of us have a billion dollar hedge fund to run.
Also, there are no real strategies in this book.
However, it did get me thinking in a different way. So for that, it is worth the money. (The main thing was to allow for larger swings against your position, allow the market a little more room than I did before.)
I know that this guy sells other products on his website, but to be honest, I don't see them being worth it. Most of this book is about defending trend traders, which is fine, but I wasn't attacking them in the first place.
I have begun to use the 4 hour chart more with his thinking, and I have to say it makes a little more sense. Not to get caught up in "micro-movements" as I call them. But to allow massive 300 pips swings against you on a weekly chart isn't practical for most of us.
So in conclusion, I think it's a good read, but if you get what I got out of it from my review, then it may or may not be worth the money.
It describes trend followers but does not give any sysytems.......2007-06-01
If you want to read about trend followers you can get this book. But if you want books with trend following systems do not waste your money.
Listen to the author's podcasts before you dismiss him based on negative reviews........2007-05-25
I discovered Michael Covel in a web search for "trading podcasts" and find his audio diatribes refreshing, inspiring, offering a real perspective on trading discipline.
A link to the podcast directory is at the turtletrader dot com web site, they are just a few minutes in length and worth your time.
At least listen to the one titled "Understand your emotions", it is worth your time and an important reminder to anyone running any amount of money.
Sometimes the author uses his audio forum to respond to negative reviews of his book, if you are listening for the first time, skip the rebuttal and sample another of his podcasts.
Trend Following: How Great Traders Make Millions in Up or Down Markets, New Expanded Edition, (Paperback).......2007-05-12
Disappointing. Long on theory and very short on practical advice. Not of much use to an individual investor. I would not recommend this book to someone looking for a "how to" book.

Customer Reviews:
Slightly helpful - Maybe.......2007-01-27
The book has a couple good points, and is probably benefical to a novice pre-foreclosure investor, but is not worth the time or money of any pre-foreclosure investor thats ever closed a deal before. Most of the examples in the book 'window dressed' profits on deals by not listing all expenses involved.
Solid information.......2007-01-16
I found this book pretty good.... It definitely spelled out all the details of short sales.... I think for property investors trying to understand exactly what is involved with short sale purchases this book is perfect. The book was written at a level that I enjoyed....not overly complicated.
Review.......2006-08-13
I was extemely disappointed in this book. In the title ........How to Bypass Owners and Buy Directly from Lenders....Yet on page 93 you learn that this is NOT possible as you must have the owners permission prior to ever contacting their lender. I found the title misleading as to the content.
One of my top three real estate investing books.......2006-05-21
This book will help you accurately determine the market value of a property. Looking back, I can take Bill and Chantal's way to determine this and realize my mistakes. There were times I had properties in my hand but was too low on my market value comps. Also what I learned from this book was when to know it is a property for a short sale (less than 15% equity) and when it is not. Did you know that 95% of investors out there, according to Bill and Chantal, will walk away and not bother with short sales? This book outlines the steps to follow the process of negotiating a short sale and have it come out in your favor. Very good read!!! It is hot off the press.

Book Description
"Put your money where your mouth is," came the challenge. So he did. Best selling author, Tony Oz, was challenged by Tim Bourquin and Jim Sugarman, founders of the International Online Trading Expo, to prove that his stock trading strategies work, that he could consistently take higher-than-average returns out of the market. To meet the challenge, Tony kept a trading diary for four weeks, documenting each and every trade he made. The simple story that unfolded turned out to be of much greater consequence than anyone could have foreseen, as Tony chronicled a first-hand description of one of the worst stock market crashes in recent memory. Tony was already into his four-week trading challenge at the peak of the Nasdaq market, just before the Crash of April 2000. Having no idea at the time that he was in the middle of a correction that would wipe out over two trillion dollars of stockholder's equity, Tony managed to earn respectable profits each week, and had only a few losing days. What is truly extraordinary is that all trades were on the Long side - not one trade was selling Short in a rapidly declining bear market. The results of the challenge are detailed in this exciting new book. Inside, Tony tells how he chose a broker, set up an account, and then drew a handsome income from the stock market each week, earning a 56% return on his capital in one month - more than most investors earn in a year. Over 100 round trip trades are recorded, charted and explained in a daily trading journal. Tony reveals what he was thinking and feeling, and he explains each trade's strategy, and his profits and losses - all the while walking the reader through his simple methodology and simple rules. At the end of each week, he ordered a check from his broker to sweep his account, and prevent compounding of profits. After all, Tony explains in the book, Friday is payday."

When You Want to Really Know How to Day Trade Stocks.......2007-08-02
This out-of-print book tells the real story of how a pro day trades stocks. Yes, the price tag is high but so is the valuable insights into the thought process of this successful day trading of Tony Oz during a major market selloff.
Solid!.......2006-09-14
The information contain in the book is worth every penny I paid for. I had been day trading for the last 6 years and the foundation of my trading tool is based on what Mr Oz has taught in this book.
Of course, I have to combined several other indicator to confirm my stock purchase, however after many years this book was published, the method is as solid as ever.
Thank you Mr OZ.
the real deal.......2006-07-14
This is without a doubt the best trading book I own and I own many. After many years of trying to find the perfect indicator that would solve all my trading problems I finally came to the realisation that simple works best in complex markets. Tony proves this using basic support/resistance and chart patterns combined with strict discipline to show how its really done in the heat of battle. I dont believe too many traders would be prepared to take on a challenge like this and put their reputation on the line. A brave man and an excellent trader.
Gut feeling .......2005-08-25
OK, not one successful trader reveals his trading strategy but the Oz is getting pretty close. This book, to me has two things, honesty but inconsistency. The plus is that Oz is sharing pretty much of his trading method. But then again, his trading is inspired by gut feeling it seems to me. (i.e. the support and resistance levels detection) OK, I nearly every time agree on his entries or stops, but still...nah..
I liked his respect for the Ax(e) of each stock.
Oh yeah, whoever tells you his 'gut feeling system' won't work in today's market is a complete moron.
Entertaining to read, still useful in todays markets as well.......2004-03-23
Tony Oz's rare and now out of print Stock Trader book is a truly unique book. This is the only book of its kind to actually show you actual executed trades (good ones and bad ones) over a few weeks time period. Complete with all the problems that will plague traders such as failing internet connections, faulty alarm clocks, etc.
This book didn't really capture my attention as I was first reading it. But an interesting thing began to happen nearing the end as I actually started to feel Tony's "rhythm" of trading. I suddenly felt that the books value went up tremendously at that moment.
Tony Oz focuses on the typical elements you face when trading: entry price tactics, stop losses, classical charting techniques, exit tactics, and psychology. While these topics are fairly widely covered topics in different books, the best thing about this book is that it simply allows you to get a feel for how a real trader USES those elements and distills them down to what's absolutely necessary and what's just textbook filler.
Daytrading books haven't really been published at all within the last few years due to the obvious fact that many traders were wiped out when the internet bubble popped. While many older books on daytrading have now become outdated, this book shows the common denominator in all successful trading, whether it be a bubble or a recession.
