Book Description
Widely practiced by many Fortune 500 companies, global outsourcing has become one of the key strategic imperatives for successful enterprises. Often referred to as offshore outsourcing, services globalization is the next step in the evolution of global trade and capitalism. Top organizations are performing, buying, selling, and transforming services at an incredibly quick pace.
Written by outsourcing and global services experts Atul and Avinash Vashistha, The Offshore Nation presents a comprehensive, balanced view of the rapid growth of outsourcing and its expanding role in corporate strategy, providing a roadmap for business leaders and upper-level managers to plan their own strategies. Drawing upon their vast experience as consultants to Fortune 1000, multinational corporations, the authors help you determine what role offshore services should play in your company, how to integrate the strategy into your overall corporate identity, and successfully manage the initiative on an enterprise-wide level.

- Building a sound globalization strategy
- Identifying the processes that are mature enough to send offshore
- Choosing the right business model for globalizing IT, back office, and other services
- Attracting and retaining customers
- Effectively managing your suppliers
Chock-full of valuable insights and tactical advice, The Offshore Nation is the authoritative primer for global outsourcing, helping companies to minimize the risks and maximize their return on investment.
Customer Reviews:
Highly informative and readable.......2006-07-11
This book provides a great framework for analyzing and determining the why, what, how and where of offshoring. If your organization is considering a shift towards offshoring, then you should find this book very useful in helping you think through the business case. The book does not drown you in details, but still provides a comprehensive overview of the offshoring industry.
Highly recommended.......2006-05-18
"The Offshore Nation - The Rise of Services Globalization" is an excellent guide for companies putting together their offshore strategy, as well as for companies that have already done it but want better results. It beautifully captures the global trends and gives practical yet comprehensive guidelines on how to do offshoring right - things that come out straight from the authors' rich experience in the area. Highly recommended.
Make Sure You're Looking for Info on OFFSHORING - not OUTSOURCING.......2006-05-15
Offshoring and Outsourcing just got jumbled again in the American vocabulary. The Offshore Nation is written by experts on the Indian BPO marketplace. If thats what you're trying to understand, this book is very helpful. If your goal is limited to large corporation, call center projects or transaction processing, this book is very helpful.
For all other areas of Outsourcing, I highly recommend you read any one of the other books who don't confuse offshoring and outsourcing better than Lou Dobbs.
A must read even if you don't outsource or are not in the business of outsourcing.......2006-05-12
Atul's book `The Offshore Nation' offers a very insightful ring-side view of the macro-economic trend towards globalization of services and how organizations and business leaders can effectively leverage this in a global economy for competitive advantage. Atul through his organization, NeoIT, has played a lead role in shaping the sourcing strategies of global organizations and the book is both thought provoking as well as prescriptive. It is a must read even if you don't outsource or are not in the business of outsourcing, for sooner or later, you will be a part of this global economy where work moves to where it gets done best."
A Must Read for Managing Today And Leading Into The Future.......2006-05-08
Speaking as the CEO of Sourcing Interests Group, a major ongoing outsourcing forum, The Offshore Nation hits a homerun in providing practical, immediately useful insight into the many facets and considerations of offshore outsourcing. Clearly this is one of the most important books on outsourcing that has ever been written. I highly recommend it.

Global Marketing Strategies earns high praise for its up-to-date coverage of the field, especially from instructors of graduate-level courses. In addition to the latest research, this text reinforces the importance of global strategic thinking, or the "global mindset," with current examples from well-known companies across Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as both North and South America. Used in MBA program for International Marketing.......2006-04-06
We used this book for our International marketing class and did not find the textbook that useful in that it didn't seem that applicable to "real world" situations. It also didn't really teach any solid techniques. I did not keep it around as a reference book as I do with some other books.
Global Marketing Strategies Jeannet & hennessey.......2000-04-16
I use this book for instructing my third year marketing students who find the case study section particularly helpful. The glossy pages of international statistics make for easy reading. A very good value for money book.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Analytical Framework.......2001-02-06
Digital Marketing is a nice alternative to the current array of e-Business and marketing texts, which typically include anecdotes and pithy comments but little substantive information. The book is a nice balance of good writing and supporting data. The format, which entails having a different leading B-school professor author each chapter, makes the book especially interesting and information packed.
Definitely a text to read if you are looking for actionable information.

Poignant but Wordy.......2007-09-02
Following in the footsteps of the other amazing 'This Business Of...' series of music business based books, this one doesn't disappoint. However, it's a bit wordier than the rest of them; the information is dead on and extremely helpful, but you just have to prepare yourself for the task at hand (which would be: making sense of all of it as you read.) Before you go and buy this book though, make sure you've read Tad's previous 'This Business of...' novel: 'This Business of Music Marketing and Promotion'.

Insightful!.......2004-08-05
Sicco Van Gelder has written the definitive textbook on analyzing global branding strategy. Packed with examples, in-depth case studies and hypothetical branding projects, this book will prove useful to companies entering global markets or launching global brands. From the stunning worldwide success of the Sony Walkman to the dismal global failure of New Coke, Van Gelder scrutinizes the factors that shape a global brand. He issues a timely reminder that local cultures and consumers differ, and that branding must account for local differences in multiple markets. Note that this is a textbook, not a manual. The author explains his "global brand proposition model" in minute detail, which can get a little dense and repetitive at times. While the final chapters contain several useful illustrations of the analytical model in action, this is not a how-to book. Nevertheless, we believe this thoughtful tome deserves a spot on the reference shelf of brand specialists and marketers, as well as the executives of any company that operates in more than one country.
A hands-on advisory guide.......2004-04-05
Sicco van Gelder is the expert who runs Brand Meta, a Netherlands-based global branding consultancy. In Global Brand Strategy: Unlocking Brand Potential Across Countries, Cultures & Markets, Gelder draws upon his many years of experience and expertise to write an authoritative and "user friendly" business guide to creating brand expression, develop marketing strategies and implementations in a global market. Especially recommended reading for business managers seeking to master an international legacy of name recognition, individual chapters deftly cover the importance of brand reputation, affinity, name recognition, the unique roadblocks to making a local brand global, and so much more in this hands-on advisory guide written directly from experience and a proven record of corporate success.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent, though somewhat dry........1998-06-11
Maucher's German precision and often mentioned Swiss pragmatism makes this book a masterpiece in understatement. It is not an entertaining read but rather an informative one. The anecdotes that are such an intrinsic part of similar American writings are not present in this book. While it makes it somewhat dry going at time, it does nothing to detract from the valuable contents of the book. Read it, because it offers interesting insight into the way a European executive thinks. Maucher's statements, both economic and (the few) political, are astoundingly accurate and his social preditctions using economic indicators can only be described as uncanny. In particular his prediction of the current tensions in the Indian peninsula. You may not enjoy it, but one can certainly learn from it.
