Book Description
Bringing together specially-commissioned and carefully edited entries from an international team of the world's best scholars and teachers, the work is divided into 12 individual subject volumes and an index. All of the volumes provide clear, concise, expert definitions and explanations of the key concepts in each area. With entries ranging from extended explorations of major topics, to short definitions of key terms, each dictionary volume has been carefully designed to give both the expert and the newcomer a multi-level guide and reference source to the subject. This will be the standard reference for students, researchers, academics and practitioners in the field of business and management.
Book Description
The second edition of this thorough reference is an invaluable tool for assessing cosmetic products, addressing both the quality of the product and the effect it has on the skin. Since a product's ultimate purpose is to benefit the skin, it is crucial to have an understanding of how the skin works, how and why a product may or may not penetrate it, and what care individual skin types and conditions may require. It is difficult to discuss product ingredients without correlating product performance to skin function. An expanded section on skin physiology and chemical concepts enables the reader to better understand product performance through a thorough explanation of how chemicals and ingredients interact. The various skin types, conditions, and appropriate ingredients for treatments provide a quick reference to address clients' needs. This enlarged second edition contains over 2,000 ingredients including 200 new and updated entries. Expanded information on antioxidants and their stability, new discussion on aging and sensitive skin, and function of SPF and new sunblock ingredients offering full spectrum sunscreen and sunblock for both UVA and UVB rays has been added.
Customer Reviews:
Overpriced .......2007-09-18
There was very little that I found in this book that I didn't find in other resources on the subject. It's way overpriced for what it delivers.
Milady's Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary.......2007-06-27
In addition to listing many standard ingredients, this book also lists botanicals which are listed by their English name with other common names listed right after. And they are cross-referenced. A very good brief review of skin physiology, function, components, structures and layers along with product penetration and testing and skin types and conditions enhance the book. Great for newbies or experienced skin care professionals.
Terrific Resource.......2005-10-17
The beauty business is wonderful, really it is. There are only a very few players that are truely dishonest when it comes to ingredients, for instance, "renaming" common ingredients. This book will help everyone keep it straight. As a beauty and lifestyle reporter, I keep it on my desk.
FANTASTIC REFERENCE.......2005-10-10
I am currently studying beauty therapy and this book is my lifesaver! it is great for reference, general knowledge etc!
Not to bad.......2005-09-13
The first few chapters I would call "Skin physiology for dummies", the science is much simplified, so don't expect to learn much here. However, the glossary of cosmetic ingredients is very decent, I would definatelly buy this book as a great reference.
Amazon.com
A small but surprisingly comprehensive dictionary defining over 5,000 terms. The sturdy binding will hold up to a great deal of travel. A very practical and inexpensive gift for any business person or anyone interested in finance and investment.
Book Description
More than 5,000 terms related to stocks, bonds, mutual funds, banking, tax laws, and transactions in the various financial markets are presented alphabetically with descriptions. Readers will also find a helpful list of financial abbreviations and acronyms, as well as illustrative diagrams and charts. Here's a valuable short-entry dictionary for business students, as well as for office reference and the home bookshelves of private investors.
Customer Reviews:
A Must-Have for anyone having something to do with finance........2007-10-07
Great Dictionary with all the financial/investment terms and abreviations.
The book has become my table-book.
Got confused with wording??? It just takes second to get the full definition.
A++++ RECOMEND!!!
Great reference material.......2007-09-10
This is the best reference for the securities industry. I am new to the industry but in a high level position. This is the book that our Complance officer is using to bring me up to speed on terminology and concepts. Better than a textbook. Just remember that it is basically a dictionary -NOT a textbook - so if you need a textbook I would suggest getting this as a supplement to it.
Great reference tool for your desk.......2007-07-13
I've been in banking for over 12 years and I still run into words and phrases that are sometimes unfamiliar to me. This book has been a handy tool on my desk--colleagues have come by to use it. If you work in banking or finance, or are a student majoring in similar fields, I would suggest that you make this essential to your portfolio of tools that you use.
Useful, small, light...........2007-05-13
It helped me on several occasions. There are, however, terms that are not defined, so I need to refer to the internet for those. Overall, a good deal....
COVERED GENERAL BUSINESS; NOT JUST FINANCE AND INVESTMENT.......2005-11-10
Despite being called "Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms", this dictionary not only covered finance and investing, by cut across every aspect of general business. Its extensive coverage of management, accounting, marketing, advertising, and real estate makes it really unnecessary for anyone who already owns it to be bothering about acquiring any other business dictionary. Also, its encroaching expansion into computer and internet terms is both commendable and valuable.
All of its terms have been revised and simplified, using everyday language. And, a rare combination of quality and low price ensures that the demand for this dictionary will continue to dominate those of its rivals. Its 736 pages, which hold more than 5000 definitions remained astonishingly compact, authoritative, refined, and very concise. It is indeed a true hard-to-beat choice!

Students analyze the requirements of the relevant communicative situation and are then given controlled and free stage practice to develop confidence, fluency, range and effectiveness. Customer Reviews:
How To Communicate Better: Mention That You Need The Book.......2001-05-10
This CD is a companion piece to a BOOK on communicating in business. With the book I am sure it would be quite useful but that is not included with this pricey CD set. Here is a sample of how each track is prefaced:
"Unit 8, Practice 1, Page 68. Listen to a model presentation based on the notes in your book."
This was a randomly chosen example. The track chosen was the second CD, second track.
While I can not adequately judge the quality of the combined CD and book without the book it appears to be a useful set. The set is a fairly basic introduction to professional communications targeted at the newly employed, professionals to whom English is a second language and students.

Customer Reviews:
Outdated.......2007-06-16
Probably the most common reason to purchase this book is to gain information about becoming an independent medical transcriptionist, but I really was disappointed with this book as far as that is concerned. Technology and medicine both advance and change on a daily basis which leaves this book, printed in 2002, in somewhat of a dark age, especially now that the most cost effective, time efficient, and popular way of transferring all sorts of data is electronically.
While there is some good information in this book, I don't think the amount of information that is relevant is worth the price. Most of this stuff can be found on the internet more accurately than in the pages of this book.
Quite Dated.......2005-11-27
Despite being revised in 2002, much of the information in this book is still quite dated. For example, it still assumes WordPerfect is the standard for word processing software, and it talks about upgrading your computer to a 486!! Not sure what they did in that 2002 revision... Given how behind the times the book is, it is of limited usefulness. However, there are some good sections and it is a reasonable general overview of setting up your own independent transcription service.
For all People in Medical Transcription........2003-09-02
I read this bokk, this to to let all you people related to Medical Transcription that this book is great. Has useful material for Medical Transcriptionists. Book gose into details on setting up and becoming a good Medical Transcriptionist. This book is being kept in our library and we will ask all our Trsnscriptionist to read it and but it, as it has useful tips. ...
It's informative but...........2002-11-03
This book can be informative at times but most of the time, I felt like I was reading the book version of the home shopping channel. If you're already a transcriptionist, you don't need this book. And if you're a newbie, The Medical Transcription Career Handbook has more and better eye-openers to help you get started.
How to build a home-based medical transcription business.......2002-06-06
Now in a newly updated fourth edition, The Independent Medical Transcriptionist: The Comprehensive Guidebook For Career Success In A Medical Transcription Business is the definitive guide to pursuing and achieving success as a professional medical records transcriber. Individual chapters address the importance of accurate transcription in the ever-growing health care industry, the necessary educational credentials, how to build a home-based medical transcription business, the ethics of the profession, the nuts-and-bolts of a medical transcription business operation, and much more. The Independent Medical Transcriptionist is a solid, accessible, "user friendly" guide and very highly recommended to anyone considering or presently employed in this important and expanding field of the medical services industry.
Book Description
More than 3,000 terms are defined in this newly updated edition as they relate to banking, banking practices, laws, and regulations. Barron's Business Dictionaries are useful reference sources for business students as well as the general reader who is seeking advice and information on business matters.
Customer Reviews:
Exellent resource.......2007-01-09
I use this in a training class about bank documentation. It is very helpful and comprehensive. It defines terms in concise and easy to understand words. Even a seasoned banker can learn something from this dictionary.
Comprehensive.......2002-09-26
Working in an IT company catering to bankers I bought this book to help understand their lingo. I have to say it hasn't disappointed yet. It is also very up to date the latest IT/banking terms. If you were to read all the definitions in this book you would probably know more than you banker. A great reference. Buy it!
Don't Let the Title Fool You.......2001-08-05
This can almost be considered an inexpensive textbook. It not only defines, but explains the terms in a simple, easy to understand format. Although in dictionary form, it consistently relates the terms to one another so the reader will understand how the concepts interwind. Includes financial and banking terms.
bookisexcellent.......1999-05-25
book should contain all banking terms because most of them are not understood by layman
Clear and Comprehensive.......1999-01-29
Whether you are a novice seeking to learn the fundamentals of banking, or an active professional who has just encountered an unusual term, you will want this book. Each definition is short (only a paragraph or so), but most contain links to other terms, so the reader can gain a progressively deeper understanding of how terms interrelate. I also like the frequent inclusion of dates (e.g., the year a particular law was passed). The definitions are authoritative--based on a number of leading accounting, banking, and financial entities identified in the introduction. It's worth far more than its bargain price. I look forward to the next edition (Year 2000?). Keep up the good work!

Customer Reviews:
Difficult book to use.......2005-12-01
This book and its predecessor are difficult to use. While the information may be good, this book requires a lot of flipping back and forth between pages. The CDs are really, really bad. The persons posing as doctors are poor readers. It's obvious they're reading scripts from the sound of turning pages heard. These persons affect poor accents...one female tried to sound Scottish and kept saying "fart" for "for". One male, who reads as if, at best, he has an 8th grade education with a 5th grade reading level (he doesn't understand commas and periods), is really bad to listen to when he tries to sound Hispanic. Loud crunching sounds and cocaine sniffs by one male and the above-mentioned female sound like delinquent hogs at slop. The very worst thing about the CD and text, however, is in the fact that terminology is not only not found in the text, it isn't found in Taber's, Mosby's, or Stedman's dictionaries, nor in the Merck Manual. I wouldn't recommend purchase unless, like me, you are required to purchase these for a class. I know doctors can be extremely aggravating, but no more so than the "doctors" on the CD and this text!
Excellent book .......2004-11-29
The 2004 Delmar Thomson catalog states that an audio CD is in the back of this book. In order to get this audio CD of dictations, call Delmar at 1-800-998-7498, extension 2687
Page 115 of this catalog says that an audio CD of helpful exercises is in the back of the book.
Excellent as long as you get the tapes!.......2001-09-22
Great book for advanced training. Get the tapes for sure!
Forrest General Medical Center:Medical Term.& Transcription.......2000-04-26
This is a reference book only. You have to call the publisher to order the dictation. Without the dictation a medical transcription 'course' is rather useless.

Customer Reviews:
Unappropriate but comprehensive.......2007-10-10
This is a jargon Spanish-English Dictionary with good coverage of business terms. However, the reality is that Spanish-speaking countries often use different terms for the same concept. To be useful, such a dictionary, in addition to just translating a term to the other language, should offer a brief definition, enough for a person to know if the term means what he wants to say. In the case that different terms exist for the same concept, it would be very helpful if the dictionary specified the country or countries that use each specific term. From the English side, which I am not familiar with, it could be that UK, Australia and the US have different terms too.. A dictionary that did not deal with such realities should better be called a Mexican Spanish-US English Dictionary..
Vastly superior to anything else out there!.......2006-05-10
For my work as business translator I have bought every bilingual English-Spanish business dictionary published for almost 25 years now. Previous purchases included Wiley's English-Spanish, Spanish-English Business Dictionary by the same author, and The Oxford Spanish Business Dictionary. Even though the Oxford dictionary claims to have over 50,000 entries, and the Wiley dictionary 40,000, the Wiley dictionary was in reality much larger.
These were the dictionaries I used the most. The rest I had practically never looked at. For several years these two dictionaries helped me get my job done, but as each year went by more and more terms I needed were not there. Terms such as those in electronic commerce and business theory, to name a couple.
Happily, a few months ago Webster's New World English-Spanish/Spanish-English Business Dictionary was published, and now I have access to over 80,000 entries and over 100,000 translations! Its 2006 publication date insures that it is completely current, and amazon lets you see sample content right on this page. If you go to the Wiley website you can see the entire letter a in the English to Spanish section. I suggest going there and seeing for yourself how much you can find there, and then coming back here to buy it, as it is about $13 cheaper here.
It is clear that this will be the only English-Spanish business dictionary I will need for years to come! Check out the sample content and see for yourself if you agree!
