5 out of 5 stars Essential.......2007-10-20

A book about being a respectful adult, a responsible business person and smart with your money. Every parent should have their kids read this when they turn 10.

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2007-10-18

George S. Clason did a wonderful job gathering information for this book. If you understand the Laws of Success better in parable form, then this book is for you!

3 out of 5 stars The Richest Man in Babylon.......2007-10-13

A small, fun book, this guide to financial well-being is written as an archaeologist's translation of cuneiform tablets. The "richest man's" memoirs take the form of advice to his sons and colleagues. Simple, time-tested rules are easy to remember.

5 out of 5 stars Secret to riches.......2007-10-07

This book is like going to a Sunday school class. It talks about Biblical times and the struggles of people living in harsh times. It also talks about people who want to grow rich and the things they do to become successful. "The Richest Man in Babylon" treated his employees generously and regularly gave a portion of his profits to the poor in his community. As a merchant he was fair and honest and dependable. The story does tell how to become rich and the road to riches is available to any person who follows the simple principles in this book.

5 out of 5 stars Success in finance.......2007-09-23

An inspiring classic, and yet another testament to the fact that human follies and sound advice are timeless. Whether you're a slave in Babylon, or a modern banker, the principles are all the same: pay yourself first, save at least one tenth of your income, look for opportunity, work hard, and be wise in your investments. Passed on for centuries, it is surprising how few people use these maxims, and yet the successful stories are almost always based on them. For the hundred pages that it is, "The Richest Man in Babylon" may well be the most complete financial guide to date.

Book Description

In this short, powerful book, multimillionaire and bestselling author Steven K. Scott reveals King Solomon’s breakthrough strategies to achieve a life of financial success and personal fulfillment.

Steve Scott flunked out of every job he held in his first six years after college. He couldn’t succeed no matter how hard he tried. Then Dr. Gary Smalley challenged him to study the book of Proverbs, promising that in doing so he would achieve greater success and happiness than he had ever known. That promise came true, making Scott a millionaire many times over.

In The Richest Man Who Ever Lived, Scott reveals Solomon’s key for winning every race, explains how to resolve conflicts and turn enemies into allies, and discloses the five qualities essential to becoming a valued and admired person at work and in your personal life. Scott illustrates each of Solomon’s insights and strategies with anecdotes about his personal successes and failures, as well as those of such extraordinary people as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Steven Spielberg.

At once inspiring and instructive, THE RICHEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED weaves the timeless truths of one of our greatest works of literature into a detailed roadmap for successful living today.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Just read Proverbs.......2007-09-13

The book is redundant and contradictory of itself. First the author says he didn't follow Proverbs as a young man then he says because of following Proverbs as a young man things went his way. I commend the author's efforts and I believe to some degree he does live by The Good Book, but honestly I think we all know what the author wants you to do, and what the Man Upstairs wants you to do. I now read Proverbs daily. It is a wonderful thing to do and I've recommended it to many. Rather than buy this book go download Proverbs and start reading. If you are looking for a book that will take you about 3 hours to read that will ultimately tell you to read Proverbs about 100 times then read this book. Thank you for your time.

5 out of 5 stars Dynamic Wisdom.......2007-08-13

This book definitely changes your perspective and causes you to reposition yourself concerning the promises and principles of God.

5 out of 5 stars A challenge with a promise........2007-07-25

After praying about what career advice to give his friend, Gary Smaller offered his friend Steve Scott a challenge in which he promised that if Steve would follow the advice, he would not only be successful, but would be a millionaire in 5 years. The challenge was to read a chapter of the proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters in proverbs, and most months have 31 days, he was instructed to read the chapter that corresponded to the day of the month. Steve took the advice and made good on the promise his friend gave him.

The book is based on the principals/lessons/advice from the Proverbs. It explores the meanings of certain passages and shows how to derive benefit from them. Steve shares some of his own experiences throughout.

Solomon was the wisest, richest man that ever was or will be. Seems like someone worth listening to and studying doesn't it?

This is a book that can make a positive difference in your life.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-07-16

Great Book that discusses the benefit of not going alone but having other like minded individuals around you. Backs a lot of his thoughts/facts with scripture from the book of Proverbs. I actually read the book about a year ago and am currently re-reading it. Great book, great, easy, quick read.

5 out of 5 stars Finances by the Wisest Man.......2007-07-10

5 out of 5 stars god's gift to solomon is scott's gift to man.......2007-10-06

Really powerful book containing wisdom that has withstood the test of time. Not only has everything been written in understandable, down-to-earh language, the teachings of the Proverbs are actually fun to read.

Regardless of your religious believes, this book teaches you without judgement. After completing the book, make a summary for yourself and look at it - preferrably every day - so you will breathe knowledge. And when it's in your system, aim for wisdom.

It's too short to tell whether it has changed my life so far, but it has at least enriched it.

5 out of 5 stars Wisdom, Solomon style.......2007-03-07

If you only real one book this year, this is the one. Steven Scott has found Gold and reproduced it in this book. The first or second chapter took my business to the next level. I had to read it twice just to begin to glean what was being taught. I loaned it to my boss and he bought 15 copies to give to his employees!! Very Powerful!!! There is no other book that even comes close to this profound book.

5 out of 5 stars The Richest Man Who Ever Lived: King Solomon's Secrets to Success, Wealth, and Happiness.......2007-01-19

a great book to read if you want to understand how to build lasting wealth, and are not just out to get rich quick.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest Book.......2006-11-03

1 out of 5 stars NOT worth the money.......2006-08-29

"The Richest Man Who Ever Lived" by Steven K. Scott, I thought, would be a good buy. It was the farthest thing from a good buy. The premise of this book is imparting the wisdom of King Solomon to the masses by way of the Bible's book of Proverbs. That is at least how the book is marketed. Here are my problems with this book. First, there were plenty of good things in the book up to a point (page 244) when he states that he had divided up the book of Proverbs into 46 categories. And then proceeds to tell us that he has only presented 15 of these categories. In other words, he published an incomplete book. And it does little good to tell people, "think of the incredible insights that await you." Hey, Stevie Unwonder, I bought the book to get YOUR insights, not go through the thing myself. I probably should have done that to begin with, because I would have saved myself a lot of money. Second, he doesn't even use the Jewish bible, the Tanakh, for his source, but rather relies on the most perverted form of the Bible, the King James Version, not to mention other xian-dogma-infested version...Revised Standard, New American Standard, New International Version. NO! You MUST go to the original Hebrew for a correct understanding. And if you don't know Hebrew, the Orthodox Union publishes the entire Tanakh in Hebrew and English translation UNTOUCHED. These other so-called translations have had things altered that aren't in the original, so the sourcing isn't even correct. Third, he gets to the point where he says that the only way to honor G-d is by becoming a xian. In other words, he basically says that none of the things he has presented in his book will work unless you are a xian first. And then he gets to sounding like a crazed southern-baptist preacher during a summer-time tent revival. Talking about how Jesus said that, and how Jesus said this. I didn't buy the book to hear what Jesus said. I could care less what he supposedly said. I bought the book to read about Solomon.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, he also says to us that this book doesn't teach one the skills needed to put these things into practice, but you can learn them by purchasing ANOTHER book of his. Get real. Even Deepak Chopra plagerizes himself.

In short, don't waste your time, and PLEASE don't waste your money with this garbage. You wanna know what Solomon said, then read the book of Proverbs itself, instead of giving this revival-preacher-wanna-be any of your hard-earned cash.

Automatic Wealth, The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind-Including:As a Man Thinketh, The Science of Getting Rich, The Way to Wealth and Think and Grow Rich

The Bestsellers on this Book give sound advice about money or how to obtain it. Just shoot to the stars and stay focused on your dreams and it will happen. There is nothing that we can imagine, that we can't do. So what are we waiting for, let's begin the journey of self fullfillment.

4 Bestsellers in 1 Book:

As a Man Thinketh by James Allen

Your thoughts and your dreams determine what you are and what you will be. This little book is meant to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that they themselves are makers of themselves, by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage. Contents: Effect of Thought on Circumstances; Effect of Thought on Health and Body; Thought and Purpose; Thought Factor in Achievement; Vision and Ideals; Serenity;

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles,

THIS book is pragmatical, not philosophical; a practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money; who wish to get rich first, and philosophize afterward. It is for those who have, so far, found neither the time, the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who want results and who are willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis for action, without going into all the processes by which those conclusions were reached.

The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin

The first American book on personal finance, The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin is still the best and wisest money book ever written. Originally published in 1758 as the preface to Poor Richard' s Almanack, this little gem has been through innumerable printings and sold millions of copies to those in search of smart but entertaining advice about hard work, earning and saving money and debt. As the 21st Century charges along and the current economic climate continues to send out mixed messages, Franklin' s simple but wise commentary on the value of industry and frugality resonates as much for us today as it did for listeners nearly 350 years ago. This book is very short, but he gets to the point.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

"Whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve." Napoleon Hill

Be prepared, therefore, when you expose yourself to the influence of this philosophy, to experience a CHANGED LIFE which may help you not only to negotiate your way through life with harmony and understanding, but also to prepare you for the accumulation of material riches in abundance. Teaching, for the first time, the famous Carnegie formula for money-making, based upon the THIRTEEN PROVEN STEPS TO RICHES.

Organized through 25 years of research, in collaboration with more than 500 distinguished men of great wealth, who proved by their own achievements that this philosophy is practical.

5 out of 5 stars Automatic Wealth 1 : The Secrets of The Millionaire Mind.......2007-05-07

This was an excellent collection of similar material. It helps to have them in one volume to cross reference
or to quote a particular author. The size of the book ( slightly larger than the typical paperback ) was
also a plus !!
I would highly recommend this collection.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST classic books on abundance and wealth.......2007-03-29

Where do I start with these books? Classic! Timeless! Must read! I sound like I'm writing copy for a blockbuster best seller. These books are the basis for many of the wealth and abundance work that we see today. Look at all the new material and then compare with these and you will see that the new ones have been updated in language and example, but the truths remain the same.
I believe in going to the source of popular material and especially The Science of Getting Rich and Think and Grow Rich are the wonderful. Both are short reads, but the concepts may have you going back over and over to clarify what seems to be amazing assertions. Take the messages seriously and you may seriously change your life and financial situation!

4 out of 5 stars The Key.......2007-01-04

This audio CD is great for people looking to understand how to increase their value as a money maker in today's society. The principles are great I've already started to develop a new way of thinking, it's really teaching you how to be aware of how easy it is to get ahead in life. Plus it's convenient, I just pop it in the CD player an listen, but the trick is to listen to it consistently if you want change to come your way.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars excellent, basic material.......2007-07-08

Purportedly tales from ancient Babylon, THE RICHEST MAN IN BABYLON consists of financial advice that has stood the test of time in the form of fable and metaphor. It emphasizes saving a percentage of ones income, investing ones savings wisely, staying away from bad(consumer) debt, the importance of insurance, and other common sense ideas that most people do not follow.

The book is written in Old English; In fact reading it seems like reading the Proverbs section of an older Bible translation. But don't be afraid of that. This book is very easy to read. I would recommend for a wise, literate teenager or preteen as well as an adult.

Admittedly, the whole feng shui craze is a little overblown, but when I went looking for a kit to help me understand it, I found that this was the most comprehensive one out there. Easy enough for me--a rookie--to understand, I think that it's the sort of thing that I'll be able to go back to time and time again.

On the other hand, after she decorated our new home, most of it was the way it was suggested. I would suggest to buy something else for your home and maybe a cheaper but more practical handbook.

      Book Description

The original Hebrew title of the book of Proverbs is "Míshlê Shlomoh" ("Proverbs of Solomon"). When translated into Greek and Latin, the title took on different forms. In the Greek Septuagint (LXX) the title became "paroimai paroimiae" ("Proverbs"). In the Latin vulgate the title was "Proverbial", from which the English title of Proverbs is derived.

The authorship of Proverbs has not been easy to determine. Solomon's name appears in Proverbs 1:1, "The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, King of Israel", although this does not necessarily mean that he was the author. It was often the custom to place the name of the King or someone of prominence in writings in order to honour them, or to give those writings more prestige. However, Solomon is often mentioned as someone who has extensive wisdom in the Bible as well as in extra-Biblical literature. It is also said that people came from all over to hear the wisdom of Solomon. The general assumption is that Solomon was a part of the authorship to some extent, but that the book was not solely his work. There are also names linked to other sections of the book, as well as elements of disunity within the book that suggest more than one author.

No wonder the wisest man who ever lived, also became the richest!

Great advice on accumulating wealth, delivered in anecdotal form. I loved this book, finding it very encouraging. Bottom line, you must get started right away!

5 out of 5 stars Better than the original.......2006-04-26

I agree with Top 500 Reviewer Roger Herman. This a a great book for anyone who wants to learn basic principles of gathering and managing wealth. It is told in an interesting story (parable) format that is deeply instructive.

I will always love the original, but the "for Today" version includes investment principles and suggestions that were never mentioned in the orginal book i.e. the use of 401k plans, eBay and the like. I gave a copy to all the kids and grandkids!

1 out of 5 stars Just Buy the Original! Great Idea, POOR Execution.......2004-08-28

I am a big fan of "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clason, I think it might be the only book you need to have in order to become "REALLY" successful. Based on my experience with "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clason, I was excited to read this book because I thought it would be interesting to see if someone could expand or try and bring Clason's ideas more in line with the world today. I was SADLY DISAPPOINTED with "The Richest Man in Babylon for Today" because this book seemed to me more just a rewrite of Clason's ideas lumped together with a bunch of quotes, then new material. I saw few if any expansions off of Clason's ideas. In my opinion this book is just a repackaging of Clason's ideas with a higher price tag. I did not like the author advertising his other books throughout this book.

Every success, money, or personal finance author has just taken George Clason's original ideas in "The Richest Man in Babylon" and repackaged them. Suzie Orman, Rich Dad Poor Dad, "The Richest Man in Babylon for Today " and numerous others are all just talking about George Clason's ideas.

If you are like me and love "The Richest Man in Babylon" and are wondering about this book, look at it in person before you buy it, because you are likely to be SADLY surprised at how little new material is actually here. This book could have been very good but I just can not justify the price considering how little new material is discussed and how many ideas are "lifted" from other authors ideas.

      GREAT IDEA, POOR EXECUTION.

Do not miss the original "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clason.

      5 out of 5 stars Age-Old Wisdom, Easily Digested.......2004-07-05

Untold numbers of books have been written about how to build wealth. They range from the get rich quick schemes to solid advice on investments. Some are so thick or so filled with formulas and charts that it takes an economist to understand them. Some are inspirational volumes that are filled with platitudes and little else.

In this short book, Siegel spins a story that, at times, almost seems like a fable that's come to life. The story centers on two men having difficulty building wealth and a rich man who mentors them to success. In each chapter, the author imparts, through his fictional wealthy character, advice that we all know but fail to follow religiously. His advisees learn from practicing what they are taught and become successful in their own right.

While there are places that the dialog becomes more of a monologue, the rules of wealth accumulation are delivered, illustrated, and repeated for emphasis and easy reference. The teacher-the man behind the curtain of the fictional story-is well-qualified to present this message to his readers. Siegel is a highly successful businessman who functions as an investment advisor and owns two other companies. He knows what he's talking about, and presents the cogent advice in a form that's easy to digest. The story is simple and the presentation is simple.

This book is recommended for anyone who wants to learn the steps to accumulated wealth through savings, building, and investing. It's not a deep volume, just comprehensive enough to stand on its own...and perhaps stimulate some readers to explore Siegel's previous books or other books on investing. The best time to begin this kind of program is twenty years ago, to paraphrase one of the quotations Siegel uses to season the book; the second best time is now. This is a valuable book for parents to give their children, so they can start the process early in life.

      Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Incorrect Author Name.......2007-06-24

Prior review discribes the narrator as being difficult to understand. As another sign of quality, Acres of Diamonds was written by Russell Conwell, the founder of Temple University, not Russell Cornwell. You would think any writer, proofreader, publisher, etc. would have picked this up before packaging and selling a $40 product.

1 out of 5 stars Reader hard to understand.......2007-03-09

The reader has a strong accent and is hard to understand. The quality of this product is very poor. Also, I understood I was ordering an audio CD, but received a CD with MP3s which I could only play on my computer since I don't have an mp3 player. I know these books are very good and have great information, but this version is not the way to hear these books.

      3 out of 5 stars Poor qualily.......2007-02-07

I am not very impressed with the quality of the reviews and the quality of the CD is below average.
I own all original copies of the CD.
