Customer Reviews:
THE best book on trading I have ever read........2007-09-09
I had to get this book after reading such a mix of reviews. I was really curious how it would turn out since reviewers were either raving about it or trashing it.
After reading the 1st half of this book I was shocked to say the least. The first half of this book is worth more than all of the books I have read on trading combined. If someone trashes this book then they are either very new to trading and don't understand the points being made in this book(which I can understand because you have to get some experience under your belt to really appreciate what is being said in this book) or they are looking for a quick strategy they can read in 5 minutes and start making money. For one thing, that's never going to happen anyway.
The trading strategies in this book are very basic, so for newbies that part of the book has some good info. I was hoping for a little more advanced analysis of trading techniques, but I really didn't need that anyway. The knowledge and wisdom in the first half of this book is going to take my trading to moon.
For the newbies who didn't like this book, get a couple years experience under your belts then go back to this book and re-read the 1st half. I guarantee you, you will want to come back here and write a positive review.
Interesting book with lack in details by very self-confident authors.......2007-06-09
When I started reading the book by Oliver Velez and Greg Capra: "Tools and Tactics for the Master Day Trader", I thought it was one of the better books on day trading. It starts out with the importance of discipline, and the lessons to be learnt from losses. It also outlines the concept that you don't buy from the market, but there is always another person on the other side of the trade that has exactly the opposite market expectation as you.
Then come four chapters with lists of rules: 7 deadly sins, 12 trading laws of success, 15 things every trader should know, and 10 lessons for the master trader. Altogether 44 rules, which don't seem to be in any systematic order. It looks like the authors were brainstorming to come up with as many rules as they could think of, and then divided them up among the four chapters. Some rules contradict one another, some important rules are next to irrelevant ones etc. Also the "Seed of Wisdom" does not help to sum up the rules because it often is not related to the part that it is supposed to summarize.
In Chapter 10 and 11 the authors talk about tools and start out by explaining things as basic as a candle stick or support and resistance. Then they dedicate two chapters to Order Systems and Level II data, and it takes until page 293 when they finally talk about trading techniques.
After having talked redundantly about general things for three quarters of the book, the authors give their ideas of entry, stop and exit techniques. What I missed most in this part is the lack of exact trading rules. Everything is expressed vaguely (e.g. p.219 "you can also opt to keep the break-even stop. This is a matter of choice." or p.322 "Sell at least half your stock if and when the stock breaks below the 5-minute low. ... These are just guidelines. We don't want to be stupid. ... Many traders will be best served selling the whole lot at this point."). This is exactly the vagueness you can't afford as a day trader. I was also disappointed that there was so little variety in the trade setups (just three entry techniques).
So my hope was high that in chapter 17 "How to put it all together" there would finally be concrete entry and exit descriptions. Instead, the authors just describe common chart formations like any other book on technical analysis (and do a worse job, too).
Throughout the book I noted an arrogant tone (p. 317: "Let's assume a master trader, let's call him Mr. Velez."). The authors speak about master traders, as if they were some kind of rock stars. No matter, how successful you are, if you quit being humble, the market can easily take everything away from you.
I am giving the book three stars because it does cover important topics for day traders like discipline, and learning from your mistakes. If you want to read a more effective book, however, I recommend the one by John F. Carter "Mastering the Trade".
Seeds of Wisdom !.......2007-05-18
Tools and Tactics for the Master DayTrader: Battle-Tested Techniques for Day, Swing, and Position Traders.
Velez and Capra give me the impression they have traded before and are not just book writer's. You can learn a few pointer's from this book whether you are just learning or have been trading a while. It covers Candlesticks,Moving Averages, Fibs, Volume and drawing a few trendlines on the charts intraday and daily charts.
It does not go into some of the mathematical lagging stock indicators that some trader's think it might be the "Holy Grail". Those lagging indicators act like delayed instrument gages on your dashboard. Sorry, there is no Holy Grail on WallStreet predicting the future for you... better look elsewhere like yourself. The only "Holy Grail" you will ever find trading stocks is yourself there is no quick fixes to learn to trade stocks it all takes lots of time and practice.
Its to look and observe what a chart's history or footprints tell you with some seeds of wisdom.
I see so many negative reviews here about this books. I am starting to wonder whether those reader's have ever traded stocks or are just rookie trader's learning from their mistakes the first 2 years.
I have traded full-time for years and I can tell you they must be all rookie trader's hoping that a book might have all the answer's for them and their future. It would help them if they read this book a few times until it really sinks in their minds.
This book is a concise,no nonsense approach and covers everything traders need to win consistently.
As a prior reviewer mentioned which I agree...
"The key buy setup, alone is worth many times the price of the book."
Nothing new.......2007-04-18
nothing new, nothing exciting. Everything can be found in books that are half the price. Save your money.
FIVE STARS!!!.......2007-02-27
I would definitely give this book five stars. I really learned alot from it. If you gave it a bad review you either need to go back and read the book again or just skimmed through the book.
and to the person who sid that he "Heard" that they don't actually trade they are wrong and I thought everyone knew not always to believe what they hear. But hey, some people just believe things more easily than others.
and you can't even RATE this book one star because YOU HAVEN'T ACTUALLY READ IT!!!
You skimmed through the book and rate it one star??? WOW. that's all I have to say: wow. I'm not even going to say anything else. and people don't listen to all of those bad revievs out there. It really was a great book and is worth the money. (and so is his newer book)
and to the person who said: "This book TOTALLY rocked. I read it alot because it was so awesome"
YOU TOTTALY ROCK TOO! LOL!
Book Description
Have you ever wondered why you didn't get a job offer after an important interview?
People interviewing for jobs today often fail because they are using yesterday's strategies. They haven't realized that the best employers have changed the way interviews are done, and it now takes a different strategy to succeed.
Competency-Based Interviews shows today's candidates a new, more targeted way to prepare for the tough interviews based on the competencies that the most sophisticated employers are looking for.
Competency-Based Interviews offers you a new and more effective way to handle the tough new interviews so that you will emphasize the knowledge, skills and abilities that you have and that employers need. Most sophisticated U.S. and international employers are using competency-based systems to recruit, interview and select employees. Corporations such as American Express, Anheuser Busch, BP, Coca-Cola, Energizer, Federal Express, IBM, and Pfizer are all looking for specific competencies.
Preparing for a competency-based interview will give you the strategy you need to:
Be selected for the most competitive positions.
Win the best job at a new organization.
Get a great first job or internship.
Be chosen for that critical promotion in your current organization.
Take control of your career path.
Increase your salary.
Get more interesting assignments and more interesting work
Most interviewees don't know how to be successful when they are being interviewed by an organization looking for key competencies. Few candidates answer questions so they demonstrate their own critical competencies.
Competency-Based Interviews will teach you what you need to master this tough new interview style and give the interviewers the answers that will win you the job.

Competency-Based Interviews.......2007-09-21
I am out on the job market after a 25 year career at GM. While I interviewed and hired employees, there is nothing quite the same as your own job interview. This book is a must for anyone wanting to brush up on their interviewing skills.
A Must for Targeted Selection/Compentecy-Based Interviews.......2007-06-28
This book is a must if you have a targeted selection or competency-based interview in the near future or if you are planning to change jobs in the near future. In fact, even if you don't plan on searching for a new job within a year, I still recommend this book due to the planning advice it gives.
This is by far the best all-in-one book for targeted selection or competency-based interviews. Ms. Kessler is an excellent author and she breaks down the process on how to prepare, how to perform during the interview, and how to follow up after the interview.
Great for landing interviews.......2007-06-16
After re-writing my resume using the competency format, the interviews started pouring in! Good examples and guidelines. Have organized all my competencies and interviews are much easier.
Also recommend the full book on writing interviews.
Excellent book with very useful advice.......2007-04-07
I loaned my copy to two friends going to interviews for big jobs.
Both of them raved about how this book put them in to a fame of mind that made them very comfortable going into and during their actual interviews. It makes you think about questions and areas of your past work expereinces that you should and should not talk about and how to talk about them. Great buy.
Effective, simple and to the point.......2007-04-06
The author carefully gives you the information to help you prepare for your next interview, even if the employer is not conducting a competency based interview. I have had three interviews in the last two weeks and two of three employers used competency based interviewing techniques. I was fully prepared and unsurprised. The book is also simple to read and provides you with summaries that help bring it all together. Additionally, the book gets to the point. I was examining my competencies in the first chapter. The book is also helpful in that it provides case studies that help improve your responses.

The original Master Key System writings, available only through referrals from one person to another, were a closely guarded secret in Europe for decades. They were considered essentially secret wisdom teachings amongst primarily only the very wealthy. In 1912, Charles F. Haanel published this body of knowledge as a work which he presented as The Master Key System. This material was distributed as a weekly correspondence course in Twenty-Four parts, including a transmittal letter and questions and answers. In addition to the complete 24 part Master Key System Donald Gordon Carty has added sections like; Reflection (which will serve as time markers), Hourly Helps(which will instruct you on how to handle the things which wear soul, spirit, and body almost to the snapping point), a section entitled Interpreting the Word and an explanation of The 12 Universal Laws. This book contains the secret to all you need and want out of life; Health, Wealth, and Love.

More People Should Read This.......2007-05-23
This book is one of the best books that I have ever read.
If you find yourself cutting people off mid-sentence, finishing their sentences or not even listening to what they are talking about and just thinking about what you're going to say next. This is a must read for you.
Listening is one of the greatest & easiest skills you can learn and this book really opens your eyes to why it is so important to implement into your life.
listening for success.......2005-10-05
The sender charge the money to my account and never got the book. Terrible customer service, I did writte them an e-mail which was never answer.I am very, very disapointed if it was another rate I would give them minus 10.
Sage Advice.......2003-03-28
This book reminded of the importance of great listening and motivated me to improve my listening skills. It is a short book, but that is because the author get's to the point quickly and makes it clearly. Bravo!
Fresh insights on a vital life skill.......2003-02-17
I was expecting platitudes -- or at least a rehash of all the advice I've ever heard about the importance of listening. Instead I found a fresh voice, a different angle, and a neat, concise, well-packaged message. In very few pages, the author painted a crystal clear picture of WHY I need to be a better listener and then went on to tell me HOW to accomplish it in a way that I felt empowered to immediately go out and do so. This book rises to the top of self-help/business literature because of the author's wonderful language skills and keen insights. It is important because it speaks of a skill that is important for ANY relationship, personal or professional.
A great book!.......1999-10-18
Shapiro outlines the forgotten truth about how effective and productive communication takes place. What he suggests in his book is obvious and seemingly simple methodology, yet not easy to carry out. This book is a wonderful reminder of how important it is to ask and listen rather than to talk and talk more and challenges the reader to become a more caring and effective listener when dealing with the many relationships in one's life. I highly recommend it!

Sell Yourself teaches individuals, from all walks of life, to sell and promote themselves in all types of job interviews.
Customer Reviews:
Sell Yourself. The title says it all........2006-12-18
I just had to write a review of this wonderful book after seeing the totally erroneous and misleading review that was posted here about it. I used this book to get a great job.
Let's be honest and give this book and the author a fair shake. The title says it all, "Sell Yourself: Master the Job Interview Process." That's pretty plain. The author mentions that there are many books on writing resumes and searching for jobs. She has focused on what she feels is the most important, and yet most neglected area of the job interview process and that is the lack of preparation that leads to interview failure. What is that lack of preparation? It is the failure to learn how to sell yourself that causes the interviewee to fail. How do I know this? I wrote my own resume first. Then I hired a professional to write a great resume for me. I studied "resume writing" and "finding jobs" and even "examples of interview questions" and it didn't help me during the interview at all. Why? Because you can hire someone to write a great resume for you and you can even write one yourself. However, when you show up for the interview you have to be able to perform. In other words you really have to be able to "sell yourself" to the potential employer. If you fail to do that, you will fail to get the job.
The book is very well organized and clear in purpose. It provides great information on successfully answering interview questions and winning the job. That's the goal. Win the position!
I say, way to go Jane Williams. You have given thousands of people very sound selling advice and explained how to use it to get the job of their dreams.
Just overrated.......2006-12-09
This book is just a collection of salesman techniques. The first chapter devote to resume writing are just a plain waste. They don't even scratch the subject and you would be better getting a book dedicated to this topic.
As for the rest, I found the content lacking of a strong organization. The author is clearly relating to her experience in the health care industry. This is why I think that the title is misleading. There are many other books on this subject and I think you can safely pass this one without missing anything important.
Not recommended given the abundant literature available on this subject.
Amazing Insight Into the Job Interview Process.......2006-07-08
As a manager who has interviewed many people and who thought of myself as something of an expert on interviewing, I found that there was still much for me to learn. Before I applied for a promotion I thought I would pick this book up because it was inexpensive and it promised to give more than the typical "resume writing, cover letter and tips on networking" slant. I did not think that I was likely to get much from it. I was so wrong!
This is a truly amazing approach to the job interview process because this author happens to be an excellent sales person. She teaches the reader through examples and explanations exactly how to sell themselves during an interview. This is the critical performance part of the interview. The very reason I bought the book was because I was curious AND because I have caught many an interviewee off-guard and made them squirm uncomfortably during an interview.
I work in a financial servicing industry and not in sales at all and this book helped me to perform well enough during the interview that I received a promotion competing with a person that I thought would surely be promoted over me. My boss stated how impressed he was with my preparation and my interview and how surprised he was because he had not seen that side of me. If you can only buy one interview book, buy this one.
Decent book.......2006-04-13
The subtitle reads "Insider's Guide to the World of Pharmaceutical Sales" (enlarge the pic). Most of the book is focused on how to get a job in sales, specifically, pharmaceutical sales. It probably won't do too much good to someone who is a totally different industry.
Other than that, the book contains few good tips for both seasoned pros and recent graduates and is written in a clear and understandable way. It is worth its price but is not a jewel.
Concise - A must have!.......2006-03-20
Well written and very up to date. I have been on several interviews and this book really explains some of the challenges we face in the interview process. This book helps to characterize many aspects of the questions you face in the interview process. How to over come very sensitive work problem issues that you need to disclose in the interview and hiring process. I highly recommend buying this book before going out to meet your prospective employer.

Vision Mapping Process Alone Is Worth It........2007-04-02
After reading this book, I decided to purchase the DVD and workbooks. The DVD's put the same information out as the book, but Steve Scott's workbooks in the DVD's are well worth the investment. I have done "vision mapping" a couple of times in my life and to accurately state it from my point of view, the process works. Suggest you read the book before investing in the DVD's. And if you invest in the DVD's you can get re-conditioned sets directly from Steve Scott's company on Ebay for less than half of full retail, which is what I did. The only serious criticism I have of this is Steve Scott's on-going running commentary using a Porche Carrera as an analogy for what doing the program can do for you gets old and is a bit corny. Then again, Steve Scott teaches you to thrive on criticism! Good stuff if you use it!
Fifteen sharp strategies for success.......2007-03-16
Steven K. Scott takes a while to get to his message as he reiterates what he will present and how he struck it rich after failing in his first eight jobs. While his advice is good, if sometimes familiar, you have to be a bit patient to find it since his 15 sharp success strategies aren't always his chapter headings. He offers techniques for turning your personal vision into a reality, and includes numerous anecdotes about how famous historic figures achieved their goals. He also provides useful worksheets, comparison charts, summaries, definitions, steps, actions and goals. Scott tends to repeat examples and spotlight his own achievements, so this is a bit extended, but we find that his detailed case histories and solid counsel carry the day.
The book vs dvd/cd product on tv.......2007-03-02
Just in case anyone was considering trying/purchasing the dvd program on tv, the book has the same info - beware. So, you can pay the $20-30 for the book and read the info yourself or you can pay $600 for the dvds/cds, journal and 2 workbooks and basically have him read it to you. Besides that, the 30 day trial offer actually expires in just under 30 days (calculated from when you are billed not from when you receive the product as the reps tell you). So you will be billed for the first installment within 30 days. Please be aware of that.
The info is decent but very little of it is something original. If you are brand new to the "how to be successful" quest then there is helpful info such as vision mapping and how-to's of communication. Otherwise, if you already know how to write detailed goals and communicate your ideas the material might be a good refresher for you - therefore put into practice what you already know.
Scott can make you rich.......2007-02-17
Another great book by Scott. In this book Scott uses lessons from great like Thomas Edison and Ford to illustrate how persistent, singleness in purpose, and goal driven effort--applied to acquiring wealth--rules the day. I also recommend his book "Millionaire's notebook."
You may want to read similar books on creating wealth, such as "Think and Grow Rich," by Napoleon Hill and "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth," by Phillip Collinsworth.
Timeless strategies that could be better written.......2007-01-19
Is it just me or did he just rewrite another older book and give it a new name? While there are many classic lessons that he tries to teach that would be invaluable to anyone, his egocentric nature tends to discourage the reader. The book is as much of a biography of himself and his achievements and just how wonderfully rich and successful he is that it takes away from what actually are some worthwhile lessons and strategies that really have been used by many "super achievers" throughout at least modern times, if not history as he proclaims.
Book Description
The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles & The Master Key System by Charles Haanel
The Science of Getting Rich
THERE is a Science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches; once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man, he will get rich with mathematical certainty.
The Master Key System
Charles F. Haanel was a successful business man who discovered that spiritual life is a key to success in everything you do. He proved that what is happening outside is in a direct relation to what is taking place in your consciousness. When the Master Key was published, it was one of those books that successful business men wanted out of the market. They didn't want people to read this book as its truths would help anyone to overcome limitations. He explains in very plain language how to create your own world according to your own desires in accordance with your level of discipline in attaining your goals. The rumor is that when Bill Gates was just a student, he read this book and utilized its truths. Rest is history.

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles AND The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel.......2007-08-31
Surprisingly, this book has many spelling errors and grammatical errors within its pages. I am shocked that an editor/publisher did not catch these.
Other than that there are some areas of use.
Two Miracles For The Price of One.......2007-08-23
Anyone who has heard about The Secret is bound to ask, "how does this law of attraction really work?" While I truly enjoyed Rhonda's ability to re-market this ancient science for the post millenium audience, I can see why a lot of people are skeptical. If you really want to know the ontology or scientific methadology behind this law, you must get these two books. Rumor has it that the line in the movie " my daughter gave me these books...I had no idea they would change my life" (something to that effect)----the books she is refering to in the movie are these two books.
Whether you are a fan of the secret or a doubter---these two authors are worth reading.

Customer Reviews:
More than just prayer.......2007-10-18
I read this book quite some time ago and it's one of the handful of books I've continued to use routinely. The methods that are taught are very helpful for people who tend to be visual, like myself.
In fact, the one "problem" I seemed to have with prayer, was that I couldn't see it - there was nothing tangible to keep my eye on. But I noticed that once I began using the system outlined by Robert Schienfeld in this book, I feel much more confident in what I ask the Universe to help me with and much of what I've requested - whether significant or minuscule has come to pass. For me, it has been like prayer on overdrive.
I created a simple template in Word that I fill out every time I have a request and put it into a binder. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it certainly works well for me.
The best advice I can give is to try the book for yourself and see what happens.
Have a talk with your Inner CEO.......2007-06-12
The 11th element is about tapping into your Inner CEO, aka your intuition, and accessing the invisible network for guidance and success in your life. Techniques include naming your Inner CEO, and communicating by talking and writing letters to your 'IC' and stating what it is you think you want or need based on the limited perspective of your concious mind, and if that's not in line with your inner CEO's plan for you, then you ask for something even better. This explains that even though we are mostly unconcious of it, our Inner CEO is constantly working, orchestrating and planning behind the scenes on our behalf.
The author gives a plethora of examples of famous successful people who have made it to where they are because of listening to their Inner CEO.
I listened to this book on cd, and enjoyed it. Listening to John McDonough's narration of this with his softened scruffy voice made me feel like I was sitting down listening to God give me advice. Although I enjoyed the cd, I think that having the book would be more helpful in that you could go back and re-read or highlight certain areas that are of interest and especially for reading over the author's sample letters. It's good to have on cd though, for when you're traveling maybe to and from work so that you can absorb the information.
Nothing new here.......2007-02-03
Same old stuff from the '80s, just shrewdly packaged and marketed. I agree with the reviewer that said "Didn't we used to call this prayer?" My sentiments exactly!
A deeper perspective.......2007-01-16
The 11th Element provides a deeper perspective on the issues than I have seen before. And Scheinfeld provides a practical method for applying this in your daily life. It's great.
I really used the book and it worked.......2006-07-17
It is really funny and you see it again and again with self help books: people review the book, praise or pan it, but never ever tell you if they used it or it worked for them.
Robert Scheinfeld has two books out and a fairly expensive "on line course" that is more advanced. I have only used the books.
I used the 11th element book.
His other book, which I own, is the same thing, BUT the topics of the sample letters in the books are different. The 11th Element is about making money, paying debt, getting jobs and the other book is more about personal growth. But the way you make requests is the same, so once you get the format down, you are fine.
So I would say, buy one book and use it. If it works, buy the other book because seeing sample request in the area you wish to work on helps.
ABOUT THE BOOK
In essense he has you write a letter to your Higher Self or "Inner CEO" or subconsious (SC).
I think ONE of the reasons it works is because unlike other books, he educates your SC how to help bring things about (unlike another school of thought which says that your SC or higher self knows all and can get all).
Though not highlighted, that is what is NEW in this book, IMO.
Using the book, which is really about manifesting your hearts desire and I got a number of things: Women, women, creative concepts, jobs, and a series of outcomes that I asked for.
For Scheinfeld, when you ask: you must be clear and if you do not get your desire answered (having been clear and used his form letter for requests), it was answered anway because you make the request to your inner CEO for what you want, "or even something better". So something not happening, he would say, is for the best.
Some may not like this answer and I find it very limiting. But what I listed above was stuff I did ask for in a very specific way that came to be.
I gave the book to a friend, and she got wealth and reduced gliches in her life.
Reading the book, by the way, is the MOST work you will have to do with his system. So you have to wonder about the reviewers who read the book but did not follow up.
Here is what I did: I set up an e-mail for my inner-CEO. Each request I wrote was a simple, because I cut and pasted out of previous letters some of the standard language I had used before in other manifestation requests.

Customer Reviews:
Networking in Bite Size Pieces.......2006-12-12
I love this book's format - short, digestible pieces. We all carry so many pre-conceived notions about networking, Dr. Misner and Mike & Mike did a great job of busting those myths. My favorite is "Treat people like they want to be treated". Nope, it's a Delusion!
Very Easy to Read.......2006-07-01
I've read numerous books on this topic. This one stands out because it is a collection of stories or essays written by many different successful or famous people. If you've read books by Napoleon Hill, and many others, and found them to be long, drawn out, and going into excrutiating detail (even though they are also excellent), you'll find this book quite refreshing as each author has 2 or 3 pages to make his point. The best part is that it makes exactly the same points as all the others. But because it is easy to read, those points will hit home like no other book.
Coaching by the Masters.......2004-06-08
What a great read! Easy to sit down and read many stories at a time, in a variety of areas from personal growth to business.
The best part is the combined effort of MANY business professionals, sharing success stories that everyone can easily understand and actually apply these lessons to their own life and business.
Learning about success.......2004-06-06
Lovely book which gives anecdotes of those who have risen above adversity and mastered success. Read it along with Optimal Thinking:How to Be Your Best Self (to learn how to master emotions, bring out the best in others and make the most of every situation) and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (to learn how to move from dependence to independence, from personal victories to public victories). The three books together are all you will ever need to be successful and inspire optimal success in others.
Each page a treasure trove of important messages for all.......2004-06-05
Each page a treasure trove of important messages that can truly guide anyone on to success. The stories are wonderful and I found myself taking notes as I read. Having several authors discuss success gives the reader a broader view that just one author's idea on how to "get there". A wonderful book!
