This is the best book I have read on what it's like to turn your writing into a profitable business. It's an easy read, yet packed with real life examples from Michael's many years in the trenches. His honesty about what it takes to succeed is refreshing, and I especially enjoyed the chapter on e-books. A great motivational resource and highly recommended.

Add another book to the list of "must reads" for aspiring copywriters. THE WEALTHY WRITER by Michael Meanwell. I thought this one might be a little different from books by American authors, but found largely, what sells in America sells in Australia.

I found Meanwell's book to be less engaging at times than Bowerman, Bly or Slaunwhite's books, but also found that he went into much greater (and more appreciated) depth in certain areas. For instance, others simply glazed over speechwriting. Meanwell devotes a very indepth chapter to it.

I didn't make nearly as many notes in this book as I did in some of the other similar books, but I can see referring back to this volume on a regular basis. There is a ton of good information here.

Where this book falls slightly behind the previously mentioned authors is mostly in the formatting. In places, Meanwell's work seems crammed and some of the samples he uses have been reduced to a size too small for old geezers to read. These things notwithstanding, I still have to put this book in the "must read" category for the target audience.

I came across this book quite by accident and what attracted me besides the GREAT title was.....the GREAT title...! I mean, who doesn't want to learn ways on how to make more money---even Donald Trump is always on the hunt. I picked up the book and could not stop reading it. It had me at 'hello' and I learned exactly what I needed to do to become very successful as a writer.

And mind you, not just living paycheck by paycheck but it teaches you and gives you PERMISSION on HOW to live WELL. And don't you desserve to be happy and not have an ulcer worrying about money? I hear ulcers are quite painful. It has been a long time since I read a book that gave me the step-by-step guide on how to make a REAL living in writing and not feel GUILT about being PAID for sharing information in print with others that make their lives BETTER. There is nothing sexy about being BROKE as I am sure every broke-back (umm, is that even a word?!..lol!) person will attest to. And both my hands are waaaay up in the air as having seen those days. Good-byyye empty wallet and "daddy may I have 2 dollars!" Okay...where was I?...Ahh, yes... Chapters 11 and 17 alone is worth getting this book. It discusses how to give a powerful presentation, how to make money writing speeches for others, and markets that are WIDE open just waiting to be filled; markets that are quite lucrative and will put more buckets of broccoli and grade A beef wellington dinners on your table than you can eat--even for those of you out there who are gluttonous by nature. YAAAAAA! Sorry, I just couldn't resist. :) I wholeheatedly recommend this book for how GENEROUS the author is in the sharing of information, in the clear steps he gives on how to succeed in the business of writing, and the way he OVER-DELIVERS.

You just don't find this so readily these days as so many blockbuster authors do not seem to care about truly helping the average joe, such as myself, but are far more interested in how THEY themselves can profit off the little guy----me. This author is quite the opposite. He cares about his readers; this is quite evident between the pages and he genuinely wants his readers' lives to be enriched in every way imagineable in the direction of their dreams, that is. Get this book TODAY if you are tired of working a job you hate and barely making ends meet and have always wondered if you can make a money-spilleth-over career out of writing----yes, YOU CAN. I'm on my way...!

I didn't think this book was that great. I am interested in starting an on-line writing business and this is the only book I've bought and read so far --based on these glowing reviews. It did cover many common-sense aspects of writing and working for yourself --but I was disappointed in what it didn't cover: the legal requirements for running your own business and taxes. There was a single line on being a Sole Proprieter. No mention of taxes. No information on websites beyond stating that it would require too much information to cover here and would justify a book in itself. The book focused almost entirely on the author's preferred niche market, writing for companies. Overall I found this book disappointing and dated. If this is the cream of the crop, I shudder to think what the other writing-for-money books are like. This is definitely not a reference book that you will return to again and again.

The Wealthy Writer is an excellent resource for both established freelance writers and those just entering the field. Its strengths are its practical nature. While many such books are written from an academic standpoint, The Wealthy Writer is entirely practical and simple to read. Its other strength is that it covers many different areas of freelance writing and shows readers how they can specialise in different areas. This is valuable for those wanting to know what focus they can take, while it also offers established writers new avenues.

Mike and real estate go together like baseball and hotdogs. He has a great way of getting complicated concepts across in a smooth crystal clear manner. Beginning and established realtors can benefit from this book.
Work through some of his material and just try to not increase your income - I dare you!

Got $50,000 to buy a clientele? No? Then get this book, and get with a real business system in real estate.

Ferry starts with foundations--20 techniques that one needs to practice. Now, I would say only 18 of these are daily actionable. (#2 and #3 are general principles you can check yourself on every week or month.) Secondly, he deals with time management--the bane of the independent contractor.

Third--what everyone hates--prospecting. Ferry prioritizes prospects correctly, in two dimensions: First, high-impact versus low-impact prospecting; second, who to prospect. Now, this book is aimed primarily at people beginning, so its priorities are: FSBOs and Expireds; cold doors (now primarily phone); then---well, pretty much everything else is low-impact.

Let me address some of the criticisms levelled against Ferry in other reviews here. A couple people have said this is old-school. I dunno--when I started, no one told me about knocking on doors as a systematic practice (or using the phone to targeted groups). What they told me about were farming and direct mail (sometimes one and the same, but not always), and of course (and correctly) FSBOs. Door knocking and systematic phone calling are not common and not typical. And they are productive compared to (what Ferry calls) low-impact methods of prospecting.

One critic complained about Ferry's stated ratio, 99 no's to 1 yes, and said he didn't even get that. Well, all taken together, I do a lot better than that. Now, the legitimate aspect of the critic's complaint is this: It does indeed take a long time to get those 100 people. Today. Today it does; it was not so hard in 1993, when this book was published. Today, more homes are empty all day (and yes, I'm aware that a lot were in 1993; still, it is more common today). Today, people have Caller ID and many people screen calls (are you calling from your office? What's your CID say?). Today, there is the Do Not Call list. It is a lot harder to get hold of 100 people today by any method, or even combination of methods. Certainly by door knocking today it's impossible to do, or nearly so--it would take forever, and the critic's complaint about his 8 hours is justified.
So the unfortunate fact is that this book now has to be updated with two things:
1. Put your sphere of influence and past clients in the number one rank. This is something Ferry today advises in his training and coaching.
2. Door knock some--strategically, for your new listings or sales--but make the phone your primary tool. Again, this is something Ferry today advises in his training and coaching.

The fact is, this is an older book, which Ferry has not ever updated. **I am not saying to pass it up for that reason---I think it's still the single best book available on real estate business practice.** He has, however, done other things: He runs an entire coaching business, which is updated daily; and he has written another book, which, however, seems to be available only on his website.

So anent that area of criticism--"Door knocking takes forever and doesn't produce enough live bodies to talk to"--my response would be: That's true, and the answer is to use the phone instead; and furthermore put your sphere of influence and past clients (if any) in the #1 and #2 slots for high-impact prospecting targets; and stay up to date with Ferry's advice by reading his updated stuff on his website. Seriously, he GIVES IT AWAY. Not the coaching, of course, but he has a bevy of free reports, all of which are up to date and golden; and he gives away ALL of his scripts.

Another thing the same critic said was that much of Ferry's advice was like a sleazy used-car salesman. That is flat-out false. NONE of it is like that. There is NOTHING of manipulation in Ferry's methods. What there is: Intelligent questioning to get to the critical information one needs to do business and to do the best job for your clients. Maybe the critic thinks that closing on a prospect is sleazy; I don't know. If he's objecting to closings like "Do you want to close in 30 or 45 days?" or "Would you sign the contract please?" I kind of doubt he's ever going to transact much (wait--he already left the business), because he'll be too embarrassed to ask the client to do what the client wants to do--buy (or list) a house.

The same fellow suggested that you brand yourself. Like I said: Got $50,000 to buy a clientele? What Ferry did for me--I resisted buying his book, or looking into his methods, because I heard other agents telling me (falsely) "he's just a cold-caller" or he was dogmatic or "too salesman-y" (Hey, you know what? I AM A SALESMAN)--first was to show me that everything I was doing in the name of prospecting was not actually prospecting; it was blowing money to get my name on pieces of paper that would get thrown away without a second look or to talk to people who just wanted the two pieces of information and then to get off the phone or out the door: Farming (by mail, that is), floor time, open houses, image advertising, newsletters, etc. They cost a lot of money, and their hit ratio is more on the order of 1 in 2000 than 1 in 100.

Let's talk about that ratio: Look, every method of prospecting has a ratio of many, many no's and rejections to a single yes. But the ones that get you talking to 1. people you know and 2. (harder to do, and thus more important) people you don't know (there are more of #2 than #1), rather than sitting in your office and having some fulfillment house send junk mail out for you, or blowing hundreds (or thousands) on ads that are so unproductive that they can't even be measured as effective, are the ones with a ratio that can actually produce an income. And an income you can keep, rather than spending it all on more postcards, ads, newsletters, bus benches, shopping cart signs...

Now, is the book self-sufficient? No, not today; it needs the updating I mentioned above. And you can get all that for free on Ferry's website. But it is still the MOST useful book on real estate there is (beats Kennedy, Zeller, and everyone). So get this book--it will inspire you, and move you to actual business practice with a likelihood of actual production.

A great book for giving you good solid advice on improving your sales tactics to become successful. Explains steps from setting up a farm to how to deal with clients through Q&A's. Good for newer agents or for a "kick in the butt" for people in the industry that need "regeneration". Suited for anyone who truly intends to become very successful in the real estate industry

I am a voracious reader, and especially read a lot of non-fiction motivational work from Authors like Tony Robbins, Wayne Dyer and Brian Tracy. This book, "Six Figure Incomes: Profit from America's Best Communicators," is one of the few books that has really impacted me in the past year. I have taken so many lessons from it that I have applied to both my work and my personal life. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The dust cover claims this book is worth its weight in gold. Its last chapter, which outlines the 20 steps to earning $100,000 a year, could well make it so. If you buy the book, read the final chapter first. D.A. Benton’s 20 steps are clear and easy to follow. Once you know them, the rest of the book provides excellent supporting information. Benton shows examples of how specific individuals (many of them high-profile celebrities and athletes) used each step to achieve success. This book offers no get-rich-quick schemes. The author advocates a logical, methodical approach to making $100,000 per year. She is so confident that she makes a guarantee: If you put maximum effort into all 20 steps, you will become a member of the $100,000 Club. We [...] recommend this book to anyone interested in making a six-figure income.

I am a real person, and a simple reader. Mentioning the above is simply to claim the authenticity of my review, not some made up or conspired opinion or expression, but a true and genuine review. This is one of the greatest and best books I ever read by far, especially in it's own category. What it's contents cover and how the whole book is put together is a marvelous and tremendous work. I am only about half way through the book and it's definitely my mental coach, encouragement, inspiration, motivation, and secret weapon of all things, already. Some or perhaps many of the ideas in the book are not new inventions, but how the author was able to put everything together in such an excellently constructed order, along with her own professional knowledge, and wisdom surely amazes me. Never before have I heard of D. A. Benton But I have now a great admiration for her and started search all the books she's written. I wouldn't want my competitors at work know about this book but worse is to see all the disgusting reviews written by people who do not have an appreciation for great work. And others being misleaded by those reviews. That's the reason I had to write this. That's how good this book is.

I disagree with some of the other reviewers who said this tape is total trash. It is good for young people just getting into the career market, because it gives practical information to help make sure you are even aiming in the right direction for your goals. It helps give a broad perspective on your career as a whole, not "I just graduated now I have to use this degree somehow." Overall, I say it is a decent book, but I can do without her philosophical digressions at the beginning of the tape about how society tries to make us think money is evil.
