All You Need to Pass Exam and have Abundant Knowledge.......2006-03-03
After studying in Illinois for two years, well I wouldn't call what I was doing STUDYING, I happened upon this book. I saw the light! It is so clear, user friendly and succinct. I feel that I owe the authors something. As you can see, I've crossed a couple borders over to Ohio. Thank goodness the publishers make many many state editions. Never too much of a good thing. The sixteenth edition of this book comes with a study CD-ROM which is fabulous. If you've "studied" real estate and have yet to pass your exam, just take the quizzes over and over until you achieve 90-100% accuracy. That will be soon and you will blaze through the state exam.

Dull and disappointing.......2005-06-11
I bought this book because I am an investor in REITS and wanted to get a deeper insight into comparing different REITs to find the best ones to invest in. I wanted to be able to read the balance sheets of several different REITs and decide which is the better investment. This book left me bored and no further forward.
The main problem is that each chapter is written by a different "expert" on a particular topic such as "Asset Allocation" or "Institutional Investing". Firstly these experts may be great money managers but they are dull writers without a jot of personality. The chapter on Tax Treatment of REITs is a lifeless regurgitation of the tax code. Worse, the editors did not steer each contributor strictly enough to avoid repetition and as a result every chapter begins with yet another review of REIT history.
There was no analysis of different REIT business models, such as trading CMOs compared with Residential or Office space. There is no analysis of how to tell good REIT managers from ordinary ones. I was optimistic about the chapter on Asset Allocation to see how REITs fit in with stock and bonds in your portfolio but again I was disapppointed. After grinding through page after page differential equations the chapter fizzled out with no mention of reccomended asset allocation ratios.
I gave the book 2 stars instead of none because the data seems to be accurate and authoritative but then so is the maintenance manual for my vacuum cleaner. A $75 book has a duty to do more than assemble boring facts in sequence.
I don't really know who this book is targeted towards. If you are going to be a junior paper pusher employed by a REIT it may give you a head start but the rest of the planet should look somewhere else.
An excellent overview of the REIT Industry.......1999-07-17
The book provided an insightful overview of the REIT industry. The book was organized by various topics relating to investing and managing a REIT. The chapters were written by practioners and academics working in the different REIT industry areas. The authors were able to provide vital insights into their areas of expertise. As a new REIT employee I learned about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for my company and the REIT industry as a whole. some of the chapters were a bit technical in nature; particularly the analysis on historical private verses public REIT returns. Overall the book should be required reading for REIT investors and Managers as well.

A "Must Read" for anyone interested in NYS real estate sales.......2007-09-13
Packed with the latest information and extremely well written, this book shall have a permanent place on my desktop along with my other most important reference books. The two-color text does highlight much of the most important information. I personally found, however, that additional highlighting and underlining of other paragraph parts was necessary in order to make concepts much clearer and easier to distinguish (especially during later review). I purchased and read this book in advance of taking a 10-day accelerated Salespersons' course. I now feel confident that I can participate in the upcoming classroom sessions without the worry of having to keep up with the required nightly reading.
very helpful.......2007-01-10
I purchased this book for an intro to Real Estate class I was taking. This book was very informative and upon reading I discovered alot about real estate laws regarding renting and buying that I had no idea about. This book also refers to very helpful websites that the general public has no knowledge about. I definitely can say that because of this book noone will be taking advantage of me! I know my rights now!

Very helpful........2006-11-30
A great book - well organized, thorough, and well-written. Nice that the authors provide a comprehensive outline of key points after each chapter.
HOWEVER...
One star subtracted for failure to error-check the mathematics in the practice questions. The math here is simple; there is no excuse for the publisher not taking a moment to run the numbers through a calculator.
Book Description
Still reeling from her husband's death, thirty-three-year-old realtor Whiskey Mattimoe is adjusting to a new life, which includes the embarrassing purse-snatching antics of her mischievious Afghan hound. That's bad for business, but not as bad as having clients die on the premises. When one of her properties turns into a murder scene, Whiskey becomes hopelessly tangled in a devious scheme involving identity fraud and priceless art.
Dodging a house fire, break-ins, and attempts on her life, Whiskey manages to keep her sense of humor throughout the chaos with help from a part-time police force, her eight-year-old neighbor, and other eccentric characters in the Lake Michigan resort town of Magnet Springs.
This fast-paced, darkly comic tale is the first in a series of mysteries featuring the amateur sleuthing of Whiskey Mattimoe.

Unbelievable Characters - but great fun........2007-09-23
This was my first contact with Whiskey and her Afghan. Mysteries galore keep you guessing throughout. The story moves at a fast pace, with a light and humurous touch. I was left wanting more and will certainly be reading other books in the series.
Great New Series!!.......2007-09-17
I checked out this book at the library and LOVED it!! I'm so happy to find another new GREAT mystery writer. I plan on buying the rest in the series. I donate all my books to the library so eventually they will have her whole series for someone else to enjoy!!
Funny.......2007-06-09
This is a great book. While I love Whiskey and the situations she encounter, I love Abra, the dog, even more. She really keeps Whiskey on her toes. A very enjoyable read, especially if you like "cozy" mysteries.
Great start on an original, suspenseful, and FUNNY series.......2007-01-27
If you have a sense of humor and strong feelings about dogs--especially other people's dogs--this is the mystery series for you. Realtor Whiskey Mattimoe has been saddled with a very difficult canine, and therein lies lots of humor. The setting is fun, too; author Nina Wright has created a quaint but troubled Michigan tourist town that's a blend between Saugatuck and Traverse City, where the artistic types face off against the conservatives. Mix in a steady stream of tourists, and let the fun begin. In this book, the first in the series, the action starts when a tourist dies on a massage therapist's table--NOT from natural causes. Then another tourist is murdered, and--as the book cover suggests--Abra the Afghan hound complicates everything. I can personally promise that you'll laugh and gasp while reading this series.
Great Laugh...Fun To Read!.......2006-11-10
Having several Afghan Hounds that own me, Nina Wright has a wonderful star, Abra the Afghan Hound, who helps solve this mystery as only an Afghan Hound can...with every clever trick in the book. Ms. Wright not only captures the essence of the Afghan Hound but she offers suspense, adventure and a huge dose of humor in Whiskey on the Rocks. I rate it right up there with Pink Panther and Inspector Clueso!

Modern Real Estate Practice in Texas .......2006-03-07
Good update over previous edition. Author added some new material, but took away some from the previous edition. This book will get me through the state exam.
much better than Jacobus's Texas Real Estate !!!!.......2005-04-06
i came across this book AFTER i have finished reading Jacobus' Texas Real Estate. i hoped i have seen this book much earlier and tossed Jacobus into trash bin... much much better...
A very informative, easy read.......2001-01-17
I liked this book because it is well organized and informative. At the beginning of every chapter the author includes a list of key terms; and key words are bolded and defined through out the chapters. In the back of the book, there's a glossary. This book covers the main topics of the Texas Real Estate Sales Exam in a very thorough, organized way.
Book Description
Nearly drowning in an icy lake isn't Whiskey Mattimoe's favorite way to celebrate the season. Neither is finding the mayor dead at Magnet Springs' annual Ice Fishing Jamboree. And then there's the problem of locating Chester, her precocious eight-year-old charge, who has run away. . . or was he kidnapped? This is how Whiskey, an eternally disheveled, mid-thirties realtor, is drawn into another rollicking adventure with her purse-stealing Afghan hound. Other eccentric characters abound in this Michigan resort town, such as the police chief with a gift for tuning into the town's magnetic energy and the adorable vet with an unfortunate speech impediment. Amid the uproar, Whiskey also makes a surprising discovery that-for the first time since her husband's death-she's ready to dip her toes into the whimsical waters of love again.
Customer Reviews:
A hilarious cool read on a hot day!!!.......2007-08-23
I took this book to the pool on a recent 115 degree day. The cover alone helped cool things down. And Wright's rapid-paced tale of kidnapping and murder made me forget the heat. The scene where a certain body slides into frozen Lake Michigan is as thrillingly written as any action sequence I've ever read.
i know this is fiction but...........2007-06-08
I can't believe that an author would write a book about a main character who is so clueless about children. Even though the author creates a very self-sufficient boy, it's the actions of Whiskey that are off-base. When Whiskey finds out through a note she receives from a ex-con that the boy who is in her care is missing, does she start looking for the kid? No, she goes back home and gets drunk and half-naked with her ex-husband. In the morning when the kid still hasn't shown up, does she start looking for him? No, she and her equally clueless employee go on a helicopter ride, where she finally sees the kid being pulled at by a stranger. I know this is purely fiction, but even in fluff like this, one doesn't expect the main character to be that stupid.
Whiskey Wins Again.......2007-02-09
Whiskey Mattimoe rides again (and helicopters, snowmobiles, ice-skates) in this funny and action-packed sequel to Whiskey on the Rocks, and it's fabulous! This time the smart, sassy realtor (and reluctant guardian, stepmother, and dog-owner) finds herself up a--frozen--creek, when a Winter Jamboree complete with ice-fishing and snowball fights, offer a far more chilling event: murder.
Add kidnapping, the return of the ex-con who shot her late husband, the romantic attentions of her first husband and an animal-activist vet . . . plus the antics of the irrepressible afghan, Abra, with her pup Prince Harry, and you can bet Whiskey finds herself in a blizzard of trouble.
The resort setting of Magnet Springs, replete with quirky characters from the (seriously) "magnetic" Chief of Police, to the staff of Mattimoe Realty, and the New Age local entrepreneurs, remain as charming and offbeat as ever--the perfect cast for this great comic mystery.
Pull on a parka, pile up the snowballs (and a few dog biscuits), fix yourself a hot toddy--and settle in for a great read. Nina Wright has another winner!
whiskey straight up.......2007-01-28
I'm always looking for a new mystery series, and I just happened upon this book. I'm definitely hooked. I loved the main character, and I also loved the small town setting. I think the supporting cast was great, and I even liked them more than the mystery. The novel itself is fast paced, and it revolves mainly around Whiskey's lost charge, Chester.
Clever, enertaining mystery that men and women will love!.......2007-01-27
I like lots of kinds of mysteries, from literary to chick-lit. Although this series features a chick-lit type heroine, it's better written and has broader appeal. In fact, I gave copies of this book to several male friends and male family members; they all liked it a lot. The reason? The heroine, Whiskey Mattimoe, is the kind of gal men like. She makes 'em laugh; moreover, she's smart, athletic, and independent enough to earn their respect. This is also a well-constructed mystery with enough suspense to keep you turning pages way past bedtime.

Modern Real Estate Practices.......2007-04-10
After giving up my RE license a couple of years ago, I decided to try and get it back. This is a great book, with lots of information that you both need to know and things that are just plain fun to know. I read the book and used the accompanying CD, tested, and passed on the first try. I'm not sure I could have done it without such a comprehensive book. Highly recommended (but be sure and ask which book, and which version of the book, that local instructors use to teach RE principles and practices before purchasing)
Best study tool used........2006-07-25
After comparing other study guides, Modern Real Estate Practice is by for superior. All the information is in a reader friendly format. The real estate math is made simple. The DVD testing is awesome. I would recommened this study book to anyone considering a real estate career.
Good Study Aid.......2006-03-04
Using this reference guide along with the materials supplied in my real estate class I was able to pass the examination for the real estate sales person license on the first attempt.
I did not give it 5 stars because the CD with sample exam questions that comes with the book is not compatible with MACS - something you don't find out until after you buy it!
Clear, concise and incredibly useful.......2005-07-19
I am a FSBO/investor looking to gain a better understanding of the specific issues. The book provided a practical, no-nonsense approach. A real estate agent friend of mine recommended it since he used it in his pre-licensing class. Nice job!
Short Chapters are a Plus.......2004-04-17
I am interested in the field of Real Estate and purchased this book last year. I finally finished it and I found it to be informative and easy to read and understand. The short chapters were especially nice as you could sit down for an hour (or less) and finish a chapter. I can't comment on how it prepares you for the test as I haven't taken it but it seems to cover all the technical aspects of real estate. It does not cover how to actually convince people to buy, sell, etc. I purchased this book partly on the recommendation of other comments posted here and I was not disappointed.
