Missing One Element.......2007-07-13
The book was very informative but I feel that it left out a key element.
In our area ( Dallas Texas) many of the Latino population perfers to buy a used mobile home that they ca get paid off as fast as possible. Being debt free is important to the Hispanics I've worked with. Many do not like to use banks and prefer to deal in cash. So financing can be challenging. Overall, a very good book.

Breezy enough to enjoy, thorough enough to learn from........2006-10-22
I have been selling houses to Latino families 20 years. What I know, I found reflected in these pages and learned new details of Latino buying habits, family life and demographic distribution. Although the book aims to inform real estate and homebuilding professionals, it is really universal book about doing business with America's largest minority. Read this book, and you will never look at a Latin in the same way again, even if you are one. It's an eye opener that delights and occasionally drops your jaw as you realize the overwhelming impact of Latino growth on every aspect of business, politics and culture.

This book has the answers.......2004-03-11
I like this book very much. Not only does it answer color questions for inside my house, but it gives me color guidance and inspiration for the outside of my house (which is in dire need of a paint job). The photography in the book is lovely . The detailed instruction for choosing colors makes it easier than I thought it would be. This beautiful book is a useful tool.
Very good resource.......2003-09-20
My wife and I found this book very helpful in determining colors for the outside of our house. I learned what was needed to prep and paint the house as well. My wife enjoyed the information on color for our rooms and is planning a color scheme. This book is worth the investment.
Quick and Easy Paint Color Solutions.......2003-07-11
I gave this book to several friends as house warming and wedding gifts. Both friends said they loved the book, but more than that, they were able to get use out of it. One friend found a beautiful putty paint color for the outside of her house. Her house looks amazing with charcoal colored shutters. She is so happy with the result. My other friend chose a color scheme for her living room, dining room and family room. She said the book made it easy. I have since purchased a copy for myself. I'm reading it now and am getting very inspired to make changes in my own home.
It's Got It All!.......2003-06-25
This is a very comprehensive guide for choosing colors for both the interior and exterior of your home. It includes everything you would ever need to know about color, painting techniques, and everything in between. This is the only guide that I will need to accomplish my goals. There is simply nothing about the color selection and painting process that isn't thoughtfully addressed in this book. Plus, the photographs and are beautiful! It's got it all.

Below Average.......2007-07-21
I've ordered a few books on fireplaces recently because I'm building a home. And this book just doesn't display the knowledge or variety of pictures that other books do. While this book makes claim to styles from "Early, French Classical, Georgian, American Colonial, Victorian, Modernist and Contemporary," they are barely reflected in some of the photos. I expected, not better photo quality pictures (aesthetics), but a better selection of pictures (aesthetics). Form, Function, and Design? Not well depicted
History book.......2006-02-03
This book presents very interesting historical information on the development of fireplace styles over the centuries, and the photographs included were inspiring! (If a photo had been provided for every fireplace described in detail in the text, I would have given 5 stars!) Keep in mind this book's emphasis is on the history rather than the 'how to' of fireplaces.
Very few pictures, very few ideas.......2005-05-27
This book is not worth your money. Fortunetely, I got it used. There are no good ideas and good pictures here. Don't buy it.

This book tells it all..........2005-10-25
I bought this book for my young bachelor son; but after going through it, I am going to keep it and buy him another one. It is up to date on cleaning products, and tells you about so many things that most other books of this type don't tell you; such as, diagrams on how to iron, how to sew. It tells you when fruits and vegetables are in season and how to tell when they are ripe. I think it is the most complete book of it's kind that I have ever seen. It would be excellent for newly weds, bachelor sons or daughters just getting their 1st apartment. And it is great for someone that has been housekeeping for over 30 years...like me!! Buy it, you won't regret it!
Excellent book.......2005-08-24
This book is chock full of valuable information, would make a wonderful gift for a newlywed couple or do-it-yourself couple.

From do-it-yourself enhancement projects to inexpensive solutions for potentially expensive problems, 301 SIMPLE THINGS is the guide homeowners should consult first before even listing a property - and any public library lending collection will find it an excellent reference.
Solid Guide to Staging Your House for a Successful Sale.......2007-04-11
Selling a home can be a time-consuming and stressful time, especially if the home doesn't sell right away, or doesn't even get serious bites from potential buyers. There are a lot of reasons buyers might not be interested in a house - the location, for example - that are out of the seller's control. However, there are also a lot of things sellers can do to actually sell their house to the buyer, primarily by making the house a more attractive and compelling purchase. Teri B. Clark's book on house staging, the not-so-succinctly titled 301 Simple Things You Can Do to Sell Your Home NOW and For More Money Than You Thought, lays out how to effectively stage your house to maximize both the number of interested buyers, and the selling price.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, staging is essentially arranging and decorating your house in a way that makes it appealing to virtually anyone who enters it. Think of a window display in a store, or a floor model of a bedroom set, and you will get the idea: the objective is to make the house an eye-catching product that buyers are excited about purchasing. 301 Simple Things...covers the entire process of staging in great detail, from simple do-it-yourself tasks like cutting down on clutter, patching drywall, and thoroughly - and I mean thoroughly - cleaning your kitchen, bathroom, and windows, to more complex tasks that could require professional help, like putting in a new toilet. The overall point that the book drives home is that staging is not the same as remodeling, and should not require installation of expensive appliances or amenities, or major changes to the house itself. Staging is about doing a variety of small, things: painting cabinets, rearranging furniture, cleaning, opening curtains, etc. to make the house more presentable to buyers.
Though the book at times serves as an advertisement for some of the professional house stagers it features in its case studies, the content is actually based around a do-it-yourself type of attitude. It walks you through all the tasks and principles behind staging your house, and gives specific, step-by-step instructions on all the tasks it recommends. If you have never put up wallpaper or painted a concrete basement floor, for example, Clark walks you through all of the details of those processes. A simple carpentry book might be a good companion piece if you decide to stage your house yourself, but the information in 301 Simple Things... is detailed enough that you will probably only have to consult the carpentry book if you run into a problem. Speaking of problems: aside from guiding you through what to do, 301 Simple Things... also covers what not to do, describing problems and pitfalls that turn off potential buyers.
The great thing about 301 Simple Things You Can Do to Sell Your Home NOW and For More Money Than You Thought is that the vast majority of the book is useable content, without a lot of fluff. Case studies, which are essentially anecdotes from real estate professionals, serve to reinforce the importance of whatever topic the book is covering, and its illustrations (photographs) do a great job of showing, visually, how staging can change the look and feel of a house. If you are considering selling your home, 301 Simple Things...is a great read. It provides plenty of useable ideas for making your house a product that potential buyers will get excited about purchasing, and living in. Whether you decide to use the services of a professional, or make improvements yourself using its step-by-step guides, 301 Simple Things...can be a huge asset in your quest to sell your home.
Simply Fantastic!.......2007-04-05
I love this book! Teri Clark has created a gem that is full of fantastic ideas to help you easily transform your house from a home into a product that others will want to buy. If you are selling your house, you need this book. No matter what your budget, you will find suggestions that will bring you thousands of dollars in profits and help your home sell faster.
As a home buyer, I have always felt much more inclined to try to get a bargain when making an offer for a house that wasn't loved than when walking through a house that was presentation ready. Don't sell your cherished home to bargain hunters when you can sell to home buyers who want to move up in the world to something better than they had before! "301 Simple Things" helps you create a living space that exceeds their expectations and ensures that you close the sale at a price that's right for you.
"301 Simple Things" is also great for people who simply want to live well. With a few simple tasks, you can create a beautiful environment that is a both a haven and a place to entertain and enjoy. Don't settle for good, read the book and see how easily you can make your house a great place to live.

Customer Reviews:
The best stone masonry book in my collection.......2004-04-19
Probably the best book I own on stone masonry. I bought a lot of stone-masonry/stone-scaping books over the past 5 years and most of them do not come anywhere close. These books have a good chapter or two, or maybe some good photography, but most of them fail in one respect or another. Reed's book is very good throughout and is very suitable for both beginners and pros. An excellent section on tools and basic techniques. Detailed chapters on free-standing walls, retaining walls, single/two-faced walls, dry-stack/mortared, hidden-joint/visible-joint, dry/wet paving. The author could probably improve the book (for the beginners) by adding a chapter on stone types with good pictures illustrating the various types of stone as well as examples of walls with different stone/technique combinations.
Anyway, I own most of the other books listed on the "Customers who bought this book also bought..." page and this is the one to get. Overall, if you plan on getting involved with stone you should own this book.
Perfect!.......2003-01-02
As a landscaper and stoneworker I have found this book inspirational and informative. Full of new ideas and the full color photos present works of art that can be followed just by viewing their example.

Thank the powers that be!.......2007-05-20
Hello! I am an idiot! Yes, a real idiot! As an idiot, I had a problem: I had a can of old rusty nails, some old LP record albums, a Hummel that had been broken and glued back together several times, and some other assorted stuff that I wanted people to give me money for! Imagine that! Sounds impossible, you say? Well then, buy this book! It showed me how, by placing these items in my garage, and hanging a sign that read "Garage Sale", people would drop by and do just that. Yes, it is true! At first, I was hesitant to have a "Garage Sale", because I had no intentions of selling my garage, but this book said that it was OK to do so, and now I am $12 richer. BUY THIS BOOK, and you may find yourself $12 richer as well.

I have 3 similar books and this one has served me the best........2006-03-26
Yes, as I said in the title I have two other "how to fix everything in the house" books (Black and Decker and Home Depot) and I have found this book to have more detail, more accurate advice and, in real world work around the house, the better resource for all topics. However, like the news, it is good to get your from multiple sources. So, if you want one book for this information or you want a collection, this book would be my first pick/recommendation.
Sweating pipes, running electrical, fixing roofs, insulating, patching walls, working with mortar and cement... I, a real klutz, have done it all successfully thanks to this book!
This is an awesome guide to DIY stuff around your house.......2004-08-06
I loved this book. I did not know anything about how to fix things around the house and what tools to use etc. This book helped a lot in understanding types of jobs, what tools to use, time and process and materials required.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get his hands dirty doing some work around the house and dont know where to start.

Informative.......2006-04-30
This is a great book to introduce the topic of building strawbale, cob etc. homes. The wonderful point about it is that it details the pros and cons of each building style and lets you compare each method carefully so that you are able to next select a more detailed book about a particular style.
It has beautiful colour photos and lots of information. Highly recommended.
Good Book about Good Houses.......2005-12-22
Isn't it nice to dream of being able to build your own home...especially an environmentally "friendly" one!? I am learning so much about houses in general from this book, let alone alternative building. It is well written and has beautiful photography. My husband & I may never get to build our own home (or we may!) but we can sure enjoy the dream in more vivid detail because of this book. I think it should be required reading for politicians, city planners & the like!
Among the best of books.......2005-11-21
Superlative well-balanced, insightful, entertaining, stimulative text, superlative graphics/layout with an abundant and marvelous and beautiful and very effective array of color photographs, superlative resource section, superlative physical book quality including stay-open binding.
If you're thinking of building a house or if you're interested in alternative housing possibilities (solar, etc.) or if you're interested in the topic of housing in general or if you'd like an ideal coffee table book, you will probably find this book a delightful fulfillment.
(Thank you, Amazon, including reviewers, for helping me to discover this book.)
Tremendous book .......2005-05-19
Very comprehensive book which expertly and clearly details the differences between natural/sustainable methods and ideas versus conventional methods. The book makes an incredible cases for natural building and the philosophy of sustainability. After reading this book its hard to understand why you wouldn't want to build a house this way. On a personal note, this book has been inspirational to me as an undergrad student trying to get into an architecture school and train to be a sustainable architect. Also I'm coming from a traditional carpentry background and know that the things Clarke Snell is writing about are right on the money.
Likeable, Readable and Profound.......2004-06-08
Okay - so I've never thought about the actual mechanics of building a house nor about the choices that allow us to enjoy the beauty of the planet without doing it harm. My concerns have usually been of the strict ly visual - I am an artist . This book is almost startlingly good - Clarke Snell has managed to stimulate even the most laissez-faire amongst us to pay attention to laws respect ing our environment and combine them with our desires for beauty and comfort not only for the past but indeed for the future.
