“There’s definitely more to this book than just how to use Expression Web. The chapter on tag properties not only clearly explains Expression Web’s Tag Properties task pane, but it also alleviates some of the mystery behind the use of tags in HTML. This is a great book for all users of Expression Web!”

Beginning Expression Web.......2007-10-20
Not a good book for beginners trying to use Microsoft's Expression Web. Expression Web replaces Microsoft's Front Page. Expression Web is a big step from Front Page, you are bombarded with CSS, WPF, .NET, ASP etc. This book needs to start off with step by step instructions, there is a lot of reading in the first chapters, before you have a chance to actualy "do it". The book itself says it is for Intermediate to advanced users. Looks like a good book for intermediate to advanced, but I am not there yet, I will keep it until I feel like I am an intermediate user.
Brilliant!.......2007-10-03
I've used FrontPage since its first release and never came close to learning all it could do. The thought of moving into Expression Web was scary, and after installing it and looking at a blank site, I thought I'd have a heart attack. Last night I bought this book, and the veil lifted. I've since imported a site, followed the book, and am now on Chapter 8 (reading front to back). This time I am not going to "just get by" because the book is so clear that I WANT to learn more. My only regret is that Jim Cheshire didn't write a book on the rest of the Expression Suite of tools, because then I would have a chance at ramping far more quickly.
What Expression Web Is........2007-09-13
"Using Microsoft Expression Web" is an extensive information book which shows the reader what Expression Web is. The author, Jim Cheshire, explains the functions of Expression Web. Even though the author states his book will "...show you how to use the features in Expression Web..." It does not per se show you step by step. It does provide the reader with information with what the features in Expression Web will do.
"Using Microsoft Expression Web" is not a "how-to" book. It is not a, as some say, "on-the-job-training" manual. The extensive contents (720 pages), shows the reader `what' Expression Web is. That's it.
I did not like the author giving the last rights to Microsoft Front Page and burying it. I think Microsoft Front Page is far from leaving town at sunset; it will in the distant future, but we should not bury it yet. However, if you are starting to do web designs, I don't suggest learning Microsoft Front Page. It will be a good idea to start learning Expression Web.
As Jim Cheshire shows in his book, Expression Web has many features Front Page doesn't. With the advance in technology and faster computers, the demand for better quality web designs are at the forefront of web designers. That is where Expression Web comes in. Expression Web supports XHTML, HTML, ASP.NET, CSS support, has powerful XML/XSL support, includes a built-in server, creates Section 508 compliant code and does not depend on Front Page server extension. Microsoft Expression Web is more complex and slower to develop than Microsoft Front Page, but the web designer has far more functions, control, and choices using Expression Web.
The author includes in his book many figures, charts, definitions, tables, tips, notes and includes a CD. The CD is packed with information as well. It contains the electronic version of the book, provides the reader with the free version of Logo Creator, full version of DHTML Menu Builder Lite, and some sample files from the author. The CD in itself is worth more than the cost of the book.
I could not use Jim Cheshire's "Using Microsoft Expression Web" as a "how-to" guide, but to learn the "how-to's" of using Expression Web I recommend the "Total Training Expression Web" DVD with Instructor Janine Warner. The DVD may be bought from Total Training at: Totaltraining.com.
The DVD consists of nine lessons in two parts. To give the reader an example I am enclosing what the first (four) lessons consist of below.
I recommend Jim Cheshire's "Using Microsoft Expression Web" to everyone interesting in web designing. However, I think, the book should be used as a reference guide. Everyone interested in Microsoft Expression Web should have a copy of it.

Large Book.......2007-09-09
This is a large book with a lot of content. However, every time I had a question and turned to the book, the answer was not there. Questions, such as why when I change the size of something with expression web in design mode do other parts items not line up? How do I make them line up? Why did the change I made to a color etc. in design mode not work? If you are upgrading from Frontpage 2003 to Expression Web, I don't really think this book is needed. I found more answers online and with playing with the code in split view. The book does have plenty of content and is formatted well. Its just not for everyone.
Expecting the best, and getting it, with this Expression Web book.......2007-05-20
If it's one thing I know, it is to expect the best from "Jimco" Jim Chesire, and he hasn't let me down this time either. I got Jim's first book on FrontPage in the special edition line because of his quality answers in lists and newsgroups.
This new Expression Web book follows along that path of excellence and gives me an insight into the depths of Expression Web and where it can take me.
If you want to learn Expression Web and further your web design studies this the book for you, it certainly is for me, now excuse me while I go learn something new today.

Book Description
Special Edition Using Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 captures the reality of designing Web sites with FrontPage today. The emphasis is on how to design professional looking sites, how to keep them current with effective content management techniques, and how to do both while working toward the crucial goals of strong communication and interaction.
Elements exist in each chapter that have been crafted to make your reading experience as easy and useful as possible and also to make this book truly serve as the only reference you need for FrontPage 2003. Everything about the software is covered, with increased emphasis in this edition on advanced topics such as scripting, databases, and the design of site interaction. The creation of effective interaction is featured throughout the book, as are the principles of effective communication.
The "Front and Center" area of each chapter is used to interject the authors' real-world experiences and provide that extra piece of knowledge that will help you see the whole picture. They also attempt to have a little fun in this section, showing the personal side to the product they have spent so much time with.
In addition to some sample files and source code from the book, the CD-ROM contains: supplemental FrontPage software (a $100 value!), Internet marketing service trials from a top Internet marketing firm worth $54.95, several popular FrontPage add-ins, including one from Jimco Add-ins called SnipView available exclusively to readers of this book, and more!
Customer Reviews:
Only book you will need for FrontPage 2003.......2007-07-20
I have found this book to be very useful and easy to use. I have an Information Systems Degree but am new to Front Page. This book is great for newcomers as well as experienced users.
The only FrontPage Book I'll Need? Hah!!!.......2007-05-01
The one thing they forgot to include was a bottle of Advil. What a pain to try to follow. I wanted to learn some cool new tricks to build my own sites but I would have to be a super techno geek to really delve into this book. I guess it's OK for reference but not as a How To book especially for novice-amateur users. I think I am better served just buying a template and tweaking that instead of trying to build from scratch.
Good reference.......2007-03-15
Much information but hard to follow. Sends you to another page for details on a subject, then that page sends you to another (or, in at least 2 cases, sends you back to the original page.
OK.......2007-02-17
Good book, but I really needed something more basic. Not the book's fault, it's my fault.
BED TIME READING.......2006-11-10
If you read this book while in bed, it will put you right to sleep. But if you want a good reference book to assist you with FrontPage, it's great. If it doesn't answer your question it will at least lead you down the right path to get it answered.

Book Description
It used to be that two laptops, sitting side by side, couldn't communicate with each other; they may as well have been a thousand miles apart. But that was then, before the advent of Zero Configuration Networking technology. This amazing cross-platform open source technology automatically connects electronic devices on a network, allowing them to interoperate seamlessly-without any user configuration. So now you don't have to lift a finger! Needless to say, it has completely changed the way people connect to devices and programs for printing, file sharing, and other activities.
Zero Configuration Networking: The Definitive Guide walks you through this groundbreaking network technology, with a complete description of the protocols and ways to implement network-aware applications and devices.
Written by two Zero Configuration Networking experts, including one of Apple's own computer scientists, the book covers more than just file sharing and printing. Zero Configuration Networking also enables activities such as music and photo sharing and automatic buddy discovery on Instant Messaging applications. In fact, Zero Configuration Networking can be used for virtually any device that can be controlled by a computer. And this handy guide has the inside scoop on all of its capabilities-and how you can easily apply them in your own environment.
For the technically advanced, Zero Configuration Networking: The Definitive Guide examines the three core technologies that make up Zero Configuration Networking: Link-Local Addressing, Multicast DNS, and DNS Service Discovery. It also reviews a series of APIs, including C-API, Java API, CFNetServices, and Cocoa's NSNetServices.
Whether you want to understand how iTunes works, or you want to network a series of laptops and other devices at your office for maximum efficiency, you'll find all the answers in this authoritative guide.

***** RECOMMENDED
VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!.......2006-08-16
Are you a curious user or software developer or hardware developer? If you are, then this book is for you! Authors Daniel Steinberg and Stuart Cheshire, have done an outstanding job of writing a book that provides an in-depth look at the components of Zeroconf technology and a survey of programming APIs that will allow you to Zeroconf-enable your product.
Steinberg and Stuart Cheshire, begin by giving you a quick overview of the various components that make up Zeroconf. Then, the authors discuss link-local addressing. Next, they provide a description of multicast DNS. The authors then provide you with a description of DNS Service Discovery. They continue by introducing the concepts of DNS Service Discovery and focus on how it applies to discovering services on the local link using Multicast DNS. Then, the authors introduce the dns-sd command line toll that lets you experiment with Zeroconf service advertising and discovery before you actually write your first line of Zeroconf.code. Next, they introduce you to the C API for advertising and browsing for services. The authors then explain the Java API, which lets you write portable cross-platform programs that will run on any supported platform that ha Java and Zeroconf installed. They continue by describing two of the Bonjour APIs that are specific to Mac OS X: CFNet-Services and Cocoa's NSNetServices. Finally, they outline the Zeroconf support appearing in some unexpected languages like Ruby and Python.
This most excellent book shows you how you can, with very little effort, make your devices a lot easier to use. More importantly, this book explains how you can add the benefits of TCP/IP networking to your products without having to sacrifice ease of use.
How to integrate hardware and software with no configuration files in between - and no error messages.......2006-05-02
Stuart Cheshire and Daniel H. Steinberg's Zero Configuration Networking: The Definitive Guide tells how to integrate hardware and software with no configuration files in between - and no error messages. Zeroconf is a standard for building self-configuring applications, from LANs to printer files and file-sharing software: Zero Configuration Networking tells how to put it all together with easy implementation. Three 'Hacks' titles provide options for working with networks, images and programs.

Book Description
It is a big day for the little chickens. Mother Hen is taking them to the playground for the first time. It is very crowded and very exciting--but scary too. The little chickens watch the big dogs and cats and pigs playing on the seesaws, the merry-go-round, and the swings. But they are too afraid to try them. "We're just little chickens," they explain. Then they see the little mice and frogs sliding down the sliding board. "Come on!" calls one of the frogs. "Don't be such chicken chickens!"
Every child who has faced a challenging new experience will be rooting for the Chicken Chickens as they overcome their fear and become brave--and very proud--little chickens.

Great book for a rainy day.......2003-01-21
My 2 year old absolutely loves this book about a couple of chicks taking their first trip to the playground with their mother. They are afraid of trying things at first and eventually decide to try the slide. They discover that once they are over their initial fears (with help from a Beaver) they love it. My daughter says "whee!" along with the text when characters slide down the slide. A lot of fun for my daughter and a book that I really enjoy reading:)

Raffi - Five Little Ducks.......2007-01-10
I bought this as a follow up to "Wheels on the Bus" which my daughter just loves. The story/song is really cute to read, but I'm disappointed with the illustrations. Still a good buy.
Great book for reading readiness..........2006-06-11
This book lets you teach 18 vowel-spellings with 40 vocabulary words.
Very cute storey.......2006-02-18
My son likes this book and loves to say "quack quack". It's a simple story, and he enjoys reading it as well as flipping through the pages. As it goes from 5 ducks to 4 ducks and all the way down to 1, he counts on his fingers how many ducks are left. It's a great book. I recommend it!
Book Description
Setting the Moral Compass brings together the (largely unpublished) work of nineteen women moral philosophers whose powerful and innovative work has contributed to the "re-setting of the compass" of moral philosophy over the past two decades. The contributors, who include many of the top names
in this field, tackle several wide-ranging projects: they develop an ethics for ordinary life and vulnerable persons; they examine the question of what we ought to do for each other; they highlight the moral significance of inhabiting a shared social world; they reveal the complexities of moral
negotiations; and finally they show us the place of emotion in moral life.

Death inside a "Painted Lady".......2002-06-10
Private eye, Sharon McCone, receives a frantic phone call from a friend, Jake Kaufmann, who paints houses in the Painted Lady district of San Francisco. When she reaches the Victorian house where Jake asks her to meet him, she finds him dead. During her investigation she discovers that there are many special interest groups in the area who might have a motive for murder. There are purists who want the homes restored to their original look and there are those who want to fix them up to sell them by painting them the gaudy colors which became popular in the 60's. Sharon (and the reader) find out about the different kinds of Victorian houses which became popular in San Francisco and also some of the furnishings which go well in the houses. Against this background McCone finally figures out who in the community committed Jake's murders and some others. This is a good mystery from the reliable Marcia Muller.
Enjoyed the Painted Ladies but not the plot.......2000-11-14
Ah, the San Francisco of the postcard. Alamo Square with Victorian Row houses with downtown in the background. Muller's third Sharon McCone novel has a terrific sense of place and taught me many new things about the Victorian scene in San Francisco.
Still, the pacing seems a bit bogged down. The side characters, often a highlight in Muller's books, aren't very interesting or sympathetic. Who cares if one of them is killed -- just don't wreck the Tiffany Lamp.
A good read if you love the atmosphere of "romantic San Francisco" but otherwise so-so.
Another good outing for McCone.......2000-06-25
"The Cheshire Cat's Eye" is the third book in the Sharon McCone series by Marcia Muller. McCone finds her friend Jake Kaufmann dead in a San Francisco Victorian house that he is restoring by painting it with gaudy colors. The architectural communty is very opposed to these psychedelic houses. There are several suspects, and McCone is one of them. She must investigate, not only to clear her name, but find Jake's killer. Sharon McCone is by far my favorite female PI in detective fiction. Muller's characters are well-drawn, and her books are a pleasure to read. This novel is not as complex as some of her later works, but this is an excellent place to start. If you haven't yet met Sharon McCone, you will be in for a big treat.
Not as good as other McCone mysteries.......1999-08-19
I've read about 5 of Muller's books featuring Sharon McCone. This wasn't one of my favorites.
A thrilling quick read!.......1999-02-11
Yet another great job by Muller. This time, she takes us into the world of San Francisco's famous "painted ladies." Ever wonder what secrets those grand old houses kept? The lives, the loves (and of course, the deaths) of one family are told in fantastic detail and originality. As Sharon is closing in on the killer, she sets an simple yet effective trap, and the pages turn quickly! Even if you've never been to SF, Muller's writing style will still place you right at the scene of the crime!

Eloise Rules!.......2006-03-15
Eloise never disappoints her fans and this book is no exception. Whether you are 5 or 50 you will find something endearing in this story. A must for anyone who adores Eloise and her adventures!
Kinda Snobby.......2006-03-05
So, I read the other reviews prior to buying for a 7 year old's birthday. I skimmed through it and thought it was really kind of a snobby book. I have never read any of Kay Thompson's other books but I thought it was really wierd that they only talked about the nanny and never about her parents???
Adorable Book! Perfect for Valentine's Day!.......2006-02-15
This book was too cute! The illustrations and very simple language and plot make it perfect for reading with kids on Valentine's Day. While it's true that it doesn't 100% live up to the original Eloise books, I thought it was sweet and it definitely made us all smile. :)
It's a Fake Eloise.......2006-02-14
My daughter and I love Eloise (as written by Kay Thompson). This is a pale comparison which uses some of the same language from the original book but without any of the grace or wit. The authors use the characters, but miss all of the humor and rhythm that make Eloise, Eloise. A great big bleah and it goes into the pile of books that mommy won't read.
