A Must Have.......2007-02-12
Excellent knowledge base for the DIY and pro. This series of books will show you everything you need to know to do it right the first time and pass those crucial inspections.
Buyer Beware.......2003-04-23
When it was difficult to get to the library to view the Uniform Plumbing Code, I used this at home to study for an exam. I was rudely surprised when I got to the libary, compared the references to the code, and found that this guide was riddled with errors. It serves a purpose as it alerts the user to possible code issues, but you must check all references. The codes are expensive but not as expensive as counting on this guide might be.
What a plumbing instructor thinks........2003-01-01
Code check has helped me immensely. I teach residential plumbing for a 150+ employee 1500+ homes a year Northern California company and have found that the info in C.C. is formatted in such a way that my apprentice plumbers can easily find info they need. They seldom need clarification. All codes cited are referenced with the UPC and IRC section numbers for easy look up.(IRC not used here in NorCal but nice for those who need it) Diagrams are simple and clear. C.C. is laminated and tough. Built for in the field use. I love this book. Holding back the fifth star due to spanish version unavailability.
Its helpful.......2002-12-06
This has good diagrams, good descriptions, but is very basic. For the money you can find a better source.
Code Check Plumbing.......2001-12-28
All jurisdictional and private industry inspectors including anyone who is a state licensed general and/or plumbing contractor, and of course, home owners who wish to know the codes regarding plumbing systems.
Or, "don't leave home without it!"

A sound, well-written companion for home inspectors/buyers.......1998-12-09
This book hits upon the major components of home inspection. The checklists throughout the book are a bit redundant (I found many duplicate checklist items). The book also goes in to some considerations for starting your own business in home inspection, which is helpful. I view this book as a good SUPPLEMENT rather than the "bible" of home inspection because I feel it is not exhaustive and technical enough in content. However, for the non-technically inclined homebuyer, the book will be a good tool to have under his/her belt.
Average customer rating:
- Complete checklist for home inspection of houses or condos.
- Great checklist to inspect any home top to bottom.
- EXTREMELY basic, and not in a good sense
- Excellent Book! We use this to train our home inspectors.
- Great home inspector checklist for homeowners also.

Complete checklist for home inspection of houses or condos........2006-06-13
I own a very successful home inspection business in California. We use all of this authors products to train my staff since they are the by far the best products for real estate training on the market. We originally found out about these products through excellent book reviews in the local real estate publications. In the past I had contacted this book's author for some advice on different areas of the business. From that we learned the following details and decided to purchase the whole "Real Estate From A to Z" series by this author:
Nemmar Real Estate Training is ranked as the most exclusive real estate appraiser training, home inspector training, and real estate investor consulting service since 1988. Our real estate books, DVDs, CDs and Videos are rated number one in their real estate categories nationwide!

Great checklist to inspect any home top to bottom........2006-06-08
This book is designed to be a checklist to inspect a house or condominium and that's what I use it for. It covers every aspect of the home with great detail and enables me to make sure I don't miss anything.
The book is not meant to be a training manual to become a home inspector. Rather this book contains a very detailed checklist to be used by a professional inspector or a homeowner.
I found the sections were very easy to follow and understand. The book has all the necessary and essential components and specifications listed so I don't forget something nor overlook anything important.
So if you need a checklist for checking out real estate then this is a great choice. At $16.95 you can't go wrong and the information it has can save you a lot of money and headaches down the road.
If you need a book that teaches you how to inspect homes (rather than a checklist) then this book's publisher has inspection and appraisal books I found to be the most comprehensive on the market.
EXTREMELY basic, and not in a good sense.......2006-06-02
Aspiring home inspectors, look elsewhere. This book is exactly what it is listed as, a CHECKLIST. Don't expect to actually learn anything about the systems that make up a home. Maybe a decent buy for a homeowner's personal use, but definitely not for a pro or for a pre-purchase inspection. Hire a licensed professional when it counts. For something a little more in depth, I'd recommend Rex Cauldwell's Inspecting a House.
Excellent Book! We use this to train our home inspectors........2005-07-23

Great home inspector checklist for homeowners also........2004-10-02
Looking for a good, detailed home inspector checklist book was difficult since I don't know about house construction and repairs but I still wanted a lot of details to learn what I need to evaluate. This book was great because there are very detailed sections but they are explained in a way that even a beginner can understand. I went through my house on the inside and outside and found many problems and repairs that were needed. I had no idea of how much you really need to check in your home to make sure everything is OK or if something needs to be updated or repaired. Certain problems I found needed to be further evaluated by a professional contractor but at least I was able to identify the problems with the help of this book. You should get this book to check your own home since you will save a lot of money and time later by detecting problems and repairs before they get too serious or expensive - or dangerous!

Customer Reviews:
Useful, practical, do-able, great for New Years' resolutions.......1997-10-28
I bought this book a few days after buying an old house in need of much work. We have decided to adopt at least one item each year from the book as a New Years resolution. They range from the very easy (Clean your roof! Check for leaks!) to the advanced-skill or hire-a-contractor level. But all are detailed, and explain why they are included. Some do not apply to every house, such as the basement hints, but everyone will find something that applies to their house. The book is written in language that you don't have to be a builder to understand; you don't even have to be an experienced do-it-yourselfer to get started. Warning: after starting this book, you will become very paranoid about what could go wrong in your house! However, this is a good thing, as paranoia is the first step toward preservation.

As good as his first book, if not better........1998-01-18
I have concluded that Mr.Youssef is an expert on construction and real estate. After being extremely pleased with his first book, How to Build your own house, I had to purchase his second. I was not disappointed, as Mr. Yoissef once again arranged the book in a resourceful manner which was meant for anybody to read, especially someone who does not know about the subject in hand. Plenty of research and time was oviously devoted to this book and it shows. I am optimistically looking forward to future books written by Mr. Youssef.

Customer Reviews:
Good book for the price.......2006-03-18
"Inspecting A House" is about performing home inspections prior to purchasing a home. It contains sections the exterior, structure, electrical service, plumbing, heating, the basement and crawl spaces, interior, insulation, and the attic.
While I am not a professional, I did find this book useful for the cost. The book is easy to read and is fairly exhaustive of the type of problems you could run into and what those problems would look like. The book also contains several diagrams to help illistrate what problems would look like. I would have liked to have seen more diagrams, and even some color pictures... but that would have increased the cost of the book. Like I said, the book was worth what it cost.
The book is targeted to the US environment and codes. Being from Canada, I would have preferred if the author had included us as well... but this isn't fatal. Finally the last part on home renovations seemed to be out of place and far too elementary. The author should have left that part out and done more detail on home inspection.
This book gets the job done for the price. Pick it up for a good overview of home inspections. 3 out of 5 stars.
An excellent guide for home owners and home inspectors.......2000-11-24
This book is an invaluable guide for anyone who owns a home, or is planning to buy or renovate one. The different systems of the house are explored, from the heating system to the roof, with clear descriptions of the typical problems which occur in each of these areas and what to look for.
The pictures, which come from the "Illustrated Home" series of books are clear and certainly worth a thousand words each.
In addition to the technical explanations of the various systems of the house, there is a section devoted to the renovation process, dealing with architects, and information on contracts and budgeting.
