202 reasons anyone starting a new business should buy this book . .......2007-03-16
This book takes you thru all the steps of starting a business , not just online business. I thaught it was extremely helpful !
Good source tool.......2007-01-09
This book is a handy source for just about every catagory of products you want to find to sell on or off the internet. Concise and resource filled, it is a valuable tool for sourcing a wide variety of goods. The only drawback is the unavoidable fact the many businesses come and go and some links are already dead in a book that is 2-3 years old. Overall it is a definite time and effort saver for finding most any type of product you can imagine selling. Highly recommended.
Needs updating badly, many web links old and not working.......2005-09-29
This book needs a serious updating. When I did find something that interested me, the chances were very good that the web links to their site were old and not working. Further searches for the company usually lead no where. Wouldn't recommend
How-to guide for anyone looking to make money as a middleman.......2005-02-10
Expererienced marketing consultant James Stephenson presents 202 Things You Can Buy And Sell For Big Profits, which is much more than a list of goods that anyone can buy and sell. Chapters address how to operate a buy-and-sell enterprise, where to find goods available (including wholesalers, manufacturers, auction sales, private sellers, and online auctions), legal issues with direct impact on a buy-and-sell enterprise, and much more. Each of the 202 items, including new toys, software, fitness equipment, licensed products and more is listed with a two-paragraph description and a point-by-point summary of where to buy, sell, and find resources concerning it. An excellent, basic and practical how-to guide for anyone looking to make money as a middleman.
A Good Place to Start.......2004-12-14
Having been in the small business area just like Mr. Stephenson is talking about for many years, I feel that I can say his book is pretty good. Just a couple of points I want to add. Under Buying Sources, don't forget: thrift shops, particularily sales at thrift shops. Here one of them is half off every Friday. buying overseas. No you don't have to be big. You can find small suppliers of specialty items that are not imported into the US and bring them in.
Under selling venues:
don't forget Affiliate programs from companies like Amazon. They have a tremendous marketplace and handle all the paperwork.
And the internet is very, very important, go take a class on how to do a web site.
Under business organization:
e says that the biggest reason for incorporating is that you can greatly reduce your own personal liability. I've never found this. Any good lawyer that wants to sue you can frequently get around the corporate shield.
He also talks about the double taxation of a corporation, you file as a Subchapter S corporation and this doesn't happen. And you can create your own corporation, look for the book Ultimate Guide to Incorporating in any State.
Business License: Eventually you'll need one, but I have found that towns and cities are sticky about granting licenses to individuals who want to work out of their house. Furthermore enforcement is rare, and there are basically no penalties if you get caught - but you may want to check on this in your area.
Finally he lists some 202 things you can guy and sell for big profits. No question that in evey one of these things someone has developed his own business. But just pick one or two of these things, if they can be combined, you can scatter yourself too thin.
Book Description
For every prospective homebuyer there is a unique financial situation. Some may have past or current credit issues, others lack cash-on-hand for a down payment, and many have unpredictable incomes. But this doesn't mean these folks are any less entitled to own a home.
Who Says You Can't Buy a Home! gives readers plenty of proven, powerful ways to overcome perceived obstacles to home ownership. Real estate and home-buying authority David Reed tells hopeful buyers everything they need to know about establishing credit, using government mortgage and zero money down programs, buying foreclosures, getting subprime loans, buying without a mortgage, and much more.
And for those with shaky credit, Who Says You Can't Buy a Home! offers priceless advice on managing credit scores and reports, repairing bad credit, and other crucial steps that can make the difference between owning a home and being turned down. The book also shows how to avoid predatory lenders and common mistakes, while giving readers the confidence and know-how to get the home they've always wanted.

Opens up your options!.......2007-05-22
I meet lots of first time home buyers who have bad or no credit. Often times they are frustrated and start to assume that most lender and brokers don't want to deal with them. What this book does is open up those options.
I let one of my clients borrow this book. He came back to me and felt more confident with his decision to pursue to signing the papers.
Great information, easily explained, lots of ideas.......2006-05-29
Although this book has chapters devoted to people with no credit or bad credit, this new book tells how people can get a home loan - at competitive rates - that might not have any money for down payment or closing costs, regardless of credit history.
I'm in the real estate business and thought I had heard it all but this book points out strategies that I didn't know existed. Perhaps the best sections are those which address people with damaged credit and how to not just shop around for the best loan but maybe more importantly how to protect themselves from "bad" loan officers who are only in the business to take advantage of someone and charge super high rates and fees.
I bought several copies of this book to give to clients who think they can't buy a home. Then wait for their phone call!

Consumer Guide to Home Energy Savings.......2006-03-12
If you want to replace your appliances in your home this is your book to find the most energy efficient products on the market. It rates the products as well as explaining how they work. Tons of information for the everyday consumer. We have used it to help us decide upon which kind of washer & dryer to buy as well as the installation of a heat pump, which replaced the 30 year old forced air furnace. It covers all the types of heating systems as well as cooling systems.
For the washer it compares vertical axis with horizonal axis right down to cost per load, electric and gas, wash and rinse cycle options and even laundry tips.
There is a whole chapter on lighting, both incandescent and compact florescent bulbs.
Hot water heaters are covered: gas or electric, storage types, demand, water pump, tankless, indirect and even solar. It discusses replacing & sizing water heaters for your home and how you use hot water, insulation and how to lower the water temperture. We went as far as to put a timer on our hot water heater so that it only heats water when we need it most, early morning for showers and evening for cooking and dishes.
It even covers windows, home insulation, energy audits and how to read the Energy Guide labels on all products.
We have found this book both informative and a keeper. We have had friends borrow it and some have even gone and purchased their own. This is our 2nd one, we almost wore out the first one which was the 7th edition. The new 8th edition brings us up to date. We gave the old one to friends who were happy to have it.
A terrific book.......2002-08-27
I have a house under construction and I need information on windows types, heating and cooling appliance options as well as insulations. This book is over 5 stars. I borrowed a copy from a library and am planning to buy one for reference collections.
Practical energy savings information.......2001-06-19
This book covers both the house itself (insulation, windows, etc.) as well as appliances, furnaces, and lightbulbs. Written in 1999, it lists major appliances, windows, furnaces, boilers, and air conditioners by brand name and model number in table format showing the energy ratings of each one. This saves you the time of running around town or making dozens of phone calls to collect this info.
It also explains all the information contained on energy labels when you go shopping. In particular, I found the section on windows most beneficial. It details what tests are done to obtain the ratings, which tests are most relevant and which ratings you should pay particular attention to, as there are several ratings on each window.
It also was bold enough to say which things you should be spending your money on and which things are nice to have but not absolutely necessary.
Save money on energy bills with this big little book.......1999-12-14
I bought this book from amazon for research into healthy houses and I skimmed it for my deadline. I'm reading it closely now. Well written, easy to read, detailed, comprehensive. Even if you haven't a speck of money for new appliances, much less a new heating system, you can save money on energy. It's small--you can fit in your bag to take to the appliance store, but it's packed with stuff. Well worth the price.

Customer Reviews:
Impractical advice.......2005-07-22
I found this book to lack usefulness, more of a "cheerleader" for "Yay you CAN buy a house" rather than a useful tool to help you do so.
Practical Reference For Home Buyers.......2005-07-10
This is a practical book for home buyers. However, it does not contain a wide-spectrum of information one'd expect. For example, information about town-house and condo are superficial. And there are other sections I'd expect the author to go a little bit more in detail. Even with all these concerns, this book and author should get credit where credit is due. It gives good guidelines and portrays a clear system of how to determine a good house buy.
From San Francisco Chronicle 12/8/02 (by Robert J. Bruss).......2002-12-11
#1 of year's 10 top real estate books. This survey book explains virtually all the home-purchase alternatives, such as different types of houses and condos, as well as low-cost finance alternatives. Aimed at first-time buyers, this well-designed book explains home-buying techniques that less-than-perfect buyers should consider.
This is not Just a Catchy Title.......2002-10-13
This book is a godsend to anyone who feels there is no way they will ever be able to afford a house. In the last few years many things have changed in the home mortgage market and this book walks you through how to buy a house with 0% down, how to avoid PMI insurance with a 80/20 Loan , not to mention where to look for bargains, how to low-ball etc.
This book is worth every penny. It is well-written, researched and up to date. If you would like to buy a home and are waiting to save up for a downpayment order this book today. You won't be sorry!

Book Description
There's no other book on the market that explains the acquisition process in such a logical, easy-to-understand manner.
Customer Reviews:
You Can Buy A Business.......2000-03-30
Of the many "how to buy a business" books out there today, Ted diStefano's You Can Buy A Business is possibly the most concise yet complete guide available. It's obviously designed for the person of average means who needs someone to walk him/her through the often mysterious (and sometimes treacherous) process of acquiring a business. At the same time, the procedures and strategies discussed in the book can be used to buy a large and expensive business, so it can help people who want to be real players, too. Basically, this is a very user-friendly guide that is written in accessible, nontechnical language. The author's voice comes through as a friend, a business partner, and a financial advisor to those who want to make decent money in their own business. While the author clearly explains, step by step, how many small businesses can be acquired with little or no cash, he also encourages the reader as he educates him/her about a business process that does not have to be intimidating. In other words, the author demystifies the whole acquisition process, which is a real help to those of us who don't have an MBA from Harvard. Also, readers should appreciate the author's sensible tone, and they should be reassured that his advice is sound, because he is a "been-there-done-that guy" and not some ivory tower theorizer. You Can Buy A Business also answers a lot of important questions, including: What businesses make the best investment? and Which businesses should you avoid? In short, this book is an excellent guide for anyone who has dreamed of owning his own business and gaining job security and financial freedom. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to make the leap from employee to employer.

Many of us would love to jump on the home-based business bandwagon but we simply don't have the qualifications or experience to start a new enterprise from scratch. Popular self-employment authors Paul and Sarah Edwards recognized this predicament, and with Walter Zooi, they have assembled a comprehensive resource precisely for such hesitant entrepreneurs. Home Businesses You Can Buy thoroughly examines franchises, multilevel marketing, and other "prepackaged" business opportunities, and includes important advice on avoiding related scams.
Customer Reviews:
Great understanding and fullfillment of the readers needs.......2002-02-16
I searched a dozen books looking for my future business. I found this book gave me more than I expected from anyone. Help with evaluating myself, the many businesses, and how well they fit my skills and preferences was provided. The only need I found missing, I learned, was illegal for franchisers to say -what range of income is produced with these businesses. That information has to come from somewhere else.
Getting Off to The Right Start Means Avoiding Scams.......1999-11-30
I found this book incredibly helpful in getting me off on the right foot in my home-based business. The book clearly outlines the three major "pre-packaged" types businesses available (franchises, business opportunities and multi-level marketing). Then comes the good part. The authors provide a series of tests and checklists that can be applied to any business that you might consider buying. Tests to determine a business' chances for success, the honesty of the seller, the forthrightness of opportunity - and even a test you take yourself to find out if the business is a good match for your personality and skill level - follow each section. These tests, and the information they reveal, take much of the guesswork out making a decision as important as what kind of (and which kind of) business to buy. I highly recommend it. The Edwards', with Walter Zooi, have done it again!

How to Buy a Home while you can still afford to.......2000-03-28
This is an excellent book for first time home buyers. It covers everything you need to know, from selecting a home, financing and tax advantages to owning. It has sample contracts, goes over the closing process and amortization tables. I also reccomend, "106 Common Mistakes Homebuyers Make" which also covers similar topics. This book really focuses on financing options and has a detailed explanation of costs associated with closing. It also provides tips and techniques of how to negotiate. I liked the sample forms provided in the book. The forms are very accurate. This book helped familarize me with the process of buying a home. It also prepared me to know what to expect when seeking financing and typical costs at closing. The book is a very good value and the information provided was a great help.
