Nurse Practitioner's Bus Practice and Legal Guide.......2007-02-07
Excellent condition of book, speedy delivery, and a fantastic content within the book.
Must read, for Nurse Practitioners & students.......2005-10-21
Great book which provides definitions and state-by-state breakdowns of important concepts, such as collaboration, prescriptive authority and SCAs.
2nd edition.......2004-01-28
I found Carolyn Buppert's second edition of Business Practice and Legal Guide to be very helpful. The additional chapters are useful for my practice and for research on a state wide level. I would recommend this book to nurse practitioners and students of the profession. It is proving to be a valuable resource for improving NP practice in Alabama. Be sure to get the second edition (2003/2004)as the first was published in 1995.
Information is outdated.......2004-01-21
As a grad student interested in starting my own practice upon graduation, I found this book to be useless. It has been reprinted by another publishing company and its original copyright date is 1999. Between then and now - 2004 - a lot of things have changed. Therefore, I would recommend that anyone who requires current information should look elsewhere. This is a very expensive book as is not helpful at all!!!
Excellent resource for any nurse practitioner.......2002-11-09
I had the pleasure of reading this book while finishing my last year in nurse practitioner school.
Ms. Buppert is a master in defining how to negotiate business contracts.
I met the author at a nurse practioner conference in Nashville Tn and she was very down to earth and truly magnificent in her knowledge of laws affecting nurse practioners.
I highly recommend this book.

Customer Reviews:
Selected as workbook for UC Santa Cruz class.......2007-01-04
For the future presentations of the University of California Extension Sarbanes-Oxley class, we selected this volume and CDROM as the workbook. The earlier textbook was too high-level and theoretical. The head of the Finance and Accounting department was quick to approve the change. The participants in the class include both accounting and IT professionals; they will appreciate the very practical nature of this volume.
Toolkit That More Than Pays for Itself.......2005-09-20
One of the unintended consequences of subscribing to a Sarbanes-Oxley Listserv is seeing how many auditors, and companies, are struggling with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. There has been a lot of uncertainty for auditors, and companies, as what is required and how to go about setting up an effective audit plan and making compliance repeatable, sustainable reality. I have seen more calls of help for toolsets in this Listserv than I wish there were, but that has been the reality. However, there is now an outstanding resource to help external, internal auditors, and companies get their acts together by streamlining the 404 compliance process.
Michael Ramos, author of the excellent "How to Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404: Assessing the Effectiveness of Internal Control", has now written "The Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 Implementation Toolkit: Practice Aids for Managers and Auditors" (357 pages, John Wiley and Sons, 2005, ISBN 0471712256. This is not a book to sit down and read. This is a book that, from cover to cover, provides worksheets, sample documents, and decision criteria for their use. It is a book that comes with a CD-ROM of the entire documentation contents that will more than pay for itself from the first day you have it in your hands.
It is hard to look at a book like this and say "I like or do not like what the author has to say", or that "I really like the author's writing style". What you need to look at in deciding whether or not to purchase this book, is a series of questions.
Do you have to conduct Section 404 audits as part of an external audit or as part of a control self-assessment? Do you need ready to go and completely customizable templates to help you in this process? Do you want to use tools developed by an experienced Certified Public Accountant, instead of having to sit down and spend days on end developing your own toolsets and work paper templates? How much non-billable time are you willing to spend developing these tools? Do you want an easy to understand methodology that can easily be taught and passed on to other employees as part of a knowledge transfer and enablement program?
If you are like me, these questions will give you the easy answer of "Yes!". All of the documents provided on the CD ROM are in word format, and the disk also contains a Microsoft Word document viewer and a copy of Open Office. Each form comes with a purpose statement to understand its use, as well as instructions on how to use them. Ramos starts with the general work program and takes the process all the way to the end with management reports. There is also a sample general audit program.
Who Should Read This Book
The purchase of this book should be a no-brainer for internal and external auditors, managers, and consultants doing SarBox work. I add this latter group because there are too many consultants out there who are telling clients things that are not quite accurate. This book should help them provide better services.
really a practical guide.......2005-08-24
this book provides very detailed content for SOX issues. Since the Act itself is quite complicated, so more detailed the better. I think this book really helps.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Customer Reviews:
For beginners.......2007-05-12
I purchased this book for a class (legal technology) which turned out to be as remedial as this book. While I believe it could be very useful for someone who is not used to navigating a computer, it really insults the intelligence of those of us who have grown up with technology. This book does have a few useful tips that clarify certain aspects of Concordance and other legal programs, but I find it easier to explore an unfamiliar program on my own without the tedious step-by-step process Roper uses in his lessons.
Informative, but............2006-11-07
I purchaed this book for a Paralegal class. I had two very bad experiences with the book. First, the first copy I received had no Appendix in it, so I had to send it back. It was unfortunate, as I needed the Appendix to do an assignment. Secondly, the software that was provided was expired when I tried to load it into my laptop to do homework. I called the publishing company and they promised to send me a new disk; two weeks later and I still have not received it.
I will keep it as a reference source, but I hope that another book will be written for future students. If you do not need it for a class, PLEASE look for another book.
Great learning tool.......2005-03-24
I bought this book for a legal assistant class and I enjoyed it. I learned a lot. It's hard to learn computers from a book - but not this one. The book comes with software and has tutorials and exercises that accompany the software. My class also liked the fact that there are tons of practical applications for how computers are actually used by practicing paralegals and legal secretaries in the book. Also, when it comes to litigation support - one of the most difficult legal computer applications to master - it was fantastic. It comes with three different litigation support programs, including Summation. Summation is fairly involved to learn and the book, tutorials, exercises and software did a good job of teaching this to me. I am confident now in my ability to do basic litigation support. The chapter on using the Internet to do legal and factual research was also excellent.
I would definately buy this again!.......2005-03-18
This book is essential for anyone working in a law office. Computers are used in nearly every aspect of working in a law firm. The book is huge - nearly 700 pages - and it covers every main type of program used in a law office. It comes with software, and lots of exercises and I thought it was very easy to read and straight forward. It covers hard topics like litigation support and Access databases in a way that I could understand without totally going over my head. The book covers both entry level and advanced topics. For example in the word processing chapter the Word tutorial had 7 lessons that got progressively more difficult, starting with basic word processing and ending with mail merges and creating tables of authorities.
Highly Recommended.......2005-03-14
I think this is a fabulous book. It comes with demonstration versions of 5 legal software programs including three litigation support programs, a time and billing program and a case management program. There were a number of in-depth, hands-on exercises for each program, so I really got to learn about each type of program by using it. Also, although I have used Access, Word, Excel and Powerpoint before, I liked the fact that there were in-depth exercises for learning legal applications for each of these programs. This is a very practical book.

Book Description
Compliance requirements are here to stay.
Prepare your company for the growing challenge.
A Wall Street Journal/Harris poll revealed that two thirds of investors express doubts in the ability of corporate boards of directors to provide effective oversight. In the shadow of recent global scandals involving businesses such as Parmalat and WorldCom, Manager's Guide to Compliance: Best Practices and Case Studies is essential reading for you, whether your organization is a major corporation or a small business.
This timely handbook places U.S. and global regulatory information, as well as critical compliance guidance, in an easy-to-access format and helps you make sense of all the complex issues connected with fraud and compliance.
"Wide perspectives and best practices combined deliver a punch that will knock your 'SOX' off! The author has blended together a critical mix necessary for effectively handling the requirements of SOX."
—Rob Nance, Publisher, AccountingWEB, Inc.
"Robust compliance and corporate governance is an absolute necessity in today's business environment. This new book by Anthony Tarantino is an authoritative guide to understanding and implementing compliance and regulatory requirements in the United States and around the world. From SOX to COSO to ERM, this book covers them all."
—Martin T. Biegelman, Certified Fraud Examiner, Fellow and Regent Emeritus of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and coauthor of Executive Roadmap to Fraud Prevention and Internal Control: Creating a Culture of Compliance
"If compliance wasn't difficult enough, now companies are faced with a barrage of technology vendors claiming to automate compliance as if it were a project. In his new book, Dr. Tarantino paints the reality of the situation: companies need to embrace the broader tenets of governance and use technology to embed governance policies and controls into their daily business processes. Only then can they gain business value from their compliance investments."
—Chris Capdevila, CEO and cofounder, LogicalApps

i have just read some chapter such as Sarbanes-Oxley and fast scan the other. I think it is the book which i look for.
Outstanding.......2007-01-24
Prior to reading this book I knew almost nothing about compliance. The book is well written and easy to understand for anyone that has formal accounting education. The book provided a tremendous amount of insight, and was very practical. The book has helped out at work tremendously.

Dr. Tarantino's book was exactly what I needed to understand the many regulations facing my businesses in the US and China. It will be required reading for my various managers and directors.
Book Description
Essential reading for artists, art dealers, and gallery owners, The Artist-Gallery Partnership: A Practical Guide to Consigning Art offers a unique and thorough discussion of consignment that clarifies all aspects of this crucial art world relationship. The book presents a provision-by-provision explanation of the Standard Art Consignment Agreement, a model contract between artist and dealer suitable for use. The contract is flexible, making it ideal for establishing consignment arrangements that are mutually beneficial. It covers agency, consignment, warranties, transportation responsibilities, insurance coverage, pricing, gallery's commission, promotion, return of art, and much more.
The Artist-Gallery Partnership provides artists and dealers with guidelines for sound business negotiations as well as ideas for resolving disputes. The revised edition contains a new chapter on state consignment legislation, and includes a sample of the Standard Art Consignment Agreement, an inventory sheet/receipt for artworks on consignment, and the texts of the art consignment laws enacted in more than thirty states.

Gallerying is not for amateurs.......2007-06-12
I have a small space for a gallery. This book taught me that running the gallery myself was more involved than I had thought. I will leave the operation itself to a lessee. Essential first step for people who think it would be simple fun to open an art gallery.
A bit too simplistic.......2007-06-08
Whether you are a gallery owner or artist, I suggest finding a book that goes much more in depth. The Artist-Gallery relationship is much more complex and has many nuances not covered. The artist once again gets the short end of the "stick."
Authoritative and Highly Useful.......2006-09-14
This book is regarded by many as the "bible" for artists who consign work to galleries. All the pitfalls and potential problems you can imagine are cited here, along with practical, simple advice for making the most of an artist's relationship with a gallery.
Tad Crawford, who has written extensively on the legal and other business aspects of artist practice, has scored again with this great work.
The Best Book of Its Kind!!!.......2003-02-05
I own a small gallery because I love art and artists, but I was not prepared for the variety of business and legal headaches that this field could produce. During yet another frantic call to my attorney, she recommended this book to me and life has been considerably calmer ever since.
Let's face it: art is a business and if you are an artist or a gallery owner, you can't afford to be without this information. I use this book to maintain records; I check paperwork against it before visiting my accountant; I use its sample forms and agreements every time I get the place ready for a new exhibit; and I follow this book's advice with every sale and display we make. This book should be required reading for everyone who has anything to do with art consignment...

Good technical review - not for novices.......2007-06-08
I have not finished reading this but I like it so far. It is very technical and seems to be very accurate.
It could be slightly dated with the new SEC guidance and AS-5, but from what I see so far, the author's approach was a little ahead of his time as he seems to propose methodology similar to the new guidance.
Novices and seasoned pros should also read Sarbanes-Oxley For Dummies (For Dummies (Business & Personal Finance))
A Good Summary of Everything you Need to Know.......2006-05-20
Sarbanes-Oxley is now a couple of years old. In that time companies have struggled to understand not only the letter of the law, but what it really means in terms of what the Government and the courts really want.
This book is not a primer on Sarbanes-Oxley, in fact it presumes that you have some understanding of what that's all about. Only the first three chapters have an overview of what is required with particular attention to the internal control aspect. It is at the same time it is a summary of the internal control requirements, a guidebook to their implementation, and a reference based on practical experience.
While you could probably get all of the information contained in this book from a seminar or two, spending a bit of time on the web, and talking to associates, in this book everything is collected together in a single, quite readable volume that presents a well thought out coherent review of what Section 404 is all about.
A technical take on SOX's internal ramifications.......2006-04-05
Author Michael Ramos provides comprehensive, meticulously detailed information. He offers a detailed guide to evaluating your company's internal controls. He addresses Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 legislation, as well as associated Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) regulatory requirements, even covering the COSO and COBIT reporting frameworks. While expert and exhaustive, the book suffers from a dense, academic writing style. We suggest it to those who seek a very detailed compliance overview and who already have experience with understanding auditing standards and related governmental regulations.
Don't waste your time and money on this book.......2004-11-25
Author doesn't have anything in this book which not already available free of cost on the internet. It was a total waste of my time and money procuring and reading this book. May be useful to people who can't search items on their own online. Admire the market who knew how to title useless books like these!!
Relevance of Ramos' book for IT SOX professionals.......2004-10-08
The fact that section 404 doesn't go beyond a high level statement about "internal controls" means that IT SOX audits are making it up as they go. There is a desparate need for more detailed, authoritative guidance in this area. Unfortunately, though Ramos' book makes a contribution to the general audit literature around Sarbanes-Oxley, it does not advance things for the IT professional. If you are this kind of person, I recommend not buying this book and instead continuing to rely on the resources available on the web, mostly downloadable for free, such as the IT Governance Institute's "IT Control Objectives for Sarbanes-Oxley".

After reviewing the two other books of this type available, this one is by far the best. The chapter on CRM is what makes this one heads and tails above the others. If you are thinking of buying this book to read, don't think about it anymore. Buy it!

Book Description
Dan Reingold was one of the top analysts on Wall Street. Specializing in telecom companies like WorldCom and Qwest, Reingold believed in Wall Street, and was a part of it. But in this insiders memoir, Reingold describes how his enthusiasm gradually gave way to disgust when he saw how deeply corrupt Wall Street really was. Because big investors had the advantage of inside information, which companies shared with more accomodating analysts, Reingold saw how a straight arrow like himself was doomed to fail.
Reingold is like an incredulous minister who mistakenly finds himself in a whore house. He struggles with temptation: for example, his employer, Credit Suisse First Boston, wants him to sign a contract that would give him huge incentives in return for essentially selling out his clients. He seethes with resentment at being continually trumped by his nemesis, Jack Grubman, who was viewed as a superstar and only later, fined and thrown out of the industry.
Ultimately, Reingold comes to terms with the corrupted, insiders game that was his profession. In the tradition of Liar's Poker, this is a lively, insiders account of how things really work on Wall Street that will teach even Eliot Spitzer a few things. To complete his tale, Reingold even sat through the 2005 trial of one of the most spectacular losers of the 1990s, fallen WorldCom CEO Bernie Ebbers, who Reingold knew in his heyday.
Customer Reviews:
Good read on the inner workings of Wall Street but..........2007-08-10
..but each time I felt that I liked the author, he kept bringing up instances to support his extreme dislike of Grubman. This really took away from the content and message of the book. I think it would have been enough to state how different he was from Grubman and then let his own example of hard, clean work be benchmark for the reader to compare the 2 analysts. In the end, no one can say Grubman was as honest a man as Reingold.
Interesting read.......2007-07-30
Interesting read for anyone interested in learning more about the stock analyst profession and the conflicts of interest that occurred during the dot com bubble during the late 90s.
Not Since "Den of Thieves...".......2007-07-29
Not Since the book "Den of Thieves" has a Wall Street expose been created that details the lurid "behind the scenes" events and actions affecting a major part of our nation's financial industry.
Author Dan Reingold, a former Wall Street telecom analyst, takes the reader on an intimate journey through the telecom stock "boom" and subsequent "bust" in the 1990's.
I found this book to be very insightful with particular interest to those of us who specialize in "day-trading" and dabbling in trading of stocks and options (at any level). Author Reingold warns:
"Of all the lessons I've learned in my time on the Street, the most difficult one to swallow is that I no longer believe in the transparency of the American financial system. When I came to the Street, I saw it as a place where there were plenty of sharks, but also as a place where American capitalism reigned supreme, a place where everyone has a chance to do well if they were smart, hardworking, and a little bit lucky. It was a game I enjoyed playing--at least until how I realized how corrupted the game had become.
But I also came to realize that for people who don't have access to this inner sanctum, Wall Street is not a game at all. It's deadly serious, and it's rigged against most of its participants--everyone but the few with a seat at Wall Street's special tables. If you take anything away from this book, I hope it is this unfortunate truth (pp 314-15)."
Well done and rated at five stars for taking the uncomfortable position of trying to sound the alarm while uncovering the truth.

Inside scoop on the telecomm industry.......2007-07-15
The author gives all the dirt on what it was like to work on wall street during the telecomm craze of the eary 1990's. all the players are named and the best part that he concludes and proves how slimy it all is with concrete examples. Good book.
Good story about the job of a Research Analyst.......2007-03-09
This is a good description of what research analyst's job entails. However, one has to read this book with a grain of salt as the author may not have been forthcoming about the activities that he has been involved in that are in a gray area. Otherwise, though, it makes for interesting reading. I wonder if it becomes fuel for more regulatory changes on Wall Street.
Also, the salaries spoken about in this book are shocking. Read it to find out what they earn on Wall Street :-).
