Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Enterprise integration is a must today and this can be achieved by combining infostructure and infrastructure resources. Choo's prescription here provides a framework for assessment of knowledge management using best business practices in Web-based environments. It, also, facilitates furthering knowledge management studies in relation to return on investment in a corporate culture. To achieve this end a direct route is prescribed in this book. It has to be based on the integration of organizational knowledge, i.e. using Choo's favorite trio: tacit knowledge, explicit knowledge and cultural knowledge.

An over-priced but worthwhile book for academics.......2002-02-27

This book has three separate sections, and though the sections are related they differ in style and approach. The first section, which can be attributed to Professor Choo, pretty much contains the same stuff as in his book "The Knowing Organisation", but condensed and more to the point. If you haven't read TKO there's no need to buy it after having read section one in this book. If you have read TKO, well, section one summarises and explains it to you. Theoretical frameworks regarding information needs, information seeking and information use is covered in Chapter 1, while Chapter 2 discusses the relationship between data, information, and knowledge. Choo also advocated his own typology of organisational knowledge: tacit, explicit, and cultural knowledge. Taken together, section one forms a theoretical foundation for knowledge work, but since not much of it is visible in the rest of the book it is kind of a stand-alone framework.

Section two, which can be traced to the work of Detlor, deals with intranets as a platform for knowledge work (Chapter 3) and discusses how intranets can be designed to support such work (Chapter 4). In my opinion, this is the real contribution of the book. The author(s?) does a good job bringing together lessons from different academic fields and offers many interesting references to related work. Section 2 is thus a gold mine for graduate and PhD students engaged in research efforts. The conclusions are however on a meta level and perhaps a bit difficult for the average business person to apply and appreciate.

Lyn Malone's book is an outstanding resource for teachers of Human Geography. It comes with software for over 20 different teaching activities from population growth to territorial disputes. It is designed by a teacher for teachers with clear instructions as well as materials for students to fill out. It also includes a license for all the computers in a school. This is a great resource for showing how GIS software aids the study of geography. I highly recommend this!

Absolutely disappointing and no value!.......2006-10-25

I have struggled to complete this book with many moments of giving it up.
The book is a consolidation of articles, methodologies and write up from others. The authors do not have much or any own inputs. They are merely combining what they could find out there.

ALthough many methologies are being stated eg EVA, Information Orientation, Activity Based Costing, COBIT, I could not find how these could be used to quantify the value of IT investments in modern business world. The authors have just defined and explained the terms without any real life examples in how the quantification should be carried out.

I do not extract any value from this book and felt disappointed. The book is attractive by the hpye of the title only!!!!

Finally a good book that shows examples of authentication via LDAP. This has been an area of great confusion. The Enterprise Security Scenarios were helpful also.

With the publication of Infinite Wealth, Barry Carter has established himself as a voice on the leading edge of the synergic paradigm.

The synergic paradigm is a place where you and I can be much more by working together than we could ever be by working separately. It is a place where we both can win. It is a place where we can create a win-win world in contrast to our present win/lose and often lose/lose world.

To solve the problems facing us (humanity) at the beginning of the 21st Century will require nothing less than our learning to work together. We must learn to Co-Operate. As Barry Carter explains in his Conclusion to Infinite Wealth:

First off, this book made the cut above another ten or so options on the fringes (the amazon reviews helped). It was a good choice. The author captures the essence of many other books as well as real-world experience with two fundamental points that every manager and every employee--including fast-food employees and others in "drone" jobs--needs to absorb: first, that the existing bureaucratization of the economy at every level is costing so much as to place those companies in jeopardy during the forthcoming economic shake-out, and second, that the sooner every individual begins the process of inventorying their personal capabilities and creating the networks for offering their personal services and knowledge via the Internet to all comers, the sooner they will be able to share in the profits associated with their direct individual contributions to the new economy.

The Department of Defense acquisition and contracting examples are especially shocking because they show, so credibly and in detail, how we have institutionalized multi-billion dollar waste.

This is a special book. It is by a practical man who has drawn very personal and transformative lessons from the school of hard knocks, and whose recounting of those lessons have value for anyone who expects to work for a living today and in the future. This is not a "get rich quick" book as much as it is a "get rich together or get left behind" book.

Infinite Wealth - Not exactly as you might think.......2000-02-11

Assuming that Futurists do their homework right, one should be able to act on their insights with a fair degree of confidence. With "Infinite Wealth" the same trending snapshots caught by noted futurists such as Faith Popcorn, Alvin Toffler and John Naisbitt take on more personalized dimensions. Barry Carter opens up before his readers doors to personal fulfillment, inviting them to join the driving forces of 21st Century new economies. If ever there was insider information worth its weight in gold, this is it.

Whether or not you are already a pioneer of the emerging Free Agent Nation, this book is a must read! If you are one of tens-of-millions sensing that the world you thought you knew is changing, not certain where you might fit in, I highly recommend "Infinite Wealth" as a beginner's guide to learning. But be forewarned! "Infinite Wealth" is not really about material wealth - per say, and if that is what you seek...well then maybe you should read the book. Otherwise, you may never know what hit you.

An Excellent Book..........2000-01-25

If you can overlook certain things that I find a bit grating--especially the author's touting companies like Microsoft and Amway as exemplars of the new "win/win" economy (I prefer to see them as the WORST examples of the exploitative Industrial Age economy)--you will realize this is an important and timely book. The author has created an inspiring and stimulating collage--his work itself an example of the infinite possibilities for creativity that the Information Age offers.

I regularly scour library catalogs for new books in subjects like "Information Society" and "Knowledge Management." This is one of the few that I've read from cover to cover.

Infinite Wealth.......2000-01-11

I wish I had this book at my disposal when I started to change the management system at my own company. I begun a bold and seemingly insane program to get our employees more interested and involved in the company's future for the same reason Barry Carter decided to write this book. We both realized that today's big corporations are nothing more than mini Soviet Unions, controlled and socialized economies, where wealth creation is inefficient, the people are unmotivated and unhappy. (When I first got in contact with him, he thought I read his book). With this book I could have explained to my partners and the employees why I thought we needed to change and avoid the traditional pyramid structure in our company and create a self-managed environment.

Good, but not good enough.......2002-12-05

First of all let me congratulate you for your efforts in becoming an Certified E-Commerce professional, before writting this review I thought about this book a lot, I have to tell you that I read it from cover to cover and here are my thoughts: This book is extremely long, it talks about issues that you will not get on the exam nor they will be applied in real life, the test engine to my surprise had many, many errors, they were questions that will contradict themselves or sometimes you will find 2 correct answers when the test engine was only asking for one, futhermore, some questions had the wrong answer or were asked with insufficient information, bottom line it made it more confusing. It would mixed terms like EDI, SET and SSL.

Did I pass? yes, some questions in the test were addressed in the book, I also used online examcrams and free tests. You can pass the test with this book, but I think there room for improvement. Unfortunately, I cannot recommed this book, the most important chapter Security was left almost at the end, the explanation for symmetric and asymmetric encryption were very brief and doesn't explain it in a way you can understand it easily, also one of the key subjects for e-commerce today is security, which the book left for the end (when you are tired and your concentration is not at its peak) this makes it a lot more difficult. I wouldn't rely on the test engine at all, rather I will look for a more subject comprehensive and to-the-point text. I hope this comment might help in your search for an e-commerce text book and good luck!

Only book I used, and I passed!.......2002-03-13

This is the only book I used to study for the E-commerce exam and I passed with an 85 percent. I think it is very adequate for the exam, but perhaps has some extra material (like Actinic Businees and so forth) that you do not need to know.

This book can be a bit confusing, so I recommend that you do all the questions in the book and also all the practice questions on the CD.

Here's what I did: the two nights before the exam, I reviewed every single chapter's pre-test as well as the chapter reviews and the questions at the end of the chapter. I also read all of the exam tips in each chapter (these are life savers for the exam). Make sure you do this!

The night before the exam I took three out of four tests from the CD. I recommend if you have the time and are confused to do all these tests and to go over them an additional time. This process will help you focus on the priorities for the exam. Best of luck on the exam!

great book!.......2002-01-23

After being unimpressed with some of the stale CIW material
available, I was pleasantly surprised with the CIW E-Commerce
Bible.

The book is well suited to self-study, it treats the material
in depth, and yet weaves in exercises and labs to keep you
interested. The labs give you a reasonably "hands-on" feel
for the material. You're expected to have a Windows 2000
Professional or Windows 98 PC on the net for the labs.

The book comes with a Boson practice exam and a CD
with various packages. My only gripe is that the three were
not as well integrated as I would have liked. The practice
exams weren't great, but after taking and passing the CIW
test, I'd have to say they are as good as the real thing.
It's important to learn the CIW exam way of thinking, which does
not necessarily match the real world.

The packages on the CD did not match what the book expected.
For example, it's not necessary to have Winzip to unzip the
E-business software on the CD, but the book believes it is.
The Apache source code package on the CD won't install,
but you can download it from apache.org. The errata sheet at The book did the job for me. After a read-through, the labs,
and the practice exams, I passed with 88%.

This book delivered me an 84% pass in the exam through self-paced study.
This was the only resource I used other than the Internet.

An excellent feature of this book is that it is crammed full of real e-commerce applications that allows you to simulate an online business to get the hang of what online commerce is all about.

Shopping carts
Shipping scenarios
Payment models

These are all essential elements that have to be experienced from the other side to comprehend how a successful online store should be constructed.

The exam question-testing engine included in the CD is the best I have come across.
To guarantee maximum success in passing the exam and or comprehending E-commerce principles make sure you follow the authors "How to use this book section".

This guy really gets it........1999-10-21

From an early age, local busybody Carlsson was involved in various activities designed to call attention to the meaninglessness and deliberately degrading nature of so much work, whether 'menial' or 'professional'. He is a highly intelligent man, but he does not condescend to anyone. This is a very funny volume but a sad one too- there's so much manufactured unhappiness and even abuse at work. Today Carlsson has moved on to an interactive history of San Francisco (called 'Shaping SF') which drained most of his resources. The CD is excellent, and the book should be available. But I miss his other work: taking to task the stupidest and meanest of employers...
