Customer Reviews:
Very thick book is a mile wide and an inch deep.......2007-10-18
This guide has a lot of bulk but not that much substance. Sure, there's a good amount of superficial information that will be helpful to 99% of "straightforward" situations, but if you run your own business, invest in rental real estate, etc, this book will do nothing for you.
You can get a lot of useful information for free from the IRS publications website, and it covers the topic material in more depth and with greater detail. Lasser's guide does add a bit of insight with regard to recent tax dispute rulings and how that might affect the interpretation of some of the IRS codes, but there isn't that much really useful in-depth information.
I thought the Lasser book would be more comprehensive. It certainly is thick enough, but once you look inside its clear that they've spread a modest amount of material very thinly. Just my opinion of course, but for my real estate investment questions, it was absolutely useless to me and I had to go elsewhere. John T. Reed's Agressive Tax Guide is a resource I could recommend for that type of info.
Rather than buy this book, I'd start with IRS Publication 17 "Your Income Tax" and go from there.
Excellent Income Tax Book.......2007-09-19
This book is a great resource and a must have for everyone, even tax professionals!!
Best in the Federal Tax Business.......2007-07-02
"JK Lasser's Your Income Tax 2007" is the best reference book for federal income taxes is the business. They have been publishing tax guides for 75 years. We first learned of this valuable resource when we saw it on an IRS auditor's shelf, many years ago. Since then when working in small public libraries it is the only tax guide purchased for the collection.
Of great value is their coding system: Filling tips-when and how, Planning Reminder gives the tax-payer suggestions for year-end tax strategies, Caution points out pitfalls to avoid, Law Alert indicates a recent change in the law, Court Decision signals new Tax Court rulings, and IRS Alert flags key rulings and announcements, not all rulings that affect the code come from the court-they maybe nothing more than a letter from the IRS. But these letters have influence within the department as to how an item is viewed as to its value as a deductible.
This is one of the big guys from which most smaller books have been devised. The volume is cumbersome as more and more information is packed into it, but it is easy to use with a fantastic index. We have include a diagram of the citation system in our book, because it helps the reader to understand the system of indexing. If it is used correctly you can go directly to the pertinent information for your situation.
Nash Black, author of "Taxes, Stumbling Blocks & Pitfalls for Authors 2007."
The Only Thing It Didn't Do Is My Taxes For Me.......2007-04-11
This is a remarkable series (if every year's book is as good as this one is. It really covers almost every situation with clear examples. Although I still had to seek professional advice concerning K1 forms, clear advice on limited partnerships inside an IRA was almost unavailable anywhere else, so I cannot fault Lasser too much.
Great resource.
Lassers Income Tax 2007.......2007-04-08
Very Good book for anyone doing taxes. Put into language for lay person or professional tax preparers.

Very handy. Buy your accountant a copy!.......2006-03-16
This has been helpful for my husband and me in planning our business, and we purchased a copy for our accountant, since very few really understand the nuances of the horse business.
Official Guide for tax cheats.......2005-12-30
This book is a love it or hate it guide to auditing horse activities. That's why I had to go middle of the road on the review. I believe it is mistakently marketed to legitimate horse stables, breeding farms, training barns and businesses who want to assure themselves that they won't fail an audit. However, if you ARE indeed a legitimate business, this guide probably won't tell you anything you don't already know. This guide's merit is mostly for backyard or recreational horse owners who are attempting to pass their hobbies off as a "business," or those who list their personal horses as a business expense to attempt some extra tax savings. That being said, you know what category you fall into. If your primary business is horses, whether it be breeding, teaching, training, transporting, etc., don't waste your time or money on this one. If however, you are a retiree who would like to try to pass off your 3 backyard nags that you occasionally breed as a "business" read away. And let me know what jail is like in a couple of years =-)
UGH! HARDLY WORTH THE TIME.......2005-09-23
Hardly worth the time and not at all worth the money.

Book Description
Effective management of taxable accounts and portfolios rarely gets the attention it deserves from investment managers and advisers, often leaving investors with a larger-than-necessary tax bite. Tax-Aware Investment Management details new research, new analytic tools, and new thinking that can change that. This book punctures received wisdom and dispels misconceptions about how to account for tax effects; how to allocate assets; how and when to buy, sell, and rebalance; and how to communicate with clients and with other professionals involved in managing their assets. Douglas Rogers, widely considered the authority in this growing field, details the trading strategies and fund evaluation criteria essential to the task and presents critical considerations for investment managers. He also covers the expanding area of separate accounts.
Customer Reviews:
Tax Aware Investing doesn't need to be an oxymoron.......2007-07-10
I have yet to meet a prudent investor that thinks the government would do a better job of spending the money that the investor has accumulated, than they would do spending it themselves.
Doug Rogers' Tax-Aware Investment Management guide is timely. Doug gives you questions to ask your advisor. He provides a historical prospective while injecting humor. Doug even synthesizes the implications of taxation on investment results in a readable fashion.
Wall Street serves institutions (they live in world of relative "better than the benchmark or at least awfully darn close to it so they can keep their job" performance evaluation.
Private clients are often sold what institutions bought 5 or 10 years ago. The individual investor's best interests would be better served by thinking about this topic before, during and after they invest. You can only spend what you have after tax, after fee. I suggest you invest some time in thinking about the wisdom that Doug shares.
Importance of Tax Aware Investing Brought to the Forefront.......2006-03-08
This book could/should be used as a handbook for investment professionals considering tax aware investing. Doug has compiled years of research, insight and practice into a concise "manual" to shed some light on this complicated, and ever-changing aspect of investment management. Billions of dollars are needlessly lost each year from investors' portfolios because investment professionals fail to consider the impact of taxes when constructing and managing investment portfolios.
The book is very well written and organized. Hopefully, more people will realize the importance of taxes on portfolio performance and be drawn to firm's who can add value by having the knowledge and the ability to "play the game". This is especially true in a low return environment where the tax burden can have a meaningful impact in overall returns.

Book Description
Every year, millions of Americans forfeit hundreds of dollars in legal tax savings simply because they underestimate the value of their charitable item donations. ItsDeductible, from the makers of TurboTax®, provides a simple solution to determining fair-market values. Updated annually, with assessments for over 1,000 categories, including jewelry, clothing, baby supplies, small appliances, exercise equipment, toys, and furniture, this easy-to-use workbook shows taxpayers how to accurately value their donated items, eliminating the guesswork and ensuring the full tax deduction to which they are legally entitled. The book also helps readers track and manage other charitable donations, including monetary and property donations, out-of-pocket expenses, and mileage expenses incurred while driving on behalf of a charity. For over 15 years, ItsDeductible called "a revelation" by NBC's Today has been helping taxpayers maximize their deductions and save hundreds of dollars.
Customer Reviews:
Easy to use.......2006-03-28
This book was very helpful and easy to use. Even if the exact item you are interested in isn't included, its value can be calculated based on similar entries.
Its Deductible Workbook Review.......2006-01-17
I was very disappointed in the workbook. I had used the CD method last year which is much more extensive. Many of the items I was interested to deduct were not in the book. I would not purchase it again. It was a waste of money
Good General Information Provided.......2005-10-14
After looking at other reviews of the same book, I still went with it even though everyone agreed that the book was much less complete than it has been in the past. If you need to know how much unique items list for, get the software. The book is extremely general. Many items I had to write-in and ballpark a figure. I chose the book, because it was portable to where I was sorting through our piles and piles of donatable goods. I still found about 90% of the stuff I was donating in the pages of the book.
Great Book With Awesome Information.......2005-09-12
This book is well worth the little amount of money that it costs to purchase. I'll have hundreds of dollars worth of charitable contributions based on the amounts specified in this book. I highly recommend.
Too thin on content and guarantees.......2005-08-25
I have happily used this guide for the past few years now. I am returning this year's guide. As another reviewer noted, the level of detail has gone down dramatically. Men's, Women's, Boy's, Girl's and Infants' clothing prices now are covered in just two pages for all five categories. The "defense guarantee" in the event of an audit question by the IRS has been removed.
I am undecided on whether to put the purchase price of the book toward the software or find another evaluation method.

Product Description
CCH's State Tax Handbook is the perfect quick-answer tool for tax practitioners and business professionals who work with multiple state tax jurisdictions. This handy and affordable reference provides readers with an overview of the taxation scheme of each state and the District of Columbia, as well as multistate charts on income taxes (personal and corporate), sales and use taxes and tax administration. It saves lots of time for busy practitioners, serving as a convenient single source of key state tax information for professionals instead of them having to wade through multiple sources to find this information. The book is set out in four parts, which together paint an overall picture of the states' levies, bases and rates of each tax, principal payment and return dates, and other important information on major state taxes. The State Tax Handbook provides a comprehensive "Taxes by State" section, which helpfully summarizes in one place the tax rules for each state, including key information such as tax rates and filing/payment dates. It details the taxing authorities for each jurisdiction, including addresses, phone numbers, websites and taxes governed by each office. This helpful section also includes a discussion on collection of out-of-state taxes. The major features of each state's revenue system are outlined in uniform arrangement which makes reference from state to state easy. At-a-glance multistate charts detail important issues to assist state tax compliance and planning. More than 120 charts are provided, covering discrete topics such as income tax rates, state corporate and personal income tax reporting requirements, filing extensions, state taxation of passthrough entities; allocation and apportionment, AMT on preference items, manufacturing exemptions, sales for resale, consolidated returns, and estimated tax requirements. The 2007 Edition reflects all state legislative activities affecting corporate and personal income taxes and sales an

Great resource.......2000-06-28
I have been using this book for the past 2 years while both managing an annuity training department and now annuity customer operations. Although I can find other books with annuity info, this book focuses solely on non-tax qualified annuities. It is very specific and does not generalize about various plans. This book has info related to all types of non-qualified annuities (i.e. fixed, variable, equity indexed, and immediate.) It discusses, with great detail, tax ramifictions for certain actions. I was so impressed by this book that I have made several members of my team read this as a goal for their reviews.

Practical Guide to Transfer Pricing Rules and Compliance
ASIN: 0808015532
Release Date: 2006-11-01 |
Product Description
Transfer Pricing Rules and Compliance Handbook is a valuable overview and introduction for those involved in transfer pricing decisions in the United States, as well as foreign tax and business professionals with a need to deal with U.S. transfer pricing rules. It is the perfect introductory book for practitioners new to transfer pricing issues and business executives and financial managers who need to understand these important principles and rules that impact multinational business entities and operations. The book addresses the growing need for a working level of understanding of transfer pricing concepts. Over the last decade, transfer pricing decisions have become more important to multinational entities. The sheer magnitude of potential adjustments, combined with the ability to trigger cross-border tax disputes and the potential to have a material impact on financial reporting, ensures that transfer pricing will remain an area of continued corporate vigilance. Given the potential for transfer pricing decisions to globally impact tax, financial and operational results, it is important that financial and operational personnel at multinational entities who are making transfer pricing decisions possess the information they need. This book includes topics that will help them to make informed decisions. Such topics include: - the U.S. rules governing transfer pricing - how taxpayers can document transfer pricing determinations to avoid disputes - how to manage a transfer pricing examination - post-examination procedural alternatives to resolve transfer pricing disputes, and much more. This book also discusses the advance pricing agreement (APA) procedure, an approach whereby taxpayers prospectively agree with one or more tax authorities regarding their transfer pricing determinations. Finally, it covers the impact of transfer pricing on other tax issues, the impact of transfer pricing on non-tax regulatory issues including customs valuations, Section 404 of
