Book Description

Talking Funny for Money is a two-CD voice-over workshop (with demonstrations by professional voice-over performers), accompanied by an exercise manual and companion text. If you're a person who's been gifted with vocal variety, a hard working actor who wants to expand your casting potential, or just someone who's been told, "You have an interesting sound," you may wish to consider a career in the cartoon/character/looping area of voice-overs. Pamela Lewis, an accomplished voice-over artist and coach, has developed a CD workshop for people who are curious about breaking into the exciting world of "talking funny for money." In this workshop, you will learn: how to assemble a competitive cartoon/character voice-over demo; shortcuts to mastering the most requested dialects, age groups and celebrity impersonations; film looping/dubbing technique and terminology; and the varied employment opportunities in the cartoon/character/looping world. This workshop is an excellent introduction to a creative and lucrative area of voice-overs. As Ms. Lewis puts it, "What could be better than making funny noises for a living?"

5 out of 5 stars A 'Must Have' Guide for Everybody!.......2006-08-21

Boy, does that title ring true! I also noticed on the cover of this book the wording, "Because that hand in your pocket... isn't yours!" You and I know that everybody wants your money in one form or another. However, I discovered some new ways while reading this book that I just finished. It is Written by David W. Latko, who is the co-host for the national radio program, "Money and More". Impressively, David Latko ranks among the nation's top one percent of financial advisors. I can just imagine how 'in demand' he is. He started off in a middle class neighborhood and moved his way up by helping people.

Where do you usually turn for answers with questions regarding investing, real estate, divorce, automobiles, identity theft, and so much more? If you say your family, friends, neighbors, or your own financial advisor, then you REALLY need to read this book to make sure you are steered on the right path. Looks can be deceiving. Do your homework, starting with this book, because it is YOUR money and YOUR financial future you are looking out for. No one else has such a vested interest in your finances as you need to, except for the slime balls mentioned in this book that you have to watch out for who want your money.

David not only presents practical advice in this book. He also shares memorable stories that yank on the heartstrings and gets your blood boiling. Think you are safe from your own family members who are to inherit your money? Think again and take a look at the story examples in this book. If nothing else, you will at least be aware and prepared just in case.

This book would make great gifts for everyone in your life. What better gift can you give them than to make sure they don't make wrong financial decisions that can destroy their future? I'm going to be buying and giving this book to some of my own family and friends as gifts. I am keeping mine to refer to and share with my children when needed. This book is definitely worth it!

... Story example: Willa and Tony, a retired couple who had a horrific experience with their first financial advisor. They came into some money. They had no idea what to do to invest or what to do.

So they solicited some advice from other retired friends. One of them had received a postcard in the mail a week before, and he passed it along to Tony and Willa. It gave the name and number of a financial advisor who worked in a branch office of a major brokerage which they knew of from hearing about it on TV.

In short order, their new advisor "handled" their prosperity problem. He put them into a range of investments that Willa and Tony did not clearly understand. Then, after a month or so of frenetic activity, he stopped calling-or returning their calls.

With their frustration mounting, they mentioned their problem to a person who happened to be a client of Davids. Turns out the other advisor had locked Willa and Tony into investments that carried staggeringly large up-front commissions; others carried long-term (and expensive) surrender charges.

There was little that could be done. The couple were tied into investments that could not be changed without taking a significant financial hit, in the case of Willa and Tony, it was more than a $26,000 loss.

5 out of 5 stars This book should be a part of everyone's collection.......2006-07-11

This book is valuable on so many levels. Not only does David Latko explain those investments such as real estate, and car buying but he also details the financial repercussions of a divorce and its long-term implications.

Latko uses real-life experiences that hit close to home. So many of the problems that he describes are ones that I've encountered or have friends that have encountered them. His advice and knowledge are priceless.

David Latko really knows what he's talking about. This book was an absolute inspiration and savior to me!

5 out of 5 stars Read this book immediately! .......2006-07-11

David Latko's "Everybody Wants Your Money," skillfully outlines the dos and don'ts of asset management. After reading this book I feel like I've dodged a financial bullet. It is so easy to take the easy way out and do as our advisors recommend without looking at the big picture.

Throughout this book, Latko uses numbers and charts to help visualize his arguments. In this way he effectively shows how the decisions you make today will have an impact on your finances in the coming years.

The advice and wisdom that I took from this book are priceless. He is a master of his field and honestly believes that everyone should make informed decisions.

5 out of 5 stars A truly amazing book.......2006-07-11

After reading David Latko's book I realize how trusting most people are. So many of us put the future of our financial stability in the hands of our "advisors." In reality, these people are out to make a dollar too!

Latko does a beautiful job of outlining the typical financial pitfalls that we all face in a way that is not only easy to understand but fun to read.

This is such an important book for everyone to read. Even if you think you have nothing to worry about - this is really an eye opener!

3 out of 5 stars Just another Personal Finance book ..........2005-06-24

Nowadays, Books on Personal Finance abound. This is just another book in the sea of Personal Finance books.

The book walks you through the different aspects of Personal Finance right from setting your personal finance goals to executing those. However, the coverage of the topics is very shallow. The author rarely provides good pros & cons as regards to different choices that are available. Hence it just leaves the reader wondering as to what is the better choice..

The only use of this book is to obtain the "Table of Content" for your Personal Finance pursuits. You can use this "Table of Content" to pursue further in depth discussion elsewhere.

Rather than this book, I would recommend the following books for folks who are just getting started on the Personal Finance front ...

=> The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton (my personal favorite)
=> Personal Finance for Dummies by Eric Tyson

5 out of 5 stars Great Book Jean!.......2003-10-30

I have enjoyed watching Jean Chatsky on TV and have all of her books, although this one is my favorite.

Jean writes in a way that appears as though she is sitting right there and talking to you like your best friend.

I also enjoy the audio version of this book and will play it while going about my household duties or in the car while picking up the kids.

Talking Money is very possibly the best personal finance book out there. I also recommend Jean Chatsky's newest book, "You Don't Have to Be Rich" and any other book by Chatsky that you can get your hands on.

Chatsky is the best!

5 out of 5 stars Finally - a female financial author who understands finances.......2003-10-19

This is not only the best financial book ever written by a female financial author, it is the b est personal finance book period.

You will learn how to buy a home the right way...without getting stuck with a "fixer-upper" (RE: Junk)

You will find the money to fund your childrens college education.

You will find out to how invest for profit.

You will find unique ways to save money and then powerful ways to invest it.

The attacks on Chatsky and comparisons with JBQ are getting old and tiresome. Chatsky is a certified financial advisor. Quinn is a writer. Besides, Chatsky's books actually leave the book racks (RE: They sell)

Talking Money is a good read. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Good, solid advice. On the money........2003-10-18

Having read over a hundred personal finance book, I wasn't sure if I could learn anything new and was hesitant about buying "Talking Money."

To the contrary, Chatsky offers unique advice. Most of the books I have found pretty much say the same thing only in a different way. "Talking Money" is different.

For example, I know a lot of people bought money market funds as the stock market started to slide during President Clintons last administration. But few people know the right kind of money market funds or the differences between them. Some people even bought money market accounts from banks thinking they were the same as a money market fund from a mutual fund company. Fortunately, Chatsky explains the difference and shows you what to shop for.

Her investment advice is also right on and timely but not too surprising, because unlike other female financial authors, Chatsky is qualified to write and teach this subject.

Her advice on how to buy cars the right way will save you thousands over a financial lifetime. Still paying maximum retail because you want "that new car smell" or "don't want somebodelses problems?" Read Chatsky and think again!

"Talking Money" is a good overall personal finance book. Not just for new people, but for anyone and certaintly a better choice than say "Making the Most of Your Money" by Quinn which I saw mentioned here and which is mostly fluff with outdated material.

Chatsky's book is current, compact and loaded with great information.

I also recommend Chatsky's newest book, "You Don't have to Be Rich" which offers a different perspective on wealth building "The Rich and Famous Money Book" also by Chatsky and "The Savage Truth on Money" by Terry Savage who is also qualified to write on the subject of money and offers powerful, pragmatic advice that actually works.

"Talking Money" is a good book and a must read for all interested in truly Making the Most out of There Money.

4 out of 5 stars Get The Edge and Make More Money.......2001-08-26

In Shut Up and Make More Money, Bill Radin provides a well needed reminder to remember the service side of the industry and get paid for remembering it. He provides simple ways to get the edge while maintaining and increasing both professionalism and revenue. Although technically, some of his ways are outdated, a good recruiter will find great resources within this book's pages. Because it's technically outdated, I wouldn't recommend this book for a brand new recruiter. I would, however, recommend it if you'd like to find a myriad of ways to get the immediate edge on your unwitting competition.

1 out of 5 stars Not Quite For Modern Recruiters.......2001-08-07

While much of this material would have been great for the late 80s and very early 90s, with todays phone butlers and very savvy gatekeepers, this book is absolutely no help. The strategies are simply out of date. Buying this book is a waste of money and reading it is a waste of time. I've noted one endorsement on Amazon from another author of books for recruiters. He must be a close friend of Radin and is probably looking for a reciprocal endorsement. Radin does have some great books out there - this isn't one of them.

2 out of 5 stars Not much help.......2001-01-02

Tired concepts, outdated ideas, and transparent gimmicks. I would not use these ideas and if I were a client I would not fall for them. Pretty much a waste of money.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting, but inconsistent.......2000-12-30

Just when I would start to feel I was getting something out of this book, I would see something that was obviously incorrect or misleading. Could use some strong editing. In the end, a disappointment

Book Description

Develop a Winning Investment Strategy -- with Expert Advice from "The Nation's #1 Money Manager"

Peter Lynch's "invest in what you know" strategy has made him a household name with investors both big and small.

An important key to investing, Lynch says, is to remember that stocks are not lottery tickets. There's a company behind every stock and a reason companies -- and their stocks -- perform the way they do. In this book, newly revised and updated for the paperback edition, Peter Lynch shows you how you can become an expert in a company and how you can build a profitable investment portfolio, based on your own experience and insights and on straightforward do-it-yourself research. There's no reason the individual investor can't match wits with the experts, and this book will show you how.

In Beating the Street, Lynch for the first time:

* Explains how to devise a mutual fund strategy

* Shows how he goes about picking stocks, step-by-step

* Describes how the individual investor can improve his or her investment performance to rival that of the experts of the investment clubs.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A study in excellence.......2007-02-15

What a great book of explanation. He gives many of his normal habits to us that are away from all the other advise of investors and financial advisors. His whys may sound old fashioned but look at his record and you will be old fashioned also if you could obtain what he did. I will read any and all of his other books now. I only see one listed at this point but will hope to find him writing more. I have been in the Magellian fund since 1986 and his success has proven itself to me personally.

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining and useful.......2007-02-10

This book is a must-read for anyone interested investing. Peter Lynch ran one of the most successful mutual funds in history, the Fidelity Megellan Fund, which averaged an annual return of 29% during his 13 year tenure. He is also ranked by Wall Street as one of the most successful stock pickers on the planet. In Beating the Streets, Lynch outlines his common-sense approach to stock picking. The approach, labeled as "buy what you know" by Lynch, or investing in your "circle of competence" as referred to by Warren Buffet, is a simple strategy the yields results proven by many successful investors. In his book, Lynch goes through his entire process of stock picking from how he discovers a lead through what numbers he looks at to how he investigates the company behind the stock. I found the book to be an extremely accessible, comprehensive, and practical guide that is written in an entertaining and light-hearted manner. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wasn't born with a fortune in their bank account.

5 out of 5 stars The Lynch Classic--Unbeatable, except perhaps Warren Buffett's Annual Reports.......2007-02-04

Lynch makes lots of good points. One of them is as a small investor you can buy into thinly traded stocks on the way up, such as APCC in the early days.

Big funds simply can't get enough stock to make it "worthwhile," an interesting point, usually overlooked by the pros in their writing.

if you want to know how to invest you don't need this book!

Book Description

The eight cassette in a series of lectures based on A COURSE IN MIRACLES, Marianne Williamson here discusses money and all its ramifications. In her lectures The Meaning of Money and Money Spiritualized, Marianne encourages us to change our thoughts about money, where it comes from and how it's used.

Poverty, or lack of anything, comes from a belief that we are less than what god made us. god's abundance is available to each of us, and by believing this we can change our attitudes toward money, our work in this world and ourselves.

Money is energy and energy is infinite in the universe. by doing what we love to do-and working for love and not for money- we will benefit in many ways, including monetarily. the key is to see money as a neutral entity, neither good nor bad, and find work we love to express God's goodness through our gifts. The money we receive from work can also be used to heal the world through the continuous flow it provides from ourselves to others and back again.

Marianne Williamson continues, to expand the growing international audience for her profound yet down-to-earth interpretations of A COURSE IN MIRACLES, the revolutionary self-study program of spiritual psychotherapy.

5 out of 5 stars Love this!.......2003-03-15

Marrianne Williamson's work is both real and honest. Rather than couch things in a concepts that are alien or extremely religious, she talks to you about the realities of existing. Of how things will not always be easy, about how you will lose your way, and honestly how to see people clearly. Growth is messy, it's not neat, maturity is not easy, nor is spirtiuality delicate work, but with assistance from a tape like this you can see yourself clearly and how to bridge yourself from concept to human to spiritual being.

5 out of 5 stars Mankind's responsibility to God through giving.......2006-04-20

God gave mankind the responsibility to be good stewards of all He has given us. "How To Talk About Money Every Sunday" details those responsibilities with Bible scriptures to support this. I truly believe God gave Rev. Collier the inspiration to write this book and it serves to explain the importance of giving back to God what is His anyway in many different ways. It details how God has blessed us to bless others. A pastor friend has asked to borrow this book to read and share with his congregation.

5 out of 5 stars God's word at work in our daily lives.......2006-04-20

This book provides Christians with solid scriptural text regarding money. I had the opportunity to partake of this accountability tactic because I am a former parishoner of this author's church - Canton United Methodist Church, Canton, Mississippi. It's simply amazing how the word of God works through every aspect of one's life - this book is a true example of that. I look forward to the next book of this kind regrading another subject matter.
