This book helped me get a good start in my Accounting college courses. It lays out the fundamental principles of Accounting simply and clearly. Its emphasis on the process leading to, creation of, and analysis of financial statements, would be very helpful to anyone who may need to understand just what a company's financial statements really mean

Customer Reviews:
Confused.......2007-04-10
I purchased the series to assist in preparation for the upcoming CIA examinations and must admit the books are very confusing. Ideas are presented in a very disjointed manner and I am unable to determine the main trend or ideas shared after having read a couple of pages.
There is also information overload as the ideas do not flow naturally from one to the other, and it takes along time to complete one chapter.
The content is good but the explainations are not very clear as to how they all fit together.
Wiley CIA Exam Review.......2007-03-16
This is an excellent series for assisting in obtaining my CIA. The number of self exam questions really helps in preparing and understanding the concepts. This is a better product then the GLEIM books

Customer Reviews:
Do not take Managerial Accounting without this book.......2007-04-23
This book is what got me through managerial accounting in my MBA program. As a dyslexic mathphobe I was very nervous about taking an accounting class and I was not comforted at all by a professor who only seemed to speak in numbers and a textbook that confused even my friend - the CPA.
This book is clear, concise, and to the point and has tons of exercises/problems with a the answers fully worked out and explained. This book helped me get an A in my class - I highly recommend this book to everyone who needs help in managerial accounting.
Brush up on Part 2 of CMA with this product........2007-01-02
This book is great! It gives you really good examples of cost accounting problems. It includes easy to understand solutions in every chapter. I'm a current CMA candidate and this book helped understand many of costing procedures that I had difficulty grasping in college. Excellent review material!
Advance and Simple!!.......2001-04-10
like other books of SHIM & SIEGEL this book is also very simple for following althoug it is an advance book in the managerial accounting area.

Oracle Financials play a big role in the information infrastructures of many companies, and a solid understanding of that environment can pay very large dividends in consulting work. Oracle Certified Professional Financial Applications Consultant Exam Guide readies you for the four exams (two core and two elective) that make up the Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Financial Applications Consultant track. The book tackles the exams one at a time, explaining what you need to know--conceptually, as well as in terms of software details--about the Oracle Financials environment. The exercises help drive information into your long-term memory, and each chapter is peppered with review questions that help prepare you for what's on the exams.
This is more than a test-prep book, however, and it's likely that you'll be happy with it even if you have no plans to pursue a formal Oracle certification. The large and complicated concepts that underlie Oracle Financials are explained, a difficult job that the book does well. It's also careful to maintain a focus on business objectives, instead of on characteristics of the software itself. One section explains the process of creating a blanket purchase order, properly accounting for the purchases that are made against it, and then releasing individual purchase authorizations under the order's terms. The index is extensive and detailed, so finding the documentation that you need is rather easy. --David Wall
Topics covered: The Oracle Financials suite of applications, with a bit of a bias toward the four Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Financial Applications Consultant tests. The details of the material that's on the Financial Management, Applied Technology, Procurement, and Order Fulfillment exams all appear here, which means that you can use this as a general-purpose Oracle Financials reference, and not only as a study helper.
Book Description
Make a smart career move and begin enjoying all the rewards of OCP Financial Applications Consultant certification! This Oracle-endorsed study guide offers a complete preparation system geared to help you pass your exams with flying colors! Bonus CD-ROM contains more than 300 interactive practice exam questions.
Customer Reviews:
Great introduction to Financials.......2001-06-23
Though the Financials OCP exam is being retired, the Financials package itself remains unchanged. This book is still the best introduction to how to use Oracle Financials.
Exam retires in June 2001.......2001-06-13
The exam this book relates to retires in about 2 weeks from now and Oracle Corporation has not given an indication of what will succeed this exam.
How relevant is the book if I can't use it for the specified exams?
Packed with info.......2000-06-07
Most complete treatment of Financials I've seen. Excellent book.
From Soup To Nuts, This Book Has What It Takes.......2000-05-31
Top notch all the way around. Got me through all five exams. That OCP logo looks mighty good on my resume!
Wow! It contains a lot of information!.......2000-05-27
This is the most thorough book on Financials I've seen. A must-have, whether you're going for the OCP certification or not.

Book Description
Compliance requirements are here to stay.
Prepare your company for the growing challenge.
A Wall Street Journal/Harris poll revealed that two thirds of investors express doubts in the ability of corporate boards of directors to provide effective oversight. In the shadow of recent global scandals involving businesses such as Parmalat and WorldCom, Manager's Guide to Compliance: Best Practices and Case Studies is essential reading for you, whether your organization is a major corporation or a small business.
This timely handbook places U.S. and global regulatory information, as well as critical compliance guidance, in an easy-to-access format and helps you make sense of all the complex issues connected with fraud and compliance.
"Wide perspectives and best practices combined deliver a punch that will knock your 'SOX' off! The author has blended together a critical mix necessary for effectively handling the requirements of SOX."
—Rob Nance, Publisher, AccountingWEB, Inc.
"Robust compliance and corporate governance is an absolute necessity in today's business environment. This new book by Anthony Tarantino is an authoritative guide to understanding and implementing compliance and regulatory requirements in the United States and around the world. From SOX to COSO to ERM, this book covers them all."
—Martin T. Biegelman, Certified Fraud Examiner, Fellow and Regent Emeritus of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and coauthor of Executive Roadmap to Fraud Prevention and Internal Control: Creating a Culture of Compliance
"If compliance wasn't difficult enough, now companies are faced with a barrage of technology vendors claiming to automate compliance as if it were a project. In his new book, Dr. Tarantino paints the reality of the situation: companies need to embrace the broader tenets of governance and use technology to embed governance policies and controls into their daily business processes. Only then can they gain business value from their compliance investments."
—Chris Capdevila, CEO and cofounder, LogicalApps

Reference only.......2007-07-04
Useful as a reference guide, but not something that I would recommend as the first or last read on Compliance. Have kept it around as a great reference document.
very useful book.......2007-03-13
i have just read some chapter such as Sarbanes-Oxley and fast scan the other. I think it is the book which i look for.
Outstanding.......2007-01-24
Prior to reading this book I knew almost nothing about compliance. The book is well written and easy to understand for anyone that has formal accounting education. The book provided a tremendous amount of insight, and was very practical. The book has helped out at work tremendously.
Most Helpful for My Accounting and Auditing Groups.......2006-04-29
As the CFO of a privately held company looking to go public in the next few years this is what we needed to focus our compliance and governance programs.
Essential Reading for My US and Chinese Businesses.......2006-04-29
Dr. Tarantino's book was exactly what I needed to understand the many regulations facing my businesses in the US and China. It will be required reading for my various managers and directors.

Summary with no meat.......2006-08-06
The book is simply a summary outline of the material for the CFP test, which can easily be obtained on the Board's website. Without sufficient detail, I can not imagine how it could be helpful.
Anthony
You get what you pay for..........2006-03-19
Just took the CFP exam yesterday. I'm a quick study, have been in the industry a while, am a CLU/ChFC, so I hoped I could find a condensed study guide that would serve to refresh my memory and allow me to skate through. I'm CHEAP too, so I was hoping I could save some $$$ by not enrolling in a review course.
Fortunate for me, a buddy that passed the exam last year and paid $1,200 for a BISYS review course heard I was taking the test and loaned me HIS books (all 2500 pages) as a supplement to this study guide. Those materials SAVED MY HIDE!!! I would have failed if I relied on this book. The tax data is all outdated and critical to the exam. Even if it were updated, there is still a HUGE amount of material missing that you need to know. Didn't even work for me as an outline. This is a hard test, so don't fool yourself like I did.
Great book!.......2006-03-10
I'm finding this book very useful and i'm happy that it was available at a much cheaper price. Thanks.
Please Don't Waste Your Money Like I Did !!!!!!!.......2005-10-25
I recently spent a bunch of money to take one of the several well established review courses. I purchased this book since it was relatively inexpensive and I thought I would check out the materials as a portable outline.
The book has not been updated since 2003. So much of the material is outdated!! Big problem!!! Need I say more!
Further, Amazon doesn't have a worthy return policy since I purchased this. I might change my review if the price were $5 because it isn't worth anymore.
Avoid Avoid Avoid
Overly brief.......2005-08-06
This book is too brief to be helpful. It is mainly an outline, with not much more detail than the CFP exam topics list. It doesn't serve as a very helpful reference resource because the Table of Contents is too simplistic, and has a very minimal index.

Customer Reviews:
Nice Handbook for Accounting students.......2007-02-20
The book is a nice handbook for students majoring in Finance and Accounting students. It has all the necessary explanations of the formulas along with good examples. As a person with some exposure to Finance and Accounting,I found the book to be extremely useful for students and pros in this field.
Effective refresher ... Efficient reference.......2007-01-07
I recommend this text to financial professionals I teach ... VERY helpful to clear the cobwebs several years after college!
Not just for students.......2002-05-28
This is a reprint of "McGraw-Hill Pocket Guide to Business Finance: 201 Decision-Making Tools for Managers" with a single difference. The now out-or-print book came with a runtime version of MathCAD and formulas for using each of the tools, while this new version does not. Also, don't let the title fool you - this book is as useful to working professionals as it is to students.
The 201 tools contained in this small, highly useful book range from Acid Test (doing a quick ratio of financials) to Z-Scores. Each tool is listed alphabetically, its use explained, and instructions on how to use it is provided. What I particularly liked is the worked examples that accompany each tool.
As an IT consultant who specializes in service delivery this book is not one I would normally include in my professional library. I was introduced to it when a colleague and I were writing a white paper on recovery management. We were searching for a way to link business imperatives to justification for investment in recovery strategies. We found one piece of the puzzle in this book - the Altman Z-Score. This tool predicts whether or not a company is likely to enter into bankruptcy within one or two years. This led to the development of a copyrighted model that addressed survival level objectives, and also became a key part of the Tarrani-Zarate Information Technologies Management Model. All this from a single entry in a small book!
Aside from discovering a relatively obscure, but important, tool I also found other useful tools in this book. Because I am not a business consultant or financial expert the tools were like a cram course in financial management for non-financial people. For example, I was able to apply some of the tools to personal financial matters - the real costs of a loan become quickly apparent when you compute them. I was also able to employ some of the tools to conduct realistic cost/benefit analyses, examine trade-offs supporting approaches to projects, etc. In this respect this small book has significantly improved my professional skills and has inspired me to read other books on financial management.
I strongly recommend this book - collection of tools really - to anyone who deals with finance, anyone who has P&L responsibilities, and business and IT consultants. The latter group will find this book to be invaluable for developing proposals, deliverables and project plans that add value.
GREAT!.......2002-01-12
This book saved me through four accounting courses three finance courses and two real estate courses. It is well organized and easy to locate any formula that is needed.
