Do you communicate ineffectively with some people and powerfully with others? The reason may be a difference in personalities and communication preferences. The Art of Speedreading People is a crash course in communication strategies, showing you how to observe behavioral clues to gain valuable insights into people's personalities and communication styles. The result: you become a more effective and convincing communicator, and you are more likely to receive the response you want.

This book is like a practical communications seminar based on the psychology model called Personality Typing, which is focused on identifying key personality traits in order to communicate most effectively. First, you analyze your own personality type and determine your placement on the scales of extrovert/introvert, sensor/intuitive, thinking/feeling, and judging/perceiving. The book then teaches you about the clues that indicate other people's personality type, including speaking style, body language, and occupation. You test yourself by reading a few scenarios and personality typing the characters described. You put the system to work by learning approaches to "speedreading" people in person and on the phone using skill-building exercises. Finally, you learn how to communicate effectively with people who are a different type or temperament than you. The Art of Speedreading People is intriguing and useful, especially for those who work in a sales, service, teaching, or managerial position, or any job where effective and positive communication is paramount.

Wow, what an eye-opener this book is! I really enjoyed reading this book about human personality and strongly recommend it to everyone. The book compares different personality traits and guides the reader to effectively and efficaciously interact with people regardless of their trait. Wish I'd read this book in high school!

This is a great book for anyone who deals with people. This has plenty of applications in your personal and professional life.

Highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars If you only buy one book on personality type, this should be it.......2006-05-11

I took the Myers Briggs personality test and learned a bit about personality type in communication and psych classes in college. But I wanted to know more. I wondered how I could figure out the personality types of others and use this information to help understand and communicate with others. I came across this book on Amazon and I think I purchased it because of all the great reviews. So I thought I should contribute a great review too. If you only buy one book on personality type I recommend this one. It's a great intro to type and it's very easy to understand. I refer back to it all the time. I also recommend "Just Your Type : Create the Relationship You've Always Wanted Using the Secrets of Personality Type" by the same authors, which matches all 16 personality types with each other, explains how type affects couple's interactions and suggests potential sources of conflict. Also very interesting. I would definitely purchase other books by these authors.

As the first major Photoshop update since Adobe revamped its product line in 2003, this is the release you've been waiting for-and this is the guide that will get you up to speed on it fastest! By focusing on a single topic-what's new in this version-the award-winning author provides precisely what experienced Photoshop users like yourself have been clamoring for, in exactly the depth you demand. Including just enough information about older features to make the new ones understandable, Ben shows you not only which buttons to push but why.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding primer for the Photoshop user.......2007-01-03

Most books go over all the essentials. Even Deke McClelland's find ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS2 ONE-ON-ONE is great at introducing the NEW features and changes. But Ben's book is a quickie, one-day overview of what's new and improved and changed. For the price, there is no better book for someone buying PSCS2 to upgrade from any older version (like I did, from quaint old Photoshop 5.5). Full color pictures and clear typography -- making it easy to go back and review -- just make this book a steal at Amazon's discounted price. Get it!

Title: Photoshop CS2 : Up to Speed
Author: Ben Willmore
Publisher: Peachpit Press
Number of pages: 171
ISBN: ISBN: 0321330501
List Price: $24.99

Photoshop CS2 - Up to Speed was written for users of Photoshop CS (v8.0)who plan to or have just upgraded to CS2. The longer you have been using CS the more you will appreciate and benefit from this book. Expert Photoshop user/author/teacher Ben Willmore had access to the Adobe Photoshop design team to review chapters and technical issues which resulted in an in-depth
and accurate detailed description of the changes made in CS2(v9.0).

Each chapter starts out by providing an overview, and a section called "Where's My Stuff". From there each topic in the overview is explained in detail. Visually the book is well written and easy to read - using bold colored text, and colored screen
captures (with additional descriptions below each screen capture). Occasionally the small screen captures can be difficult to read. There is an overwhelming amount of information contained within each chapter. Ben covers all types -what's new, what's changed, what's been removed, changes to menus and keyboard shortcuts.

The 1st chapter provides lots of details on Bridge but may be better served from a DVD based video explanation. Bridge is a very visual application. The 2nd chapter on General Tweaks covers numerous miscellaneous tweaks that is a must read for
CS2 upgrade users. Chapter 3 covers the new Layers palette in fine detail. Chapters 4 and 5 on Smart Objects and Variables respectively are worth the price of the book alone - well done Ben. Chapter 6 covers small gems (WYSIWYG Font Menu, Smart Guides, Animation Palette, Swatches, PDF-X, Adobe Stock Photos) sufficiently. From here the next chapters cover photographic related topics (Camera Raw 3, - High Dynamic Range imaging, Retouching & Filter Enahancements, Small Gems). These chapters are clearly explained through a thorough use of screen captures and photos.

Summary: If you are a long time photoshop CS user then this is the 1st book you should buy and read. Ben covers every area (except ImageReady which had esssential no changes and Version Cue) in great detail and leaves no area untouched. Since there is an overwhelming amount of information (changes) described in this book (that's a good thing) I would suggest while and or after reading each chapter to bring up CS2 and go over the information just covered. Also, you do not need to read the book in the order in which it was written. Choose the areas you are interested in most first then come back to the other chapters. Finally, if there is one suggestion I would make to the author for the next version of "Up to Speed" consider creating a DVD based visual guide to describe the changes going from CS2 to CS3 to accompany/supplement the written book.
Overall I highly recommend this book for the target audience just described and the price of the book with an online discount is a bargain.

5 out of 5 stars Ben Wilmore Does it Again.......2006-05-18

Ben Wilmore is one of the foremost Photoshop trainers in the world. When he has time, he writes articles he sends to his photoshop mailing list (well worth joining). His tips are always on target and have provided me with extremely valuable insights into using Photoshop.

If you are a novice with Photoshop, or have never used a version before CS2, this isn't the best book for you. Willmore assumes you have substantial experience with Photoshop CS. However, if you are a CS user who is moving up to CS2, this book is an invaluable guide to the many new features in CS2. I have found this book extremely helpful and very readable. As usual, Wilmore's style is clear, easy-to-read, and the color illustrations very helpful. No, I don't get a cut of his royalties, I just love it when I find a reference that is truly worth the price!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Buy.......2006-02-25

This book does exactly what it says on the cover, and it does it extremely well. It has been my constant source of reference for the past three weeks as even the often neglegted Index is well thought out.
I was always a big fan of the File Browser and was sorry to see it replaced in CS2 by the Bridge, which I must admit it took me some time to get my head round (where has the Desktop gone?) until this book came along. Ben goes through it in great detail, as he does with everything, and I now find it a breeze.
Everything new, and everything moved or hidden, is covered in a very well explained and simplistic style accompanied by detailed illustrations. The presentation and layout of the book is absolutely superb, and for anyone with a knowledge of Photoshop, moving up from CS to CS2 this book must be at the top of the shopping list.
It is not for anyone coming straight into Photoshop at CS2 level

5 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone upgrading - or thinking of upgrading.......2005-12-09

The biggest challenge to anyone upgrading to a new version of an application is figuring out what's new. Willmore makes this easy. In a clear, concise format, he lays out exactly what's new in CS2, from the relatively mundane to the great new hidden features that you wouldn't likely find without a tour guide like this.
It's important to note that this is not a beginner's guide. The very format of the book should make this clear, but this isn't a starting point for someone looking to learn Photoshop - it's a book for people that are already familiar and comfortable with Photoshop who, as the title says, just need to get "up to speed" with the latest release of Photoshop.

Book Description

There's a time bomb on the web: user patience. It starts ticking each time someone opens one of your pages. You only have a few seconds to get compelling content onto the screen. Fail, and you can kiss your customers and profits goodbye.

You can't count on fast connections either. Most of your customers are still sucking content through a 56K straw. You have to serve up greased lightning or they'll bail. That's why you picked up this book. In it you'll learn how to cut file sizes in half. You'll trim (X)HTML, CSS, graphics, JavaScript, multimedia, and bandwidth costs. Real-world examples illustrate techniques with before and after code and percentage savings. After reading this book, you'll know how to make your pages literally "pop" onto the screen.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Shorter html and css at all costs?.......2005-12-13

Description

The book has six parts.
The first part says that because web users are willing to wait for at most eight seconds and many use a 56.6Kbps modem, web pages should be at most 30KB in size.
The second part lists tricks how to write shorter html.
The third part lists tricks how to write shorter css and javascript.
The fourth part discusses graphics and multimedia optimization.
The fifth part explains methodically how to make your web come up high in search engines.
The sixth part details some server-side tricks for Apache.

Comment

This book concentrates almost exclusively on sending fewer bytes from the server to the browser. It gives a large collection of tricks how to write shorter html, xhtml, css, and javascript. Some of these tricks are useful. Others however go against standards, and some seriously go against maintainability. I'd be reluctant to give this book to my team. One may be tempted into shaving off bytes, spending a big effort and yet producing unmaintainable code. Unless one has a strong sense of relevance, one can be caught up in technical dispersion.

If you want to send fewer bytes, standard gzip-compression is far better than eliminating line-breaks and indentation.

The book does not go into server-side programming. It is oriented towards optimization of static pages.
With this orientation, King makes some bad recommendations. For example, he recommends writing javascript without comments, rather then recommending server-side comments that are not sent to the browser.

The book predates AJAX-like techniques.

Who should read it?

The book is useful for the person that writes the html that will be sent to the browser, if that person has a good sense of relevance.

2 out of 5 stars Usually reviews are a good for steering my purchases, this time I ended up way off course........2005-11-23

I can't argue with the strengths of the book which is detailed in the number of excellent reviews here, as they are all true. I bought the book based on those reviews, and while they are true, I still feel cheated.

In today's world, where "standards based" coding is becoming more prevalent and adherance to the W3C standards for HTML coding is being recommended, this book just grated on me. While there is a great deal of great information, there are also a large number of "gotchas" to watch out for as well.

The book proposes to use HTML tags without their corresponding closing tags, not to use required elements whenever possible, avoid using quotes in HTML tags, and many other ways of creating "non-valid" code. This will "optimize" your code a bit more by reducing the characters in it, but it will also create problems for you in the future.

In summary, while the book does give alot of good information, it often steers you away from standard code. If you are unsure what is considered "standard" and required for creating valid XHTML/CSS, you are best served skipping this book as it will teach you to create invalid code. If you know enough about XHTML/CSS to ignore those parts, it's a great book.

5 out of 5 stars Grab this book to save bandwidth and improve speed!.......2004-07-18

King has some amazing insights and tips on how to get your website to respond faster. Your clients will be happy, your ISP company will charge less and your site will be faster.

The bandwidth you will save on a single month will cover the costs of this great reference. Plus, you get a good overview of search engine visibilty.

5 out of 5 stars Best practical web performance optimization guide available.......2004-06-09

Covering a wide variety of techniques, this book describes many of the common causes of slow pages and how to avoid or remedy them. While not specific to load testing, it is a valuable reference for those who have the task of making a site faster. Many of the methods provided here are simple but rarely implemented - they should be!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST read for every web designer and developer!.......2004-04-11

When the GUIguy reviews books, it is usually with the intent of reading fairly quickly to get a sense of the author's approach, their writing style, and the value of the content.

When I picked up Speed Up Your Site: Web Site Optimization, an amazing thing happened: I was captivated by the content and the style. Amazing! A first! I found myself reading every word and every line of code, lest I miss some gem hidden within the letters.

Andy King's basic premise is clearly stated: "At current bandwidth-to-CPU speed ratios, bandwidth is the limiting factor." Therefore, optimization of code is vital for a well-received web site.

Sure, that's easy to write, but how do you do it?! The author meticulously goes through many, if not all of the ways code can be streamlined, addressing HTML, XHTML, DHTML, CSS, and even more.

As for style, you can almost hear the author talking; the conversational tone pervades the tome. The book is a delight to read, and the text is peppered with subtle and not-so-subtle humor like "Link to external style sheets site-wide to cache in." Even code snippets are occasionally injected with nostalgia and rib-ticklers. (There is a reference to Burma Shave signs-search the web if you don't know what that is- and even the Emperor with No Close. (sic))

And for those who wonder why all this optimization is important, the author opens with two chapters on the Psychology of Performance, with well-researched excerpts and citations from human factors writings. The forward is even written by usability guru Jakob Nielsen.

There is a companion site (http://www.speedupyoursite.com) that contains all the code along with all the references, chapter summaries, chapter excerpts, color figures, etc. After all, web sites are living documents, and having all this information on a web site allows it to be updated easily.

The only flaw that I found with the book is that there is no accompanying CD. I would love to be able to search the complete text for suggestions and tips that I probably won't remember when I need them-like when I redo my own web sites, a job that I must undertake now that I have read this book.

Book Description

Is it true, as the novelist Cees Nooteboom once wrote, that memory is like a dog that lies down where it pleases? Where do the long, lazy summers of our childhood go? Why, as we grow older, does time seem to condense, speed up and elude us, while in old age, significant events from our distant past can seem as vivid and real as what happened yesterday? Douwe Draaisma, author of the internationally acclaimed Metaphors of Memory (Cambridge, 2001), explores the nature of autobiographical memory. Applying a unique blend of scholarship, poetic sensibility, and keen observation, he tackles such extraordinary phenomena as deja-vu, near-death experiences, the memory feats of idiot savants, and the effects of extreme trauma on memory recall. Raising almost as many questions as it answers, this fascinating book will not fail to affect you at the same time as it educates and entertains. Douwe Draaisma is Professor of the History of Psychology in the Department of Theory and History of Psychology at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. He has published books on time and memory and his articles have appeared in professional journals as diverse as Annals of Science, Psychological Medicine, and Nature. The original Dutch version of Why Life Speeds Up As You Get Older has won several scientific and literary awards.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Writing and the arrow of time.......2005-06-12

This is a truly wonderful book, from which I have received many inputs for my own scholarly endeavours. Here I would just like to point out what is probably a slip of the keyboard, on p. 211 of the English edition. In the formula "'before' to the left of 'after'", occurring twice, in the first occurrence 'left' should presumably be 'right'. Writing from the right to left, as Israelis do, does indeed seem to suggest a different direction of the flow of time.

5 out of 5 stars Evaluation of Our Real Memories.......2005-02-26

Every psychiatrist has some quick tests to check on how your memory is working: reciting digits forward and backward, recalling the presidents sequentially, remembering three objects after three minutes, and so on. Such functions of memory are important, but they are not what we think of as real, personal memory, the subjective recall of what has gone on in our lives, the family reunions, childhood joys and traumas, successive homes, and so on. These stored personal experiences form our "autobiographical memory." It has only been known as such for about twenty years, basically because the other types of memory (like digit recall) have been more easily subject to psychological testing. The autobiographical memory is the main subject of essays in _Why Life Speeds Up as You Get Older: How Memory Shapes Our Past_ (Cambridge University Press) by Douwe Draaisma (translated from the Dutch by Arnold and Erica Pomerans). There are surprisingly few hard answers in this book. In writing about the near-death experience, for instance, Draaisma says that examining the hypotheses that might explain it makes clear that "... all they amount to is a handful of conjectures, a few statistical links and suggestive analogies." Nonetheless, our autobiographical memories are such an integral part of ourselves that it is fascinating to learn how scientists have been trying to explain just how this vital part of personality operates, and how much of the memory capacity that we take for granted is still mysterious and beyond even initial probes.

To start with, despite the book's title which is taken from just one of its chapters, there is not a fully accepted reason for older people to think that life is going faster for them than it did when they were younger. William James himself in 1890 explained that in youth, there were novel experiences, something new every day, but every passing year brought routine which smoothed the days, weeks, and years into a collapse of time. A period full of memories, viewed in retrospect, seems to expand and be fuller and longer. There is a chapter to examine the universal phenomenon that that none of us remember our earliest year or two, not at all. "We shall have to wait and see if our life ends with memory loss," Draaisma writes, "what is certain is that it starts with it." We did have working memories at the time; we were adding buckets of words to our vocabularies, and we had a daily capacity of remembering our relatives, our pets, our routines. A possible explanation for the veil drawn over the first years of memory is that the child has yet to develop full consciousness; if there is no "I" within, there can be no autobiographical memory.

As befits an expert writing for laymen, Draaisma writes powerfully using comparisons. In discussing the "tip of the tongue" phenomenon, where you remember you know something but cannot remember the thing itself, he writes that there is something that has stayed back in the memory, "something like the discoloured patch on the wall whose outlines tell you what used to hang there for years." There is a good range of chapters here to cover aspects of an appealing subject, including the memory and calculating power of so-called idiot savants, the "flashbulb memory" that enables us to tell exactly (or maybe not) what we were doing when we heard of an earth-shattering event like the 9/11 attacks, the scientific evaluation of déjà vu, the examination of why smells can produce such evocative memories, a checkers grandmaster explaining (or being unable to explain) how he plays multiple blindfold games simultaneously, and why we remember humiliating memories so clearly and permanently. It is fascinating that with such tools as brain scans, we are getting closer to understanding how the mind works, but the memory we take for granted every day has barely begun to yield its secrets.

4 out of 5 stars Worth the money and your time ..........2005-08-25

I have read author David Blatner's book on quark and being very familar with that program, I found his book on moving to indesign immensely helpful. You get great tips on how to do things that you have already established in your quark workflow. The index is well organized and a quick reference.

1 out of 5 stars Not well organized.......2005-08-24

Hard to find what I wanted. Preferred the Sams All in One for Creative Suite 2. Much easier to navigate. This book was a waste of money.

5 out of 5 stars It Moved Me!.......2005-08-03

As always with a Blatner book, this guide delivers exactly what it says it will. I was up and running in InDesign in no time and continue to reference its succinct text as I work. I recommend this to anyone who knows Xpress and wants to get InDesign going in a hurry.

4 out of 5 stars For all the switchers to InDesign.......2004-11-01

Many or those who switch to Adobe InDesign from QuarkXpress or PageMaker these days. Those who do might not need a book about everything that InDesign is and is able to do. What they need is a book about the differences in techniques between the applications. Then this book is a good choice. It compares how things were done in QuarkXpress or PageMaker to how it is done in InDesign. If you also want to dig a bit deeper into InDesign you buy both this book and Real World InDesign CS. If you only want to get started and get over the obstacles with changing to new application that in principle does what you have done for years in that other application, but in another way than what you are used to, you chose this book.

I warmly recommend this book, and I use it in courses for switchers to InDesign.

5 out of 5 stars Good program works at many levels.......2006-08-01

I really like this program. It is a nice mix of on bike exercises, off bike exercises, diet and inspiration. I have not completed the program as yet but I am sure that it will deliver the results promised if followed faithfully.

4 out of 5 stars Getting re-acquainted with my bike.......2006-07-23

After buying a new fast bike, I wanted to be able to ride it fast. I'm half way through the 10 week program and I have found this book practical and motivating. Well worth reading and following the plan.

4 out of 5 stars Ideal Cycling Training Manual for Working Professionals.......2006-03-21

If you're attempting to balance your work, family and a desire to "ride fast" for the first time or just simply to ride fast again, then this is the book for you! It's affordable and provides meaningful tips you can share / enjoy with local club rides. Harr has intelligently written a quick-read that's filled with realistic suggestions and guidance to reach athletic conditioning needed to 'ride fast.'

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL.......2006-03-20

My boyfriend bought this book for me as a gift. We both watch Eric Harr every week on CBS in San Francisco and we think he's great. We bought his triathlon book and completed our first triathlon together last summer, so we'd thought we'd give this book a try. Eric Harr is motivating, inspiring and he delivers a lot of good information in this book. I've been "on the program" for 3 weeks now and I am feeling strong and confident on my bike. Most of all, it's fun. I'm just having fun riding my bike and that, to me, is the best part of what Eric Harr delivers. Thank you for a great read.

5 out of 5 stars "Re-cycling".......2006-03-16

Mr Harr has done it again! He has created a "how to" step-by-step manual/guide that is able to communicate not just a knowledge of the mechanics but also the PASSION of the sport and the experience involved in mastering it. Excellent job!!

Book Description

From the heartbreak of giving up one's driver's license to the joys of geriatric dating, Nardi Reeder Campion brings her distinctive mix of wit and candor to the subject of aging. The eighty-eight-year-old author approaches the challenges of growing older with imagination and an undimmed zest for life, from exercises that improve one's memory ("for me, memory is the thing I forget with") to creative solutions to being carless in rural America (she does not recommend hitchhiking).

Campion considers with amusement both the things that change (society's attitudes toward sex) and those that remain the same (her own inability to use the f-word). She shares her love of tea and travel, her pleasure in family and friends, and her ongoing frustration at her penchant for losing items large and small, worthless and precious. And she introduces us to some notable people she has met along the way whose influence she continues to feel.

Whether inviting her retirement home neighbors to watch a belly-dancer or taking a long-dreamed-of trip to Paris and Normandy at eighty-six, Campion shows that aging can be both funny and fun. If you or someone you know happens to be aging, this book is for you.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars wondefully engaging.......2007-01-03

I read this as my own parents aged. I loved every page and had some laugh out loud moments. It is breezy, light and poignant. I immediately bought another book by author and gave this one to my mother- who years ago knew the author but had never read any of her books. My mother in turn gave the book to her retirement center library.

5 out of 5 stars Humor and Laughter Happens.......2006-08-03

Nardi Campion, a prolific NH writer, gives the aging process a light and humorous observation as she ages. On the other side of 65, I laughed my way through the book because I can relate to what Nardi tells us. She is enjoying her later years in a beautiful community, most familiar to a lot of people--Lebanon near the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. Her abandonment of driving gave me ideas to apply to my mother-in-law who is 90. She is feisty and determined to do everything she can without help, if possible. The opportunities are endless when one way to do things no longer work. The episode of her hitchhiking was too much. Perfectly sane in that area of our state. She describes aging as the epitome of living. I highly recommend this book if aging is of concern. Marion E Cason, Reviewer

5 out of 5 stars Learning Paths Teach You How To See Training In A New Way.......2004-09-20

"Learning Paths" by Rosenbaum and Williams takes an innovative look at training and how people develop beyond "graduation day" to "independence day". This book is chuck full of great ideas that anyone with basic training and curriculum development ability should be able to implement within 30 days. My three favorite ideas: shorten the training cycle time to get people productive quicker, proficient at what they need to do, not just trained with skills/competencies. Secondly, the 30/30 jump start CD Kit helps you actually do what they suggest .. I love it. And finally, this book will help those who want to make the transition from trainer to performance consultant, helping get real business results. I can't wait for the follow-up "field book" on learning paths.

5 out of 5 stars Really Different and Unique.......2004-08-29

This book describes an approach to training that is really different and unique. I can see how to use it with my consulting business to organize and get more out of corporate training initiatives. I highly recommend it to anyone in HR, Training or Management. The book is written in a very friendly and easy to read manner.

5 out of 5 stars Very Timely, Very Practical.......2004-08-28

This book will help anyone build more effective and measurable training. It's approach to measuring and reducing time to profieincy is truely unique. If you've been asked to link training to six sigma or ROI, you'll find answers in this book. With the CD and the tool kit, it makes it simple and easy to implement the methodology.

Book Description

We’ve received some complaints about the binding of this book, Adobe Photoshop CS3: Up to Speed, falling apart and investigated the issue with our printer. We’ve inspected the remaining inventory in our warehouse and as far as we can determine the bindings are fine. If you have a defective copy please contact us at: http://www.peachpit.com/about/contact_us/ and choose “defective” from the drop down menu. We would be happy to send you a replacement copy if the binding of the book you purchased is no longer intact. - Glenn Bisignani, Product Marketing Manager

This must-have guide goes right to the heart of Photoshop CS3--what has changed, what is new, and how you can get the most out of the features as quickly as possible. Rather than sift through hundreds of pages detailing every last Photoshop feature and function (both old and new), you can go directly to the new features that interest you the most and get the explanations you desire in the classic Ben Willmore style--intuitive, crystal clear, and in-depth. By focusing on a single topic--what's new in this version--the award-winning author provides precisely what experienced Photoshop users have been clamoring for, in exactly the depth they demand. After reading this book--even if you've been using CS3 for a while--don't be surprised to hear yourself say, 'I didn't know CS3 did that!' In addition to learning the new features in no time flat, a welcome side effect of learning from Ben is that you can expect to become a better, faster and more efficient Photoshop user.

5 out of 5 stars Uptospeed Photoshop CS3.......2007-10-10

Having read Ben Willmore's "Uptospeed Photoshop CS2" and having attended one of Ben Willmore's Photoshop Seminars, I find "Uptospeed Photoshop CS3", excellend and a great reference book.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best way to upgrade from CS2 to CS3.......2007-09-27

This is the second time I buy a photoshop up to speed book and again its is great. The book is full with all the new features written very well, packed with all the new short cuts and tweaks.

This is a must have for any one upgrading to photoshop cs3!!!

5 out of 5 stars Just what it says it is.......2007-09-05

This book is aimed at an audience familiar with Photoshop2 and Bridge and in that capacity it is excellent. There are so many big changes with the upgrade to CS3 that I think it would have taken me forever to stumble through them on my own. The book was very helpful. However, this is not a book for new users of CS3. It is limited to the upgrade changes from CS2 to CS3.
My only complaint about the book is that the binding on my copy is horrible. The darn thing is falling apart.

4 out of 5 stars Some constructive criticism (literally;-).......2007-08-28

As everyone has reported: the book is terrific, the binding is trash; however there is a fix. After my book fell apart in several places, I carefully separated and arranged all of the pages. A trip to my local Staples store (any other major office supply store would likely work as well) to have the book spiral bound nicely remedied the problem. (Additional cost - less than $4.00)

5 out of 5 stars Upgrading to CS3? This is the one book you need........2007-08-22

For anyone upgrading from CS2 to CS3 (or even from CS), this is the one book that will get you fluent faster than any other book. Don't let the relatively slim size of the book fool you. Ben packs in all the information so that you can figure out how to take advantage of the new interface, with the new Palettes, the Dock, and how to most efficiently use it. The new Bridge interface and features is covered in depth, as is Camera Raw 4, the new look for layer, improvements to Curves (after all these years), Vanishing Point, the Quick Selection tool, and all the rest. I got Ben's last version of this book when CS2 came out and it helped me master the new features in a few days, rather than weeks. If you've read the articles, seen the NAPP videos (great, at photoshopuser.com, but lacking the detail of this book) and you are ready to get seriously into CS3, this book will take you there.

This book is for all levels and styles of guitarists. "Finger Gymnastics" is a term used for warm-ups, stretching, and any type of practice exercise that develops technique and stamina while preventing technique related injuries. The exercises in this book are time-tested and will keep your technique at its optimum while helping to ensure injury-free performance. The enclosed CD presents three versions of the exercises in chapters I and II, each version more advanced than the preceding one. In chapter III, bass and rhythm accompaniments are included for many of the examples. Matching the pitch and articulation with a rhythm background will not only assist in warming up, stretching, and building stamina, but will make your practice a more pleasurable experience.
