FOUR GIRLS TOUCHED BY SPECIAL GIFTS.
FOUR STUNNING NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERS -- -
TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME
Cinnamon...She escaped her family's turmoil by dreaming of imaginary worlds. But it's her talent for the theater that gives Cinnamon a chance...to truly escape.
Ice...To her mother's dismay, she was a silent wallflower, not a social butterfly. Now, her secret gift -- her solid-gold singing voice -- may become her saving grace.
Rose...When she danced, she could dream -- and when her father's secrets threatened to destroy her world, a most unlikely person gives Rose the courage to follow her heart.
Honey...Raised on her strict grandfather's farm, her natural-born talent for the violin gave her a new life -- and love with a handsome soul mate. Will a shocking revelation shatter her newfound happiness?
Customer Reviews:
Four Talented Young Ladies.......2004-05-24
This book was about four young ladies who came out of their shells. Cinnamon did a beautiful job performing on stage. I think she deserved to get the last laugh on the girls who resented her for taking the lead role. Ice got what she wanted a chance to be herself. She made friends with a piano player. Rose was grieved when her dad died. She felt better about herself when she helped Evan get out and meet people. Honey liked to play the violin which her uncle Peter taught her to play. She enjoyed having a good relationship with Chandler.
What the ***?.......2004-04-21
Why take four godawful mini books and make them into one, horrendous novel? I suspect it's about the money. If you want to waste your money, go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, if you want to be smart and save, don't bother. As Simon Cowell would say - this is absolutely dreadful.
Fascinating.......2002-12-18
This book truly compliments the series. I do recommend that you read the other 4 books in the series. This book combines all four books, and tells of rise to fame. If you are a true VC Andrews lover then this book is for you.
Customer Reviews:
For true fans.......2005-03-17
This book will be appreciated by true T&D addicts, although switching back and forth between their two voices made it seem mildly disjointed.Details of the unglamourous side of life on the road gave a realistic perspective. Not bad,but it somehow left me wanting more.A great deal of trivial details without alot of the substance such a book could have had.Fans will enjoy it,casual readers may not...
Finally, we find out what happened at the 1994 Olympics!.......1997-03-07
Thoroughly satisfying account of this famous ice-skating
pair's beginnings and career, leading up to the 1994
Olympics and beyond. This book provides wonderfully
intimate insights into how Chris and Jayne think and behave
on and off the ice. Their fans will devour this
long-overdue book, which answers many questions we have
about Torvill and Dean: Were they ever romantically
involved? What did they really think about winning the
bronze medal at the 1994 Olympics? Will they retire in the
near future? Newcomers to the iceskating world will learn
the fascinating quirks and coincidences that paved the road
to championship for this pair.

The Second Mark: Courage, Corruption, and the Battle for Olympic Gold
ASIN: 0740703242 |
Book Description
Scott Hamilton is one of the most beloved figure skaters in the world-not just among his colleagues, but to the sport's countless fans as well. So when the Olympic gold medalist and four-time World Champion launched his "Stars on Ice" tour back in 1986, everyone wished him the best. In fact, the best is exactly what he got. Hamilton's "Stars on Ice" has become the most successful ice skating tour on the planet. In this lively look at figure skating's most remarkable success story, Stars on Ice features full-color illustrations of the graceful skaters who have entertained fans throughout the show's reign. From Dorothy Hamill to Brian Orser, from Katarina Witt to Kristi Yamaguchi, Stars on Ice beautifully displays the talents of Olympic and World Champion skaters through stunningly realistic photography. In addition, behind-the-scenes vignettes from the tour reveal the heartfelt camaraderie and sense of family felt among the skaters. From the tour's early days of opening night fiascoes to the tragically unexpected loss of Sergei Grinkov to Scott Hamilton's own battle with cancer, Stars on Ice tells a tale of a sport that has touched fans like no other.
Customer Reviews:
Good text, Better photos :-).......2000-07-22
Wonderful coffee-table style book documents the tour "Stars On Ice", and is a definite choice for fans of professional figure skating. The brilliant photographs, a perfect balance of personal and professional, out-do the text...which is good but could be more profound over-all. In addition to the other stars, Gordeeva & Grinkov fans especially will enjoy the memoir and the pictures...Lipinski, Kulik, Chen, Cousins, and Meno-Sand fans might be disappointed in the only 6 pages devoted to those skaters. A little short but well worth the photos!
Breath taking.........1999-11-01
This book was what i expected it to be. It was full of colorful pictures, and very good description of how Stars on Ice evolved to what it is now. GREAT pictures excellent story....though if u were thinking of getting the video "The Best of Stars on Ice" ... it wasnt good at all. They were performances from the last 5 years and not the 10 years it talks about on its back cover..
Excellent work about how Stars On Ice evolved into The Tour!.......1999-10-18
Reason why I bought the book: Just one. Rosalynn Sumners. She was rather reluctant when Scott called her and invited her to join the tour......and that was back in 1986. Thirteen years and a few hundred shows later, Roz has matured into one of the finest entertainers on the ice. Her departure from the SOI tour after the 1998-99 season was rather sad, but rereading her thoughts and feelings on subjects such as Sergei's death to Scott's cancer and her own shining moments was well worth the money I paid for the book. Roz, I'll miss you when SOI starts the 1999-2000 tour. God bless!
Great photos.......1999-08-18
This book has lots of great photos pf all the skaters. A must for every SOI fan.
Brings You Close To Katia and SOI!!.......1999-05-05
I thought this was an absolutely fantastic book!!! It really gets you up close and personal with the World's Greatest Skating Tour, and I loved the chapter in tribute to Sergei Grinkov. Lots of terrific pictures from all the programs through the years!! It starts out with the story of how Stars On Ice got started, and tells about the earliest skaters, all the way up to today's performers (like my favourite, Katia Gordeeva). This book is a must-have for any fan of SOI and skating in general. You will definately have to see the show in person, after this book!!!

Daft Names R Us.......2005-03-15
First of all, I think this whole "let's give the heroine a silly name just because we can" business has got WAY out of hand. I've known plenty of people called Jade and Rose, and I've heard of people called Cinnamon, Honey and so on, but I think Ice is just a name they made up. (Please note- if you actually know someone called Ice please accept my apologies.)
Anyway, this Ice character. Well, as I've said before, these mini-books aren't really about having a story- they're more about establishing character and leading up to the main book. She's established as being very shy, and only really using her voice to sing, not talk (is this sounding like "Little Voice" to you? Anyway). She's very prudish and sensitive, but then that's not too unusual in a Virginia Andrews character. She's also a non-stereotypical black character. You know how a lot of her other black characters (Pheobe, Star and so on) have short tempers and are always trying to pick a fight? Well, not Ice. Which makes a nice change.
Throw in romance, a tarty mother, a wise father and a lot of jazz references and... Well, like I said, there isn't much of a story. But if the character sounds appealing to you, go read the book.
I think they should call the next heroine Apple. Just because.
a fine book.......2004-03-30
i don't see that this book is a bad one , in fact i find it much nicer than cinnamon which was a little bit silly about the spirits thing...ice is a very touching story, the only drawback i think was that it's short.
I'd give it ZERO stars if I could.......2003-07-25
After buying Cinnamon, I swore I would never buy another stupid minibook ever again. Well, one night I was in the grocery store and, for reasons unknown to even myself, I wound up tossing this little thing in my shopping cart. Thankfully, this was the book that cured me of ever buying another V.C. book again without reading some excerpts first. There aren't words to describe how horrendous this book was. I couldn't even finish it. I wound up skimming to the end to see what traumatizing event would afflict Ice. It's a shame, because Ice's story had promise. I bet the real V.C. Andrews would've made a wonderful full-length novel (for adults, no less) out of it. Sadly, that can never happen. Unless you are under the age of 13, I'd advise you to skip this tired mess.
The review of Ice.......2002-05-30
This story is about a young girl named Ice. She has parental problems. Her mom has a drinking problem and always makes Ice feel bad about herself. Her father always wants another child. Then Ice's mom claims that he is just trying to make her unattractive, but I don't think he is. So Ice has problems and tries to get though them is her own ways.
I loved this book. The reason is because I also have problems, but not as harsh as hers. Ice was a very interesting charter in this story. She always listened to others though her thin walls of her apartment. She can do this because her parents don't come home until later at night. This was one of her ways that she learns about life. To me this was a very interesting way to learn. These are all of the ideas that made me like this book so much.
The reason why I chose this book is because of the cover that looked so cool. I also loved the title and how someone would name their child "Ice". The story was exactly what I was looking forward to be reading about. The last reason why chose this book is because I like the way that V.C Andrews writes.
The second book in the SHooting Stars Series.......2002-03-11
I was very wary on reading this book as a result of all the negative reviews. But scrolling down to some of the more earlier ones I realized that I should give it a chance and I wasn't really disappointed. Ice is an entertaining novel to the series that deserves 3 or 4 stars (since I like the series so much I gave it the benefit of the doubt and gave the book 4 stars instead of 3). Ice tells the story about a shy teenager named Ice. When Ice is very young her school psychologist gives her the label elective mute because it seems like she chooses never to speak and in so many ways that is true. At 17, she lives with her narcissistic mother and her silent father and very rarely talks herself. The only time she ever really opens her mouth is to sing in her church choir or sing old jazz tunes to her father. Her voice is so beautiful that she finds she may have the chance to change her life forever, but not if her mother has her way. If you enjoy VC Andrews mini-series I recommend you read this. I can't wait to read the next books in the series (the 3rd being Honey). Enjoy!

Sailing, Sailing, on an Iceberg too.......2006-11-22
Wow. This has to be one of the dumbest novels I've ever read. The characters are presented lamely, the story should have been solved days before the Enterprise arrives, and the iceberg....
Throughout most of the story Kirk is a Captain. However, for one chapter he becomes and Admiral. Then he is a Captain again.
Did you know you can use a tent to turn an iceberg into a sailing ship?
The most common reaction to anything by any crew member is to "gasp".
Vulcan's can't go to cold planets or they will die.
Kraken's get goo-goo eyed over communications officers wearing masks.
The story consists of Chekov and Uhura running from bad guys, and Kirk and McCoy trying not to drown.
I cannot even begin to imagine how drunk the authors had to be to envision this as a good story. I also cannot imagine what publisher would have printed this garbage.
Excellent book........2004-05-10
This is an excellent addition to the "Star Trek" series of novels; it has plenty of action, plenty of drama, some interesting looks into the characters of Uhura, McCoy, and Chekov, and a good, not TOO horribly unsubtle ecological message at the end. The plot holds together fairly well, and moves very well.
Not necessarily recomended for non-fans, but definitely worthwhile for any fan of the series.
Pretty good.......2001-07-05
This is one of the good-but-not-too-spectacular novels. It has two major plotlines, one with Uhura and Chekov, the other with Kirk and McCoy. Poor Sulu doesn't even show up, all he has is dialogue (why does he always get the short end of the stick?) And Scotty and Spock are there for about five seconds! I found it really focused on Uhura, Chekov, and McCoy. The better storyline was Uhura's because of the descriptions of the aliens' culture. The story was tied up rather quickly, though, and right at the end I found what seems to be a plot hole concerning the plankton (I don't want to give anything away, you'll just have to read it!) Also - I can never decide in what time this book is set - in the original 5-year mission or somewhere in the movies? The cover and the use of flip-up communicators seem to indicate the first possibility, but uniforms and some ranks make a later setting more likely. Read it and decide for yourself!
Captain! Our suspension of disbelief is overloading!.......2000-06-01
The authors who publish under the pseudonym L.A. Graf have turned out some of the best Original Series professional fiction available. "Ice Trap", unfortunately, is one of their worst collaborations. The characterizations are poor, the setting is highly derivative, and the writing is uneven and choppy.
One of the reasons we read Original Series profic is that we love the characters. What a shame it is, then, that the most important characters in this book are portrayed so badly. I was embarrassed by Uhura's overt sexuality while on duty and annoyed by Chekov's neurotic whining, but Spock: poor Spock comes across as a pathetic bookworm who loves the sound of his own voice and who wouldn't lift a hand to save his own captain.
The poor characterizations make it difficult for the reader to suspend disbelief long enough to enjoy this book. Unfortunately, the setting compounds the difficulty. The writers seem to have written this book as a tribute to Canada; the original characters are mostly Canadian, and the alien world, Nordstral, is astonishingly similar to northern Canada -- or to what a Californian might think Northern Canada was like if they'd never actually been there. It's as if they got everything from an outdated copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica. It's distracting and at times unintentionally hilarious: in one scene, a character swears there are no sailboats in Calgary, which might not have been as funny had I not been on a sailboat in Calgary at the time I read it.
To top it all off, the writing is weak and very uneven. It's as if one writer contributed the A story, the other the B story, and both collaborated on the bridges. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
This is perhaps the weakest of the L.A. Graf collaborations. I don't recommend it.
Exciting ice adventure focusing on Chekov and Uhura.......1999-01-14
I enjoyed Ice Trap, and recommend it for fans of the Original Series. Uhura and Chekov share the main storyline, and their adventure on an ice planet is suspenseful and exciting. There is a weaker subplot involving McCoy and Kirk, but still engaging. Especially worthwhile if you want a change of pace from the novels that always feature Kirk and Spock at the forefront.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Photography, That Glossy Skating Book That's Fun To Browse Through.......2006-06-23
I only have the first edition of Figure Skating Now, so if I mention some skaters that dropped off the scene around 2001, that's my solid explanation why I did. Figure Skating Now is a better buy than Icestars because of it's wonderful photography and solidly edited profile info, and, after I buy a book, my fetish is to see if the pages "smell" good, and if you're on the same page with me and my fetish, then Figure Skating Now is a top-notch book because of it's forever-glossy smell contained in it's pages. Still, you have to remember that Figure Skating Now is not an informational guide to figure skating, like The Official Guide To Figure Skating, it's simply a book with extremely nice photography, glossy pages, and well-edited if not very informative, profiles of the top skaters in the world today. In that aspect, it's simply classified as a just-so-you-know book that fans of skating, particularly female fans, will love to flip through and chant a chorus of "Ooh!s and Aah!s" about over their favorite skaters. In that sense, it is similar to Icestars, only it's edited much better.
It basically gives profiles of all the four aspects of skating (mens, womens, pairs, and ice dancing) and the top skaters in each category (examples include Evgeny Plushenko, Michelle Kwan, Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao, and Barbara Fusar Poli and Maurizio Margaglio). Some other previous skaters whose profiles were featured include Alexei Yagudin, Todd Eldridge, Sarah Hughes, Maria Butyrskaya, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze, Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat and Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kratz-retired skaters featured in the 2001 edition, the majority who competed in the 2002 Olympics before announcing their retirement. My point is that I would get the more updated version of Figure Skating Now (the 2nd edition) just to be more updated in your knowledge of the biggest stars in figure skating. Overall, this book is fine and is worth the money if you want a glossy skating book with nice profiles of your favorite skaters, if you want a book describing the comprehensive history and knowledge of figure skating, this isn't the one to get, but it doesn't claim to be that. In fact, it succeeds extremely well at what it claims to be.
Difficult to know which edition is which.......2004-12-30
The second edition (Sept 2003) does feature Sasha Cohen and is up to date - loads of photos very good info for the new or experienced skating fan.
Good for "New" Skate Fans.......2003-07-06
This is a good introduction to the current stars of figure skating. If you have read books about skating and they have told you about recent stars then this book won't do you a lot of good. It does have a lot of good photography and does include info about some people that you don't normally find in other books. One other thing is, because it reviews figure skaters who did well in the 2001 worlds, it does not include Sasha Cohen considering she was out with an injury that season. It really depends on you if you want to get it or not. If you love reading skating books then this is a great book, but if you'd either only want to read about the champions or read about them once this isn't the book for you.
i thought i would get better.......2002-12-28
I got this book and was excited, but they wrote about such pointless stuff, its good for a quick ref i guess. They also didn't include skaters such as Sasha Cohen (:}) but oh well, don't buy it!
Great Book of knowledge.......2002-03-06
I recommend this book to anyone that wants to know the gossip on how the latest figure skaters got to where they are today. With lots of great pictures of all stars including Michelle Kwan, Sarah Huges, Irina Slutskya, Elvis Stojko, Alexei Yagudin and much much more from all around the world.
Amazon.com
"My mom gave a couple of dollars to a woman who was in desperate need of milk for her family. In return, the woman gave my mom a gunnysack full of things, including a pair of skates. My sister Edna grabbed one and I got the other. We went outside and push-glided around an ice pond. When Edna got cold and took her skate off, I put it on my other foot." So begins the story of one of the greatest--and toughest--men to ever play the game of ice hockey, Gordie Howe. Or try Bobby Hull: "We won the Stanley Cup in 1961 when I was 22 years old... but I never did drink out of the Stanley Cup. As the festivities began, I started drinking beer out of the owner's son Mike Wirtz's dirty old felt hat. I got sick as a dog and had to go to bed instead of celebrating that night."
For the Love of Hockey collects the personal stories of 91 of the game's greatest players, stars such as Rocket Richard, Bobby Orr, Guy Lafleur, Wayne Gretzky, and Mario Lemieux. With big, full-color action shots and the words of the players themselves, this is a heartfelt tribute to the most talented practitioners of a fast and furious sport.

This is a great book for us hockey fans. The stories are short and interesting. Notable players from the history of hockey as well as current players are featured. Let's face it, we want to know everything about our favorite players, some of these stories are surprising.

This book is necessary for all true hockey fans. The book tells the stories of some of the great stars of the game from today and yesterday. The best part of the book is that it is written in their own words.

An Engaging Read!.......2001-07-31
I bought this book on the recommendation of friends and I'm glad I did -- it's a wonderful look inside skating though the words of the skaters and skating community themselves, with very little editorial commentary. The stories are easy to follow and really bring a different perspective into the wins, losses, triumphs and tragedies the skating world has gone through over the past half century. I enjoyed all the stories in the book except for one, where a couple of hockey players discuss power skating. Normally I wouldn't care one way or the other about it except that one of them pretty much trashes the sport of figure skating in a statement he makes, and I question the inclusion of this in a book aimed at figure skaters and fans (who akready have to hear stuff like this enough as it is!) But this is a minor quibble. Skip the hockey player story and you'll be fine. :)
one of the best figure skating books availiable.......1999-05-28
This book is a collection of interviews with some of the world's top skaters. The choice of champions included goes beyong the usual list of world titleholders and Olympic champions to stars true skating fans rarely see and would love to know more about, such as spinning phenom Lucinda Ruh.
Most of the stories are personal, giving more insight into the skaters lives than a collection of competition results and technical explanations would. For anyoe who follows figure skating, this is a must-have book.
The year's best!.......1999-05-02
I have read a lot of figure skating books published this year and last and this unpretentious, soft cover book is the best. It is a series of oral essays by skaters, coaches, commentators and officials. Those interviewed, some famous, some not, talk about everything from skating as Mickey Mouse for Disney, to what it is like to come and train in the US. from Russia, to some of the dramatic, tragic stories of this little world as the death of Sergei Grinkov. Mr. Milton must be a good interviewer because he draws out the skaters and others in the book so that they provide real insight and emotion to the subject. And we see their love for their sport on every page. This book has more content than any of the flashy, coffee table books produced recently. I highly recommend it.
Entertaining Read!.......1999-03-29
While this book is not long on depth, it does give some entertaining insights into the thoughts behind the images. Great for younger readers as well.
Skaters talk from the heart.......1998-07-11
A interesting book that allows the skaters to comment without interruption. The book is a series of comments from almost any skater you have heard of on almost any skating subject you can think of. An interesting and enjoyable read.
